Welcome to The Duality of Man, an original animanga role-play that features numerous supernatural creatures. Unfortunately, these various species have distanced themselves because of the war that occurred thousands of years ago, plaguing some with eyes that only see their dualism. While others meddle themself with their differences, two groups fight, each attempting to eliminate the other in for their definition of worldly peace. These two groups of the Terror Response Syndicate (TRS) and the Assembly of Phantoms (AP). With individuals fighting merely over their differences, it brings uncertainty to the outcome of this war.
We happily accept all role-players as long as they obey the rules and are capable of meeting our word count of 50. This does include those who are unfamiliar with this style of role-playing. The staff of The Duality of Man are willing to happily help those who are new to the role-playing world so they feel comfortable on site. Feel free to message the staff if you need help, they can be found here or in the site Discord and will gladly answer questions alongside calm concerns. If you have any suggestions we would love to hear them; guests may use the support board as a suggestion area as well. Should you decide to join, may I say welcome to the site and we all hope you enjoy your time here.
Yours Truely,
The Staff

Summer 2024
Heat has broken through into a glorious summer. The snow has entirely dried through the spring, leaving to the brilliance of the warmer months. Terror activity has risen as people are brought out of their homes, leaving the TRS in a position of consistent work. Each are attempting to maintain victory in the endless struggle for power.

Josuah naturally paused when Brendon suddenly argued with him, but he had expected it. His expression became a frown as he finished putting on the clothes given to him and then glanced within the mirror. He didn't like the outfit given to him...the colors and material felt unfitting to what he liked. But what did he like?
His emerald gaze lifted to his hair as he reached up and drew a strand down that just raised once more. It was then that Brendon's voice boomed within his mind...giving him a taste of what he was saying out loud. His whole body grew tense from the shock of his outburst, but he settled himself down and felt irritated.
Brendon kept taking what he wanted from him while continuing to deny him things he wanted in return. It was then that his eyes traveled down to a comb that was placed on the counter and a rebellious act soon followed.
'If you won't give me what I want...then I won't comply either,' he told Brendon firmly as he grabbed the comb and began brushing his hair down. 'I'll do my own hair.'
Josuah tensed when Brendon suddenly spoke up...wondering why he had fallen silent. He had been distracted and immediately turned around to press a hand to his face in embarrassment.
'I'm still here,' he returned with a bit of urgency within his voice. He had his back towards the mirror now and was leaning a bit against the counter as he lowered his hand.
'...I want to be the one to brush your hair,' he spoke up, but his tone was no longer cautious. There was a bit of forcefulness within his response and he realized that he was demanding rather than asking.
He made a gruff sound of irritation with himself and turned to being hastily jerking on his new clothes. He didn't know how to ask these things. Only that he wanted them because taking care of his master was his job.
...It wasn't though. His job was to...merely protect him. His expression hardened into a deep frown as he stared down at the ground and felt...as though his worth was...meaningless.
Josuah paused from patting his hair in the mirror when Brendon answered him and he found himself...comforted. Speaking privately like this and even while they weren't within the same room was growing on him. It felt special...something he could have all to himself. Being bonded to someone...still felt far too impersonal with being able to do it with anyone...but he was being drawn into the connection.
'In the future...I would like permission to,' Josuah began speaking in return, his voice slowing down as he stared at himself in the mirror. His image still felt foreign, but seeing himself helped him understand how he appeared to others. He wanted to stand straight and appear strong...not as a fool. He wanted to make his master proud and feel worthy to have him as his.
'...brush your hair.' He finished a moment later feeling embarrassed by his want. But also wanting to have the ability to take care of his charge. Josuah tried not to linger while Brendon responded, but his heart was beating a little faster...as he worried about being told no. He turned his attention to dressing once more. But found himself frowning at the way the pants looked on him...he didn't like them.
Josuah drew his attention upwards the moment his name was mentioned, but disappointment filled him when Brendon's mother told him to get changed. His gaze befell Brendon who was hidden behind the divider, but he knew his exact position. The boy's muted uncertainty began to fill him and then a longing for his nearness. The sensation was comforting, but it made him feel restless too as he stood up from the bed and ventured closer.
He came into view of the mirror and the two boys set eyes on each other as he hesitated and squeezed the clothes given to him closer. 'I won't be long,' he promised Brendon privately before glancing towards the mother to give her a light nod as he departed.
