Welcome to The Duality of Man, an original animanga role-play that features numerous supernatural creatures. Unfortunately, these various species have distanced themselves because of the war that occurred thousands of years ago, plaguing some with eyes that only see their dualism. While others meddle themself with their differences, two groups fight, each attempting to eliminate the other in for their definition of worldly peace. These two groups of the Terror Response Syndicate (TRS) and the Assembly of Phantoms (AP). With individuals fighting merely over their differences, it brings uncertainty to the outcome of this war.
We happily accept all role-players as long as they obey the rules and are capable of meeting our word count of 50. This does include those who are unfamiliar with this style of role-playing. The staff of The Duality of Man are willing to happily help those who are new to the role-playing world so they feel comfortable on site. Feel free to message the staff if you need help, they can be found here or in the site Discord and will gladly answer questions alongside calm concerns. If you have any suggestions we would love to hear them; guests may use the support board as a suggestion area as well. Should you decide to join, may I say welcome to the site and we all hope you enjoy your time here.

Summer 2024
Heat has broken through into a glorious summer. The snow has entirely dried through the spring, leaving to the brilliance of the warmer months. Terror activity has risen as people are brought out of their homes, leaving the TRS in a position of consistent work. Each are attempting to maintain victory in the endless struggle for power.
Since the wonderful members of TDOM enjoy the site enough to play around on it, this thread is to assist with the site's tidying! Functionality is important and we want to make the site functional even if its activity will be minimal at best!
Manners were something Nathan oftentimes limited to home use to avoid bothering the benevolent servants who worked for the Beckard family. They were loyal and nowadays, some of the few people who the male vampire could refer to as family members with the early death of his brother. The constant absences of his parents already kicked them out of the running for being even considered potential family members; Nathan despised them in anything. Fortunately, the green-haired man could always find himself pleased with the excellent service the servants of the manner displayed, making Nathan praise them. He would not be daring enough to display his sadistic mask and frighten them away since they were the people who assisted his daily affairs through cooking meals, washing his clothes and tidying the many rooms of the Beckard manor. As Demetria and Nathan entered the expansive basement filled with everything designed for proper combat training for their species, the male vampire stretched. In a simple move, he rolled off his TRS jacket, setting it on the back of the small chair in the corner. The chairs and table were brought down as a break area between practices, and naturally to hold drinks.
[break][break]
The green-haired man brought his arm up, stretching them and listening to several, subtle cracks as he accomplished the action. Compared to when he first joined the TRS, Nathan had built up some lean muscle through a steady exercising in hopes of impressing his boyfriend. While the male vampire could hardly care about the opinions of other individuals, Tristan carried enough significance for him to care. A sigh escaped his mouth at Demetria's insistence to fight; he wanted to begin somewhere other than sparring. Once he finished stretching, he dismissively waved his hand towards her.
[break][break]
"Calm down, will ya? We're not starting at sparring," he stated, leaning against a wall. "Tell me what experience you have in fighting. Then I know where I can start."
[break][break]
Some explanation sounded like an excellent location to start, especially since Nathan desired to know if Demetria was a worthy sparring partner. Either way, the male vampire wanted to judge her capability in her abilities before launching himself headlong into outright sparring. After a few moments, the servant came downstairs, a silver tray balanced on his hand with two plastic bottles set on the surface. The liquid inside was a diluted red colouring, making it obvious that animal blood was placed inside. Blood, the key to a vampire's abilities, would definitely be required in some quantity for training. There were plenty of reserves of blood as a result, the servants knowing very well that Nathan's occupation relied heavily on his abilities in fighting and his blood manipulation, which needed the red nectar as fuel.
Under a majority of circumstances, Nathan despised people attempting to create a close bond with him. While he allowed Tristan to slip through, the blond's attractiveness made him difficult to resist as a result. Afterwards, his choice proved to be excellent considering he gained the company of a rather adorable friend from his past. Meanwhile, the disobedient redhead who desired more information possessed none of the traits Tristan held and furthermore had a difficult to handle attitude. Currently, he disliked Demetria's attitude, and partially from his stubbornness, refused to grant her an easy chance of redemption. This resulted in information about Nathan's personal life being completely locked away in secret, especially considering the male vampire preferred to keep his mental wound closed to avoid any upsets. Since Donovan's death he was prone to more emotional moments should he be forced to speak about his beloved brother and the early demise he faced because of the Assembly of Phantoms, furthermore, Nathan's interference with Donovan's work on the day of his death resulted in the premature claim on his brother's life.
