roy demetris i was once a king of sorts, but i lost my kingdom. general info
appearance As a tall, slender man, Roy stands at a height of 6’2”. Based off a fleeting glance, Roy appears rather average with his slender frame, most believing he hardly possess muscle. Alas, they would be mistaken in the assumption. While Roy’s work consists of gathering information, he still maintains his strength for less-favourable situations. Across his body are lean muscles, reaching the length of giving Roy the outline of abs on his stomach. From consistently wrapping himself up or staying out of the sun, Roy keeps a pale complexion. His ties as a boogeyman makes him burn easily, thus he usually wears sunscreen and sunglasses whenever he is out during daylight hours. Scars on Roy’s skin is a common trait, both from his years along with the dangerous situations he has been placed in. Most have faded with time, some being evident around the knuckles with a few faint ones across his back and torso. They appear to have been created by swords or knives, however, their fadedness makes it near-impossible to determine their origin nowadays. The stronger nature of Roy’s face grants him attractively places cheekbones and slender features. A pair of cheekbones are placed high-set into his face, below them leading down to a strong chin. His chin is slightly pointed with a rounded edge. Between his is the bridge to a pointed, albeit, average sized nose. A pair of enchanting, light violet eyes frequently capture the attention of others when people gaze upon Roy’s face. They are beautiful and one of the few gifts his mother could provide him. He has longer lashes, the type of eyelashes most girls searching for conventional beauty desire. Oftentimes, they enhance his eyes, however, usually in a more feminine manner. Flowing from his head is well-kept semi-short hair known for being of the straighter variety. The colour of his hair is a lighter variant of forest green, making for a more toned down version of the dark colour. Under most circumstances, it is properly parted to maintain a handsome face for the people of Aria Village. When on missions based around breaking and entering, Roy does cover his entire face with the exception of his eyes. Clothing constantly changes depending on Roy’s plans for the day. Normal days in Lorsette or Aria feature Roy picking casual attire, the types of clothes which allow him to blend in with those around him. Simplicity assists with gathering information, therefore, he uses casual clothing to accomplish these tasks or on special days he will wear semi-formal garbs. On break in missions. Roy’s entire body is usually covered in cloth. A scarf wrapped tightly around his face, hiding his nose and jawline while a secured hood hides his hair. He wears plenty of clothing, making it difficult to even decipher his body type when he is on missions. personality
abilities Dream Manipulation -- Intermediate The ability to enter and manipulate dreams, altering them and allowing the user to accomplish what they please inside the dream world. Frequently, Roy uses his dream manipulation for his indulgence rather than harming others. As a result, his dream world is passive, nobody being able to injure him and similarly he cannot harm others. He can only minimally manipulate the dreams of others. Under most circumstances, Roy either enjoys himself with a wonderful dream or will connect to the dreams of people he needed information from. While inside a dream, Roy’s body enters a sleep mode, rendering him unconscious and vulnerable. Illusion Manipulation -- Mastered The ability to conjure illusions to fool the 5 senses, allowing the person to effectively deceive people in those categories. While feeling can be fooled, these illusions can only have lasting mental effects opposed to physical. Illusions are powerful things in Roy’s opinion, these being effectively used throughout his reign as the Bandit King and for years in the future. Sight is the easiest sense to deceive, a simple darting of a foriegn shadow or a cloak of deception. Roy can even successfully make disguises out of this ability if he wishes. Hearing, smell, taste and touch can be fooled, however, these are less effective than sight. Those with certain enhanced senses have the possibility of seeing through these illusions. Mass-scale illusions are possible for Roy, however, it takes plenty of effort to orchestrate these productions and furthermore a creative mind. Whenever these illusions are made, they feed off of Roy’s energy, thus depleting him of the energy gathered if caution is not taken. While Roy does feed off fear itself, sustaining himself during mass-scale illusions is immensely difficult because of the amount of energy being used. Curses -- Intermediate The ability to place curses on others, making bad things happen to the intended individual. Minor afflictions are caused by Roy’s curses, manifesting punishments such as bad luck. The curses merely increase minor issues, like the probability of stubbing your toe. Other times they make the intended individual sick or various small things. Cursed weaponry or anything particularly dangerous cannot be created by Roy. As a result, Roy lacks lethality with curses, the magic only temporarily affecting the intended victim. Curses from Roy last a couple of days before wearing off. Fear Inducement -- Advanced The ability to induce fear onto other people, causing fright even when it is not warranted or expected. As a boogeyman, Roy feeds off the fear around him, requiring it to sustain himself opposed to food or proper sleep. Due to his feasting requirements, Roy’s capabilities in fear inducement have been improved greatly. Abruptly, he can cause people to feel intense fear, oftentimes, towards him. Formerly, he required fear to hold his standing as a leader, only making his skillfulness better. Alas, people can still fight through the fearful sensations, allowing them to accomplish the required objective. Under most circumstances, inconsistent use makes the ability an excellent stun. Using his fear inducement eats up little energy, thus allowing him to feast to satisfaction, alas, over-use can diminish the effectiveness as the intended target adjusts to feeling scared. Naturals: Night Vision, Self-sustenance, Immortality