Welcome to The Duality of Man, an original animanga role-play that features numerous supernatural creatures. Unfortunately, these various species have distanced themselves because of the war that occurred thousands of years ago, plaguing some with eyes that only see their dualism. While others meddle themself with their differences, two groups fight, each attempting to eliminate the other in for their definition of worldly peace. These two groups of the Terror Response Syndicate (TRS) and the Assembly of Phantoms (AP). With individuals fighting merely over their differences, it brings uncertainty to the outcome of this war.
We happily accept all role-players as long as they obey the rules and are capable of meeting our word count of 50. This does include those who are unfamiliar with this style of role-playing. The staff of The Duality of Man are willing to happily help those who are new to the role-playing world so they feel comfortable on site. Feel free to message the staff if you need help, they can be found here or in the site Discord and will gladly answer questions alongside calm concerns. If you have any suggestions we would love to hear them; guests may use the support board as a suggestion area as well. Should you decide to join, may I say welcome to the site and we all hope you enjoy your time here.

Summer 2024
Heat has broken through into a glorious summer. The snow has entirely dried through the spring, leaving to the brilliance of the warmer months. Terror activity has risen as people are brought out of their homes, leaving the TRS in a position of consistent work. Each are attempting to maintain victory in the endless struggle for power.
Since the wonderful members of TDOM enjoy the site enough to play around on it, this thread is to assist with the site's tidying! Functionality is important and we want to make the site functional even if its activity will be minimal at best!

How long do I have to prove myself for you to finally see that?! I work harder than anybody else, but you just keep dragging me down!
[attr="class","carvenotes"]elysia wilts Here is the starter post! c: I will say it again, I am SO hyped for this thread. :D Also, again with my really long starters! XD Enjoy~!
[attr="class","carvetext"]June was an interesting a month, to say the least, Orion always finding the endless display of rainbows and colours created a cheery atmosphere different from the criminal-infested Lorsette he grew familiar with. The Pride Parade was on this pleasant summer day, his mother and aunt insisting they would attend and drag along the young boy with their persuasive words and pushy attitudes. As a result, he rose from his slumber earlier than he cared for to get dressed and assure he would receive his morning cup of caffeine. He was addicted to the bitter beverage, the lack of health benefits never crossing the young man's mind as he poured it into a plain, black thermos and mixed cream and sugar into the dark liquid. Rich, black coffee with a hint of cream and sugar was a heavenly concoction, crucial for these mornings where his family planned on touring him around throughout the day. Groggily, Orion had dressed in a red t-shirt and a pair of blue jeans, a yawn escaping his mouth despite the coffee he continuously drank. Once dressed, he slowly moved through the house, coffee in hand as he assured everything was in place to leave Bosco comfortably at home.
Food was left in the bowl, the water was filled and finally, the doggy door unlocked to allow Bosco freedom into the fenced backyard. Throughout the morning, Orion steadily moved through the house, assuring all of his precious dog's favourite toys were conveniently placed for his enjoyment. Another sip of coffee was taken when Orion picked up the treat ball, smoothly stuffing the ball for Bosco to chase around and remember how much they loved him. Once finished, the officer placed the gently onto the ground, leaving it for his beloved pet. A few sips of coffee were enjoyed until his aunt woke, breakfast being cooked before his mother was roused and assisted into her wheelchair. They gleefully consumed their breakfast of pancakes while discussing the events of the day. Excitement filled the household, Orion's auntie Melody and mother excited about heading to the Pride Parade. When they finished eating their food, they all prepared for the parade, packing several water bottles before helping his mother into this aunt's old car.
When they finally arrived, they parked a few blocks down, his aunt quickly unfolding the wheelchair before they assisted Erika into the chair. Promptly, his aunt walked around the chair, grabbing the handles with a broad smile on her face. There was a glimmer of excitement in their eyes at the prospect of witnessing the parade. Rainbows lined the streets, Orion quietly glancing around, hands hidden in his pockets and a small grin on his face.
"Ori, let's stand near the park for the parade, less pushing your mother around," Auntie Melody gleefully stated.
