Welcome to The Duality of Man, an original animanga role-play that features numerous supernatural creatures. Unfortunately, these various species have distanced themselves because of the war that occurred thousands of years ago, plaguing some with eyes that only see their dualism. While others meddle themself with their differences, two groups fight, each attempting to eliminate the other in for their definition of worldly peace. These two groups of the Terror Response Syndicate (TRS) and the Assembly of Phantoms (AP). With individuals fighting merely over their differences, it brings uncertainty to the outcome of this war.
We happily accept all role-players as long as they obey the rules and are capable of meeting our word count of 50. This does include those who are unfamiliar with this style of role-playing. The staff of The Duality of Man are willing to happily help those who are new to the role-playing world so they feel comfortable on site. Feel free to message the staff if you need help, they can be found here or in the site Discord and will gladly answer questions alongside calm concerns. If you have any suggestions we would love to hear them; guests may use the support board as a suggestion area as well. Should you decide to join, may I say welcome to the site and we all hope you enjoy your time here.
Yours Truely,
The Staff

Summer 2024
Heat has broken through into a glorious summer. The snow has entirely dried through the spring, leaving to the brilliance of the warmer months. Terror activity has risen as people are brought out of their homes, leaving the TRS in a position of consistent work. Each are attempting to maintain victory in the endless struggle for power.
Since the wonderful members of TDOM enjoy the site enough to play around on it, this thread is to assist with the site's tidying! Functionality is important and we want to make the site functional even if its activity will be minimal at best!

there are some ideas that should be evident enough, one would be the need to feed. to be alive. the rush went to her head. even so, the need to be away has always been well developed in her mind. imogen knew well enough to get away is to be safe. the mount skyline is one of the many places where solitude is the greatest and have the most comfort. as wings carried her through the skies, she could feel the wind on her feathers and on her face. it came a rather suitable experience after such a long time spent in her floral shop.
clear skies and no one to disturb her. cracking her neck just a bit, imogen felt her body become more precised and ready. holding onto her messenger bag, she took out her book about adventure upon the moor and way beyond the point. it should have been a nonfiction with the way the world is. taking in a deep breath, she noticed the hint of blood in the air. not too far, might be a suffering deer or perhaps a bear killing its cub because it was going to die young due to an infectious disease.
"oh, did i disturb you?" her body was already where death was. perhaps it was the honing of her fallen self. after all, she is no angel anymore so death has become a close relative. "you also have some blood around your mouth -- maybe your entire body too."
she sighed a bit before rummaging through her bag finding a towel. "i was going to find a lake to take a dip in, but, this seems a bit more urgent. you should also consider on maybe checking if the deer has parasites or anything contagious."
how long ago was it that she felt so lost in this world again? after the heavens banished her, she felt nothing more than the hatred of all beings flooding her. the normality now was simply appalling. however, after living for so long she felt nothing could be worse than seeing the person she cared the most about appear before her. the long forgotten arm covered in bandages throbbed in pain whenever she thought of her. no matter how much she wanted to forget about the girl, there was no mistaking the aches in her heart.
to think that after living for so long, i would stop being a child. chasing after my own shadow all the time wanting to be forgiven for the sins i have committed. she knew fully well, too well that the one above would give her a chance. but, who prays anymore? all religious fanatics find their way into cults and sucked into a world far gone. how long ago was her fall?
while her mind faded to and from, the thought of her -- imogen looked through the aisle of books. her fingers gliding on each spine of books her eyes laid on. if only she was back at home, but, her selection of books were old. ancient to those humans who are around now. slightly turning her head, she spoke to the person next to her. "excuse me, what book would you recommend? any kind of book would be fine."

