Welcome to The Duality of Man, an original animanga role-play that features numerous supernatural creatures. Unfortunately, these various species have distanced themselves because of the war that occurred thousands of years ago, plaguing some with eyes that only see their dualism. While others meddle themself with their differences, two groups fight, each attempting to eliminate the other in for their definition of worldly peace. These two groups of the Terror Response Syndicate (TRS) and the Assembly of Phantoms (AP). With individuals fighting merely over their differences, it brings uncertainty to the outcome of this war.
We happily accept all role-players as long as they obey the rules and are capable of meeting our word count of 50. This does include those who are unfamiliar with this style of role-playing. The staff of The Duality of Man are willing to happily help those who are new to the role-playing world so they feel comfortable on site. Feel free to message the staff if you need help, they can be found here or in the site Discord and will gladly answer questions alongside calm concerns. If you have any suggestions we would love to hear them; guests may use the support board as a suggestion area as well. Should you decide to join, may I say welcome to the site and we all hope you enjoy your time here.
Yours Truely,
The Staff

Summer 2024
Heat has broken through into a glorious summer. The snow has entirely dried through the spring, leaving to the brilliance of the warmer months. Terror activity has risen as people are brought out of their homes, leaving the TRS in a position of consistent work. Each are attempting to maintain victory in the endless struggle for power.
Since the wonderful members of TDOM enjoy the site enough to play around on it, this thread is to assist with the site's tidying! Functionality is important and we want to make the site functional even if its activity will be minimal at best!

rendon could understand that Skyler meant well, and that his words were born from concern. But, still, hearing the older boy refer to him as the runt of their group was annoying. He didn’t really consider himself to be apart of a group, anyway. And, on top of that, it wasn’t like he went out of his way to provoke Damarian. In fact, it was the complete opposite! He wasn’t sure why Damarian had turned on him within the last few years, but now he had become little more than a thorn in his side.
Without warning, the black cat surprised both of them; leaping to his pant leg it swatted, in what seemed to be a playful manner, at Skyler’s hand. The sound that escaped its mouth caused Brendon to wonder if he had actually been wrong about it being apart of the kitchen staff’s cat hunters. The mannerisms of the feline, the way it meowed, and played with them, was much more reminiscent of a house cat.
“What a pretty girl we have here,” Skyler joked through a laugh as he picked the feline up into his arms, handling it a lot more… er, unapprehensively than Brendon had. The sight was actually kind of surprising. He hadn’t known that Skyler had liked cats so much, but he could clearly see that now. The red-head had begun to cradle the cat in his arms, her belly exposed, as he roughly started to pet her head, and ears, and front of her face, occasionally alternating down to her belly. “Aren’t ya? Aren’t yah?” He grinned, and Brendon felt an apprehensive nervousness beginning to swell within his stomach.
“D-Do you… uhm, know who she belongs to?” He asked, thinking he must have f-for how friendly he was being with her.

rendon drew from his thoughts when Josuah spoke up against his previous boastful remarks, telling him rather adamantly that he didn’t want to be pampered because he wasn’t a child. Hearing him say as much suddenly caused a broad grin to spread across his face, even as Josuah straightened and looked down at him from his impressively taller height. “I’m the one who is suppose to take care of you. I don’t want it any other way,” His familiar continued on stubbornly, and Brendon just continued to grin.
However, their moment together was interrupted again by his mom as she opened the door and stepped inside. Her features still held the softness from before she had left and for some reason, as she stepped inside, that gentle and appreciative look first seemed to go to Josuah. She closed the door behind her and moved toward them to hand him the clothes she had collected.
“Here you are,” She murmured, but didn’t pause for long, instead placing her hand on Brendon’s shoulder to guide him over toward the vanity set that was beyond the wall divider. “We need to do something with this hair,” She lightly fussed, and Brendon clearly pouted as he went, sending Josuah a mad look, because he was thinking about how he didn’t wanted to be treated like a child, either!
“Josuah’s hair looks crazy!” He openly complained as he was sat down within the chair in front of the vanity, and she began to comb through his wild and messy locks.
“Yes, well, we’ll get to that after yours,” His mom lightly chastised in return.

