Welcome to The Duality of Man, an original animanga role-play that features numerous supernatural creatures. Unfortunately, these various species have distanced themselves because of the war that occurred thousands of years ago, plaguing some with eyes that only see their dualism. While others meddle themself with their differences, two groups fight, each attempting to eliminate the other in for their definition of worldly peace. These two groups of the Terror Response Syndicate (TRS) and the Assembly of Phantoms (AP). With individuals fighting merely over their differences, it brings uncertainty to the outcome of this war.
We happily accept all role-players as long as they obey the rules and are capable of meeting our word count of 50. This does include those who are unfamiliar with this style of role-playing. The staff of The Duality of Man are willing to happily help those who are new to the role-playing world so they feel comfortable on site. Feel free to message the staff if you need help, they can be found here or in the site Discord and will gladly answer questions alongside calm concerns. If you have any suggestions we would love to hear them; guests may use the support board as a suggestion area as well. Should you decide to join, may I say welcome to the site and we all hope you enjoy your time here.

rendon had fallen into an impossibly deep unconscious. Breaking the seal of the curse that had been placed on the wolf had taken every last ounce of his strength. It had flowed so willingly from his body, exiting him in a huge rush, that had brought immediate unconsciousness. And now he slept, weak and weary, impervious to the sounds and happenings around him. Locked within the realm of dreams.
But, even then, he held so little strength, that he barely dreamed at all. Most of it remained in darkness, black and empty, but not cold or scary. Instead, it was warm, and blanketed, and comforted him. And as the time continued to slip passed him, well into the hours of the night, finally dreams began to take shape and form within his conscious. First lazy dreams, devoid of much thought, dim and hazy. He laid on a couch, resting, and recognized the faded details of the room around him; a common room of the estate, a room he often frequented.
As more of his energy returned, the dream become more vivid, a blanket of white stretching beyond the large glass windows and doors that overlooked the gardens. A fire crackled in the fireplace, heating him and the room, as the snow fell just outside of the doors. And then, within the white, he could see him… the golden wolf, silently traveling through, the white snow dusting his coat. His eyes were a piercing emerald as they lifted to look at him, and stare directly into his soul.
As if drawn by some sort of magnetism, the room twisted and morphed, the double doors opening and the wind blowing the storm in, the floor shrinking underneath his feet, as the world closed in around him. Until he could see his own reflection within the wolf’s eyes, and he transformed before him, picking himself up to his full human height —
“Ah!” Brendon awoke with a start, tears clinging to his eyes, and his heart pounding within his chest. His whole body had jerked out of the dream, his eyes wide and unblinking for a moment, before he finally began to look around, clearly somewhat panicked.
The boy's mother, the guards and another family had discovered them out in the snow. But his wolf self was not compliant to the newcomers as they questioned and attempted to separate them. He hadn't been human in two years...and although for the barest of moments he had spoken...the voice was foreign and uncomfortable to him. He could not answer any of the questions being demanded of him and so he had remained deathly silent.[break][break]
It wasn't until a man by the name of Fergus did Josuah follow some form of orders. The man was the head of the household and very powerful. He explained to the others that they were bonded and that he would cause Brendon no harm. Josuah was then ordered to bring Brendon's unconscious form to his bedroom and let him rest until he awoke. The man's words were ice...void of any care for the boy who was related to him and Josuah knew he was someone he needed to be very careful around.[break][break]
Brendon had been locked within the walls surrounding them for an unknown reason and he needed to ensure he kept him safe. But among those feelings...were everything else that had come with the bond. He had seen memories of the boy's life...personal glimpses that he couldn't make out, but they were still private moments of the boy's life. He didn't feel as though he deserved to see them...not yet...not while they barely knew one another.[break][break]
Throughout the house he could hear whispers...of him and how he had no doubt taken advantage of the boy. They felt that he was a threat to them and that he had ulterior motives...clearly wanting something from their family. But Josuah wanted no such thing...and hadn't done any of this purposefully. It had just...happened...[break][break]
Josuah exhaled softly, as he stared towards the boy who remained motionless beneath him. He was back within his wolf form...because it was more comfortable to him. And currently he was on the bed with his head resting on the boy's chest. He listened to his heart beat and breathing...and tried to focus on his feelings to see if the curse had any unseen consequences. Erikur was a powerful warlock...and for a child to break his curse...it...seemed unlikely it would all be so easy.[break][break]
He felt more guarded than ever before because he had someone other than himself to protect now. He had grown up learning everything there was about being a familiar, but he still felt unprepared...uncertain of how all of this had come to be. Josuah had heard of unique contracts before...ones that didn't require paper, but had a different bonding experience entirely. But the words and information were lost to him now...[break][break]
The sudden cry from his charge caused Josuah to jolt upright and his fur to bristle out completely. His pupils narrowed as his ears lifted and curved downward attentively to the younger boy as he glanced around with glossy eyes. It would be appropriate to comfort him... but such things were foreign to him and instead he moved back to give the male some room to collect himself.[break][break]

