Welcome to The Duality of Man, an original animanga role-play that features numerous supernatural creatures. Unfortunately, these various species have distanced themselves because of the war that occurred thousands of years ago, plaguing some with eyes that only see their dualism. While others meddle themself with their differences, two groups fight, each attempting to eliminate the other in for their definition of worldly peace. These two groups of the Terror Response Syndicate (TRS) and the Assembly of Phantoms (AP). With individuals fighting merely over their differences, it brings uncertainty to the outcome of this war.
We happily accept all role-players as long as they obey the rules and are capable of meeting our word count of 50. This does include those who are unfamiliar with this style of role-playing. The staff of The Duality of Man are willing to happily help those who are new to the role-playing world so they feel comfortable on site. Feel free to message the staff if you need help, they can be found here or in the site Discord and will gladly answer questions alongside calm concerns. If you have any suggestions we would love to hear them; guests may use the support board as a suggestion area as well. Should you decide to join, may I say welcome to the site and we all hope you enjoy your time here.

Urijah had a long day at work, sitting hours on end in the courtroom just to be told that the case would resume the next day. There was nothing worse than a delayed sentencing. It was clear the person had murdered another person and yet, there were possibilities that suggested the person was being framed. Though the personality of the defended made him believe otherwise. He knew that personality, somewhere in the back of his mind he was reminded of himself, of what he had done to his younger brother. He would never be able to take that back from him. Anything his brother did at this point, if it was in the negative that was all on him. He had a limousine waiting out front of the courthouse. His driver was always on time, which never surprised him since his schedule was pretty consistent. His driver opened the door for him and he slipped inside, once comfortable, his driver would ask where he would like to go.
"The Golden Crown." He would give directions, then wait as the car drives off in that direction. Once there, his driver would park and he'd get out to go to the other side to open Urijah's car door. Urijah would get out of the car, before slowly walking towards the front door. He would reach out, pulling on the handle before opening the door to slip inside. It was packed with people to the left and people to the night. What had he expected, it was late at night, of course people would be in here. With a sigh, he would walk up to the counter to order himself a drink.
Once more, Alec was out on the town, enjoying the cool night air as he walked. Tonight was a little different from the usual, however. Tonight, he had a destination. The day had had been long, but he'd gotten a well-paying job finished. It was rare that he went out drinking, but he felt he needed to take a night to actually have fun. To socialize, and let loose. At least a little. That being the case, he was headed for The Golden Crown. It was a nice bar, not like the shady sort found in the outskirts. It held a good atmosphere, the kind that made you feel safe to linger. He was dressed in casual clothes, consisting of a low-cut T-shirt, and jeans ripped around the knees. It wasn't what he usually wore, but he liked to try new styles, even if he felt a bit silly in it. He had his hair up in a ponytail, to avoid it getting in his way while he was drinking. Upon reaching the bar, he headed straight towards the counter to figure out what he wanted. It was while he was standing there, however, that he felt a now all-too-familiar sensation creeping into his skin. Shuddering from the toxic air, but not immediately trying to distance himself, he glanced over to the man beside him. Proper logic would have called for him to get his drink and go, but Alec wasn't here to listen to logic. So, putting on a grin despite the persistent nausea forming, he loudly greeted the taller man. "Hey! Your hair's really nice." He commented, fascinated by the colors and style of the other man's locks. "Do you style it yourself?" He asked, curiously, doing his best to give no indication of the illness. He was getting kind of better at hiding it, after the Undead he'd met, before.
Urijah waited for the bartender to notice him so that he could order his drink. Within a few minutes he held the glass to his lips, taking a sip before another gentleman had entered bar before walking up to the counter, standing right next to him. He couldn't help but glance over to look him over before looking back at his glass with a sigh. The thought of an elf standing right next to him hadn't crossed his mind, if he had known he would have moved away immediately. A small smile touched his lips when the guy had turned his way to comment on his hair. "Yes I do." He answered, "Though I do go hair stylish every few months to keep it up to date." The last thing he wanted was to get split ends. "I think your hair looks really nice too." He couldn't bring himself to stare, not wanting the guy to know that he found him attractive upon meeting him.
