preston clark tell me reality is better than a dream. general info
appearance Being a mere boy of 13, Preston comes to a roughly average height of 5’1” and possesses and average build. He remains rather small in body size due to his young age and oftentimes fades into crowds because of his quiet disposition. His hands are more feminine, having slender fingers and a smaller appearance in comparison to other boys his age. There are no blemishes that fair skin with the exception of the occasional cut or dirt marks. Any cuts or dirt marks are commonly only witnessed briefly before being addressed. On the left side of his chest marked in red ink is a Japanese symbol for ‘snow’ that oftentimes remains hidden under a majority of his shirts. This is a tattoo he got as a young age with the permission of his biological mother. As of facial features, Preston is noted as having similar traits of his mother’s. His cheeks are slightly plump, maintaining a youthful appearance to his face while his chin is rather pointed. He has a small nose that is noted as being more rounded towards the tip. Depending on the lighting, Preston’s eyes vary from carrying a reddish colour to a more orange appearance. Oftentimes, they tend to possess a more red shading in most lighting, but can appear more orange in areas with plenty of lighting. His hair is blond and maintains a messier look, even going lengths to be difficult to tame with a brush. Extensive periods of time are required to smooth the various points his hair seems keen on keeping. On days where it is incredible messy, Preston will sometimes wears a toque to cover it up instead or is prone to tugging his hood up. When his hair is fairly tamed, then this young boy will not bother covering it up. A peculiar trait about Preston is the fact this boy does not smile frequently unless in the company of people he is familiar with or his mother, otherwise he keeps a rather cold expression. Casual clothing is commonly worn by Preston since this boy dislikes fancier pieces. He finds formal wear to be rather uncomfortable and restricting, which causes him to avoid it. His casual wardrobe oftentimes consists of jeans, simple shirts and a jacket or sweater. His shirts commonly have a high enough collar to hide his tattoo and should they not, a jacket or sweater does. During the summer months has been known to hair a loose fitting plaid short-sleeve over his shirts should the weather require it. His clothing is always looser due to his dislike of restricting clothing. He is prone to wearing his favourite toque that is white and decorated in various shades of blue and green. These blue and green shades are prominently in the center area of the toque. The toque does have a white pompom on top of it alongside two pompoms on the tendrils that lead down from the main section of the toque. Similar to a majority of angels, Preston possesses a pair of pristine white wings that sprout from his back. His wings are feathery, having a soft touch to them, however, they can be rather delicate. They are large enough to allow him to fly. personality
abilities Light Manipulation --- Intermediate The ability to manipulate and create light for purposes of illumination, attacking or defense. Due to not having a major interest in more offensive and defensive skills, Preston did not place much time and effort into training the skill. This resulted in him being mostly capable in minor things, like maintaining a small orb-shaped light source for long periods of time so he can spend nights reading. Attacks and shielding are where Preston fails tremendously since he is only capable to small, low damage attacks and small shields. The shields can be broken quickly due to his lack of skill in the ability. He can create light easily due to training the ability in some respects, but Preston does not know how to use it for its offensive/defensive values. He can maintain excellent energy when using the ability, with the exception of larger attacks and defenses at times. During the night hours or while in darkly lit rooms, Preston has more difficulty using this ability for its defensive/offensive uses and does require more energy to do so. At times of exhaustion or emotional distress, this ability can act out randomly resulting in him hurting those around him; this only happens if he activates it. Electricity Manipulation --- Beginner An ability that allows the user to manipulate electricity. For Preston, this ability never seems to manifest properly whenever he attempts to use it. This is believed to be partially the result of having two fallen angels as parents instead of at least a single pure bred one. Oftentimes when he attempts to use this ability, he loses control of the electricity. This ability will eat his energy very quickly and oftentimes refuses to listen to his whims. As a result, he rarely attempts to manipulate electricity. Holy Water Creation --- Beginner An ability that allows the user to create small vessels of holy water. During the days spent with his Hell species hating foster parents, they would attempt to teach Preston how to create holy water. Preston outright refused to learn the ability, thus he has never learned and ultimately refuses to use it. Should he try, the holy water would be very weak and he would lose a lot of energy. Healing --- Intermediate The ability to heal physical damage done a living organism, allowing a variety of injuries to heal at an accelerated rate. If