Welcome to The Duality of Man, an original animanga role-play that features numerous supernatural creatures. Unfortunately, these various species have distanced themselves because of the war that occurred thousands of years ago, plaguing some with eyes that only see their dualism. While others meddle themself with their differences, two groups fight, each attempting to eliminate the other in for their definition of worldly peace. These two groups of the Terror Response Syndicate (TRS) and the Assembly of Phantoms (AP). With individuals fighting merely over their differences, it brings uncertainty to the outcome of this war.
We happily accept all role-players as long as they obey the rules and are capable of meeting our word count of 50. This does include those who are unfamiliar with this style of role-playing. The staff of The Duality of Man are willing to happily help those who are new to the role-playing world so they feel comfortable on site. Feel free to message the staff if you need help, they can be found here or in the site Discord and will gladly answer questions alongside calm concerns. If you have any suggestions we would love to hear them; guests may use the support board as a suggestion area as well. Should you decide to join, may I say welcome to the site and we all hope you enjoy your time here.
Yours Truely,
The Staff

Summer 2024
Heat has broken through into a glorious summer. The snow has entirely dried through the spring, leaving to the brilliance of the warmer months. Terror activity has risen as people are brought out of their homes, leaving the TRS in a position of consistent work. Each are attempting to maintain victory in the endless struggle for power.
Since the wonderful members of TDOM enjoy the site enough to play around on it, this thread is to assist with the site's tidying! Functionality is important and we want to make the site functional even if its activity will be minimal at best!

rendon remained compliant for only a moment as Josuah agreed to his demand and stepped forward to reach out for him. But, as soon as he realized what he was doing, Brendon’s expression instantly soured. “I can do it myself,” He complained and shoo’d Josuah’s hands away from him, drawing his own legs up onto the bed. He scooted toward his pillow and drew the comforter blanket out from under him while Josuah reassured him that he would be quick.
“Fine,” He pouted, but did lower down, pressing his head into the plushness of his pillow, and brought the covers up to his chin as he peered up with narrowed eyes at his… familiar. Looking at him, though, suddenly caused him to grin and even laugh. “Wow, you’re mouth is even more red than mine!” His grin flashed his teeth, which were also stained in red. “You look like a lobster!” He teased deviously, and looked quite proud of himself afterward.

rendon was surprised when Josuah reached down to pick up both raspberries and blackberries by the handful and stuff them into his mouth. He ate them all, until there was nothing left, and then scrambled onto his knees and reached over to grab him and also hoist him up from the floor. “Wha,” Brendon began, clearly baffled, but his voice trailed off as he was sat down onto the edge of his bed.
“There I ate, now I have to take my bath,” Josuah all but demanded, and Brendon just balked at him for a long moment of silence.
“You have to tell me when you find it,” Brendon finally answered, because he knew that he was too weak to go with him. His mother had told Josuah already where the bathroom was located, but Brendon had wanted to take him there himself. However, with as weak as he was feeling, he knew that it… wasn’t going to happen.
A sigh of disappointment passed through his mouth as he slouched in his posture from where he was seated. “You can do that since we can communicate in our heads,” He reminded his familiar, just in case he had been a bit confused about how he was going to tell him.

osuah reached up to steady his hand, drawing it away from his face as he moodily told him don’t. Another hiccup of a laugh escaped Brendon as he was given a full view of his familiar’s face, and his lips partially now stained with red lipstick. Briefly, he wondered if that was what he looked like, but he still didn’t understand why Josuah had gotten so embarrassed about it. He could still feel a whirlwind of emotions coming from him, and with so much going on it was difficult to decipher everything. It also didn’t help that he was so tired. He could barely focus on anything, to be honest. His mind felt like it was floating away on him.
“We’ll… get in trouble if we both get too messy,” Josuah chastised him, and Brendon immediately pouted in retaliation. “I should take my bath now.”
“You only ate two blackberries!” Brendon instantly complained, and quite loudly at that, chastising him quite powerfully in return as his cheeks swelled with the heat of annoyance!

“
W-Why is your face like that?!” Josuah practically shouted at him, and Brendon noticeably stiffened, his amber gaze widening with surprise. He could feel the familiar’s emotions coming to life inside of him, and he didn’t understand why he suddenly felt so panicked. “Your mouth is all red!” Josuah accused and lifted his hands to shield his eyes away from the sight of him, embarrassment flooding his body, causing his face to turn red.
It was difficult to feel cheeky and confident when he also felt so many of Josuah’s emotions simultaneously. But, he really wanted to! He didn’t even understand what the big deal was, or why he had become so embarrassed about it. But, suddenly, a wild idea flashed through his mind, and he was grinning, while his heart pounded a bit quickly within his chest.
Grabbing a rather large raspberry out of the bunch he purposely squeezed until its juice began to protrude to the surface, and then with a devious laugh, he moved forward to begin wiping it all over the wolf familiar’s mouth, effectively staining him in red as well.

