Welcome to The Duality of Man, an original animanga role-play that features numerous supernatural creatures. Unfortunately, these various species have distanced themselves because of the war that occurred thousands of years ago, plaguing some with eyes that only see their dualism. While others meddle themself with their differences, two groups fight, each attempting to eliminate the other in for their definition of worldly peace. These two groups of the Terror Response Syndicate (TRS) and the Assembly of Phantoms (AP). With individuals fighting merely over their differences, it brings uncertainty to the outcome of this war.
We happily accept all role-players as long as they obey the rules and are capable of meeting our word count of 50. This does include those who are unfamiliar with this style of role-playing. The staff of The Duality of Man are willing to happily help those who are new to the role-playing world so they feel comfortable on site. Feel free to message the staff if you need help, they can be found here or in the site Discord and will gladly answer questions alongside calm concerns. If you have any suggestions we would love to hear them; guests may use the support board as a suggestion area as well. Should you decide to join, may I say welcome to the site and we all hope you enjoy your time here.

Summer 2024
Heat has broken through into a glorious summer. The snow has entirely dried through the spring, leaving to the brilliance of the warmer months. Terror activity has risen as people are brought out of their homes, leaving the TRS in a position of consistent work. Each are attempting to maintain victory in the endless struggle for power.
Since the wonderful members of TDOM enjoy the site enough to play around on it, this thread is to assist with the site's tidying! Functionality is important and we want to make the site functional even if its activity will be minimal at best!

[attr=class, bulk] There was nothing particularly special about Valentine’s Day in Roy’s mind. Throughout his youth, the band bandits he once labelled family never celebrated the occasion. The meaning of discovering somebody to settle down with was foreign to the boogeyman. While he self-indulged with flings and drinking occasionally, he never understood the true definition of love. It manifested a curiosity which mingled with the Assembly’s desires. There was word prominent TRS members would be attending the event, meaning there was an opportunity to gain valuable intel.
[break][break]
Unfortunately, despite those curiosities on the elusive notions of love, Roy found himself desiring a fling opposed to a relationship. When the time arrived, he rose from his position on the couch and turned off the TV. He walked down the hallway into his bedroom before sliding through the clothes in his closet. He planned on being semi-formal with his chosen ensemble to assure a subtle classy atmosphere while not over-doing it. With those thoughts locked in his mind, he grabbed a white dress shirt and blue jeans.
[break][break]
The previous clothes were striped and tossed unceremoniously into the hamper. The jeans were tugged over his hips, the boogeyman ensuring they sat properly on his legs. Moments later they were buttoned, zipped and accented with a black leather belt. The ends of the belt were left to dangle as Roy fetched the white dress shirt and slid it over his muscular arms. The bottom of the shirt was pushed inside his jeans to complete the semi-formal look he desired. Buttons were done up by fluent finger movements before being followed by the buckling of his belt.
[break][break]
The soft dings of the moving buckle reached his ears as he adjusted the size. When everything was adjusted, Roy entered the washroom. The green-haired man gave a satisfied smile to his reflection before brushing his hair. He planned nothing particularly fancy for the appearance of his hair. A mere brushing displayed a fine image without wasting obnoxious amounts of time on preparations. A large grin stretched across Roy’s face as he admired himself for a few moments. After a few moments, he exited the washroom.
[break][break]
He walked through his bathroom, grabbing his keys and wallet off the counter alongside his cellphone. They were shoved into Roy's jean pockets. A jacket was grabbed and tugged over his shoulders, but left open because of preference. Shoes were quickly slipped on before leaving the house to close and lock the door behind him. The green-haired man headed to his vehicle, unlocking it and getting inside. He pushed the key and turned it, his car roaring to life as it was ignited. Once prepared, he pulled away from his home to accomplish the one hour drive to Lorsette.
[break][break]
The boogeyman enjoyed his hour drive to Lorsette, his eyes fixating on the road, but occasionally wandering to admire the beauty. He prepared himself to accomplish his goals, first to try and gather information for the Assembly and later to attempt to persuade his date into a different type of company. As he arrived in the city, he remembered the directions and followed them to the expected location. When he arrived at the restaurant, he parked his vehicle and exited to head inside of the restaurant. He approached the front desk, where he provided his name.
[break][break]
A man escorted him into the main area where the blind dates would be taking place. People were already enjoying themselves, engaging in conversation and attempting to find love. Roses were placed on the tables as expected, they were a romance cliche after all. The restaurant scene was pleasant with a subtle fanciness, but not overdoing it. He felt comfortable in the situation, capable of fitting in because of his clothing choices. He slipped off his jacket, draping it over his arm as he was informed the location of his table.
[break][break]
The boogeyman strode towards the table, planning on sitting down and meeting his date. Hopefully they could provide valuable information or give him some enjoyment.