A soft laugh escaped Erika's mouth. "This will be so exciting!"
Immediately, Orion smiled, nodding at his aunt's words. The trio approached the park area, stalls being set up for the following celebration once the parade finished passing. Quietly, the young man stood beside his mother and aunt, the group arriving early to avoid being forced in an ill-favourable location. Chatter transpired between Erika and Melody, the young man's eyes wandering curiously around their location. Flags of varying colours were hung from the buildings, most holding the classic rainbow pattern while others were coloured in unfamiliar styles. Admittedly, Orion did not research much into these occasions, but gladly planned on supporting others. People were gathering to line the sidewalks, long stretches of ribbon ties between sturdy posts creating a barrier between the parade's participants and the spectators. As time proceeded, people began gathering, the crowded area leaving little room for moments for those watching. When the parade finally began, rainbows consumed the streets as Orion stared wide-eyed at the colourful floats and people celebrating their pride. A smile graced the dark-haired man's lips as he quietly watched from the sidelines, occasionally peeking over at his overzealous mother and aunt who were clearly enjoying the spectacle.
Those smiling faces were the reason the RCMP officer booked the day off work in favour of spending it with his auntie Melody and mother. One was the woman who embraced them, took himself and his mother into her home, showered them with love and assisted with the strenuous recovery. Then the delightful, lively face of his mother, the woman who assured he would survive the dangerous encounter. When he required her most, she shoved the brutal man away, screamed for him to run before enduring the abhorrent nightmares which awaited her at the hands of her vicious ex-boyfriend; his mother was a hero. She was somebody with an intense devotion to her family and a willingness to sacrifice her life to allow her child to survive happily in this world. Nothing could be accomplished to properly thank her for saving him all those years ago, for supporting him and placing his health above her own. Eventually, the floats lazily passed by, each unqiue, but having the same rainbow colours in support of Pride Month. For those precious minutes, everybody felt happy, safety wrapping around the young man and his family like a warm blanket. Gradually, the floats finished passing, the small group soon turning to enter the festival.
Casually, auntie Melody manned the handles of the wheelchair, her trained muscles and steady steps allowing her to smoothly navigate Erika's chair.
"That was wonderful! Everything is so colourful, it's... just beautiful," Erika said softly.
A smile lit the young man's face as he glanced at his mother. "I'm glad your having fun, mom."
The woman smiled back, a tight-lipped grin acting as response. "You better have fun too, honey."
"I'm having fun if you two are," he stated with a large smile.
Both Erika and Melody smiled, soft giggles escaping their lips while they proceeded through the festival. Their eyes were glancing around at the numerous stalls, their group curiously gazing at the festivities. Never had they attended a Pride Festival, thus their curiousities were placed into exploring the area. Silently, Orion followed his aunt and mother, eyes flitting around the scene, surprised at the colourful nature of these festivals. There was an innocent beauty to everything which Orion could admire, however, he wondered how long it would be until his steel-blue eyes were exposed to the horrible crimes in Lorsette once again.
[newclass=".carvetext"]font-family:Source Sans Pro;text-align:justify;font-size:11px;padding:15px;padding-left:20px;padding-right:20px;[/newclass][newclass=".carvecredit"]width:475px;font-size:12px;text-align:right;margin-left:5px;[/newclass]
the annoying beeping of her alarm finally reached her. waking her and wishing she could still have a couple more minutes or at least another hour or two. a yawn escaped her lips as she threw the blankets off herself. she wasn't a fan of early mornings, but it was all routine by now. she grabbed her towel and headed towards the bath. a shower first thing in the morning helped her wake up. perhaps if she used cold water, but the warm water was so nice and inviting.
though if she remained in the soothing waters any longer it would make her late. after getting dressed she towel dried her hair as best as she could before she ran a brush through her hair before heading to the kitchen to grab a couple things for a quick breakfast. she stuffed an apple, an orange and a bottle of water into her bag before grabbing her colorful apron. she was excited about today. yes, she had to work during the parade, but at least she would be out of the cafe. she would be outside running a booth on behalf of the cafe. thankfully she wasn't running it by herself. otherwise she wouldn't be able to sneak off and wander through the park.
