Welcome to The Duality of Man, an original animanga role-play that features numerous supernatural creatures. Unfortunately, these various species have distanced themselves because of the war that occurred thousands of years ago, plaguing some with eyes that only see their dualism. While others meddle themself with their differences, two groups fight, each attempting to eliminate the other in for their definition of worldly peace. These two groups of the Terror Response Syndicate (TRS) and the Assembly of Phantoms (AP). With individuals fighting merely over their differences, it brings uncertainty to the outcome of this war.
We happily accept all role-players as long as they obey the rules and are capable of meeting our word count of 50. This does include those who are unfamiliar with this style of role-playing. The staff of The Duality of Man are willing to happily help those who are new to the role-playing world so they feel comfortable on site. Feel free to message the staff if you need help, they can be found here or in the site Discord and will gladly answer questions alongside calm concerns. If you have any suggestions we would love to hear them; guests may use the support board as a suggestion area as well. Should you decide to join, may I say welcome to the site and we all hope you enjoy your time here.
Yours Truely,
The Staff

Summer 2024
Heat has broken through into a glorious summer. The snow has entirely dried through the spring, leaving to the brilliance of the warmer months. Terror activity has risen as people are brought out of their homes, leaving the TRS in a position of consistent work. Each are attempting to maintain victory in the endless struggle for power.
Since the wonderful members of TDOM enjoy the site enough to play around on it, this thread is to assist with the site's tidying! Functionality is important and we want to make the site functional even if its activity will be minimal at best!
Brendon's feelings of frustration had pooled into his own jealousy and their combined emotions had caused him to act out. Everyone's eyes were on him and he knew that he was disappointing his master. Brendon had worked hard to explain and now he was unraveling it with his temper. And...he couldn't stop...it wasn't the accusations that were driving him mad...it was how she felt like he would hurt Brendon and how she held him in her arms t-trying to separate them.[break][break]
"Stop upsetting him!" Josuah's voice was found, and he hadn't even realized he had transformed into his human self. His heart was pounding erratically, as he squeezed his hands into fists and just felt so angry.[break][break]
"I'm his familiar! I'm his protector!" He continued feeling so pent up, but his voice was not used to such strain and as it came loud and raspy...he suddenly found himself coughing from the exertion. He covered his mouth and tried to say more...but he couldn't and further more he had just...humiliated himself.[break][break]

Josuah's gaze moved between them as they spoke and he was reminded of his first interactions with Brendon's family. He hadn't said a word to them and when they tried to separate them he had put up his shield protectively. It hadn't been until Fergus had come that he finally lowered his protection and brought Brendon in from the cold. He was so light in his arms...so delicate and pure. It had been hard losing that contact and he supposed that was why he didn't wander from him as he slept. Instead he watched over him with his head resting against his chest...keeping that connection.[break][break]
Brendon continued to explain as best as he could, but no matter his explanations...the questions continued. Josuah felt on guard and didn't like leaving everything up to Brendon especially when he became increasingly upset. But his words...his admittance that he...had been given orders to choose a familiar before him...made Josuah feel...jealous again. It was not the time...but the feeling came and he couldn't control it.[break][break]
No one was allowed to bond with his master. Before the mother was able to speak, Josuah's fur bristled out somewhat as he became obviously agitated and a low sound of irritation left him.[break][break]

Josuah could feel the warmth his words brought his master...and he wasn't certain why hearing him turn into a human made him so happy. But it in turn made him feel happy. He was not at all expecting Brendon to suddenly protect him. Within his body he heard the voice of his master...telling him that he was going to try and explain because he knew Josuah was not comfortable as a human.[break][break]
He would have said his name...he would have let him feel his affection and gratitude to his kindness. But instead he was shocked by his charges announcement as he practically shouted their bond for everyone to hear. His heart skipped a beat as his ears rose and eyes widened.[break][break]
His wolf listened to the story of his curse and how his brave savor came to his rescue. His own gaze softened with amusement over the way Brendon explained it all. He was so determined to keep him...and that thought brought on a surge of emotional longing. His master may have been difficult at times...but he was worthy to protect...worthy to be his purpose.[break][break]
Josuah could feel the need to go to him...the yearning to show his affection through nuzzles. But he silenced such thoughts b-before they reached his master and embarrassed them both.[break][break]