backstory TRIGGER WARNINGS: Domestic Abuse, Violence An ideal life never existed in Roy’s childhood, his parents being nothing more than a thief and a prostitute. When his mother carried him to term and gave birth, it was surprising she did not throw him away immediately. The child was kept, half raised by his mother and whatever drunken slob she persuaded a deal from for the evening. Life was a bleak thing, sheltered by menacing shadows and adult topics children should never be exposed to. Days passed, the infant knowing his mother’s face, her voice and remembering faint, muffled sounds from her occupation. Nobody helped her, attempted to save her darkened wings from years of sin, however, it was simply the way things were. In the large village they dubbed home, the memories from War of Traitors kept their claws sank into the people there. Divisions were common, Hell species long considered lowly compared to those captured in Akari’s grace. Daily, Roy’s mother worked hard in a desperate attempt to help her child survive. Never did she desired children, however, somewhere inside was a caring heart unwilling to allow her accident to survive motherless. She was a caring woman, however, her career led to dangerous stalkers and unfavourable admirers. Only a few years passed until someone particularly abusive entered the home, Roy’s mother narrowly fighting him off when he attempted to choke her. She was fortunate to force the man out of the borrowed hotel room, however, a realization dawned when she heard the crying of her two-year-old child. Tears entered her eyes for despite not being a fan of children, she bonded with her precious child. Words escaped her lips in a quiet mumble. I’m sorry… I’m so sorry… For two years she kept her dearest child, but it appeared raising Roy herself was a dangerous game. If she perished, what if he was left alone? Starving, cold and without anybody to protect him. Only a day later did she gathered supplies to depart from the town, hurrying to escape unseen. Heaven species hated them here, and she required a place to have her son be raised. Alas, somebody followed her down that lonesome path where she searched for escape, her child bundled in a basket. She walked near a river, paranoid unable to shake the feeling of being followed. A single glance over her shoulder allowed her to see the man who nearly strangled her to death. Immediately, she began sprinting, a scream escaping her lips as she hurried away, but the man was fast. Footsteps became louder, the boy’s mother panicked, searching for an escape until her green eyes locked with the river. In a moment of desperation, the woman entered the fast moving waters, knowing that there would be a sliver of a chance for survival. Once inside the currents she was swept away, the basket she clung to floating above as her distraught child cried. The further they travelled, the rougher the currents got until it separated mother from child. A shrill scream escaped his mother’s throat as she called his name, but nothing could be done. Miraculously, the basket remained upright throughout Roy’s river adventure, the child washing on shore. Anybody would expect the young boy to perish, however, he was discovered by a female bandit who always desired a child. Years ago she had perished, her undead state making her unable to become of child. She glanced around, finding no signs of the boy’s mother before scooping him up and hurrying to her camp to show off her recent discovery. The other bandits were surprised by the woman’s discovery. Everybody murmured about how their leader would feel, the man they feared most. When the older gentleman exited his tent, he showed disdain for the bandit, whose name was Maria, stating she would be expected to care for the infant herself. People could assist her, however, she was the one who would provide for the green-haired child. As somebody who always wished to become a mother, Maria nodded hastily and carried the child to her tent. There he received the name he would become renowned as, Roy Demetris, adopted son of Maria Demetris. Raised among bandits, Roy was shown the frequent traits and learned their ways from a young age. In the beginning, Maria provided for him, however, she would need assistance to keep Roy healthy. Thus, the child learned the ways of bandits, his adopted mother showing him how to use his abilities. He was always told Maria was not his biological mother, however, Roy found himself happily spending time with the woman who raised him. At the mere age of 8, he was learning to pickpocket and steal from other people.Their troop of bandits accomplished what was needed to survive alongside committed crimes for their own enjoyment. Growing up around them made Roy a natural when it came to the tasks of a bandit, he was raised for it by being around bandits from a young age. The environment around him was prepared to flesh him into somebody destined for a path of crime and it was embraced by the young boy. However… one thing was learned very quickly by Roy… Fear ruled their bandit troop, nothing else, the iron-fisted leader frightening everybody into obeying. It was the way of criminals, a way which he admired. There was always food for the young boogeyman, but even from a young age, Roy’s thoughts would wander to a single thought. His species was designed to manifest fear, thus, should he not eventually rise to become the leader of the bandits? Those thoughts spun in Roy’s mind, however, he kept silent about his beliefs, focusing on his criminal work for the time being. Alas, in secret he would train the necessary abilities for his ambitious future. He wanted to become the leader, the one devising the plans and conquering with fear. Fate placed him on this road and he planned to follow. As time went on, Roy became a greedy member of the bandits, thus he desired the power… one day… he would get power. Around when Roy was 16, tragedy struck as the group of bandits departed to rob the carriage of a wealthy nobleman. There were many guards, arrows flying, grunts of pain and screams of agony filled the air. The bandits sprung into action, wielding their weapons and fighting against the guards to pillage the carriage. Inside would be coin galore alongside precious items they could receive money