Welcome to The Duality of Man, an original animanga role-play that features numerous supernatural creatures. Unfortunately, these various species have distanced themselves because of the war that occurred thousands of years ago, plaguing some with eyes that only see their dualism. While others meddle themself with their differences, two groups fight, each attempting to eliminate the other in for their definition of worldly peace. These two groups of the Terror Response Syndicate (TRS) and the Assembly of Phantoms (AP). With individuals fighting merely over their differences, it brings uncertainty to the outcome of this war.
We happily accept all role-players as long as they obey the rules and are capable of meeting our word count of 50. This does include those who are unfamiliar with this style of role-playing. The staff of The Duality of Man are willing to happily help those who are new to the role-playing world so they feel comfortable on site. Feel free to message the staff if you need help, they can be found here or in the site Discord and will gladly answer questions alongside calm concerns. Lorsette High School was the primary source of education for the city's youth, if not even among the only standard option. Public, but seemingly contained in terms of staff and a cared for facility. Alfonse had always been raised in a very sheltered academic environment that differed from schools like these. His mother taught him the standards of knowledge such as history, literature, and math. Only the most qualified and experienced of instructors were left to teach him the ways of Water Manipulation, and even war legends such as Master Leon strictly showed him the ways of Hexing and Illusions. His academic background was anything but what could be considered as normal for the typical teen. Mastering his inherited abilities and being groomed to one day rule their clan alongside his father was always a top priority, above all else. Alfonse had never so much as been in a classroom environment before.[break][break]
This would potentially change. His mother's presence was needed for more missions regarding Dawn of Shadowstride, and a recent gathering of fellow high-ranked clan colleagues had agreed that it was time that Alfonse had seen more of what the typical world was like.... so that he may know what to expect from others, and use such knowledge towards preparing himself in how to handle various walks of life. While, also, hopefully realizing the importance of their clan's dynamics.... setting them a part from the common walks of life. One could not know how to properly lead their people without, first, understanding what makes them different from the others. [break][break]
He and his parents were accompanied by the Principal of Lorsette High and three guards of their own choosing. With the classy dressing of his parents, both being very well groomed in a mannerism that had showed of some of their wealth, and Alfonse's own provided attire the group stood out like a sore thumb against the backdrop of the campus. The guards didn't help with blending in, though this wasn't a concern of theirs. In his father's opinion, if the eyes of faculty and students looked upon them and saw that they were of certain social power, that was a good thing. It would send across the message of not messing with his son if he were to join the student body. The actual reasoning for their guards, however, was more so for further protection in case of any unpleasant surprises. Showing dominance was second nature for his father after the long and grueling years.[break][break]
The principal had met with them in his office before personally showing them through the courtyards, and the first few locations of interest. Alfonse found himself in a state of anxiousness upon being somewhere so new and different to him... with a lot of youth, his own age, looking... different than what he was to. Their clothes, their behavior, and seeing them sitting in classrooms in strange rows of chairs with wooden desks.... it was all very different and just... weird to him. H-he didn't know what to think... or if he actually... liked anything he was seeing because of how odd it was to see so many kids his ages grouped together in a place like this. His sensitivity to smell, due to his genes, had become over-stimulated as well... and it smelled just as weird.... as this place looked to him.[break][break]
Upon the occasional eyes following them from curious students on the other sides of classroom windows, Alfonse had followed closely alongside his mother, his hands holding onto her arm. His face warmed when the group had momentarily paused in the halls, with one classroom in particular having a perfect window view of them. His small nose twitched from its over-stimulation of scents, and when nervously daring himself to glance towards the window, he was met with exactly what he could intuitively sense.... a few different teens joining at the window during some group project to look at the wealthy guarded group of individuals. His cheeks reddened, burying his face shyly to hide within the warmth of his mother's upper arm and especially hide himself away from the strange teens.[break][break]
"-- Ah, I see, that is reassuring to know. And, I presume advanced electives are offered here as well?" His father chatted along with the principal, tall and confident in demeanor. His mother had listened closely, partaking in the conversation as well, though Alfonse's sheepish behavior had drew her attention towards him. "Alfonse, please, hold your head high," She scolded, bringing her shoulder away from him and even turning to more so face his father. The gesture rendered him without a comforting barrier from the nosy and curious eyes of strangers. Alfonse had chosen to instead position himself between the guards.... as to block them out. Aquamarine eyes glistened from the sunlight shining upon them from the outside courtyards, nervously trying to watch his parents and the Principal... and avoid looking somewhere else. [break][break]
Had his Kitsune ears and tails summoned themselves on their own free will, he could imagine... h-how much worse their staring would be-- ah, n-no, he shouldn't have thought about that! What if it actually happened now!? M-maybe if he pretended he didn't see anyone else, they would lose interest. The boy was clean and tidied in appearance, a fine silken hooded cloak worn over a lovely dark blue suit. He was tempted to lift the hood over his head, but new it was bad manners in front of elders to do so... thus, Alfonse tried to be polite and stand patiently while waiting for the Principal to resume his guidance.

[attr=class, punkisavelighttext] Early spring was an exciting time for the students of Lorsette High School. Gradually, the days were ticking down to spring break, an event a majority of students giddily waited for. Conversation regularly occurred in the classroom, students more concerned with the upcoming freedom rather than their assignments. Weather forecasts were stating spring break would provide favourable conditions. In a corner of the room, the precalculus teacher softly sighed before lazily glancing over the bundle of papers on his desk. Ceasing the endless chatter would be difficult, thus he decided to merely rush the students through the final assignments before the break; they were the individuals deciding to waste their time. Unlike a majority of the students, Preston was stationed in a desk near the large windows, pencil primed as he gazed at the final questions on his assignment. Carefully, he etched the numbers and symbols, assuring every section of his work was legible. As he wrote each section, his amber eyes flirted towards his calculator to agilely type in a few numbers, the screen soon displaying the answers to his inquiries. Everybody else in the room was ignored, the blond fixating entirely on the assignments his teacher provided. Completing his work correctly and earning top marks were crucial to getting accepted into the best medical schools for his future career.
