Welcome to The Duality of Man, an original animanga role-play that features numerous supernatural creatures. Unfortunately, these various species have distanced themselves because of the war that occurred thousands of years ago, plaguing some with eyes that only see their dualism. While others meddle themself with their differences, two groups fight, each attempting to eliminate the other in for their definition of worldly peace. These two groups of the Terror Response Syndicate (TRS) and the Assembly of Phantoms (AP). With individuals fighting merely over their differences, it brings uncertainty to the outcome of this war.
We happily accept all role-players as long as they obey the rules and are capable of meeting our word count of 50. This does include those who are unfamiliar with this style of role-playing. The staff of The Duality of Man are willing to happily help those who are new to the role-playing world so they feel comfortable on site. Feel free to message the staff if you need help, they can be found here or in the site Discord and will gladly answer questions alongside calm concerns. If you have any suggestions we would love to hear them; guests may use the support board as a suggestion area as well. Should you decide to join, may I say welcome to the site and we all hope you enjoy your time here.

Summer 2024
Heat has broken through into a glorious summer. The snow has entirely dried through the spring, leaving to the brilliance of the warmer months. Terror activity has risen as people are brought out of their homes, leaving the TRS in a position of consistent work. Each are attempting to maintain victory in the endless struggle for power.
Since the wonderful members of TDOM enjoy the site enough to play around on it, this thread is to assist with the site's tidying! Functionality is important and we want to make the site functional even if its activity will be minimal at best!

It's all too noisy, the panic evident in the crowds, and it's almost clear for Jason that it will never cease, so long as the dirty work of the Assembly of Phantoms keeps taking place. He may lose his sense of hearing if this keeps up for long, if he insists to himself on staying in the crowds for long periods of time. Jason remembers his two companions, the policewoman and the blind individual whom had approached him while he sat at one of the benches earlier that day. So far, both of them are fine, including himself, he figured.
He looks around the crowds and even the path that they should be partaking had been covered; the vampire's eyes slightly widen in panic that they may not be able to escape this mess. "We should really, really go--" He tells Amanda and Felix, but then he realizes that the blind individual has disappeared from his sight for quite a few distances. "Where did--" He is about to ask, head turned right to left in search for him. The crowd has become thicker and he could almost not breathe, but he could only hope for the better for the blind individual.
Sadly, he does not know their name; taking one look at Enigma and not waiting for her permission for anything, he surges into the crowd in search for purple hair and black eyeglasses. He could not call out to them as they did not even introduce themselves to him and to the policewoman, but his recognition of faces in the crowd may help him in this situation. Of course, he did not dare stray away from the supposed path; the sooner they could get out of this crowd, the better. But then--
A thunderous sound, like a bomb hitting a building. The crowds screams. Jason's ears almost as if about to pop out from where they are and render him deaf. Eyes getting dizzy and about ready to faint. But the blind individual could be here-- they need assistance-- he should help them--
Someone bumps into him and he catches them and almost stumbles, but fortunately, holds his ground; he sees the blind individual through blurry eyes and casts him a worried look, but this soon changes to relief. "G-Goodness-- I-I was... worried where you had been." He calmly states. Anymore hints of worry, he knew, will be bad for them and their current situation, so he tries to hide the strain of worry from his voice. "Come on now, we've found a path. Let's get out of here--"
He turns and almost stumbles, but he's fine, he should be-- he stands up limply and holds his ground firm this time, determination in his tired eyes to guide them both out of here, and towards the people who belongs to the organization he worked with. Carefully, he takes the blind individual's arm and guides him slowly towards where the TRS should be.
Felix Mellobrook , @enigma ● LATE RESPONSE AGAIN! I AM SO SORRY! ● 000
ost became a word Felix grew familiar with in their youth and in these instances of thunderous noises and torrent of moving bodies. Sightlessness was an expected problem, especially for the blind TRS informant who constant craved the pleasant embrace of independence, yet, it appeared today would present them with these ill-favouring circumstances. Absolute blindness without any feasible method of guidance resulted in Felix hopelessly listening to the fleeing crowd, however, nothing appeared to assist them.
Bodies were colliding into the young individual, manifesting a sense of fright at the notion of falling and potentially being trampled. There were concerns the information they gathered would never be provided to the TRS agents who required it. Eventually, their back bumped into another person, the blind informant stiffening, feet stumbling back, but Felix is fortunately assisted by the person who caught them. The purple-haired individual was unable to identify who assisted them, until the man spoke, memorized tones of voice allowing them to identify him as Jason; the man from before.