osuah reached out to take some blackberries from the tray and Brendon decided to be a bit more greedier in his own selection. He picked up a cracker and packed it with deli meat, cheese, and a tomato slice before stuffing it into his mouth. Only after he had eaten a few more did he turn to the raspberries on the platter, picking up a handful to stuff into his mouth as well. When he drew his hand away and finally sat back, fed and satiated, the juice of the berries had permanently stained his entire mouth area red.
When Josuah tentatively picked out a second blackberry to eat, Brendon finally took notice of his apparent lack of appetite, or manners, and gave him a face. “You have to eat more than two berries,” He openly complained.
and didn’t hesitate to make the familiar the same cracker, cheese, meat, and tomato mixture he had previously put together for himself. “And you still have to take a bath too,” He reminded him further, his cheeks lightly puffed out with annoyance.

rendon took up a pair of binoculars and brought them to the lone window that framed the western wall of the failing structure. A smirk pressed into his features, a light scoff escaping him, as he peered out the mildew covered glass, feeling confident in his escape techniques. Damarian couldn’t have possibly followed him this far out into the forest, and unlike Skylar, the raven-haired male had never been told of their secret hideout’s location.
“Meow,” the loud wail of a cat quickly caught the brunette’s attention, and the swift upward movement of the binoculars swept across a large, blurry and black blob. It wasn’t until he drew away from the lens, amber eyes squinting through the filth of the window, that he realized what he had seen must have been a cat. Placing the binoculars down, Brendon stepped out and rounded the corner, stopping just before the base of an oak tree.
“Shh,” He immediately chastised, although a large grin had spread across his features. “You’re going to give me away. I’ll save you, don’t worry.”
A minute later he returned with a chair and propped it against the tree. Stepping up onto it provided him the leverage he needed to grab a thick branch and hoist himself up. Cats weren’t uncommon on the premises, often wandering the kitchen and stables, and were mostly used for pest control. But, this was definitely the first time he had come across one that had ventured all the way out here, and only to get stuck in a tree!
“How did you know about my secret base?” He interrogated jokingly once he had situated himself, and then tentatively reached out to let the black cat sniff his hand before he moved to pet it on its head and back.

“
I’ve never met a fourteen year old who acts as weak and as childish as you,” the raven-haired boy taunted, dark eyes narrow, with his lips drawn in thin line. It was Sunday morning, after mass, and the two of them had gotten into yet another disagreement. Damarian Matthews had decided to speak his mind as soon as he, Brendon, and Skyler had been left to their own devices at the playground. “If you’re even capable of receiving a familiar, I’ll sure feel sorry for them. But then again, I won’t even have to, because they’ll already be feeling sorry enough for themselves.”
Face red with anger, Brendon silently seethed over Damarian's words, his hands balled into two tight fists at his sides. Long ago, when they had been much smaller, he had once considered the boy to be his friend. But over the last few years it had become increasingly more apparent that they weren’t and may have never been.
Overhead the overcast skies rumbled briefly before a bolt of lightning cracked in a downward arch and instantly struck Damarian where he stood. The simultaneous crash of thunder and startled yell from his cousin caused Brendon to physically jerk, his amber gaze widening, as he realized what he had unconsciously done.
“You little sh**!” The boy seethed, storming forward, as he flung both hands out to summon his own power of weather manipulation in one, and heal himself in the other.
Brendon turned and ran; bolted from the playground, jumping out of the way of a lightning strike Damarian summoned down, and dashed straight into the thick coverage of the Calico forest. With his heart pounding in his chest, he darted passed trees, bushes, and high overgrowths. Every time he looked back, Damarian’s form grew more distant until eventually he couldn’t see him at all.
Brendon all but collapsed against a nearby tree as he sucked in one harsh breath after another. He hadn’t meant to strike him with lightning — he had no control over his weather powers! But, either way, he was certainly glad it had happened. Damarian could really piss him off sometimes, always acting as though he were so much better than him. So much stronger, and more mature, and worthy within the Matthews family household. He didn’t care that Damarian was the 2nd family and he was the 3rd. He didn’t care that he had two Nephilim parents who were more closely related to their great grandfather Fergus, or that they lived in a larger and more wealthier portion of the manor.
“Maybe you’ll leave when you get your familiar,” He huffed out hoarsely, his breathing still harsh as he pushed from the tree and began to make his way deeper into the forest. “Then I won’t have to see your really ugly face anymore,” He snickered and picked up a nearby fallen branch, swinging it at the bushes and the trunks of trees as he ventured.
Eventually he came to his destination; a tiny and abandoned shack, with sections of its exterior destroyed and left open to the elements. Brendon stepped in through a large gap in one of the walls, forgetting about the pinecones he had hung from the ceiling, suspended by strings. Knocking into a few caused them to plummet to the splintered floorboards and vegetation overgrowth that was the floor.
“Oops,” He muttered and bent to pick them up, then ventured over to a table that harbored a dozen or so he hadn’t yet hung. He placed them down beside them and a gas lantern he generally used to light the interior. But, this morning the sun shone perfectly through all of the cracks and crevices, leaving it well lit on its own.