[break][break]
Nobody bothered disturbing the angelic youth, a majority already aware Preston was more fixated on his work opposed to conversation. There was little interaction between the talkers and the workers, those focusing on their work attempting to avoid having homework in the evening. Gradually, the number of unanswered questions lowered until he finished the final inquiry on the assignment sheet. Once the answer was written out, the angel straightened from his hunched position. There were a few moments taken to flip through the pages, eyes double checking his work to assure correctness. When he was reassured of his work, the blond nodded to himself before grabbing his binder to put the assignment away. A few of those more focused on conversation gawked at his early completion, some even turning away to gossip about the occurrence. Admittedly, Preston was not bothered by the trivial talk which happened when somebody completed their work; if they desired to waste crucial work time, they could. Slowly, the binder was organized then closed, the zipper echoing through the classroom. He kept his binder off to the side, the blond glancing at his mostly empty desk. Merely his binder and pencil case remained, each part expertly organized by the young boy. Unfortunately, he lacked a book to read after finishing his work.
[break][break]
A soft sigh escaped Preston’s lips as his hand shot up, making it obvious he had a question. There was a brief silence until his teacher lazily gazed over the class and noticed one of his better students with his hand up.
[break][break]
“Yes, Preston?” He asked in a bland, bored tone.
[break][break]
The teacher already knew the impending question which would escape the angel’s lips. Months of handling the young blond provided him with awareness on things he usually did after completing his assignments.
[break][break]
“I finished my work, so may I go get a book, please?” Preston asked politely.
[break][break]
A slow nod was provided as the teacher’s answer. With permission granted, Preston pushed his chair out and stood. He inches away from his chair, pushing it in before weaving through the rows of desks and out the classroom door. The door was shut behind him, locking the noise inside and leaving the hallway a place of silence. Briefly, the blond glanced around before walking down the halls, his footsteps echoing through the quiet place. As he walked, the angel shoved his hands into his pockets, amber eyes casually glancing around. There was efficiency as he navigated through the halls, heading towards the high school’s library. The silence was normal during class hours, Preston being surprised when he heard the faint steps of multiple people. The blond raised a brow as he rounded a corner, finding a group being led by the principal. There were mostly adults, one kid being amidst them as they toured around the school. Based on clothing and position, three appeared to be guards, which was definitely an oddity to the high school. The young angel remained quiet as he planned on passing them, still a little perplexed by the strange spectacle.

As his parents chatted with the Principle, Alfonse's chin remained consciously risen upon his mother's scolding request though nervousness dwelt within the depths of his eyes. Only the companionship of guards that he'd nestled himself in-between as to barrier himself away from the nosy stares harboring from the nearby classroom window, provided him with a sense of... n-not completely feeling riddled with anxiety. None of this was of familiar territory to him. Not even the structure of the building, of which felt industrial... and cold to him. His teachings were always in ancient ruins hidden through the powers of carefully harnessed magic, or in temples where nature flourished throughout the perimeter. If not either of those places, it was home, where visiting instructors or even his mother would show him specific disciples. All of what he was exposed to right now was like.... being thrown into a whole other culture. [break][break]
The glisten of his mother's crystal encrusted rose quartz earrings shimmered in the corner of his eye as the young Kitsune attentively lifted his head furthermore towards the direction of the stretch of hallway before him. Upon doing so, he saw someone appearing around the corner of the hallway. Another youth, small in stature and of bright blonde hair. The sight stirred surprise within Alfonse when seeing a common attendant of this school walking before him without the enclosure of industrial walls separating them. [break][break]
Immediately, his large Aquamarine eyes widened in curiosity. The clothing the blonde boy wore was much unlike his own, and suited the environment of this institution while also looking clean and kept. His gaze lasted but only a moment as sheepishly, he lowered his eyes away from him and tried to instead watch his parents. The principal let out a jolly laugh from something his father said, whom always seemed to somehow spark that kind of charisma around people.... but Alfonse missed what the punch-line was, or if there even was one. [break][break]
"-- I can assure you that your son will be in good hands. Our teachers keep a close eye on our students to prevent any tom-foolery," The man answered with blissful affirmation, and just when the blonde came close enough within walking distance, he took notice of him and immediately diverted his attention, "Preston Clark! Perfect timing, just the young man I was hoping to see. Have you finished your assignments early as per usual?" His parents both happened to look over at the youth, as did the the guards, whom remained where they stood without budging. Alfonse's eyes once more glanced at the boy, whom was apparently named Preston, but modestly once more fell upon the flooring.... hoping... that they could continue their tour soon. A-and so that he could go home... and maybe... try negotiating his academics. I-It wasn't like he didn't respect the decision of his father and the higher-ups of their clan! But, w-well.... you know....[break][break]
"Allow me to introduce everyone. This is one of our most dedicated and high achieving students out of all our age groups at Lorsette High. And, Preston, this is the Sinclairé family having relocated all the way from the Welsh Highlands. They have shown an interest in choosing our school for their son's academic pursuits, and currently, they're being shown around on a personalized tour," The principal went on to introduce proudly. The man was secretly quite thankful that one of his best students had showed up while leading the Sinclairés around.... Preston was just the type of student he felt would be his best chance to prove to the family that their campus would be suitable for promising students. His father was the first to speak extending a strong handshake out towards the blond youth. "Hello, Preston. Pleased to meet you," Mr. Sinclairé's smile was warm and inviting, though his handshake was quite firm, "I'm Henryk Sinclairé. This is my wife, Elodie, and my son Alfonse," Elodie smiled brightly to the boy, cheeping in a daintily spoken "Yes, it's lovely meeting you!". Upon both his sociable parents already introducing themselves, Alfonse knew he was next, and his smile shown in a soft and very shy manner as he politely bowed his head in an offered greeting. "H-hello..."