Nobody could detect the sense of relief which flooded into Felix, however, it was accompanied by the regular emotions of embarrassment and envy. Fate's cruelness made it impossible for them to hold the welcomed hand of independence, their disability making certain luxuries impossible. Independence was something narrowly beyond their grasp, their electromancy allowing the capability to blossom where complete dependence once stood firm. There was a steady grip on the blind's individual's arm, warmth evident in the hand which kept its hold.
A facade of calm encapsulated Jason's voice, yet, Felix knew these types of situation could potentially result in stress weighing on anybody's shoulders. There was a brief stumble, however, it appeared the blind individual's guide recovered and began the process of leading them through the throng of bodies. Despite the independence they fiercely craved, the purple-haired informant begrudgingly accepted the guidance, their face remaining neutral as they moved. Slowly, they moved through the crowd, Felix inching closer to their guide to avoid being bumped into.
The cane was lifted up from the ground below, hovering above it and grasp tightly to. Once they were freed from the crowd, the purple-haired individual knew they needed to contact the TRS.
"Once we escape, I need to converse with somebody working this situation," Felix began, their voice mostly neutral, however, there were notes of concern. "I overheard a conversation inside the crowd related to the Assembly soldier who could potentially be located in the immediate area."
Assembly soldiers were dangerous people, however, they could potentially hold valuable information related to future attacks on Lorsette or the whereabouts of hidden terrors. Capturing the individual the conversing citizens in the crowd described could assist the TRS, but would at least create more safety by removing another soldier off the streets.

Jason's focus is on the exit. So he stays calm and, making sure they are both alright and ready to go, he guides them both from to safety from the crowd. It's all too noisy and the noise is about to drown out every word if he were to talk to the blind individual, so he does not bother. Blue eyes stare at where the TRS are, currently encouraging the crowds not to panic. But in this situation, where bombs suddenly go out of nowhere, and the announcement of an Assembly member in sight, it was almost impossible to keep them quiet. The only way the TRS is going to calm this crowd down is to keep searching for who is responsible for this mess in the first place.
Luckily, the path to where they are traversing is thinning, and they are almost about to arrive. But, all while they are walking, he hears his companion tell him that they would want to meet the person working on this situation, adding that they'd heard conversation in the crowd that an Assembly was located nearby. Jason nods immediately. "Of course. We're almost about to arrive at where the TRS are situated, so you should be able to do that soon."
Sure enough, a few more steps ahead and they are finally out of the crowd, making themselves visible to the TRS agents. Some of the agents approach them, and Jason carefully directs him to one agent offering as a guide. "Please take them to the person working on this situation. I believe he has information that could help." The agents nod and are about to take them away to the head agent. "As for me, I'm Jason Flanagan, an apprentice of the TRS. I'm here to help." He shows them his identificiation card juts close to his coat pocket before anyone could ask. He hears sighs of relief, which for some reason is strange.
Jason joins the ranks of the TRS soon enough and watches the crowd growing ever wild. He should be out there trying to comfort them at this worst of times, but they are getting too restless to handle. He should also be waiting for Felix, should they need any assistance. Only when he's given immediate orders will he act, but if anything goes too wrong he will act on his own.
...But everything's already too wrong.
Felix Mellobrook , @enigma ● LATE RESPONSE and I AM SO SORRY FOR THIS! ● 000
oudness was a miserable problem for Felix. The young individual's head pounded from the constant noise, especially the high-pitched screams from fightened children. Their shrill voices were grating on their ears, making it difficult to focus on their electricity manipulation, resulting in Felix being completely blind. They were at Jason's mercy, thus the blind individual prayed the man was genuinely a TRS agent. Shoulders bumped into the intellectual, however, they maintained close proximity to the long-haired man escorting them from the depths of the crowd. People were panicked, tension filling the air as people hastily pleaded to proceeded in their reckless and dangerous escape.
Despite the panicked individuals around them, Felix perpetuated calmness as they were towed around. Eyes closed, teeth tight together as the informant attempted to manage the painful headache bothering them. A deep breath was sucked into the depths of their lungs, briefly pausing as they followed. Exhaling was a slow process, the blind individual's body gradually unwinding as air escaped their lips. The insufferable migraine remained, however, the action edged the pain slightly, allowing Felix to focus on following Jason through the unpredictable crowd.
