Welcome to The Duality of Man, an original animanga role-play that features numerous supernatural creatures. Unfortunately, these various species have distanced themselves because of the war that occurred thousands of years ago, plaguing some with eyes that only see their dualism. While others meddle themself with their differences, two groups fight, each attempting to eliminate the other in for their definition of worldly peace. These two groups of the Terror Response Syndicate (TRS) and the Assembly of Phantoms (AP). With individuals fighting merely over their differences, it brings uncertainty to the outcome of this war.
We happily accept all role-players as long as they obey the rules and are capable of meeting our word count of 50. This does include those who are unfamiliar with this style of role-playing. The staff of The Duality of Man are willing to happily help those who are new to the role-playing world so they feel comfortable on site. Feel free to message the staff if you need help, they can be found here or in the site Discord and will gladly answer questions alongside calm concerns. If you have any suggestions we would love to hear them; guests may use the support board as a suggestion area as well. Should you decide to join, may I say welcome to the site and we all hope you enjoy your time here.
Yours Truely,
The Staff

Summer 2024
Heat has broken through into a glorious summer. The snow has entirely dried through the spring, leaving to the brilliance of the warmer months. Terror activity has risen as people are brought out of their homes, leaving the TRS in a position of consistent work. Each are attempting to maintain victory in the endless struggle for power.
Since the wonderful members of TDOM enjoy the site enough to play around on it, this thread is to assist with the site's tidying! Functionality is important and we want to make the site functional even if its activity will be minimal at best!
Alida’s smile widened into a smirk as the poor guy stumbled over his words, clearly intimidated by the two of them. She'd been having a little fun, but hadn’t actually meant any harm by it. Nicolas, however, had a different perspective on the situation and seemed to be teeming with rage over the blocking ward. “Who cares, you’ve wasted enough of our time already. So hurry it up.” He snapped at the salesman, who grew quiet as he began to climb the ladder to take the trinket down.
And, boy did Alida feel a bit awkward after that. Geeze, the guy hadn’t really done anything too wrong. She wondered if it was prejudice against others, or if it only had to do with his personal dislike for these sorts of things. After all, for one reason or another he had decided to divulge a rather personal story to her. He certainly wasn’t helping their reputation as demon’s with an attitude like that, she had to admit.
“There,” The male said stiffly, his face tight with distaste as he began to step down the ladder. “Now you can get out of our store.”
“Yikes,” She made a face as she passed by the employee and through the doorway, officially exiting the store. Well, unfortunately she just kind of had to roll with the punches, and never be allowed back in this store again — thanks to somebodies attitude.
“Er, know any other clothing stores with that kind of outfit?” She asked Nicolas as she stepped in beside him, shoving both of her hands into the tight front pockets of her black jeans.
Nicolas’ answer came as a shock. Classmates she had expected, but family not so much. The thought of it caused Alida’s features to sober and her mahogany gaze to lower toward the gray slab flooring of the establishment. Her family had always been the one singularity in her life that had her back. They were the only people whom she could trust, and so to hear him say that members of his own family had backstabbed him… well, it certainly came as a bizarity.
Although, both of their attention was drawn back toward the male employee as noises of his struggle reached them. Alida wondered what species the male was in the tree of infinite possibilities — although he was certainly acting decisively human. Following a mischievous smirk, darkness manifested over the ladder, sucking it into the black void, to the clerks shock and horror. And then a black hole reappeared by the front entrance, ladder emerging from its depths.
“You’re welcome,” She supplied with a grin as he stumbled over, clearly flabbergasted and put on edge by her display of power.
“When I was a kid I was locked in a closet for hours with one of those things.” Nicolas divulged, and the weight behind his statement clearly came as a shock for Alida. Both of her brows lifted as she stared across the way at him, and things became a little bit more clear to her as to why he felt so hostile over them.
“Classmates?” She assumed, her expression becoming more somber and serious. She had experienced a lot of things growing up in Corner Brook, but wards were the one thing that she hadn’t. In fact, if she were to be completely honest, she had actually used that exact thing against some of her classmates. But, half the school had declared war against her, and she had never been one to sit back and twiddle her thumbs.