[attr=class, punkisavelighttext] Silently, Preston proceeded forward, each step carrying him closer to his destination and past the interesting group of people touring the facility. He merely wore casual clothing, a light grey hoodie and a pair of blue jeans were definitely not flashy attire for high school. While the angel continued walking, his amber eyes stared at the floor, occasionally flirting upwards to assess his progress through the hallway. There was no requirement to engage in conversation, or at least Preston originally believed the notion. As the blond angel was about to walk past, he overheard the conversation, making it evident that it was focused on a possible new student. Immediately, the young student shrugged off the notion, deciding to allow the gossipers to accomplish their regular investigations while he focused on his work; when the announcement of a new student arrived, the class was always delighted. Before Preston could manage to pass by, his name was exclaimed by the principal, resulting in the blond freezing as his amber eyes glanced towards his principal. The inquiry about completing his work was answered with a small, hesitant nod. Gradually, Preston straightened his back, preparing himself for the unfortunate situation he was imprisoned in.
[break][break]
When the introductions began, the blond angel immediately realized the principal was using him as a shining example of the brilliant minds currently learning in Lorsette High School. Admittedly, Preston found the choice sensible considering his high marks and large aspirations; becoming a doctor was not a simple task. Nervousness assaulted the young blond's mind as plenty of attention was provided to him. Shyly, the angel's eyes flitted to the tiled floors of the hallways and only glanced at the individuals in the group occasionally. Why did the principal discover the necessity to thrust him into an attention-grabbing position? School presentations were already difficult under most circumstances, but is expected to impress a group of adults for the purpose of gaining new students was a crucial task. There were desires to magically disappear, however, Preston knew running away would result in him being a pathetic excuse for a top student. A few small nods were provided to the information his principal made him privy to, the blond quietly glancing over the group before looking away again. When the extended hand entered his view, Preston paused before hesitantly taking it.
[break][break]
Another pause ensued as the blond angel listened to the introductions, a deep breath being taken because of the overwhelming situation his principal placed him in. Every second, Preston wished he could have managed to walk past and escape into the comforting shelves of the school library.
[break][break]
"Um... Nice to meet you too," he quietly reciprocated.
[break][break]
There was a radical difference between this situation and the presentations Preston was expected to perform to keep excellent marks. Presentations allowed rehearsals and preparation, however, reality rarely allowed for these moments. Thus, the young angel felt surprised and awkward in this situation. Unfortunately, escape was impossible since the young angel doubted his principal would allow him to merely slip past easily.

Quietly, the blonde student reciprocated pleasantries and Alfonse noticed that he seemed very shy. Almost like how he felt being in this strange and unfamiliar institution. Seeing someone else feeling uncomfortable, and being close enough to the other boy to see the soft and tame features of his demeanor managed to slightly ease Alfonse. It was nice to see someone whom even if only at a glance, he could... somewhat relate to... and also whom didn't look intimidating.[break][break]
The oceanic Aquamarine hues of his eyes shyly but curiously watched the blonde upon lifting his head from its bow, his smile softly hinting the outline of his lips. He didn't smell strangely, either.... a-actually, he had a rather nice smell of pine mixed with cologne.... it reminded him of the many forests he'd seen growing up, and of the cologne his father would put on to please his mother. The scent he'd picked up from the blonde was refreshing from the other odors his sensitive nose was exposed to since entering the more so student-inhabited regions of the campus.[break][break]
"Alfonse will be in the same class as you if he enrolls with our school," The principal carried on to explain with an expression practically radiating with determination and a big smile plastered on his face, "This of course means you will be seeing a lot of each other. Speaking of which-- what better way for your son to become familiarized with our academia and students than to have a star pupil escort him?" [break][break]
The question was one that made Alfonse's already prominent youthful eyes widen in alarm, lifting his head to glance away from the Preston and the Principal to look up to his parents. It but a second later, before anyone had time to respond, when the Principal eagerly suggested more possibilities. "I know you have plenty of questions that we can discuss while looking around, and perhaps visiting in my office. It would be a wonderful time for Preston to show Alfonse around and get to know other students," [break][break]
Immediately, his chest squeezed with nervousness upon hearing the idea of being separated from his parents. H-he didn't know this place, and.... h-he didn't know anyone here! Even if the blonde boy looked and smelled nice, that didn't mean h-he wanted to be alone... with him...! A-and, and he was willing to bet that the other boy probably felt the same way. Alfonse's expression radiated with an anxiousness that he need not to speak aloud for it to be obviously how he felt about the proposal, quietly gulping while an uneasy gaze flicked between the floor, and his father.... the one whom always had the final word. [break][break]
His mother seemed interested and open-minded, whereas his father seemed hesitant. "That's quite a reasonable suggestion.... I would like for Alfonse to interact with the same youth he would be seeing on a near daily basis," He considered aloud, before a handsome and considerate smile crossed his features while looking to Preston, "However, I wouldn't want to interrupt any important business of yours, young man. Would you have any spare time to accompany my son?" Alfonse's gaze turned silently pleading, anxiously remaining between the guards he'd already been standing between for comfort, but his father had avoided acknowledging his son's silent wish. Whatever he decided was best, his son was going to do.