hummingbird heartbeat,
there are only a select few things ishilde could understand fully. herself and the plan only the person upstairs would know of. then again, even they could change their mind at any moment. perhaps it's best to keep everything a mystery, a monstrosity of everything that is to come in a far future date. however it may be, she could only hope to protect young valentine at all cost. she needed a meaning in her life once more.
"i did help her escape the prison, but truly, i could never protect her from herself," a solemn smile crossed her lips before her eyes dropped to the young girl's hand. she took it gently into her own. "elisabeth was a difficult person to attend to, even so, when she passed on, she despised the fact i lived and she didn't."
it was slow. the steady beating of the young girl's heart became normal for her. her own thoughts then became distant. she was reminded on how mortal humans could be. until then, i will do whatever i can to help her.
/ TIME SKIP /
"valentine, wake up, you can't stay in my bed any longer," the angel sighed. she felt exasperated. for how long until the ceremony? until then, she needed to urge the young mistress to wake up. still a child from since long ago, it felt like a few months ago, she was a young girl looking up to ishilde and begging her to sleep together.
now, it seemed as if the young mistress has found yet another way to go into ishilde room and lay in bed. one day the master of the house will likely kill me on the spot, if that's even possible. "valentine, i'll give you a kiss if you wake up."

hummingbird heartbeat,
laying in bed next to her, ishilde smiles a soft chuckle leaving her lips. "if i were to talk about my lady problems, i think you would call me gross." a sigh leaving her lips as she lays on her back, looking up at the ceiling before laying back on her side, head prop up by her hand, elbow digging into the pillow.
"well, okay, how about a story about when i was young? it's a tale of how i met your family before my job to protect you," she teasingly and lightly pulls on the young von maria's cheek.
"you see, before meeting your family, i came down to this earth to help mankind, and it was the greatest thing i could do -- since for some reason, the good man up there hasn't spoken since then. well, you see, i came at the time of war, where everyone wants to shed so much blood for territory and power.
i wasn't even fifteen yet, maybe fourteen and i was so afraid. the village i was meant to save was destroyed by the humans. there was a lot of dead bodies, and i was taken alongside with other young women and children. i remember i met this girl, she was really nice and we stuck with each other for a long while.
all the guards treated us horribly, but, i made sure that girl, what was her name," she pauses, wracking her brain to remember. "ah, it was elisabeth, yes, she was a nice person. i remember how she would cling onto my arm and tell me that i should protect her at all costs.
it's funny, when we both escaped from them, i did protect her. but, later, after years of being free, she passed away. she cursed my name. i guess, afterwards, i couldn't think of who i could protect properly. so i travelled, and lo and behold. as i came to romania, your father saw me beat up four sized up guards and hired me to be your guardian angel. or at least, that's how i see it," a smile on her lips as she looks at her.
running fingers through valentine's hair, a soft smile comes to her lips. "i'll do anything to protect you valentine, even sacrificing my life if i have to make sure you're safe."

[attr="class","seeyoubody"]a rose and it's thorns. beautiful and splendid. sharp and deadly. the rose is like a double edged sword waiting for a victim to fall for its beauty. imogen was no rose, imogen threw herself down to the levels of a thorn. she's the embodiment of thorns. sharp, painful. she hurts those she cares the most for, causing them to bleed from the pain and the torture she has left in her wake. why was it so hard to talk about her fall? why?[break][break]deep breath, she looked at the pained von maria. hesitation, uncertainty. she needed to keep her cool in order to talk about it -- or else she could fall back into her tomb again. falling, falling all the way down in self-loathing and depreciation. she took in a deep breath and leaned agains the wall behind her; she spoke softly and chose her words carefully. too damn afraid to let any of her emotions out.[break][break]"i don't want your pity, i don't want anything like that towards me," yellow eyes flashed as she recalled the night. "in the letter, i already stated that i couldn't protect you. in the letter, i told you i had to disappear for something i committed. i couldn't stay by your side. it was my own fault, my anger took the best of me."[break][break]she felt a laugh break from her lips. "hah, one of heaven's strongest -- fell due to an irrelevant emotion. an irrelevant feeling." [break][break]she stopped and looked at valentine, searching those amber eyes for any sign of... well, anything. she continued, shifting the weight of her legs. "i fell..." her voice went quiet. "i fell for killing another angel out of anger and for that, i paid the price."[break][break]explain to her why you left her like that, why you left her when she needed you the most. or will you hide that from her? too afraid to break her heart? imogen turned her head to the side, her long black hair covering her face. her bandaged arm was shaking. "this arm, this cursed arm... do you want to know why it's bandaged?"[break][break]she slowly unwrapped the bandages, starting from her hand, she revealed her skin. it was cracked, a literal crack as if her whole arm was made out of wood or even earth. within the crevice of those cracks, a dark pulse dripped on the ground. "this, this is what my sin has done for me. and even then...i can't bear for people to look at it -- or maybe i'm just a damn fool, a fool who's too afraid to be judged.."[break][break]imogen wrapped her hand again, before looking at valentine with a pained expression. "i'm sorry for leaving... if i could turn back time, i would... but this -- this made me run away. i ran away in fear of myself, i'm the coward."[break][break]her lips trembled, and her hand dug into her bandaged arm. "please leave already..."[break][break] @valentine

