Welcome to The Duality of Man, an original animanga role-play that features numerous supernatural creatures. Unfortunately, these various species have distanced themselves because of the war that occurred thousands of years ago, plaguing some with eyes that only see their dualism. While others meddle themself with their differences, two groups fight, each attempting to eliminate the other in for their definition of worldly peace. These two groups of the Terror Response Syndicate (TRS) and the Assembly of Phantoms (AP). With individuals fighting merely over their differences, it brings uncertainty to the outcome of this war.
We happily accept all role-players as long as they obey the rules and are capable of meeting our word count of 50. This does include those who are unfamiliar with this style of role-playing. The staff of The Duality of Man are willing to happily help those who are new to the role-playing world so they feel comfortable on site. Feel free to message the staff if you need help, they can be found here or in the site Discord and will gladly answer questions alongside calm concerns. If you have any suggestions we would love to hear them; guests may use the support board as a suggestion area as well. Should you decide to join, may I say welcome to the site and we all hope you enjoy your time here.

Alec blinked as his misconception of the son's age was corrected, then chuckled sheepishly. "You know, You'd think at my age, I'd realize it's silly guess anyone's age by their appearance." He mused, then resumed listening. "I see... I hope it works out." He added with a nod as Urijah looked back to him. He paused, then, taking a sip from his glass as he watched the other man. He was positive at this point, that he was going to have to sneak off to throw up in the bathroom, soon. It was bad. But at least he'd be able to blame it on the liquor if asked. He shuddered, again, then, as if his body realized he had no intentions of getting away from the hell he was putting himself through. Though he tried to power through the sudden pain once more, he failed this time, his expression twisting in a cringe as he leaned over the table, his forehead pressing against the wood. He was trying to fight off the illness, but it only seemed to be getting worse, faster, as though he'd lingered long enough to pass a threshhold. "Ah--! I-- I'm sorry, I..." He forced out weakly, trying to hide his pained expression as he looked to his company. "I'll... I'll be right back." He grunted, his vision starting to distort as he stood from the table, quickly heading off towards the restroom for a breather. Even that was a struggle in itself, as the world seemed to be spinning around him.
Urijah gave a fake smile but he was sure that it wasn't going to work out despite his desire for it. Hopefully Nolan wouldn't be in town for a while, then he'd have the chance to figure out how he'd go about telling him everything. He watched Alec take a sip from his glass, unaware that he wasn't feeling so good. He noticed him shudder and couldn't help but feel worried about his health. This time he wasn't able to hide his pain, looking at Alec, Urijah was positive he had a pretty good idea on what was happening. Alec was apologizing to him, it had all happened so quickly. He was promising to be right back but it was clear to him that would be a bad idea. He watched Alec go to the bathroom, he stood from the table to go to the counter, asking for a piece of pen and a paper.
'I'm sorry you aren't feeling well, it may be a bad hunch but I think my presence is causing you to feel sick, better to be safe then sorry. Take care Alec it was a pleasure talking to you.' He would set the note on the table before slowly walking away. If he is an elf, then my distance will help him greatly. He sighed, looking towards the limousine before slowly making his way towards it. Once close enough, his driver would exit the car, moving towards the back seat to open the car door. He came to a stop, unsure on if he was ready to go into the car yet or not. Surely if he was an elf, he had given enough distance even if just a little bit...
Once he was a fair distance away, Alec managed to catch his breath, leaning heavily against the wall next to the door. He hadn't expected it to get so bad so quickly. That couldn't have looked good... What was the man going to think? His body trembling, he still struggled to bring his breathing even, his hands pressing against his aching head. At least, his vision seemed to be returning to normal. He at least needed to recuperate enough so that he could go back out and explain that he needed to leave, properly... Get the guy's number so they could meet again... With one last deep breath, he managed to stand straight, and headed right back out to the table. Seeing Urijah was gone, he looked on in disappointment, though his attention shifted to the note once he got close enough to see it. Reading it over with a glance, he huffed, looking towards the door. Catching a glimpse of the other just in time, he straightened up, hurrying after him. "Ah--- hey! Don't leave yet!" He called, quickly moving up to Urijah's side and reaching out to grab hold of his coat. "I'm fine, see! We can keep talking!" He spoke, though his words soon fell through as he cringed in pain. "--Okay, so I'm not fine. I'd say this must be what dying feels like, but you'd know better than I." He groaned in a sort of joke, shaking his head. "But that's okay, I can just stay a little further away, and then we can keep talking. Come on, I should be the one running, not you..."
