Welcome to The Duality of Man, an original animanga role-play that features numerous supernatural creatures. Unfortunately, these various species have distanced themselves because of the war that occurred thousands of years ago, plaguing some with eyes that only see their dualism. While others meddle themself with their differences, two groups fight, each attempting to eliminate the other in for their definition of worldly peace. These two groups of the Terror Response Syndicate (TRS) and the Assembly of Phantoms (AP). With individuals fighting merely over their differences, it brings uncertainty to the outcome of this war.
We happily accept all role-players as long as they obey the rules and are capable of meeting our word count of 50. This does include those who are unfamiliar with this style of role-playing. The staff of The Duality of Man are willing to happily help those who are new to the role-playing world so they feel comfortable on site. Feel free to message the staff if you need help, they can be found here or in the site Discord and will gladly answer questions alongside calm concerns. If you have any suggestions we would love to hear them; guests may use the support board as a suggestion area as well. Should you decide to join, may I say welcome to the site and we all hope you enjoy your time here.
Yours Truely,
The Staff
season
Summer 2024
Heat has broken through into a glorious summer. The snow has entirely dried through the spring, leaving to the brilliance of the warmer months. Terror activity has risen as people are brought out of their homes, leaving the TRS in a position of consistent work. Each are attempting to maintain victory in the endless struggle for power.
Since the wonderful members of TDOM enjoy the site enough to play around on it, this thread is to assist with the site's tidying! Functionality is important and we want to make the site functional even if its activity will be minimal at best!
"Hmm." Aines understood where she was coming from, but only just a little. Throughout his life, he had help, another person to balance out his rash actions and carelessness. Now, in his old age, was the only true time he was alone. "I had someone check my pride. I was the strongest around, and she was the smartest. Haha, nothing could touch us! But... yeah. If I was you back then, by myself, I'm sure my cockiness would've gotten everyone killed."
Not even flinching when a Terror's parts flew past his face, he again smiled as he trailed behind her. He wasn't as fast, but the darkness sped him up enough, impaling young Terrors that were hiding in the dark before they could get close to Serenine.
"Being alone isn't healthy. Find more than a friend and be prideful!" Aines roared.
"That's good! You kept at something until you were better than yesterday. Respectable." Glancing at the kids listening, sleeping, and some still playing around quietly behind him under the shade, he was reminded of his youth, but shook off the feeling. "Ahh I haven't picked up an instrument since the Spartan War near Athens and Greece."
Ryuu, a dragon sounding name belonging to a human, he liked his new companion already. As he watched Ryuu play his instrument, he noticed the children slowly beginning to gather to listen in, some pulling others out of curiosity.
"You're pretty good," Aines exclaimed. "Where'd you learn how to play like that?" As the music continued, Aines would increase the amount of shade present, blocking out even more of the light in an attempt to make the little ones feel tired in the cool dark.
Aines smiled at the affirmation and moved over a bit.
"Sure! It seems like their energy never drops not even for a moment," he said, yawning. It was true, they've been constantly playing for quite some time now not that he minded. It was just tiresome guarding and keeping them soothed, the latter he wasn't too good at. At all. "Name's Aines..." Glancing quickly at the man, he nodded, "Musician."
"Now that's what I like to hear!" A simple, effective plan with a simple goal that could be accomplished without the need of endangering other lives. "Is that so? No wonder I haven't seen much of them around, who the hell's in charge over there." Aines scoffed before he shifted back into his neutral state as well, only leaving his eyes and mouth in their draconic state.
While listening to her tale, he crossed his arms. "I don't think there's a dragon of the dark more stronger than I. In the old days I was so prideful I was looked up to as a Greek god, hah... my point is, pride can be a good thing. It's let me protect the people I want to protect. And if your power never wavered since then, you're still one of the most powerful, Guardian, and I will give you your due respect!"
Looking back at the shade, he chuckled and smiled widely. "Ready to go? We have Terrors to destroy."
"Good to meet you Guardian Serenine," Aines said happily before once again pausing at her angelic statement. "Hmm. Now that you mention it, it was a bit confusing everyone running around saying I died. Guess it was that archangel fellow. Gate's will."
