Welcome to The Duality of Man, an original animanga role-play that features numerous supernatural creatures. Unfortunately, these various species have distanced themselves because of the war that occurred thousands of years ago, plaguing some with eyes that only see their dualism. While others meddle themself with their differences, two groups fight, each attempting to eliminate the other in for their definition of worldly peace. These two groups of the Terror Response Syndicate (TRS) and the Assembly of Phantoms (AP). With individuals fighting merely over their differences, it brings uncertainty to the outcome of this war.
We happily accept all role-players as long as they obey the rules and are capable of meeting our word count of 50. This does include those who are unfamiliar with this style of role-playing. The staff of The Duality of Man are willing to happily help those who are new to the role-playing world so they feel comfortable on site. Feel free to message the staff if you need help, they can be found here or in the site Discord and will gladly answer questions alongside calm concerns. If you have any suggestions we would love to hear them; guests may use the support board as a suggestion area as well. Should you decide to join, may I say welcome to the site and we all hope you enjoy your time here.
Yours Truely,
The Staff

Summer 2024
Heat has broken through into a glorious summer. The snow has entirely dried through the spring, leaving to the brilliance of the warmer months. Terror activity has risen as people are brought out of their homes, leaving the TRS in a position of consistent work. Each are attempting to maintain victory in the endless struggle for power.
Since the wonderful members of TDOM enjoy the site enough to play around on it, this thread is to assist with the site's tidying! Functionality is important and we want to make the site functional even if its activity will be minimal at best!
“Nicolas…,” He supplied, but looked as though he had just come to some sort of horrible revelation. The look on his face instantly caused Alida to stiffen, her features becoming granite. “Remember that favor I owe you for getting my ipod back? Yeah…” He trailed off and pulled a hand from his pocket; a hand full of sand. Surprise clearly transformed Alida’s features as she stared in wonder and amazement at what he had revealed. “Consider it fulfilled. F**k.”
“That little sh*t,” She couldn’t help but find bewildered amusement in the situation, as she gave an astonished shake of her head and glanced back toward the maze. The two of them had come to the exit rather quickly, and she was thankful that this "Nicolas" fellow had actually been useful.
“Well glad we found the exit, see you later.” Alida brought her attention to him, only to see him putting a finger to his mouth to keep her quiet. “There’s only one way in and out of this damn thing…,” He revealed in a whisper. “I just have to wait until he leaves.”
“Well sh*t,” She chuckled again, her voice low, and a large smirk spread across her face. “Don’t worry, we’ll get him.” She perched down on the stone half-wall beside him, crossing one leg over the other. “I can’t believe the little brat. Oh, he got me good.”
The guy was acting a bit awkward, clearing his throat, and giving a shrug of his shoulders as he mumbled out a barely coherent ‘guess so’. In truth, she actually wasn’t used to getting this sort of bizarre treatment. But, then again, she had lived in Corner Brook where pretty much everyone had known exactly what she was. She hadn’t received any favorable opinions. Of course, there had been the odd time things like this had happened while she had been out and about, but it certainly wasn’t usual. She could hardly remember them anymore.
She wasn’t stupid though; she knew this guy could turn on her at any moment. Apparently, she was the walking, talking, embodiment of taboo. Alida followed in after him, eventually taking her place beside him as he presumably lead her through the maze and toward the exit that had been evading her for the last hour. She didn’t really have much to say. No need to ask his name, no need to get to know him. But, then again, she didn’t really know what she was doing with herself in Lorsette. This guy, and thief-boy, were the first two people she had met in the new city. Huh, maybe she should get his name after all, as a bit of a keepsake.
“Hey, what’s your name,” She stated again, in that pushy manner of hers, delving both of her hands into the front pockets of her black cardigan sweater.
The kid actually listened to her, her threat having struck a chord. Obviously, the kid was too young to be put into jail, but he hadn’t known that, and so she had used his ignorance to her advantage. The boy pulled out what looked to be an expensive music player that he had apparently somehow swiped, and the dirty blond didn’t hesitate to snatch it back into his possession.
