Welcome to The Duality of Man, an original animanga role-play that features numerous supernatural creatures. Unfortunately, these various species have distanced themselves because of the war that occurred thousands of years ago, plaguing some with eyes that only see their dualism. While others meddle themself with their differences, two groups fight, each attempting to eliminate the other in for their definition of worldly peace. These two groups of the Terror Response Syndicate (TRS) and the Assembly of Phantoms (AP). With individuals fighting merely over their differences, it brings uncertainty to the outcome of this war.
We happily accept all role-players as long as they obey the rules and are capable of meeting our word count of 50. This does include those who are unfamiliar with this style of role-playing. The staff of The Duality of Man are willing to happily help those who are new to the role-playing world so they feel comfortable on site. Feel free to message the staff if you need help, they can be found here or in the site Discord and will gladly answer questions alongside calm concerns. If you have any suggestions we would love to hear them; guests may use the support board as a suggestion area as well. Should you decide to join, may I say welcome to the site and we all hope you enjoy your time here.
Yours Truely,
The Staff

Summer 2024
Heat has broken through into a glorious summer. The snow has entirely dried through the spring, leaving to the brilliance of the warmer months. Terror activity has risen as people are brought out of their homes, leaving the TRS in a position of consistent work. Each are attempting to maintain victory in the endless struggle for power.
Since the wonderful members of TDOM enjoy the site enough to play around on it, this thread is to assist with the site's tidying! Functionality is important and we want to make the site functional even if its activity will be minimal at best!
Josuah's muzzle rose as he gently breathed in the cold winter air that stretched for miles. It was biting, but he had grown accustomed to it over the years. Still, there were always some nights worse than others. He exhaled stiffly and pressed onward as he continued to place distance between himself and where had stayed months prior. The land surrounding him now was foreign, and although that was dangerous to his survival he had no choice. Erikur's men would continued to hunt him until they successfully captured him which meant he could never stay in one place for too long. It was an unforgiving life, but it was his...and as long as it remained as such he would continue to fight.[break][break]
He was stubborn, but the years had taken a toll on his mind and resolve. He felt as though wandering was the only existence he held now...to forever travel the land never having a shred of a future. These were the thoughts that came to him while he rested beneath the skies in his makeshift dens. His communication with the outside world had all been lost, however, he had come across a few who could speak with him. But Josuah was very distrusting of strangers and often kept his mind absent of thoughts to avoid them believing he was anything more than a wandering wolf.[break][break]
He wasn't desperate for communication...to speak and have company...he enjoyed his solitude and was thankful for a few things. Such as not having to ever hear or see his parents again. He hated them for their betrayal...for selling him to a man who had continued to relentlessly hunt him. He would kill that man if he ever saw him again, but Erikur remained hidden within the safety of his towering mansion and continued to pay others to find him. When he had the misfortune of being caught up to by his men...there were always different powers present. But that constant threat had aided him in his training.[break][break]
Josuah paused within the white blanket of snow when the sound of life reached him. There within the distance he could see the lights of a large estate filled with celebration. He could smell the deep odor of food, but within it there was something sweet. He closed his eyes and parted his muzzle to inhale more of the taste, but the cold winter air was masking. He scoffed irritably, an animalistic grunt as he began forward once more. But as he moved...the scent kept returning and bothering him. The land was large and guarded making any form of exploration impossible. However, despite that he changed directions to bring himself closer to the area where he immediately saw a concrete wall encasing the huge owned land and a less secure metal gate with two guards standing watch.[break][break]
He kept himself hidden as he perched himself into a sitting position and drew his tail over his large paws as he stared past the guards and to the manor were the mysterious scent was emanating from.[break][break]

A
s the large double doors of the Matthews estate swung outward a gust of chilled wind and snow flurries blew directly into the brilliantly lit halls of the foyer, the small floating particles tickling Brendon’s face and dusting his gray coat in white. With it came the chill that was typical of any late night in February. Clutched in one of the gloved hands of the fourteen year old was the temperature regulating charm his mother had given him; an item many no longer went without.
