Welcome to The Duality of Man, an original animanga role-play that features numerous supernatural creatures. Unfortunately, these various species have distanced themselves because of the war that occurred thousands of years ago, plaguing some with eyes that only see their dualism. While others meddle themself with their differences, two groups fight, each attempting to eliminate the other in for their definition of worldly peace. These two groups of the Terror Response Syndicate (TRS) and the Assembly of Phantoms (AP). With individuals fighting merely over their differences, it brings uncertainty to the outcome of this war.
We happily accept all role-players as long as they obey the rules and are capable of meeting our word count of 50. This does include those who are unfamiliar with this style of role-playing. The staff of The Duality of Man are willing to happily help those who are new to the role-playing world so they feel comfortable on site. Feel free to message the staff if you need help, they can be found here or in the site Discord and will gladly answer questions alongside calm concerns. If you have any suggestions we would love to hear them; guests may use the support board as a suggestion area as well. Heat has broken through into a glorious summer. The snow has entirely dried through the spring, leaving to the brilliance of the warmer months. Terror activity has risen as people are brought out of their homes, leaving the TRS in a position of consistent work. Each are attempting to maintain victory in the endless struggle for power.

Momentarily, there was uncertainty after Nathan disturbed the girl who appeared roughly his age. Although it was always difficult to discover an individual's age's off of sheer looks considering there were species who ceased aging; himself serving as an example. As he arrived, it appeared the stranger was about to sip her coffee, but was interrupted from the action due to his question. A slight nod alongside a friendly toned voice that matched his own friendliness served as the vampire's response from the stranger. The lip-tight smile on his lips broadened, making the glinting fangs below more apparent; revealing them a majority of the time had long turned to habit. For a few years Nathan had grown the habit, finding it a suitable way to push anybody away who sought his friendship. The attempt was successful considering as time grew on, the people grew fewer.
The green haired man slid into the seat across from the dark haired girl, the mug being set to his right. No time was taken on a thanks, doing that would seemingly make the situation too friendly. A few small moments were spent getting comfortable, but once successful one of the boy's pale hands grabbed the ceramic cup's handle. It was drawn to his lips, a second of hesitation was taken before Nathan took a small sip of the bitter liquid. The vampire preferred to avoid any incidents that involved burning, it was one of the few precautions the green haired man took in life. Once the coffee was tested and there was assurance his tongue would not receive a nasty surprise, he sipped more. Afterwards, his green eyes returned to the stranger across the table, scanning over her facial features. The mid-length dark hair bearing on onyx hue that framed her face, the chestnut coloured eyes and the general contours of her face. In Nathan's mind it a merely another face in the crowd that was merely given time in order for future recognition.
Later his eyes adverted as Nathan placed the cup in front of him, staring into the swirling black liquid and enjoying the fragrance that swirled in the slight steam. For a moment, he focused on the chatter in the room in mild curiosity over what was occurring in the city of Lorsette, that was until his company spoke. An attempt of idle conversation, possibility to create a familiarity between them. Honestly, the vampire had been praying the stranger would remain silent, but naturally prayers were not always answered. While she spoke, his gaze returned to her alongside his attention which was waning as she spoke about hazel-glazed doughnuts. Admittedly, Nathan had never truly been a major fan of sweets unless they were the homemade recipes that involved adding a bit of blood to a mix. As a vampire, the green haired man found it delectable while others may believe it to be rather disgusting.
The question was answered with a shrug. "Not really, just got bored I suppose. Wasn't much for me to do," he answered simply. A mild tone of annoyance entered his voice, which was somewhat unintentional. "Perhaps I will try one then sometime," Nathan responded with a yawn following.