Winter || Night || Brendon's Bedroom || OOC: Brendon's post was adorable. I love how he keeps protecting Josuah even though that's Josuah's job. xP
Josuah's movement halted instantly when Brendon's voice bellowed within him. His eyes widened and without hesitation he jerked his gaze to him. It was then that he saw the boy was staring back at him with brief embarrassment over his own actions. Josuah positioned himself at the end of the bed, where he could see Brendon, but still maintain some distance for the mother.[break][break]
He wanted to speak with him in return, but he was hesitant. It always felt...somewhat embarrassing to speak to each other and he didn't want to distract his master. His emerald gaze lifted to them when the boy's mother began trying to unravel the mystery of their contract.[break][break]
He could feel an uneasiness building inside of him as he thought about the whispers that he had heard. It didn't help that Brendon couldn't give them the answers they wanted. He didn't know the boy's family very well, but he knew Fergus was a threat to them both.[break][break]
"...I can turn into a human...and try to explain," Josuah spoke to Brendon carefully and slowly when he saw his eyes had fallen onto him. But his attention soon moved to his mother who was eyeing him with caution.[break][break]
"They don't trust me..." he tried to tell Brendon as he began to move up into a sitting position. His heart was pounding and he didn't want to change, but he would do so to try and alleviate some of their suspicions. [break][break]

Brendon was whining loudly as he tried to reclaim whatever dignity he had left...and his panic and embarrassment was endearing. Seeing him like this held a bit of...revenge and satisfaction for him. But that feeling was short lived when his mother turned to him and...treated him as nothing more than an animal. His ears lifted and he appeared taken aback, but soon he lowered his gaze in silent anger. He felt aggressive in wanting to show her where he stood, but he could not find the strength to argue...to show her he was more than a mere burden.[break][break]
To his immediate defense was his master...and Josuah looked to him with mute gratitude, but he also understood his position. Without a word the large wolf rose and began to move away from them in order to give them the space his mother demanded. She clearly cared about her son and was reacting normally to the events that had taken place.[break][break]
Josuah lowered to the ground and rested his muzzle between his paws with his gaze towards the flickering flame of the fireplace. It was hard not to feel things...but he did his best to keep his mind blank.[break][break]
Still he held envy over the care shared between them... He wanted to feel that kind of care...to be held and cherished. He had never received such warmth growing up. His parents weren't cruel, at least not until the end, but they did not love him. They loved each other and he was merely...an afterthought, their own child...

Their eyes met briefly before the boy's mother looked to her son. It was then that all else was forgotten as she rushed forward and wrapped her arms around him. Josuah sensed no danger from the woman, but he still felt cautious even with her. The young wolf tried to keep his own feelings controlled so that Brendon could concentrate on his mother. But inside his heart...there was bitterness with seeing the relation between mother and son...a real relationship.[break][break]
His emerald gaze lifted to the second female who entered as she bore down at him with attentive eyes. Josuah did not heed her gaze as a threat and merely remained where he was waiting.[break][break]
Brendon's embarrassment was beginning to enter him. It had been small due to his own inner feelings, but now it grew and flourished inside of his chest. He was self conscious with being treated as a child in front of him...and Josuah took comfort in that. The others within the room may have believed him to be a threat and burden, but the naivety of his master was...heartwarming.[break][break]
His ears twitched as he caught sight of the mother actually drawing Brendon into her lap...and a surge of unconscious jealousy filtered into his heart before he could stop himself. Such a feeling was completely irrelevant...he had no such desire to have or be in Brendon's lap![break][break]
With his heart thumping, he lowered his muzzle briefly before frowning and sitting up straight waiting. He didn't want to feel exposed around these strangers especially when they thought very little of him to begin with.[break][break]