for. Chaos surrounded Roy as he fought for his life, falchion slicing through the guards as he dodged and weaved. He was never one for physical brawls, but the choices were limited. Somewhere he heard Maria cry out his name, the young man turning to narrowly block a sword. The man was experienced, eventually casting his sword away with a strong horizontal slash. The metal blade shone in the light as it was lifted, Roy flinching as he tripped and fell to the ground, prepared to meet his end. She arrived quick… the flash of a hunter dagger plunging into the man’s gut while his sword fell on her neck. The young man’s eyes opened, widening as he witnessed the blood spray and the woman who raised him topple to the ground, lifeless. Maria always wanted a child, and she refused to allow her only son to die, even if he was merely adopted. He was hastily to crawl over to her, hiding them as a rock with the use of his illusion as he held her close, teary eyed. Mom?! MOM?! He knew she would have died upon impact, but sorrow constricted his heart as he cried. He held her tight, the blood soaking his clothes not being a concern, all that mattered was his mother… His precious mother… When everything was finished, the illusion fell, Roy rising with his mother still cradled in his arms. That evening, there was a funeral, and Roy Demetris was left motherless again. Despite her absence, Roy kept training, determined to make the woman who raised him for years proud. Through the years, he prepared for the moment where he could take control from the group. On a warm autumn eve the moment would arrive when some of the bandits went on a mission with the leader and returned home with grim news. Their leader was dead and Roy assumed they did the dirty work, however, as everybody fought for control, he was prepared. Abruptly, Roy activated his fear inducement, giving it power as his illusions manifested horrible visions. I will be the leader, anybody who questions it will be killed right on the spot Compassion was lacking, pure menace filling Roy’s voice and those bandits quiet and nodded. At that point, Roy ruled, his tactful thinking making him a favoured leader, however, he was greatly feared, strict and greedy. During his rule, authorities gave him the nickname The Bandit King from both his leadership and the greedy manner he hoarded loot. Citizens never knew his name, his face always covered and only a voice being placed to the character. For centuries, he kept control over the troop, nobody unable of uprooting him from the position. The green-haired man was feared and strong having trained for the moment where he could steal leadership of the troop. However, years were passing and his fellow bandits were growing displeased with their leader’s greedy ways. They complained frequently, but were brushed off as Roy foolishly believe he could continue ruling with fear and tactfulness. One evening, they went on a mission, and the bandits believed the time arrived to murder their leader. They attacked, Roy narrowly avoiding as his eyes widened. He yelled at them, but nobody would listen as they all fixated on a single goal, getting the power. Without an ally beside him, Roy fled, discovering a location to hide while his heart thumped in his chest. An illusion was conjured, his former teammates discovering it and killing the fake without realizing their leader lived on. As they returned home planning on bearing grim news, Roy sat beneath the bridge of a lonely creek bed. A frown planted on his face as he realized he would be alone in this world. His troop no longer desired his presence, they were merely a group of traitors looking out for themselves. Hours passed before Roy finally rose from the creek bed, a plan passing through his head as he walked towards the closest town. He purchased parchment with the coins he had on him alongside some ink before writing down the exact whereabouts of the troop who betrayed him. Come evening, it was secured to the guard’s door and acted upon almost immediately, Roy merely lingering long enough to watch the horses depart from a safe location. Afterwards, he left, deciding to take his leave rather than linger where he could potentially be caught. He travelled everywhere, making his money through theft in order to survive on his journey. He was uncertain how many of his former allies were captured, but he heard the rumours of how the so-called Bandit King was not there and claimed to be dead. Nobody knew he was the infamous man who led them through some of their golden years except the people who believed they killed him on that evening… Alas… Roy got vengeance. He travelled around plenty, enjoying himself, swindling people and betraying those he saw as untrustworthy until he was approached by a mysterious man. A disguiser who offered him a place amidst the Assembly of Phantoms. They held proof of his lying and stealing and promised betrayal would lead to execution. Yet, Roy fancied the notion of joining the Assembly... his criminal actions would be condoned and useful... Thus the former bandit agreed and enrolled as an informant. Years were spent with Roy having to prove his loyalty, alas, the man could hardly complain as he got paid for betraying others and giving the Assembly information. When trust was granted, they requested for him to move to Lorsette, which he agreed. He settled there, finding a home in Aria and his power-hungry stomach quenched after being betrayed first. Later, he discovered a surprisingly attractive blue-haired man, and promptly flirted his way into fling. Indulging oneself was always a blessing, but this mysterious man was strange… he wanted to know more... misc - Likes: Hard liquor, stealing, gathering information, snakes, water, camping, nature, the Assembly, relaxing, mystery novels, flings, covering his face, deceiving others, money, expensive items, stealth, horror movies, the horror genre - Dislikes: Horrible fathers, losing, moralistic individuals, seriousness, gum, mint chocolate, Heaven species, stereotypes, assumptions, being recognized as the Bandit King, confined spaces, locks, prisons, iron bars, loud noises - Fears: His former comrades, being trapped - He keeps his favoured weapon which is a falchion sword. - In his younger years he was referred to as the Bandit King.