[attr=class, punkisavelighttext] The entire situation the principal dragged Preston into felt awkward because of his shyness and lack of marvellous social skills. Furthermore, the unexpected compliments were showered on the blond boy, each suggesting the principal's intentions were to glamourize his achievements. While the young angel managed to receive the highest marks in his class on a majority of occasions, it was merely because of his hard-working attitude. Anybody could accomplish receiving those impressive scores through hard work, fixating their attention on their teacher and assuring they properly digested the information being explained to them. Briefly, the blond's eyes flitted towards the young boy, easily noticing his wide, curious aquamarine eyes staring his way. Hints of shyness remained evident, suggesting a mixture of both emotions as he looked at him. Determination encompassed the principal who held an extremely broad smile on his lips, revealing his properly cleaned teeth. Concern broke across Preston's face as he flinched after witnessing the expression as he worried about the ideas going through the principal's mind at this current moment.
[break][break]
The son, named Alfonse, was apparently around the same age range as Preston, evident by the principal's statement of the pair being in the same class. There was a chance of them having a slight age difference, but nothing significant based on the fact Alfonse would be accepted into their classroom. Quietly, the blond listened, surprise breaching his expression when the principal stated he would be an excellent escort for around the school. While Preston was an incredible student, his questionable abilities in personal conversation oftentimes resulted in him being a choice of desperation for those searching for somebody to socially charm another individual. Nervousness squeezed the blond, his hands coming together to squeeze his fingers in hopes of discovering relief. While Preston could maintain an air of calmness under most circumstances, the weight of responsible was hefty on his shoulders this time around. The principal wanted him to show Alfonse around, leading him through the school and introducing him to the other students and likely some faculty; what if he failed on giving a tour? Would the principal be upset?
[break][break]
Under any circumstances, Preston refused to disappoint the faculty of the school, especially considering they were the individuals who would inevitably assist him in becoming a doctor. A long exhale escaped his lips as the blond glanced up at the principal.
[break][break]
"What about my teacher? ... He thinks I am getting a book," Preston asked quietly.
[break][break]
The blond was lost on how he could refuse to accomplish the crucial job, especially considering the principal appeared to have plenty of faith in him. Currently, Preston felt unprepared to handle the situation, making it difficult for him to easily accept assisting in touring Alfonse around the school. Although, when his gaze flitted to the mother who smiled at the notion, the blond's heart sank at the idea of disappointing her. There could potentially be more frowns as a result of refusing, and despite being rather cold at times, Preston's respect for the faculty at Lorsette High School was stronger.
[break][break]
"Um... I guess I could," he murmured quietly.
[break][break]
Acquiring a book from the library could hardly classify as important business to attend to, thus Preston felt required to agree in providing Alfonse with a grand tour. Momentarily, the angel's amber eyes glanced around the area, a small frown touching his face as he debated where exactly to begin. The size of their city made the high school a rather large building with plenty of students after all.

When Preston expressed concerned over his teacher, the Principal instantly waved such thoughts away, a small scoff leaving him that was once more masked under a broad-smiled and friendly face. One that, to Alfonse, didn't seem natural.... he looked like he was trying really hard to be nice, or something... o-oh, but, that was probably not nice to think of someone else. He knew that this man was the one in charge of Lorsette High, and not only did he need to be respectful but he also needed to be open-minded to this new academic environment. His parents wanted him to... and so did the high-ranks of their clan.[break][break]
"Good kid, worrying about your teachers. Show Alfonse around the school while on your way to the Library, and then come back to your classroom to let your teacher and classmates know you have my permission to guide a prospective student around," The principal suggested, though the mannerisms of which he spoke seemed more so like a command than a mere potential option. Upon his father's lack of acknowledgement regarding his attempts of hinting pleading eyes his way, Alfonse gave up and shyly lowered his gaze to befall his gloved hands. His fingers anxiously began to slowly fidget among each other from underneath the long sleeves of his cloak, feeling an anxious tightening within his chest the more he listened.... and the more apparent it became that he would be leaving the safety of his parents' company. H-he felt a little guilty for indirectly getting this other boy involved, too...[break][break]
"-- Yes, excellent, thank you Preston!" The principal rejoiced, and Alfonse's mother smiled in a vibrant friendliness. "My husband and I appreciate you watching over our son. Alfonse is well-behaved... usually," She told him with a slight teasing tone. When hearing her bringing him up to the other boy, Alfonse lifted his face to look up at her.... feeling a surge of sheepishness rush over him. "He shouldn't give you a hard time, but if he does--" She began with a growing motherly smile fixated upon Preston, and Alfonse let out an embarrassed but light groan.[break][break]
"M-mom..." He softly murmured, his face warming with hands continuing to nervously fidget among themselves. Silently, he fretted his mother would say something like that... a-and Preston would already not like him, or think he was weird. His father let out a laugh. "I'm sure these two will be just fine. You'll enjoy yourself more being around another kid, as opposed to three frumpy adults," The tall gentleman moved near Alfonse, two of the guards seeming to understand a silent order from the way he approached him and pulling themselves away from the boy and along the side of the hallway. [break][break]
One remained next to Alfonse, however, and while they said nothing they still attentively observed while his father gave Alfonse an affectionate and encouraging pat on the back. "Run along, now" He ushered with a sudden firm nudge that sent the Kitsune forward in the direction Preston stood. The fabric of his cloak swayed about his knees from the notion, his footsteps lightly and briskly forced forwards a few steps to break the barrier of distance between he and the blonde. Alfonse's large eyes widened at the other boy upon being met with being directly before him, though he quickly once more glanced away in a very shy nature, startled by his father's gesture... a-and also by being pushed right in front of the other youth. "Thank you very much for your time, Preston. I know Alfonse will be in good hands," His father calmly gazed in the blonde youth's direction, eyes intensely befalling the amber hues of the boy's eyes.

