Welcome to The Duality of Man, an original animanga role-play that features numerous supernatural creatures. Unfortunately, these various species have distanced themselves because of the war that occurred thousands of years ago, plaguing some with eyes that only see their dualism. While others meddle themself with their differences, two groups fight, each attempting to eliminate the other in for their definition of worldly peace. These two groups of the Terror Response Syndicate (TRS) and the Assembly of Phantoms (AP). With individuals fighting merely over their differences, it brings uncertainty to the outcome of this war.
We happily accept all role-players as long as they obey the rules and are capable of meeting our word count of 50. This does include those who are unfamiliar with this style of role-playing. The staff of The Duality of Man are willing to happily help those who are new to the role-playing world so they feel comfortable on site. Feel free to message the staff if you need help, they can be found here or in the site Discord and will gladly answer questions alongside calm concerns. If you have any suggestions we would love to hear them; guests may use the support board as a suggestion area as well. Should you decide to join, may I say welcome to the site and we all hope you enjoy your time here.

Summer 2024
Heat has broken through into a glorious summer. The snow has entirely dried through the spring, leaving to the brilliance of the warmer months. Terror activity has risen as people are brought out of their homes, leaving the TRS in a position of consistent work. Each are attempting to maintain victory in the endless struggle for power.
Since the wonderful members of TDOM enjoy the site enough to play around on it, this thread is to assist with the site's tidying! Functionality is important and we want to make the site functional even if its activity will be minimal at best!

"They won't touch you and that's a promise,"[break][break]
His voice drew Alfonse's fearful eyes away from the uncertainty that surrounded the doorway and over to the dirty-blonde. Hearing the sincerity in his tone, his spoken promise to protect him from them.... it filled his anxious chest with a small soothing comfort. A growing warmth that didn't cease the sensation of danger dwelling beyond these walls but made him feel much better. Promises were very valuable and cherished words... and after everything they'd been through together just now, the boy felt he could trust him. He didn't trust his family, but... he felt safe with him. It softened the features of his white and auburn streaked face to be promised protection like that. It meant much more to him than he could express aloud... o-or verbally at all in this physical state of his.[break][break] Alfonse's gaze thoughtfully watched the demon as he cupped his arms, offering to carry him. It was even more reassurance that the blonde's intentions were pure... and trustingly, Alfonse gave a brief bow of his head before his paws quietly brought him up to the other teen's tall stature. He looked up at him, thankfulness expressively showing within his gaze, while mentally and sheepishly preparing to meet with the arms that awaited him. Briskly, the Fox leaped off his paws in a airy sweep up into his embrace, the plush silk of his fur instantly nuzzling against the grove of his arms and soft ears brushing against his neck. While he placed full faith in the boy's protection and promise, h-he was still shy about being carried by him.... his face felt warm underneath his fur barely a moment after he was met with the own warmth of the other boy.

With enthusiasm, Alfonse slightly lifted and individually tapped his front paws while watching the blonde bring himself onto his feet. His gaze was attentive and eager, his tails gently swaying behind him as he excitedly trotted close to the side of the older teen upon joining him at the window. Instead of preparing to take flight through the window he suggested going out through the front door, and Alfonse instantly paused in all movement. Th-through the front door...? Where his parents could be?[break][break] H-he really really wished he could actually speak and tell the boy that he was scared about being seen and caught by them. The amount of trust he had in the boy's family was nonexistent and... a-and, just, why couldn't they fly out the window instead? A soft noise of wariness left Alfonse's rounded muzzle as apprehension mingled with his anxiousness to leave this strange home.... and be with his mom.... wh-who he had a feeling would be very, very mad at him if she finished her meeting with the Councilmen by now and thought he wandered off... but he'd much rather see his angry mom than that scary pale-faced man again.[break][break] The blonde's hand brushed against his fur and Alfonse had no reaction to it since it seemed unintentional... but then the blonde suddenly frowned down at him and started to touch his face. A lot. His large eyes were forced into a narrow from how the teen squished his cheeks and roamed his thumbs all over his face. Wh-what the heck was he doing! Surprised, Alfonse tolerated it only for a second out of the pure shock and confusion of what he was doing before he squirmed to tilt his head head. How embarrassing...a-and he knew he wasn't an animal, and was still doing that![break][break] "You've got butter all over your head,"[break][break] Alfonse eyed the blonde in the same surprise, giving a small shake of his head as a poor attempt of getting his messied fur back in place, before remembrance hit him. Oh.... he was still covered in butter, wasn't he... a deep breath blew through his black nose as Alfonse felt a similar reaction to that inconvenience as the boy's expression on his face showed. His mother truly was going to be upset with him.... disappeared without a trace and covered in butter.... maybe he shouldn't be worrying about it when there was the big predicament of needing to escape, though...