THIS WILL BE THE DAY,
imogen felt a headache -- somehow, she knew this would happen. what next? a large blizzard was going to hit lorsette in a matter of days? who knows. with her face in a neutral look, the older woman smiled uncertainly. "i'm sorry sir, my employees has misplaced the order and i just saw it today, if you don't mind on waiting for a while, i can have it finished in a couple of minutes. you don't need to pay for it, it'll be on the house."
the question of an extra room for the hex teleportation surprised her even though it shouldn't have. a frown played on her lips before nodding. "there is one, i'll have to ask my employee to clean it before you use it, no one usually asks for it."
stepping away from the counter, hands reaching for a piece of paper with the order she scanned it for a few moments before nodding. "there's a lounge right over there," she pointed towards the huge window of the store. "if you'd like i can bring some coffee or tea for you while you wait."
lord if you can hear me, just make this day over with already, she tried not to sigh in front of the customer. the frustration of a single employee not doing their job was too hectic, too problematic.

WHEN IT FALLS,
tick tock
tick tock
the clock behind the register echoes in the empty store. sitting in her usual hiding spot, imogen flipped through her book slowly. it was interesting, if you count the amount of gore the author needlessly explains. instead of resting the book, she kept her eyes on them.
due to the cold weather, everyone was staying inside their homes -- those brave souls outside, have mercy on their souls. some people need bring the bacon home for the family and others still need to get money for their own purpose of whatever they desire.
tick tock
tick tock
again the clock passes by. time always pushing all things by. taking in a deep breath, she closed her book and turned her head a bit. "amaryllis, i think we can close the store for now, don't you think?"
If she wasn't so old, she would have had the burst of energy to actually move forward. To go about her days like any youthful person. However, she wasn't training herself anymore. Why would she? She was no longer an angel from heaven at all. I guess I can train just for a little while...
Watching such a youthful person run by her, she considered on going back to train her body again. Maybe after I deal with things with the store... and myself. After all, there was someone she needed to forget once more.
---
The thief laughed triumphantly, losing the woman with long black hair. So close! They just needed to go a little more further than the park. And as all chases go, it had to come to an end.
Before reaching, they felt someone push them against their back causing both to fall down. "F*ck!" the thief shouted angrily, turning their head to see the person who did it.
"This is mine! Get the f*ck away from me! That lady was lyin' the whole time to you." They were panicking now. Cornered, or rather, below someone.