[attr=class, punkisavelighttext] Trapped by the crushing weight of expectations on his shoulders, Preston already became aware there would be no escape from the plan his principal constructed. The blond was merely a doll, strings bound around his limbs as the adult figure he respected decided his duty. On behalf of the school, Preston Clark was given the command of touring the potential new student, Alfonse Sinclairé, around Lorsette High School. Ultimately, the assignment was more befitting for a sociable popular student who could easily provide torrents of information about the various students, although, with plenty of scandals. Unfortunately, the blond angel assumed these individuals were not the optimistic and pleasant sort. While Preston derived pleasure from assisting others, he genuinely believed he was unsuitable for this particular job. Tutoring a group of students was easy, but directly socializing and displaying the school’s positive assets to somebody he never met would be challenging. The scoff followed by cracks in the principal's mask resulted in the blond tensing slightly. Evidentally, the response was unsatisfactory for his principal, which meant Preston could have answered it better.
[break][break]
A suggestion was provided by the principal who obviously knew Preston's route once his assignments were completed. After being given the recommendation, the blond angel hastily nodded without any more complaints. Evidently, he wished to avoid upsetting his principal any further. A quick glance around the hallway resulted in the intelligent angel releasing an inaudible sigh. There were only lockers lining the walls, only pausing whenever there was a door for the entrances of the classrooms. A gleeful exclamation escaped the principal's mouth when Preston finally agreed to provide Alfonse with the grand tour of the high school despite his nervousness. A faint red touched the blond angel's cheeks when thanks were given for agreeing to offer his assistance. Admittedly, the angelic student was nervous and mildly embarrassed over the appreciation they demonstrated for complying to the notion of guiding Alfonse through the high school.
[break][break]
"N-no problem," Preston managed to respond.
[break][break]
Awkwardly, the blond watched as the situation segued into Alfonse being toured through the high school and shown the few locations Preston would be heading. The input provided by the auburn-haired child's parents was amusing, however, it failed to become prevalent on his face. Nervousness had consumed him as the angel hastily began planning on how exactly he should show Alfonse around after informing his teacher. The anxieties increased when the boy with aquamarine eyes was pushed closer, making it obvious it was time to leave. As the groups begin parting, the blond immediately noticed how one of the guards remained by Alfonse's side, suggesting he would be watched throughout the interaction. There was something uncomfortable about the notion of being observed by somebody who appeared to be a guard, but Preston remained silent about his opinions. However, the blond continued to endlessly wondered why this young boy needed guards present; the mere notion was rather frightening since it suggested the possibility of danger. The final compliment was left with a small nod before beginning to walk down the hallway in the direction of the library. A quick gesture was made for Alfonse to follow, the blond intending to begin their tour.
[break][break]
"Um... What have you seen so far?" Preston inquired curiously.
[break][break]
The steps were taken slowly, the blond attempting to hastily piece together a presentation for showing off the highlights of Lorsette High School. Currently, the library would be an excellent destination to begin considering Preston's familiarity with the location. There was a chance they could even look at yearbooks in the future to allow Alfonse a glimpse of the school's history and allow him a quick glance of the current students; it seemed more productively than individually introducing him. Becoming educated about the students in the school would be a slower process, although, Preston could at least provide some insight about classmates he held information on. Gradually, the library came into view, the large glass windows allowing students to peek through from the hallways and assess who was inside. Tall shelves of books alongside a few reading areas could be observed from the hallway, although, Preston believed a more thorough opinion could be manifested by entering. Slowly, he approached the door, pulling it open to allow Alfonse inside first.