she grabbed her keys before heading towards the front entrance."i'm leaving."she called out to anyone who was still at home. though she was pretty sure both her brother and father had left before her. though if it just so happened one of them was still around they would know she was leaving for work. she wasn't sure when she had picked up the habit. yes, it was a little embarrassing telling someone you're leaving especially if no one else was home, but she had been doing it for so long it didn't bother her anymore.
once at work, thankfully the hard part was done. what she needed to do was help pack the goodies that would be distributed at the event. there were full sizes of several pastries and of course the samples. the objective was to not only advertise for the cafe, but half of the proceeds would be donated. after everything was loaded she quickly grabbed a coffee before heading over to the park.
elysia hummed quietly to herself while she helped set up. she noticed groups of people here and there getting ready for to watch the parade and some even seemed like they were going to be in the parade. she wouldn't be able to catch the whole thing, but whatever she did manage to catch would be nice. it wasn't until she saw the influx of people did she realize the parade was over. she had managed to sneak away for a few seconds. catching a couple of floats pass by. everything was so colorful and vibrant. it was good weather for the parade as well.
now back at the booth things were starting to get busy. one couldn't come to any sort of event and not expect there to be food vendors. their was various kinds scattered around. she had spotted an ice cream stand when she had come back. she would have to visit that before they left. once it slowed down she grabbed a couple of coupons. she figured it would be easier if they passed these out and not the actual samples. the last thing she needed was to get bumped into. she wasn't that clumsy, but she would rather avoid dropping any of the goodies if she could."should i bring you some ice cream?"elysia asked her co-worker. heading off once she got an answer. along the way she started handing out the coupons. telling the potential customers what they could redeem if they headed towards their table. she wanted to get rid of most of the coupons before heading to get her treat."hello, if you have a sweet tooth please try our pastries."elysia said with a smile as she continued to advertise to anyone who looked her way. she would of said she stood out with her colorful apron, but everyone else had a splash of color or two on them as well.
[attr="class","carvetext"]Colours consumed the park entirely, a wide-eyed Orion glancing around at the impressive display of rainbows and other flags representing the pride of different sexualities. The impressive spectacle thoroughly captured the young man's attention as he admired the decor. A majority of the party was coloured in the recognizable rainbow pattern a majority of people associated with Pride Month and the LGBTQ+ community. The rainbow flag was the most renown compared to other flags of the other LGBTQ+ related ones. Gradually, Orion and his family walked through the party area, enjoying the vibrant scenery and attitudes of people around them. Smiles were evident, broad as people enjoyed the company of others and compliment the colourful garbs they wore. Joyful conversation could be vaguely heard as they passed groups of chattering people. Despite the pleasant atmosphere, Orion easily noticed the cliques of species staying beside their own groupings. They interacted civilly, however, the human believed it was merely to avoid being the individual who ruined the marvellous celebration of pride.
Wide smiles were evident on his mother and aunt's faces the longer they explored the excellently decorated park. Merely witnessing their grinning faces influenced Orion to smile as they continued through the mass of people. Slowly, they moved through the crowd, auntie Melody carefully holding the wheelchair's handles, eyes flitting around as she remained alert. The female nurse desired to avoid people accidentally bumping into Erika's chair or cause a bumpier ride than needed. The trio remained near the sidewalks, the family knowing the large wheels of the chair standing a better chance travelling over the flat surface. Eventually, they reached the center where the fountain stood tall, rainbow-coloured decorations hanging off the beautiful centerpiece of Crow Feather Park. As they proceeded forward, they passed by a young girl with ginger hair and a colourful apron, the woman cheerfully advertising. There was a pause as Orion stopped momentarily, memory churning as he realized who the young woman was. Those high school days where he played copius amounts of sports and attempted to pull his life together finally provided a name for the face.
"Elysia?" He inquired quietly.
Upon hearing Orion speak, his aunt Melody ceased touring Erika around, using the opportunity to rest herself from pushing around the wheelchair. Admittedly, in Lorsette, he never expected to find his former classmates, some of them leaving for post-secondary training or busying themselves with work and school. Alas, according to the apron, Elysia's work today likely involved running a booth for the pride month festivities.