Urijah had heard Alec calling out before feeling his coat being tugged. Alec mentioned that he was fine, wanting him to believe him. Though he enjoyed their talks, he couldn't bring himself to be the reason behind Alec becoming sicker. "You aren't fine. Being near an undead isn't good for your health." He countered, looking back towards his driver he sighed. "Look, there are things that I've done in my passed that would make anybody second guess wanting to hang around me. For your benefit of health, I'll tell you those." He never had to explain to an elf why they couldn't be around each other. But if he needed to avoid a possible fling, he would use this to his advantage. "I cheated on my wife. I could have divorced her but I didn't. So there wasn't a happy ending there and I knew that prior.... as for the ring..." He paused, having touched the ring he changed his mind about talking about it.
"One of the reasons is because my son doesn't know that I'm not with his mother anymore." He would refrain from saying his other reason, having taken a break from trying to search out the right guy to be loyal with him instead. What other reasons can I come up with? I can't tell him I killed Lachlan because my brother doesn't know about that yet. I can't tell him I killed my wife because my family and son don't know... I won't be mentioning how I died because anybody I tell will be curious on if my wife knew about it and have questions I don't care to answer.... He thought to himself. "I wasn't planning on walking, that is my ride." He side glances while Alec has a chance to check out the limousine. I am such a jerk...
"Ah... You know, you're saying these things as if I should feel bothered by them... It's clearly an effort to drive me off, but how silly would that be, to decide against getting to know you, based on such little things? I've never understood that mindset-- that we should judge people based on their actions against others? Urijah, you haven't done anything against me, personally, so I have to say, my opinion of you hasn't changed." Alec spoke, chuckling. "Though... I would like to hear the stories behind why you've done these things. Perhaps then you can come to forgive yourself, hm?" He sighed heavily then, shaking his head of the once-more building nausea. "Wow, talking is exhausting." He mumbled, bringing his hands up to his face as he struggled with the sickness. He still made no effort to back further away from Urijah. "Oh, wow, that's yours?" He replied as the limo was pointed out, only then taking notice of the driver standing by. "How fancy." He added with a chuckle. "I walk everywhere, myself." He continued, going right along with the conversation as if the previous confessions had never happened. "Don't suppose I could get a ride?" He mused, hoping to ensure the other would be stuck with him for at least a few more minutes.
Urijah couldn't help but pout slightly when Alec hadn't accepted his answer. It was going to be hard pushing Alec away, he could just imagine it. "Talking about it isn't going to change my opinion about myself...." He wasn't sure if he was looking for forgiveness or not, only that he viewed himself as a horrible horrible person. "I cheated on my wife because I never liked woman.... long story short I was pleasing my parents... But being only with her was living a lie so I went behind her back and cheated on her. "Most of the cheating was flings.... but deep down I was looking for the one. I couldn't leave my wife without finding him after all and it wouldn't have been fair to my son... divorcing his mother when he was still being raised." He never shared this story with anybody before but if it meant that Alec would despise him and keep his distance then he did his job. Even though deep down he liked having Alec around him, finding his presence soothing.
"I was planning on divorcing my wife when my son became an adult but things kept getting in the way and sooner or later I died. So what was supposed to turn into a divorce ended with me no longer cheating. I'm only here now because she isn't alive anymore and this ring... I don't wear it because I want to remember her, I wear it because I'm taking a break from searching out the right guy and I'm not ready to tell my son his mother is dead." Now that he had finally managed to get that off his chest, he was reminded that Alec was still standing too close to him. "Yes, I have the money to pay him to drive me around." It was likely based from his good budging and the fact his income as a lawyer was so high. Hearing Alec call his ride fancy was flattering, oh how he wished Alec wouldn't get sick around him, he could have unlimited rides if he wanted, but that wasn't the case.