rendon drew away from the divider when Josuah ended up glancing away from him and mumbling about accepting his version of the story. He finished dressed quickly because there had only been a pair of dark blue jeans left to put on.
“Of course I saved your life,” He replied a moment later as he stepped out from behind the wall divider, now clad in a yellow and gray long sleeve top and blue jeans. He proudly marched his way over to where Josuah was still seated at the edge of his bed. “And I healed some of your bruises and wounds, and I made you get clean and have brand new clothes.” He pointed out boldly.
Brendon was reminded of their earlier conversation, though, and it sobered him somewhat. He didn’t understand why they had to go and speak with his grandfather. But, generally anything that involved him was never… good. It usually meant he was in trouble…
“I don’t know what’s going to happen when we go see my grandfather,” Brendon continued, and brought a hand through his own hair, looking a bit baffled and worried. “My mom seems worried about it, too…”

o Brendon’s astonishment, while he was getting dressed, Josuah actually continued to insist that he had fainted! “You fainted because you were reckless,” Josuah adamantly replied, and Brendon’s little angry face found its way popping up over the divider that separated them from view.
“I fell asleep because I saved your life!” Brendon stood by his original claim, even if it was a bit over exaggerated. One of his arms came up over the partition as well as he pulled it through the long sleeve shirt he was putting on and continued to glower in mutiny across the room at his disobedient familiar!

“
I know…,” Josuah revealed. “I met him after you fainted…”
Brendon’s face immediately turned a bright red when Josuah dared to mention him in such a way! “I didn’t faint!” He immediately argued. “I fell asleep!”
He tossed the formal dress shirt and vest he had been wearing onto the vanity desk in front of him and began to get into his new pair of clothes.

is mother picked out a different outfit for him and was fretting over the impending meeting with his grandfather, mumbling out something about his messy hair a moment before she turned to head across the room. “I’ll return shortly with some clothes for you… um,” She paused as she clearly could not recall his name, and Brendon immediately jerked his gaze over his shoulder and huffily provided it; “Mom!” He chastised, a bit red in the face. “He’s my familiar! And his name is Josuah!”
Brendon’s outburst actually caused her to smile, however briefly, and the look had softened her features. “Yes, Josuah…,” She repeated, but her mind was elsewhere as she turned to head out. “I’ll be back with those clothes.”
Brendon frowned as he took the clothes that had been handed to him over behind the wall partition. “My grandfather is the head of the entire Matthews household,” He supplied and peeked his head around the end of the divider to pout at Josuah. “He’s not very easy to talk to…”

“
I… I was hugging him because he was healing me,” Josuah spoke out to explain further. “...I was thankful.” Both he and his mother looked to him, Brendon feeling embarrassed about the entire thing, and his mother still holding that somber look on her face. She seemed to notice the same thing he had about Josuah; that he actually looked a lot older than first impressions had eluded. She was somewhat surprised to see a much older, broader, and more masculine young man in the room, rather than the tattered boy she had witnessed last night. But, the revelation appeared to bother her, deepening the worry of her frown as she pulled her gaze away from him and looked to Brendon once more.
“I have… requested that the two of you speak with your grandfather,” She revealed, and Brendon immediately balked, his heart launching into his throat.
“Grandfather!” He exclaimed, and threw a fit over it. “B-But — why!”
“You have to convince him that your familiar isn’t a threat to our family,” She answered a bit evasively as she stepped forward and reached out to grasp onto his arm and draw him from the bed, ushering him over to a large dresser that held most of his clothing.