[newclass=".carvetext"]font-family:Source Sans Pro;text-align:justify;font-size:11px;padding:15px;padding-left:20px;padding-right:20px;[/newclass][newclass=".carvecredit"]width:475px;font-size:12px;text-align:right;margin-left:5px;[/newclass]
a small yawn escaped her lips as she continued walking. perhaps she should of grabbed an extra coffee. or at least added a shot or two of espresso. sure that extra shot of caffeine would keep her awake. that's alright though soon enough she would be having sugar and that would give her some alertness. she wasn't even that tired. she had gone to bed at a reasonable time. she didn't even have to get up as early as most days. maybe that was it. she slept a little too much. it wasn't like she was particularly stressed about something. she had been in the past, so much so that she couldn't really sleep or if she did it would be for a couple of hours. though really that stress had been worry. she had been worrying about things out of her control, but wasn't everyone like that at times?
it would pass, it wasn't like she was ready to fall asleep standing up. let alone with all the people and noise around her. she would stop once in a while and just hand out the coupons before continuing towards her destination. looking at a couple of different booths along the way. apart from the other booths that were also selling food. she spotted a couple of booths selling clothing, jewellery and other random trinkets. she wasn't sure if her brother or her father were going to make it to the festivities. she would have to bring them back a little souvenir.
she would definitely have to come back later and browse more thoroughly. she stopped once more and continued passing out the coupons and letting people know where their table was located. she was just about to continue walking when she heard someone call her name. she looked up and it wasn't until she turned around did she find the source of the voice. she was a little surprised to see him. that wasn't to say that he wasn't the type to come to these sorts of things. she just figured he would of left? the city was a fairly decent size, but you still had kids who wanted to leave and explore the world. had he still been here the entire time?
why hadn't they bumped into each other before? well, that was easy to answer, she rarely went out. she had stuck to the same routine since the had graduated from high school and entered college. go to work and then go to school. she needed to say something and not just stand there like a surprised idiot."orion, hi."she said with a smile before realizing he wasn't alone. why was she terrible with names. then again she never really met them. the other kids would simply speak of her or them."how's it going?"she smiled at them.
[attr="class","carvetext"]Classmates were a rarity to interact with nowadays, however, the positive or negative sense of nostalgia usually made these meetings interesting. Reminiscing about those old school days always brought forth different strains of emotions. For Orion, these feelings were extremely mixed and uncertain. School was an intriguing topic for the young human since around the time he was handling a pleavy of different stressful situations. The abusive situation and later his mother's disability resulted in everything being messy. Sports were the few methods of socializing Orion received, impart from the stigma he placed on the supernatural. Socializing was difficult, the dark-haired man frequently struggled through school, therapy and assisting his mother. Friends were lacking, Orion being renowned for spending time with his mother, aunt, dog or by his lonesome. There were times he wondered if his classmates knew his name, but it appeared the ginger-haired woman remembered him. Admittedly, Orion knew a limited amount of information about Elysia, however, he managed to properly identify her.
The young woman was somebody Orion hardly knew, the knowledge he possessed about Elysia was the few fleeting comments. He was aware of her species alongside a few minor facts, but nothing particularly personal about the ginger. People seldom gossiped with the dark-haired boy with daddy issues and a feisty attitude; most of his conversations pertained to things like complaining about bad hockey games or commanding others on excellent hits in baseball. A smile touched his lips, accomplished to appear slightly friendlier. A soft giggle escaped Melody and Erika's lips, the two women automatically assuming Orion's attention was captured because of the young girl's beauty. They were incorrect since curiosity drew Orion in, the sheer unlikelihood of seeing one of his classmates making it a surprise. Fortunately, both appeared astonished to have found one another during the celebration.
"Pretty good," he answered with a respectable smile. "How are things on your end?"
After some additional giggling, his mother and aunt began whispered in hushed voices. Seconds passed before a pair of mischievous smiles lit their lips.