Noises lowered in volume, Felix finally taking the opportunity to provide Jason with a request. The confirmation was acknowledged with a simple nod as the blind individual quietly followed. Eventually, their path led them to the edge of the crowd. The blind informant carefully followed, listening to Jason explain how they had information about the suspected Assembly agent. Promptly, their arm was handed to another individual, Felix sighing gently. They felt like an animal being led around by a leash.
From there, Felix was stationed in front of an elite officer where questions began. "What is this about?"
His voice was throaty, grumble, displaying deeper tones as he awaited an answer from the scrawny agent who escorted them after the handoff.
"A-ah. Well, an agent going by the name of... Flanagan, I believe? Escorted him here. Apparently, he has information related to the Assembly-" the TRS agent attempted to explain.
Formalities were unnecessary in these moments of crisis, thus Felix took the liberty of ceasing the slow explanation. The blind agender even ignored the improper pronouns used to get through the explanation. They cut in by grabbing their own TRS identification, a small, hidden piece they only flashed at officials. The blind individual was meant to be secret ears.
"My name is Felix Mellobrook, I am an informant of the TRS, unrelated to the scouting division. I overheard information related to a physical description of the perpetrator. It would assist your agents in capturing him for proper questioning," Felix explained.
The elite hunter glanced over the identification, a thumb and forefinger holding it briefly, eyes quickly skimming and detecting no forgery in the piece of plastic. The only inconsistency was the tiny bumps, however, the specialized identification stated blindness as an affliction.
The man subtly nodded before stating, "I'm listening."
Carefully, the identification was slipped into Felix's pocket. Afterwards, the blind individual straightened their posture and accounted word for the word the statements made by the description they overheard in the crowd. The elite hunter smiled, a few whispered commands being provided to the scouts in search of this individual. A few moments later, the scrawny hunter guided them back to the main group with plans of providing Felix with an escort home. The scrawny blond approached Jason again, Felix in tow.
"Hunter Flanagan? The information has been provided... however... we were wondering if you were this man's guide throughout the day?"
There was a hesitance to the questions, the scrawny man refusing to assume to avoid trouble. Despite deliberately traveling to the cost independently, Felix silenced themself. Navigating the streets without their electricity manipulation functioning proper would be an abysmal plan.
darkness always surrounds me. but i manage to survive.
❝
As Felix is taken by the scrawny blond man to the head of the operation, Jason is left standing to the side, seating himself on a bench and watching the crowd, it's population increasing and decreasing at the same time. More people run about and create more noise and panic than needed, and he watches as TRS members discuss the situation and give each other opinions and propositions. Jason feels a few of their eyes staring at him, but not out of distrust... rather, they seem to know him somewhere, find him familiar, though they could not pinpoint where.
On his seat, Jason tries to analyze the situation. A Terror from the Assembly has decided to attack, causing the panic and uproar among the citizens, that is for sure... but Jason doesn't know exactly who has started this mess. The Terrors attack in numbers, usually with a Leader and a few Terrors... yet there are other events where they conduct surprise attacks, with a special agent of their operation doing the operation alone. This event, in particular, seems to be one of those surprise assaults, with only an individual making sure the operations are a success.
Felix must have known something about it, Jason thinks, looking for the non-binary individual through the corner of his eye. He is an informant, after all. He must have noticed something amiss that I haven't. Jason tucks his hands into his coat pockets and watches as Felix and the elite TRS agent hold a conversation. What exactly is he waiting around for? He hasn't been given any orders yet, so that may be a reason, but Jason could not fathom as to why that is. Perhaps this unit does not trust him for missions yet, since, after all, this is his first time showing up when he was supposed to be on rest...
He is proven wrong in his jurisdiction, however, once the scrawny TRS agent returns with Felix behind him. The blind informant remains silent, however he is met with the agent's question. A question that, for Jason, might need permission from Felix themselves. However, he supposes his answer wouldn't harm them both, anyway; Jason does not lie, except in the most dire situations where it needs to be done. This situation calls for honesty, however, or he'll end up in the slammer and get fired from the office.
Jason keeps quiet for a few moments, before finally standing up and fishing for his TRS Identification Card, always hidden in his pocket. "Well... perhaps, after I've met him a while ago this afternoon, I guided him here after all the commotion started," He explains while holding up his card to show the agent. "One other person helped us around, too, but I think she got busy with other matters," He adds, eyes scanning the crowd for Amanda, ending in failure to find her.