[break][break] His excitement had fizzled out with the proposal of venturing through the house to head out, and the whole butter-mess on his head... but the blonde's suggestion of cleaning up in the bathroom added on to more of Alfonse's discouragement. The fox lifted his head as surprise once more hit him, that h-he'd actually suggest washing off. Did they have time for that? D-did they have time for anything else? What if his dad came in again? Ugh, he wished so badly he could speak to him like a normal person.... he felt kind of stuck like this... but as the demon rose his arm, he revealed the cut upon his arm. Alfonse's internal arguments against his idea were met with guilt. The tension in his stature and hesitancy in his gaze that shifted from the demon to the door was evident. He was afraid of going out there... he was scared of what could happen if they saw his family. But.... the boy's cut from when he healed him made him feel selfish not... letting him clean it off first. [break][break] His chest tightened with worry as his eyes deeply shown with the very unsettling paranoia that grasped at him. He hesitantly stepped closer to the demon in reluctance but stopped once more, eyeing the door with his head meekly lowering. He wasn't sure if he could go through with leaving the room and entering the rest of the house, but... he also wanted to stay by the other boy's side, even if that possibly meant.... going out there.
When he looked towards Ivory, he could see her huffing while trying to keep her books secured tightly up against her with each step down the flight of stairs. Her comment about Lorsette being different caught Alfonse in confusion as to what she meant. His eyebrows somewhat lifted in wonderment... though before the teen had an opportunity to put more thought into what she said, the sunlight brightly reflected upon the surface of a sleek black vehicle from the corner of his eye.[break][break] Instantly, he jerked his face to look towards the courtyard's street entrance. Merely by the cleanly, shiny dark exterior and the driver's hasty speeding around a couple stalled vehicles along the sidewalk was he able to identify it as his escort. [break][break]The vehicle slowed once entering a more so pedestrian-risk zone, and Alfonse's face instantly brightened with immense happiness and relief. "Oh, my escort is here...! I have to go now," He sped down the last couple steps before swiftly turning on his feet with a smile upon his face when looking at the two girls, "I'll see you tomorrow, Ivory! It was nice meeting you, um..." His Aquamarine hues gazed at the wild-haired blonde, his smile falling a bit sheepish when realizing they actually didn't exchange names yet. "I-I'm sorry, what's your name? Mine's Alfonse," [break][break]

When he finished what vague description he could articulate through the magic writing, the aura's strength had significantly faded from its original summoned form. Alfonse was on the brink... of feeling completely hopeless about actually being able to find his way back home any time soon. Doubts and fears were circulating through his mind, mingled with uncertainty regarding where they even were right now. This boy could have lived in a whole other town, a-and Alfonse had absolutely no knowledge regarding Lorsette or the Canadian territory it was in... b-but... he still had this boy to help him. It meant that he wasn't alone. He had a companion. He had someone who healed him and saved him, and was even going to help him more. Without the blonde... he would be completely terrified.[break][break]
The Kitsune worriedly faced the blonde. The aura itself had nearly vanished, being nothing but reminiscent sparks of deep purple that dwelt along the paper in shapeless glittering. His tails subtly moved in an anxious mannerism as he watched and observed the demon whom pinched his jawline in thought. His open admittance to being new to Lorsette lifted Alfonse's ears in surprise. It was consoling to hear that they were still in Lorsette but Alfonse was shocked to hear that he was new to the city just like he was. He was both comforted in knowing he wasn't a million miles away from home, but also discouraged that the demon may have known just as much as he did about the city... which was close to nothing. [break][break]
Alfonse's head turned, the bright hues of his eyes following the demon's hand as it went on to gesture towards the window. His gaze roamed from his hand, to his face... seeing a confident smirk that caught the boy's curiosity even more as to what he was thinking. He had a plan.... and Alfonse's whole demeanor perked up when the demon came up with a brilliant idea of flying above Lorsette until he saw his home.[break][break]
Immediately, he pounced up onto all four of his paws with exuberance that defeated his low energy. His multi-tails swept behind him as a spark of genuine eagerness dwelt in his eyes. Clearly, he was more than willing to go with his proposal. 'Yes, flying! Why didn't I think of that?' His thoughts excitedly cheered. They found an exit plan and one that sounded like it could really work! Alfonse gave an approving nod of his head, already bounding over to the window without stalling any more time. His fox form was naturally faster than how he carried himself on his more so human feet and practically in a silent flash, he'd left behind the journal where it'd been of assistance on the floor and was ready to go. He turned to face the demon when right up at its glass exterior, as though beckoning him to lead the way. He placed all his faith on the one glimmer of light he had to getting home safely and his readiness to leave didn't leave room for hesitancy. Or to place deeper thought on what could go wrong.

