Welcome to The Duality of Man, an original animanga role-play that features numerous supernatural creatures. Unfortunately, these various species have distanced themselves because of the war that occurred thousands of years ago, plaguing some with eyes that only see their dualism. While others meddle themself with their differences, two groups fight, each attempting to eliminate the other in for their definition of worldly peace. These two groups of the Terror Response Syndicate (TRS) and the Assembly of Phantoms (AP). With individuals fighting merely over their differences, it brings uncertainty to the outcome of this war.
We happily accept all role-players as long as they obey the rules and are capable of meeting our word count of 50. This does include those who are unfamiliar with this style of role-playing. The staff of The Duality of Man are willing to happily help those who are new to the role-playing world so they feel comfortable on site. Feel free to message the staff if you need help, they can be found here or in the site Discord and will gladly answer questions alongside calm concerns. If you have any suggestions we would love to hear them; guests may use the support board as a suggestion area as well. Should you decide to join, may I say welcome to the site and we all hope you enjoy your time here.
Yours Truely,
The Staff

Summer 2024
Heat has broken through into a glorious summer. The snow has entirely dried through the spring, leaving to the brilliance of the warmer months. Terror activity has risen as people are brought out of their homes, leaving the TRS in a position of consistent work. Each are attempting to maintain victory in the endless struggle for power.
Since the wonderful members of TDOM enjoy the site enough to play around on it, this thread is to assist with the site's tidying! Functionality is important and we want to make the site functional even if its activity will be minimal at best!
Josuah's apparent turmoil was stolen from him when the boy did not scream or fight his presence but instead...sneezed. Golden ears perked up and he turned more towards him to see that his large tail had practically buried the young male due to his small stature. His mouth parted carefully drawing in the scent of the stranger and he could taste the lingering flavor of fear, but still he would not run.[break][break]
However, he soon saw and felt the swirling magic of teleportation as the boy attempted to escape, but his resolve was weak and only ended up putting him in more danger as he fell back atop him. A low gruff left him as the male finally physically began scrambling from his body in order to stand to his full height to perhaps run away. But curiosity seemed to take hold of him and it caused Josuah's gaze to darken as the amber eyed child peered down at him with no regard for his own safety.[break][break]
His own heart was pounding from the exertion of everything, but he felt a form of aggravation over the boy's naivety. No matter who or what he was the boy should have been on alert or had someone taking care of him.[break][break]

The boy's body fell from the bench he had situated himself on, and would have simply fallen into the soft bed of snow beneath him. But despite the lack of danger...Josuah's wolf sense became heightened and entangled within his familiar. His reaction was purely instinctual as he jolted down from the wall, and perfectly behind the child as he fell into him. His tail and body both curled protectively around the stranger and the sensation of his weight against him felt jarring.[break][break]
Within his mind he had caught sight of the gold dissipating sparkles, but the memory was fleeting and taken over by the threat his fall. Now, however, there was more...a sensation of connection...of bonding despite no contract being signed. He didn't know how to feel...or have any answers to his questions.[break][break]
Having a master had been a hated subject for him when he had been let down by the value of it all. But when he was young it had been something he had cherished... That feeling struggled with him now as he used his own body to protect someone he didn't know... but who had the familiarity of someone he did...and who he was suppose to guard.[break][break]

Josuah's ears continued to flicker and move, listening both to the boy's movement and the surrounding forest. He was choosing to follow the stranger, but would not be caught off guard. He knew that he was wasting time, that he shouldn't have begun stalking the younger male, but despite his thoughts he continued. He could hear the sound of a stick clashing with multiple surfaces and the soft crunch of each step that dug into the snow as the boy unsuspectingly wandered.[break][break]
If he could follow him so easily than what was preventing others from hunting him? Josuah's mind surged with thoughts, thoughts he felt were forced upon him by his species, but could not stop. His parents words haunted him, their praises towards sensing each other and protecting the one they chose to be their master. Perhaps if they had been honest with him instead of creating fanciful stories he wouldn't have become so hostile with them. But such a thought was pointless because his parents were capable of many more atrocities that he was happily rid of now.[break][break]
The younger male had stopped moving and Josuah did the same, as he peered towards the concrete wall and eyed the distance. He could make the jump onto the ledge, but he would leave himself in the open. But he wanted to see the stranger...to study him until he figured out why the feelings inside of him existed. Why even now he couldn't just turn and leave even though that was the safest route.[break][break]
His emerald gaze narrowed, as his heart tightened and for once his own naive curiosity got the better of him...as he drew back, and ran towards the wall, using his powerful hind legs to scale the wall and land silently atop the ledge.[break][break]