"Ori, we're going to look around a bit more. Catch up when you're done," his mother said happily smirking in the process.
The human's eyes flitted towards the two woman, somewhat surprised. "Um... okay..."
Those mere words prompted auntie Melody to guide the wheelchair elsewhere, the pair happily giggling and hoping their beliefs were correct. His eyes remained on them for a few moments, cluelessly gazing before slowly turning back to Elysia. Sometimes his family could be strange, at least in his opinion. He hardly understood the giggling fits or why they desired to leave him alone when he accompanied them for their happiness. Either way, he stayed put, deciding to briefly catch up with an old classmate.
[newclass=".carvetext"]font-family:Source Sans Pro;text-align:justify;font-size:11px;padding:15px;padding-left:20px;padding-right:20px;[/newclass][newclass=".carvecredit"]width:475px;font-size:12px;text-align:right;margin-left:5px;[/newclass]
as much as you say you will keep in touch it just doesn't happen. or it does and sooner or later both parties get busy with their own lives and messages don't get sent. it's part of life, but that didn't me you couldn't re-establish a connection. elysia's social circle wasn't big to begin with. which was fine with her. to her it wasn't about how many friends you have, but the quality of the friendships.
though she had to admit it was interesting to see who still stuck around here. she couldn't imagine leaving her father or her brother. it would feel odd not seeing them all the time. but why was she thinking about this right now? she felt bad for knowing about them, but not really knowing them personally.
orion had always been a quiet kid, but he seemed friendly enough. then again she wasn't super social in school either. she had she small group of friends and of course her brother. it didn't matter where you went gossip was always rampant. so who would be the topic for sometime. orion.
honestly they didn't have much interaction in school. they might of talked briefly, but if anything it was because it was school related. once she remembered how to speak she had directed the question back at him. she nodded."that's good, enjoying the parade?"was that okay to ask? he did seem busy and she didn't want to take up his time. after all he was here with his family and she should be working."good as well."she laughed nervously. sometimes it just felt like she didn't know what to say.
she could feel the warmth in her cheeks and it was kind of hard not to notice the ladies with him giggling to themselves. she was doing a fine job embarrassing herself, she had forgotten they were still there."sorry i didn't mean to interrupt."she told him as she watched them continue on without orion."ori huh? that's cute."she accidentally blurted out.
[attr="class","carvetext"]Throughout school, Orion mostly knew of Elysia through mutually shared classes and the impossible-to-overhear gossip from obnoxiously loud, chatty students. Otherwise, the human boy merely knew a few minor facts about the ginger-haired woman, however, he knew the most crucial to him. As expected of most people he met, she possessed supernatural abilities, something Orion was always wary and loathsome of. A majority of his life was filled with disasters onset by supernatural creatures, alas, his hatred towards them never surfaced in conversation. Occasionally, there would be the mumbled complaint when he arrived home, but Orion knew better than to allow his own prejudice control the entirety of his decision making. Supernatural creatures were troublesome and untrustworthy, but there could be innocence and validation to their actions at times. In this situation, it was mostly the lurking sense of nostalgia and curiousity about former schoolmates who began surviving in this frightful world; working in the RCMP made him plenty aware of the intense criminal activity in Lorsette.
When asked about the parade, he shrugged, "It's alright. A little crowded for me though. Are you?"
A brief nod of acknowledgement was provided when Elysia mentioned being good. Alas, his gaze drifted towards his aunt and mother as they stated he could catch up with them later. The soft squeaks of rotating wheels on his mother's wheelchair could narrowly be heard as the pair made their departure. Subtly, Orion lifted a brow when he noticed the pair quietly talking with one another, smiles on their faces and giggles leaving their mouth; he wondered what was so funny. Casually, Orion shrugged at the apology, not bothered by the interruption as long as Melody and Erika were enjoying the festivities. Before he could speak on the subject, his nickname was complimented, resulting in a faint red touching his cheeks.
"Wh-what?" He stumbled out.