He would place the glass to his lips, giving him an excuse to go quiet because he wasn't sure what else to say. It wasn't everyday an attractive guy stood next to him and the last thing he needed was to drag other people into his problems. Well.... maybe a fling but he wasn't going to jump into that tonight. He just wasn't in the mood for it. He set the glass down, sighing when he noticed it was empty. He would wait for the bartender to notice him before ordering another glass of vodka.
As his question was answered, Alec smiled and nodded along, only turning to thank the bartender as he was handed his drink. "Ah, thank you!" He spoke as his compliment was returned, taking a sip from his glass. He could tell that the other was feeling uncomfortable, but he wasn't sure why. Would it be better to leave him be? He didn't really want to, despite the severe discomfort he was bringing upon himself. Though the man was sighing, now, he had smiled earlier. So perhaps there was simply something on his mind? The elf supposed that made sense. Most people liked to drink to ease their problems, after all. "Is it alright if I sit with you?" He asked, offering another gentle smile as he watched the other get a refill on his drink. "My name's Alec." He introducd, seating himself without really waiting for an answer. Whether his presence was wanted or not, the blue-haired man seemed like he could really use it. His stomach lurching against as he insisted on remaining so close to the Undead, his grip on his glass tightened. He just barely managed to keep his expression the same. Perhaps it wouldn't be so bad, if he were to get drunk? Fight poison with poison. With that in mind, he downed his drink, his shoulders shuddering from the sting of the alcohol in his throat. It was a shame to glug it, really-- he usually opted for the better tasting drinks so that he could savor them. The fruity ones. "I wouldn't want to pry, but you've sighed at least three times since I first noticed you. Lot on your mind?"
Urijah wasn't used to people sitting next to him and when they did, they normally had company to talk to, but this guy, he was choosing to talk to him instead. It came off as pleasant but he still felt out of place being pulled into a sudden conversation. His job required him to talk but when he wasn't working, it was difficult for him to find things to say. Or at least that was his excuse this exact moment. When the guy asked if he could sit with him, he was surprised. He didn't have any objections but he had yet to answer the question. The guy told him that his name was Alec, taking a seat before he had a chance to approve it. "I'm Urijah and yes you can sit next to me." He answered, not wanting Alec to move because he was late to answering.
He couldn't help but glance over to see Alec grip the glass tighter. I wonder if everything is alright.... He watched Alec drink from his glass, somewhat concerned for him. He would glance away, debating on asking Alec his own question. "Yes and no...." He would answer, deciding now was the perfect time to ask, "Isn't that drink a big strong for you?" He would wait for that answer. The bartender would give him a new glass and he would slowly pick it up before placing it to his lips to take another sip.
As he was given the other's name, Alec immediately committed it to memory, nodding. It was an interesting name. He wasn't sure he'd ever heard it, before, really. He'd have to ask about it's origins, if the man happened to know. Names were an interesting subject, in themselves, after all. "Hm? Yes and no?" He repeated, his head tilting to the side as he rested it against his hand. At Urijah's following question, Alec was momentarily distracted from the vague reply, giving a laugh. "Well, I would certainly hope so." He mused, grinning. He was at the bar to get drunk, after all. With a naturally high tolerance, it would still take a couple more glasses, he knew. Shuddering again, he was forced to look away as his expression twinged with pain. His poison vs. poison plan definitely wasn't working. Maybe he just needed more With a heavy sigh, he managed to recollect himself, returning his gaze to the other. After ordering another of the same drink, he returned to his prior line of questioning "A heavy heart can be a painful thing. Would you like to talk about it?" He asked, idly tapping at the rim of his glass. "You're free to say no, of course." He quickly added with a chuckle. He didn't want the man to think he was prying too much into his problems.
Urijah couldn't help but glance back at Alec, it was nice having somebody nearby who was interested in hearing about what was on his mind but it was complicated. He wouldn't be able to share the information even if he wanted to do so, in which case, he didn't because it would be in his best interest to remain quiet on the subject. He couldn't help but smile slightly when Alec mentioned that he had hoped the drink was a big strong for him. Seeing the shudder had made him slightly uneasy, Is he sure he wants to drink that? Though it was possible he had other reasons for shuddering, he wasn't about to assume the reason behind it. He wanted to get proof before he took action. "Well, okay then." He answered, not planning on stopping Alec, though he didn't think his choice of drink was a good idea. Not if he was going to to have horrible side affects. Alec had looked away from him and he had turned to look back at his glass. When Alec had ordered another drink he lifted his glass to his mouth before taking another sip.