Felix Mellobrook ● FINALLY HAVE A RESPONSE FOR THIS ONE! THANK YOU VERY BEING PATIENT WITH ME! ;o; ● 000
ilently, patiently, Felix awaited the conclusion of the conversation between Jason Flanagan and the scrawny, currently nameless blond man. The commotion around them was gradually being settled by TRS officials, their voices booming over the uproar of frightened citizens. Scouts escorted the innocent people, filing them into a safer location, alas, idiots still existed amidst the panic. There were some who screamed, attempting to push past their peers as fear firmly grasped their mind, forcing them to relinquish forethought.
Foolish people... organization assured safety amidst the masses, especially with the TRS providing a shield against the Assembly's offence, which in the current situation was some class of terror. Nobody mentioned the species of terror in a location Felix could hear, allowing the blind individual to deduce it was nothing significant or particularly dangerous given the number of hunters assumed to be within the Coastal Area. However, the informant's foresight further reminded them that their parents would undoubtedly hear of the situation...
There was endless love for their parents, however, they over-reacted whenever Felix found themself in danger's sights. Alas, recent affairs involving this incident would undoubtedly push their worries over the edge... Something would happen, however, the blind individual could only assume based on their parents' past behaviours. Chances were, new attempts to make Felix quit would rise, however, they refused to allow their endless parental fussing to conquer their choices. When they enlisted in the TRS, they became somebody valuable and indispensable.
The explanation Jason provided was satisfactory to Felix, however, the blond's expression displayed bewilderment. Raised brow, several glances between his fellow hunter and the blind informant before his gaze settled. The man stiffened, hesitating as uncertainty claimed his mind. The individual with information on their guide was unable to witness the expression, alas, they easily guessed the man was thoroughly confused by the present situation. Under most circumstances, the blind had seeing-eye dogs or a personal escort, however, there was nobody around to guide young Felix.
"Th-then who-" The scrawny man nearly inquired.
"May I perhaps shed some light on the present situation?" The blind informant stated, cutting off the scrawny hunter.
There was a pause before the scrawny man spoke, "Yes, please..."
"I guided myself," the blind informant began, surprising the scrawny hunter, but before he could speak, Felix continued without hesitation. "My abilities consist of enhanced memory accompanied by electrokinesis, also referred to as electricity manipulation. Those two abilities have allowed me to navigate with little issue through emitting these static waves which allow me to sense everything around me... however... the issue comes with noise... my method of sight is meticulous to say the least, therefore, rendering me blind because of the boon of my enhanced memory.
Noise manifests headaches and these headaches deter my fixation of placing these static waves, thus, rendering me blind because of the current environment."
Similar to a teacher's boredom-inducing lecture, Felix spoke, each word properly pronounced, stated with a sense of sophistication accompanied with little emotion or expression; the blind informant always struggled to express themself properly around others. Only moments after their wordy explanation, the individual's pointer finger reached up and carefully pushed the black-shaded glasses further onto their nose. Meanwhile, the blond hunter's eyes widen for merely a moment before returning to natural size.
In a world of magic, peculiar situations were frequent, therefore a blind individual walking around without a problem because of their mixture of abilities was strange, but welcomed after mere moments.
"I see," the blond stated after composing himself.
Shortly after the pair of words, his gaze returned to Jason Flanagan with freshly gathered thoughts. Based on the explanation, the scrawny man deduce that Felix was unable to "see" in their current state.
"Then... would you perhaps be alright in escorting him home? Meanwhile, we can locate the woman who assisted you and thank you... if you're willing to provide as a description of her appearance, Hunter Flanagan," the man requested with newly organized thoughts.
Quietly, Felix remained motionless, listening to the progression of the conversation. Thoughts were racing, calculating a proper response to provide their parents in hopes of dimming their concerns. The hunters could organize themselves and decide their escort, there were more pressing matters related to possibly losing their informant position because of over-concerned parents. Parents, Felix loved them, however, they never allowed for them to accomplish things independently and instead expected them to go through life relying entirely on others...

Perhaps came a misunderstanding between Jason and the scrawny blond agent, who'd asked him questions regarding his presumed role as Felix's guide. It hadn't occurred to him that morning, either, the possibility of Felix guiding themselves to the beach while blind, and thus able to interact with the vampire. If Felix was able to approach him to the bench without any problem, then what sense does it make for him to not be able to see?