Josuah watched as the boy drew his gaze towards him...and without the coverage of darkness he would have been seen. But the large trees encased him along with fallen trunks and dead bushes. Still, to be gazing into the eyes of someone he felt the need to shield was consuming. He had never felt drawn to someone before, but his parents often spoke of that feeling...of that contentment. But he didn't feel at peace...he felt alert and fearful of the boy's lure. He was being foolish...allowing anything to distract him from the reality...the reality of what a familiar was...nothing more than a servant...a meaningless existence to serve someone else and never live for themselves.[break][break]
The young wolf knew there were familiars who remained without a contract, but they all suffered from a loss of not having a purpose...a master to condemn them. He needed to leave this place...to find the strength to stand and run away like he had been for years.[break][break]
The sound of someone approaching in the distance caused his gaze to finally break from the boy in order to collect their surroundings. But the sharp cry of surprise coming from the young male instantly drew him back. His fur bristled without his order and he felt protective...as though something was going to happen to the boy.[break][break]
Why was this happening to him now? He felt taunted by his inability...by his festering hatred towards his species...and to be so easily pulled into the call. His parents were wrong he did not belong to anyone. He bore his fangs and dug his claws into the open snow as he began to retreat from the ground, but as he did his eyes caught sight of the stranger departing, moving along the large concrete wall that encased his home.[break][break]
With the approaching carriage he had a chance to slip inside...but he wouldn't take that risk... However, he did move towards the opposite side of the wall quietly but he convinced himself that it wasn't unconscious...he was making the choice on his own to investigate more.[break][break]

Soft flakes of snow began to fall and the land around him felt dead compared to the life within the manor. He was not one to envy the warm glow of the interior, of the world he was no longer apart of, but something drew him to this place. It made time feel as though it had, for a moment, become still and left him with loneliness.[break][break]
It was a foolish and pointless feeling...one that meant nothing and would only slow him down. The estate was no different than any other large plot of land he had journeyed past. He could not dwell when he needed to gather a better lay of the surrounding land before the first light.[break][break]
However, as he began to stand Josuah's ears turned to the gruff sound of doors opening and the silhouette that began towards him. His body stiffened and his heart clenched with a foreign feeling that made him bare his fangs in discomfort. It was then that the source of that sweet smell surfaced and centered on the young male speaking with one of the guards. His features darkened with uncertainty as he lowered his gaze to the snow in order to concentrate. But even then the sound of the male's words reached his ears and found a way through him.[break][break]
The sound of approaching footsteps that were far louder than they should have been caused the wolf to jerk his gaze towards the young man as he frowned and pressed his face to the gate innocently unaware of him.[break][break]
Josuah lowered, crouching down and feeling as though the boy could see him despite that being impossible. His breathing was heavy as he lowered his ears and became very still with his belly to the snow. There was a sensation within him one that he began to recognize as he remained where he was...and that was the growing need to...to protect him.[break][break]
'No,' his own voice echoed within his mind as that feeling brought fourth a war he had thought was over...the war of actually contracting himself...to a master.[break][break]

Winter || Night || Outside Matthews Estate OOC: Me too, I'm slow slow slooooow. I loved your post though, Brendon is adorable.
Josuah's muzzle rose as he gently breathed in the cold winter air that stretched for miles. It was biting, but he had grown accustomed to it over the years. Still, there were always some nights worse than others. He exhaled stiffly and pressed onward as he continued to place distance between himself and where had stayed months prior. The land surrounding him now was foreign, and although that was dangerous to his survival he had no choice. Erikur's men would continued to hunt him until they successfully captured him which meant he could never stay in one place for too long. It was an unforgiving life, but it was his...and as long as it remained as such he would continue to fight.[break][break]
He was stubborn, but the years had taken a toll on his mind and resolve. He felt as though wandering was the only existence he held now...to forever travel the land never having a shred of a future. These were the thoughts that came to him while he rested beneath the skies in his makeshift dens. His communication with the outside world had all been lost, however, he had come across a few who could speak with him. But Josuah was very distrusting of strangers and often kept his mind absent of thoughts to avoid them believing he was anything more than a wandering wolf.[break][break]
He wasn't desperate for communication...to speak and have company...he enjoyed his solitude and was thankful for a few things. Such as not having to ever hear or see his parents again. He hated them for their betrayal...for selling him to a man who had continued to relentlessly hunt him. He would kill that man if he ever saw him again, but Erikur remained hidden within the safety of his towering mansion and continued to pay others to find him. When he had the misfortune of being caught up to by his men...there were always different powers present. But that constant threat had aided him in his training.[break][break]
Josuah paused within the white blanket of snow when the sound of life reached him. There within the distance he could see the lights of a large estate filled with celebration. He could smell the deep odor of food, but within it there was something sweet. He closed his eyes and parted his muzzle to inhale more of the taste, but the cold winter air was masking. He scoffed irritably, an animalistic grunt as he began forward once more. But as he moved...the scent kept returning and bothering him. The land was large and guarded making any form of exploration impossible. However, despite that he changed directions to bring himself closer to the area where he immediately saw a concrete wall encasing the huge owned land and a less secure metal gate with two guards standing watch.[break][break]
He kept himself hidden as he perched himself into a sitting position and drew his tail over his large paws as he stared past the guards and to the manor were the mysterious scent was emanating from.[break][break]