Positive remarks were oddly a rarity for Orion, the dark-haired human usually only hearing them from his aunt, mother and fellow officers; the last being the least likely. However, compliments which could potentially be seen as flirtatious was nonexistent in his experiences. Most people attempted conversation, but noticed his oftentimes aloof and loner-type attitude and leave. As a result, he was clueless on how to handle this situation now.
[newclass=".carvetext"]font-family:Source Sans Pro;text-align:justify;font-size:11px;padding:15px;padding-left:20px;padding-right:20px;[/newclass][newclass=".carvecredit"]width:475px;font-size:12px;text-align:right;margin-left:5px;[/newclass]
was this odd? to be talking to someone you didn't know too much about? it wasn't like she had avoided him on purpose. if anything she tired to talk to everyone in her class. she tried to be polite and inclusive. despite all the gossip she was the type to want to hear the actual truth from the person. not that she would walk up to someone and start questioning them. she wasn't nosy and liked to give people their space.
she knew all too well how cruel kids could be. she tried her best to have some sort of conversation with orion. it was rather difficult when you had nothing to go off. she had no idea what his likes or dislikes were. what he enjoyed to do, nothing of the sort. she nodded at his answer."oh, i wasn't able to catch the actual parade, but i did get to see some of the floats before it started."she told him before explaining a bit more."i'm working for the bakery. everyone loves food. so we have a booth here..um, yeah."she said with a smile."oh that reminds me."she said before digging into the pocket of her apron."here, so you guys can get something good."she tells him before handing him three coupons. the same ones she had been passing around before they ran into each other.
without a second thought it had slipped out. she called him cute, okay well his nickname. it was practically the same thing wasn't it? as if she wasn't embarrassed already. she had to go and say something awkward like that. she was ready to turn tail and run. to forget she had said that. she didn't know what to say. what was she going to say to that. she wasn't going to repeat herself. it would probably make matters worse. out of all the times she embarrassed herself this had to be one of the top ones."nothing, nothing."she tried to change the subject. though what could she say that would be a good alternative she had no idea.
[attr="class","carvetext"]Curiously, Orion's steel-blue eyes analyzed Elysia, finally admiring her beauty. The young, ginger-haired girl has grown since school, or at least, the human man never noticed during his final years of school. Those days he was distracted with proper health and excelling in his studies to graduate school and properly enlist in RCMP training. While he loathed the supernatural, he would admit Elysia looked wonderful despite being in mere work attire. Gorgeous, long, ginger hair flowing elegantly down and cascading over the shoulders and those peculiar, yet, magnificent eyes. From the standards of conventional appearances, Elysia was a beautiful young woman. For a few moments Orion looked over her appearance before finally returning his unique-coloured eyes to her face. When she spoke about missing the parade itself, Orion nodded in response. The explanation furthered as the ginger-haired woman explained that she worked at a booth for the Pride Month Celebration. Suddenly, she grabbed papers from her pocket, handing over a small bundle of coupons and giving them to him. A soft smile touched his face as he took them.
"Thanks, my mom loves sweet, so she will be happy," he responded with a small smile.
Carefully, he slipped the coupons into his pocket, keeping them safe to show Melody and Erika once he finished talking with Elysia. A subtle, red touched Orion's cheeks remained on the human's cheeks, the dark-haired man uncertain if he heard her correctly. When she changed the subject, he allowed it in hopes of avoiding the awkward circumstances. There was an awkward pause of silence before Orion decided to proceed with their conversation.
"Soooo... are you going to school?" Orion asked quietly.
The question was asked awkwardly, but Orion decided to begin the conversation again, he would start with school. Most teenagers would attend post-secondary after they finished high school. People required a good career to survive in this world after all, and few people were an exception to that.