[break][break]
The notion of being forced to relive those horrendous memories bothered the green-haired teen immensely, thus he wished to avoid those thoughts at all costs. While he awaited for Demetria to join him at the entrance, Nathan crossed his arms and began impatiently tapping his foot. He was renown for his impatience, the young hunter preferring to jump into the action rather than waiting for the correct time to interfere.
[break][break]
"Hurry up! You're a vampire, I know you can go faster than that," Nathan snapped while he waited for Demetria to join him.
[break][break]
When Demetria explained the significance of trust, the full-fledged hunter provided an eye roll in response. He could comprehend why trust was important, but Nathan considered it something which needed earning. Once the redhead joined him at the door, Nathan opened and walked through the threshold, leading her down the large hallway. The hallway itself possessed a high ceiling with numerous pieces of lavish art and furniture literally alcoves along the way. There were tall windows, however, the blinds were drawn closed considering it was the morning hours, resulting in the unnatural lighting in the room. Only a meagre few seconds did a servant enter the hallway to approach Nathan.
[break][break]
"Master Nathan, you're home early. Would you like anything for you and your guest?" the servant asked.
[break][break]
The vampire paused before regarding the servant with a simple nod. "Could you bring water down to the training room, please? Put some blood in it, my guest is a vampire so I believe she could appreciate that."
[break][break]
With an elegant bow, the servant proceeded down the hallway to fulfill the simple request provided by his master. Once the servant departed, Nathan continued down the hallway, finding the stairs and heading down towards the basement where the training would take place. Once inside, the room changed radically into a reinforced room with exercising equipment and large open spaces. All elegant decorations were lost in favour of designing the place into a practicing room which could withstand the force of vampires training their moves.
There was a tiny smirk stretched across Nathan’s lips when Demetria states she trusted his judgement. Those were words he never expected to leave the bratty girl’s mouth, thus he was pleased to hear them. Under most circumstances, he believed she would have proceeded with her torrent of rudeness considering the attitude she displayed during their initial meeting. There was part of him that wished he recorded Demetria saying those sweet words was simply incredible. The car’s door was closed with a loud slam, Nathan settling himself on the driver’s side. Smoothly, he reached up to tug the seatbelt around, listening as Demetria joined him inside. The seatbelt was secured with a pleasant click. With the redhead inside, Nathan turned the ignition, resulting in the car roaring to life before settling into an inaudible hum. He looked over his shoulder, the green-haired man backing out of the space before driving forward to get onto the streets. A few quick taps on the radio system and rock music flowed through the car, the sound being turned low enough to talk. Smoothly, Nathan navigated the streets, only glancing over when Demetria inquired about the brilliant idea. The male vampire offered a shrug since the idea belonged to Donovan and was later confirmed by his parents. When his brother was in the TRS, the unused space would be more valuable as a training area best suited for vampires. [break][break] There were plenty of deaths in the history of the Beckard family, thus possessing a location to even sharpen self-defence skills became a valuable asset. It resulted in the basement never being altered even after the abrupt demise of his brother. [break][break] “It was useful, let’s just say that,” Nathan answered vaguely. [break][break] Providing details about his brother was a rare accomplishment for Nathan. He desired to avoid those personal questions and escape the thoughts which occasionally made him teary-eyed. Thus, he remained tight-lipped about Donovan around others; he would only consider conversing with Tristan over the subject. They proceeded down the streets until finally arriving at the manor, the young vampire turning into the private garage to park his car. He clicked the button, releasing the seatbelt and prepared to leave the vehicle until hearing Demetria voice another question. The green-haired man froze before rolling his eyes. [break][break] “Why does it matter?” He answered coldly, a snappish tone to his voice. [break][break] Afterwards, Nathan took the keys, exited the car and slammed the door shut behind him. He began walking towards the entrance of the manner, only stopping once he arrived at the door. Teaching without his apprentice was, unfortunately, an impossible task.