As he entered the bathroom down the hallway, he quickly began changing his clothes. 'Can...you still here me?' He asked curiously and found himself peering at his reflection unconsciously.
Josuah's emerald gaze narrowed as he parted his lips and drew in the scent of the creatures before him. All of them were younger males and very well able-bodied, but there was one in particular that stood out. A gray wolf among them that reeked of blood, the smell was so deep that it had become one with his fur. No amount of water or snow could rid the creature of such a toxic taste.[break][break]
The large golden wolf backed away to allow the hollow of the tree behind him to provide him with more protection. He could bring out his shield easily but he was always hesitant to do so...because it was extremely powerful...and one of the quickest ways for Erikur's men to track him.[break][break]
Fortunately, the one who was so eager to play with him turned to the oncoming wolves and revealed his power without hesitation. Fire surged around him, weaving perfectly in and out of his fur without damaging him and Josuah found himself taking in the flames. The color of fire was always reminiscence of autumn to him, a season he held a fondness for and it wasn't often he could see the beautiful colors.[break][break]
An unpleasant feeling entered his heart and caused him to draw his attention back towards the wolves. He didn't like to feel attached to things because they left room for longing...and he had enough of that hiding inside of his soul.[break][break]
The stranger was careful with his flames despite the wet puddles and snow surrounding them. The black wolf was not quick to set fire to the waking forest and neither did he set flames to pack descending upon them. But there was no need to because the fire was making the wolves hesitate and soon they began to skid to a halt. Josuah used this opportunity to charge at one of the stray wolves that awkwardly kept coming despite the danger.[break][break]
He snarled viciously and lowered down to snap at the legs of the wolf. But he didn't bite them and his size and force was enough to make the creature run off. Everything seemed to be working in their favor, but the gray wolf from before kept coming even as his comrades fled. Josuah readied himself to do the same as he had just done, but before he could the gray wolf started to slow and actually changed into a human.[break][break]
"Friends," he called out and looked a bit scraggly as he raised his hands and approached them a bit more before stopping. "I didn't think I'd find any other species out here," he told him with a slight wisp to his speech.[break][break]

Josuah expected his charge to frown or even to complain, but instead he just looked up at him with a very bold grin as though he knew something he didn't. At first his familiar tried to remain stern with his statement, but the longer Brendon just grinned at him the more frustrated he began to feel. But his attention was drawn to the door when Brendon's mother reentered.
He had been distracted again and should have heard her long before she opened the door. But he didn't have time to dwell on that thought because he was immediately noticing the way Brendon's mother was looking at him. She had a soft knowing gaze...that seemed grateful to him and he wasn't certain why.
The attention of an adult...a mother...made him feel a bit awkward as she came over and gave him his clothes. He thanked her with a mumble but kept his eyes lowered as he grabbed the clothes and stared down at them. They were comfortable underneath his hands, but he wasn't very fond of the colors.
Josuah stiffened and glanced towards Brendon when his mother suddenly grasped onto him in order to usher him over to a vanity set to fix his hair. He caught sight of Brendon looking back at him in dismay and maybe he could have felt sympathetic if he hadn't insulted him shortly after.
His mouth parted as thought to defend himself and had he any fur on his body he was certain it would have bristled up. But before he could place a word in...Brendon's mother was actually stating that he would be next.
"My hair is fine," he tried to argue, but felt awkward with all of these changes. He had cleaned his hair last night...why did he need more to be done? It was hard going from solemnly bathing within the wild to...suddenly needing multiple things done in one day.
Josuah's gaze returned to Brendon when he ventured out from the protection of the divider and began boasting about how he had in fact saved his life. Perhaps it hadn't been wise to feed into his comment. But he did feel like Brendon had saved him...and was still saving him now.
He felt a bit overwhelmed by the constant need to change ones clothes. He wasn't certain if he would get used to changing and seeing so many different outfits. The one Brendon wore now was a mixture of yellow, light gray and blue. He wondered a little grumpily if his mother had any hand in choosing his clothes. He didn't understand why he was so limited as a familiar.
"...I don't want to be pampered," he returned with a frown etched in his features. "I'm not a child..." he added more boldly and straightened somewhat as he glanced down towards his master.
