Welcome to The Duality of Man, an original animanga role-play that features numerous supernatural creatures. Unfortunately, these various species have distanced themselves because of the war that occurred thousands of years ago, plaguing some with eyes that only see their dualism. While others meddle themself with their differences, two groups fight, each attempting to eliminate the other in for their definition of worldly peace. These two groups of the Terror Response Syndicate (TRS) and the Assembly of Phantoms (AP). With individuals fighting merely over their differences, it brings uncertainty to the outcome of this war.
We happily accept all role-players as long as they obey the rules and are capable of meeting our word count of 50. This does include those who are unfamiliar with this style of role-playing. The staff of The Duality of Man are willing to happily help those who are new to the role-playing world so they feel comfortable on site. Feel free to message the staff if you need help, they can be found here or in the site Discord and will gladly answer questions alongside calm concerns. If you have any suggestions we would love to hear them; guests may use the support board as a suggestion area as well. Should you decide to join, may I say welcome to the site and we all hope you enjoy your time here.
Yours Truely,
The Staff

Summer 2024
Heat has broken through into a glorious summer. The snow has entirely dried through the spring, leaving to the brilliance of the warmer months. Terror activity has risen as people are brought out of their homes, leaving the TRS in a position of consistent work. Each are attempting to maintain victory in the endless struggle for power.
Since the wonderful members of TDOM enjoy the site enough to play around on it, this thread is to assist with the site's tidying! Functionality is important and we want to make the site functional even if its activity will be minimal at best!
e could hear the pounding of his heart as he waited within the washroom. His eyes were wide, and he felt as though he couldn't breathe. For years he had been tormented with the knowledge that someone existed within the world that was his and now came the time for them to meet. Or that was what he believed...what he had been so certain of. But the attorney continued his speech and the room beyond the bathroom broke into an uproar with still no sign of Brendon.
Josuah had believed he would lose nothing by revealing something so personal to the boy. But now that he stood there alone...that emptiness began to eat away at him. His body trembled and he felt the prickling thought of being wrong...of having a connection to no one.
He strained beneath the weight of his mind as he gripped the necklace for support, the only real support he ever had in his life. His eyes closed as he listened to the yelling of people beyond the bathroom. The chaos had begun... and only one question bore into everyone's mind...who was Josuah Ardel.
Eyes that were not his own lowered to the floor as he stared vacantly at the intricate stone tiles. He was scared...scared of being wrong...of not being enough for the boy. If Brendon couldn't connect to him...then there was nothing left for him in this life.
he girl from before eventually grew bored and returned to her seat as the next speaker began to prepare his paperwork. He didn't look at her directly, but he was conscious of her return because she could easily continue being a problem.
But for now she was not his concern. A low breath parted from his lips when the attorney stepped towards the podium, and filled him with the sudden urge to shelter the boy away. Chaos was all that awaited him if he stayed but Josuah had no way of communicating with him. He could physically feel the anticipation within the room growing and his own body felt tight with dread.
That was when he caught the boy looking to him again, reminding him of how drawn yet disturbed he was with his presence. But there was opportunity in his sights and he took it. With a tightness in his throat he reached beneath his sweater and withdrew the boy's necklace.
If he saw it then perhaps he would try to speak with him. There was a chance his attempt to lure the boy would fail, but if it did then he would lose nothing. Only when he had his attention did he hide the necklace away and moved towards the large men's washroom.
eople were being ushered back into the church for the final goodbyes, but Josuah hadn't caught his breath yet. He leaned against the coarse bark and closed his eyes. The autumn air was crisp as it entered his lungs, showing signs of the approaching frost.
Finally, he moved, leaning against his shoulder to glimpse around the tree. Brendon was being brought back inside with the same bodyguard who had accompanied him everywhere. But his fluffy fawn ears were flickering aggressively atop his head, his eyes searching for him.
The sight and knowledge burned at his eyes and again it all seemed like a dream. "Too much drink?" A feminine voice came from behind him causing Josuah's entire posture to harden and eyes to grow wide. But when he turned, no trace of that reaction could be seen.