“
B-Brendon,” Josuah didn’t sound too happy, but he grabbed onto him nonetheless to awkwardly pull him forward until he was half resting against his chest. The sensation of his body was a bit strange and embarrassing, but mostly Brendon just didn’t feel… very good, so having his contact was comforting. “You’re very bad. I want to see you strong.”
“I am strong,” Brendon slurred, somehow managing to pout even now, feeling grumpy, with his cheeks tinted with pink. “You… You just have a lot that needs to be fixed,” He added as a cheeky afterthought, but then paused to take a deep breath.
The dizziness had slowly ebbed away and his stomach was beginning to growl, so he felt… enthusiastic… for food. He drew back slowly and flashed Josuah another grin, reaching to bring the platter of food down into his lap. It would be easier for the two of them to access there.
“I’m starving, let’s eat.” He said, feeling content. He enjoyed how he was seated beside his familiar with their shoulders and arms touching, and the platter balanced on both of their legs between them.

rendon could feel Josuah’s reluctance to talk about it. He could feel the heavy and looming emotions that were most likely weighing down against him now, as he stared off at nothing in particular for a moment, silence stretching out within the bedroom. As Brendon watched him, still tired, and his gaze hooded, he began to feel a different sensation; a feeling of loneliness. Of desolation.
“Someone wanted me to be their familiar,” Josuah revealed to him, but as he did so, Brendon leaned forward and placed his hand atop his own. “I refused… and then they cursed me.”
It was difficult, and probably really stupid to do, since he had so little energy, but he used what little he had to ‘bless’ good feelings into him. To hopefully make him feel warm, and protected, and with him now, instead of lonely, cold, and desolate. Not so surprisingly, as he bestowed it upon Josuah, he could feel the strain on himself, and the way a sudden bout of dizziness suddenly swept across his body and made him feel very disoriented for a minute.

o Brendon’s immense relief, his familiar did not fight him this time and actually turned back into his human form right away. Brendon couldn’t help but stare this time, as he was being given his very first glimpse of how it happened. It was a rather quick transformation, with the golden wolf being illuminated within a gentle glow, slowly fading, until Josuah actually appeared within him, as a full and solid human, seated on the ground next to his bedside.
Although Josuah looked young, Brendon could tell that he was still older than him. He didn’t look like a child, but he didn’t look like an adult either; he was somewhere in between. While Brendon felt, and had been told quite a few times, that at fourteen he still looked… pretty much like a kid. It was annoying.
“Do you think I’m weird?” Josuah asked him, surprisingly, and Brendon wasn’t really sure where the question had come from. The golden haired boy seemed to be frowning down at his hands and legs, and Brendon found himself once again wondering… what his curse had been, and why he looked like… like he had been homeless and beaten up.
“No,” Brendon answered him pretty easily, because he honestly didn’t think he was weird at all. But, he did take the opportunity to slip off of the edge of the bed and plop down onto the floor directly beside Josuah, flashing him a cheeky smile afterward.
“But, I want to know what happened to you,” He added after a moment, his smile sobering. “Why were you cursed?”

he sight of the food that had been brought to them reminded Brendon of how hungry he was. He immediately felt like there was a giant hole where his stomach used to be, and as though he hadn’t eaten all day. Glancing outside of his bedroom window, he could tell from the blackness of the night just how late it was. His mother had also made a comment about the time and had already told them that she expected them to be in bed, and going to sleep, in an hour from now. Brendon wasn’t opposed to the disciplinary bedtime, because it was already in the middle of the night, with everyone else asleep, and he was exhausted to begin with. His main concern, mostly, was the fact that he wanted Josuah to be able to take a bath, and he also wanted to… heal him.
‘...Which is your favorite?’ Josuah’s voice swelled within his mind, taking over all of his thoughts and attention, and he abruptly felt that same embarrassed sort of invasion of his person, which immediately caused him to pout in a grumpy and flustered manner.
“Y-You should turn back into your human form, now that we… we have a whole hour to ourselves,” He retorted a little indignantly, stuffing his nose into the air with a soft humph parting from his throat.