e hadn’t expected to hear a deep and animalistic growl from his familiar when he was in his human form. The sound was distinctly different, and less impactive, than the raw guttural growl of his wolf beast, but nonetheless it was surprisingly fierce and vibrated against Brendon’s body as he was held so tightly against him. However, as soon as Josuah realized that it was his mother who had opened the door, he noticeably attempted to settle down.
His mother looked both cautious and baffled by the scene, and Brendon was still feeling extremely embarrassed. Josuah’s hold against him loosened, and Brendon slowly drew away until they were at a more acceptable distance from one another. He could still feel the after-effects of healing him, and those weird sensations that had moved all throughout his body. Healing was weird.
“Did anything happen this morning?” August asked after she carefully closed the door behind her and turned to face the two younger boys. “There was a large flare of magical energy.” Brendon noticed right away that his mother wasn’t as chipper this morning. While last night she had grown more accustomed to Josuah, her features softening, this morning she seemed almost… gloomy.
“I scared my familiar awake by yelling his name, and he generated a huge shield around us, cause he thought I was being attacked,” Brendon admitted a bit sheepishly, lifting one of his hands to run his fingers through his messy brown hair.

t first, he got a little carried away, rushing as much of his energy from his body and into Josuah’s because he had been under the impression that his familiar would immediately try to stop him. The large burst of his essence that entered Josuah left him feeling strange, as though he were personally invading his body. Warmth bloomed across his form while Josuah seemed to melt underneath the sensation, not only allowing, but accepting his healing magic. It was a strange sensation, and very personal. It was something he had never done before, and that realization came with a bit of shock. Heat pooled thickly into his cheeks, his heart beating more quickly as his gaze lulled somewhat. Wh-Why had he always adamantly refused to heal others? He couldn’t remember right now, while in the process of it all.
Josuah surprised him when he reached down and wrapped his arms around him, drawing him up and away from the bed, and… a-and into his arms. The strange sensations had become too much, too powerful, and suddenly his power fizzled out, abruptly breaking the connection and leaving Brendon red in the face, warm in the body, and with a shiver rolling down his spine. He felt funny, weird… Maybe this was why he didn’t want to heal anyone else other than himself. I-It was far too… personal...!
The door to his bedroom opened at that very opportune time, his mother standing in the doorway and looking on at them with first apprehension and then surprise. Clearly shocked, and not expecting, to see him and Josuah hugging each other. Brendon was sure his face just became a full blown tomato then. He felt the most embarrassed he had ever felt in his entire life!

osuah looked even more impressively older than Skyler who, up until this point, had been the most mature-looking between him, Brendon, and Damarian. It wasn’t unusual for the familiars the Matthews family adolescents chose to be much older; most of them were actually adults. But, he had been under the false first impressions of Josuah looking much more closer in age to him. “...How are you feeling?” Josuah insisted, breaking through Brendon’s thoughts and causing his amber gaze to focus on his familiar’s face.
It was kind of strange, now that he realized Josuah was looming over top of him within the bed. As a wolf creature, it had felt completely natural, but having his human form hovering so closely was just… bizarre...!
“How am I feeling?” Brendon mirrored, a sudden grin springing to life across his face, looking quite devious as his gaze momentarily narrowed for a moment. He had noticed Josuah’s scars, his scratches, and bruises… but because the familiar could often read into emotions and feelings, he was trying to keep them as far away from him as possible!
“I’m…,” He tried to be devious and act, but he had already cracked a grin a second ago! Still, he wiped it away from his face and slowly lifted one of his hands. Josuah was already touching his forehead, but he didn’t think he was good enough yet to use that kind of contact. Instead, he shot both of his hands out to grasp onto his familiar’s arms, gripping them tightly, as he proclaimed; “... going to heal you!!”
He instantly began to try, wasting no time in surging his energy from his own body, through his hands, and into Josuah’s.

rendon watched as the faint glow of the shield dispersed and then Josuah proceeded to transform into his human form. At sixteen, his familiar was much larger than him in size, with a broad chest and shoulders, that became more apparent when in the pajama outfit his mother had set aside for him. His skin was a considerably lighter complexion now that all the dirt and grime had been rubbed clean, and the golden hue of his hair stood out in much the same way his wolf’s coat did.
“You look like a man,” Brendon openly complained with a giant frown, finding this newfound information bothersome. Yesterday, with his wild and messy hair, and his ridiculous outfit, he had looked more youthful in appearance. But, cleaned and adorned within proper attire, Josuah’s masculinity stood out like a… a beacon!