The confusion is evident in the agent's face as he gives him an answer to his question. Of course, Jason knows why the agent has reacted like this; however, he does not know what to tell him in light of his bewilderment, either. That is why he is thankful for Felix intervening, asking the scrawny man if it were applicable to clear all the confusion. The man, of course, nods, while Jason looks at the blind individual, listening as he explains himself and the way his gifts work.
As Felix finished, Jason simply nods and hums in acknowledgment. So they are a gifted, after all. He should have guessed once he'd met them at the beach, however he was too accustomed to his own thoughts to care at that point. The few agents huddled around them seem to understand; even the look of confusion in the scrawny man's face is removed as he processes the new information gained. Jason speculates that he seems to understand what Felix is saying.
Jason turns his head from Felix to the scrawny man, who asks him if it would be alright for him to be their guide if ever the situation comes for them to go home. He also asks if it would also be alright if he were to describe Amanda so they may locate and thank her later. Jason decides to describe Amanda first. "She's a police officer... she should be patrolling around at this moment. Black hair and blue or violet eyes... I don't think I could describe her much clearer than that, I'm afraid." He'd never had a good look at her, after all... the crowd bumping into them and his own forgetful memory is to blame.
"As for guiding them back home, I would be happy to do so..." However, after he says this he turns to Felix with a concerned look in his eyes. Should he really? They only just met and he might make them uncomfortable. "...If it's alright with you, that is." He tells Felix, not removing the concern in his face.
houghts were a swirling tornado, each meticulous concept being thoroughly pondered as Felix mentally rehearsed a script which could minimize the reactions of their parents. Despite being the age of majority, the blind informant's parents were fixated on controlling aspects of their life with the intention of shielding them from harm. Those behaviours were unwelcomed, Felix's wishes focused on gaining some definition of independence. They desired to proceed with their independence and potentially gain more in hopes of showing their parents they could be capable.
Alas, each turn featured their parents insisting on them sitting around, being waited on because of their disability. A soft sigh unconsciously escaped Felix's lips as they pondered their escape from a horrible situation related to potentially losing their job. It earned their fixation as they attempted to think of methods to lighten the blow about the dangerous situation they were abruptly thrusted into. Everybody else discussed the current situation related to the mysterious police woman and their escort home.
They spoke about Amanda, Felix only picking up small pieces of the conversation as their pondering continued. A frown breached their expression as realization dawned. Escape was impossible, those concerns building as Felix realized they would potentially be forced into a difficult situation. When the conversation about Amanda closed, the scrawny man nodded and returned his attention to the other agents as he explained the situation and requested them to search for the woman. Meanwhile, Jason's question went unnoticed at first, a soft hmm escaping the blind informant's lips.
"Oh, yes... That would be excellent," Felix answered in a mumble, the home's address proceeding afterwards.
Thoughts were a distraction, however, the purple-haired individual kept fixating on the frightful notions. They craved independence, alas, it was a difficult thing to gain because of their blindness. When Jason was prepared to lead them home, Felix quietly followed, the blind individual clearly more distracted than they previously was. Even cracks of concern displayed on the informant's oftentimes expressionless face because of their attempts to create a plan to lighten the worries of their parents.

Amanda Cauldwell is the center of discussion for a few moments; the blonde agent asks questions concerning her identity and face, and Jason responds to these questions the best he can. After that, they end with the blonde nodding his head and turning to the other agents, asking them to search for Amanda. He is then presented with the request of being Felix's guide home. Of course, he agrees to this, but is concerned for Felix's opinion as well. The other agents watching the scene look at one another and shrug; whatever the choice, the blind individual had to get home from the ruckus.
But Felix agrees to this, though, and Jason is glad that he does. The other agents are busy with other matters for now, but they encourage Jason to go home as soon as possible before another situation with the AP occurs and crowds of panicked people will form for a second time. He looks at Felix and offers a hand. "Shall we?" He says with a smile. Felix can probably guide themselves with their gifts, but they might be left with a disadvantage; the crowds are too noisy and, as they explained earlier, noise is a weakness. So the offered hand remains, but if they won't take it, he would walk out of the beach, but slowly at a pace that Felix may keep up with.