Winter || Night || Forest OOC: -edit- Was coding and lost my original comment SORRY AINE.
Hello! Um, not sure what to say about myself! I've been roleplaying for a long time and love my characters dearly. I write wall text PMs, so I guess I'm old school. x//P
FAMILIAR FORM Josuah is larger than a regular wolf, with golden fur, big paws and a muscular build. His eyes are emerald green and currently his body holds a few scars from fights he's found himself in over the years.
HUMAN FORM Golden hair and emerald eyes still remain, he's tall and has a firm build. He isn't overly muscular or lanky, but rather a medium ground of masculine. His facial features give away his young age with being softer but he still can appear unfriendly and hardened. His scars from his familiar form are more visible with some being on his collarbone, lower legs and arms, and on his back shoulder blade.
For clothes Josuah prefers things that provide him with more protection, this means hardened fabric and other similar items. His casual wear is more neutral because he hasn't been given enough time to find his more personal style.
Josuah's circumstances of his life have caused him to develop a unique personality. As a wolf he is much more mature and aggressive because without those traits he would have died long ago. He had to adjusted quickly and was not given the proper time to grow as a human child. This has resulted in his human sixteen year old self acting much more childish than what is expected of someone his age. This can correlate to the trauma of what he had to endure by living in the wild for three years with minimal contact with other people.
As a human he's awkward, childish and pent up with frustration. He likes being a wolf much more because as a wolf he's strong and understands his body. But as a boy...it's as though he was a child and suddenly woke up with a teenage body. He will need time to adjust and become confident with his form. As time goes on he'll grown and more of his dominant traits listed above will come through. But for now he's learning and growing as a character.
For Josuah the wild was very direct in how he should be, if you wanted to survive one needed to care only for themselves, fight, and push forward no matter what. As a human the world is a lot more complex and he hates it.
abilities
Shield Creation -- Mastered Josuah has a natural ability to create near impenetrable shields. This can range from an actual shield to a circle like structure that appears as a dome. It can be a green hue that matches his eyes or an almost clear like crystal look. However, this ability comes with some drawbacks. Such as the size, he can create small and medium shields, but cannot form large shields. Most damage can be contained, but when stronger abilities are used Josuah begins to take physical wounds while maintaining his shield. This can prove deadly if he does not have a healer present.
Wolf -- Advanced As mentioned earlier, Josuah's familiar form is larger than a regular wolf. He has the natural advantages of wolves and still has these abilities even as a human, however their strength is halved.
Counter Spells -- Intermediate He has the ability to counter spells and is rather well at catching spells due to his wolf sense that allows him to see quick movement. Of course, he will always be much better at this ability while in his wolf form since his senses are dulled down as a human.
Healing -- Beginner This is something he's never been very good at and it doesn't help that he lacks interest in it. He has used this ability more when he's been trapped in his familiar form, but only in dire situations and it is never a full perfect heal, he cannot mend his scars.
backstory
Josuah was born from the love of a familiar and her master. The two were inseparable or at least it always seemed that way to Josuah who often felt discarded from their care. They spoke of him finding his match and during his childhood growth he believed and craved the same. But he also felt bitter with his parents inability to see him as what he was...their child. So, instead he filled his time with obsessively preparing for the day he would have his master. He worked on his powers and tried to learn as much as he could to better protect his other half. But he was also very impatient and continuously voiced his desire begin his search. It wasn't until the age of 13 when he finally convinced his parents to bring him to a meeting that helped familiars seek out their bonds, it was here that he learned the truth behind his species. For years he believed his other half would be special...but he learned that what was special was the bond and the bond alone because a contract could be made between anyone...and even broken.
A hatred swelled within his tiny form after that and he refused to ever have a master. This bothered his parents greatly and for once they seemed concerned about his future, but it was a future he no longer wanted. Regardless of his refusal they forced him to attend more sessions. Josuah fought them, but they didn't understand they believed once he found his match that he would settle down and be happy.
One Warlock in particular an older man by the name of Erikur Bryling took an interest in Josuah during one of his searches. He had the ability to see untapped power and could see that although the boy was young he had a great deal to offer him. It was the perfect match or it would have been had he not been completely denied such a privilege. In fact he even tried to discuss a payment for Josuah with his parents, but they politely declined him. Josuah had no idea about the offer and it made his parents weary enough to step away from the business of finding their son a master. They felt that perhaps he was just too young and would grow into it as he aged.
None of this was made aware to Josuah who by now was 14 years old. Ironically enough, he overheard their broken conversation of a man who wanted to buy him as his familiar and the young boy mistakenly believed his parents intended to sell him. It was during this time that he packed his things and ran away desperate to escape such an existence.
Word of his disappearance spread and Erikur knew he has a small opportunity to block others from seeking the boy's location and capture him. He did so and Josuah was captured, from there Erikur gave him the choice to become his familiar, but no matter his bribery the boy was stubborn. He knew he could force the bond, but that was flimsy and without Josuah's acceptance impossible to keep. So, he cursed him instead, revealing that he would remain in his familiar form until he changed his mind.
For three years Josuah has been trapped within his familiar and masked from almost all for what he was. It was a difficult and hard life, but he would not falter. He would not follow the orders of the man who had cursed him and would not let anyone release his curse because wanted to break it himself...to break his chains of being a familiar which was ironically the embodiment of the curse given to him...