Josuah's heart jolted and warmth spread through his body. It should have been something he rejected...something he hated! But what Brendon said to him, it made him feel...well he wasn't entirely sure but, it certainly should have made him angry. His lips parted in retaliation, but his features soon faltered as fear struck his face. Instantly his head jerked backwards and towards the door as the handle turned and a older woman entered.[break][break]
His change was instant before even she could catch a glimpse of him...he had returned to his wolf self and was glancing towards her. He recognized her from the group of people who had come over and knew from her scent that she was Brendon's mother. [break][break]
Being caught in such a state while in his human form had been far too close. He should have been paying more attention. Brendon frazzled him...and left him exposed. He wasn't being a good familiar despite the boy's orders to follow his rules...Josuah knew his purpose was much bigger than merely following his commands![break][break]
He...needed to be on guard and ensure nothing ever happened to his master. The pain of losing your bond...was equivalent to death.[break][break]

"No I'm not," Brendon instantly argued with him and had the audacity to sound cheerful as he said it...like he had won. Josuah made a face as he moved forward, but he didn't look up and instead focused on the ground. Four legs were way more stable than two and so walking was still something he was getting used to. He had been able to carry Brendon all the way here without any problems...so why was he so self conscious now? He knew the answer to his own question.[break][break]
"I'm your master now," He...he told him and hearing the words actually spoken out loud...and in such a cheeky manner caused Josuah to prematurely jerk his head upwards in astonishment. But that only resulted in him losing his position and catching the side of his hip against a chair. His cheeks were burning by this point and he couldn't tell if it was anger or embarrassment or both![break][break]
"You..." he grumbled out and reached to grab the chair to stabilize it. "You shouldn't say it like that..." he scolded him and for a time he procrastinated with his hands gripping the edge of the chair.[break][break]
"It's my job to protect you..." he mumbled out with determination as he squeezed the wood beneath his hand and...wasn't sure why he said that out loud. He supposed he just wanted him to know that...to be aware of the fact that...protecting him came first.[break][break]

"W-Wait," Josuah immediately interjected and lifted his hand to stop him from so carelessly getting out of bed. They both knew that he couldn't walk right now, but he was so stubborn and difficult. To his surprise and that was displayed through his features as he tilted his head slightly and saw that Brendon was in fact waiting.[break][break]
It would have been easier if he was panicked like in the beginning because now it was just...awkward...having to...go to him willingly.[break][break]
"You're so... reckless," Josuah muttered out the only comeback he could think of and he felt like it was more than accurate. Since the moment he had met this boy he had been getting himself into dangerous situations. Traveling alone, approaching a wild wolf...breaking a curse he didn't know anything about...and now healing him when he barely had any energy left to give.[break][break]
With a light frown pressing against his brows Josuah moved forward and towards the bed, but his gaze was on the floor. He was watchful of where he was moving, where he was placing his feet and overall just making sure he didn't unnecessarily bump into anything. But the closer he came...the more he could...sense him.[break][break]
His heart was beating heavier now and he was certain that Brendon could hear it. And he was also exceedingly hot in this room and his clothes were dirty. His frown deepened as he glanced around as though he were looking for something, but clearly had no idea what that something was.[break][break]
"I'm...changing back. You can heal me that way!" he fumbled out and closed his eyes because he was too embarrassed to be standing there in front of him.

Brendon's eagerness...was endearing. He had never mentally felt the sensation of being yearned for. It was overwhelming to have his master's feelings so vividly inside of him...showing him glimpses of such personal things. He...was certain he would never be able to live without it now, because it was addictive to have such access.[break][break]
But the pain his charge soon felt at seeing him was unexpected...and jarring. It caused his own heart to tighten and a sickness to swell within his throat. His eyes lowered to his hands before Brendon even mentioned the scars. As a wolf his fur had covered most of his wounds and they had been forgotten especially without the burden of seeing his reflection.[break][break]
He wanted to hide again, to return to his wolf self...to not be seen in such a state by the one he had bonded with. Even when he could feel his master's care...his concern and pain over his battered body.[break][break]
"I can heal you," he told him with nothing but want and his voice was enough to lift his emerald eyes to his own. He could see how well taken care of he was...his hair and skin...his lips...every detail was perfect. It was...completely contrasting to his own.[break][break]
Slowly his eyes lowered as he hunched his shoulders slightly and became tense. "No..." he told him with his raspy voice and shook his head slowly. "You have...you have to regain your strength..."[break][break]