they literally had to push him out the door. he hadn't planned on going. at the time, when he had signed up he was all for it. he was trying something new. usually he was busy with his studies to have fun. though now that the time came he was hesitating. it was too much out of his comfort zone. his sister had been the one to encourage him and now she was the one kicking him out the door.
he wasn't going to be rude. what if he was the first one to show up and his date decided not to show up. no, he didn't want to go through that and he was certainly not going to make someone feel the same way. besides it wasn't like his sister was giving him a choice. the restaurant was fancy right? clearly he was under-dressed. he wore dark wash jeans and a dark green button up. he managed to grab his jacket and keys. he ran his fingers through his hair before jumping into his car.
a couple minutes later he had arrived at the restaurant. it seemed like this was turning out to to be a popular event. then again it was scheduled for valentines day. honestly he didn't see what the big deal was. to him it was just another day. it seemed awfully fake to him, but whatever he wasn't going to ruin this day for anyone else. he spotted a couple of tables filled up already. he checked the time on his phone. he wasn't late was he? no sooner had he pulled out his phone had he been approached and brought to his date's table. they had already been waiting for him."have you been waiting long? sorry."harvey smiled apologetically before draping his coat on his chair and sitting down.[break]

[attr=class, bulk] The table assigned to Roy and his mysterious date was currently empty, proving him to be the first arrival. Stationed in the center of the round table was a vase containing a gorgeous bouquet of roses. Some were red while others possessed a more pinkish tinge to their petals. Draped over the table's surface was a white tablecloth, the accents having a heart-shaped pattern around the edges. As Roy glanced over, he noticed the papery name tags with names and hearts drawn onto them along with other romantic themes to symbolize Valentine's Day.
[break][break]
Quietly, the green-haired man looked over at the name tag for his partner for the evening. From there, he discovered the individual's name was Harvey, which he supposed was useful information. He casually rounded the table, pulling out the adjacent chair to settle himself. Once sitting, he patiently waited for the arrival of his partner for the evening. His green eyes surveyed the area, noting anybody he recognized as TRS or Assembly as they walked to settle at their respective tables. Hopefully Harvey was not the formulated alias for a member of the Assembly, else information gathering would be fruitless.
[break][break]
People were discovering their seats and taking residence in their respective seats while he remained alone. A somewhat amused smile played onto Roy's face. Did his date decide to ditch the blind date? Should that be the reality, it handed the boogeyman the opportunity to watch those around him. Yet, only moments later did a young, blue-haired man entered through the front doors of the restaurant. The man was under-dressed, but Roy merely shrugged it off; perhaps someone running late. The man was guided to his table by one of the event staff. As they approached, the green-haired man favour the person he assumed was "Harvey" with a lip-tight grin.
[break][break]
From what Roy was aware, this man was not associated with the Assembly of Phantoms which was a start. As an apology left the blue-haired man's lips, the laid-back informant gave him a shrug.
[break][break]
"Don't worry about it," Roy responded, leaning back in his chair. "Anyways, I'm Roy and you?"
[break][break]
There was a possibility tables were switched up because of last minute cancellations, therefore, he wished the verify the stranger's name. Plus, requesting it would make the informant appear less snoopy about the present situation.

he was kind of hoping they would arrive at the same time or that he wouldn't be the last to arrive. though it seemed like his date was a bit quicker. he was quick to apologize. this was all new to him. let's be honest, he rarely did this. okay he never did this. it had been quite some time since he had gone out on a date, okay it's been a while since he dated. though he knew this wasn't necessarily going to lead to that. how could someone instantly click. all that love at first sight stuff was hard to believe. despite being here, that wasn't why harvey had come out. he figured it would be fun to hang out with someone new. why he thought that was beyond him.
he made himself comfortable. well as much as he could. a glance around the restaurant had let him know, he was not wearing the proper attire. this wasn't his kind of scene, so it was to be expected. not that his date knew this. well, it was too late to head home and change. points for dressing comfortably."nice to meet you, i'm harvey."[break]