When the thick padding of his deep brown boots stepped down the front steps and onto the shoveled pathway that had been carved out all the way across the courtyard, to the manor’s entrance gates themselves, a pronounced crunch parted underneath his weight, the sound unnaturally loud in the otherwise dead quiet of a winter’s night.
Brendon Matthews, the youngest male in the entire Matthews household, held a sourpuss face, his bottom lip extended in a pout, as he marched his way through the snow covered path, for as you see… he wasn’t a fan of the fancy gatherings and get together's his large family could often put together. He didn’t like the awkward, formal clothing he was forced to wear, or the gel that was smoothed through his hair, or his mother’s pickiness and bad mood. But, more than all of that, he supposed, he simply didn’t like… the crowd. The people. The staring, the talking, and laughing. He didn’t know how many people talked about him or laughed about him, or if they didn’t even notice him at all, but in the end he was always glad to find a way to dart to his escape.
Some of the estate’s staff gave him wary or knowing looks, silent scoldings, and reproach for the fact that they all knew of his antics, and his spoiled ways, and the fact that he wasn’t supposed to be out in the Manor’s courtyard browsing the white wonderland of landscape but instead inside, in the ballroom, at his mother’s side, socializing. But, it didn’t really matter, because Great Grandfather Fergus hadn’t once voiced a displeasure in his actions, and really his voice was the only one that truly mattered.
The thought of his Great Grandfather was a souring one, and with a face he kicked out his left foot and sent some loose snow flying a few feet. The manor grounds were safe and there had never been an incident of a terror getting inside, so going out at all or any hours of any time or any day was completely fine, as far as he was concerned!
But, there was one place that he was forbidden. Brendon paused as he neared the end of the courtyard where his path was met with the black iron of strongly welded gates. Folding his arms across his chest, his amber gaze roamed over to one of the two guards as the man actually spoke out to him. “At it again, are we, young master Brendon?”
“I’m just getting some fresh air,” He replied a little indignantly, pushing his nose into the air in his slight defiance while one of his hands slipped from his coat’s sleeve and he had to quickly try to bring it back up into place, his cheeks growing a little flush from his clumsy misstep.
Looking beyond the iron bars of the front gates, however, sobered the boy’s mood somewhat, as the sight was metaphorically the lock and doors to the large cage he had been trapped in all of his life. He was not allowed off of the premises, and had no knowledge of what laid beyond, other than danger, and terrors, and other terrifying creatures, and beasts.
“Do you really think it’s all that bad out there?” He found himself asking the guard, named Gregory, that he had known for most of his life. Although the man was far beyond the age of fifty, he looked not a single day older than twenty-five.
“All that bad, and even more,” He reassured with a wicked smile, and Brendon just fumed at him before forcefully turning his attention away and purposely stepping forward until he was right at the gates, reaching out to place his hands on the freezing iron of the bars, and then squished his face in between the slots as he gazed out. He had always felt a draw to it; to the outside world, despite its scariness, and its monsters. Even though it made him scared, and looked so dark, and inky, and cast in shadows, it was something that… pulled at his heart. L-Like a wolf, howling to the moon.