A sigh left the dirty blonde before he continued on to apologize for his parents. Alfonse's gaze remained upon the demon, the own expression in his eyes filling with a deep sadness at the mentioning of them. He didn't know if both the boy's parents were behind his abduction... n-nor was he unafraid to learn more about them... but when the demon apologized for their actions, he felt a sympathetic concern for the other boy. They were his family. This was his home... they way he described them as being unstable made him wonder if the blonde may have not been in a safe environment himself. [break][break] It made his stomach feel sick again. Alfonse's summoned magic dimmed at the intensifying of his own emotions distractedly beginning to halt his focus. When the boy expressed a willingness to help him get home, the heaviness temporarily lessened as his gaze shown with a thankfulness for him. There was another issue presented, however... he didn't have an address to provide. His head thoughtfully turned away, a paw nervously fidgeting underneath the tails that once more wove their plush fur around him. He tried to think.... tried to remember.... and his ears dropped back in discouragement after a pause. He looked down at the notebook to continue his means of answering, seeing that the demon was helping keeping the notebook open for him. He was truly lucky that this boy wasn't alike with his parents.[break][break]
"I don't remember,"[break][break]
The woven shimmer of magic spelled it out on the paper, Alfonse's gloomy expression steadily focusing on the paper as the letters deconstructed once the other boy read them. He closed his eyes tightly, trying to think... think, think... th-there had to be something else he could share that could help them. H-he barely lived in their home for a few days.... but he explored beyond the walls before-- oh! That's right, there were the brick walls! His eyes opened wide with the lifeline he had to work with.[break][break]
"It's in the forests by a beach,"[break][break]
The purple aura was beginning to appear more see-through than before and Alfonse, fretfully, tried to get the words out as quickly as possible. He gave a quick peek to ensure the boy saw, turning his head to briefly glimpse his way, before continuing to share what details he could muster. [break][break][break]
"There's fruit trees, flowers and big brick walls," [break][break]

The aura kept hold of its written shape, dwelling on the last few words upon Alfonse's own determined focus. He wanted-- desperately hoped-- something like this would enable a more clear form of communication between him and the demon. He didn't like being... unable to speak with him at all.... a-and he didn't want to be left all alone without knowing when the guy would come back and knowing that man who captured him was around. It didn't help that he had no idea... where he even was. A-and he just moved to this place! Th-this was all too scary... and there was no way he wasn't going to try doing more before possibly being left by himself.[break][break] A scoff sounded beside him and Alfonse's muzzle immediately arose higher to have a clear look at his face. Hope but the very same anxious desperation gripping at his heart swam expressively in his face as he attentively listened for his answer. The demon's words were understanding of his predicament.... and Alfonse was subtly relieved that the demon revealed he was aware that he wasn't an animal. Once more, he was met with a rush of gratitude that the other blonde's stance with helping him hadn't diminished upon discovering he was more human. He wasn't willing to take a chance with anyone else of the household finding that out.[break][break] His uncertainty with the other boy seemed to ease upon his response and immediately, Alfonse refocused on the opened notebook. The whirling of magic once more begun to separate from its singular shape, formulating letters gradually alongside the lined paper. He didn't want to lose the fragile magic while he had it at his beckoning... he had to be straight-forward, and clear without dwelling on the eloquence of its writing. The shimmering magic warped and mingled as the letters gradually collected on the paper, much like before.[break][break]
"I want to go home. Please help me?"[break][break]
He looked up from the paper, Aquamarine hues seeking the boy's expression and once more hoping his luck hadn't run out. His stomach felt heavy with knowing how much trouble he could still be in. How could someone help him if he didn't even know anything about Lorsette? Or the forests that his family had nestled themselves so far into? What if he'd been taken even farther away than he could have imagined?