Soon his elbow propped on the table, Nathan's head resting in his open left hand while the right's fingers gently drummed the table's wooden surface. A subtle noise, rhythmic in a way, was made when his nails collided with the wood. Finger drumming was simply a force of habit at times since the sound seemed oddly comforting. There was also a conversation that this stranger seemed determine to create with him. The reasoning behind it was uncertain, but the vampire could tell that he would have to endure every word of it until he left the table. That was, unless he discovered a way to keep her quiet. Unfortunately, his conscious nagged at him, insisting that since this female stranger was polite enough to allow him to sit with her, the least Nathan could do was hold a conversation. Only a few moments were spent in quiet until his fellow table occupant began to speak again, providing her name, which was Caelumina or Cae for short. A slight laugh escaped her lips afterwards, giving her a more lighthearted look.
Keeping a plastic smile upon his face, Nathan replied. "Name's Nathan, or if you're the professional sort, Nathaniel."
There was a lacking of genuine friendliness to his words, years of pushing people away making simple vocal traits difficult to mimic at times. This caused his attempt to be meager, containing a hollowness that was rather noticeable. For a moment he pined for the moments where he could at least properly maintain a mask of social adequacy, but that was long dropped for the present. Acting like a sadistic maniac to a majority of people sparked fear, made them unlikely to consort with him unless of the utmost necessity. A lonesomeness came with it, but it was welcomed by Nathan since it was worth the price; it was a shield from future loss. Nathan noticed how the girl's smile widened, which surprised him, has his pathetic attempt of fake friendliness worked? That was when he heard the sigh that escaped her lips after the chortles, which the green haired man presumed was created due to his horrible attempt at being ample company. However, with that came a chance to poke at the stranger which was taken.
"What? Don't like your company?" Nathan said, a chuckle to his voice and a toothy grin on his face.
Placing people in awkward situations seemed amusing to the green eyed teen, it was displayed on his face. The manner of which he grinned, the entertained glint in his eyes and the fact that his fingers ceased their drumming instantly. The reaction was what he craved, a remote curiosity playing across his face as the vampire's eyes remained trained on Caelumina.
Avoidance and general lack of social interaction had transform into a natural piece of Nathan's life, obvious by the reactions of those he passed. Although not necessarily famous around Lorsette, there were always the few people whose eyes would glimmer with recognition. Those few simply left him plenty of room to pass, some going lengths to drag passing civilians away to utter a swift whisper inaudible to the green-haired boy's ears. Alas, Nathan was unperturbed by the entire scene, it merely meant fewer people to disturb his lonesome little world. A sanction from the concept of loss; the sorrow of losing someone precious. Thus the young man merely kept walking with his hands hidden in the pockets of his coat.
Currently, Nathan wore a plain black t-shirt, arms protected from the slight bite of cold by the green camouflage jacket he wore. The front of the coat remained zipped open, allowing the minor breeze to flow comfortably around his torso. Meanwhile, the silver dog tags bumped against his chest and sometimes cause the sunlight which caused them to glint. They jingled gentle, nothing particularly noticeable unless moved significantly. As of trousers, they were meager black sweats thrown on in a moment of laziness and lack of care. An act of which his parents would have disapproved of considerably, causing Nathan to be drawn to the concept. A pair of heavy brown boots served as footwear, their laces pulled tight and double knotted to assure the long strings would not untie in travel. The usual black fingerless gloves adorned his hands, an accessory that made the young man feel tougher. There was an especially pale sheen to his complexion, a result of having to practically bathe in sunscreen; one of the woes of being a vampire.
As Nathan continued down the sidewalk, a boredom began to brew in the depths of his mind. It was the bane of a lonesome world, a lack of friends and activities to participate in. These moments always brought forth an intense feeling of lonely, to the point of mild sadness. This mild gnawing of sorrow, it compared nothing to loss; it was akin to a mere mosquito bite in the face of a brutal mauling. Either way, the green eyed man needed to discover something the fend off the boredom that plagued him. The area was surveyed, several titles of places that lacked interest were noticed. A few more titles, then finally the man's yellow-green eyes landed on the sign of a location. The Crescent Moon Cafe, a place renown for its baked goods alongside brews of coffee. A toothy grin drew onto Nathan's face, his fangs becoming noticeable as his lips drew away; almost as though his fangs were actors on a curtained stage.