He then followed her gaze, instantly frowning at what he saw. People hiding in the dark was absolutely pointless near him... especially with the most obvious, recognizable smells. These weren't people, they were Terrors. Much to his happiness, Serenine was two steps ahead of him.
"Don't gotta ask, one each yeah?" Aines cracked his knuckles while setting down the items he used to be carrying until the little girl he was talking to became a grown woman. "Eugh... this is gonna make my head hurt," he said to himself, the disguisers and shifters and transformer guardian magic getting to his head. His shock left him completely as she destroyed the first of the two Terrors that began their assault at impressive speed. Now wasn't the time for shock or surprise at the heavenly fox, now was the time for action.
With zero knackness for restraint, Aines roared, shifting his arms, back, parts of his face, and manifesting draconic wings whilst his blue markings began to glow and grow along with his size. His large, dark wings created shadows beneath them that twitched and rose like sparks of heated blue fire in a camp. Aines turned his head with a cruel smile, staring right at the juvenile Terror. He knew from his time as a General in the TRS that they had the ability to manipulate the dark, just like him, something he took as an insult to the dragons of heaven. Youth or not, Terrors are Terrors; they will be killed.
The forgotten dragon jumped, his wings keeping him in the air for a second before he launched himself to where the Terror last was, straight into the shadows, hands outstretched with a big smile. The moment he entered the darkness, it was over. To anyone with keen senses, they would be able to see him tear the Terror apart quickly, the darkness attacking from all directions. When he was finished, Aines simply walked out of the dark as if nothing ever happened.
Using his pinpoint mastery over darkness, he enhanced his wings, jumping in the air and landing with a glide back in front of Serenine. Staring at her wings, he counted again, taking a step back when he finished.
Pointing back to the shadowy area, his face was stone cold. "There's more around over there. I don't feel any TRS around either. That roudy lot is getting lazy I swear I shouldn't have left... agh, what do you want to do?" Of course regardless of her answer, he was heading back in, to kill the rest and ensure the kid's safety. As he spoke, Aines folded his wings in and dropped to a knee as to not make himself any bigger than the Arch Guardian before him. Like Seers and certain other winged ones, he had a lot of respect for them, even if he was bigger.
"Hmm." Aines remained silent as he began to follow her closely back to her home. He would rather not remember the specifics of that time, but the memories are always fresh on his mind. "Yeah... terrible times... haha. It's my mission to see those times never happen again, but looks like I have a side mission now too. I go by Aines nowadays, you?"
He didn't quite care where they were going at the moment, he had some faith in his new companion and in his own strength. If anything did happen or an undesirable did show up, he should be fine protecting her; that would be the first priority.
As half of the stuff she was carrying was placed in his hand, he carefully took them and held them close to his person as not to damage or lose them. Sure, he was large, but he wasn't reckless. Listening to the number of kids at her safe home and her mission only made his smile bigger.
"Now that's something I can get behind! What a good way to use the land." Aines being his usual self, he sat down and listened intensely to each and every child she described, occasionally interrupting to repeat what she said to ensure he got it down. Eventually he knew every one of their unfortunate, yet inspiring tales.
"Reminds me of the past. Things like that happened far more than now. Say. Let me help you administer the medicine after we take these things back to this home. I'm not letting you do all this work by yourself while I'm in town."
Chuckling, Aines nodded sheepishly before freezing, carefully counting the number of tails that popped up to say hello. He stopped at nine; he missed one but he already knew what that meant, kitsune folk to him always acted the same way. This was no kitsune. Getting down on both knees to decrease his height a bit in both consideration and respect, his smile returned in full force.
"Haha, the size comes from a younger world. I didn't expect someone so... young looking to be what you are. Ah anyway, allow me." Holding out his open hand, he waited until something was deposited in them, hopefully the burden she was carrying. "How many kids you have?" He asked, raising a brow.
Aines took a deep breath, exhaling the cool air of the quiet open area he was sitting in. Children of all kind ran around him, some played with kites while others lightly roughhoused with each other. At one point, a boy was climbing on his back. The forgotten dragon agreed to watch the children from a nearby local daycare until their caretaker returned from the errand they were on.
