Welcome to The Duality of Man, an original animanga role-play that features numerous supernatural creatures. Unfortunately, these various species have distanced themselves because of the war that occurred thousands of years ago, plaguing some with eyes that only see their dualism. While others meddle themself with their differences, two groups fight, each attempting to eliminate the other in for their definition of worldly peace. These two groups of the Terror Response Syndicate (TRS) and the Assembly of Phantoms (AP). With individuals fighting merely over their differences, it brings uncertainty to the outcome of this war.
We happily accept all role-players as long as they obey the rules and are capable of meeting our word count of 50. This does include those who are unfamiliar with this style of role-playing. The staff of The Duality of Man are willing to happily help those who are new to the role-playing world so they feel comfortable on site. Feel free to message the staff if you need help, they can be found here or in the site Discord and will gladly answer questions alongside calm concerns. Josuah's ear moved back, facing Brendon as he shifted in the bed and soon spoke up about returning the favor. Embarrassment and frustration were all he felt, but despite that he couldn't unravel the emotions...he couldn't connect them to thoughts or wants. They were bonded and still he couldn't fully understand anything. It made him feel angry, but more heavy thoughts soon began to weigh down on him. He wondered briefly what his life would be like now...now that he had a master. He didn't know what the future held for him because he never would have expected such an outcome to befall him.[break][break]
Two years running...and within a moment it was all gone. Josuah's solemn thoughts were interrupted by the sudden loud and almost booming sound of his master's voice. His ears shot straight up and his fur bristled out as the sound of his name echoed deep within his body.[break][break]
With his heart now thundering he lifted and turned his gaze towards Brendon who had clearly done it on purpose. But he had also helped him understand...why he was so frustrated with them speaking in such a way in the first place. It was too personal...too soon for them both to share each other's voices so intimately with one another.[break][break]
"...I," he began with a light breathlessness because of the intensity of what he had experienced. "...I won't do it again..." he promised and soon fell silence once more. It was not the best solution...to no longer have communication with each other. But for Josuah there was hardly any other solution. He would not...become human...not yet...not for anything.[break][break]

Josuah didn't move when the boy yelled at him...and he tried not to feel his emotions, but they came regardless. He was trying to be kind and patient to ease them both into the situation, but Brendon was proving to be quite fussy. His words made him feel self conscious and unfortunately had the opposite effect of what the boy wanted.[break][break]
Instead of giving him what he wanted, Josuah glanced away and moved to lay down on his bed. He did not speak another word after that and would remain silent. Josuah had seen the boy's frown when he questioned their contract together, but he did not feel discouraged by his reaction. He...felt as though he should have been more distraught over it all, but somehow it had settled into him as though their bond had always belonged.[break][break]
Was this the experience for all familiars? Was this why his parents felt that the moment he bonded his mind would change...that he would feel content? Winter || Night || Brendon's Bedroom OOC: Josuah is going to be so awkward with speech. xD
The boy's mother, the guards and another family had discovered them out in the snow. But his wolf self was not compliant to the newcomers as they questioned and attempted to separate them. He hadn't been human in two years...and although for the barest of moments he had spoken...the voice was foreign and uncomfortable to him. He could not answer any of the questions being demanded of him and so he had remained deathly silent.[break][break]
It wasn't until a man by the name of Fergus did Josuah follow some form of orders. The man was the head of the household and very powerful. He explained to the others that they were bonded and that he would cause Brendon no harm. Josuah was then ordered to bring Brendon's unconscious form to his bedroom and let him rest until he awoke. The man's words were ice...void of any care for the boy who was related to him and Josuah knew he was someone he needed to be very careful around.[break][break]
Brendon had been locked within the walls surrounding them for an unknown reason and he needed to ensure he kept him safe. But among those feelings...were everything else that had come with the bond. He had seen memories of the boy's life...personal glimpses that he couldn't make out, but they were still private moments of the boy's life. He didn't feel as though he deserved to see them...not yet...not while they barely knew one another.[break][break]
Throughout the house he could hear whispers...of him and how he had no doubt taken advantage of the boy. They felt that he was a threat to them and that he had ulterior motives...clearly wanting something from their family. But Josuah wanted no such thing...and hadn't done any of this purposefully. It had just...happened...[break][break]
Josuah exhaled softly, as he stared towards the boy who remained motionless beneath him. He was back within his wolf form...because it was more comfortable to him. And currently he was on the bed with his head resting on the boy's chest. He listened to his heart beat and breathing...and tried to focus on his feelings to see if the curse had any unseen consequences. Erikur was a powerful warlock...and for a child to break his curse...it...seemed unlikely it would all be so easy.[break][break]
He felt more guarded than ever before because he had someone other than himself to protect now. He had grown up learning everything there was about being a familiar, but he still felt unprepared...uncertain of how all of this had come to be. Josuah had heard of unique contracts before...ones that didn't require paper, but had a different bonding experience entirely. But the words and information were lost to him now...[break][break]
The sudden cry from his charge caused Josuah to jolt upright and his fur to bristle out completely. His pupils narrowed as his ears lifted and curved downward attentively to the younger boy as he glanced around with glossy eyes. The boy...whose very name now echoed freely within his mind...would be protected by him until his final breath.[break][break]
'Brendon...' He breathed his name unconsciously within his mind as he drew back and peered down at the male who was practically buried underneath him. But a new suffocating feeling surfaced and began to constrict around the boy as his large amber eyes focused on his curse. He could see the chains reflecting within his eyes...and before he could stop him... Brendon was reached out to grasp onto them.[break][break]
"Wait," his voice was foreign to him...it sounded strained and unused because it was human. A voice that parted from his lips with the shattering of his curse. The boy... the child who had done it all became limp...his eyes closing as all of his energy and power was drained from him. A heavy breath left Josuah as he reached for the male and lifted his unconscious form upwards.[break][break]
Pain gripped his heart at the thought of the boy's discomfort...from breaking his curse. He knew as a newly bonded pair...he would have been able to feel such things if they existed. His curse was broken...he was now in his human form, and he was this boy...Brendon's familiar.[break][break]

