Welcome to The Duality of Man, an original animanga role-play that features numerous supernatural creatures. Unfortunately, these various species have distanced themselves because of the war that occurred thousands of years ago, plaguing some with eyes that only see their dualism. While others meddle themself with their differences, two groups fight, each attempting to eliminate the other in for their definition of worldly peace. These two groups of the Terror Response Syndicate (TRS) and the Assembly of Phantoms (AP). With individuals fighting merely over their differences, it brings uncertainty to the outcome of this war.
We happily accept all role-players as long as they obey the rules and are capable of meeting our word count of 50. This does include those who are unfamiliar with this style of role-playing. The staff of The Duality of Man are willing to happily help those who are new to the role-playing world so they feel comfortable on site. Feel free to message the staff if you need help, they can be found here or in the site Discord and will gladly answer questions alongside calm concerns. If you have any suggestions we would love to hear them; guests may use the support board as a suggestion area as well. Should you decide to join, may I say welcome to the site and we all hope you enjoy your time here.
Yours Truely,
The Staff

Summer 2024
Heat has broken through into a glorious summer. The snow has entirely dried through the spring, leaving to the brilliance of the warmer months. Terror activity has risen as people are brought out of their homes, leaving the TRS in a position of consistent work. Each are attempting to maintain victory in the endless struggle for power.
Since the wonderful members of TDOM enjoy the site enough to play around on it, this thread is to assist with the site's tidying! Functionality is important and we want to make the site functional even if its activity will be minimal at best!
you caught me under false pretenses how long before you let me go?
she yawned as she continued her way down the street. she didn't know why she was out here? well, she knew why. she was shopping for last minute gifts. as if her family needed anything else. it was more the gesture. her mother seemed to make a big deal to have family dinner and exchange gifts. half the times it was things she didn't need. okay if she was honest, it had always been things she didn't need.
just things that her mother thought she needed. at least she was trying right? figuring going to the mall was way to easy. she needed an excuse to get out of the house. what better way than walking around visiting the cute shops that lined this street. she couldn't remember if she had visited any of them.
she peered into the windows of various stores as she tried to figure out whether to go in or not. eventually she settled on a shop that seemed to sell a variety of things. from clothing to accessories and it seemed like it even had some home decor items. she opened the door, hearing the bell chime as it closed behind her.
her eyes spotted a book section and a smiled appeared on her face. how excited her mother would be to receive a book. not that her mother didn't read, but her taste were quiet specific. madelyn figured that was as good a place as any to start browsing.

Another holiday, another reminder of the loneliness which consumed Seth constantly. Everybody else he knew possessed families, pleasant ones they could return to through Christmas and New Years. They would share smiles and happiness between one another. Together, they would spend their holidays with endless joy and love. A soft sigh escaped the dragon’s mouth as he walked down the sidewalks, hands hiding inside his jacket. Snow fell slowly around him, contrasting the rush of people accomplishing their last minute Christmas shopping.
[break][break]
Hastily, people would rush past, entering stores inside the business district to buy their gifts. A sigh escaped Seth’s lips as he ventured down those crowded sidewalks, heart lonely despite people being around him. As he continued to trek down those concrete walkways, the dark-haired man’s eyes caught something. The store sold small trinkets and accessories, but also mentioned having a small section for books. He paused for a moment, recalling the name of a book one of his clients read and recommended to him.
[break][break]
Christmas would be undeniably lonely, thus why not curl up on the couch and read for a majority of it? The earth dragon turned towards the door, pushing it open. Hesitantly, he entered, his eyes scanning the area as he stepped inside of the small shop. Steps were taken towards the book section, Seth's eyes curiously glancing around as he moved through the building. His hands remained in the pocket of his black winter coat. Beneath that was his jeans, one of the few good pairs the freelancer possessed; which were rare.
[break][break]
The dark-haired man was quick to turn into the book section, where he discovered a young girl with purple hair. They appeared to both be inside the small book section. There was a ponder about what the stranger planned on reading... the holidays were lengthy and lonesome. With that in mind, the brown-haired man strode forward to inquire about the young lady's choices.
[break][break]
"Excuse me," he started quietly to get her attention. "I was wondering if you had any suggestions."
[break][break]
Quietly, Seth waited for the purple-haired stranger to possibly provide suggestions. The freelancer was not complainant when it arrived to content to entertain him, especially given the distraction he desired. He wished to avoid the loneliness which lurked inside his heart.
you caught me under false pretenses how long before you let me go?
she stood at the beginning of the shelves. she wasn't sure how these books were sorted. she would hope more than anything they would be sorted by genre and she was right as she spotted the paper labels. she stood there as she tried to remember what the last book her mother read was. she knew it wasn't fiction. probably an autobiography of some business person or something along those lines.
she couldn't understand how those types of books didn't put her mother to sleep. it would take less than a couple pages and madelyn knew she would be snoozing. the more she thought about it the less she wanted to pick a book her mother would like and pick something that she knew her mother wouldn't usually pick up herself.
the quiet voice besides her interrupted her thoughts."oh i'm sorry."she said thinking she was in the way. how long had she been standing there? she had taken a few steps back and stopped once she heard his request. she wasn't sure how good she was going to be with her suggestions. it all depended on what he liked to read."well, what do you like to read?"she asked with a smile.