Aquamarine hued eyes slowly uplifted, his head remaining lowered in his bow before the demon who'd been his savior. Conflicting with his graceful demeanor was the meek nervousness and worry dwelling within his eyes that rose to hesitantly meet with the blonde's stature... to see his reaction... h-his heart raced so fast it almost pained his chest. The demon's expression was one that he couldn't decipher well enough to bring him any ease from such a vulnerable reveal. His words instilled immense sheepishness that had he not been in his full Fox shapeshift, the embarrassed heat in his face would have flushed his cheeks red. A-a charming animal...? That.... th-that really wasn't who he was.... [break][break]
However, Alfonse sensed a slight mask concealing the demon's tone. Something sounded and felt not quite as it seemed with his statement... b-but the young Kitsune didn't dare risk pushing past a limit of his physical form that he was already frightened of being compromised. He rose his shoulders, bringing his chest and the rest of his upper body upwards as he left his bow and entered a tall sitting position before the young man. His twinned tails swept around him, their thick silky fur appearing much like a long boa that wrapped in front of his paws. Alfonse's heart continued beating in a fury of anxious emotions surrounding their whole meeting and the events that lead up to it.... and he felt very grateful that the blonde's reaction to seeing he wasn't a forest fox followed the kindness of his previous actions. The boy didn't turn on him nor did he express a change of heart. [break][break]
Alfonse remained sitting, humane eyes observing the dirty blonde as he rose onto his feet. Curiosity reflected within his expression.... brightening in visible surprise when being told he had the freedom to either leave on his own or wait to be lead back where he'd last been. If only he could express to him... how much he was thankful and relieved for everything he was doing for him. H-he couldn't.... he couldn't transform into a 'human' right in front of him. That was too vulnerable... a-and too scary, and risky! Even with how much he'd been helped, Alfonse didn't forget how the man who captured him to begin with was just somewhere beyond the bedroom's door and that there was another man with him. [break][break]
Being lead back to where he was before being kidnapped... was what Alfonse's heart immediately felt the most relief in doing. He would have the protection of another person around him. However.... h-he was gravely concerned that he didn't even remember where he was. If he had chalk... he could draw a hexing portal to get back home. His gut turned when seeing the demon turn towards the doorway, clearly with the intentions of leaving. It forced Alfonse's to think faster on the spot, and to rise onto all four paws. [break][break]
In a silent and swift movement, he leaped around and in front of the demon to block his way. Fretful eyes gazed at the demon, internally panicking to grasp at how to communicate with him... and it was then when he caught sight of a desk residing nearby. Car toy models in protective clear cases, mechanic tools.... it took a couple quick glances to come across a notebook within visible reach resting upon the desk's exterior that appeared more like a workshop's station than a student's study area. A subtle glow of purple aura spurred beneath his front paws, growing larger as it begun to whirl around his wrists. Once it manifested enough magic, one of the purple swirls arose from his paw and glided towards the desk. [break][break]
He wasn't composed enough to be careful and was, instead, hasty to send the boy a message. Thus, the purple shimmering aura ended up lifting and shakily carrying a black worn textbook from the visible surface of the desk. It wobbled heavily while levitating towards them but Alfonse didn't wait for it to reach where he'd stood. He zipped away from the blonde once more, meeting the book half-way and catching it in his mouth. In a flash he was by the boy's side once more, dropping the notebook in front of him. It fell wide-open, scruffy and used pages fluttering before reaching a blank striped sheet. Determination filled him as Alfonse placed focus in the purple aura not to fizzle on him.... both ringlets of purple aura no longer circled around him, and instead shifted and sparked as they begun streaking the pages as though trying to formulate letters...[break][break]
The writing faded in and out, and Alfonse's ears worriedly folded as he internally fought to push the limits of his exhaustion to make some form of sense... o-of what he was trying to say. [break][break]
"I don't know how to find my way back there,"[break][break]
The first few letters already begun to entirely vanish before he'd finished, and anxiously, Alfonse lifted his head to briefly look at the demon... his heart squeezing in desperation as he lowered his gaze back at the paper. The magic-infused writing struggled to keep it's form, shimmering but nonetheless working well enough with Alfonse's adamant focus to show another set of wobbling letters. [break][break]