Their pointless argument proceeded, Nathan merely rolling his eyes and refusing to provide another response. They could easily bicker for an endless period of time considering the entire lesson introduction started verbal sparring. Merely the beginning of their petty arguing resulted in the male vampire wondering if perhaps they were destined to continuously quarrel. They both appeared adept in this calibre of fighting, although, it would cause apprentice training to become a strenuous effort on Nathan's mind. Being required to deal with Demetria several times a month already sounded exhausting to the green-haired man; certainly, fate was being a despicable mistress giving him Demetria as an apprentice. The snappy remark his apprentice retorted with only made the male vampire's eyes roll again. The words maliciously shouted at him failed to bother Nathan in the slightest; the lieutenant of unit one spent plenty of time attempting to break him. Constantly, the old man would shout hateful comments and inform him on how he never belonged here. In the long run, it only made the male vampire more determined to prove the elder long.
[break][break]
The mere mention of the old man's involvement resulted in a now infamous eye roll from Nathan. The bitter man probably informed Demetria about his negative behaviour while granting limited information about the positives. When it was stated to be a pleasure to meet him, Nathan held firm to his doubts. They spent the first few minutes of the lesson bickering opposed to acting like student and mentor. When it finally arrived to work on the mentoring, Nathan led Demetria into the hallway to take her to the manor. They exited the building into the brisk, outside breeze, the vampire leading her towards the parking lot.
[break][break]
"My house, the equipment is specialized for vampire training. If you want to be trained right and well, then that is where we will go. The stuff there is simply better for our species training," Nathan explained. "Now c'mon, unless you want simple, rookie training in the gym."
[break][break]
A smirk graced his lips as he tugged open the driver's side door to get inside the car. Under most circumstances, the car was used for work transportation so neither himself or the manor's limo driver were required to wait for work to finish and one to arrive. Once inside, Nathan unlocked the doors and waited for Demetria to join him inside.
There were no limits to the attitude problems Nathan obtained over his years of growing up and pushing others away from him. The vampire despised the notion of those devastating emotions returning because of a recent loss; losing his brother was nearly unbearable for him. Losing Donovan fueled the decision to entirely cuts ties, Tristan being the only individual who managed to slip past Nathan's guard. Alas, managing to convince the vampire to pursue closeness remained difficult, his only interests in relationships being the attractive blond he brought inside on a cold winter day. Considering the green-haired man was close friends with Tristan during their high school years, rekindling their connection came naturally. After rescuing the human man from bullies on several occasions, the vampire theorized it created an attachment, although, Nathan could hardly complain. After years of pushing, having somebody to converse with daily became a nice pleasantry. While there were problems with pushing others away, Nathan never considered it a large enough issue to completely demolish; people were frightened of him, but he was willing to lend an ear to their ideas.
[break][break]
When Demetria began lecturing him about his attitude, Nathan rolled his eyes. In his eyes, the redhead was a disobedient nuisance who refused to listen to superiors. There were certain times where going against orders could assist in bettering the situation, but those moments were very few. A low growl escaped the male vampire's throat the longer Demetria proceeded to speak.
[break][break]
"Last time I checked, I didn't intentionally disobey you and nearly got myself killed," Nathan snapped back. "I've been here long enough to know that working together is important. By the way, I keep my attitude under control on the field because I'm not a fucking idiot."
[break][break]
Anger was evident in Nathan's voice, the young vampire already finding himself livid with his snippy apprentice. An irritated sigh escaped his lips as he proceeded to glare daggers at Demetria. This would certainly become an excruciatingly long day to suffer through; the task handed to him confirmed it.
[break][break]
"Anyways, the name's Nathan, but I imagine you know that considering they would have stated my name when they informed you on your mentor," he stated.
[break][break]
The mere mentioning of blood manipulation resulted in an exaggerated groan leaving Nathan; he hated demanding brats. While he could appreciate somebody who knew exactly what they desired, he despised Demetria's attempt to skip through the entirety of the lessons for blood manipulation. Slowly, Nathan returned to leaning against the far wall, his arms crossed while he scrutinized Demetria, assessing the state of her body. While vampires possessed strength and speed boosts, a quick assessment told plenty about diet, exercise and occasionally personality.
[break][break]
"You want to learn blood manipulation? Well, you gotta learn everything else first," he stated coldly. "I never wanted to be a mentor, but I'll be damned if I teach you blood manipulation and let you run out there."
[break][break]
Afterwards, Nathan walked towards the door, beckoning Demetria to follow. He wanted to accomplish training in his own way, which involved a gym and witnessing what exactly his apprentice would decide to do in verbally stated scenarios without guidance; he wanted a vague idea on how exactly Demetria would think, however, Nathan was aware where he wanted the other sessions to be staged. Due to Donovan's vampire-based self-defence training equipment, the manor's basement was built to teach control over a variety of abilities, unlike the more versatile gymnasium which was not vampire focused.