Resting his head in his hand while sitting crisscrossed, he chucked to himself. It was just like this in Heaven where he'd enjoy some nice quality time with his only friend up there. There was no fighting, just coping with whatever came. Suddenly, a small finger tip tapped on his large shoulder.
'Sir, it's too sunny out now. Way too hot, can we move so we can keep playing'?
Looking up at the sky, Aines laughed. It sure was hot out today. Extremely sunny as well...
"No need, little man," was all he said as he extended his arm upwards. A low growl burned through the air as he muttered one of his favorite words: "Blackout." Suddenly, from every dark crevice in the ground, the shadows shook as darkness rose up into the air. From his extended hand, dark blue substance joined the ensemble of darkness until the sky above the kids was partially covered, providing shade of blue and black. While not enough to completely block out the sunlight, it was enough for the temperature to drop a few degrees. For dramatic effect, he put in effort to change the color of everyone's shadows near him to true blue. It seemed to appease the kids; they kept playing, so Aines went back to relaxing, ignoring the question stares he was getting.
Just about to doze off, he felt someone approaching.
"Here to play too? There's room right here," Aines patted the ground beside him, "Come on and enjoy the shade. And the light."
The Angelic District, formerly known as the Heaven District to those like Aines that have been around for awhile. The air was a wonderful scent of home as was the scenery, the reason why he was here in this particular district wasn't a specific one, he just needed some supplies for his next nomadic trek. Perhaps to the larger city or the wilderness...
As the nigh nine foot tall dragon strode on with a few white doves resting on his head, he stopped in his tracks as he saw someone coming from what he presumed to be a market or store in the distance. Looking down at the girl, he smiled. She couldn't have been any older than an emerging teen, he thought. He had no idea why anyone would let such a person, let alone a heaven-born, shop alone.

appearance
Born in literal ancient times to an ice draconic mother and a father he never knew well, his looks shows just how much of a freak of nature he is as well as how sad a tale he has. Dark complex with surprisingly matching blue hair and eyes, Aines stands at an unbelievable height eight feet ten inches tall, towering over everyone except the race of Giants, who have him beat by an extreme margin. Aines owes his height to the time period he lived in, where in heaven there were no real limits and the earth had so much rich oxygen, heights like that were quite normal.
The second thing you would notice instantly are the markings on his skin: dark blue on his face and arms. While taking a dragon form, this becomes extremely apparent as the marks spread through his entire body, every limb in a specific pattern. Even his breath of darkness is blue colored, giving the false impression that he's of ice nature. Aines' mother having dominant genes as well as interbreeding is the cause of this.
Attire wear, Aines doesn't wear much. Quite literally whatever suits him at the time. Casually, he wears a standard nomad's cloak and loose fitting fighting pants torn at the bottom from wear and tear. No shoes, no shirt, still gets service. Other times when needed he can be seen in a suit. It's not known how long said suit remains on his body.
personality
The most patient, wise and steadfast person someone will ever meet making him the best when it comes to moral issues or personal plaguing concerns, but at the same time the most deadliest of his kind due to his rule about holding back: don't. He's at 100% at all percentages of the day with no room for fakeness.
While he will go out of his way to act like the unwanted guardian figure to younger dragons and flying creatures or those who he deems has "lost their way", he prefers to travel from place to place by himself just in case he runs into something that shouldn't be.
To sum him up nicely, Aines is a gentle giant on a kill switch.

abilities
Darkness Manipulation -- Mastered
The ability to create, control, and/or manipulate the element of darkness. When your parents believe you to be cursed by the gods themselves, you end up spending a lot of time in dark places you never knew could get so dark. Why did they believe him to be cursed? Because of the color of the darkness he manipulates. At times, Aines can create blue shadows or dark attacks that are no stronger than any other patch of black. Despite this being because of his mother, he was locked up anyway. The lonliness, emptiness, quiet stillness of it all was both his teacher and comfort. Aines being good at manipulating the darkness is a severe understatement that cost many dearly, even fellow dark manipulators. His time in the TRS only served to sharpen this skill. Aines is most known for his creative use of the dark as well as his terrifying self control over his inner-darkness while shifting. Have your local dark manipulator advise you on what to do... or just turn on the god damn lights.