s the large and golden wolf drew back from his body, the movement within his peripheral vision caused Brendon to immediately draw his attention away from his room and to the creature. He felt a sharp sting flare within his already pounding heart, and he had to take a moment to calm himself down, one of his hand raising to press flat against his chest.
Even though he was awake, he was incredibly exhausted. The strain on his heart physically ached, and his arm felt as though it had weights strapped to it. The room spun with a dizziness he hadn’t known had been present until now, and it took a handful of seconds for his vision to come together and focus on the large beast at his bedside.
He was within his room…
The fireplace was crackling, and left him warm, with the added coverage of his blankets laying over him within the bed. How… had they…? He couldn’t remember, at least not right away, because he was just simply too exhausted. It hurt his brain when he tried to think. And he… felt so weak.
“Wh…,” He tried, but his voice was hoarse and dry. “What happened?”
It was incredibly personal...to feel pieces of his emotions when he concentrated. The more powerful ones came unconsciously, but subtle changes he had to be paying attention in order to catch. The connection of feelings went both ways he had learned as a child...and that meant the boy could also understand his inner emotions too. He had gone from being completely alone...to now having someone constantly with him. And that was...terrifying for him.[break][break]
But he had been given hours to dwell on his own feelings and did not want to tarnish the boy's mind with his own insecurities. Josuah had no idea what to expect when he told him...when he revealed what had happened between them.
His expression strained when he felt the surge of pain course through the boy's petite body as he was still wracked with the burden of removing such a powerful curse. How had he been able to do such a thing? Josuah did not feel he could have possibly been a novice, but he was still so young.[break][break]
"Wh...What happened?" Brendon's voice broke through his thoughts as he strained to speak and stared up at him with exhausted eyes. Josuah thought privately, his gaze lowering and wondering where he should begin.[break][break]
"...I've..." he began, but thinking with his mind was much different than communicating with his master...as only a familiar could. "...I've become your...familiar..." He revealed carefully as he lifted his emerald gaze to his.[break][break]

“
...I’ve…,” The wolf’s voice entered Brendon’s mind, filling him with warmth but also causing a shiver to rush all along his body, creating goosebumps. His heart strained under the exertion of already being so tired, and he found himself subtly trembling from within the bed. “...I’ve become your… familiar…”
Even more surprising than the fact that he could suddenly hear the wolf speaking to him, was what he revealed in his words. Brendon’s brows instantly knit together in confusion, but he felt as though he could feel it… deep inside of him. There was a warmth and an attachment, as though the two had somehow bonded to become… one.
The thought embarrassed him, bringing heat to his face and reddening his cheeks.
“B-But, I didn’t…,” He stumbled in a flustered state, making a small face as he continued to stare up at the beast. “...There was no… contract,” He pouted in conclusion. He knew about familiars, and the contract that was required to bond. He also knew to create a contract, the familiar and their master had to join their souls together. He had been adamantly against ever doing such a thing, so much so that he had even gotten into trouble with his great great grandfather for it.
It was difficult...to have separation...to find the control to not so easily read into his feelings. He was not used to it and the sensation was very foreign to him. He wanted to provide the boy with respect...especially since he felt responsible for their unseen bond. His tail shifted along the bed as he adjusted his paws in front of him and remained perched where he was. The boy's bed was large but even so...his size made them both seem small in comparison.[break][break]
Josuah could feel the boy's embarrassment...is confusion and...warmth, but he could also sense his exhaustion and having all of those sensations visible to him was overwhelming. He was completely unprepared to have a master...[break][break]
"There are other ways...to create contracts, but I am..." he paused and his gaze narrowed as he looked away trying to find the word. "...unaware of what they are."[break][break]
The wolf remained silent after that...because talking was difficult. He was still not comfortable with the changes in his voice. He knew he had grown and a great many things had changed, but they had not been apart of his life naturally and so for him it was as though he had awoken from a dream...where his body and voice was no longer familiar to him.[break][break]