Alida’s mahogany gaze shifted to the ginger when he abruptly darted down the stairs. “Oh, my escort is here…! I have to go now,” He called after them, turning around a few feet down the sidewalk to bid them a goodbye. However, his hasty departure toward his ride faltered when he realized that he hadn’t introduced himself and neither had he gotten her name.
“I-I’m sorry, what’s your name? Mine’s Alfonse.”
Alida and Ivory both ventured down the remainder of stairs and began down the same path as him, catching up to him in mere seconds as she answered; “Alida.” Her gaze lifted from Alfonse and toward the sleek, black, car who had pulled up at the front of the school, and the sight along with the boy referring to it as his “escort” had both of her brows raising high.
“Well, it was nice meeting you, Alfonse.” She returned coolly, lifting one of her hands to press it against her forehead, and then gave a casul, dismissive, salute.
“See you tomorrow,” Ivory added with a wave, and then her and Alida headed off down the sidewalk while Alfonse would presumably head to his escort.
At first the girl seemed rather pissed but faltered after hearing her explanation of what had happened. “Don’t worry about it, I guess I overreacted in assuming you had flung your drink on me on purpose.” She admitted, and Alida was actually shocked. That showed clearly on her face as she stared at her from beside the public restroom’s sinks. What? That was the most ridiculous thing she had ever —
“Are you sure?” Evelyn brightened up considerably by her offer, however, and looked genuinely appreciative that she had been kind enough to offer money for a replacement. Alida simmered down. After all, it had been a kind of crazy thing to happen. She wasn’t even sure why the guy had attacked her, if it had been him at all. The only thing that made sense to her was prejudice, but reapers generally weren’t prejudice against demons. “I mean you really don’t have to do it, I mostly just didn’t want to wear it.”
“Yeah, I mean, I did literally ruin your pants, unintentional or not.” Alida pointed out and brought one of her hands to the back of her neck, cringing again at the damage of both of their drinks combined. “Hell, if you want, we can go get something right now at the shop next door.” She added, but then belatedly wondered if that was a bit much. There was a difference between offering cash and offering to tag along.
She hadn’t meant it like some sort of hang out session, it had simply slipped from her mouth because the girl said she didn’t want to be stuck in them. It was completely understandable. She would have offered her a spare if she had one, but she wasn’t in the habit of toting extra clothes around.
However, Ginger’s attention had been drawn elsewhere as he looked out toward the parking lot while they headed down the steps of the high school’s front entrance. It took him a moment, but he seemed to do a double-take when he finally realized that her question had been directed at him. Her smile widened, her eyebrows both arched, as she gave him a look that made it clear she had caught his blunder. Still, his response was surprising but felt genuine enough for her to continue to question the lifestyle of Lorsette.
“It was all right. Alchemy was the most fun. Ivory and I are going to work on a potion together.” He revealed and Alida could see the detail of enthusiasm he had over the subject. He had to be a Freshman all sparkling eyes and filled with wander. A sidelong glance toward Ivory had the white-haired teen huffing and squeezing her stack of books more closely to her chest.
“See?” Ivory pointed out knowingly. “I told you. Lorsette is different.”
With that cryptic remark, Alida straightened and crossed her arms over her chest, giving a light hmm in contemplation of her remark. Would she have really been accepted in the high school if she had grown up in Lorsette? Maybe Corner Brook really had been a hell hole; literally.
I'm perfectly fine with this thread being on the shorter side with Alfonse heading off for his ride and then they can meet up again in the next thread. ^^
“Well she’s clearly not those demons so let her out,” Nicolas snapped at the guy and the teen worker gave the two of them a dirty look, clearly annoyed by the way they were treating him, but perhaps unable to really speak up on his own behalf. Alida didn’t feel as though she were treating him poorly — it was just an annoying situation.
“I’ll take it down for you, miss, just have to retrieve the ladder.” He mumbled with a bit of begrudging as he headed off. With a heavy sigh, Alida placed the jacket back onto a nearby rack of clothing and then folded her arms across her chest, looking rather annoyed as they waited for the worker to return with a ladder.
She was more annoyed about not being able to shop at the store and get the things she had wanted, than by the actual barrier that had been erected. The kid seemed to have a good enough excuse for its reasoning for being up.