tartled by the golden wolf’s sudden snarl, Brendon’s gaze widened as he watched the beast lift up to bare his fangs to the unoccupied room. Josuah was much different in his beast form than his human. He was more ferocious and animal-like, appearing to be more of a terrifying animal than the boy he had come to know. But, what was probably the most surprising, was the surge of energy that blasted out and manifested as a large dome barrier around them, and Brendon immediately felt that a large portion of the Matthews household had probably also sensed the explosion of aggressive magic.
‘What happened?’ Josuah’s voice filled his mind a moment later, the piercing emerald of his wolf’s gaze finally lowering to him, and Brendon wanted to know the same thing.
“That’s what I would like to know,” Brendon returned, although he had lost most of his boldness. He stretched underneath Josuah and then lifted one of his hands to prod at the beast’s muzzle. “You’re a wolf again.”

hroughout the night Brendon had turned in his sleep to curl his smaller body around the much larger wolf-beast that also occupied his bed. His hands had somehow found their way into his fur, tangling within the much softer and clean coat, now that Josuah had taken his bath. Despite his movements, the boy had remained completely unconscious. Removing Josuah’s curse and bestowing him a blessing had taken all of the fourteen year old’s energy.
Dawn had bloomed over the horizon, filling the sky, at least a few hours ago. Sunlight poured in through his bedroom windows and the fireplace had long since spent its last bit of fuel. Outside, songbirds chirped and tweeted to one another, and it was ultimately the sensation of all of these things that finally roused Brendon from his slumber.
The first thing he saw when he opened his eyes, was the large and furry head of his familiar within his animal form. He strongly smelled of shampoo, his coat almost twinkling as light pooled over them. But, Brendon immediately frowned, in a pouting sort of way, and reached out to grasp tightly onto one of his ears, his other hand gripping at the fur of his cheek.
“Josuaaah…!” He instantly whined in a loud manner, throwing a fit.

smile softened Brendon’s features while he pet the black cat and enjoyed the quiet of the forest. Most of the manor cats had more wild tendencies and so it had been a long time since he’d last pet one. On the tree adjacent to their own a bundle of melting snow lost its grip, plunging through the tangled branches to fall to the ground below. It caught Brendon’s attention briefly, but then he spotted a familiar figure in the distance. The leftover patches of snow, which lined the forest floor, crunched beneath Skyler’s booted feet as he approached.
Brendon immediately scowled. “How did you find me!” He exclaimed, clearly annoyed, but in a pouting sort of way. Skyler, a red-head, who normally stood at least a foot taller than him, and held a much broader form, smirked as he stopped just underneath the tree he and the cat were perched within. “When do you ever run anywhere else?” he clearly joked.
“I run to plenty of places,” Brendon declared heatedly, but a smile broke passed his annoyance; at least for a second, until Skyler snickered and grabbed tight onto one of his sneakers.
“For as much as he deserves it, you can’t keep provoking Damarian like that, Brendon.” He said as he studied him with mild concern. “You’re the runt of the pack, even if you don’t want to be. You’re going to make yourself a target if you keep going on the way you do.”

“
Make sure you rest,” Josuah chastised him in return, choosing to ignore his playful comment. Brendon’s grin remained as Josuah picked up the tray of food and placed it down on a portion of the bed that wasn’t being used. But, when Josuah told him that he was leaving, and that he’d tell him when he was there, Brendon’s smile finally faded.
“All right,” He begrudgingly agreed and settled into the bed, underneath the warmth of the covers. The food had helped to satisfy the deep ache of hunger that had been gnawing away at his stomach, and underneath the covers of the bed he was left warm and cozy.
Brendon wasn’t even sure if he made it until Josuah had left the room; sleep happened so fast.