[newclass=".carvetext"]font-family:Source Sans Pro;text-align:justify;font-size:11px;padding:15px;padding-left:20px;padding-right:20px;[/newclass][newclass=".carvecredit"]width:475px;font-size:12px;text-align:right;margin-left:5px;[/newclass]
she brushed her hair behind her ear as they continued talking. for as much as they talked during school or more like the lack of communication between them. this was actually going fairly well. she liked to think she was easy to approach, let alone easy to talk to. she had been so busy rambling on about how she missed the parade she didn't ask him if there was something in particular that he had liked. though she had heard him, she didn't ask him further about the crowds. she could totally understand that, but when it came to events like this. there were tons of people. hopefully everyone was being nice.
the last thing you wanted at any sort of event was for something terrible to happen and ruing your fun time. after all most came out with friends or family. she handed over a couple of the coupons she had left over and smiled."you're welcome. i'm glad i didn't forget to give you some then. i mean you can't go wrong with sweets. the blueberry muffins are the best."she told him with a nod.
she couldn't think of anything. she could of said she was heading back to work. or simply said see you later and walked away. nope, she remained there like an idiot. at least her face wasn't as red as it had been before. she was glad he didn't question her further about it. she was glad he break the silence first. clearly she was full of ideas, but wasn't able to execute any of them."oh, yeah. i'm taking classes for the culinary program."she told him with a nod."what about you?"
[attr="class","carvetext"]Considering they hardly interacted throughout high school, this instance of conversation was pleasant for Orion. Their efforts at socializing were going surprising well, albeit, slightly awkward with some pauses. Presumably, the mild strain existed because of their lack of thorough familiarity with one another. Part of him wondered how this conversation would go if he possessed better social skills or interacted with her prior to this moment. Mere curiousities anybody could hold should they ponder something extensively. The coupons were a welcomed gift, especially since Erika had a sweet-tooth, that gene being carried on to her young son. While he would never inform anybody of his enjoyment of delectable desserts, he would definitely use the opportunity to get something attractive to his own sweet-tooth. A smile touched his lips when Elysia provided a recommendation for which pastry to taste once he arrived at the booth. Admittedly, Orion was excited to gain the opportunity to enjoy some delicious baked goods. The treat seemed like something excellent to nibble on during their walk through the party.
An awkward silence arrived because of comment Orion heard escape the ginger-haired woman's lips. Fortunately, the conversation was salvageable due to his inquiry about her schooling. In this situation, his curiosities were piqued since Elysia was a former schoolmate of his. Her supernatural qualities resulted in the human appearing more tense than expected, natural discomfort around those with abilities making it an unconscious twice. When she mentioned culinary school, Orion smiled at her.
"Then I bet those muffins will be good," he responded quietly.
The comment held a slight neutrility to the tone, however, there were subtle hints of genuine belief and attempted friendliness. Throughout his career, he learned to display himself as a respectable individual when required. Naturally, the question was reciprocated, something common in small talk.
"I'm not in school anymore. I trained in the RCMP and got accepted onto the force here," Orion explained, smiling.
Pride was obvious in his smile since succeeding in RCMP training among the few things that resulted in joy surging through his body. Unlike most programs, RCMP training was incredibly quick, however, the age requirements was what delayed Orion being able to join the Lorsette RCMP. Succeeding in those goals was something Orion always dreamed of. He always wanted to help other people, and finally, he could protect people from the horrible in the world; from people like his malicious father.
[newclass=".carvetext"]font-family:Source Sans Pro;text-align:justify;font-size:11px;padding:15px;padding-left:20px;padding-right:20px;[/newclass][newclass=".carvecredit"]width:475px;font-size:12px;text-align:right;margin-left:5px;[/newclass]
despite the awkwardness of the situation. elysia was enjoying her time with him. she rarely interacted with people outside her friend group. unless it was for work. it was harder to make friends with people you didn't see everyday. sure they stumbled a bit along the way, but now they were back on track and she hoped she didn't embarrass herself anymore than she already had.
she smiled at his response."they are pretty good. i'm not saying that because i made them. i didn't this time. i mean if i was bad at baking i doubt they'd let me in the kitchen."she told him with a laugh."i would think people would tell me. i mean how can one learn from their mistakes if they aren't told."
