Welcome to The Duality of Man, an original animanga role-play that features numerous supernatural creatures. Unfortunately, these various species have distanced themselves because of the war that occurred thousands of years ago, plaguing some with eyes that only see their dualism. While others meddle themself with their differences, two groups fight, each attempting to eliminate the other in for their definition of worldly peace. These two groups of the Terror Response Syndicate (TRS) and the Assembly of Phantoms (AP). With individuals fighting merely over their differences, it brings uncertainty to the outcome of this war.
We happily accept all role-players as long as they obey the rules and are capable of meeting our word count of 50. This does include those who are unfamiliar with this style of role-playing. The staff of The Duality of Man are willing to happily help those who are new to the role-playing world so they feel comfortable on site. Feel free to message the staff if you need help, they can be found here or in the site Discord and will gladly answer questions alongside calm concerns. If you have any suggestions we would love to hear them; guests may use the support board as a suggestion area as well. Should you decide to join, may I say welcome to the site and we all hope you enjoy your time here.
Yours Truely,
The Staff
season
Summer 2024
Heat has broken through into a glorious summer. The snow has entirely dried through the spring, leaving to the brilliance of the warmer months. Terror activity has risen as people are brought out of their homes, leaving the TRS in a position of consistent work. Each are attempting to maintain victory in the endless struggle for power.
Since the wonderful members of TDOM enjoy the site enough to play around on it, this thread is to assist with the site's tidying! Functionality is important and we want to make the site functional even if its activity will be minimal at best!
She easily offered up what had come to mind instantly, though they didn’t have to end up settling on it unless the idea was liked well enough. She perked up again at his words, her confidence soaring. He really didn’t mind? ”That’s what I was thinking. And even places you’ve been to a million times before look different when the season changes! A place looks different in winter than it does in spring!” Spring was more bright and cheerful, and winter was a monochrome wonderland. Summer was sunshine and rainstorms, fall a culmination of russet leaves and orange pumpkins.
”Mhm! We could do almost anything!” Her voice was brimming with energy, overflowing with excitement like a tap left unattended. In her own right perhaps she was a bit like spring, bright and full of possibilities. Pure and full of different shades of feeling, mixing together to form her own unique palette. Would she become a new friend like she so desperately hoped? She really hoped so, she wanted more friends.
She is hopeful, things were looking good. So far, she hadn’t been too bubbly to handle. Sometimes she was merely brushed aside, or called out as annoying. A blissful smile tugged over her lips as she nodded, amused but happy. Yup.” She tilted her head a little, as he offered the strawberries. ”Sure, I’ll try one.” She glanced at her own food for a moment, looking for something to offer as well but nothing really seemed interesting. Delicately plucking a single strawberry, she took a bite. ”Oh ... this is good.”
It was finally time?! The depths of Holly’s eyes positively glittered. Mentor....she had to show him that she wasn’t just a kid who didn’t know what they were getting into. If the girl had a tail, it’d be wagging about a mile a minute, if she had ears, they’d be perked up and standing at attention. As it was, she was having a surprisingly hard time refraining from bouncing off the walls and howling like some moon-crazed puppy. Oh, but what would he be like? He’d have to be totally cool, right? Everyone she’s seen in TRS so far seemed super strong, anyways!
Holly’s feet are swift as she makes tracks towards where she was supposed to be meeting him - though she notices a few glances in her direction. Oh...oh was she not conducting herself properly? Ah, that wouldn’t be good to make a bad impression. For a moment one of her teacher’s constant reminders rang through her mind, a stern chastising of no running in the halls! Surely, the rules would be the same here?! She slowed her feet and her frantic excite-able pace for a moment, before she realized, in her excitement she had definitely not gone in the right direction at all.
Um .... where was she again...? Looking around her for a sign, after a while Holly gives in and just asks someone. For a moment she’s alarmed - she was quite a distance away - and the meeting was supposed to be soon. Abandoning any notion of trying to look mature for the sake of not daring to show up late - the young wolf shifter springs back into action with a boundless single-target goal in mind that surely would show a testament to her focus.
Starting to slow just as she began to approach the correct area proved to be something of a disastrous moment. Trying to stop too fast, Holly trips over her own feet and crashes to the ground. With a somewhat heavy thud, she lands on her stomach, feeling less hurt than mortified at the horrifically ungraceful arrival. Almost too quickly she picks herself up and dusts herself off - refusing to make eye contact. ”Ah...haha...I’m not late...am I?” So much for looking mature and reliable.
Holly admittedly often put everything but the fun stuff on the backburner, which was likely a bad habit to get into. It lead to her needing to be pushed to complete her homework at times, often avoiding subjects she found hard or boring at times. She wasn’t really doing it to be bad really, just found tedious things unpleasant. Now that Shib was here though, things were brighter! How else would they have planned anything? Surely she would come to know him better now, at least a little.
His head nodded at her question, and her eyes sparkles hopefully. What kind of idea did he have in store? She knew that sometimes her own bright exuberance had a tendency to intimidate or dazzle others, but she couldn’t always hide her excitement. Painting huh? That sounded really fun! ”That sounds really fun! What if we tried a landscape...? Oh, hmm, that might a little too normal? Unless we did like a scene from a move or something...”