I can't afford to get drunk tonight even if I really badly want to stop thinking about this unrelated stuff... He though to himself, sighing again. Before he could counter his sigh with an excuse such as a long day at work, Alec had made his comment, asking if he wanted to talk about it. "It is complicated." He answered, finding that no would be too me and yes would be flat out lying. He would finish his drink before moving away from the counter. "I still think having too many of those is bad for you.... you might want to try something lighter..." He couldn't help himself, if Alec was going to shudder from the type of drink he drank, that perhaps he shouldn't be consuming it in the first place. "Or not... it is your choice...." He didn't want Alec thinking he was telling him what to do, but he had his drinks for the night and it was time to go. Little did he know, his moving would prove to be a good thing towards the elf that had been sitting right next to him.
"Complicated..." Alec repeated, looking to the other in thought. It was clear the man felt he couldn't talk about it. Stubborn as he was, the Elf had to respect that. At the mention of his drink, he laughed it off, shaking his head. "No, no, this is fine. Trust me." He mused, though only taking a small sip as he wanted to actually savor the new glass. When the man suddenly moved to stand and walk away, Alec's expression took on surprise and confusion. Was he leaving? But what about their conversation? Had his company been unwanted. Though he expression fell at his worried thoughts, he was determined to stick beside the man he'd decided to chat with. Or, well, that had been the intent, at least. Contrary to his wants, his body demanded he stay seated while the man stepped away, needing to recuperate even just a little. Clearly frustrated with this, Alec only yeiled to the needs of his health for a few seconds before he was up out of his seat, following after the undead. His stubborn determination to make a new friend apparently outweighed his survival instincts, at least. Reaching out towards the bluenette, the elf felt almost as though he were being burned as his hand touched Urijah's arm. Quickly withdrawing his hand, he disguised the movement as embarrassment towards his rash action, offering a sheepish smile when the other looked at him. "Ahh, sorry... I, um... Do you mind if I walk with you?" He asked, keeping his drink in his other hand in case they would be leaving. He couldn't help himself-- he was easily attached. It seemed the behavior only grew worse when it concerned people he would be better off avoiding.
Urijah felt pleased when Alec had taken a sip instead of downing the whole drink this time. It appeared to him that drink prior might have been the reason behind his shuddering, he couldn't think of any other reason. Well there was one but he needed proof, surely finding Alec attractive wasn't proof enough on the matter. I'll wait for him to mention it, then go about my business.... unless of course he isn't but.... I still want to confirm first.... He had moved to walk away, feeling bad that he had allowed Alec to sit with him just to stand up, leaving him hanging. He had reached out to open the door only pausing when he felt a hand on his arm. He would look towards Alec, realizing that he had followed him. "Now now, I'm not sure if they'd be too happy if you took the glass with you." He joked, not really wanting to mention that his friend would have to stay here.
It wasn't anything personal, he just thought if he stayed around too long he might say something stupid in front of him. To make matters worse, even if he wanted to stay near him a little bit longer, a possible awkward conversation would be right in front of him if Alec wasn't interested. Or if Alec was interested but noticed his ring. He would glance down, reminded that he still had it on even though it didn't mean anything to him besides a memory at this point. A reminder that he at one point in his life went out of his way to please his parents and married the wrong woman, the woman who killed him that he later killed for freedom. "I don't have to leave just yet.... so I can stay longer, but I'm not having anymore drinks...." The real question was that comment to Alec, or to himself. Having moments of getting caught up in the moment and regretting it the next day.