"Walking is a very good habit." He answered, surprised when Alec had suddenly asked for a ride. "Um." His feelings of still wanting to be around Alec were strong, he didn't want to tell Alec no but it wasn't fair for him to get sick. "Tell you what, he can drive you home and I'll walk for once." He felt like that sounded fair, if Alec had to keep his distance at least he got a ride home, right? He would glance towards his driver, knowing that he had heard him make the comment and expected him to honor it.
Alec stood quietly as Urijah tried again to scare him away, adding more details to his story. The man sure seemed to believe that all of these things made him a horrible person, which was kind of sad, in itself. To Alec, these were stories he heard all of the time-- stories derived from human nature. Wanting to be with someone you could truly be attracted to didn't make you a horrible person. Or even a bad person. Just someone stuck under unfortunate circumstances, desperate for a way out. At the mention of the man's wife being dead as well, he frowned softly, wondering what sort of accident the two had gotten into. Assuming it was an accident. "Maybe you haven't realized, but... Literally any other man in your situation would have done the same. Or at the very least, really wanted to. People naturally seek out happiness in their lives, often in manners that could seem selfish. Besides, I believe the key phrase is 'Til death do us part?' Urijah, your contract is up, and then some. There's no need for you to be letting the guilt weigh you down like this." He pointed out, his head tilted to the side as he crossed his arms in front of his chest. As Urijah so cleverly avoided his attempt to force him to hang out with him longer, it was Alec's turn to visibly pout. "But that's not--- can I walk with you, then? I just want to talk with you longer. I'll keep a proper distance so it won't get worse. You're really interesting, it would be a shame to part ways, now..."
Urijah shook his head slightly, "Yeah but that isn't the only things I've done in my life. It is just the only reasons I planned on sharing right this moment." He answered, being reminded that he abused Lachlan, encouraged his siblings to join in, convinced them to help kidnap Lachlan and watch as he killed his brother, telling them they had to keep this secret else they'd be next. Of course he didn't mean the threat but it was the only way to ensure they got away with it, but everything had changed when he found out his mother lied about the birth of his brother. Lied about what he had done to her, which had set him off in wanting to kill Lachlan in the first place. He would have been the brother he was meant to be if he hadn't listened to that woman. If he had chosen to take Lachlan when he was born, his life would have been much more pleasant. His brother's horrible upbringing had been his own fault and there wasn't anything he could do to change that, though he wasn't about to mention that part of his history to Alec.
Nor was he going to admit that he had to kill his wife to get the freedom he deserved. Thoughts had crossed his mind that he could have tried getting out without being attacked but the chance of her finding him or his son, made him feel a great need to end things, knowing it was possible because he had killed Lachlan after all. "I finally have freedom and I can't bring myself to be ready to try again." He raised his hand to touch his forehead. "Even so, here we are anyway...." He would lower his hand back to his side. He felt bad for refusing to hang out with Alec some more but he just couldn't allow him to get in the car with him, or walk with him. "A proper distance will still make you get sick. I think it would be better for the both of us, if we parted ways now. It isn't you, I just refuse to be apart of your reason for getting sick." He would move closer to the door, deciding he wasn't going to walk after all. If heaven forbid, Alec decided to try and join him, he wouldn't stop him.
As Urijah commented that he'd only told him what he planned on sharing, Alec merely chuckled. The man still didn't get it-- the half fae honestly could not care what he had done wrong in his life prior to their meeting. He was already friends with all kinds, murderers included. Until Urijah had done something to personally slight him, he could not be pushed away, no matter what he was told. As his request to join Urijah on his walk was denied, Alec resumed pouting, keeping his arms crossed. Honestly, there was no way that he wasn't going to be getting his way in this. It was a kind gesture for the man to refuse so entirely for the sake of his health, but he really wwas not worried about his health at that moment. Though he probably should have been, it wasn't great. The moment the undead seated himself in the limo, Alec quickly sat down right beside him with a mischeivous smile. "I'll respect the fact that you think it's better that we part ways, but I think it's better that we drop that silly pretense and continue hanging out. Please?" He spoke, laying down the charm as he smiled at the other. It was a last ditch effort, really. If he was kicked out of the limo, there wouldn't be much for him to do about it.