Alfonse offered her a light smile when Ivory stepped forward and collected the books he gathered up. Once the textbooks were no longer entrusted within his own arms he was able to allow them to relax by his sides at the same time the demon provided a straight-forward response that offered nothing to work from conversation-wise. A simple "nah" was all that was said and the awkwardness Alfonse felt.... lingered. It didn't lessen whatsoever. His Aquamarine gaze briefly met with the blonde's after she'd spoken. For a second he thought one of the two girls were going to mention what they're relation was but nothing else was elaborated. H-he felt even more uncomfortable than before... it caused his gaze to avert away from her with a quiet answer of, "Oh," [break][break] His smile became softer and more sincere when Ivory thanked him. These two... gave off a very different impression than the other. Within a matter of a couple minutes they exhibited stark differences between each other and their temperaments. From what he already had seen between the two of them, he didn't have a strong feeling that they got along well... it partially was what led him to wonder if they may have been related, such as them being sisters. Siblings acted standoffish with each other, didn't they? He wouldn't really know from personal experience, but he'd seen how some brothers and sisters acted with each other.... [break][break] As the three continued down the stairway together, he felt his stomach becoming more uneasy and anxious about getting home. Cautiously, Alfonse's gaze scanned over the vehicles parked in the nearby lot and those that were waiting near the front courtyard, hoping to see his own transportation. The fabric of his cloak gently swayed behind him as he continued downward with the two girls, and upon the demon's question, his gaze continued seeking out the vehicle. He assumed the question was for Ivory since the two were... somehow affiliated, and didn't catch the full context of the question. When Ivory didn't speak up, however, Alfonse's eyes were brought back to them. "It was all right," He answered truthfully but vaguely. His smile turned sheepish and his shoulders initiated a slight shrug, "Alchemy was the most fun. Ivory and I are going to work on a potion together," He added with a growing optimism in his face, glancing over to the young girl.
Preston firstly mentioned a man named Mr. Henderson, whom taught math at the institution. Mathematics weren't a favorite subject of Alfonse, but he was fortunate enough to perform well in the subject despite his interests wandering more so into dreamier realms of thoughts. He was, also, guilty of daydreaming far more than he should. Something that unbeknownst to him, a regular school environment such as Lorsette High may bring about far more easily when sitting at desks all day. [break][break] Due to a lack of a structured and fairly average academic environment, Alfonse's primary focus did more so reside in combat, magic, species-related training, and learning of differentiating cultures and leadership. His parents' decision to have him attend a public school still didn't excite him at all but they remained firm it was important for him to be well-rounded. [break][break] Nervousness and uncertainty regarding being a student here still consumed Alfonse but admittedly, Preston's presence made him feel a little better. Especially right now... when the blonde had been the only student who didn't make him feel really out of place and... w-well, weird. He wondered what a classroom would be like here and if there would be other nice students like Preston, or if everyone would act like how they did in the Library. Good Heavens, he hoped not the latter...[break][break] The two young teens reached a stairwell that led to an upper level of the school when Preston asked him about the teachers Alfonse had before. The question was one that brought another sheepish but friendly smile to his soft features, lighting up his face. The very reminder of his previous teachers was one that ignited a warmth of reminiscing and pride from his previous journeys with them. He had been taught by teachers in a group of youth with magical abilities but had also been taught one-on-one, too, and it was his private mentors that made him absolutely love learning. Using portals to travel to different places, practicing in old temples and just... all kinds of really cool different places was a big highlight for him.[break][break] Reflecting on it also brought a slight nostalgia, though. Ever since he woke up from his coma.... his parents and their clan superiors had been much stricter and sheltering of him. An enclosed and more so protected building like Lorsette High was the most that they seemed willing to let him be part of for his learning experience. However such nostalgia wasn't enough to damp his moods or show in the lively gleam in his eyes. [break][break]
"I had all kinds of teachers," He answered, voice uplifting in an cheerful pride whilst still keeping its soft tone. Trailing behind the two boys was none other than Ezriel whom was like a distant but still strongly-present towering shadow. "Priscilla Kong was my Healing and Natural Medicine teacher, and then Master Leon taught me everything I know about my abilities. They were both my most recent mentors," With a slight skip in his step up the stairs the boy excitedly went on to add, "When I was learning with other kids my age, I had a History and Combat teacher, too! Combat was fun but kind of scary.... some students were a lot bigger than me," A small, nervous laugh left him at the thought of some of the older kids from the clan's territory camp set up in the Northern Highlands. A lot of them were strongly-built, as though trained for a battle field. [break][break]
"U-Um, I think I had others but I can't remember them as well..." Alfonse then admitted after trying to recall more of what he had last been up to before everything became a fog in his mind... the long sleep he had been under rendered him unable to remember anything near the time-frame it'd happened. He tried.... but.... he didn't have any luck. It was like his mind hit invisible walls every time he tried or felt very heavy.