With an exasperated sigh, she let out an aggravated huff and ruffled her hand through her hair. “Well, whatever. Thanks for happening by.” She offered Nicolas with a shrug of her shoulders, but suddenly grinned as she thought back to their previous encounter. “And sticking up for me.”
“Sorry, this stuff pisses me off.” Nicolas provided and Alida straightened, holding onto the hanger of the jacket she had in one hand while she rubbed the back of her neck with her other. She could certainly understand why stuff like this pissed him off, but this was kind of problematic for her as well. After all, she was supposed to be a demon and this barrier was supposed to keep her out of the shop. Well damn.
“Hey, what the hell you trying to pull?!” Her “friend” here abruptly yelled at one of the store workers as he had been walking passed, and the commotion immediately brought the teenager over to the entranceway. He took one look at her, and her protruding horns, and looked completely aghast with shock.
“Hey wait a minute…??” He pointed at her, mouth agape. “How did you…?” His finger and gaze trailed upward toward the charm, and Alida felt her heart plummet into her stomach.
“Must of fritzed out at some point,” She pointed out, raising her hand up in annoyance and exasperation. “—Why the hell do you have a demon barrier up, anyway!?” She grew accusatory, bringing her sharp mahogany gaze down onto the kid.
He clearly cowered and flinched, taking a hesitant step backward. “There’s been a group of demons lately raiding the store. The owner decided to put it up as protection,” He defended, raising both of his hands to motion toward the trinket.
“Alida.” The sound of her name being called drew Alida’s attention away from the jacket she had pulled off of the rack, and she turned her mahogany gaze toward the entranceway of the clothing store. Both of her eyebrows rose high on her forehead when she spotted the familiar features of a dirty blond teenager she had met a few weeks prior. He looked slightly different in his attire of choice, his clothes actually matching more of what she considered to be her style. Although, for some reason he looked pissed?
Uncertainty came over her features, a wayward smile peeking up at one edge of her mouth as she raised one of her hands to give a ‘hey’ in greeting. But, it looked as though he had something intense to say, and it churned her stomach somewhat, her features beginning to harden with the idea of it having some sort of association to her species. “You might want to have a word with the owner,” He told her as he motioned toward the top of the entranceway, and he seemed pretty pissed about whatever it was that he was going on about.
She found herself curious enough to venture over, her gaze darting upward and toward the ceiling of the entranceway where she was finally able to spot what looked to be a common charm used in…….. Alida’s face noticeably paled — a demon ward. Thank Volos she was born to a demon family (minus her mother), or otherwise she wouldn’t have the knowledge and experience to decipher these things.
“Shit,” She blurted, her gaze flickering down to Nicolas who was “safe” on the other side. “When did that get there?”
“Remember what I told you…!” Nicolas interrupted, and Alida went quiet just to stand tall, place her hands on her hips, and smirk at him. “Everyone is dangerous even me, so stop joking around so much with strangers.” He actually chastised her, causing Alida’s expression to soften somewhat, but it didn’t stop her from still giving him a dismissive wave, as though she had decided he was no threat at all.
“Do you want me to walk you home or not?” He demanded, and Alida hesitated for a moment, taking in a deep breath of the crisp night air. She looked around the area, the headlights on the cars, and the illumination from the streetlights.
“No, Nicolas, I don’t need you to walk me home.” She decided after a long pause, and finally brought her mahogany gaze back to him, her hands slipping into the pockets of her black jeans. “I’m a big girl, I’ll be fine.” She didn’t want the responsibility of him becoming more than just a random guy she met at the park one time. If she showed him where she currently lived, that could open up the opportunity for them to meet up again. As far as she was concerned, she’d probably never run into him again. Lorsette was a large city and dense in population.
She gave him a smile, and even extended her hand for a handshake. “But, it was nice meeting you. What a wild, crazy, night we had.”
“You…!” Nicolas actually became so frazzled and tongue-tied by her joke that it actually caught Alida off guard. “No, I just, I don’t know!” He really had no idea, did he? Suddenly, the dirty blond was launching off of the bench, and Alida just burst out laughing by that point, her eyes following him with mirth and incredulousness. “Now just for that I’m walking you home, come on.”