The quiet words managed to earn Seth the young lady's attention. It granted him the opportunity to inquire about a book recommendation from the purple-haired lady and allowed him to see her face. Based on appearance, she looked young, however, age was impossible to gauge with the existence of ageless immortality. Despite her face being that of a young adult, she could potentially be thousands of years old. If so, it would be similar to his situation of truthfully being from before the War of Traitors, but exhibiting no outward traits of that age.
[break][break]
Unfortunately, his polite 'excuse me' was taken the incorrect way with the purple-haired girl believing he required access to the shelves. While actions were taken on the assumption, Seth took no measures to correct the words he stated. What mattered was discovering another book to distract him during his lonesome holidays. After his question was asked, the woman smiled at him and inquired about his favoured books. Preference was fortunately not an issue given the fact Seth merely required a distraction through those lonesome days.
[break][break]
"Well, anything would do," he explained, tucking his hands in his pockets. "I'm not picky. I just need something to do."
[break][break]
The freelancer vaguely explained his situation to the friendly woman willing to assist him. There would be no pressure placed on her. Should he dislike the book? Then he would consider handing it off to somebody who could enjoy it. Stories were designed to be shared after all.
you caught me under false pretenses how long before you let me go?
she continued staring at the books. that wasn't much help, though if he didn't like what she picked he could always put it back. surely people read that little summary about what the book was about. she though about it as she finally approached the books. he would probably want something long. her eyes scanned the names on the spines until she started taking some out that she had read once before."this one is very long. it's about this guy who gets basically gets framed for crimes he didn't commit and how he essentially gets his revenge."she said handing it to him."oh, it's the count of monte cristo."she tells his as she put back the other book she had taken off the shelf.
she continued to skim through names as she wondered what else she could find. she laughs slightly."if you're bored you might want to find another hobby besides reading. not saying reading is boring or anything, but trying other things out can be fun too."she nods. plus it gave him other things to do if he couldn't find something he wanted to read. in her search she ended up finding a book for her mother. it was a historical fiction. that seemed like something her mother would enjoy, hopefully.

Book types and stories hardly mattered to Seth as he searched for the distraction he craved for. The holidays were among the worse moments to be alone. Throughout those days, the lonesome dragon struggled to resist the urge to think about happy families sharing their Christmas dinners or friends celebrating New Year's Eve. Destiny placed him upon a road, desolate and without permanent faces existing in his life, touching his heart. Motivation to strive forward proved difficult some days, however, there was nothing else Seth could do.
[break][break]
Quietly, the dragon observed the purple-haired woman, absorbing the words she stated. Conversation was considered a spectacular, something of a treat in Seth's experiences. Constantly, he craved the sweet taste of word exchanges and pleasant atmosphere of interactions. The dragon favoured Madelyn with a lack-lustre neutral expression despite his enjoyment of connecting with other individuals. A book was fetched from the shelf, an explanation of the plot offered by the kindly woman. The brunette's eyes flickered with curiosity about the book.
[break][break]
"Sounds interesting," he responded as he grabbed the book.
[break][break]
Quietly, Seth gazed over the cover, admiring the artwork as he listened to the young lady's advice. She suggested trying other hobbies to fend boredom through trying alternative hobbies.
[break][break]
"I will consider it," he assured.
[break][break]
With those words, he kept glancing over the book, curious about the mystery aspect of the book. The dragon was admittedly intrigued and willing to try reading the book. Part of him wanted to know what would happen to the unfortunate framed man. What if the ending was saddening? He wanted to know!
you caught me under false pretenses how long before you let me go?
she handed him the book and smiled as he told her that it sounded interesting."oh it really is. there so much going on it's crazy."she told him with a small laugh. it really was and it had so many different elements. there was a bit of romance and of course betrayal and revenge. she probably should of grabbed a basket. she had perhaps found another book for her mother. she was still undecided, but for now would carry it with her.
she nodded at his words."i'll keep looking for more books. in the meantime."she told him with a nod. what else could she find? another mystery? perhaps a thriller? he did say he read would read whatever sounded interesting. wasn't it funny the time you needed to think of everything you read or something you mind went blank? it wasn't like he was pressuring her. she was just trying to recall what she had read that might interest him."how about this one? it might be a bit dark. it's called the silent patient. this woman is discovered at the scene of the crime. police believe she may had killed her husband, but she doesn't talk. so basically they try to find out what happened. so they don't know for sure sshe committed the crime. it's has it's twist and turns."she tells him as she hands him another book.