the target of healing is dead, this ability will not work on them. Healing was an ability that Preston took immense interest it, but took plenty of time to build to its current status. From the beginning Preston craved the knowledge of the ability when he lived with his biological parents, but his parents found it difficult to train him due to the species difference; thus he settled for wing manifesting. Ever since moving in with his angelic foster parents, he attempted to train the ability, although, they never primarily focused on it due to Preston constantly refusing to focus on other lessons (ones that involved harming hell species). He can heal moderate wounds, consisting of gashes and fractured bones. On particularly energetic days, he can successfully heal a broken bone, but will feel immensely tired from it. Anything deadly can be healed to a more stable condition, given the patient a chance at surviving. Anybody in a near death condition can not be healed by Preston due to his lacking in skill. This ability tends to drain Preston rather quickly, especially if the wounds reach above moderate. Wing Manifestation --- Advanced The ability to manifest wings in order to flight or gliding capabilities. Similar to all angels, Preston can manifest a pair of pristine white wings that he can use for flight. His wings are of average proportion, and can lift him off the ground fairly easily. Due to his immense interesting in flying, Preston constantly trained the ability which resulted in him having remarkable control over it. Although, his wings are soft to the touch and oftentimes considered delicate, making it so they can not sustain much damage. When they sustain significant enough damage, they disappear and can not be summoned for weeks. He has difficulty keeping his wings manifested when he is exhausted. Ward Creation --- Beginner The ability to create wards in order to keep species (most commonly hell and undead ones) out or in a certain area. Can also be used for protection purposes of a small area or some other minor magic uses. This was another ability that Preston’s foster parents encouraged him to learn in order to keep hell species away, but he refused. Despite its other useful implications, Preston stubbornly does not learn the skill. Should he attempt to use it, the ward would be incredibly weak and would cause Preston to faint from exhaustion. Blessing --- Intermediate The ability to give another creature a minor enhancement that can increase strength, endurance speed, safety, energy and increase empathy. There were few abilities that Preston was willing to learn from his foster parents, but he placed some effort into learning blessing. He desired to help people, although, made certain to mentally note the hell species that would get sick as a result. His parents stressed the importance of using it defend himself against certain hell species, but Preston never listened and even openly refused the idea. backstory On the first snowfall of a late November day was when Preston was born as a miracle to a pair of fallen angels. His parents, Amanda and Logan, were amazed by the revelation, but overzealous over the concept of their son being an angel. Oftentimes, he was referred to as a holy light given to them by Akari for repenting for their sins. They cherished Preston, attempting to provide the child the best despite their low amount of income. Constantly, Preston found himself happy during the youthful years of his life since it was spend with his family. His father was the primary breadwinner since he would frequently take overtime hours at a particularly dangerous job to provide for the rather poor family. This resulted in a majority of Preston’s early years around his mother, a woman who he cherished greatly. There were smiles everywhere during those days and are oftentimes remembered as the happiest days of his life. Days passed in usual slow, but joyful pleasantry for Preston. Being a child allowed him to remain ignorant to the expressions aimed towards himself and his parents. The people of his small town held a hatred for hell species, thus, his fallen angel parents were oftentimes outcasts amidst the crowd. People would frown upon their presence while enjoying the company of Preston for the sole reason of his angel status. Playmates were always a hit and miss for the young boy, some being concerned Preston would be plagued with sin due to having fallen angels raising him, meanwhile, others strived for prolonged sleep overs to keep the young boy away from his parents. At the time, Preston never noticed the difference between himself and his parents. The stigma placed upon his parents species always existed and was accepted as a normal for the naive boy. There were few instances where he would notice the dirty looks given towards his mother and father when they were out wandering the city, but his parents remained dismissive whenever he questioned it. Around the age of 8 was when Preston had grown prone to displaying his wings, a trait that often caused his mother to smile. She always loved witnessing the snow white of his angelic beauties and would commonly call him ‘her little snowflake’. Eventually, the summoning grew into a fascination that resulted in Preston asking his mother to teach him flight since she lacked the abilities to properly teach healing. His mother happily agreed to the concept with a desire to maintain her son’s happiness. The first lesson