Alida’s grip on the boy loosened and she offered him an actual smile as well as gave him a pat on his head. “No more getting into trouble, you,” She chastised him, giving him a lighthearted smack to the bum just before he decided to head off. She looked back to the other male, then, only to see him critically examining the merchandise. The guy was probably around her age, maybe a bit older. He dressed like a lot of guys in school she had had the misfortune of being acquaintanced with. He was attractive, yeah, but she really didn’t give a shit, to be honest.
Still…
“Hey, you wanna help me out in return for that favor,” She stated, not really posing it as a question. “Get me out of here.” She actually offered him a bit of a smirk and folded her arms across her chest, peering at him from behind her dark shades.
While she had been watching the redhead for a prolonged moment, her gaze had ventured to sweep across the room in a casual manner. However, there was simply nothing interesting to watch, and so only a handful of seconds had passed before her mahogany gaze had moved back to the counter, the redhead, and the man taking her order. Of course, as soon as the “human” girl’s attention had drawn to her, red eyes standing out on her features, Alida politely averted her gaze and took another spoonful of ice cream and coffee.
Truth be told, she hadn’t expected the girl to single her out within the cafe, stopping before the couch loungers to ask if she could sit with her. Alida had to forcefully restrain herself from giving the girl a raised eyebrow. And oh, it was hard. Instead, her lips spread into what could only be described as a strained smile, and a quirky tilt of her head. “Uh, sure?” She decided, quite perplexed, yet instantly suspicious as all hell.
Alida sat on one of the long sofa’s that were at the outskirts of the Crescent Moon cafe, mostly reserved for the social gatherings of friends, reading, or networking. Mahogany irises gazed out amidst the interior of the local cafe, silently browsing over the various species who currently occupied the eatery. The Sheppard’s daughter, Ivory, had bailed on her only a handful of minutes prior, leaving her isolated and alienated within the foreign city of Lorsette. [break][break] The mixture of population was certainly bizarre for the eighteen year old, as she had grown up in a city that had been predominantly hell species. Ivory had convinced her to make the bad decision of ordering a deliciously unhealthycold frappe that had been topped with ice cream in a chocolate drizzle. She had taken a spoon to it, impishly indulging in the sin of an overly sugary treat. Ah well. [break][break] A deceptively human-looking redhead was the next person who entered the cafe. Alida didn’t bother to advert her gaze as she watched the girl step up to the counter to begin ordering. Currently, beyond the two of them, there seemed to be some sort of shifter species eating at one of the tables with a tablet in front of them, their ears and tail giving them away. And then what she would presume was a reaper, as waves of dread and fear seemed to be exuding from him from where he sat at the opposite end of the cafe, drinking a black coffee. [break][break] What a weird city Lorsette was.
The child shook his head in denial which just seemed to irritate the other male further. Alida didn’t really appreciate being the middle man, and despite her softening when it came to the kid, she still didn’t have much sympathy or care. In fact, she felt rather apathetic toward the entire thing. But, when demon guy over there opened his big mouth, she could feel her irritation flair. Dealing with demons all her life had made her less tolerant to their bullshit. [break][break] “Look… lady. He’s a thief. I don’t care if he’s a kid, you don’t steal.” [break][break] “Yeah, yeah,” She returned dismissively, but did turn her attention back to the kid. “Look, kid. Give whatever it is you stole back.” She reached down to grasp onto his wrist. What may have been surprising was the fact that she actually believed the dirty blond. Why would he throw such a fuss on a farce? Regardless, the kid wasn’t exactly a threat. At least she didn’t feel so. That may have been an ignorant thought, considering. But, ...eh. “Or I’ll take you down to the police. You don’t want to go to jail, right? For stealing lollipops, or whatever.”