[attr=class, bulk] The arrival of his date was pleasantly accompanied with some perfect timing. Throughout his patient waiting, Roy was capable of surveying the room and learning the faces of guests, guards and servers. He had observed the room itself as well, ensuring there were exits and locations to vacate the premises if needed. He noticed the Valentine's Day decorations, strategic placement of guards and where the servants filtered through with plans of taking orders. The mission requirements were operating smoothly, except for the identity of his date.
[break][break]
Based on Roy's knowledge of TRS officials, the blue-haired man who approached was not among them. Alas, it would be nearly impossible to verify until he gathered more information. Ward medics existed and frequently, they were tucked away into the precious safety of their headquarters. His comfortable dressed date settled in the seat adjacent from Roy. The green-haired man watched him, wearing a friendly smile for the young man who joined him. Moments after providing his name, his date reciprocated and introduced himself as Harvey.
[break][break]
"Nice to meet you too," Roy began, preparing to engage in small talk. "So, Harvey, what do you do for a living?"
[break][break]
If anybody asked about his occupation, the informant planned on claiming he was an investigator. The role involved information gathering and would make the actions taken on this evening less questionable. The surveying of the area and curious attitude hopefully explained with a simple answer.

so far things were not going too badly. considering he was a little late and his date was already sitting at the table. he didn't seemed to bothered by it and that made harvey feel a bit better, but still. he tried to be as punctual as possible, not only on dates, just in general.
after getting situated, the introductions began. it was only natural for conversations to start off slowly. he wasn't the greatest to start off conversations, but did it make it worse that this was a date? was there more pressure here? he wasn't going to think about it. there was no need to get nervous over nothing. it seemed like roy had a question prepared. oh that was going to be a fun question to answer.
it's not that he didn't want him to know, it's just that the job title always seemed to glamorized in a way, well at least to him."actually i'm taking a few college classes. i'm studying to be a vet."he told him with a nod."what about you?" [break]

[attr=class, bulk] The informant’s violet eyes observed his date meanwhile his ears greedily listened to those around them. Gathering the facts the Assembly of Phantoms desired was crucial to gaining success in those fields. Now he required a date with a TRS standing to assure he could persuade some information. The boogeyman favoured Harvey with the friendliest smile possible without providing a creepy vibe. Information gathering involved some minor forms of “manipulation” in the form of presenting oneself properly. An open and amiable presentation would persuade the loosening of lips under most circumstances.
[break][break]
Alas, Roy would find himself somewhat disappointed when Harvey answered the question. Rather than anything significant to the TRS, the man proved to be something entirely different. A mere student, studying veterinary medicine. In short, somebody who could potentially prefer animals rather than people. It meant information could be meaningless for the Assembly of Phantoms considering it pertained to proper animal care and administration of medicine. Nonetheless, Roy decided to change his attentions and search for entertainment.
[break][break]
"I'm a private investigator," he answered with a smile. "It's pretty enjoyable. Are you excited to become a vet, Harvey?"
[break][break]
The lie was provided with smoothness, hesitation nonexistent in his words. The former bandit found lying easy, thus the regular calls from dishonesty were diminished compared to others. He was a skillful man in those regards. Furthermore, he inquired about Harvey's occupation in hopes of keeping the attention away from his lie. He could fabricate a statement, but Roy preferred the notion of avoiding it.

was that going to change their opinion of him? it was fine after all he really wasn't here to score more dates. he was far to busy with his studies, not to mention his current job. he couldn't really complain, it's not like that was hindering from going out on dates. harvey was just to busy to try. which is why his sister had signed him up in the first place. he needed to go out and relax a bit. valentines day was probably not the best day to do it. let alone, making him nervous about meeting his blind date.
despite saying he didn't care, he still wanted to leave a good impression. they had gotten onto the topic of jobs and it was only natural for harvey to ask him the same. he nodded as roy told him he was a private investigator."so you're your own boss. that must be nice."he said with a small chuckle.
he nodded at his question. he felt like such a child just nodding his head. clearly there was a reason he wanted to become a vet. there was an obvious connection with other animals and him. simply that he could become one as well."i've kind of always been around animals, even as a kid."he said giving a quick explanation."what about you? what made you become a private investigator?"he asked curiously.[break]