rendon watched as Josuah turned back into his large, golden, wolf, and the moment he saw him approach he immediately filled with a deep longing for him. He opened his arms for him and purposely leaned forward, sinking down to press his chest against the top of his head and delve his fingers deep into his thick, soft, fur. ‘Don’t cry… I’m not going to be taken away from you,’ Josuah soothed, his voice deep as it filled the recesses of his mind. Brendon accepted the sound, accepted Josuah. He felt both upset and frustrated with his mother, and still didn’t understand why they were making such a big deal out of things. Josuah was his familiar. Why couldn’t things just be as simple as that?
“We’ll be back in a bit, Brendon.” His mother addressed him after a moment. Brendon didn’t look up at her and kept his eyes closed, remaining where he was, hugging his wolf familiar. He still felt moody with her, but she was trying to be nicer now. “I’ll… bring you both something to eat. And,” She was hesitant as she spoke, but offered; “I think it would also be a good idea to let your… friend… take a bath. I’ll… fetch him some clean clothes to wear.”
Brendon looked to her then, drawing his head up, and his amber eyes falling onto his mother. A large smile spread across his features, his heart warming and squeezing with hopefulness. “Y-You will? You think so? I, I think so too!”
She gave him a smile that was clearly strained, and a nod of her head, before her and Judith turned to leave his bedroom, closing the door behind them.

“
Stop upsetting him!” Josuah’s voice suddenly filled the cavity of his bedroom and caused Brendon to struggle within his mother’s hold until he was able to draw back enough to look toward him. A few feet away from the foot of his bed, he could see him seated on the ground, looking both angry and upset, in his tattered clothing and his wounds. “I’m his familiar! I’m his protector!”
His mother must have seen the same things as him, because her expression strained. The distraught and fear that had been apart of her lessened considerably as she took in his withered and youthful form, and heard his childlike voice, and the way he fell into a coughing fit afterward.
“He’s my familiar, mom,” Brendon suddenly spoke up, his own voice hoarse as tears began to well within his eyes and he looked on the verge of tears. Surprisingly, her arms loosened around him, and allowed him to draw away. But, as he tried to stand from the bed, and his weakness became apparent, she quickly thought better of her judgement, immediately standing up to grab him and sit him down once more.
“It’s all right. I understand,” She tried to coax instead, her hand resting atop his head as she drew away and looked to her friend, Judith, with an expression struck with her internal conflict. “Akari, Judith, he’s just a child,” She whispered with clear distraught, and the two of them exchanged a hushed moment of words.

osuah’s feelings abruptly bombarded him, making even Brendon feel frazzled, as though his hair was standing on end, as the faint spark of electricity traveled through him. The wolf’s emotions were powerful — and surprising, causing Brendon’s gaze to immediately rivet onto him, even before the low grow of agitation began to emanate from his throat. H-He was… angry with the thought of his family trying to force him to bind with another familiar.
Josuah’s aggressive behavior, and his bristled fur, easily garnered the attention of both his mother and her friend. Brendon could feel his mom tense and her hold against him tighten, as though she felt that he was in danger. She didn’t trust him at all, but he didn’t have an understanding of it. He didn’t understand why everyone was being so tense and acting as though Josuah were some sort of criminal.
“What is it you want from my son?” His mom actually spoke up in an accusing manner as she addressed Josuah completely, her hold on him still tight, and Brendon felt that same uncomfortable ball of emotion swell up within him… a-at her accusing him, at her looking down on him, thinking he was a bad guy. Or that he had nefarious plans. “What are you trying to do!?” She sounded a little desperate, her voice raising, and Brendon actually found himself being pulled protectively into her embrace again as she held him away from him.

e could feel Josuah’s warmth and his emotion as it ebbed into his small body and encased his heart. But, he wasn’t able to linger, or focus on it, because his mother was immediately questioning him more over everything he had proclaimed. “Why did you remove his curse? Did he ask you to do it? Was it because he was hurt and you felt the need to help him?” His mother asked him carefully, her solemn attention resting on him.
Brendon felt a little taken aback by her question. At the time, he hadn’t really… needed a reason. “He didn’t ask me. He wouldn’t talk to me, I thought maybe he couldn’t.” He stated with a bit of a frown. “I didn’t know that he was hurt at the time. I didn’t know that until later, after I woke up.”
His mother still looked troubled, and even a little confused, as she continued to stare down at him. But, after a moment, she did happen to glance back toward Josuah, to look him over. “Do you know him?” She asked him next, her light brown gaze coming back to him. “Has he visited you before?”
Brendon shook his head, his brows coming down together, as he began to grow a bit frustrated with his mom’s questions. “No. He… —He’s my familiar! I, I picked him! You told me I had to pick one, and, and — I want him!” He added, growing more frustrated toward the end, his expression reflecting the anger and aggression he felt over the strange tension that filled the room.
“Okay, sweety, calm down, you’re still recovering,” His mother immediately tried to soothe. “No one’s saying he isn't. We’re just trying to figure out what happened.”