There was an evident annoyance in Demetria's attitude which allowed Nathan to be aware she disliked his late arrival, unfortunately, he could not muster an ounce of care over the notion. The vampire despised being handed an apprentice, especially considering he created his mask to avoid these interactions. Furthermore, they decided to provide him with Demetria of all the possibilities; he had hoped to never see her again after the Valentine's Day Dance! Unfortunately, there were higher-ups who decided somehow Nathan reserved the right to gain an apprentice to teach which the green-haired man knew he would be required to accomplish with excellence. The male vampire despised Demetria because of her attitude which proved to be difficult to handle, especially considering how disobedient she could be. He possessed more authority compared to Demetria when she was a meagre citizen and Nathan was attempting to protect her and her mysterious boyfriend. The notion of the female vampire being older mattered little to Nathan, but his eyes rolled because of the smirk which touched her face.
[break][break]
The training session would eventually be required to commence, however, Nathan was uncertain how he wanted to handle Demetria. While the male vampire enjoyed the action featured in hunter down terrors, the redhead only began her training recently. In Nathan's eyes, it left her unprepared to begin the more strenuous sections of training which left meagre lectures and perhaps some training practices. These were boredom inducing to the green-haired male, but unfortunately crucial for development as a hunter. The sudden mockery from his apprentice resulted in a low growl escaping Nathan's throat as he glared daggers at Demetria for her rude comment.
[break][break]
"SHUT UP!" The male vampire snapped. "You know, an attitude like that would get you killed out there. The TRS work in groups, as a team, so your reckless and disobedient behaviour will get you and everybody else SIX FEET IN THE GROUND! So the first lesson, tell me how you will fix your petty little attitude problem."
[break][break]
There were some who would believe perhaps Nathan was being over-dramatic, but emphasizing the importance of working with your fellow team members was essential to survival on the field. When he was younger, he desired to join the TRS similar to his brother, but because of his disobedience, Donovan suffered the consequences to rescue him. Instead of attempting to protect his brother, he ran away, searching for help which resulted in them returning too late to save him. Nowadays, the male vampire listened to other hunters, scouts and medics in an attempt to avoid somebody else dying from his mistakes.
There was a temptation to turn around and leave the room instead of training the redheaded brat he became acquainted with at the Valentine's Day dance. The information Nathan managed to acquire her behaviour from the dance, he could already guess she would be a hand full of trouble. Even as a meagre pedestrian, Demetria had refused to obey the commands of a TRS hunter who was assigned to protecting civilians. She placed herself in dangerous situations without forethought or thorough plans to survive those situations; he even needed to rescue her from harm. Furthermore, Demetria appeared to be hotheaded and defiant towards figures of authorities, which would include the mentor charged with teaching her. The mentioning of being late was met with an eye roll as Nathan provided an exaggerated, annoyed sigh. Already the male vampire could imagine how horrendously these lessons would proceed because of the stubborn, reckless attitude his apprentice. After a few moments, Nathan retreated to the front and leaned against the wall, staring at Demetria.
[break][break]
The annoyance the green-haired adult felt was evident on his face, which scowled at the young woman he would be forced to train. He would not allow her to pass easily, especially considering the attitude she displayed during their initial meeting and to prove he was not a pushover.
[break][break]
A simple shrug was provided when Demetria inquired about apprentices. "You're the first one, so I suppose so," he grumbled. "Now listen up, newbie! I am the boss, you disobey what I say, you get punished and lessons may get delayed if you show that nasty little attitude of yours. That kind of reckless, irresponsible behaviour will get you killed, and I imagine you don't have a death sentence."
[break][break]
A stern, coldness captured Nathan's tone as he proceeded to nonchalantly lean against the far wall, staring his apprentice down with his yellow-green eyes. While the male vampire disliked Demetria immensely, he would not allow her to continue these absurd decisions that could cause a premature death. Even he could manage to place aside his prideful and arrogant nature to listen to the commands of his senior officers; they frequently provided excellent advice. The TRS was a machine, each member playing their part to keep the mechanism's going, thus a failure in a single area could result in the death of many. These were the consequences of being placed in charge of the protection of civilians from a dangerous group of people. There were plenty of ideas that arrived with becoming a hunter, some coping better than others in the face of frightening circumstances.