She was given nothing but a glimpse before he departed towards the crowd of people returning to the building. Sadly, she was the persistent type, choosing to lull somewhat behind him.
There had been a curiosity within her eyes, but he had no intention to quell it. The older male moved towards one of the walls he had been stationed at before, but when he felt her presence near he changed course to the male's restroom. A soft giggle left her as she waited nearby, intending to tease him as she dipped her finger into one of the potted plants and sprouted a flower.
Age was nearly impossible to know considering the endless possibilities of different lifelines. But from her playful attitude regarding a funeral, he suspected she was either very young, or lacked empathy entirely.
But he wouldn't be cornered and immediately stepped into the large bathroom, he turned towards one of the windows, pushing it open and slipped outside. He had studied the grounds before hand to learn the layout. He wasn't certain if that information would be needed or not, but he had to feel prepared in someway. And with that he ventured back to the front and re-entered while the elven girl was still out of sight, waiting for something that would never come.
The loud voice of Brendon's Uncle echoed through the room as he gave a speech that sent the room into an applaud before setting his sights onto his other half. Josuah tensed feeling an immediate surge of aggression towards the man, but Brendon's bodyguard was quick to intervene.
Josuah silently moved towards one of the walls that gave him a view of the boy and immediately he regretted the few minutes he had been forced to spend away. He would have to be at his side always from this day forward...he would find a way to make it so.
onversations were alight even during an event that should have been sacred. Within the following hours he had heard who would take over the estate and whether or not that man had been responsible for murder. The family was divided, those in support of Brendon's Uncle, and those completely against him. There was a smaller group of family members who kept their opinions entirely to themselves and they felt the most concerning to him.
Amidst his silent studying, was always his soulmate Brendon. He never let the boy out of his sight and felt admiration within his heart for him. Josuah knew that he was a heavenly creature, a Zlatorogs to be precise. His antlers were undeniably beautiful, carved with intricate rivers of gold.
While his species was tarnished with a reputation that would follow him to the ends of the earth. Especially when the majority of people who had arrived were not of the hell species. There would be many problems to come, but he would brace them all for the sake of Brendon's life. Though he did recognize that his existence depended entirely on the boy. Which left the question of whether or not he'd be able to feed from him. It had been something he had been opposed to all of his life... especially now when met with such a beautiful creature...his requirement for life felt tarnishing.
His brows drew down into a heavy frown as his thoughts weighed in his mind. But when he lifted his gaze it was to the startled expression of Brendon. The same piercing feeling that was inflicted on him coursed through his own heart, causing him to seek shelter immediately behind a large oak tree that overshadowed may stone graves.
It was painful, very painful, stealing his breath away and making his hands tremble. He could already feel the need creeping up inside of him to take in his essence, to finally for the first time in his life...feel sated.
s instructed within the letter, Josuah had arrived long before he was needed at the funeral. His outward appearance appeared poised and relentless but internally he was rattled to the core. Brendon Redal was the one responsible, nothing else, not the chaos of the growing crowd of strangers, or the sleepless plane ride. He had come like a starved creature of the night, giving up everything without a second thought to be where he was now.
He had seen him as soon as the boy arrived, and had kept his eyes on him ever since, but with a great distance between them. His parents had given him a picture within the letter, but he was so much smaller than he could have ever imagined.
Josuah's heart ached deeply to the point of pain as he drew a hand to the necklace that burned with a brighter energy now that it's owner was in sight. He had been told the reality of the situation, that the parents had been murdered by someone seeking their fortune and that no one could be trusted with their son's life but him. He didn't know the boy's parents but he harbored an anger towards their lifeless bodies for not finding him sooner. The mother was a Cherubim and so she knew...the suffering...the eternal agony that came with being apart.
Everything felt surreal, like he wasn't really there. But that was because he wasn't, not truly. Dark blue eyes lifted to the reflection of one of the vases where he could see the stranger staring back at him. He didn't know how Brendon would react to his disguise. He had tried to remove it...to come as himself, but even the thought made him feel nauseous.