"Oh, that's alright!" Alec chimed as the man agreed to stay, though he was done drinking. He definitely wasn't making the best life choices at that moment, but he was already resigned to suffer his consequences, so why not push it to the limit? It wasn't like the illness could kill him, right? ...Well, he wasn't sure on that matter, but he was sure that he'd be just fine in the end. "Let's find a booth to sit in, then. It'll be a more comfortable place to chat." He suggested, turning to lead the way and pick out a spot. The bar was pretty crowded, but luckily there was a booth open. Setting his glass down, he seated himself, then smiled towards the other for him to do the same. "It's probably wise to limit yourself." He commented with a nod. That was one thing he was incapable of, himself. He could still feel that odd phantom burn from when he'd tried to touch the other man. It didn't do much to distract from the awful pains in his body and stomach, though. He'd never lingered so close for so long. Still, he was no quitter. He'd made his choice to stick it out, so stick it out he would. It was only as Urijah was sitting down that Alec took notice of the ring decorating his finger. Blinking, his expression showed slight disappointment, though he quickly brushed it away. What was he getting disappointed over, he was just trying to make a friend. Plus, it wasn't like he'd be able to hold any sort of relationship with an Undead. It'd just be sad... Though, it did provide a topic of conversation. "So, you're married? What's that like?"
Urijah couldn't help but feel pleased that Alec had agreed to him staying. Alec had suggested a booth for them to sit in and he followed after him, allowing Alec to pick a spot. Once Alec had taken a seat, he sat across from him. "Yeah, unfortunately that is the price I pay to work at the job I do...." He sighed in defeat, being reminded he had a case in the following morning. He had hidden his hands on his lap after sitting down, not really thinking of the ring on his finger. He had missed the disappointment expression because he had been stuck in his thoughts about how he wasn't sure if Alec was wanting only a friend or if there was a slight chance of more. He was pulled from his thoughts when Alec had broken the silence, to his disappointment the ring had been mentioned. He would raise his hand ontop of the table. "I had been married... I'm not anymore..." He looked at the ring briefly before placing his hand back under the table to join the other one.
"I have mixed feelings over the subject." He sighed, debating on what all he could share without risking his siblings finding out something new, if heaven forbid, Alec knew them too. Though it seemed doubtful because they weren't even in town, right? If anything they'd be back home. "I was raised by parents who believed in something that I didn't, they expected so much from me and I chose to follow their strict rules. Because of that, I got married." He stared at the table, having never shared his feelings about his parents strictness to anybody else or how he hadn't been happy about his marriage even if his wife had been. "The marriage, it pleased my parents, nothing more, nothing less. As for why I'm still wearing it. I told myself it was because I'm taking a break but I can't help but think it was a stupid idea now." He wasn't completely sure how he would go about telling Alec that he had been married to his wife to please his parents but he was always interested in guys.
With a breath he would force himself to be brave. "Did anybody tell you that you look handsome tonight Alec?" He asked trying to not become too excited from the possible answer. He would wait for Alec to answer before he explained anymore.
At Urijah's mention of his job, Alec perked up in interest. "Oh? What sort of work do you do?" He asked, all smiles as his attention centered on the other man. That was another of his favorite topics. He loved knowing what others were passionate about. Or if they didn't actually like their jobs, at least what they were good at. It said a lot about a person. After asking about Urijah's marriage, the Half Fae hadn't really considered the fact the the ring was simply an item from the past. So upon hearing that the man's marriage had ended, he felt a sting of guilt for bringing it up. Along with a slight feeling of hope that tagged along. He quickly squashed that second feeling down-- it was foolish. "Oh, I'm sorry for prying, if it's a sensitive subject." He spoke, looking a bit sheepish. As Urijah continued speaking on it, however, he fell quiet to listen. He expression was soft with sympathy as the tale went on. To feel obligated to marry someone you didn't truly love..? That had to be awful. "You must have felt so trapped... I can't help but feel a little bad in saying, but you must feel so relieved to be free from that. I hope you'll be able to live the life you want, from now on!" He continued, dismissing the irony of the statement. As Urijah finally worked up the courage to speak his mind, Alec froze, his expression flustered as his cheeks heated. At this point, he hadn't been expecting such words from the man, at all. Again, he nauseated tried to remind him just how foolish he was. Again, as his lips curled into a smile, he ignored it. "Ah, well... You would be the first." He replied, clearly happy from the comment as he leaned forward, resting his chin atop his hand. "Though, I have to say, those words would be better suited, directed towards you." He added with a sly wink, his common sense having apparently given up on him.