When he'd glimpsed towards the doorway of the library, Alfonse saw a few moments later how some spots seemed to free up around the tables in a mannerism that indicated some students were trying to make room for Preston and him to sit down... o-or maybe he was just... putting way too much cautious observation into this. [break][break]
The deep Aquamarine hues of his eyes sustained their shy glimmer as they wavered away from the doorway to look back in Preston's direction. The only boy whom presented any form of ease to look at in this whole room. The feeling of gratitude of not being alone in an environment such as this, where he was unfamiliar to everything and having what felt like the whole world's attention on him, didn't once cease. [break][break]
The blonde nodded after he'd spoken and looked ever so calm, just like he was minutes ago. With a gesture and beginning steps towards the exit, Alfonse recognized Preston's intentions and resumed following him. He listened as Preston explained that he needed to find his classroom first, and speak with his teacher, passing by the athletic looking fellow whom had held an aura around him that Alfonse felt.... oddly unsettled by, without much warranty for it that Alfonse could understand. He didn't look scary but his energy was one that he picked up on... there was something about it that didn't sit well with him. His eyes kept focused up ahead with particular resistance of glancing his direction, speeding up with a slight hop in his step to remain right by Preston's side. [break][break]
Dark brown eyes from the dusty blonde athlete's demeanor followed them, before simply focusing down towards an open textbook. When Preston and Alfonse reached the doorway, a sudden strong and muscular arm sheathed by form-fitting clothing extended over the boys' heads and strongly pushed the door open in an abruptly unpredictable notion. The movement startled Alfonse, whom let out a spooked gasp as he spun around on his heels to face.... none other than Ezriel, standing behind them as though he'd secretly been present the whole time. "Leaving so soon?" The man asked in a steely cool voice. A shaking sigh left Alfonse as he placed a hand over his heart, visibly caught by surprise. That guy was going to give him a heart attack someday with his ninja-like disappearing and reappearing acts. "O-oh, jeez, Ezriel... " He quietly stammered out before stepping out into the hallway, "Preston is going to show me where his classroom is," [break][break]
Trying to regather himself, Alfonse smiled at the blonde in the similarly gentle and innocent nature that surrounded him, "Who is your teacher?" He had a number of teachers and masters in the past, and he was very curious what specialties Preston's teacher excelled in.
An unease filled the blonde's expression and Alfonse had, subconsciously, been tempted to glimpse in the direction of which the other boy's gaze befell. When doing so... Alfonse noticed right away the very change of some of the table chairs, as though some students had repositioned themselves in their direction. His Aquamarine hues brightened in nervousness and surprise when seeing h-how interested a number of a students were in having some kind of interaction with them... his stomach churned, and his chest squeezed. [break][break]
H-he didn't want to be stared at.... but... his dad always had to go about things his way. Why couldn't their guards have been spying from a distance, o-or made not so noticeable!? Such thoughts quickly infiltrated his mind, but were as quick to flash away from him as he turned his face to once more look at Preston, trying not to pay too much attention to those who were clearly... paying a lot of attention to them. He quietly cleared his throat to rid of the building knotted tension inside of it, attempting to hold his head high as his mother always advised him to do and not seem... afraid. [break][break]
He wanted to be composed... level-headed, brave like Preston was being. The blonde spoke aloud his idea of finding an empty classroom upstairs and Alfonse's eyes expressively shown with relief and approval. Thank goodness there was a chance of finding somewhere private! No staring, just the two of them. And... probably Ezriel. That filled him with hope, and he offered a complying and optimistic smile along with a small nod to all that the boy suggested. He had no qualms about any of it and was grateful to have been paired up with someone who was as calm and bright-minded as Preston. [break][break]
Upon Preston's question of where his bodyguard may have went off to, Alfonse's gaze drew away from him and attempted to scan over the expanse of the Library from where they stood... and trying to avoid making eye contact with any onlookers. Thoughtfulness captured within his face. "I'm not certain..." He admitted after a moment, his face heating once accidentally making eye-contact with a broad-built teen whom had sitting in his chair, facing the back-seat of it, with arms folded over the chair's framing. Alfonse's eyes immediately averted away and he turned himself to face Preston with a small, sheepish smile. "Ezriel is usually very quiet, and sneaky. A lot of the time, when he's around, I don't even realize it...." He admitted, "He will likely just follow us when he sees us leaving. I-It should be fine for us to, um..." Shyly, Alfonse's somewhat glimpsed towards the door while trying to avoid that jock who was eyeing them down, "Head where you'd like to next,"