"I'm the one who is suppose to take care of you. I don't want it any other way." Josuah revealed with a bothered finality. He wondered how many times he would have to explain this to his master.
Josuah's heart beat heavier when his master's face appeared from behind the wall partition and he could see that his cheeks were red from his frustrations. He was a stubborn boy...a child...
You look like a man.
The words spoken to him this morning echoed within his mind and made him feel...misplaced. He was becoming more bold with speaking out, but there was still a separation between his human body and familiar form.
His emerald gaze had lowered towards the sheets as he thought about how he had asked Brendon before if he thought he was strange. His master had told him no, but they barely knew each other. He wondered if he would end up disappointing his charge with who he was the longer they were together.
"You did save my life," Josuah mumbled out...as he glanced away and stared at one of the decorative walls.
Josuah's posture stiffened when he saw his master's immediate displeasure and soon he was clarifying exactly what had happened last night. He didn't know why Brendon felt the need to argue with practically everything he stated...especially when his statement was entirely the truth.
"You fainted," Josuah told him stubbornly and with a frown as he stared directly toward the divider. "...because you were reckless."
It was pointless to argue now with everything going on, but he didn't like that Brendon was deliberately trying to get out of something he had done. Sleeping and fainting were not the same...and had he been more careful then he wouldn't have had to faint at all!
He was beginning to wonder if jealousy was another trait of his contract. He kept trying to diminish his feelings, but simple things were riling him up. Like how Brendon's mother touched his master with no hesitation...with no limitations. She fretted over him and combed her fingers through his hair...and she was allowed all of that. Whereas he had to explain himself when he was caught hugging his master.
If he had lived with his parents and adopted Brendon as his...then things would have been very different. They would finally have a reason to support him...because they understood how important the bond was between a familiar and master. It made him stupidly for a moment wish that Erikur had never come into his life and instead he had found Brendon. It would have changed everything.
But as quickly as the want came he banished it because he would not forgive his parents for what they had done. Why was he indulging on such childish fantasies? He knew what his life was and what it wasn't...and he needed to remember that even as a human.
Josuah's gaze lifted to Brendon's mother when she told him that she would get him more clothes and then faltered with his name. But Brendon was quick to chastise her and his outburst brought a smile to her face.
She loved him...she loved her son dearly...and that for some reason made him feel...lonely. The door clicked behind her and Josuah remained silent as he sat there...lost to his thoughts and feelings.
"My grandfather is the head of the entire Matthews household," Brendon's voice drew his gaze towards him and he immediately realized he was...behind the divider changing like he had done last night after his bath. The thought made him feel somewhat shy, but it wasn't enough to quell the seriousness of their situation. Still, the image of his little head sticking out and speaking to him was warming and Josuah felt like he could understand how this boy could make his mother smile so warmly.
"I know...," he revealed and glanced away to give Brendon the privacy he deserved. "I met him after you fainted..."
Josuah exhaled slowly as he drew his legs down over the side of the bed and glanced down at his body once more. "I don't like him...but I want to be your familiar...and if convincing him is the only way...then I'll do it," Josuah told his master solemnly and was very determined and serious about the entire ordeal.
Brendon's mother drew her gaze to him briefly, but she did not reply to his statement or ask him more questions. Instead she looked to her son and told him that they would both need to speak with his grandfather. Josuah's emerald gaze shifted towards Brendon as he physically heard his heart tighten and begin beating in a much more panicked state. His familiar had met his grandfather once...a man by the name of Fergus and someone he knew was dangerous.
His own features remained unreadable as he sat upon the bed and watched the scene before him unfold. He wanted... Josuah tensed as he banished such childish thoughts from his head. He had lived within the wild...he was very acquainted with reality. Life was never easy and meeting someone who cared for him didn't make the world suddenly a better place.
He could fee his on feelings beginning to surface...and he felt on edge and preparing for the worst. Fergus, Erikur...was there really any difference between two men who held power over many? His expression darkened and he grew tense and uncomfortable when Brendon was just taken from him. His mother held no hesitation or concern over his feelings she merely took her son and proceeded to do as she wanted.
The thought brought on a surge of jealousy within him, but he tried to silence the feeling before it reached his master.
Josuah could see the strained expression on Brendon's mother's face and he wondered if he should explain. It took him a moment to understand why he had held his master in such a way. He supposed...that it was just gratitude. He was thankful for his healing for everything he had given him in such a short time. Brendon had been frustrating but he had also been very kind to him...