With haste, the Principal was already beginning to lead Alfonse's parents away. The group was moving in the direction that Alfonse recognized as being where Preston came from... and as he watched for a few moments longer, the anxiety and nervousness swimming within his stomach had nearly felt sickening. Fret filled his youthful large eyes that soon lowered towards the ground, fingers continuing to weave through each other in a mannerism representing his very anxiousness. This whole entire campus was of completely new territory to him and everything was just... v-very intimidating. He hoped everything would be as simple as the man in charge made it sound... [break][break]
His guard remained stationed, though calm grey almond-shaped eyes seemed to be narrowing down on Preston watchfully. This was a sight Alfonse failed to see, due to his own sheepish gaze remaining befallen away from the tall, muscular-framed guard of his. He soon lifted his eyes to meet with Preston, whose amber eyes converged with his own. The color of his eyes were really pretty, like sunlight. His soft features and pleasant pine aroma was of some comfort to him in the midst of the industrial, cold environment, and he did feel some thankfulness... that if he were to be escorted by any youth his age, it was someone of this blonde's stature. [break][break]
A shy, but well-meaning smile crossed Alfonse's features as the boy begun to speak. He waved his hand in a mannerism that indicated following him, and Alfonse did so with his footsteps light beneath him. The fine material of his cloak gently swayed behind him as he strolled, providing an aura of quiet elegance that followed him. Relief accompanied the anxiety dwelling within him, for the classroom of staring students joined in their seats or even standing at the window would no longer serve as an audience. Th-thank goodness....[break][break]
His guard wasn't as quiet, his steps heavier and easily over-shadowing his own as he remained at a distance but never too far behind. Alfonse attempted to remember the names of the places the Principal showed he and his family, though some of it was difficult to recall the exact names of due to how much they differentiated from the academic environments he was used to. "He showed us a big gathering room. I-I think.... it is called the auditorium," He answered in a careful voice as he continued trying to properly sort through his thoughts to remember, "W-we also were shown the front courtyard, an office, and the entrance corridors..." Thoughtfully, Alfonse rose a gloved hand towards his mouth. "U-Um... that may be it..." He murmured in a voice falling into a soft and uncertain hush. H-he didn't know if that was actually what any of that was called, but that's what it all looked like to him... hopefully it was helpful to the nice seeming boy.[break][break]
As he pulled himself out of his thoughts, he realized they were nearing a place that did look familiar in atmosphere to him. There was no doubt that they were approaching a Library. This arose a brightening gleam in the hues of his Aquamarine eyes, vibrant and visibly interested but being patient and quiet as to let Preston speak first before he did so himself. The guard continued following them, beginning to transition into a more so relaxed posture as opposed to his fairly tense disposition back when they were with the group. Upon Preston opening the door of the Library for him to enter, Alfonse's smile sheepishly warmed as he gave a courteous bow of his head. "Thank you," He quietly spoke in gratitude, stepping inside into the premises of the Library's exterior. Wide child-like eyes took in the scenery now surrounding him, observing the tall shelves.... before inevitably spotting the other students inside.[break][break] A number of them were staring over, some even beginning to audibly murmur among each other when his guard stepped inside to join them. This caused an immediate heating in Alfonse's face, his anxiety becoming a front-seat emotion to him once more. He inched his footsteps a little closer towards Preston, smoothing the front of his cloak, and remained right beside him... where it felt slightly less unnerving. "Um, what book a-are you looking for...?" He asked in a soft tone, his Aquamarine gaze once more casting upon him.

[attr=class, punkisavelighttext] Inevitably, the trio was separated from the remainder of the adults, which left Preston alone to cater to the child and his guard. With the crowd essentially cut in half, the blond felt slightly more comfortable attempting to converse, although, the watchful eyes of the guard was concerning. There were certain words which could concern guards, thus the angel felt he needed to carefully watch his language. While he was certain Alfonse’s guard would not consider him a thread, the individual would easily have connections to both the boy’s parents and potentially his principal. The blond angel accepted the task which weighed heavily on his shoulders, albeit, nervously considering the concerns that flooded his mind. Fortunately, Preston kept himself calm through soothing breaths and with prior knowledge his diction was oftentimes proper and without blasphemous words. It easily kept the young angel optimistic as he mentally attempted to prepare an organized idea of what he would be accomplishing. As the auburn-haired boy was prompted to provide information about where excellent the principal had toured him before suddenly handing him off to Preston.
[break][break]
There was a brief glance at the guard, an emptiness entering Preston's stomach and a tightness in his chest from noticing the guard's narrowed gaze appeared to lock on him. Bashfully, the blond turned away, focusing on the hallway ahead of him as the sensation of eyes watching him remained on his neck. In a desperate attempt to keep his mind off it, the angel began nodding to the words Alfonse mumbled out, mentally checking each location he listed while trying to shove away the thought of the guard staring at him.
[break][break]
"So that is all? I can maybe show you some of the classrooms... At least then you can know where you were going," Preston said, voice still quiet.
[break][break]
There was immense comfort in approaching the library, merely grabbing the door handle and pulling it open brought a sense of comfort for the blond angel. Positive vibes always radiated from the wonderful land of books as imaginative memories of the numerous stories he read filled his mind. The library itself was a symbol of calmness, knowledge and wonder for Preston, the very scent of the old and new books always relaxing the angelic youth. After the pair entered the library, the blond followed behind them, evidently unbothered by the students who stared and gossiped; it was inevitable. Students were curious and desired to speak about the most recent news in Lorsette High School, especially if it involved a potential new student in their midst. New students meant a possible new member to the of the cliques available in the school. When Preston noticed the staring, a soft sigh escaped his lips, the young blond already imagining the barrage of endless questions the students would ask about Alfonse. For a few moments, the angel's amber eyes remained on the group before hearing the soft inquiry from the auburn-haired youth.
[break][break]
"Hmm... I wasn't sure... I mean, we could grab a yearbook. All the teacher and student pictures will be inside of it," Preston suggested.
[break][break]
Regularly, Preston would have immediately strode into the fantasy section and look through a variety of covers and plot synopsis, however, that would consume precious time which could be spent giving Alfonse a thorough tour. Slowly, the blond moved forward, heading to one of the shelves near the back that stored the numerous yearbooks. The most recent one would provide the greatest knowledge about the teachers in the school, thus the blond hoped the book was still there.