hummingbird heartbeat,
'my guardian angel, always watching my back. where would i be without you?' ishilde remained quiet at the question. somewhere deep inside of the angel's heart, she felt a tug of pain. if ishilde wasn't the one to protect valentine, who would be in her place right now? i wonder that too, miss.
she couldn't bear to see valentine with someone else other than her -- and her heart was singing a chorus she never felt before. even annabelle would be in shock. moreover, what is this feeling... i should dismiss it.
"pff," a small sound escapes her lips before she catches herself. "ah, i forgot about your mother... hopefully i don't join that oldies club for too long."
ishilde saw the blush on her mistress' cheeks. she knew how the girl felt -- and she dismisses it so easily. why? out of love for the girl, however, not the same love valentine sees in ishilde.
once she was gone, ishilde looked around her, brushing her hands on her arms. it was quiet, and the night became still. the only sound were her shoes on the carpet. the young angel bit her bottom lip. i know i can leave and go back -- but, at the same time, i feel more at ease with her.
she hums softly before heading through the door to valentine's room. she saw the girl atop her bed, triumphantly looking at her. closing the door she took off her shoes and left them near the edge of the bed. "you must get in bed first before i actually tell you the story," she looked up at valentine with a twinkle in her eye as she sat on the edge of the bed.
"I see you have a good eye," she nodded with a smile. Taking a chair nearby she picked it up carefully making sure she doesn't destroy any plants or vase along the way.
This area of the store meant a lot to her. After all, this was where she decided this empty lot needed to be filled with life -- filled with flowers as the winter days would come in.
Surrounded by greenery, the theme for this small corner varies on the season. And as the winter comes by the storm, she turned it into a moonlight garden -- or at least have the flowers necessary to build one.
Not too long, she placed the chair down and nodded. "Those were given to me by an old friend, though, now that I think about it, I wonder if he is still alive to this day."
When she thought of said old friend, she remembered how small of a lifespan all humans have. Soon, the uncanny will live longer than the ones who were meant to rule this earth. "Go ahead and sit, I'll have the tea ready in just a few moments."
Without further delay on her steps, Imogen made her way to her office, an electric kettle and some bags of tea. She popped her head out just a bit. "What kind of tea do you like? I have a wide variety."

THIS WILL BE THE DAY,
forget me not settled in its usual morning routine. imogen being the first to arrive and letting in the workers who were assigned for the shift.
and there, the day droned on. the usual mundane routine. this was what she wanted -- a store reminding her that there can be a second chance for someone like her and her damned past.
"what do you mean the order isn't finished?" she hissed through her teeth. a annoyed sigh escaped her lips as she looked intently on the staff work. "never mind about your mistake, take this as a lesson."
she felt a shiver run up her spine, the cool air making its way inside. this was a day to fear, when a customer comes in and the order is not ready. imogen let out another sigh before dismissing the worker.
"please do not forget next time, i'll handle it as soon as i can," she moved behind the counter as she noticed someone coming in. i'll have retrain everyone again, this is ridiculous.
"may i ask for who, sir?" she looked over to him. her hands on the counter, a decent smile on her lips. better than her

[break][break] question after question, and no answer to each one of them. imogen felt sick. she felt her body wanting to reject whatever feelings she had. but a spark ran through her body and she turned a blind eye to it. nothing like this is true. there is no such thing as love when one wants to forget the other. imogen wanted to forget about valentine altogether, she wanted to live her life in peace and quiet. [break][break] peace and quiet does not exist... [break][break] 'why did you leave? what happened?' [break][break] she felt her hand on her arm, she flinched and pulled her arm away quickly; her right hand caressing her left arm. get yourself together imogen, cowering in front of her would do nothing. she turned her head slowly, looking at valentine with sorrow in her eyes. "if i told you, you'd ask more questions," she softly replied, she was doing her best to, she has to. [break][break] imogen carefully leaned against a wall, her eyes looking beyond valentine. "why, why did you kiss me back, why did you kiss the person who broke your heart?" she was angry, upset, and most of all, frustrated. why does a princess of a cult have to ask the question, why does she have to take charge of things? imogen didn't want to talk to her, let alone look at her. [break][break] if she focused on her, she would see the mistake she has made -- a mistake she cannot undo. wrapped in self-loathing, imogen looked at valentine once more, hand tightening on her left arm. "if i told you, would you leave this store and never come back?" she was hurt, perhaps going as far to say she was broken beyond repair right now. [break][break] if fate played such a dangerous game, why did it have to be here? why couldn't it be someone else? imogen wanted to run away again. she's a coward and a person familiar on running away from those who care about her. however, she wanted to stay here and if it means ignoring valentine to live her life like this then so be it.