As Preston spoke, he didn't seem in the least impacted by the eyes and whispers that followed them through the Library... his words matched the reserved, if not stoic demeanor of his face. Alfonse hadn't moments ago been able to look him directly in the face due to his own guilt and anxiousness surrounding the environment but when hearing what he had to say, some of his anxiety was eased over enough for him to do so. [break][break]
Aquamarine youthful eyes uplifted to gaze towards the blonde as they walked. He could only see him well enough from the side due to their alignment while walking... but nonetheless he could interpret the desensitization of their attention... and wished he could feel the same way. [break][break]
There was a moment of curious thoughtfulness that shown in the gleam of his Aquamarine hues. He wasn't comforted so easily.... but he, in a way, found some minor solace in knowing that.... e-even if he may have been an unexpected burden on the other boy, it hadn't been directed towards he himself nor the attention received by their similar aged peers. Hearing that Preston had, too, experienced such a similar occurrence when he was a new student... did make Alfonse feel better, sharing that similarity with the boy. He wished almost as badly as he hadn't wanted to attend Lorsette High to begin with, that he would grow to be strong like Preston in regards to receiving such pondering eyes from others. [break][break]
When they reached the Library desk, a soft and small smile touched Alfonse's lips as a gesture of well-meaning greeting to the Librarian but the boy proceeded to keep to himself and allow for Preston to take the lead. His eyes lowered towards the desk with no particular intentions, shyness shrouding him as his hands remained lowered and clasped with the fine material of his cloak sleeves nearly covering them. The sound of clicking was enhanced from the quiet Library's atmosphere... it nearly tickled his ears, unsettling him with every continuous click. A quiet breath exhaled through his nose as Alfonse awaited patiently and when Preston retrieved the book from the Librarian, she turned away from them. [break][break]
Alfonse then lifted his head to look at Preston. "U-Um, shall we find somewhere peaceful to sit?" He asked him with another shy smile crossing his features. The idea of sitting around the tables where most of the students seemed to reside greatly unsettled him. He'd rather find somewhere where only the comforting smell of pages, whether new or worn, arose without the hindrance of.... 'people smells'. That is, if they were to stay here. It was possible Preston intended on moving onward. The boy wondered more about Preston's experiences as a new student at the high school but didn't want to pry... m-maybe he'd ask when the timing felt appropriate.

From where he'd stopped in his steps, Alfonse's gaze weighed upon the demon... observing him, studying him, and attempting to sort through his wary thoughts. The tension in the boy's face with his eyes closed caught his attention... and guilt more strongly accompanied his uneasy stomach. He wished... there was something he could do to pay him back. For his sacrifice, and for saving his declining health. Th-there was... in a way... something he could do but not in the form he was in... a-and however guilty and curious he may have felt towards the unlikely potential ally he'd met, Alfonse couldn't risk his identity. The boy may have not been a danger but... the same couldn't be said about the other men in the household. [break][break]
Upon the demon opening his eyes, his brown gaze befell him. Immediately Alfonse felt another tension within his frame from the sudden eye-contact, finding himself nervously tilting his head to look off towards a different side of the room. Without moving his head, Aquamarine eyes reverted to gaze back upon him, seeing a relaxed smile that matched a gentle tone of voice... one that felt as though it were attempting to comfort him. It worked a little, easing over him enough to turn his head to once more turn his head towards the demon. His compliment of his paws caused for Alfonse's gaze to shyly lower away as he self-consciously rose a front paw mid-way from the ground. The word lingered on his mind... making him feel increasingly bashful. 'Pretty'...[break][break]
Red fur framed the paw he'd lifted. Seeing it... made the word lose its effect. A soft exhale left his nose as Alfonse sat himself up-right, using the same paw to hook itself through the necklace's chain and tug its charm forward to look at for himself. Within its charm was nothing of particular beauty... a sign of ownership more so than true jewelry, as the designs along its trim were intricate enough only to establish some value. Its small size rested within the pads of his paw that he'd turned to face him and when looking at it carefully enough, a small shimmer of magic subtly hued it. [break][break]
