seth maier tell me reality is better than a dream. general info
appearance Leaning somewhat on the taller side with a height of 5’11”, Seth is nothing opposing based on height alone, however, he is decently muscular. Being a mercenary previously, Seth was expected to exercise and maintain an excellent physique. As a result, Seth’s body is covered in lean muscles which are only obvious when revealed beneath his regular wear. The exercise routine has been maintained throughout his years and has adapted with the assistance of technological advances. When his muscles concealed by his work clothes, these can be more difficult to notice for most people. Swordsmanship was Seth’s only friend throughout his years and he has the scars to prove his training. Across Seth’s knuckles are many small scars made from being smacked with wooden training swords or from foolish mistakes. A few of these pale flecks of skin breach the back of his hands and just above his knuckles. These scars are not overly noticeable because of age, but can be seen upon close examination. Similar to most fighters, Seth has his share of nasty battle scars. A diagonal slash evident on his lower back which was healed through magic and another on the front of his shoulder in a horizontal slash; a vivid memory considering his head almost went with the attack. Despite working in plenty of sunlight, Seth maintains a fair complexion. High cheekbones appear on Seth’s face, resulting in his cheeks appearing slender. These cheekbones lead down a strong jawline and chin, which is rounded and strong. An average sized nose with a rounded tip centers itself on his face. Under most circumstances, Seth’s complexion is clear of blemishes, however, he is renowned for gaining bruises or cuts; these are the most frequent blemishes if any. Almond-shaped eyes peer from behind stray strands of dark brown hair. Magnificent hazel colouring with a few golden flecks keep most people’s eyes fixated on Seth’s eyes. In sunlight, they do appear to glitter because of these golden flecks inside mixed into the hazel. Covering the top of Seth’s head is thick, messy dark-brown hair. Taming the thick locks is nearly impossible because of their behaviour. Frequently, they stick up in random places and will rarely remain in a neat and tidy style for very long. As a result, Seth merely brushes them daily and proceeds to allow his short, wild hair to remain free. Clothing focuses on anything comfortable, Seth oftentimes refusing to wear formal clothing, he finds it extremely uncomfortable. Casual shirts are worn during most hours, anything which has started to get ruin, Seth tosses them into the “work shirt” pile. Whenever Seth is working with something messy, he will throw on a dirtier shirt for those types of jobs. There is nothing particularly special about Seth’s clothing since he hardly cares for style, he cares more about working. personality
abilities Dragon Shift -- Intermediate The ability to shift into a dragon, however, going to far can have horrific consequences. Wings are useful tools for reaching high places, therefore, Seth trained his dragon shifted to at least summon his wings. When he summons his wings, his pupils usually transform into snake-like slits and he gains a forked tongue. In moments of anger, these attributes can appear on Seth, however, he would never reach the point of no return. Similarly, he cannot access the masses of strength even partially shifting gives him, thus he only gets a portion of his strength. While shifting takes little energy, it is a painful process for Seth, especially when he spawns his wings. Eyes and tongue causes little issue, but something larger like his wings spark pain when being created. Shifting back is easier than partially shifting into dragon form. Earth Manipulation -- Advanced The ability to move both soil and rocks, allowing the user to effectively control these portions of the earth. Offensively, Seth can use his earth manipulation to defend himself and others, even allowing him to accomplish powerful attacks. Moving the ground allows him to make it shake or latch onto his opponent, however, shaking the ground can still unbalance him. Creating earth is not possible for Seth, thus he can only move what is available to him, similarly, he cannot manipulate endless amounts of it. The more Seth manipulates, the more energy the ability will devour. Previously, the ability was used for strictly fighting, however, since becoming a freelancer, Seth has altered his capability. Frequently, he uses his earth manipulation to assist with garden upkeep and general landscaping. Pain Suppression -- Mastered The ability to suppress painful sensations, lowering the sensitivity in nerves to allow the user to withstand these sensations. The significance of work to Seth is beyond words. Attention is provided, lonesomeness ignored as he accomplishes these difficult tasks. As a result, Seth does not use the ability to merely power through a difficult situation, but rather, to proceed with work. Pain suppression is used to avoid taking injury-related vacations, thus Seth risks