“That doesn’t really help your case!” She managed to get out through her laughter, her eyes actually tearing up as she stood from the bench and had to place one of her hands on her stomach because, damn, the laughing actually made it hurt.
“Wow, what I would give to have taken a picture of that,” She continued on, wiping at her eyes a bit. She set her sharp pair of eyes onto him and then abruptly jumped back, pretending to be him, her face aghast and red with embarrassment; “What! No! I don’t know! Maybe?? Just shut up, I’m taking you home!” She mimicked a ‘manly’ voice, and most of the bitterness and anger, if not all, had completely flitted away.
Nicolas laughed and Alida’s smirk only widened as he commented on how she still obviously had plenty of fight left in her. The joking aside, though; she actually didn’t. She was seriously exhausted, in the sapped-of-all-power sort of way, but she wasn’t going to admit that to anyone.
The conversation took a serious tone, however, when Nicolas brought up the fact that he didn’t find her concerns paranoia at all. Although his comment made them like-minded, Alida couldn’t help the dark thoughts that loomed over her like a thick cloud. A lot of the demons who had attended Corner Brook highschool had probably been just like this guy. If they hadn’t of been so goddamn prejudice, then this could have been her life. Joking, laughing, having a casual conversation. Actually getting along, making friends.
Tch. Soured her mood right up. This whole thing was starting to piss her off, as it was just a reminder of what could have been hers, but never would be. Unless she wanted to live her whole life under the veil of a lie.
“But hey… did you want me to walk you home or… is that too weird?”
Her smile came back, although this time there was a hint of malice within it as she socked him another good punch right at the exact same area on his arm, her smile broadening with perhaps a inkling of sadism.
“Anywhere can be dangerous if you don’t keep your guard up. I’ve lived on both sides, and can tell you it all sucks.” The dirty blond responded, and Alida had to admit that it made her curious as to what he was referring to. But, then again, she wasn’t even really sure why she was talking about all of this. How had this conversation even come up? She really was too tired for her own good.
“But hey, you got nothing to worry about though, anyone who f***s with you is as good as dead,” He unexpectedly joked, a large smirk spreading across his features as he gave her a sidelong glance, and Alida actually laughed. His statement had been funny, and she took it as a compliment.
“Hopefully,” She replied rather modestly, her expression sombering somewhat as her laughter faded. “Glad to know I’m not just paranoid or something,” She added in an attempt to lighten the mood, and with a bloom of her own grin, she reached over and playfully punched Nicolas in the shoulder.
The cocked eyebrow hadn’t gone unnoticed to Alida, although it was easily dismissable when he turned her comment into a joke. “...I take it that isn’t one of Lorsette’s strong points with you?” ‘With you’ insinuated that he didn’t feel the same way as her statement, and Alida remembered her mother and Mrs. Shephard’s words about Lorsette being “different”. Although, that thought didn’t make much sense in relation to this guy, considering he had just moved here. Unless he had sought out Lorsette for that very reason.
“I don’t believe in this whole utopia bullshit Lorsette has going on.” Alida stated rather intensely, with a serious expression, as she stared Nicolas down. “Earth and Heaven are always on one side and the Hell and Undead on the other. Lorsette just feels more dangerous with how many different species there are, rather than the haven everyone keeps spouting about.”
She couldn’t believe that she had spent all day out at this maze. Looking out at the road before them, the street light’s had actually turned on to illuminate the parking lot and sidewalk, and the sun had all but set by this point. She hadn’t even noticed how late it had actually gotten.
“I’m new too. Not sure I expected to meet someone else like that,” The dirty blond demon commented with a twinge of awkwardness resurfacing. Offhandedly, Alida wondered if this was what conversation between two demons was like? Was this what Felicia experienced? Could demon men actually be… awkward around other hell-related women? The thought was souring, because she had never been able to experience it. She wondered what kind of expression this guy would make if she revealed what she was to him. It’d wipe that awkwardness clean off that pretty little face of his.
“Yeah, well, I think that’s the point of Lorsette,” She managed to keep her tone casual and the conversation going, despite her inner thoughts. “It’s a melting pot of ‘diversity’.”