surprised the young boy when his mother’s black wings were revealed, reminding him of the wings found on crows. It started a variety of new questions that his mother oftentimes dodged to keep her son’s innocence intact. The lessons began shortly, days passing where Preston would learn to use his white wings for the purpose of flight. He excelled quickly in the skill which granted him another fun activity to do when he was bored. Ever since Preston learned to fly, the townspeople would give more fickle to his parents, almost as though they were furious with something. At the time, the young boy remained unaware to how the mostly heavenly community felt towards a fallen angel teaching him to fly instead of a fellow angel. Gradually, attitudes were shifting and the townspeople would grow more argumentative and quick-tempered around Preston’s parents. The development scared the young boy and his parents, resulting in them oftentimes remaining inside their home unless leaving was required. This lasted for a boring month as the young angel attempted to remain cooped up inside the house, reading books and keeping a shy, quietness. His parents disliked keeping Preston indoors, but it felt required until tensions soothed. Near the end of the month, they gave him the liberty to play outside in the front yard for an hour or two while his mother watched from the kitchen since his father was doing inside repairs. He remembered the black car that parked by the sidewalk in front of their quaint little home. It appeared freshly cleaned, almost as though the owner could not warrant a speck of dirt onto the shiny surface. Three people exited the vehicle, all strangers to the young boy who merely planned to play in the yard. Each were dressed in formal clothing and their faces remained void of happiness. Preston had barely noticed their arrival, watching as the trio approached him and suddenly began asking him questions. The child replied with the concept of being forbidden from talking to strangers as he slowly got to his feet and edged away. Hastily, his mother was out, the warmth of her hand enclosing his while she asked the strangers to leave. There was a verbal fight that Preston lacked the ability to understand until his mother scooped him into her arms and brought him inside. For several more days, Preston was told to stay inside and only leave school with his mother or father. Each of those days featured the similar black car parking in front of their house, Preston oftentimes hiding whenever it appeared. The attempts all appeared to end the same, his mother or father arguing with the strangers before forcing them to leave. At some point police were called, but they never answered the distress call due to his parents’ species. The end of week warranted something new when during supper, a loud banging erupted from the door. His father had gone to answer and shortly after the door was open, there was shouts. Preston quickly looked to his mother who appeared terrified and instantly grabbed her son’s arm to lead him out of the kitchen, but it was too late. Strangers similar to the ones he seen when the car pulled up the first time arrived in the kitchen and closed the distance between Preston and his mother. Forcefully, the boy was ripped from his mother’s grip while his mother was held back by a pair of them. She struggled against them while calling his name, to which Preston responded by calling for his mother. Due to her continuous struggle, the strangers used it as an excuse to beat Preston’s mother while they dragged him away. Tears began to form in Preston’s eyes as he continued to scream for his mother and struggle against the strangers, but he was mere child. As he was dragged through the threshold of the door, he saw his father already bloody and barely conscious; Preston called for him, but the man was too weak to protect his son. The strangers through Preston into the back of the black car, promptly locking it before he could open the door. He banged on the windows, begging to be freed while tears blurred his vision and he called for his parents, but the concept was ignored. The people began driving away from the house where Preston grew up, one sitting beside to make certain the boy was safe. When the house was out of sight was when Preston began bawling as they forcefully buckled him into the seat. He was taken away because his parents were fallen angels and the grim beliefs of others who thought they were not fit to raise him. Distance passed as Preston was driven far from the small town and taken to Lorsette where he was placed in a specialized orphanage heaven species. There, he heard the depressing stories of various other occupants who explained that their parents were gone or could not take care of them due to money. The concepts were understandable, but Preston could not comprehend the reason for his obduction. As time progressed, the intelligent young child began putting the pieces together when others retold similar stories; one being an older girl who explained it to him thoroughly. It was upsetting to Preston, but unfortunately the young boy knew he was incapable of leaving. He was smart enough to know he would not stand a chance by himself, and thus remained in the orphanage before being sent to a foster home. The concept of being in a foster home left Preston skeptical and shortly he hated the idea. He was placed with a family that fostered several other children, all that were