A light shudder invisibly coursed through his body as he brought his eyes back to Brendon, who was speaking to someone else. He looked as though he had lived a good life, but now he was riddled with the fear of his future. Someone within his own family had killed his parents...and it was now in his power to keep him safe.
He was ill prepared, but there was no other path for him. He was a slave to his fated half.

appearance
A
ll of Josuah's natural features have been dulled because of his condition. His golden hair, his emerald eyes, and usual peach skin have never radiated their true life. Thanks to his enhanced beauty, a lot of other areas of his body have remained in tack, such as the build of his form and his dulled looks don't seem to discourage others.
He uses a hex that allows him to change his disguise when needed to that of a simple male, with dark brown hair, and dark blue eyes, both appearing almost black in color.
For clothes, Josuah always has gloves, black in color. He covers himself completely, and he always has a cloth mask, and hoodie available for when he needs to fully cover himself.
He harbors no visible demon traits, such as horns, tail, wings. But he can showcase emerald scales when submerged in water for extended periods of time.
personality
C
ontact had always been forbidden for Josuah, even as a baby his parents couldn't hold him without gloves. He was diagnosed with haphephobia at the tender age of four. Over the years Josuah has come to understand the nature of his fear wasn't from contact, but absorbing the personal essence of another.
This has made him exceptionally closed off, unable to connect with anyone including his parents. His mother loved him unconditionally and dedicated her life to saving him. Josuah holds himself responsible for his mother's death and his guilt mingles with his loneliness creating a fierce opponent.
Despite his isolation he doesn't come across as depressed, but rather unfeeling. The reality of his species has ultimately left him emotionally stunted. It is difficult for him to express himself properly. Allowing gratitude to be out shadowed by his highly defensive temper. As a child he resorted to violence, harming those around him without restraint. But as an adult he's more cautious and dedicates all of his free time to honing his abilities even though it is a slow and grueling process. For his life has been encased in weakness and the constant loom of his failing health. The necklace he found gave him an opportunity to survive, not live.
He silently obsesses over his soulmate, but with it are the memories of his mother's fate. He has dealt with the belittlement of his father for the second half of his life and that has impacted him to at times think poorly of himself. But he doesn't become absorbed in it. He has confidence and authority lurking within him but both have been completely stifled, like a flame starved of oxygen.
His permanent disguise has also become a heavy part of his personality. He's constantly this other person and rarely see's himself anymore. It is safe to say that he is a highly damaged individual and needs a great deal of healing that he's never been able to accomplish on his own.
abilities

ʜᴇxᴇs[break] Symbols that allow a variety of temporary abilities, such as summoning, healing, teleportation, disguise etc.
Josuah has advanced this the most, memorizing symbols for future chalk use, he can also imprint the symbol with his fire manipulation if he requires a precise mapping.
Status: ᴍᴀsᴛᴇʀ ★★★★★
sɪʀᴇɴ sᴏɴɢ[break] A powerful tune that can paralyze, cause death, confusion, and allure.

backstory
J
osuah's birth came as an unexpected blessing for Cyrus and Viola Ardel; a Siren and Demon couple who had been trying for many years to have a child. They were instantly in love with their new baby boy, although completely unprepared for him to come into the world as a Procubi. The only knowledge they had on the species was the well known stereotype of them being an extremely sex driven kind. However, they refused to be as narrow-minded as the general populace and began a lengthy delve into research only to learn that the Procubi were terribly misunderstood; they were creatures who sought after closeness, friendship, love, and intimacy when appropriate. Both Cyrus and Viola were determined to raise their child well and with the love he deserved.
But the idea of such a beginning became nothing more than a fairytale as they began to run into one problem after another. Whenever they attempted to console or coddle Josuah, he often screamed as though being inflicted with physical pain and to their horror he was later professionally diagnosed with Haphephobia, a fear so extreme that it could cause him physical pain. Contact with their son thereafter was always barriered with a pair of gloves. Things did not improve when he was old enough to begin attending school. Josuah grew up as an extremely difficult child, frequently using his fire manipulation powers to target other children in school, ultimately leading up to an expulsion.