making his wounds worse because of his determination. Initially, mercenary jobs were used as an excuse to train his pain suppression, however, now he maintains top condition to accomplish his freelancer occupations. Due to constant training, Seth’s pain suppression can last for hours without tiring him out with use. Enhanced Strength -- Advanced The ability to access abnormally high strength, allowing the user to accomplish things normal people are unable too. Strength was always a helpful tool, especially for somebody who formerly worked as a mercenary and later in freelance. The fighting implications of strength can be easily accessed by Seth, however, he prefers to assist people with his freelancing. Regular exercise helps with maintaining Seth’s strength, thus he keeps working on his enhanced strength. Usually, he uses the ability to carry hefty items and help with transporting furniture and other heavy objects. These are his primary goals with his enhanced strength nowadays, thus he is fully capable of using his enhanced strength to help and protect others. Naturals: Enhanced Durability, Toxic Sense, Magic Tasting backstory TRIGGER WARNINGS: Neglect, Abandonment, Violence Years prior to the War of Traitors, Dominique and Merek met and married, soulmates with their entire future ahead of them. Anybody becoming acquainted with the couple listened to the single word ‘soulmates’ and immediately believed they would sire a stupendous family, one which surged pride into their family name. Alas, certain people are never prepared to have children, particularly a pair of reckless adventures with hardly a care for their own lives. Each positive comment fed their egos, the youthful parents narcissistically believing they were plenty capable to care for a mere infant. Foolish thoughts and fattened arrogance heralded the child’s birth on a stormy night in the home village of his parents. Villagers rejoiced, congratulated and struggled to gaze upon the child of two fated lovers, some perhaps envious of the child’s fortunate others merely curious about the newest lifeform to enter the gods’ grace. A child by a name forgotten by time and abandoned through sorrow, for Dominique and Merek would only prove neglectful. Initially, the trio was a grand, happy family with the parents working tirelessly to be excellent to their son. The villagers believed attachments were being formed, crucial connections being created through those days after the child’s birth. Alas, only weeks in were the new parents irritated by their so-called “bundle of joy”. Begrudgingly, the pair stayed in their village home to raise their child, however, they long started considering him a burden. Throughout the nights he would cry, the needy child requesting assistance from his sleepy-eyed parents. Shouts and complaints echoed through the house as they woke, nursing their infant. They were unhappy parents, sticking it out through their son’s infanthood merely to maintain the illusion of excellence. Unfortunately, people began witnessing cracks in their facade when they allowed their child to cry for minutes on end. Villagers occasionally stepped in to assist with the young child, however, nothing could spare the infant from the neglect to come. As the infant grew into a toddler, his parents were merely food givers, but nothing loving and kind. Childhood would become a sorrowful topic for their son as he spent a majority of his days intruding on the games of neighbourhood children. Mother and father would watch him leave, but never bat an eye at the mischief or danger. Other parents would drag him by the arm and drag him home, but his own parents? They could hardly fake caring for their young child. Home was a lonesome place, large, and seemingly parentless as they left the child to his own devices. Sometimes, his parents locked him inside for days on end to avoid being bothered. Those days were among his loneliest, since even when he hesitantly approached his parents, he hardly gained attention. Only a single murmured sentence would leave his lips when they asked what he wanted after minutes of staring. Will you play with me? Please mama… please dad… They always informed him about his many toys before ushering him away to play alone. The parents never realized that when their son scurried off, he frequently cried because he felt unwanted by his parents. Years of childhood lonesomeness made the child difficult to interact with. Those initial steps to assure social capability were lost, making the son moody and irritable. Upset was manifested because his parents ignored him, the endless loneliness turning their once timid son into a misunderstood, lashing out young boy. He merely desired his parents’ attention and it should not be a difficult task to complete! Everything he did was motivated by those few blissful moments of attention despite his parents reprimanding him. Clearly he accomplished something to deserve their absence, thus, why not provide more reasons for dislike? Troublemaking gave him a portion of what he craved most, those few moments of interaction longer than a meagre few