“
There are other ways… to create contracts, but I am… unaware of what they are.” The wolf’s voice continued to reach him, and dominate his mind, filling it, and taking over it. It felt somewhat overwhelming, but at the same time… he had never heard a voice that had sounded so… perfect. Again, he found himself blushing, and this time a strange sensation flowed through his body, starting from his feet, and swiftly traveling upward, leaving those goosebumps within its wake.
“W-Well…!” He blurted out, because of his embarrassment, wanting to say something in retaliation. “I don’t know!” Was his lame retribution that he exclaimed, only to then press his lips firmly together and silently stew, glowering up toward the ceiling with his cheeks puffed out.
Josuah had seen the boy's frown when he questioned their contract together, but he did not feel discouraged by his reaction. It was natural to be alarmed, upset or even angry to suddenly be the master of a familiar. He...felt as though he should have been more distraught over it all, but somehow it had settled into him as though their bond had always belonged.[break][break]
Was this the experience for all familiars? Was this why his parents felt that the moment he bonded his mind would change...that he would feel content? And how much freedom did his master have over himself? Would their connection impact him and make him want the bond as well? Or did he have the choice to feel his own emotions freely?[break][break]
That thought made him angry...bitter...but not in the way he had expected. He felt irritated at the possibility of the boy...Brendon... feeling any different than him. His mind centered on the echoing of his name within his own private thoughts...and he felt strange knowing his name without being told. He did not know his last name...only his first name stood out to him strongly and filled his soul when their bond was complete.[break][break]
It was a handsome name...a befitting name. He thought, and it was at that very moment the boy piked up and told him that he didn't know any information either. His handsome name shattered...into that of...an innocent fiery boy who looked older than he acted...but also held a sweetness to his reactions.[break][break]
"...It would be best if you rest," Josuah began to tell him because he didn't want overwhelm him while he was so weak. "...You are..still weak from breaking my curse."[break][break]

f the two of them were bonded, then that meant that the golden wolf was a familiar. The information dawned on him belatedly, despite the obvious. How had this… happened? Brendon wasn’t certain how he felt about it — he was just too tired to be able to really think all that coherently. And then, the familiar, was also taking everything in with such calm, even after he had gotten moody, even as he glowered up at the ceiling even right this minute, the wolf remained patient and calm whenever he spoke.
“...It would be best if you rest. ...You are… still weak from breaking my curse.” His voice filled his head again, and it was always such an alarming sensation. It felt private and intimate — and weird!
“Wh—Why are you talking in my head!” He demanded through a huff, finally drawing his gaze away from the ceiling to look back toward the golden wolf. “Y-You…! You should speak out loud like me!”
Josuah didn't move when the boy yelled at him...and he tried not to feel his emotions, but they came regardless. He was trying to be kind and patient to ease them both into the situation, but Brendon was proving to be quite fussy. His words made him feel self conscious and unfortunately had the opposite effect of what the boy wanted.[break][break]
Instead of giving him what he wanted, Josuah glanced away and moved to lay down on his bed. He did not speak another word after that and would remain silent. His heart hurt...because he felt crippled with the years he had spend within the wild. The home that he had longed for before...did not fill him with comfort now. It felt unreasonably hot inside...and the walls did not make him feel safe, but rather trapped.[break][break]
The room was filled with a high concentration of scents from workers moving in and out cleaning...and the guests they had for their large celebration. He had been trapped inside here waiting...and now the only person he had spoke to in hundreds of days...was telling him to stop talking...to talk as he wanted.[break][break]
Josuah closed his eyes and stubbornly remained silent...his chest still tight from his unpleasant feelings and his mind whirling with the events of tonight.[break][break]