Soft flakes of snow began to fall and the land around him felt dead compared to the life within the manor. He was not one to envy the warm glow of the interior, of the world he was no longer apart of, but something drew him to this place. It made time feel as though it had, for a moment, become still and left him with loneliness.[break][break]
It was a foolish and pointless feeling...one that meant nothing and would only slow him down. The estate was no different than any other large plot of land he had journeyed past. He could not dwell when he needed to gather a better lay of the surrounding land before the first light.[break][break]
However, as he began to stand Josuah's ears turned to the gruff sound of doors opening and the silhouette that began towards him. His body stiffened and his heart clenched with a foreign feeling that made him bare his fangs in discomfort. It was then that the source of that sweet smell surfaced and centered on the young male speaking with one of the guards. His features darkened with uncertainty as he lowered his gaze to the snow in order to concentrate. But even then the sound of the male's words reached his ears and found a way through him.[break][break]
The sound of approaching footsteps that were far louder than they should have been caused the wolf to jerk his gaze towards the young man as he frowned and pressed his face to the gate innocently unaware of him.[break][break]
Josuah lowered, crouching down and feeling as though the boy could see him despite that being impossible. His breathing was heavy as he lowered his ears and became very still with his belly to the snow. There was a sensation within him one that he began to recognize as he remained where he was...and that was the growing need to...to protect him.[break][break]
'No,' his own voice echoed within his mind as that feeling brought fourth a war he had thought was over...the war of actually contracting himself...to a master.[break][break]

or a moment, Brendon became lost in the murky shadows of the night beyond the iron gates that protected his home. And a sad sort of feeling began to wash over his petite and boyish form, rising to creep around his heart and encase it in an icy touch. What lied beyond the cage of his home reminded him of the visions he sometimes saw in his dreams. They were very much like the encroaching darkness he could see looming within the dark calico forest, as the dark hour still managed to shroud the blanket of snow in shadows. Shadows that were scary and haunting, but the darkened silhouette was… well, he… didn’t know.
Within the shroud of the forest, a noise of foilage rustling caught Brendon’s attention. It had been nothing more than a whisper of a sound, one to be overlooked for certain, but it stood out to him and brought his amber gaze into that direction. But, there wasn’t anything that he could see, only a feeling of something lurking deep within, and watching. The sensation was somewhat alarming, and spooky, but also made him feel almost transfixed until Gregory, the guard, ended up speaking out to him and causing him to jump in fright.
“All right, chap, it’s time to mosey your way to elsewhere, as we have another guest approaching.” Gregory appeared beside him at the gate, outstretching one hand to the iron bars with the intention to open the entrance for the arriving vehicle.
Brendon’s gaze moved from Gregory and out toward the lights he could see approaching up the drive, and then over — to a glimpse of what he thought to be emerald irises shining in the shadows of Calico forest, for only the barest of a second, before they disappeared as though they never were. Brendon’s heart immediately thumped harshly within his chest, blood rushing into his cheeks, making his face feel warm, and not knowing what else to do he began to bound off along the trail of the wall bordering their premises, wondering with a thundering heart what he had seen in the forest line.
Josuah watched as the boy drew his gaze towards him...and without the coverage of darkness he would have been seen. But the large trees encased him along with fallen trunks and dead bushes. Still, to be gazing into the eyes of someone he felt the need to shield was consuming. He had never felt drawn to someone before, but his parents often spoke of that feeling...of that contentment. But he didn't feel at peace...he felt alert and fearful of the boy's lure. He was being foolish...allowing anything to distract him from the reality...the reality of what a familiar was...nothing more than a servant...a meaningless existence to serve someone else and never live for themselves.[break][break]
The young wolf knew there were familiars who remained without a contract, but they all suffered from a loss of not having a purpose...a master to condemn them. He needed to leave this place...to find the strength to stand and run away like he had been for years.[break][break]
The sound of someone approaching in the distance caused his gaze to finally break from the boy in order to collect their surroundings. But the sharp cry of surprise coming from the young male instantly drew him back. His fur bristled without his order and he felt protective...as though something was going to happen to the boy.[break][break]
Why was this happening to him now? He felt taunted by his inability...by his festering hatred towards his species...and to be so easily pulled into the call. His parents were wrong he did not belong to anyone. He bore his fangs and dug his claws into the open snow as he began to retreat from the ground, but as he did his eyes caught sight of the stranger departing, moving along the large concrete wall that encased his home.[break][break]
With the approaching carriage he had a chance to slip inside...but he wouldn't take that risk... However, he did move towards the opposite side of the wall quietly but he convinced himself that it wasn't unconscious...he was making the choice on his own to investigate more.[break][break]

omewhere along the way Brendon had grabbed a long stick that extended at least six inches outward and had the diameter of a dime, using it to hit the nearby bushes and trunks of trees, and drag it along the stones that made up the construction of the wall. Soft, white, clouds of breath puffed from his mouth, although the charm he had pocketed continued to keep him reasonably warm.