[attr=class, bulk] A smile decorated Roy's countenance as he interacted with his date for the evening. Since he was gifted a date without a Terror Response Syndicate connection, he would consider searching for something different. A fling was still a viable option if he could attract this future veterinarian into his bed. Nonetheless, the green-haired man planned on eavesdropping when the opportunities presented themselves. Two goals, both involving this single event, but only one requiring the participation of his special date of the evening.
[break][break]
Naturally, Roy's offer would only surface if Harvey was displaying an interest in him, otherwise, extending the invitation would be futile. Their discussion about jobs was an excellent ice-breaker between them. They were promptly conversing with one another and gaining the start of a bond between them. When the blue-haired man mentioned Roy being his own boss, the boogeyman granted him a soft chuckle. A gentle nod was provided in response to the question, however, the green-haired man did not elaborate on the details.
[break][break]
Quietly, he listened to Harvey's reasons for becoming a vet, even providing a few nods to prove he was listening. In a way, the informant was correct about the man enjoying the company of animals. The question was returned, a smile grazing Roy's face.
[break][break]
"Well, I just find people intriguing. I am a bit of a crime enthusiast," Roy explained happily.
[break][break]
The explanation was simple and something Roy could easily fake with his shady past and criminal occupation. These lies were done smoothly, without hesitation because of his dishonest tendencies. The man was trained in the art of fabrication.

that was a good enough reason right? he was being honest. he just had a bit of extra help with his abilities. why wouldn't he want to put that to use. sure there were other things that he could do, but it didn't interest him as much. harvey had asked the question in return. it seemed like they might be doing that for quite a bit. perhaps harvey should come up with questions of his own.
he listened as roy told him his reasons for becoming a private investigator. he smiled."so you must enjoy psychology too?"he asked curiously. he had almost asked why he didn't go into psychology, but when he said he was a crime enthusiast, that explained it all. that wasn't to say that he couldn't like both things. he was right, people were intriguing. it was very interesting to learn how the mind worked. how people could do the things they did, or why they did what they did. he cleared his throat as he tried to think of a question. more trying to get to know roy and make it seem less like an interrogation."so what do you like to do on your days off?"[break]

[attr=class, bulk] The progression of their date was moving wonderfully, at least in Roy's opinion. There was nobody being upset about the arrangements and the small talk was managing to proceed without hindrance. It was pleasant participating in their conversation, especially when he thought about the potential of getting something out of it. If he proceeded to act suave and charming, he could potentially land himself a more enjoyable night. Hence, a pleasant smile stretched across Roy's lips as he accomplished a second analysis of his partner.
[break][break]
There was definitely an attractive quality to Harvey, thus a fling could be a worthwhile endeavour for the boogeyman. He did enjoy his lustful ventures. Now hopefully he could maintain this positive air and persuade his acquaintance into a different situation, if it was called for. Fortunately, dots were already being connected by his blue-haired date for the evening. Naturally, Harvey mentioned an interest in psychology which was truthful given his feigned occupation. An investigator required some knowledge in psychology after all.
[break][break]
"Yes, that would be right. Finding out why criminals do the things they do is an interesting aspect of the job," Roy responded casually.
[break][break]
Before he could attempt another question, Harvey began clearing his voice. The smile broadened when it seemed the blue-haired man was keen on inquiring about more things. The topic shifted to time away from work. A charmer's smile graced his face as he leaned closer.
[break][break]
"Honestly, I enjoy a good drink, you know?" Roy answered, contentment in his voice. "What about you, my date?"
[break][break]
There was a smoothness to his voice as Roy attempted to charm his date. If he wanted to succeed in his task, he needed to make his date feel special.

okay this wasn't so bad. so far so good, he hadn't embarrassed himself. there wasn't any awkward silences which was a plus. the more they talked the less nervous harvey started to feel. he had to be honest, he felt so out of place here. it probably didn't help, that he wasn't used to these kinds of things. even outside events like this harvey refused to go on blind dates. so why was this different? well apart from his sister's threats. which he really didn't take all that serious. he was actually curious to see what it was all about.
harvey smiled and nodded, glad his assumption had been correct about roy liking psychology. somethings sort of just went together. eventually harvey had finally thought about asking his own question. he hoped he hadn't interrupted. he figured it was a good of a topic as any. he shook his head slightly."oh that's cool. i actually don't drink much, you might have to recommend something for me to try."he chuckled softly.
he had been expecting the question to be redirected at him, just not in that manner. it had surprised him and caused him to flush slightly. he tried to play it off as he responded."uh, i like to go hiking, or just walk around nature and such. if there's anything good playing i try to catch a movie at least once a month."he needed to stop before he started to ramble.