trange feelings began to seep into him, spreading across his body, until they traveled to his heart, wrapping around it and encasing it. A feeling of embarrassment, but one different from his own, one born of hesitation and exposure, of self-consciousness, and a deep discomfort of not belonging. It flooded him, spreading throughout his entire small being, and even though it was confusing, as the wolf turned his gaze away from him, closed his eyes, and went eerily silent, Brendon felt that he knew that the feelings belonged to him.
It also filled him with a strange want, envisioning himself within the snow, with the wolf laying on top of him. It shifted into a thought of it now, from within the bed, but as quickly as he realized what it was he was thinking, what he was seeing, he instantly banished it, his heart jumping in alarm as he physically moved one of his hands up through the air as though to disperse the thought entirely. His arms were still heavy and weighed down, making his movement weak and slow, but he had felt compelled to do it nonetheless.
“F-Fine, I’ll… I’ll just do it to you,” He grumpily decided, too shaken by all the different and bombarding sensations to really pull free from his rowdy and stubborn mood. Instead, he focused as intensely as he could and tried to boom his voice within his wolf, and be all intimate and personal, j-just like him! He’d do it too!
Josuah's ear moved back, facing Brendon as he shifted in the bed and soon spoke up about returning the favor. Embarrassment and frustration were all he felt, but despite that he couldn't unravel the emotions...he couldn't connect them to thoughts or wants. They were bonded and still he couldn't fully understand anything. It made him feel angry, but more heavy thoughts soon began to weigh down on him. He wondered briefly what his life would be like now...now that he had a master. He didn't know what the future held for him because he never would have expected such an outcome to befall him.[break][break]
Two years running...and within a moment it was all gone. Josuah's solemn thoughts were interrupted by the sudden loud and almost booming sound of his master's voice. His ears shot straight up and his fur bristled out as the sound of his name echoed deep within his body.[break][break]
With his heart now thundering he lifted and turned his gaze towards Brendon who had clearly done it on purpose. But he had also helped him understand...why he was so frustrated with them speaking in such a way in the first place. It was too personal...too soon for them both to share each other's voices so intimately with one another.[break][break]
"...I," he began with a light breathlessness because of the intensity of what he had experienced. "...I won't do it again..." he promised and soon fell silence once more. It was not the best solution...to no longer have communication with each other. But for Josuah there was hardly any other solution. He would not...become human...not yet...not for anything.[break][break]

rendon could see that he had effectively startled the wolf. He could feel the subtle emotions filtering into him as well, of his reaction. But, what Brendon focused on more was how his name had sounded. It had come to him, as some sort of unconscious knowledge, but hearing it so powerfully and boldly spoken was a bit… embarrassing. It—It was annoying that he knew his name in the first place! It was annoying that Josuah probably knew his name, too! H-He hadn’t given it! So, obviously, it was apart of this whole “familiar” thing, which was also annoying too. Everything was annoying!
“...I… I won’t do it again…,” The wolf returned, but the fact that he was still speaking within his mind, and filling his head with his voice, completely contradicted his statement.
Brendon’s gaze narrowed further, and he stubbornly began to try and sit up within the bed. He felt moody, and grumpy, and a need to sit up and glare at the familiar. But, getting up was a lot harder than he would have liked. As he turned and pressed his hands against the mattress of the bed, using the strength of his arms to push himself up, he could feel the strain directly linking to his heart. H-He was so… worn out...! Still, he managed to get up, and turn his sour, but tired, gaze onto the wolf who had also taken up space on his bed.
‘I know you’re a familiar!’ He told him, in his mind, loud and clear, making sure to resonate within him… j-just for good measure! ‘So that means you can turn into a person and talk to me!’
Josuah could feel no signs of relief from the boy, instead his temper continued to burn like an invisible furnace as he fought to sit up. He had already realized the boy had no intention of going to sleep and would most likely continue to argue with him. Josuah preferred when the male had been sleeping at least he hadn't been so...difficult.[break][break]
Again, with little restraint the boy yelled at him. His voice was strong and blocked out everything else making him close his eyes and lower his muzzle as he tried to embrace the sound. But it was intimate and made him feel restless. He was so desperate to stop the sensations from bombarding him that he jumped down onto the ground and began pacing. However, the distance did not lessen the next barrage of words sent his way.[break][break]
He shook his head adamantly and lowered to the ground, hiding from the other boy and trying to catch his breath. He was not used to talking, to being around others, to being locked inside the cage that was his room...he had barely any time to handle any of this...and it was making him feel helpless.[break][break]

osuah refused, very adamantly so. Brendon could feel his refusal through his emotions, even before the large wolf rose from the bed and jumped down to begin pacing the length of his bedroom. But, Brendon could also feel that not only was he adamantly refusing him, but he was also overwhelmed by his booming, mad, voice within his head. The wolf felt extremely restless and trapped, and for whatever reason was absolutely refusing to become his human form…!
‘Fine…,’ Brendon sulked, his face clearly portraying his grumpiness as he continued to glower down at the beast who had taken up his position on the floor, facing away from him. ‘If you’re not going to switch to your human form, then there’s no point in going all silent on me.’
Brendon folded his arms across his chest, still feeling frustrated and annoyed, but his tiredness was getting the better of him. He was clearly hunching forward from the exhaustion he felt, from simply sitting up within the bed. There was also a dizziness that had consumed him, making him feel a bit light-headed.
‘I… I saved your life,’ He exaggerated, a little pink in the face. ‘And then I don’t know what happened. You, You bonded with me, o-or something! So, the very least you can do is talk to me,’ He told him but then added; ‘Even if it is annoying.’