Urijah couldn't help but smile slightly. "I'm a lawyer at a law firm." He answered as he stared back at Alec. "I'm a prosecutor." He explained, finding his choice of job interesting and enjoyable. Though at times it was hard because he spent hours on end reading up on the files, checking on his witnesses, and making sure they had all the evidence before they went to trail with their expected verdict. "But you can see now why I must be sober...." He answered, finding his job to be an enjoyable topic. When the subject had been changed to his marriage, he couldn't help but ramble about it. "It's alright, it is my fault for still wearing my ring." He explained, smiling slightly to Alec's comment. "Yes, though I do view it as awful because it hadn't been fair to her. If only I had been honest with her from the start we could have avoided the marriage all together." He didn't regret having his son, he would just have liked a male partner over a wife. "I don't know about that but I do try."
He then changed the subject, having the courage to make his comment to Alec, pleased when he saw his cheeks go pink. "Well I'm sure you'll get more before tonight is over." He commented, pleased that Alec had blushed on him. He hadn't expected Alec to lean forward, basically repeating the comment right back at him in a flirting manner. His cheeks blushed pink from embarrassment. "No no no. They would be better suited for you." He wasn't about to let Alec still flirted comment, his new found friend would just have to come up with his own, assuming he didn't beat him too it before this night was over. "There was a good thing that had came out of my marriage though. I have a son..." He smiled over the thought, despite leaving him back home, not giving him notice of moving here. "So I think I'm pretty lucky, how many men get to say that and still live their live to their fullest right now?"
He meant, most people had to adopt if they wanted children but he already had a son. Though after what he did in his family, he wasn't looking forward to possibly adopting as if he had already ruined his chance of being a good father. "How about you, are you in a relationship?" He was curious, from what he could see, Alec didn't have a wedding band on but that wasn't to say he wasn't married or getting married.
At Urijah's answer on his profession, Alec's smile brightened in interest. "A lawyer, hmm? That's pretty fancy." He joked, nodding at the following comment. "That's unfortunate, since it must be such a stressful job." He pondered. Lawyers had to keep so many secrets, didn't they? Alec wasn't bad at keeping secrets, but he always preferred to be truthful when possible. There were a lot of jobs he likely wouldn't work out in, with that mindset. "Ahh, a relationship like that must have been hard on the both of you, in the end..." He agreed, leaning back in his seat and pulling his ponytail over his shoulder to toy with his hair. He wouldn't be able to stand any sort of false relationship. It would be so stressful. He wondered how long Urijah managed to hold out before it ended. Still sheepish as the other insisted that the compliment belonged to him, alone, Alec's hand slid to the back of his neck in an anxious manner. "You're sweet." He mused, his gaze somewhat conflicted as it fell to the table. What he needed to be doing was to shut the conversation down. To let it continue, knowing that nothing could possibly come from it, was cruel. Still, he was a selfish man when it came down to it. "--Oh, you have a son? That must be so nice, how old is he?" He asked, his excitable expression returning with the new topic. He liked children, so of course he was assuming it was a young child. "--Did he take the separation hard?" He continued, looking concerned. He'd never had a father in the first place, but he knew it was usually tough on children to have to choose between their parents. "--Ah, me? No, no..." He answered, chuckling. "If I did, it wouldn't look good on my character to be sitting around in a bar, flirting with another man, now would it?"
Urijah nodded his head in agreement, "It has its moments but it isn't too bad.... I mean I only make a few enemies at work if I hadn't already." It was hard being the prosecutor, whether he got a guilty of innocent verdict, the defendant and those who know them, still likely wouldn't like him for doing his job. But that was the price he paid for justice. It wasn't that hard to keep his work private, he had to keep his life private so why would work be any different? It was just so time consuming. "I think it was harder on her in the end." He wasn't interested in giving the reason why that would be, because that would mean admitting that he had been cheating on his wife and he wasn't ready to share that detail with the rest of the world.
"I wasn't the easiest husband to get along with." He added, glancing to the side, clearly hiding something. When Alec had accepted the compliment he smiled slightly, leaving it as is. The subject soon changed to Nolan, his smile became bigger. "Yes, I do." In answer to Alec's question he found himself looking to his side again. "He is thirty.... a full grown adult." He looked back towards Alec. "He... he isn't aware that it is over." He wasn't ready to admit that his wife was dead, because he killed her. He looked back towards Alec, waiting to hear his answer, feeling somewhat happy over the subject. "No. I suppose your right..." He answered, chuckling slightly. Yeah I knew I was horrible for cheating on her.