Dragon-Shift Transformation -- Mastered
The ability to partially shift into a dragon or fully transform into a dragon risking permanent loss of self. He's been along for a long time. He knows his limits, what he can and cannot do regarding his heritage... and he abuses the living hell out of his limits. His mother sacrificed herself give Aines a lesson on what to do when fighting a fully transformed heavenly dragon and what not to do while shifting, less you unwillingly forfeit your body to the beast. Now an adult, Aines honed this ability to a ludicrous degree, being able to passively shift as well as being able to shift to manifest wings or full draconic limbs. Needless to say, his body is always in a severe amount of strain (he's a regular at every local hospital), but it's worth it if he can teach others of his kind about themselves.
Enhanced Strength and Durability -- Mastered
Aines is a pretty well build man, his genetics aside. He was never one to slack off on good physical and spiritual health. Add on his genetics and you have a whole different beast, quite literally. He loves to put extra behind his weighted punches or power lifts, be it a shift or darkness itself. When it comes to durability, he's a walking tank. Exploit his usual weaknesses and avoid close encounters if you have no unique skills if your own.
Pain Suppression -- Beginner
Despite being in the TRS at a high rank as well as the multiple things he's ever been through in his life, Aines doesn't believe in dragons using their handy ability to ignore pain to such a good extent. In his own words, it further detaches you from others less fortunate. That... and he really doesn't need to. If you don't know what you're doing, you're not even going to hurt him anyway. This wouldn't work if the pain was never physical to begin with, but don't tell him that.
Immortality
How old is Aines? Old enough to really hate a certain devil, but young enough to enjoy kindergarten tests. They're pretty fun, and he's not ever getting any older, so why not enjoy the small things before the world ends?
Thermal Resistance
A natural ability for most dragons, Aines of course is resistant to the heat and to the cold as well as anything in between on a basic level.
Magic Tasting
Another natural ability for most dragons, however it's really questionable whether Aines can do it properly or not. All he tastes is his own, in turn making him even more stubborn.
backstory
The man who has no past is the happiest man alive.
Is this right or is this wrong? He never cared, he chose not to remember, or at least not remember the horrid parts. Eternal youth, immortality, both were hyped up curses. Yet, even with a limited memory he still has unlimited nightmares.
Ἄμβροτος Αινς. Ámvrotos Ains. Aimes Ambrotam. He’s had so many names over the years he’s been alive that all really mean the same thing, and to his surprise every time despite how modern they get, they always are nearly spot on to his real name and it’s meaning. Kasta Vozahlaas in dragon tongue, but he had come to warm up to Aines.
Aines was born in Akari’s shining Heaven during it’s older days, around the Angels, Seraphim, Yetis and Seers. It was here the past he refuses to remember clearly began, the source of trauma he keeps under wraps, but he never stayed there as fate would have it. At some point, he and a childhood friend he crushed on at the time moved him to the lands below before the War began, a decision he would be grateful for. Sure, it was now times of chaos and he would have to defend the both of them, but he wasn’t worried nor concerned. She could take care of herself, as long as he took care of himself and take care he did, traveling to Greece and briefly becoming a patron deity there to those who weren’t gifted nor skilled naturally or supernaturally. He always thought the Greek had strange customs, but he learned much from them after traveling a bit and allowing his friend to do her mental tricks.
All things never stay plateaued however. Time passed and eventually, as they saw more of the world, their opinions regarding the War and its effects changed dramatically. Aines was adamant that things would solve themselves, but his friend, his dear childhood crush, she was beginning to break. She was barred from the only true home she ever knew. Her connection to it, her old life, her everything was now no more, and Aines despite trying his best couldn’t soothe her.
She left him at conflict’s conclusion, but Aines was patient. He knew she would be back stronger, smarter, with power that was influenced only by her own will, a will he believed to be the strongest out of any other, and he was determined to match her drive, to see her again one day as not something lower or even something higher, but something on equal ground. He’d do his best to do what’s right, despite their chaotic time in paradiso together.
But still, they are memories he considered not worth lingering on. Anyone who lived what he lived through would say the same. Love worked in strange ways back then.
Of course, there’s days he wished he could just go back to simpler times, but those times are gone and they will never return. All he can do now is prevent something like the War and the abominations it birthed from ever happening again through his actions and the actions of those he deems the future of the world.