The purple-haired stranger appeared interested in books with crazy plots, although Seth held no complaints on the matter. The stories contained inside the pages sounded intriguing, especially with the manner the woman explained them. These would definitely be among the better choices to keep himself entertained through the holidays. Staving those suffocating emotions of lonesomeness was a requirement after all. Hopefully, this year would be easier than the previous ones he suffered through, missing his adopted father along with others who passed.
[break][break]
The freelancer’s calloused hands glanced over the first book, eyes reading the summary to confirm the stranger’s words. Unconsciously, his hand reached for his chin, pointer finger curling while the thumb remained straight on his face. Curiosity flickered in his eyes as he read the summary of the first chosen book. The literary material was a marvellous choice, although, one Seth did not initially expect to be sold by a store of this decorum. He genuinely believed the store would have fixated on something less mysterious and prefer dramatic love stories or teen fictions.
[break][break]
The woman’s small laugh prompted the slightest hint of a smile from Seth, alas, it faded quickly. A nod was given in response to her truthful words. Another nod was provided when the stranger began searching for more books. The brown-haired man raised a brow as he watched her for a few moments.
[break][break]
“What is your name? If you do not mind me asking,” Seth inquired.
[break][break]
The mysterious, purple-haired stranger was assisting him, therefore, it felt polite to ask her name. Only moments later did she manage to find another book for Seth to add to his reading list. A soft ‘hmm’ escaped his lips as he grabbed the next suggested book to take a look at it. The man’s brown eyes looked over the cover before reading the back. After years of war, Seth was not squeamish to darker topics.
[break][break]
“You have quite the taste in books,” the dragon commented.
[break][break]
With those words, he began reading the summary provided on the back of the book. He was intrigued because of the synopsis given by the purple-haired woman, thus he read the words carefully.

maybe she should of suggested something else? had it seemed odd that she had suggested that type of book? she wasn't always reading dark type of books. she had her mix of romantic comedies thrown in there. though after awhile they all started to sound the same. different names and places, but the same story line. it was totally cliche, but that wasn't always necessarily a bad thing. she just didn't like things to be very predictable. besides she wasn't going to pick something extremely girly for him. he didn't seem like the type to read those types of stories. then again she had no idea what the man enjoyed. she wasn't one to judge, people could read what they wanted.
for now she would let him pick out his own books. she wasn't going to tack on everything she had read. two suggestions were enough right? she thoughts shifted back to her mother. should she get her one more book or would this be enough? he asked for her name and smiled."not at all. i'm madelyn and you?"
she laughed at his comment."i just try to be full of surprises."it wasn't something she typically read, but sometimes leaving your comfort zone lead you to unexpected things. she rather enjoyed the book. it certainly wasn't predictable which she liked. she had formed her own suspicious and she was half right on some things.

On several occasions throughout their interaction, the purple-haired woman proved to be intriguing. It was nothing abnormal for people to enjoy a macabre genre of stories. The mysterious nature followed by the unexpected twists and turns with bursts of shocking descriptions was interesting. These were stories Seth never thoroughly indulged in, then again, the freelancer invested his time in working. He discovered a blissful connection with others when he assisted with fixing, painting and various other forms of housework.
[break][break]
The dragon carefully cracked open the book, gazing over the words while the comforting smell of new pages wafted to his nose. A wonderful scent he found pleasant to his nostrils. The brunette would enjoy reading these pieces of literature as a formulated Christmas distraction. A pair of suggestions along with another book would hopefully be enough to assure he would be distracted through the holidays. He listened to the woman's name when she provided it. The friendliness she outwardly displayed was welcoming.
[break][break]
"Seth," he answered.
[break][break]
The comment about her literature choices prompted laughter from the young woman. He gave Madelyn a warm, albeit, brief smile in an attempt to return that friendliness.
[break][break]
"Do you need anything, Madelyn?" He inquired to the young woman.
[break][break]
She assisted him with finding books, therefore, he should openly return the favour. He needed to return the politeness to Madelyn, it was the right thing to do.
you caught me under false pretenseshow long before you let me go?
she smiled."nice to meet you seth."she told him after they had exchanged names. she was glad she hadn't scared him off with her random book choices, that fact that he had laughed at her words was even more proof. there were just certain people that would probably think she was weird for reading certain things. though she didn't mind. everyone had their own likes. she could see how that would be a bit of a surprise. with the way she dressed and how happy she seemed.
madelyn had been looking at another potential book selection before deciding against it. she heard seth ask if she needed anything and she shook her head."thank you, but i'm doing alright. these books aren't for me."she explained."presents for my mother. she has a peculiar taste."she added with a laugh. it was proving to be difficult to find books for her mother and not herself. how many had she passed over now? three or four. if she hadn't thought of buying some books for her mother she would probably have nothing to gift her. like her book preferences her mother was rather hard to shop for. what could you get someone that seemed to have everything?"i mean if you have suggestions i don't mind hearing them. even if i'm the one that ends up reading them."