"Did anything happen this morning?" The woman asked and Josuah lifted his gaze carefully...he knew what she was referring to before she even went into detail. He didn't like revealing his power...it made him uncomfortable because of what it had done to him in the past. His power had made him a target because others wanted it and he wasn't certain how Brendon's family would differ.
Josuah's gaze returned to his master who still held lightly tinted cheeks as he explained that he had scared him. His own brows drew down into a light frown as he thought about the word 'scare' he hadn't seen it quite like that.
"I..I was hugging him because he was healing me...I was thankful," Josuah spoke up...not wanting Brendon to have to take all the questions alone like last night. He peered towards the woman who had always shown a deep care for her son. But there was something new and peculiar about her expression now, he could see the strain within her gaze and he wondered what it meant...what she was feeling and why.
He was acting on instincts...pure animalistic instincts. Had he been more human he would have hesitated...he would have stopped himself from doing something so abnormal. But the power of Brendon's healing had dulled his reasoning and made him merely do as his body craved.
The sensation of his smaller form fitting perfectly against his chest filled his heart. But the feeling of his wounds being purified ceased far too quickly and the change caused his eyes to open. The embarrassment of his master came in a thick wave, but he didn't know why he was embarrassed...or what had stopped him.
He still felt relaxed and lulled by the feeling of his power. But that peace was disturbed the moment he heard the approach of someone else. Brendon's body was drawn tighter to his own as he turned and even though he was a human a low growl of warning left him as he stared at the door as it opened.
It was only when he set eyes on Brendon's mother did the tension within his body lessen. He had reacted the same when she had come for the platter of food late last night. He heard her coming and had been within his wolf form...his fur bristling and eyes shining within the dark. He was always ready to attack...always prepared for the worst...it came far too naturally for him.
Josuah tried to settled himself down, but it was hard when he was worked up. His gaze returned to Brendon who was squished against him with his cheeks a deep ruby red. He realized then that...grabbing him hadn't been very appropriate at all. His tight grip loosened and he allowed him the chance to pull away as he lowered his own arms and sat in a more comfortable position...unsure of how he should act now that they had company.
Perhaps...Brendon would be more careful the next time he surprised him with his healing ability...
Josuah's gaze narrowed on Brendon when he began repeating what he was saying and for whatever reason smiled. Human's were so...complex and even with his ability to feel his master's emotions...he still was struggling with deciphering them. It made him feel frustrated and he hated not having the control he felt within the wild. Out within the woods he was his own master and depending on what he wanted and how hard he tried...it was always within his hands. But now...he suddenly wasn't alone anymore and adjusting to that was going to be difficult.
"I'm...," Brendon began as he delicate lifted his hand and Josuah sensed somewhat that he was keeping something from him. But he was unable to figure it out until his master was jerking both of his hands out to grasp onto him and declare he was going to heal him.
Emerald eyes widened as shock filled him and his heart jolted as the sensation of the boy's power was instant. His expression faltered completely...as a strange warmth began touching certain parts of his body. There was a lulling sensation to the ability...an addicting feeling to it...and that caused his form to soften beneath the contact.
He hadn't wanted to be healed not until Brendon had regained more of his power. But the boy was stubborn and found a way to get what he wanted. Josuah couldn't argue with him and in fact wanted more of the sensation...the warmth and before he even though about what he was doing...he grasped onto Brendon and drew him forward...into a dominant embrace.
Brendon didn't answer him...instead his eyes wandered over the course of his body until a frown had settled into his features. The look of disappointment entered his heart as his own gaze became guarded as he wanted for some kind of response. But what he was given left him...baffled.
He couldn't decipher the meaning behind Brendon's statement. Had he looked like a child before? Did he think he was too old to be his familiar? Josuah's expression hardened and he didn't look too pleased with his comment.
His emerald gaze lowered to his body and he recalled how he had looked in the bath...his body was more masculine than when he was first changed into a familiar and a great deal of himself was larger too. The thought was embarrassing...but he was determined not to act foolish.
"...How are you feeling?" Josuah instead pressed because he was determined to have Brendon listen to him at least a little. His hand lifted reaching for his forehead to touch him there and see if he could sense his energy.