An inspection was made of his pockets, a search to confirm whether or not the young man had some money within his current possession. The phone was discovered initially, tucked away safely within the depths, a little more searching and he felt the crisp touch of paper. With that revelation made, Nathan pushed through the wooden doors, eyes gazing through the crystal clean glass windows. A bell rung above him, a telltale sign of a new presence entering the walls of the establishment almost like a warning sign for further attention. Patrons aplenty occupied the inside of the cafe, littering the main room most of which sat at the various dark wooden tables. The scent of fresh cooking and the distinct aroma of coffee swirled around the room, confined to the walls. It was alluring, drawing the green-haired boy further into the depths of the establish. A subtle glimmer of joy came across his yellow-green eyes, but faded quickly.
The counter was approached and coffee was purchased, the individual behind the counter handing it shyly over. Black liquid swirled in the cup, steam gently rising from the cup. Warmth radiated from the ceramic mug, a pleasant touch to Nathan's cold fingers. It brought back memories of winter ways spent in front of a fireplace where Donovan and him would sip hot chocolate while Teresa drank black coffee. Stories were told, the night spent in peaceful bliss when the two boys would gather around the elderly woman and beg for more. She would obliged until eventually the evening grew late and the young children were shipped off to bed for sleep. Not long after the minor dwelling did Nathan pushed the memories away since nowadays they carried a more sorrowful tone instead of the former happy ones. Instead of pondering further and holding up the small line, the green haired boy walked away to gaze upon the tables. It was a search for an opening, but alas most seemed full of chattering occupants who would easily frown upon a newcomer.
An inaudible, annoyed sigh escaped Nathan's lips, his gazing searching further until resting on a dark haired girl with a red scarf. She sat alone, perhaps raveled in thought or something else. Either way, there was an opening at her table and she lacking any chattering company. Perhaps she would not mind if he joined her? Slowly, the vampire approached the table with his eyes watching the girl who currently occupied it. Nathan cleared his throat to gain her attention. A lip tight grin decorated his face, the edges of his fangs poking out beneath his upper lip.
"You mind if I join ya?" He asked, tone carrying a slight friendliness; scaring her might cause her to refuse him a seat.
When it comes to Nathan, he is rather average as of body type. He’s roughly average height at 5’9” and is not overly muscular nor completely lacking. Usually, Nathan does not tend to attempt to build up his muscle mass; why should he when being a vampire gives him super strength? Thus, he remains rather slender and even somewhat lithe when it comes to his overall body type. Akin to a majority of vampires, Nathan keeps a pale skin complexion and oftentimes shies away from being out in the sunlight. There are no blemishes or scars that can be found on Nathan’s skin. Although, it is not uncommon to find Nathan with minor cuts or covered in dirt from time to time.
As of hair, Nathan’s is a shade of green and is rather straight, although it has been known for being rather messy at times. Rarely will this vampire put effort into making certain his hair is going to stay neat since he simply does not understand why it is a necessity. Will this change? Probably not due to his parent’s hatred of his unkempt hair. Similar to his hair, Nathan’s eyes are a shade of green, however, they are slightly brighter than his hair. There is a slight hint of yellow in his bright green eyes which is usually noticeable in certain lighting or when somebody is up close. Like most vampires, Nathan does have fangs which he does tend to reveal even when it is not necessary.
Usually, Nathan will be dressed in greens and blacks or he will be wearing his TRS uniform. There is one definitive pair of accessories that Nathan is renown for wearing no matter the circumstances. This consists of a silver chain with a pair of dog tags that belong to his brother (obvious by the names on them) and a pair of black fingerless gloves.