Urijah couldn't help but find Alec's pouting to be adorable. He honestly thought he had won this despite the fact that Alec hadn't made a comment to counter him just yet. He had moved to sit in the car and no sooner had he done so that Alec had quickly slipped into the limousine to sit right next to him. He is so stubborn and adorable... I'm going to have a hard time keeping his health up because he won't do it himself.... He thought to himself, blushing when he noticed Alec smiling right at him. His driver seemed to be waiting to find out if Alec was going along for the ride or not, seeing as he hadn't exactly been invited in. "Go ahead and close the door." He wasn't going to kick Alec out, he enjoyed having him nearby. He just felt overwhelmed because he was getting sick just by being nearby him. "I have you know, this argument about distance and your health isn't over just yet." He would lean against the seat, trying to figure out how he could convince Alec that it was a horrible idea that he was still nearby him.
Why is it so hard for me to leave him? I enjoy his company but I know he is feeling sick just by being near me. How do I put distance between us? Oh I know, I have the driver take him to his place first. "My driver needs to know where you'd like to be dropped off." It sounded better in his head, he really hadn't meant to have it come off as a rush to get rid of Alec but, it was the only way that he could avoid being that person making Alec sick. Was it so wrong that he wanted Alec to feel healthy? He kept telling himself he was doing the right thing, even though it felt so wrong to part ways.
Alec grinned widely as his victory was confirmed, and he was allowed to remain in the vehicle. Watching Urijah's thoughtful expression, to knew the man was still trying to think of another way to distance him, but he wasn't having it. "Alright, then, now we're both comfortable, again..." He started, retrieving his phone form his pocket. "Can I have your number? Have to make sure you don't disappear on me, the moment I look away~" He mused, all smiles now that the man was stuck with him. "Ah-- Oh, well..." Alec paused as he was asked for an address, humming in thought. His home and office were rather close by, so he couldn't say that. Instead, he soon listed off the furthest address he knew. It'd be quite the trip home from there, But he was going to make this time count. It was probably pretty easy to guess what he was intending, too, what with the grin he wore. "You worry about me, too much. Let me worry about me. I know what I can and can't handle. It got a little bad, earlier, but I got through it, easily enough. All that aside, though... Where did we leave off in our chat?"
Urijah was comfortable but he honestly didn't believe Alec to be. He was an elf, sitting right next to an undead, how could he be comfortable instead of sick? To Urijah, it was impossible. He was surprised when Alec had pulled out his phone, asking if he could have his phone number. What do I do? On the one hand, I want his number and to see him again, on the other, seeing him again could lead to further health issues..... Why is so this hard? He couldn't help but smile slightly. "You think I can't disappear even if I give a phone number?" He teased, personality finding his joke to be rather funny. He would then cough because he thought he made things a tad bit awkward before pulling his own cell phone out, planning on handing it over to Alec once it was ready for a phone number to be entered. "We'll trade upon saving." He suggested, then they wouldn't have to worry about hearing and typing the number in wrong because they knew what their phone number happened to be. The subject had been changed to Alec's address, he couldn't help but feel like Alec was up to something.
That grin, it seemed to him that Alec was possibly giving a farther address then where he lived but he couldn't prove it so he would allow the driver to go in that direction. "Soooo in other words.... Worrying about you is a bad thing." He would play that to his advantage, having prior tried getting some distance between them. " He took some time, trying to think about what they had been talking about earlier only to blush because the last conversation had been about Alec not being in a relationship. "You know, I don't think your special somebody would like having you around me when you will get sick. You should make them be happy by putting distance between us anyway." Of course he remembered Alec said he wasn't seeing anybody, but it was worth a shot, besides he was viewing that special somebody as himself to avoid it being too awkward when he said it to him. There would be a small smile on his face as he was being serious on the subject.