Uncertain of what else to do, Josuah's parents looked to the hospital for aid. For many of the following years Josuah became well acquainted with the hospital through visits and at certain intervals, when he became too extreme for his parents to handle, he found himself temporarily housed in the Psychiatric Ward. As he grew older, Josuah became more self-aware of his species as well as the problems his Enhanced Beauty was creating. He developed the incessant need to thoroughly cover himself, dressing in long sleeve hooded jackets, gloves, and a mask to cover the bottom portion of his face.
For his parents they were finally given the answer they'd been desperately searching for all along when they happened across a Cherubim considerate enough to enlighten them. She could see his string of fate and informed Cyrus and Viola that their son's only hope of survival would have to come from his soulmate. This vital piece of information set his parents on a journey. They gave up everything for him; their jobs and house, taking to the road in search of Josuah's soulmate. They even enlisted the help of a Cherubim until they could no longer financially afford them.
Thus Josuah grew up many years on the road, no longer knowing a life of having a home and staying in one place. When he was 11 he discovered a powerful necklace that he believed to be connected to his soulmate. He could feel his essence in the jewelry and it became something he could feed off of. However, still desperate to find the one the necklace belonged to, he kept his discovery a sworn secret to himself, unaware of the detrimental consequences it would cause.
The continued search ended in terrible and gruesome tragedy in the form of a high speed car accident. The only two survivors of the crash are Josuah and his father, who is also heavily injured. Viola had taken her seatbelt off at the time of the crash, being thrown through the dashboard and then pinned and crushed under the weight of the second vehicle. In the chaos of that night, both father and son understood that she wouldn't make it. She was far too injured. But, when her last words were spoken with tears and regret on how sorry she was that she couldn't help Josuah and how she had failed him as a mother, Josuah opened up and revealed the truth — that he had found the necklace and it had been sustaining and bringing him back to good health. His father was wrought with the misery of the accident and Viola's eventual death, but he brought that vengeance onto his son and blamed him completely for her death. He would go on to never forgive him.
After that night, the search was over. His father was a completely different man and coldly threatened Josuah, telling him if he so much as caused another problem he would seal his powers and get rid of him. The two never reconnected and became strangers living under the same roof. Josuah was forced to attend public school again for the first time in years. The high school he attended was large and in the heart of a huge city, allowing him to more effectively blend in and avoid attention. However, the unwanted effects of his Enhanced Beauty never truly went away.
Because of this Josuah finally delved deep into researching all of his abilities in hopes to find a solution to the problem, and that was how he became aware of Hexes and their ability of disguise. However, the image he conjured into reality during his first attempt at disguising couldn't sit well with him, and for a time he actually abandoned the practice, and the image that had been seared into his mind. But the problem of Enhanced Beauty remained present in his life, despite all of his attempts to thwart it, and eventually he'd been forced to return to trying Hexes a second time.
After more research, he procured a physical image of another male for him to study and attempt to disguise himself as, and this time it worked. His new identity allowed him to live a more grounded existence, one that took time for him to settle into. Years of covering himself kept him reluctant to remove the hood and face mask but he eventually sorted it out. His newfound life hadn't given him the answer or reprieve he'd been looking for. Instead, it had created a massive distance and dysphoria, leaving him detached with himself and the world around him. The only comfort he now held was the faint warmth of his necklace.
At 16, Josuah dropped out of high school. He attempted to continue with online schooling but lacked the motivation. Instead he took to jobs; at first working overnight as a packing employee and then working deliveries. There was something about traveling across a variety of nearby towns and cities that helped the restlessness that had cropped up in his life.
He'd been 19 when he received a letter that changed his life completely. The contents written by a Mr. and Mrs. Redal, two people he'd never met before in his life. It spoke of their son Brendon, whom they believed to be his soulmate, and his immediate need for his protection.
Josuah felt so riled up as his master continued his onslaught of insults! He was so smug that he didn't even try to run. Fury bubbled up within his form and his cheeks actually darkened as he surveyed the area to ensure his charge would have no means of escape. He wasn't entirely certain of all Brendon's abilities, but he was more than confident that he could handle anything he threw at him.