personality
An initial interaction with Nathan oftentimes results in him revealing his negative traits, especially since he is keen on pushing everybody away. This often means he will make threats, displaying his sadistic mind despite the fact that he would harm a human being unless it was self-defense or they sided with Zeredah. Sometimes he will even go the length of bringing his knife out and waving it at another person who is considered an ally. He openly admits his cynicism, constantly stating that people only care about themselves and are only motivated by their own interests. This is much similar to him since he only cares about his goals as a hunter. Any opportunity that can be taken to inflict damage on a terror or to push somebody away will be taken by Nathan, he simply does want anything to do with people nowadays. Furthermore he tends to be irritable, especially when a terror escapes. This causes him to yell or even act out by throwing things, this can result in his fellow hunters getting injured. Although, the injuries are oftentimes minor and Nathan does give a poor apology afterwards. Stating things bluntly is something that Nathan has made a habit of since it is another way to get people to leave him alone. This has caused Nathan to bluntly state more fatalistic beliefs, which oftentimes cause people to be afraid. Easy to say, Nathan enjoys scaring people because it keeps them away.
Some of his other negative traits also consists of his vindictiveness. Considering Nathan has worked increasingly hard to become a hunter in order to get revenge for his brother and nanny, it has made this rather obvious. However, he also feels the need to get revenge on just about anybody who wrongs him or those few people who do manage to get close. He’s also arrogant and has far too high of confidence in his own skills. Nathan simply thinks he can do anything, even without the training to. This can cause Nathan to make careless mistakes at times due to his high faith in his own skills. On a lighter note, Nathan is very heroic and despite not knowing somebody will protect them even if it means risking his own life. This has caused him to gain a steely determination to the point where people question if Nathan even knows what the words ‘give up’ mean. Furthermore, Nathan is a stubborn sort and is not one to give in no matter the situation or his own lacking in knowledge. However, this does have the fault of making him reckless due to the fact that he will do anything no matter the danger if it means keeping somebody safe. This is especially if they are somebody important to Nathan.
Anybody who gets close to Nathan tends to notice that he can be rather protective of people. Despite being sadistic, he does not enjoy seeing people get hurt or killed; mostly because he can sympathize with them. When it comes to positive traits, Nathan is a surprisingly loyal person to those who get close and his fellow TRS workers. He’s hard-working and capable allowing him to oftentimes handle a situation despite his young age. Being clever also helps him be highly capable on the battlefield alongside resourceful. The point is, Nathan is quite a bit smarter than he may let on at first. This has allowed him to become a person that people can rely on with little worry, that’s if they know him well enough that his sadistic attitude does not bother them. Nathan is also very independent, his capableness also allowing him to easily take care of himself in and off of the battlefield. Surprisingly, he is also rather adventurous and enjoys seeing new things or simply learning a new skill.
If one does manage to get close, it is good to note that Nathan will likely remain tight-lipped about his past. That is the main topic he is rather confidential in, although, oftentimes it is improbable he will share anything about himself. Even though at times Nathan can be outspoken, he does keep a majority of his life a secret since thoughts about Teresa or Donovan can upset him. Those who get close will find that Nathan is ambitious and will oftentimes be trying to hone in on his skills in order to become an elite hunter like his older brother. They will also find that he can be rather sarcastic, sometimes towards himself or towards others.
abilities
Blood Manipulation --- Advanced Control Most of Nathan’s strength lies with his ability to control blood. He’s fairly capable, even to the length of being able to make his own blood into solid objects for a period of time. This allows him to control mass quantities of his blood at once and even do more complex things. However, Nathan’s weak point is that due to doing this constantly, it can make him light headed at times. There is also the fact that as Nathan grows tired, his control over blood can weaken to the point where it may not even act.
Enhanced Speed --- Intermediate Control As of Nathan’s control when it comes to his enhanced speed he is fairly average. Although, this is one of his weaker points due to his reckless tendencies. Nathan has been known to run too fast then end up crashing straight into a wall. This ability also enjoys activating if Nathan is feeling full of energy or hyper, almost as though his body is trying to get rid of the excess energy.