[attr=class, bulk] Their date was progressing swimmingly, or in stereotypical thief language, it was like stealing candy from a baby. There were hardly any spaces of dead air between and they seemed to be managing a friendly conversation. Then again, these types of dating situations were frequently used for the primary objective of acquiring platonic relationships, if not, the beginnings of romantic ones. The only situation where the main goal could be otherwise were circumstances of being signed up without one's knowledge or by another individual.
[break][break]
Admittedly, due to the pleasantry in their interaction, Roy believed Harvey signed himself up. The man claimed to be a bodyguard and perhaps a social one. This arrived him at the possible conclusion of the blue-haired man considering this a valuable investment of his free time, or rather, something relaxing and enjoyable. Unfortunately, the green-haired former Bandit King could hardly gather that information without shifting their chat into awkward territory. Thus, Roy remained hushed, deciding it better to allow their interaction to proceed without hindrance.
[break][break]
The man stated he did not drink often, bring the soft curls of a smile to his face.
[break][break]
"Well, if you're interested, maybe we could indulge in some wine over our dinner? If you are comfortable with that of course," Roy suggested to his date.
[break][break]
Wine was not among the green-haired man's favoured drinks, he preferred hard liquor. Alas, given it was a night out, he could reasonably indulge a little. Quietly, Roy nodded to Harvey's words as the man stated his hobbies. Based on his primary hobbies, the man enjoyed spending time in nature.
[break][break]
"Do you enjoy camping then?" Roy questioned out of curiosity.
[break][break]
Centuries ago, the boogeyman lived among a bandit troop where their homes were meagre tents. It was essentially constant camping, thus bringing up the topic was somewhat nostalgic. Despite his betrayal, Roy somewhat missed the days where he would be lying under stars or sitting by a campfire. It was something peaceful.

harvey nodded at his words. surely it wouldn't hurt him to try."sure, that's fine with me. of course i'd let you pick as clearly i know nothing about wines and such."he said with a small chuckle. he couldn't recall what he had to drink first when he became of age. honestly he didn't see the appeal. sure their were drinks out there that didn't taste bad, but he figured those were the most dangerous. anything that tasted like juice was surely quick to be consumed.
he couldn't really say he had wine before. though he's heard about the different types and it really made no sense to him. white, red, robust and whatever other words were used to describe the liquid. he only heard of them because his parents were wine drinkers.
he nodded once more at his words."yes, though i can't say that i do it often."he enjoyed watching the stars and feeling at peace. it was those moments he enjoyed and didn't have a care in the world. though like he said, he couldn't remember the last time he had gone camping. whether that be with his family or his friends."what about you?"

[attr=class, bulk] Curiosity gleamed in Roy's light violet eyes, a soft shimmer enhanced by the fluorescent lighting of the restaurant. Lady Luck shined upon him by granting a favourable date for the evening. Somebody easy to converse with and low-maintenance. The last thing the former bandit craved was a prissy whiner who endlessly requested items to fill their materialistic hankering. A soft grin tightly embraced the boogeyman's face, refusing to leave throughout the course of this date. Things were progressing wonderfully!
[break][break]
The beverage offered was remembered in Roy's mind as the infamous reddish liquid made from grapes and given some definition of alcohol. The green-haired man proved not to be a wine connoisseur by any definition. He was primarily concerned with the drink having some type of liquor inside. As his date agreed to enjoy a glass of wine with him, Roy favoured him with a content smile. With those words, the boogeyman waved a waiter order, his notepad and pen at the ready to take their orders. Oh, yes, this was an eating type date; his species never required regular food.
[break][break]
"A glass of red wine for my date and I," Roy requested, pausing until the waiter went to speak. "And nothing to eat, I don't need anything like that, but I recommend taking Harvey's order."
[break][break]
When the orders were taken, the waiter retreated into the kitchen to give their request in. The man's attention returned to his date, listening to his answers on camping. The return of the question brought a subtle hint of enjoyment as nostalgic memories flowed through Roy's mind.
[break][break]
"I use to camp a lot, I have always enjoyed it. It was peaceful, sitting around the campfire with friends. Those were great times," Roy's voice trailed into a slight sadness, but he quickly recovered. "I recommend it if you enjoy nature."
[break][break]
When the bandits accepted him, they had joyous nights sitting beneath the stars, sharing stories and mourning those lost... He remembered his adopted mother, the woman endlessly determined to protect him... he wished she was still here. When nobody wanted him, she scooped him into her arms and gave him affection. The remainder of those bandits tainted a majority of those positive memories... The accursed traitors... they nearly killed him! They deserved to rot in the abyss or inside a jail cell.