He wondered what it was that he had seen in the night, beyond the gates, lurking in the shadows. Had it been anything at all? Or was his imagination running wild? He had felt the presence of someone or something so keenly, but it could have just as likely been one of his imaginary games again. Sometimes, he could spook himself, when there was never anything actually there. The thought was a disheartening one, although he wasn’t sure why, since the thought of lurking, glowing, green eyes wasn’t exactly… friendly.
As he continued ahead in the way he did, Brendon wondered how long he would be able to stay outside before his mother came to retrieve him. Whenever their family had big, important, get together’s like this one, she usually came angry. Brendon's wandering ceased within one of the smaller garden areas, as he looked over toward a bench that was situated against the wall. It was completely covered in snow, but the thought that occurred to him wasn’t one that required him to sit… but to climb.
Josuah's ears continued to flicker and move, listening both to the boy's movement and the surrounding forest. He was choosing to follow the stranger, but would not be caught off guard. He knew that he was wasting time, that he shouldn't have begun stalking the younger male, but despite his thoughts he continued. He could hear the sound of a stick clashing with multiple surfaces and the soft crunch of each step that dug into the snow as the boy unsuspectingly wandered.[break][break]
If he could follow him so easily than what was preventing others from hunting him? Josuah's mind surged with thoughts, thoughts he felt were forced upon him by his species, but could not stop. His parents words haunted him, their praises towards sensing each other and protecting the one they chose to be their master. Perhaps if they had been honest with him instead of creating fanciful stories he wouldn't have become so hostile with them. But such a thought was pointless because his parents were capable of many more atrocities that he was happily rid of now.[break][break]
The younger male had stopped moving and Josuah did the same, as he peered towards the concrete wall and eyed the distance. He could make the jump onto the ledge, but he would leave himself in the open. But he wanted to see the stranger...to study him until he figured out why the feelings inside of him existed. Why even now he couldn't just turn and leave even though that was the safest route.[break][break]
His emerald gaze narrowed, as his heart tightened and for once his own naive curiosity got the better of him...as he drew back, and ran towards the wall, using his powerful hind legs to scale the wall and land silently atop the ledge.[break][break]

ith both of his hands reaching out, the covered fabric at his palms flattened against the stone wall, only his fingertips feelings its icy temperature, as he began to step up onto the snow covered bench, one foot at a time. A soft grunt parted from his mouth as he straightened, his legs somewhat wobbly from the curved surface of the bench. But, as he looked up, arms outstretched, and hands against the wall, he realized with an increasing amount of annoyance, that he had barely made it halfway. He couldn’t have even hoped to look over the top, unless he manifested his wings and simply flew to the height.
He most likely would have done it, the light already bursting around him to form at his shoulders and back, in autumn hues, when he was completely startled by the large shadowed silhouette of a creature as it appeared at the top of the wall, looming down over him, with the same piercing emerald he had glimpsed before!
Brendon’s heart lurched, a loud gasp escaped his mouth, his concentration shattered and the summoning light dissipating in a glowing dust of sparkles, as he quite literally fell over backwards, off of the bench, the coat on his back meeting the cold crunch of snow as he fell into it, a strangled cry of shock and fear escaping him as he went down. "A-Ahh!"
The boy's body fell from the bench he had situated himself on, and would have simply fallen into the soft bed of snow beneath him. But despite the lack of danger...Josuah's wolf sense became heightened and entangled within his familiar. His reaction was purely instinctual as he jolted down from the wall, and perfectly behind the child as he fell into him. His tail and body both curled protectively around the stranger and the sensation of his weight against him felt jarring.[break][break]
Within his mind he had caught sight of the gold dissipating sparkles, but the memory was fleeting and taken over by the threat his fall. Now, however, there was more...a sensation of connection...of bonding despite no contract being signed. He didn't know how to feel...or have any answers to his questions.[break][break]
Having a master had been a hated subject for him when he had been let down by the value of it all. But when he was young it had been something he had cherished... That feeling struggled with him now as he used his own body to protect someone he didn't know... but who had the familiarity of someone he did...and who he was suppose to guard.[break][break]

e wasn’t certain how it had gone about happening, but as he fell backward and from the bench he had been standing on, instead of sinking into the cold white snow, he was somehow met with the warm, firm, and furry body of an animal. Wisps of smooth and soft, golden, fur brushed against his face, tickling his nose, causing him to sneeze even in despite of the fear that had gripped harshly at his heart.