She still couldn’t make anything out above the tall hedges of the maze, but a sudden commotion certainly drew Alida’s attention. A dozen or so feet away she became witness to a chase. The younger of the two looked no older than eleven and there was fear, anger, and frustration mingling on his youthful face when he was grabbed by the hood of his jacket and jerked backward. The older male, a young adult, with dirty blond hair, had been the one to grab him, and there was fury ignited within his features. He was a demon; Alida felt immediately, given the guy’s disposition and the horns that protruded from his skull.
[break][break]
The kid bashed him in retaliation and made a run for it, and when he spotted her he decided to use her for coverage and protection. When the dirty blond finally paused, his furious gaze lifting to her own, it didn’t go unnoticed how his expression and demeanor completely faltered for a moment before he grew stiff and uncomfortable, reeling it back at notch as he revealed; “Kid’s got something of mine.”
[break][break]
Alida reflected his standoffish attitude with one of her own. Although, she did turn her sharp gaze down on the kid who had decided to hide behind her. “You take something, kid?” Her features softened, though. What could she say — she was a girl. It was hard to be guarded against kids. Glancing back, she added as she addressed the guy in front of her. “Even if he did, you shouldn’t have yanked him like that. It’s not right.”
[break][break]
Irony, she realized. That’s what her words were. The thought bore down on her and caused her to breathe out a sigh and bring her hand through her hair, giving her attention back to the kid to see what he had to say for himself.
Despite the fact that she was hopelessly lost, the youthful blond hadn’t regretted her decision to enter the parks impressive hedge maze. She had started when the sun had been high in the sky, but peering out from behind the dark shade of her sunglasses revealed a wash of yellow and pink across the horizon, and a now setting sun. Thankfully she had left the house in a black cardigan, maroon pullover sweater, and a pair of dark jeans, leaving the bitter chill of spring tolerable for the most part. [break][break] In Corner Brook there had never been mazes of any kind, and so she had found the whole idea fascinating. There wasn’t anything too interesting about the squarely trimmed hedge bushes, other than the fact that they purposely rose to about six feet tall. She supposed the true fun part was rounding a corner only to be stopped by a dead end. Alida had already taken her phone out quite a few times by now, mostly to catch pokémon on GO, but also to snap photos and selfies, and send them to her friends Wayne and Felicia. Sometimes she would also send a photo or text to her brother, but most of the time he was too busy with the TRS to respond. [break][break] Thoughts of her brother and father were a bit sobering, and she was incredibly impatient for them to return to Lorsette. She enjoyed the stability of her father’s strength over the household, and solely having to rely on her mother had been… well, straining to say the least. So, she had been all up for the opportunity to finally leave the house and venture out into the city, even with apprehension nipping away at her conscious. The Sheppards had been insistent on Ivory, their daughter, showing her around, but Alida had been able to convince the family, and her mom, to allow her to head to the local park on her own. [break][break] Only a dabbling of snow remained this far into March, but the consistent melting had left the pathway in the maze sludgy throughout most of it and slippery in the shade. With a heavy sigh parting from her mouth, Alida brought one of her hands through her hair, standing on her tippy toes briefly in hopes of a glimpse over the towering hedges for an answer of where to go. She was pretty sure that she had come to this particular section several times now, because of the two adjacent corners and the fact that it dead ended behind her.
HAIR Alida was born a blond. However, as she grew older her hair began to naturally darken and during her mid-to-late teenager years, she began to purchase magic charms that kept her hair the bright and youthful blond she had been born with. The length of her hair ends at the middle of her back, and heavy layering has resulted in a wild and exotic look. Alida often styles her hair in various ways via straightening, curling, braiding, ponytailing, etc.
FACE Alida has average sized eyes that are mahogany in color. Her face is oval in shape with a defined jawline, and her skin is peach in color. When going out, Alida's make-up consists of a light layer of foundation to keep her skin a smooth, even, tone, brown eyeshadow, her eyelashes lightly mascara'd, and a soft pink lipstick. At eighteen, Alida has matured and has inherited her mother and grandmother's exotic beauty.