He liked the sound of his master's voice he admitted silently to himself as he drew up his legs and rested against them. He closed his eyes and focused on the sound...waiting for more.[break][break]
"Although, I really want it...a lot," Brendon admitted and Josuah's heart skipped a beat his eyes opening and his gaze turning towards him.[break][break]
"I can..." he began, but fell quiet as his heart continued to beat heavier as he shifted his position and wondered if he could show him. There were others who had already seen him...but that hadn't been his choice. His emerald gaze narrowed as he felt a flare of irritation inside of him at the thought of Brendon breaking his curse and not being allowed to see him before anyone else. It was childish...but they were his feelings...[break][break]
Josuah carefully began to pick himself up, and standing on his two feet...felt unstable. But he had walked before with someone in his arms and so he knew he was capable of moving.[break][break]
"I can show you..." he whispered quietly as he neared the edge of the divider. But he was nervous and felt...naked almost. 'Just...move,' he coaxed himself mentally as he clenched his teeth together and stepped into view...but his eyes were lowered, unable to face the one he had bonded with.[break][break]

His throat felt dry and his mind blank as he rested there on the floor and stared down at the ragged clothing he wore. He wasn't used to being human...to seeing how much he had grown in just two years. Josuah hadn't even looked at himself in the mirror yet...he didn't know what he looked like. When he had brought the boy inside...he had immediately turned back into his familiar self because that was safe to him.[break][break]
"I'm not," he breathed out, but strained and had to swallow as he reached up and touched his throat to feel the vibration of his voice. "...comfortable as a human..." he tried to explain, but his voice was low and heart beat so strong.[break][break]

Winter || Night || Brendon's Bedroom || OutfitOOC: THANK YOU FOR POSTING.
Beneath the roots of a large barren tree resided a golden wolf, curled in a tight ball, with barely a visible breath leaving him. The tree was slightly bent over and its roots had been exposed creating a shallow cavern for the most basic shelter. The large beast appeared as though he had been sleeping the night away, but in reality, he had only just begun sleeping now. He had been traveling for days and only moved at night where he could leave as little trace as possible. But even as he lay there exhausted and resting...he never truly let himself fall into a deep slumber. It was too dangerous, not only because he was within the wild, but there were other magicals to be weary of. And then there was Erikur, the true threat...the one who still hadn't given up his chase even after two years.[break][break]
Josuah's tired eyes opened slowly as he peered past the roots of the tree he resided under and out into the melting snow. The land was waking and would soon come alive. It was ironic that he was an animal now and yet still he found a way to separate himself from nature. For when the land was quite and unconscious was when he choose to move... His gaze shifted, focusing on the murky color of the roots that came from a tree still clinging to life. Even after being torn from the ground by no doubt a ferocious storm...the tree still clung to its existence. They certainly were one in the same...slowly his eyes closed and for a time he was able to rest. But the sound and scent of an approaching threat caused his eyes to open.[break][break]
A deep growl echoed from beneath the tree, a warning to all that he would not be disturbed. But even that was not always heeded especially when dealing with other animals. Josuah was hardly in the mood for company, but he would have to deal with the situation regardless of his feelings. In the wild there was no room for anything but the task at hand...survival was all that existed in the animal kingdom.[break][break]
A young male wolf had been merely prowling the area, its tail was low and mouth gaped open taking in the scents along the surrounding land. His growl had stopped the creatures approach briefly, but after a moment it began forward again with a caution. Josuah wasted no time rising and actually charging from his den towards the lone wolf, he bore his fangs and full height with no hesitation and sent the creature scampering away. He watched as the male wolf paused glancing back at him for a time before finally taking off.[break][break]
Josuah exhaled mutely, but didn't move from where he stood. Although his familiar was a wolf he held no relation to the actual animal. Wolves were prized within the human world, but Josuah held no care for the creatures. To him they were nothing more than heartless animals who were capable of ripping apart their own brethren just to fill their bellies. But that was no different than bears or any other wild animal he had encountered.[break][break]
His large ears jerked sideways when he caught the sound of snow slipping from one of the branches above him, but he was too slow to move and half of the wet slush caught the side of his face. As one would imagine...Josuah was hardly amused as he shook the snow from his coat and glared up at the source of his attacker. But his annoyance was brief and he would have went back to sleep had a new interruption not surfaced. It wasn't unusual to encounter multiple disturbances and complaining about it would bring him no closer to sleep. So, instead he turned to watch the lone black wolf as the creature pranced around as though he were nothing more than a domestic dog.[break][break]
His emerald gaze narrowed darkly, as he lifted his nose and inhaled carefully. There was the scent of a human surrounding the black wolf and so there was a possibility that it wasn't a wild creature but magical. There were several different species that could masquerade as an animal and that meant he always had to be on edge even in the wild. He wasn't so willing to give up his resting place, and so he waited, sitting perched before his tree as the animal focused in on playing with a puddle. It was far too relaxed to be a wolf...so the likelihood of it being wild was dwindling way.[break][break]
'Perfect...' he thought to himself begrudgingly.[break][break]