"I know my master is doing it on purpose because he wants it... He wants his first taken again and again," Josuah returned with his own feisty nature as he reached out to grab him and make him have more until he admitted the truth! That he owned his first kiss.
Josuah felt a wave of dread spread inside of his chest as he watched the black creature begin to shift into a human. His head lowered and darted around trying to find something to defend himself with, but the land surround him held nothing but the open expanse of grass. Ultimately, he tensed and a surge of powerful energy expelled from him or it should have...but nothing happened within their twisted reality.[break][break]
Emerald eyes hardened as he got a flash of a room in his mind...with candles and strange markings. It looked to be a cave and had been illuminated by his shield that he had somehow used in the real world. He was still piecing it all together though and hadn't come to a solid conclusion of what was going on like the stranger who was now standing before him.[break][break]
Josuah had been too lost in what had just transpired that he hadn't properly prepared himself for battle. He held his breath and focused his energy again wanting to use his dome to protect himself if the stranger tried to attack. But he didn't want to give the power away immediately, so he still could use the element of surprise to make his escape.[break][break]
The other male was tall, slender and looked to be a snake of man, but not as thuggish as the white haired male they had met earlier. The male didn't try to attack him and instead began arguing his innocence. But leaving the area did not suddenly exclude him from being the culprit.[break][break]
A sound of muffled alarm left his petite from as he scrambled to his feet when the other guy suddenly burst a flame within his hand. Josuah felt so unguarded in his human form because he didn't have his claws or fangs...he was weak and feeble as a child. It reminded him of how powerless he felt in the past when he had been captured and he hated the feelings...he hated the memories.[break][break]
"Don't touch me," he snarled out more like an animal than a civilized boy. But the hand did not come to him and instead reached for his chain which were draped around in him all angles. The other guy's hand fazed through the prison links and Josuah couldn't even feel the heat of his fire. Even he couldn't touch his own chains, but that was merely because the world they were in wasn't real...it couldn't harm them it was just a place to keep them occupied. But the young wolf didn't know this at least not yet.[break][break]

Winter || Dreamworld || Outfit || OOC: Wild boy Josuah! But glad you like his picture! It's all I got though, it was very hard to even find that one. xD;
If he had wolf ears they would have perked straight up when Brendon told him that he hadn't taken his first kiss. No, that he wasn't allowed take his first kiss. A swell of heat burned inside of him as his eyes widened and his heart jolted from the sheer audacity of it all!
The subject did embarrass him especially with how brash Brendon as being about it, but it infuriated him so much more! Did he really think that he could still continue to control him even after he had done such a thing?
"Take that back," he snarled out and began to pick himself up.
Brendon didn't hesitate to push him backwards causing him to reach down and brace the ground for support. With his hands preoccupied Brendon used that chance to escape his grasp and immediately stood to his full height. He scolded him with rosy cheeks and then rushed off to hide from him.
Josuah was slow as he sat back up and then glanced around to spot the little head of his master peering out from behind the wall divider. He felt...affectionate himself and aggressive but he didn't chase after him.
He didn't quite understand his own feelings or actions. He knew that his parents loved each other and that was why they kissed, but he knew it wasn't that simple between him and his master. But he felt desperate to push himself into Brendon's life forcefully. If he had something like his first kiss then he'd never forget him...it was childish and selfish, but he didn't care. In the wild he could just take what he wanted without any rules, but within society there many restrictions.
Josuah drew up onto his knees and reached out over Brendon's bed, resting against it as he pouted and stared back at him with a frown. "Your first kiss is mine now," he told him assertively and refused to give it back...
Brendon's lips parted against his own, as a muffled cry escaped him as he held him in place. The dominance he was displaying over his master gave him a rise...and despite his energy being given he still felt very strong. But the restlessness growing inside of Brendon mingled with his own and he had to part from his mouth...to try and catch his breath.
'If... I'm to have a leash...then you must given me everything,' he whispered intimately within his mind as he bit his lower lip and felt a deep heat coursing through him. He felt affectionate and wanted more...but he restrained himself and began sitting up whilst still keeping his master within his lap.