incredible strict in the lessons of Akari. Lessons about abilities were taught within the home, most of it being aimed towards causing damage to hell species. Each lesson taught in order to assure the children knew how to hurt hell species were ignored by Preston who focused on the healing, blessing and wing manifesting portions for the most part. This caused his foster parents to become rather upset with the child, resulting in them oftentimes refusing to teach him other lessons. It appeared to be a duel of who could last longer, thus Preston never caved and instead became a cold, quiet boy who preferred the company of books opposed to people. He became incredibly intelligent, quickly climbing the scales of reading levels and being prone to finishing homework early. He commonly kept to himself, coldly ignoring some of his classmates who attempted to socialize and instead focusing on his work or a good book. Teachers capitalized on the concept, allowing Preston to sometimes learn skills above his current level while keeping him in his current class due to his negative social behaviors. It was around the age of 12 when Preston was taken to the Lorsette hospital for a routine checkup. The young boy was always curious about healing and doctors, thus he managed to sneak away from his foster family while his remaining siblings got their turn. He explored, some nurses stopping to ask if he was lost to which the boy would merely reply that he was getting back to his parents after a bathroom break. There was plenty of assisting towards knowing the way, and thus they mostly moderated monitored where he went. Each room was given a gaze during his exploration until Preston reached one that held a familiar face. His eyes widened when he viewed the now withered appearance of his biological mother. The boy was quick to enter the room and call for his mother who remained conscious at the time. A weak smile carved onto her thin cheeks as he drew closer, her slender hand delicately caressing his face and rustling his hair. While his parents finished with the checkup and searched for him, Preston spent nearly an hour speaking to his mother. A nurse had entered at some point, gently grabbing the boy’s arm and stating his mother needed to rest now. Hesitantly, the boy left and was taken to his foster family who questioned where he had ran off to. Preston merely responded with the concept of meeting a patient and speaking to them, informing his foster parents about his desire to become a doctor. The answer pleased his foster parents who remained unaware of who the boy spoke with, which granted Preston more time with his mother in secret. Each day after he completed school, he would stop at the hospital for an hour to talk with his mother. There were discoveries made towards what happened to his mother through the woman herself and the various medical staff. His father had disappeared, his mother being uncertain of what happened to him meanwhile his mother possessed a cursed illness. The curse was incredibly complex, being possibly unbreakable and due to the aggression it had, nobody could heal her by magical methods. The curse would attack them, inflicting pain, but being merciful in not giving the grimly progressive death to them. There was no logical way to heal his mother, thus potions and other medicines were used. The discovery increased the young boy’s resolve to become a doctor. Months passed, his foster parents being unaware that the woman Preston spoke to in the hospital was his biological mother. They merely possessed opinions from the medical staff of the woman, all of which had a positive view towards her. Around late March was when his foster parents decided to visit the woman after work, while Preston was there. They arrived, listening from the doorway as Preston happily spoke to his mother which allowed them to come to the conclusion. The development infuriating his foster parents who grabbed Preston as they attempted to separate the young boy from his precious mother again. Naturally, Preston was screaming as he struggled against their grip, begging for more time with his beloved mother. His mother was upset, attempting to leave the bed which ultimately forced the nurses to focus on keeping her in bed. Everything appeared to be crashing down, causing Preston to panic over the concept of being taken away from his mother again, however, things went differently. Somebody stopped his foster parents, allowing Preston the chance to slip from their grip and slip back into the room of Amanda Clark. There was something occurring outside the walls, Preston ignoring it to speak with his mother a few more moments. Not long after the incident a court case was filed and due to it, Preston was moved to a new foster house that allowed him to remain in Lorsette. misc - Likes: Books, knowledge, science, learning anything medical related, his mother, flying, quiet places, photos, school, healing others, beaches, swimming, stars, picnics, helping, winter, snow, hugs from family/friends, his tattoo, fantasy - Dislikes: His foster parents, orphanages, prejudice against hell species, crowded rooms, being disturbed from reading, horror movies, loud places, sickness, injury, being annoyed, strangers, being forced to socialize, group projects - Fears: Being separated from his mother again, bugs, sickness, curses, not being able to help - The symbol on left side of Preston’s chest is a Japanese symbol for “snow”.