"Oh, no worries, there. I'd like to think I'm pretty good at finding people." Alec mused in response to the joke, clearly not thinking it at all awkward. Watching as the other got out his phone, he smiled as they exchanged them, then carefully input his number before handing it back. "There we go... You're free to message me, whenever." He informed, nodding as his own phone was given back. As Urijah tried to confirm that worrying about him was considered a bad thing, Alec quirked a brows towards him in suspicion, wondering what exactly he was planning, now. Whatever the case, it certainly wasn't going to work. "If you think you can worry your way away from me, it's not going to be so simple, mister~" He teased, chuckling to himself. "Ahh, well... I think if I were to ever have a special someone..." Alec started, pausing as he thought on the subject. "They would have realized, that there's really just no dictating what I should or shouldn't do. If I want to do something, I'm gonna." He continued with a wide grin. With the pain in his body increasing, all he could do was hide it behind cheerful expressions. "I've been told I have a stubborn streak. I honestly can't even tell myself not to do something, if I want to do it~" He added, shaking his head at himself. "I can handle the consequences in my own time, it's no big deal. So, you said that you're on break from looking for the one. What kinda guy had you been looking for, hmm?"
Urijah couldn't help but chuckle at the comment, finding it funny even though Alec had countered his comment. He would switch phones with Alec, putting his contact information in before handing it back to him. Message... that isn't so bad, neither is calling. I just have to watch what I say to avoid giving Alec the impression I like him because that would encourage him to be around me some more which in turn would make him sick. This is going to be so hard. He thought to himself. "Alright, same to you. Though if I'm busy I'll reply back when I'm not." The comment was meant towards work, he couldn't very well answer his phone if in the courtroom, now could he? Though if he was in his office he could answer it or if he was on break. "I work a lot." He added, just in case Alec though it to be another reason. Alec's tease made him shiver slightly, why was it so hard to keep distant from Alec when he wanted nothing more than to be around him? "Well see." He countered, unsure of what else he could say, so far it seemed Alec was winning this argument.
To Alec's comment, he frowned slightly. "I would argue, dictating over something as being harmless and something that could benefit your health as two different situations.... Over your health would be a benefit and though I'm sure they would understand, going so far as to try harder if convincing just wasn't working." He couldn't help but find Alec's determination to be around him admirable. It seems that scenario backfired at me.... He was pulled from his thoughts when Alec mentioned having a stubborn streak. He chuckled again, seeing it as clear as daylight. It wasn't a bad thing though. Wait, why do I think it isn't a bad thing? He is becoming sick around me. It doesn't matter how much he tries to conceal it, I know he feels sick because that is the logical answer. Once more he was pulled from his thoughts when Alec mentioned being able to deal with the consequences.
So he has been around more undead? Unfair.... I need to stop thinking like that, I'm supposed to be trying to come up with ways to distance us, not get all jealous that there were others.... He took in a breath, "Well... I don't know." He thought he had known but they hadn't worked out. What he did know is that the one person he wanted to be around, he couldn't, because fate had a different idea in store for them. "I guess somebody who can put up with my bull shit."
Alec nodded at the man's comment on working a lot, understanding. His own job often had quite the varying schedule, but when he had a task, he was bound to focus his all on it. He took it pretty seriously, despite his usual easy-going personality. "Hmhm, you can reply when you have the chance~ I'm often pretty busy, myself, so I get it." He explained, nodding. "Ah, yes, yes, we'll certainly see." He teased, nudging at the other. He shuddered, then, partly regretting the action as he felt the cold chill on his skin. Maybe Urijah wouldn't notice he'd started sweating as his body's temperature swelled like a fever. It was getting harder to form coherent thoughts, but he perservered, still. "Mm, well~ I understand that you would think I should care more for my health, but... If it's preventing me from doing what I actually want, I have to decide on some priorities, you know? It's... It's not fair, being like this. Not being able to interact normally with some of the most interesting people around. There has to be a way for me to overcome it. I can only think, maybe it's like poison. Maybe if I take it in small doses over time, I can build up an immunity. Well, I wouldn't call this a small dose, but... You get my point, right?" Alec grinned as the other chuckled, pleased that he could still make the frustrated man laugh. It at least meant he wasn't making things worse, with his little inviting-himself-along stunt. Looking over to him, he paused as he saw the shift in expression. Not wanting to interrupt his thoughts, he sat quietly until Urijah continue speaking. As the reply finally came, Alec grinned. "Ohh? That's certainly something to strive for. Kind of funny, considering you're the one putting up with my bullshit, at the moment."