Their introduction was all definitions of pleasant and enjoyable for the dragon. A gentle hint of a smile graced his lips as he regarded the woman with a warmer expression than before. It was not the representation of light and holiness, however, enough to send the message of subtle appreciation. There was nothing more to the smile, for its tiny size hardly suggested overwhelming benevolence and amiability. The woman, Madelyn, proved to be pleasant company at this current moment. A delightful conversation in regards to literature was both a valuable distraction and productive.
[break][break]
People were a crucial step in assuring loneliness would be staved for a few more precious minutes. It relaxed Seth to hold these sweet moments despite them eventually coming to an end... they always did. Those around him never remained in his life, always leaving and causing him an endless slew of complications. Friendship, or even an acquaintanceship, was indispensable for somebody like Seth. The continuous loss inflicted endless amounts of pain on his heart, however, temporarily he could feel a wondrous warmth inside his heart from their current situation.
[break][break]
Assistance was offered in return for the services Madelyn provided him, alas, the purple-haired lady did not require it. He nodded at Madelyn's words. There was no joining in the laughter, the man's lack of emotion making itself available, although, it shortly shifted to suggestions. A soft 'hmm' of thought hummed from the man's closed lips.
[break][break]
"I am not the best for suggestions... I read a lot of repairing books," Seth quietly mused.
[break][break]
Suggestions were never his strong suit, especially in regards to books. He read a variety of literature, but not always for his intrigues, rather, he invested his time reading things other people enjoy... Connections were desired, therefore, he read things that allowed for those to manifest.

she didn't want to come off as rude by not taking him up on his offer to help her in return. honestly it wasn't necessary. she didn't help people because she wanted something in return. she was just happy to help. though a few seconds later she had asked for book suggestions from him. she was positive they read different things. maybe there would be something that he had read that sounded interesting to her? it was a possibility and it certainly didn't hurt to ask.
she laughed softly after hearing his response."oh yes, those do sound rather interesting. though i can't really say i've picked one up."she never had been the fix it type. it was interesting how things came together, just not interested as much to sit down and read a whole manual."now i see why you asked for my book suggestions. definitely a lot different than repair books."she said with a smile.
"well, now i know who to come to if something need to be repaired."she said jokingly as she wouldn't be the one to bother him with silly things like that.

As a freelancer, Seth tended to possess automatic responses to offer his services to another individual. Not merely from the benevolence in displaying manners to a stranger, but also for the advantages. Offering one’s services would spread the message and effectively operate as ‘free advertising’ for an independent worker. While the concept was not the original intention of offering his labours, it was an additional perk. People needed to earn their living, thus some through the grapevine sharing never hurt… at least when referring to a happy customer.
[break][break]
There were few customers displeased with his work, but those who scrutinized harshly or held disdain towards Heaven species always discovered a minuscule flaw to rant about. Although, this situation was more of a passive mention to his reading preferences. Literature geared towards teaching individuals to repair items, housing pieces or even create things like shelving was Seth's strong suit. He listened to the woman's words about him wanting suggestions. A gentle smile touched Seth's cheeks when the Madelyn mentioned how he wanted her suggestions.
[break][break]
"Yes, I'm a freelancer. So they are very useful," Seth explained.
[break][break]
Repairs, building, painting and even landscaping were among the many tasks accomplished by the earth dragon. Therefore, Seth maintained his knowledge of those actions through reading and keeping up to date with standards. It was his responsibility after all.

if he spent most of his time reading repair manuals, she wondered what sorts of things he could repair. was it simply electronics or was he a jack of all trades. if she had to make a guess, she would say he was a jack of all trades. she nodded once he told her he was actually a freelancer."oh, really that's good then. i not prone to breaking things, but i'll take your business card if you have one. you just never know."she told him with a smile.
she didn't a thing about fixing anything major."do you enjoy it?"she was curious to know what it was like. she wasn't good at fixing too many things, but that was alright. she was good at other things. it was only right she tell him what she did for a living."i may not be able to fix things, but my flower arrangements are rather good. at least that's what i'm told."she said with a small laugh."i work at a flower shop. it's actually not too far from here."she told him with a nod."so if you need flowers for any occasion i'm your girl."she enjoyed that job more than being stuck in the office. so long as she showed up at the office it was fine.
she managed to find a few books for her mother. that would be more than enough. though she would keep her eyes open in case a trinket caught her eye.