Alfonse tried hiding how anxious and uncomfortable he truly felt, his smile nervously remaining upon the fair complexion of his face while gloved hands once more threatened to resume its nervous folding and fidgeting of fingers. The long sleeves of his silken cloak were able to conceal them, much due to the reasoning that his hands were low near his sides. A murmur of curious voices reached his ears.... voices all but too whispered for him to understand what they were saying. [break][break]
H-he felt.... like a weirdo here.... a-and it didn't help that his dad was insistent that they always had guards with them even in the city. N-no one else had a guard with them at this school! Why should he? Was his dad going to make him have a guard with them in class too? T-the thought was really embarrassing.... he kind of felt like it was unlikely, though... unless if his dad had them spy on him in secrecy. That sounded a lot more likely...[break][break]
When Preston told him that he was considering finding a yearbook, Alfonse attempted to push his fretful thoughts away and focus solely on the boy and his tasks. He wanted to act as normally as possible... i-if it even were possible, so that things wouldn't feel as unnerving to him and he could maybe even make a new friend before his first day of class. He nodded in a listening manner and when the blonde begun his stroll towards the back, he begun following him. His guard started doing the same before Alfonse turned around, pausing in his steps with a hitched breath in preparation for what he was about to say. H-he did feel a little... annoyed with the man's looming presence when he was trying to be a normal kid. "Would you mind waiting for us to be done? Maybe you can find a book to read...." He asked in a lowered voice and with a polite smile. The man's greys momentarily weighed upon the youth before he closed them with a slight nod of his head in compliance. "Yeah... as you wish," His husky voice answered and relief shown within Alfonse's discomfort pooling within his gaze. "Thank you, Ezriel,"[break][break]
Thank goodness! He didn't see why his guard had loom over them so much in a library, anyway.... and it meant he could talk with Preston more. A-and, maybe not be stared at so much! Alfonse had easily caught up with Preston, having not fallen behind by much anyway, and his light footsteps had made him sound nearly inaudible before he found himself once more near and beside the blonde boy. "Can I help?" He asked him, gaze maneuvering about the boys as curiosity gleamed within his gaze, "What does a yearbook look like?" Truth be told, Alfonse had never seen a year book before in his life. He had class photos but never a need for the type of book Preston was referring to.

[attr=class, punkisavelighttext] Thoughts were not taken to how Preston's companion could feel about the library situation, particularly the curious eyes gazing their way. These students were merely performing the regular reactions in response to potential new students joining in their mix. If anything, the stares and gossip were an inevitable fate both of them would be forced to suffer. People would endlessly inquire about Alfonse and the guard which lurked behind him, watching. Furthermore, the blond's loner status resulted in a few furrowed brows of confusion as people wondered why the non-social boy associated himself which the strange group. They would search for the truth, the angel already assuming they would hastily discover it through word of mouth; once questions got answered, the answers would spread like wildfire. The system of information sharing was a double edged sword since while it limited interactions, there were more embarassing stories shared through conversation. Fortunately, Preston could find relief in the notion of escorting a new student around their high school. A soft sigh escaped the blond angel's mouth as his amber eyes noticed the curious stares, even from those who would have been presumably invested in their selected literature.
[break][break]
Anxiety would transpire from both the watchful eyes of Alfonse's guard and the impending questions which would arrive once the tour was completed. Hands were held together, the blond nervously wringing his hands as he maintained steady breathing; under most circumstances, he lacked expressiveness with his feelings. Surprise briefly touched his face when he noticed Alfonse turn towards his guard, requesting for him wait until they were done in the library. Could the request truly be fulfilled? If the guard left them for even a brief moment, then there would be freedom of speech without the tense presence of Alfonse's watcher. The agreement shocked Preston since the blond was expecting the guard to never decide to leave his charge, although, he supposed the walls of the school were safe. Despite somewhat listening to their exchange, Preston proceeded forward, only waiting briefly to assure he would not get out of Alfonse's sight. Once the auburn-haired youth caught up, the blond rounded the corner, heading further into the maze of books. Briefly, he glanced behind them, still surprised the guard decided not to follow them into the back of the library.
[break][break]
When they arrived at the particular shelf, Preston turned to gaze at the numerous years books which marked the numerous years Lorsette High School was open. The blond paused to stare at the books until he was interrupted in his thoughts by Alfonse who wished to help.
[break][break]
"Well... I think the cover was red this year... It should say 2017-2018 on the book's spine," Preston said, murmuring a description.
[break][break]
Carefully, Preston's eyes skimmed through the shelves, searching for the book he needed. The yearbook was necessary for the blond's plan, although, there were times books were misplaced or used by other students, hopefully, the yearbook was somewhere on the shelf. Logically, it would be closer to the furthest right edge considering the book was newer, but there were times students would shove a book in whatever place to return later.

For a few distracted moments, Alfonse's wide and youthful eyes curiously roamed along the shelves of books they were now surrounded by. It, admittedly, wasn't very much compared to what he was used to. Perhaps he was spoiled by the ancient archives and libraries of the shrines he'd once spent ample time in overseas, although the concept of being spoiled was one unbeknownst to himself. He never really consider such things... but nonetheless, even while the library was quaint to his previous Library experiences, Alfonse still felt the same appreciation and wonderment regarding the multitude of books.[break][break]
He remained beside Preston while he glanced around, only returning his gaze when hearing Preston starting to answer his question. The brightness of his Aquamarine hues gazed upon the blonde as he described the appearance of the yearbook he was in search of. Silently, Alfonse took note... red cover with 2017-2018 printed on the spine. A small smile touched his lips and the boy promptly joined him in physically checking the rows of books in front of them. One of his lean hands revealed itself from its lifting motion, the sleeve of his cloak slipping down towards his elbow as his finger tip gently touched the spines of every book he glimpsed over. [break][break]
A soft deep-in-thought hum left him after a pause arose in their book hunting. His sixth sense begun creeping upon him, however... and slowly, he turned his head in a cautious manner towards the side, finding two students whom were hiding around the corner of a nearby shelf. Their faces were visibly peering over, staring at them... and it was only when Alfonse's eyes locked with theirs when both students quickly dove back behind the shelf entirely. His face once more warmed in self-conscious awkwardness, eyebrows knitting together. S-seriously? People were even spying on them now!? M-Maybe that would be the only time that happened.... he hoped...[break][break]
He resumed their book hunt, warily glancing over where the spying students had once been caught, and only relaxed when seeing that they weren't there anymore. It wasn't long before the book Preston described was found, his finger tip pausing on its spine as a brightness shown in his gaze. "I think I found it...!" He quietly declared, enthusiasm present in his voice. The boy slipped the book out from its spot and turned to face Preston with the year book extended out to him, "It looks like the right one!" A vague accomplished pride matched his enthusiasm and cheerful smile. Alfonse was always quite happy whenever succeeding in helping out another person with something they needed.