minutes. Thus, it never occurred to the child to stop, being mischievous was his only way of gaining attention. Never did he realized how the villagers gossiped about him on lonesome streets or in the safety of houses. They endlessly complained about the son of Dominique and Merek being an out of control brat. Everybody believed the child would possibly die because of his behaviour, thus they pleaded with the parents to reign their son in. Alas, their complaints fell upon ears fattened with pride and arrogance. Dominique and Merek believed they were marvellous parents despite their toxic absence in their son’s life. People showered them with endless praise when Dominique fell pregnant with their future child. Their attitudes only damaged their son further, every second of their conceited belief system making the situation worse. They never took advice, they believed “stupendous” parents like them should not require something only the dim-witted needed. Thus, their son only got into more trouble, reaching lengths to be tugged home by the village guard when he was 6 for thievery. Warnings were shouted at the parents, the village guard informing of them of how fortunate they were. On that evening, the young boy had taken from a particularly nasty merchant who noticed his sticky fingers grasping one of his golden chains. The merchant brandished a knife, chasing the helpless child through the streets while screaming. YOU LITTLE STREET RAT! I’LL CHOP YOUR HAND OFF FOR STEALING THAT! Those few moments of absolute terror as the child’s back was pushed against the wall, eyes tearing up as he pleaded for the man to leave. Shouts echoed through the alleyway, the guard interfering just in time to save the young troublemaker. Hastily, the young boy gave the merchant back the golden chain necklace before willingly being hauled off by the guards. They informed him how his behaviour was horrible and risky, then when they asked him why he did it, an upset young boy bluntly informed him about his parents. Thus, the yelling was horrible, and he was promptly punished by his parents for saying they never gave him enough attention. Days passed, the young child’s attitude worsening as he hid himself away in his room for hours, only exiting for food before returning. At the time, the young boy was depressed about his lonesome life. Only days later would the child’s life change forever. One morning, the child discovered a note which brought tears to his eyes. His parents decided to leave, stating they could not handle a troublesome, needy child. The final notes breaking the young child’s heart as he read a small paragraph explaining how they hardly cared about what happened to their flesh and blood. Immediately, the son began bawling, praying the note was nothing, but a cruel joke from a pair of distant parents. Alas, they were truly gone, giving their home and lands to the town before leaving to return to their adventures. They never cared about their child, they merely cared about the thrills. Only a few hours later did someone enter the house to check if the pair were gone, and there, they discovered the abandoned child of two neglectful parents. From then on, the child was tossed around foster homes. Frequently, the young boy ran away, rebelled against orders, snapped at the other children or displayed bad behaviours. People thought he was foul-mannered, when in reality, everything inside was hurting. Lashing out was among the few things the child knew to express his emotions. Families were frightened, thus the son was pawned off like a cheap item. Useless, unnecessary and unwanted were the emotions fluttering through the child’s brain, making it difficult for the child to find stability. Everything in life was spiralling down, thus through the years, the young boy proved to be a burden on those who cared for him. Nobody desired to keep him and therefore, he would be transferred months into arriving at a new location for his behaviours. Nowhere could house the boy, thus, when he ran away at the vulnerable age of 13, nobody went searching for the troublemaker that time around. Days were spent walking, stealing food and being a common, low-life street rat. Surviving was difficult, however, everything would suddenly change when a man named Victor Maier discovered the unfortunate child living in those squalid conditions. Despite his uncertainty, the young boy followed him, scared, cold and hungry. Shelter, warmth and food was offered in a small inn, Victor allowing the child to clean up for the sake of hygiene. He devoured the food hastily, even getting hiccups because of how hastily he shovelled food into his mouth. Only moments later did the Victor request his name, however, the child never responded with his. My name? ... I... I don’t like my name. Further questions were asked, revolving around family, which Victor soon discovered the child had nobody. Hesitantly, Victor asked if the child would like to come along with him. Victor was a mercenary, and while he was uncertain he could provide a positive environment, he would attempt it. The boy was taken under