She blinked and smiled, not really judging him for that. ”I’m Holly, though I think I mighta said that already too. Well, now you know for sure!” Her tone is cheerful, and she seemed free of anxiety or judgement. She was honestly just having a nice time talking about their project, and spending time with a classmate she didn’t know as well. Little things like this, they really made the world turn.
The breeze toyed with strands of black and red hair, gentle as it tugged at her locks. It’s a gentle hum in the air, a quiet hushed ambient voice. Only the cold unyielding ground and this breeze paid testament to this meeting, between a lost girl and her saviour. Today was a bookmark of change, a branching path in the trail of fate. The girl touched by tiredness and dust, dirty from days exploring the streets on her own. Soon though, it would change for the better.
She stilled as her back was rubbed, the motion serving to calm her. Her trembling slowly began to completely cease, and her breathing became more regulated. Now that she was coming down from the high emotions, she was starting to settle down. Whilst it would still be some time before she was okay, she could become calm for now. Sooner or later, she would find herself able to move on.
She’s still now, breathing with a normal rhythm. She was feeling more tired than not, now that her feelings had overflown. If she could stay just like this, then she could be okay. As he spoke, she lifted her watery silver eyes to look at him. His hold had loosened, but she remained in place. ”Okay. I’ll come with you.” She gives her head a nod, before finally releasing her own hold on him. ”I trust you...”
She didn’t know how or why, but she did. He seemed to know what he was doing, and wasn’t really scary at all. ”Umm...I’m tired...” Her voice is small, and she looked down at her feet. She couldn’t sleep very well on the streets, nowhere was comfy. Maybe once there was someplace a little more cozy, she would fall right asleep.
Humming lightly under her breath, she pokes today’s food with her plastic fork. She glanced up as someone sat across from her, a bright smile flitting over her face. It was her assigned project partner, probably come to talk about their project! Holly had been hopeful about this one, as she has been meaning to make more friends lately.
”Hi!” Holly’s silvery eyes sparkled - she was truly happy to see the other joining her. Sometimes she was used to being on her lonesome, though she occasionally had others sit with her from time to time. Today had been shaping up to be a lonely day, well up until now. Something catches Holly’s eye though.....did his eyes just change color?! ”Yep.”
No, they really had and that was really cool. ”Yeah...hmm...” Holly pauses for a moment, thinking back to what she had considered doing. Holly was admittedly terrible at planning ahead, more or less the kind of student who flew by the seat of their pants, as it were. ”Well, is there .... any preference or something you really like?” Holly is genuinely curious, as she didn’t know much about him yet.
Just for a little bit, she needed someone to cling to. Someone that could make everything feel alright, even if just for a little while. The world would move on and continue forward, even as cruel as such a sentiment might seem. Little did Holly know, that this would spark her true desire to become a hero that could help others. Eventually the tears would dry, and mark the return of her smiles.
Her face pressed against him as she let her tears roll, closing her eyes as the corners burned. Her body quivered as she sobbed, allowing her own sadness and desperation to be loose now that she felt a little safe. She wasn’t stuck in hiding any longer, so she didn’t have to keep as quiet as she otherwise might have had to. Surely nobody would try to get her now that she was with someone? Or maybe she was feeling too tired to keep her strong act up any longer.
Her breathing was uneven as she cried, though eventually it would start to calm again. He wasn’t trying to pry her away, and that alone started to foster a sense of hope and trust. Maybe he could help her, where she wasn’t able to really help herself yet. She calmed even more as he rubbed her back, opening her silvery eyes once more. ”Okay...thank you...”
It was not elaborated on for what exactly she was thanking him for, but Holly did feel grateful. Still, in her current situation, it was probably clear that she was thankful for him in general. He was here to help her, instead of leaving her all alone. That in itself was enough to start to give her a sense of safety and calm. She wasn’t alone any longer, and that meant that things were bound to change.
Once the tears started to fall, Holly found that she couldn’t stop them. ”I wanted to try to find them, and n-now...I’m l..lost..” The young girl’s voice was broken up by sobs as she started to cry. All she wanted was her family back. The smell of cinnamon rolls and pancakes filling the air as her mother cooked breakfast, the sounds of her dad whittling a chunk of wood into a figurine. Holly wanted more than anything for things to be okay again, but deep down some part of her knew it wasn’t going to be that way. She just couldn’t bring herself to accept that she was alone now.
The lunch kit fell from her fingers as she brought her hands up to her face, trying in vain to wipe away the tears that were still dripping freely down her face. Her lips trembled as she whimpered, the events of the last few weeks finally catching up to her full force. She should have just stayed at home and been safe, but she had been holding put hope that she could change the situation herself. A belief that maybe, she could be a hero like in all the fairytales and save herself. Yet, she hadn’t been able to achieve that. Maybe one day she would be able to.
Stranger or not, in her current state Holly needed comfort. Perhaps some part of her knew that he meant no harm, or maybe it could be chalked down to the optimistic tint she viewed the world through. She darted towards the stranger at that moment, her steps heavy and loud but quick. If he allowed it, she would hold herself against him and cling to his clothes, crying more freely. She didn’t want to be alone anymore. ”I’m s..sad. Scared. I miss them..” Her voice broke and she was shivering with the force of her sobs. Maybe things would look better one day, but for now she just needed someone to take care of her.