A few moments and they are out of the beach, albeit still quite near it for them to hear of anything that may happen there. Jason keeps looking back and forth between Felix and everything else around him. To Felix, he displays a look of concern, but as he looks away and stares at buildings and other children running around and clearly clueless of the situation, he is left disappointed. He met the TRS, but he's unable to help, simply becoming a guide. Of course, he bears no ill will to Felix for this, but he can't hide the discontent feeling in his gut. He needs to help the other agents.
Perhaps I can return later, He muses, rubbing his arms together at a sudden nervousness that immediately enters his mind without warning. His mind is leaving him vulnerable and he won't know what to do. I should help them. Prove I'm not weak. I'm not tired, not at all. I should be there to help.
But being there already is just selfish. He needs to help someone get home first. Looking at Felix, he suddenly senses that something is wrong with them. "U-Uh... is something the matter?" He asks, almost anxiously. The fear that suddenly grips on his had is slowly expanding, and he's not so sure if this is just an excuse to be distracted or a sincere question. "Are you feeling unwell? We could hitch a ride if you want to get home quickly."
Felix Mellobrook ● AND ANOTHER!! Also, concerned Jason is concerned. Aaaand he's being anxious too XD ● 000
ome was where their parents patiently waited, or perhaps, anxiously should the news be playing over the radio or on the television. If they heard anything about something dangerous, they would start getting anxious about their safety. As the single child of the Mellobrooks, and a blind individual at that, the parents were protective of their young child. The instinct was natural, however, the actions they took suffocating. Those thoughts of rights being restricted admittedly frightened the blind gifted.
The notions of those limitations bothered the individual who craved to taste independence. Their abilities could assist in providing the opportunity to finally grasp their independence. A soft sigh escaped Felix's lips again, their concerns increasing as they were mentally prepared for their parent's reaction. When the inquiry to proceed graced the blind individual's ears, Felix nodded, reaching for the man's hand. The blind informant desired their freedom, however, their parents would never allow the chance to learn to become independent.
They began walking, Felix following behind Jason, the man charged with guiding them home. Quietly, the individual walked behind their acquaintance. As they left the beach, an anxious question was asked, Felix barely hearing it, another soft hmm leaving their lips. A couple of questions were asked, one about something being wrong and the second being whether or not they were feeling well.
"I'm fine," Felix answered, voice neutral and quiet.
Confessing their concerns to somebody they met mere moments ago was something Felix wished to avoid. Strangers did not deserve to learn those facts and the blind informant wished to avoid burdening others with their concerns. Most informed them their parents were protective, refusing to listen to their desires of independence. Thus, a lingering concern and unvented emotions remained in Felix's heart, refusing to leave. They felt useless, similar to somebody expected to remain still and allow others to protect them rather than live through life.
The emotions were vexing, something which Felix learned to cope with. Few wished to listen to their woes, the sorrows of a blind individual who craved only independence. Was that so wrong?

Jason is used to silence... at least, he had been for a few years. He'd yearned to be in the midst of it, remembering the time he had run away from home in order to escape the hands of his brother. The noise of the crowds disturbed him so much, it made him uncomfortable, as he had thought his brother would be there. The silence is welcome, as he is able to think straighter, as he is able to concentrate on the things that matter most to him. It allows him to have a sense of peace, to be left alone with his thoughts to think everything over.
But the silence is also utterly unsettling, he realizes that only at present. It leaves him unsuspecting, leaves him with no knowledge of what is about to happen next. In conversation, the silence that transpires is usually awkward. It leaves him in so much frustration, and sometimes, a fear of what a person is intending to do in all the words he refuses to let go. It's a stupid thing to be afraid of, he knows. But right now, he is not so sure.
Jason and his blind companion walk in silence, the very thing he thinks about. He asks them questions, asking if he should hitch a ride, asking if he is alright. It is only then after a few moments that silence is obstructed by Felix's off-handed answer of, 'I'm fine'. Jason, through tired eyes, looks at them through the corner of his eye, and knows immediately that they are lying. He's thinking of something, basking in the silence that allows them to think. At least, that is what Jason thinks.
So stubborn was he that he would not allow the silence to go on like this any longer. "...You don't seem to be alright." He says so, contradicting their reassurance, if he were to ever call it one. "I don't want to intrude in your thoughts, but while I'm here I want to help you in every way I can- but you don't seem to allow it." He doesn't know where these words are coming from. He continues, anyway. "Please, if you need me to assist you in anyway while I'm still here, do tell me."