Victor’s wing as an apprentice, a comfortable position for a suffering child. Finally, there was somebody who properly punished the child and taught him to be a better man. Swordsmanship was taught, each moment of hard work straightening out the young boy. As those days passed, Victor began spit-balling names for the child he brought along with him. Eventually, the boy discovered the name he desired, thus he slowly approached and requested to officially be Seth Maier. Shock was obvious, the boy fearful until Victor smile. I think that is an excellent idea. Those kindly words followed by a hair ruffle brought a hesitant smile to the boy’s face. In that moment, the boy’s name changed to Seth Maier, and he was declared Victor’s son. Happiness came in their work, Victor teaching Seth basic school work alongside swordsmanship. For once, Seth felt as though he truly had a parent supporting him through life. Hope manifested through those years, Victor working alongside his adopted son as a mercenary shortly after. They were teammates and family, even despite Seth’s clinginess, and evidently close to one another. The dragon’s father was a fire kitsune, kind and lovable with his amiable attitude and protective nature. Through those final years, Seth was raised incredibly, people complimenting the impeccable young man he became. While those traits of coldness and quiet, Seth could display kindness and helpfulness towards others. Pride shown in the travellers eyes whenever he witnessed his son’s kindness, thus he praised Seth frequently, making him happy. Alas, time was ticking on and a large war was approaching their doorsteps. News spread like wildfire of Akari and Volos’ fight in Heaven and at the time, they were in a predominantly Heaven species village. Constantly, Seth watched as a tense Victor wandered through town, obviously nervous given the situation. Danger would arrive, and Victor was aware of the consequences. Heaven believed Hell was their nemesis for feuding with Akari, thus fingers would be pointed at the kitsune mercenary and should caution be lost, his dragon son. After a long day of defending the village from bandits, Victor pulled his son aside, informing him to leave. Instantly, Seth inquired about his father who merely stated the village would hesitant to allow his leave. They talked for hours, Victor explaining the importance of Seth’s life and how he wanted his son to live. With hands on the man’s shoulders, he told Seth to head to a campsite they once had, wait there a day, and if he never showed up, leave. The young man argued, frightened of being abandoned, but Victor promised he would come and if Seth was gone, he would find him. Hesitantly, Seth left his father’s side and departed that evening, journeying into the night with a cloak, his sword and rations. Patiently, he waited for Victor at the campsite, but his father never arrived. In a heartbroken state, Seth left the campsite, praying his father survived his escape from the village. I’ll find you, I promise. Those words lingered in Seth’s mind as he walked into the night, vacating the place he was last with Victor. Perhaps some thought he had a falling out with his adopted father because of the War of Traitors, but in reality, Victor granted his son leave to save him from the possibility of death. Throughout those years, Seth never joined the War of Traitors, carrying out his mercenary work for bandit ridden cities. The payment of joining a war was handsome, but the war made Victor have to separate from him. Through those years, fleeting thoughts entered Seth about his destiny. Everybody around him disappeared one way or another, so was he fated to be alone? Eventually, Seth believed the notion as time continued and Victor never reached out to him. He wandered the earth, changing with the times and becoming colder. He was terrified of being alone, yet, he feared possibly having his heart ache because of separation or abandonment. Instead of interacting, Seth became a listener, gladly hearing anybody’s problems or stories. Occasionally, he even handed out advice throughout his travels. As the need for mercenaries diminished, Seth changed occupations and decided to become a freelancer. He learned a variety of jobs, the occupation being more engaging than his mercenary work, thus, he enjoyed he. He could talk with new people, assist them with their jobs and learn useful skills for the future. Through his travels, he eventually ended up in Lorsette, finding good work there, thus he moved into an apartment and settled in. misc - Likes: Working, groups, books, listening, stories, sandwiches, responsibility, apartments, animals, cool weather, drawing, colouring books, candy, nature, coffee shops, tea, distracting himself, flowers, swords, travel - Dislikes: Lonesomeness, silence, his parents, separation, being abandoned, big houses, winter, being unable to work, sleeping, irresponsibility, terrible parents, bland foods, alcohol, medicine, breaks - Fears: Being alone, separation, abandonment - Seth has some acute separation anxiety because of how often people have abandoned him.