Enhanced Strength --- Intermediate Control Once again, Nathan’s control is only about average in this. Oftentimes, his enhanced strength only works in quick bursts, leaving him unable to use it for more than 5 minutes at a time. It has been known to activate randomly when he is angry, thus resulting in people getting hurt at times.
backstory
Trigger Warning: Violence
Born to a family who owned a powerful company, Nathan always got what he wanted at the expense of rarely seeing his parents. His parents were strict people, but due to their lacking in his life Nathan became unfamiliar with their strict protocol. From a young age, he saw his older brother, Donovan and their nanny Teresa as his parental guardians. As far as Nathan was concerned, his parents never truly cared about him. In his mind, it explained their constant absence. He merely accepted the fact that his parents created him, but only mildly cared about him. Meanwhile, Donovan and Teresa were the faces that Nathan came to know and love. They were concerned when he grew ill or gotten himself injured.
By 6 years his brother was older, oftentimes making him the boss when Teresa was busy. Nathan’s intense kinship with Donovan made him unbothered by the concept. They were brothers who acted like the best of friends, only getting into fights on rare occasions. Although, in the end they would either apologize or quickly end up acting brotherly again. As years went on, Nathan began to dislike his parents due to their strict attitude and common absences from his life. Rarely would he outright rebel against their demands, but when they were around Nathan would often avoid them to the best of his ability; including when he was a mere child. The mindset behind it was simple, if they were not around to be in his life, why would they want him around when they were home? Thus instead of speaking with his parents when they returned, Nathan would often follow Teresa around who doubled as a maid or his brother if he was not chatting with them.
As years went on, Nathan’s attachment to his nanny and brother increased tenfold since they were the people who took him out on occasion to the usual parental based events. They would also watch him while he played sports meanwhile his parents rarely attended any of his hockey, soccer, lacrosse, badminton or various other sports game. This furthered the distance Nathan felt between himself and his parents since he would always see the other children’s parents there. They would worry over injuries, give them the occasional compliment or pointer and even help in celebration of victories or consolation in the face of defeat. Alas, Nathan found that he only received said treatment from Teresa and Donovan, thus they slowly developed into being parental figures in Nathan’s mind. It did not take long until the young boy viewed his nanny and brother as the most important people in his life.
For about 8 years, everything went on passively with the odd moments of life (like when he was 6 and somehow Donovan managed to convince him to wear a dress). Generally, the trio were happy spending time with each other and Nathan learned a lot from his nanny and brother. For the most part, they were the main reason he became the person he is today. They guided him through his life, teaching him right from wrong. It became increasingly obvious why exactly Nathan felt so attached to them. However, when he became 8 was when Nathan’s parents tried to give him more attention. It was the first time it felt as though they wanted to be involved in his life and Nathan enjoyed the feeling. They would play a few games with him and occasionally take him out. Eventually summer came and the school was having a family picnic like they did every year. For once, Nathan was certain that his friends would be able to meet his parents since they promised. However, things changed and once the wait was done, Nathan found that only Teresa and Donovan had come. His parents had once again prioritized business over him. It had upset Nathan greatly and that was the moment he decided to no longer allow his parents to get close.
When Nathan became 10 he had his first encounter with loss, which was when Teresa died in a terror attack. It hit the boy hard, however, Donovan was there for him and helped him feel better after the occasion. The one thing Nathan remember most was the fact that his parents did not even come home to attend the funeral, stating that they were busy. Another wedge was added between him and his parents, but Nathan grew closer to his brother. A few months later, Nathan’s brother went into training to become a hunter after gaining permission from their parents. A sense of admiration sparked in Nathan when he watched his brother work hard in order to fulfil the task of becoming a hunter. In Nathan’s eyes, his brother was a valiant hero who sought vengeance for the injustice that was Teresa’s death. Thus, oftentimes Nathan would find himself begging his brother to teach him a few things, however, all Donovan would teach him were a few combat techniques. Mostly it consisted of self-defense training and was more of a method to make certain that should Nathan come across a terror, he would at least have something.