[attr=class, punkisavelighttext] Decades of archived information about the students who attended Lorsette High School spanned across several shelves, the large school housing numerous students over the course of its existence. Furthermore, there were commonly multiple copies of the various yearbooks considering their popularity around students. There were plenty of instances where during free time in the library, students would hustle towards the books, searching for siblings, parents and curiously wondering about the elderly folk who stated they lived in Lorsette their entire lives. Several of these occurrences made Preston privy to some of his classmates enjoying flipping through the endless pages of memories, but the blond was not as familiarized with yearbooks. Frequently, he would wander the shelves, searching for something with more words and pages with plots which grabbed his attention. There was an adventure within the wonderful world of words, while yearbooks were merely filled with pictures of other students fooling around under most occasions; due to his intense focus on his studies, Preston possessed barely any pictures by the time the year ended since he found academic awards were rarely recorded.
[break][break]
Carefully, the angelic youth's amber eyes skimmed passed the books, searching for the familiar red cover. Strategically, he searched for the book near the furthest end of the shelf, however, it appeared the yearbook was absent from the location. A soft sigh escaped Preston's lips as he realized a random student recklessly shoved the book into a random location, which meant finding it would prove more difficult. There were a few yearbooks which decided to use red as their main colours, resulting in the search not being nearly as straightforward. Fixation was completely given to the shelf, the blond failing to notice the students lurking around the corners, thieving curious glances at the newest student to join their ranks; Alfonse's absent guard only increasing their hungering for information. Concentration was broken when Preston managed to hear the quiet declaration, the angel's eyes flitting towards the boy, a brief, tiny smile touching his face before fading back into his natural expression.
[break][break]
"Perfect, we should be able to take it with us, but we should ask the librarian to make sure," Preston explained.
[break][break]
Softly, Preston grabbed the yearbook when extended towards him, his eyes glancing over the fancy font which stated Lorsette High School 2017-2019. The book's theme was based on the yearbook committee's belief that a more rich and famous styling could potentially make for an eye-catching cover. Once in his hands, the blond tucked the yearbook under his arm and gestured for Alfonse to follow him out of the shelves of book. Smoothly, the angel navigated through the shelves, his destination being the front desk where the librarian sat, likely glancing at her computer. However, there were distractions as curious students scuttled between shelves, eyes wide as the pair left the shelves.

The small smile that hinted Preston's lips didn't go unnoticed by Alfonse. However subtle and brief it may have been, it still uplifted Alfonse's own smile into an even more so spirited mannerism. As the blonde took the red-cover yearbook from him, he explained that before taking it with them to look through they should first find the Librarian to ask if they had permission to do so. "Okay," He agreed with an unfaltering cheerful aura, yet with a voice still soft and gentle in nature. He gave a small and complying nod along with his single-worded agreeing. Now that his guard, Ezriel, had given them space... this was starting to be a little more fun.[break][break]
Curious youthful eyes begun to once more roam over the book shelves as Alfonse, momentarily, was distracted by wonderment. He had self-control and thus was able to prevent himself from eagerly going through the books... he was also shy, and still not familiar enough with Preston to vocalize the depths of his explorative mind in the usual daydreaming manner that it often dwelt in. [break][break]
He was a diligent student in mastering the arts of Magic and self-defense, and did enjoy some of the more so traditional studies found in academic environments for common creatures, but Alfonse was a dreamer at heart. Master Leon would often give him a good startling swat over the head with his staff or spook him back to reality using his manifested magic whenever catching him drifting away in the fantasies spun by his active mind.[break][break]
With the yearbook tucked under his arm, Preston gestured for him to follow. Alfonse, luckily, saw his gesture and lulled himself away from the array of books to follow his tour guide. The light material of his cloak floated as though made of air around his legs as he followed along, staying close to the blonde... a-and even speeding up to be closer when they passed by another ensemble of observing eyes from students. His face warmed again when they had left the haven of bookshelves and entered a more so open space of the Library where the desk wasn't far. More students staring.... whispering... h-he could hear a distinct muttering of interest regarding the oddity of Preston specifically being with someone like Alfonse... the word 'weird' grabbed at him quite audibly, though he was unable to decipher the entirety of the comment. [break][break]
The comment was nonetheless one the light auburn haired boy happened to catch when passing by one table and it caused a tightening feeling of his chest. One that had tampered with his previous uplifted moods, as a thoughtfulness captured within his Aquamarine eyes. His gaze lowered towards the ground, before worriedly looking up to Preston. While he was glad that he hadn't been paired with someone more intimidating, and less pleasant-smelling as the blonde... he was reminded of his guilt regarding how the task of guiding him around Lorsette High had disrupted his day. "I-I'm sorry, about drawing so much attention..." He apologized, trying to keep his voice hushed as to not disrupt the Library atmosphere... but feeling increasingly self-conscious, and fretful that he may have actually been a burden on the other boy for making them stand out like sore thumbs.