BODY She stands at 5 foot 4 inches, which happens to be the average height for women. Jogging on a daily basis, as well as maintaining a somewhat (though not perfect) healthy diet, has awarded Alida with a slim and lean figure.
WINGS Alida generally never has her wings visible. However, on the rare occasions where she uses her wings she has a charm that disguises them to appear as Demon wings.
HORNS With the demon species running thick through Alida's bloodline on either side of her family, she has developed her own set of demonic, horns. They have a very defined texture of deep groves and ridges, and are dark brown, almost black in color, lightening to a mahogany that almost matches the color of her eyes at their tips. If there is one feature about herself that she is most proud of, it would be her horns. Alida often dresses them with trinkets and jewelry.
MINOR DARKNESS MANIPULATION — Intermediate Alida can shape and manipulate already existing sources of darkness and shadows. She can enhance or dim the darkness and also use it as a cloak, rendering herself invisible. By accessing the dimension of dark energy, she can also channel the darkness into a solid substance to create constructs, weapons, and even shields. She also has enhanced night vision, allowing her to see well in the darkness she manipulates and shrouds.
MINOR LIGHT MANIPULATION — Advanced Much in the same way, Alida can manipulate already existing light sources to flare or dim and in this way she can, for example, move a source to temporarily blind an enemy. She can solidify light sources by condensing photons, which requires a good amount of natural light to perform, and then use the solid mass as offensive spike projectiles or a shield.
HEXES — Advanced When it comes to the four categories of hexes, Alida is most fluent in healing. She has become well acquainted with the symbols of healing and the sensation of cutting herself to use her own blood to heal her wounds. Alida also has trained well enough to understand how to preform hexes that enable disguises as well as tracking sight. Alida also understands how to use hexes to convert her own magical energy into the manifestation of spectral animal-like creatures. She can currently manage one medium sized phantom via a summoning.
BLESSINGS — Beginner Alida's ability to bless is very poor. She has only been given the basics of training and without an instructor she is rather useless in the department. Neither does she have an interest in further pursuing the magical art.
Fire, Electric, & Holy Water Invulnerability
backstory
Alida was the second born child to her mother and father. Gareth, her older brother by two years, had been born with his father's demon blood running thick through his veins. However, Alida's birth became her mother's worst nightmare come to life; she bore her mother's blood, a fallen angel. In the beginning, Alida grew up having a close relationship to her mother who pampered her greatly. However, the dominant ruling force within the household had always been her father, and as Alida grew older she began to recognize that her mother was an extremely weak individual. As time went on that fact began to separate her from the original bond they had developed as mother and daughter.
Alida grew up in Corner Brook, a city founded and many populated by species from the hell and purgatory houses. In school, she was the only species of her kind which led to much hardship and discrimination against her. Her and Gareth became closer through the school years. He became a protector to her, and Alida began to take strength from both her brother and father, seeing them as strong role models.
Magnus, her father, had been a part of the Terror Response Syndicate for over two decades and was a well known Sergeant in Corner Brook. Both of his children were trained by the TRS from the age of twelve. Gareth joined the organization as a full-time hunter as soon as he graduated high school, When it came to Alida, she held no interest in actually becoming a part of the TRS,
Her last year of high school became the hardest part of her life. Both her father and brother were stationed outside of Corner Brook because of the increase of terror threat in the surrounding areas. And then she met a classmate by the name of Osiris, who became the bane of her existence. Toward the end of the school year, Corner Brook itself was invaded by a hoard of terrors. The TRS ordered a mass evacuation of the city. Alida and her mother, Rosalie, relocated to Lorsette; a city her mother had previously taken refuge in decades prior.
misc
Alida is a light-weight drinker. She takes after her mother. Both her brother and father drink often and Alida learned quickly that she can't handle alcohol. However, after the evacuation of Corner Brook, and her father and brother stationed elsewhere in the TRS, she hasn't had much opportunity to drink.