His ears twitched lightly at the demon's comment of his owners being worried... the very thought of having owners was enough to make him shutter inside. The Kitsune briefly broke focus away from the charm to vaguely side-eye the demon, his features still soft but a sharper gleam casting over his eyes before they once more averted to the charm in his paw. There was no way for the older boy to know he wasn't a forest fox... b-but it still just... was really unnerving to even think about having an owner.... when he was in a cage not long ago. Hesitantly Alfonse considered the options he had.... this boy, his savior, was his easiest ticket out of here but... h-he really didn't want him to look for an owner that didn't exist. Nor did... h-he want him to find him a new one under false illusion of what he was. And... h-he did save him... the older boy deserved seeing... a-at least more of who he was. [break][break]
Anxiously, his paw swayed the chain as his mulled through second-thoughts of a decision that came to him. His fear of being sent off as a domestic Fox to another home was enough to convince him... that he needed to remove this charm. Lowering his head, he unhooked his paw and used it to easily tug the chain up and off him. The necklace clinked onto the ground and in seconds, the illusion of a small red fox misted away from his frame with a dull glow. What sat in its place was Alfonse's truer Kitsune form, taller and larger but sleek in build. Golden-auburn fur, silken and shiny in appearance, covered his frame with two long plush tails airily floating to curl around his front white paws. White hued his chest, face and ears with the same eyes as before meeting with the Demon.[break][break]
The unveiling from the illusion's charm transpired within moments from being removed from his neck, and the ability of being in his own body again resonated great relief... before anxiousness quickly anchored him. Alfonse stood onto all four paws and with polite intents, bowed his head before the Demon, his front arms kneeling forward in an introductory bow before him with his twinned tails swaying behind him. Their first true meeting, with both of them showing whom they truly were... a-and however calm and graceful he tried to seem while doing so.... Alfonse could feel his heart wildly pounding against his chest.
The small smile that hinted Preston's lips didn't go unnoticed by Alfonse. However subtle and brief it may have been, it still uplifted Alfonse's own smile into an even more so spirited mannerism. As the blonde took the red-cover yearbook from him, he explained that before taking it with them to look through they should first find the Librarian to ask if they had permission to do so. "Okay," He agreed with an unfaltering cheerful aura, yet with a voice still soft and gentle in nature. He gave a small and complying nod along with his single-worded agreeing. Now that his guard, Ezriel, had given them space... this was starting to be a little more fun.[break][break]
Curious youthful eyes begun to once more roam over the book shelves as Alfonse, momentarily, was distracted by wonderment. He had self-control and thus was able to prevent himself from eagerly going through the books... he was also shy, and still not familiar enough with Preston to vocalize the depths of his explorative mind in the usual daydreaming manner that it often dwelt in. [break][break]
He was a diligent student in mastering the arts of Magic and self-defense, and did enjoy some of the more so traditional studies found in academic environments for common creatures, but Alfonse was a dreamer at heart. Master Leon would often give him a good startling swat over the head with his staff or spook him back to reality using his manifested magic whenever catching him drifting away in the fantasies spun by his active mind.[break][break]
With the yearbook tucked under his arm, Preston gestured for him to follow. Alfonse, luckily, saw his gesture and lulled himself away from the array of books to follow his tour guide. The light material of his cloak floated as though made of air around his legs as he followed along, staying close to the blonde... a-and even speeding up to be closer when they passed by another ensemble of observing eyes from students. His face warmed again when they had left the haven of bookshelves and entered a more so open space of the Library where the desk wasn't far. More students staring.... whispering... h-he could hear a distinct muttering of interest regarding the oddity of Preston specifically being with someone like Alfonse... the word 'weird' grabbed at him quite audibly, though he was unable to decipher the entirety of the comment. [break][break]
The comment was nonetheless one the light auburn haired boy happened to catch when passing by one table and it caused a tightening feeling of his chest. One that had tampered with his previous uplifted moods, as a thoughtfulness captured within his Aquamarine eyes. His gaze lowered towards the ground, before worriedly looking up to Preston. While he was glad that he hadn't been paired with someone more intimidating, and less pleasant-smelling as the blonde... he was reminded of his guilt regarding how the task of guiding him around Lorsette High had disrupted his day. "I-I'm sorry, about drawing so much attention..." He apologized, trying to keep his voice hushed as to not disrupt the Library atmosphere... but feeling increasingly self-conscious, and fretful that he may have actually been a burden on the other boy for making them stand out like sore thumbs.