Felix Mellobrook ● Oooo, Felix, afraid of their own parents? (?O?) Now that's interesting (+o+) ● 000
ime was slipping through the slender waist of an hourglass as seconds counted down to permanent captivity. Undoubtedly, Felix's parents would over-react, defensive protocols kicking into overdrive because of the previous situation. Each step down these sidewalks brought the blind informant closer to fate's tangling web. As the over-protective parents of a blind child, they would transform into the wardens of the newest jail, the Mellobrook household, where the only inmate would be young Felix. The thought made a pensive sigh drift between Felix's lips.
Thoughts haunted them, the foreboding circumstances of their freedom concerning them. The future appeared grim solely because of the upcoming punishment for drifting into a dangerous location. No scratches were leaving a blemish on Felix's body, yet, their parents would become insistent about them remaining home for all eternity. Uncharacteristically, the concern cracked Felix's regularly phlegmatic countenance, allowing anybody to detect those subtle notes on their face. Independence was beyond important to the young informant, therefore, they feared losing it.
Their escort for the trip home detected these emotions, deciding to stubbornly question the false information Felix provided. An insistence to assist them... The same thing everybody else pushed upon them without forethought, almost as though they were a feeble creature. There was the slightest hint of glare, the blind individual's hearing allowing them to face the man called Jason.
"That is precisely the problem," they mumbled, facing the long-haired man. "I never desire to receive help, yet, I am unable to maintain any definition of independence... It's vexing."
The issues Felix faced were vaguely implied through mentioning their disdain to receive and require assistance. Blindness was a difficult obstacle for anybody to handle, including the informant who discovered a method of sight unlike any other. Slowly, the glare deteriorated into a expression-lacking one with the slightest frown. The emotion was small and difficult for others to notice unless they focused on Felix's countenance. The blind informant pulled their face away from Jason to instead face the ground as they listened to the rhythmic tap of their cane against concrete.

A soft sigh, and yet another round of silence... both of these do not help in making Jason understand the blind individual beside him. It makes him sigh as well, looking away from their companion as he raises his head, staring at the sky in silent contemplation. Well, perhaps he did not need to understand them. He simply has to let slide the fact that his companion does not want to share anything personal with him, and that is also fine.
However, he slides his head back down to look at him and is immediately greeted with a glare from the other individual. Although a subtle look, it still sets Jason off; had he done something wrong? Asking them if they were alright, was that something wrong for them? Jason certainly did not mean to be intrusive to their companion's thoughts. Before he could apologize for whatever he'd done to them, he receives a response, possibly for the inquiry he'd given to them.
Jason could only stare and blink in surprise, trying to process the words. But he does get the message. Independence, or a loss of one, can terribly weigh on the conscience of an individual. In a way, their situation reminded him of his own when he was young, when he left home. He'd lost his will to go on before, scurrying the streets of Lorsette with no clear path. But he did manage to get through it all, forcing himself to climb a ladder he had no access to before.
This particular ladder was made available by the people around him, the people who'd given him a chance to get back up again. And for that, he's truly grateful.
He looks away from his companion and keeps silent for a few moments, listening to the tap of his shoes on the concrete, accompanied by the individual's own cane. Finally, with a sigh, he speaks up. "...I get the feeling. At least, I used to." He says, his voice silent than usual. "Losing your independence is such a humiliating burden that you feel you should always carry behind your back. 'I want to do things my own, I don't need anyone's help'. I've said that before, even though I know full well that these are false.
Truth is... to depend on others is not as terrible as you might think. They help you in areas where you just can't do it. I'm not saying that independence is bad... that's how I get by as time passes. But assistance and help from others doesn't mean you've lost your independence. They just want to help in any way they can in any dilemma you might have."

[attr="class","blindballottalker"]Independence, something almost every individual placed upon this world received as they crossed the necessary thresholds of life. Many enjoyed the pleasantries that arrived with a fresh dosage of independence. The restrictive chains of reliance being removed with the single twist of a kindly key. It was something Felix feared they would never experience because of the overprotective nature of their parents and malicious malformation placed upon their eyes. For them it was elusive, but endlessly craved with every passing day. Alas, what they wanted mattered naught to the world.