Winter || Morning || Forest || OOC: Hopefully my post was okay! Josuah's currently in front of his den sitting down watching Arlo. xD
Josuah's ears were lowered to his head, buried beneath his frazzled fur as he rested on the cool floor and kept his eyes closed. He was trying to block out other sensations in order to calm himself, but despite Brendon's sudden acceptance of their conversation...he still refused to speak outside of him.[break][break]
His wolf form became tense the more Brendon spoke to him...the more he dominated his mind with his words. It was what he had done to him in return unknowingly. To bond with another was meant to be something honorable and meaningfully. But the amount of invasion brought with it was startling. He never would have expected it to be this way to feel this way...and to give such a thing to anyone...so freely.[break][break]
Erikur came to his mind then...the man who had wanted this, his power, his loyalty. He was someone he hated, rejected and the thought of ever giving him any piece of himself made him feel revolted. But Brendon had been different...every part of their first meeting had been different.[break][break]
"I... I saved your life," the boy supplied, and was referring to his curse. A curse he had no idea what it involved...and that ignorance was a great reminder of how unprotected this boy was...this infuriating boy. Josuah opened his eyes and began lifting from the ground, but he didn't face the other male. He listened to his words...always there...filling every one of his senses and making it difficult to concentrate. It would be better for them both if they took things slow less private because they were ultimately strangers.[break][break]
He could help...there was something he could do...and he would have to do it eventually. He could not stay in his wolf form forever and he wouldn't allow himself to live like that...to allow what Erikur did to him to remain a permanent scar. His emerald gaze scanned over the room until he located an area that would provide him the seclusion he needed. His large body moved towards a divider that would keep Brendon's eyes from him as he became human.[break][break]
He sat on the ground and exhaled slowly...feeling self conscious still...and...impatient. He didn't want to dwell on what he was about to do...he just wanted to...change. Slowly, his form began shifting, as his wolf self began fading becoming invisible...and beneath it the body of teenage male...crouched down on the floor...covered in the same clothes Erikur had given him when he was first kidnapped.[break][break]
A real human shudder left him as he opened his eyes and glanced around, but it was hard. He was not ready for any of this...but at least now they could speak...in a more appropriate way.[break][break]
"Let us..." he began, his voice course and much different than when he had spoken to the boy as his familiar. "...talk...this way..." Josuah told him with a deep strain and awkwardness.[break][break]

Josuah could feel no signs of relief from the boy, instead his temper continued to burn like an invisible furnace as he fought to sit up. He had already realized the boy had no intention of going to sleep and would most likely continue to argue with him. Josuah preferred when the male had been sleeping at least he hadn't been so...difficult.[break][break]
Again, with little restraint the boy yelled at him. His voice was strong and blocked out everything else making him close his eyes and lower his muzzle as he tried to embrace the sound. But it was intimate and made him feel restless. He was so desperate to stop the sensations from bombarding him that he jumped down onto the ground and began pacing. However, the distance did not lessen the next barrage of words sent his way.[break][break]
He shook his head adamantly and lowered to the ground, hiding from the other boy and trying to catch his breath. He was not used to talking, to being around others, to being locked inside the cage that was his room...he had barely any time to handle any of this...and it was making him feel helpless.[break][break]