Josuah's gaze narrowed on the stranger when he pushed his lips forward in thought and set his hands on his hips. He looked mildly frustrated, but that emotion swept from his features as quickly as it came and was replaced with a rather concerning smile. The boy was too transparent, he could see his intent and would even be able to see it if he was a vast distance away.[break][break]
Honestly, how could someone who looked to be at least in his teens be so...incompetent. It was dangerous...and resisting his need to protect him was difficult enough. The last thing he needed was to see just how incapable the male was. It made it worse that the boy was in fact magical, but his powers were not visibly impressive. How could his family leave him so defenseless? The thought made him angry as his brows drew down into a frown as the male concentrated on his little spell.[break][break]
Josuah felt that the young boy was not a threat and that was why he remained unresponsive to most of his antics. He knew he needed to depart and forget about this encounter, but the truth was that he didn't want to leave. There were things about this stranger that he found comforting. He reminded him of a time lost in his own life...[break][break]
His emerald gaze shifted immediately to the male when his magic finally filled the air and left the wolf curious about his spell. With no explanation or permission the stranger launched at him with full intent to touch him. There were a few spells that required contact, blessings..and curses...[break][break]
The large wolf elegantly jumped out of the way and landed softly within the snow a few feet from where the boy had tried to surprise him. He thought that would discourage or in the very least stun the boy. But the stranger didn't even hesitate as he turned his direction and went at him again, his feet marching over the snow as he gained speed to try and catch him.[break][break]
Josuah didn't hesitate to turn, and run towards the wall. He easily scaled it and turned to sit perched at the top staring down at the boy. "I can break it," the boy whispered to him and his tone held a sweetness to it. He was attentive to him and had no hesitation in believing he was merely a humanoid species trapped within his animal form. Although, seeing the curse was impressive and not something he had happened across before...he also knew that this male was not particularly cautious when it came to anything. So, one could assume he was merely...blindly concluding that he was human and not actually seeing the truth.[break][break]
The stranger repeated himself as though he were solidifying exactly what he had meant when he said he could 'break it'. His naivety and innocence were both frustrating and oddly...warming. This was the longest conversation held with him since...Erikur had cursed him, but he wasn't certain if he was ready to reveal that he could understand him.[break][break]
Josuah was surprise when the male actually squatted down to peer sideways and give him a childish smile. His emerald gaze lifted towards him, unable to resist the temptation to see his growing excitement. The boy told him that he was a novice and then proceeded to brag about how easy the curse would be to diminish.[break][break]
It should have been irritating or heartwarming. But Josuah found it all instead...confusing. He had lost a great deal of his humanity...and the world of people felt so far. There were no conversation within the forest, or emotions outside of raw survival...it was an empty land with nothing but beautiful landscapes. The world of humanoid species was one with a plethora of possibilities. And it was overwhelming to him.[break][break]
Josuah's gaze remained on the male's cheeky smile, but he didn't give him any form of conformation. He...did enjoy being spoken to...even though that was a pointless feeling. He finally broke his gaze away and began pacing around him, circling and taking in his petite growing form before finally sitting in front of him...and shaking his head slowly. Inside his heart was beating heavily because...he was revealing to the male that he could understand him. It was dangerous to become close to anyone...because he had been betrayed before, but he couldn't bring himself to just leave...so instead he stayed...contemplating what it was he wanted.[break][break]

The male before him was young, but not completely a child. From afar, the way he held himself and spoke with the guard earlier...Josuah would have expected him up close to be far younger than he was. His features were very gentle, his skin pampered and the grip of his hands were soft. He was very well dressed and swarmed with the scent of others from the celebration occurring within his manor.[break][break]
There was purity with the way his large eyes stared down at him with intense interest. But his actions were still dangerous and had he been any other creature the boy could have found himself...killed. The thought of harm coming to the one he felt the need to protect...was alarming. He hadn't experienced the sensation of guardianship that his parents spoke fondly of. But he felt it with this stranger...and that somehow they were connected.[break][break]
That kept him grounded where he was...even though this boy was a threat to him...a threat to the freedom he had endlessly wandered to keep. Josuah remained very still as he silently tried to assess the boy's true form. What species was he? Could he sense what he was? The large wolf felt as though he could...sense the male's feelings, more than just fear...which was something he could sense as a wolf. Fear could mingle with the emotion of uncertainty, someone who was nervous, and he could sense danger to a degree...if a person's intents were bad. But it didn't work with all creatures and he shouldn't have been able to sense a delicate piece of curiosity...and then concern.[break][break]
His features shifted somewhat when the boy blurted out that he was cursed and appeared completely taken aback. And ultimately, it wasn't the acknowledgement of his curse that startled him, but rather the fact that a child had so easily seen it. Erikur's curse had been particularly cruel with ensuring not many could see him for what he truly was. The reminder of that man and his own inability to break his curse filled him with a silent bitterness as he drew his gaze down in thought.[break][break]