For four years it went on like that as Donovan trained his little brother to make certain he could defend himself. As time went on, Nathan saw his older brother as his hero and strived to be a hunter like him. It felt like necessity considering Donovan had done it to protect people like Teresa, Nathan figured he should do the same. However, his parents would simply not allow it, stating that he was only 15 and should not worry about such things yet. Due to this, Nathan only grew more curious about terrors and was craving to see one for himself. Little did he know that this was lead to some very unfortunate events. When Nathan became 16 he began begging Donovan to take him out on a mission with him, stating that he would only watch and promised not to stand too close. Naturally, his brother refused and informed him that it would be far too dangerous for Nathan to come anywhere near a terror until he was hunter. Only a few days after their fight about it did his brother got called on a mission, telling Nathan to stay home, however, the boy did not feel like listening.
Slowly, Nathan followed his brother to where he was going to fight this terror; he simply had to see one. So many reports had been made, the closest he got to seeing one being on TV when they reported the attacks. Curiosity bit at him, and he managed to follow his brother without drawing Donovan’s attention. He missed the beginning on the battle that was occurring an old alleyway, which was where Nathan began smelling the distinct scent of blood. It grew stronger as he approached and when he could view the alleyway, he saw his brother’s teammate sitting against the wall with blood pooled around him. It was obvious he was dead even from the distance Nathan was at. Then there was his brother, fighting the terror all by himself, but he was not the valiant hero who always win. Donovan had obtained numerous wounds and was obviously growing tired with every passing second. In a moment of ignorance, Nathan called to his brother, which got the terror’s attention. The creature figured he was an easier target than the well-trained elite hunter that was Donovan.
The creature came at him, causing Nathan to freeze from the sudden attack that would have killed him if Donovan had not protected him. A stinger that was similar to a scorpions, but much larger stabbed into his brother. That was when Nathan was told to run and when he hesitated, his brother said it louder. Soon enough, the 16-year-old boy was running down the streets with his enhanced speed with tears blurring his eyes. Eventually, he came across a group of hunters on patrol and begged them for help. When they got their, the area was mess and soon it became more of a cleanup, but there was something missing, his brother’s body. They found his dog tags, covered significantly in blood. The hunters took Nathan home, where he immediately ran off to his room crying with the servants wondering what happened. When they were informed, the manor became a very sad place to be. A majority of the time, Nathan was crying in his room stating that it was his fault that Donovan got hurt. A week later, Donovan’s corpse was found in a river which confirmed his death.
In the time, his parents returned home where they found their son barely even noticing them since he was far too busy moping. Nathan’s parents tried to reach out to him, but at every turn their son would push them away. The funeral came and went, Nathan breaking into a sob near the end of it. He felt alone, two of the most important people in his life were gone because of terrors. Not long after the funeral, his parents tried to help, tried to make him feel better, but instead of feeling appreciation Nathan only felt angry. One of the day retaliated telling them how he hated them because they were never there no matter how important he told them the event was. It was flood of pure emotion as he yelled, telling them that if they wanted to be in his life they would have not waited until now. Afterwards, Nathan stormed off to his room, only angry for a moment before beginning to cry over losing his brother. That day, he vowed to never let anybody get close and to get revenge on the creatures that killed Teresa and Donovan.
First, he got a form of permission to enter hunter training and asked his parents to sign it, of which they refused. They stated how they did not want their only remaining son to be killed by terrors as well. Once again they fought, Nathan stating that it did not matter anyways because when he became 18, he would just sign himself up. Thus, when Nathan became 18 he did just that and entered training to become a hunter, the knowledge his brother gave him granted him an edge. He passed with ease and when mentoring started, Nathan wore the dog tags that his brother always wore as memory. Almost as though a mental message of the need to persevere for his brother. Eventually, he began to develop a sadistic tendency towards terrors, going the length to inflict more wounds than necessary before killing them. Soon enough, Nathan began acting in a similar way towards people in order to push them away. He did not want to lose anybody else important to him. Graduation came which made Nathan a full-fledged hunter and it became the start of annihilating the creatures that took the most important people in his life away from him. To him, it was necessity since he could not just standby and have more people get torn down akin to how he was.