His breath had caught within his throat as he sealed his mouth and refused to breathe another breath, an odd sensation falling over him as he watched what looked to be a long and bushy golden tail thumping down across his midsection to rest. There was no sound of snarling, and no sense of aggression, but the fact that a large beast-like creature had swooped down, with its glowing green eyes, and had been previously lurking within the darkness of a forest, had Brendon in a fright.
Squeezing his eyes tightly shut, blood rushed to pool into his cheeks, turning them red, as he tried to concentrate on what he had learned so far about teleportation. His body dissipated into the air, becoming particles of matter that drifted like snowfall. But, within a matter of seconds, the full and solid form of his re-materialized body came back into existence, simply falling right back onto the large wolf beneath him.
He fell face first into the blanket of warm fur, and the glimpse he had been given of the creature had been… only somewhat calming. I-It hadn’t looked as ferocious or scary as he had imagined, a—a-and he knew that some people became animals! M-Maybe he was… w-was just a person! But, he wasn’t altogether convinced, and still cautious and frightful as he tried to pick himself up from the large wolf’s body and finally face him.
Josuah's apparent turmoil was stolen from him when the boy did not scream or fight his presence but instead...sneezed. Golden ears perked up and he turned more towards him to see that his large tail had practically buried the young male due to his small stature. His mouth parted carefully drawing in the scent of the stranger and he could taste the lingering flavor of fear, but still he would not run.[break][break]
However, he soon saw and felt the swirling magic of teleportation as the boy attempted to escape, but his resolve was weak and only ended up putting him in more danger as he fell back atop him. A low gruff left him as the male finally physically began scrambling from his body in order to stand to his full height to perhaps run away. But curiosity seemed to take hold of him and it caused Josuah's gaze to darken as the amber eyed child peered down at him with no regard for his own safety.[break][break]
His own heart was pounding from the exertion of everything, but he felt a form of aggravation over the boy's naivety. No matter who or what he was the boy should have been on alert or had someone taking care of him.[break][break]

rendon wasn’t certain why he wasn’t more scared, especially when there was an abnormally large wolf within such close proximity of him. Maybe it was because he had never actually been in any true danger before; he had never seen a terror, and he had never met anyone of suspicious or violent intent. The most experience he had in regards to unsavory behavior was that of his extended family, but the household staff, guests, and strangers were completely separate within his mind.
Still, the alarm bells were ringing within his mind, which was why he was thinking about it in the first place, and felt like he should have reasonably been more scared. He probably should have been shaking within his boots, or on the verge of tears, because a large, carnivorous, and feral wolf had pounced into the grounds and was now staring him down!
But, what if his feelings — his intuition — were right? Maybe he wasn’t scared because, as a nephilim, he could sense that the wolf before him was not just a simple animal? Actually, Brendon realized with a bit of a start, his eyes widening ever so slightly, that what he was sensing and seeing was…
“You’re cursed,” He mumbled out, clearly shocked and also sympathetic. He had no idea that the curse had been used in a way to keep it hidden, because for Brendon, now that he had taken note, it stood out as completely obvious. The negative energy sweltered around the golden wolf in a thick and ominous smog.