Josuah exhaled and tensed as he drew his hands upwards and stabilized Brendon as he fell onto him. The feeling of his master falling on him oddly gave him a rush...like he for a moment was in control. His charge became extremely embarrassed as he scolded him and wiggled about to try and get off him. But Josuah's hold lifted as he grasped onto his cheeks and forced him down into a kiss once more.
If he tried to pull away...he wouldn't let him. If he wanted to put a leash on him then Josuah would take something too! He had...already stolen Brendon's first kiss, but he would take more if he had to.
However, to his surprise he began unconsciously giving him his energy again!
As expected from a child, Brendon didn't understand any of his feelings. He didn't want pet commands...he wanted security. His master didn't know what it was like to be betrayed...to lose everything and Josuah never wanted to experience that again. But it was hard to protect himself when he was getting attached to the boy even if he didn't want to. The feeling came naturally to him and that was why he so desperately wanted security...
His features hardened when he heard the boy storming over towards him, but he was caught completely off guard when Brendon jumped on top of him. His ears jerked upwards just as the soft warmth of Brendon's mouth clamped down over one and a low sound instantly escaped him.
The sensation was jarring and enough to caused him to change back into his human form until his charge was sitting atop him glowering. His cheeks were red from the sensation of being bit...and his heart was rapidly pounding since mere moments ago he had...he had kissed him.
But Brendon wasn't acting like any of that happened...he didn't understand him or what they were... He instead just felt lost and frustrated.
Josuah halted his movement when Brendon had the audacity to tell him that he wanted a leash! His heart skipped a beat at the insinuation of being leashed...and he knew it was wrong, but he wanted it. He wanted his master to make it so that they could never be apart. The thought was unstable and illogical...but he couldn't stop the feelings from swelling within his chest.
"Then leash me," he snapped back at him aggressively. "Find a way to make it so you can never replace me!"
The words had stumbled out before had time to filter them and despite the truth behind them his honesty only made him feel exposed and hurt. A leash wouldn't give him what he really wanted...it wouldn't fix his past or their future. Emerald eyes narrowed and lifted towards his master...as his features revealed the strain behind his reveal until he could take no more.
His teen self began to fade until nothing was left but the sharp golden fur of his large beast form. He poised himself within a sitting position and glared silently at the wall. They were just children arguing...about things they couldn't understand or have...
Josuah's gaze flickered to the black wolf as he conveniently took his leave. His emerald eyes grew tired as the events of the day weighted down upon him. He was exhausted and wanted nothing more than to rest, but he couldn't. He needed leave the area and would not be able to sleep until midday which would be a few hours away. Golden ears curved atop his head as he listened to the sounds of the forest, but he could just hear the sound of the two strangers departing.[break][break]
The beast turned in the opposite direction of the two and began a light trot to leave the area, but he soon slowed down and merely began walking at a slow pace. The only sound now was the crunching of the white snow beneath his weight. There was no wind...and nothing else throughout the surrounding area. Before him the treeline spread out giving way to pockets of open land before closing back in to a thicker dense of trees.[break][break]
The sound of another approaching never came which was unnatural, but what was even more...dangerous was the fact that the wolf standing before him...was the exact one he had left behind. His fur bristled as he stopped where he was and slowly glanced behind him without ever taking his eyes fully off the stranger.[break][break]
He had left him behind then—[break][break]
"—What is he doing here?" Josuah's eyes widened as the sound of his own voice echoed between them. The startle was so much for him that he actually took a step back on his own two human legs and lost his footing, tumbling down into the snow. His breathing began to pick up as alarm settled into him and his gaze lowered down to his hands...the hands of a child... They were dirty...like he remembered them from years ago when he had been locked within Erikur's prison. But there was more...in a slow ominous movement large black chains of his curse circled around his tiny body in a translucent form.[break][break]
"What did you do?!" He yelled back towards the stranger with anger and alarm, but his voice wasn't intimidating because of his current state. He...wasn't a child anymore he had aged and should look like a teenager...so why did he appear as if no time at all had passed? At some point he had changed...without even knowing, but he was still cursed...so how was any of this possible?![break][break]