Without proper eyesight, reading was impossible and despite their electricity manipulation functioning as a form of “sight” their parents would never dare to relinquish independence. Therefore, in Felix’s opinion, there was more at stake than damaged pride… Should their parents receive word about this dangerous incident, any sense of independence they received would be ripped from their grasp. They were caring parents but to a suffocating degree. Alas, confessing their emotions on the subject to the hunter proved to be an error... for when the man spoke he granted them an ill-favoured answer.
Those words this foolish man stated openly displayed his ignorance over the situation! Everything they fought for could be cast away into the depths of the void, NEVER to be seen again. Every word was listened to, Felix’s hand gripping the cane tight enough to turn knuckles white. The last thing they desired to hear was how dependence was not horrible and, in their perspective, how they should be CONTENT about it. This man beside them never spent his entire life blind, unable to know the sugary taste of complete independence. HE had that opportunity, but them?
Never once given a thorough chance because of overprotective parents and this ACCURSED SIGHTLESSNESS! The blind individual’s eyes narrowed, an annoyed frown touching their face.
“May I be bold enough to say you know nothing of my plight! I have never been given that opportunity no matter what I do! So don’t act as though you know my struggle, because you don’t, plain and simple!” Felix snapped at the man assisting them.
Over the course of years, Felix struggled with their eyes and their lack of proper function. Never would they be capable of witnessing the beauty of the world... or discovering the sense of capability that arrived with that. With those words, the blind individual allowed the silence to fall. They desired the fact to soak into the man's head about the vexing matters of their disability. They had never viewed the world, and they believed they never would.

Maybe... maybe he should not have said anything. Maybe he should not have tried to console the blind individual about the situation -- that said situation, a loss of independence, that Jason found he could relate to -- that they found so irritating. Maybe he should have kept his mouth shut and simply said "ah, I see", and that would be the end of the conversation. However, Jason has never been that type of person. Not an intrusive one, oh no- He would never try to get a word from anyone with force. He would ask simple questions and make sure if they were alright, yes, but never would he ever force them to speak if they don't want to. But they'd worried him so much, and he figured he wanted to make them feel a bit better, at least.
Jason should have figured it would do the opposite.
Another round of silence has been obstructed after he'd spoken when his blind companion snaps at him after all that he has said; it makes him stop walking, staring wide-eyed at the blind individual as he continues to rant. Jason had never meant to offend him, not in the slightest. He was about to open his mouth to apologize to him for what he had said, until came the next words the blind individual had decided to use.
Jason knew nothing about what they were going through? Certainly not being blind; Jason could understand that he had two full eyes that could see the world in all its beauty, even with the cruelty of the humans that inhabit it, and so he understands why his companion is angry at him for it. But a loss of independence? He'd been there, through it all, unable to think properly and not knowing what to do, wanting to seek refuge from someone who could take care of him until the day he would die. And once he'd finally gotten back on his feet, his loved ones still think of him a hurt child who could not take care of himself, and because of this they were always there, watching his every move, helping him even when he doesn't need it!
"Are you saying... that I don't know what it feels like to lose my independence...?" He says softly, eyebrows furrowed, though it remains a soft glare as he has no intention of being angry at them. "For blindness, it is true that I don't know what that feels like. I was born with two eyes that could see and I've experienced the world for what it is, and yet I still have so much to learn. I apologize if I have offended you for what I said and if you thought I was talking about blindness." He looks away for one moment, swallowing. "But independence? The loss of one? I do know what it is. My own brother stripped me of my ability to think clearly and my parents and my two younger sisters protected me against him, thinking I couldn't do it on my own for he's hurt me too much. My dear friend kept me under his roof for who knows how long until I've fully healed, and up to this current day he still thinks I'm not in a proper condition to do what I am doing, until now!"
Comes the additional retort; until Jason stops, once he realizes that even though his voice had come off as hushed, his tone still displayed anger. He looks away, closes his eyes and sighs deeply, suppressing the tears and the memories. No, he did not want to be reminded of any of that. He looks at his companion with an apologetic look for a moment. "But again, I'm mostly the one at fault here. I'm sorry if I've come off as insensitive to your situation, however I was not talking about your blindness. But I do truly apologize for what I have said and regret it deeply, and I hope you forgive me for it, though I fully understand if you don't." He looks away and he lowers his head, voice low. "I understand if you wish not to talk to me anymore, but I still have the full intention of taking you home to ensure your safety."
He doesn't notice he's walking too far ahead of his companion, but he didn't turn his head to look back.