The male before him was young, but not completely a child. From afar, the way he held himself and spoke with the guard earlier...Josuah would have expected him up close to be far younger than he was. His features were very gentle, his skin pampered and the grip of his hands were soft. He was very well dressed and swarmed with the scent of others from the celebration occurring within his manor.[break][break]
There was purity with the way his large eyes stared down at him with intense interest. But his actions were still dangerous and had he been any other creature the boy could have found himself...killed. The thought of harm coming to the one he felt the need to protect...was alarming. He hadn't experienced the sensation of guardianship that his parents spoke fondly of. But he felt it with this stranger...and that somehow they were connected.[break][break]
That kept him grounded where he was...even though this boy was a threat to him...a threat to the freedom he had endlessly wandered to keep. Josuah remained very still as he silently tried to assess the boy's true form. What species was he? Could he sense what he was? The large wolf felt as though he could...sense the male's feelings, more than just fear...which was something he could sense as a wolf. Fear could mingle with the emotion of uncertainty, someone who was nervous, and he could sense danger to a degree...if a person's intents were bad. But it didn't work with all creatures and he shouldn't have been able to sense a delicate piece of curiosity...and then concern.[break][break]
His features shifted somewhat when the boy blurted out that he was cursed and appeared completely taken aback. And ultimately, it wasn't the acknowledgement of his curse that startled him, but rather the fact that a child had so easily seen it. Erikur's curse had been particularly cruel with ensuring not many could see him for what he truly was. The reminder of that man and his own inability to break his curse filled him with a silent bitterness as he drew his gaze down in thought.[break][break]

e held no contact with the wolf before him but, alarmingly, he could actually see the chain. He could see the link as clear as day amidst the swirling smog that encased the beast, and he was certain that he was in fact one the of the magicals who was human but could shift their form into beast. For some reason, it… reminded him of his dreams. The blackness that consumed the area, and the shadowed silhouette of a man he could barely make out. He felt as though he could see the link now, within his dreams, but he wasn’t certain if it had actually been there or not.
“I can break it,” He whispered to him, having taken note of how the wolf had lowered its gaze to stare down at the ground the separated them. Brendon wasn’t certain if he had looked away in defiance or despair. “I can break the curse that’s been placed on you,” He reassured him, and squatted down, bent at his knees, with his head turned to the side so he could look at him in the eye with a reassuring and goofy smile.
“I’m a novice,” He told him but then grew a bit cocky and proud. “But your’s seems like it’s really easy. I already know how to do it! I didn’t even need to concentrate or do anything! It’s super easy.” He sounded so proud of himself, a big goofy and excited grin on his face.
"I can break it," the boy whispered to him and his tone held a sweetness to it. He was attentive to him and had no hesitation in believing he was merely a humanoid species trapped within his animal form. Although, seeing the curse was impressive and not something he had happened across before...he also knew that this male was not particularly cautious when it came to anything. So, one could assume he was merely...blindly concluding that he was human and not actually seeing the truth.[break][break]
The stranger repeated himself as though he were solidifying exactly what he had meant when he said he could 'break it'. His naivety and innocence were both frustrating and oddly...warming. This was the longest conversation held with him since...Erikur had cursed him, but he wasn't certain if he was ready to reveal that he could understand him.[break][break]
Josuah was surprise when the male actually squatted down to peer sideways and give him a childish smile. His emerald gaze lifted towards him, unable to resist the temptation to see his growing excitement. The boy told him that he was a novice and then proceeded to brag about how easy the curse would be to diminish.[break][break]
It should have been irritating or heartwarming. But Josuah found it all instead...confusing. He had lost a great deal of his humanity...and the world of people felt so far. There were no conversation within the forest, or emotions outside of raw survival...it was an empty land with nothing but beautiful landscapes. The world of humanoid species was one with a plethora of possibilities. And it was overwhelming to him.[break][break]
Josuah's gaze remained on the male's cheeky smile, but he didn't give him any form of conformation. He...did enjoy being spoken to...even though that was a pointless feeling. He finally broke his gaze away and began pacing around him, circling and taking in his petite growing form before finally sitting in front of him...and shaking his head slowly. Inside his heart was beating heavily because...he was revealing to the male that he could understand him. It was dangerous to become close to anyone...because he had been betrayed before, but he couldn't bring himself to just leave...so instead he stayed...contemplating what it was he wanted.[break][break]