"do you have a favorite?"not only did they carry muffins, but a variety of breads and pastries. it wasn't long before he told her that he wasn't attending school. she nodded and smiled."that's wonderful! congratulations. i'm sure it wasn't easy."she knew it had to be tough. they probably had to do so many things to be qualified. let alone all the test they would probably have to take and she was certain it wasn't just written ones."you're both so brave."she told him."my brother joined the trs. i could never do what you guys do."she said with a small laugh. honestly she knew she couldn't. she'd be way to worried about other people and with the situations she would probably be in tears half the time. they had to be to be able to deal with the unknown. it wasn't a typical job like hers. she knew for the most part how the day would play out. maybe they'd run out of one things or another, but it wouldn't be hazardous.
[attr="class","carvetext"]Conversation between them was gradual, proceeding at a steady pace as Orion attempted social contact. Together, they appeared to be transitioning slowly between topics, hesitation showing their awkwardness over the situation. Alas, their mutual struggles in social interaction hardly damper their moods or the conversation once it returned. The complement to the blueberry muffins was to tease the ginger-haired woman, although, it appeared Elysia did not bake those goods. A small smile remained on Orion’s face despite the failure of his compliment; this was merely a discussion between former schoolmates. He even assumed they both craved the nostalgia which arrived with catching up. He softly chuckled at Elysia’s response to his statement on the blueberry muffins. It was sensible that she would be informed if she was not an excellent cook. When inquired about his favourite treat, Orion pauses in thought over it. He never necessarily had a favourite, his sweet tooth gladly devouring any delicious confections. In response, Orion shrugged, unable to pick a favoured dessert delight amidst the many options.
“I don’t. Never thought about it really,” he answered quietly.
He supposed everything was his favourite, however, Orion refused to admit that information. The last thing he desired was to come across as the stereotypical doughnut-munching cop people saw in cartoons. A smile lit Orion’s face when he was provided congratulations on joining the RCMP. The proudest accomplishment gave him the greatest emotions of pure happiness. When she mentioned the difficulty, he nodded in response, memories of the trainers pushing him hard flooding into his mind. The smile remained as Elysia proceeded to speak, even mentioning her brother.
“It’s not easy, but we need those types of people,” Orion responded quietly.
Defenders were always required, people willing to face peril throughout the years, especially in Lorsette. The city was filled with endless dangers and innocent people. It was something Orion learned at a young age, starting with his abusive drunkard of a father and proceeding as childhood naivety was shed.

she smiled despite the awkward beginnings she was enjoying their conversation. it was like she was forgetting something. well, she had done her part and passed out the coupons. sure she still had a couple left over, but she managed to pass out the majority of them. it was fine, after all she was told to take her time. his comment had gone completely over her head. she took it at face value and missed the underlying teasing tone.
she continued asking him if he had a favorite. she smiled as he responded that he wasn't exactly sure."so if i were to make you something you'd eat it? i mean how can you find out if my skills are up to par."she said with a small laugh. what was she saying? sure she'd bake him something, but was she going to hand deliver? what could she make it? did he like muffins, cake or pies? the possibilities were endless. she hadn't known he was still around and honestly she had no idea where he lived. though she did know where he worked. would that be alright though? she was starting to over think this whole things now."i mean if you want. i'm not going to force you to eat something i've made."she said with a smile.
she nods at his words. it was true, they were needed. there would always be people who couldn't defend themselves and then there would be others that without a second thought would jump in to save them."don't forget take care of yourself."she told him with another smile. not that he wasn't being careful, but it wouldn't hurt to let him know.
[attr="class","carvetext"]Secret sweet tooth was assumed to be an uncommon affliction for most individuals, however, Orion attempted to resist the delicious temptation. Those unhealthy foods were definitely not the source of energy for the RCMP officer. Sugar could be fine if managed properly, however, the black-haired human had his problems refusing sweets placed before him. Alas, offers of delicious delights were difficult to refuse, especially with a rather powerful sweet tooth which constantly demanded those confections. The unexpected offer to create those sweet pastries was something easily tempting to the dark-haired man. These types of offers were uncommon, thus Orion fancied the idea of "testing" Elysia's skills and gaining some sweet delights in the process. Naturally, his good conscious chirped about the requirement to be healthy, but certainly a few pasteries would not cause any problems, right? The options were open, meaning the human could choose something on the healthier end of the scale. There was a pause, Orion pondering his choices until finally smiling as a solution came to mind.
"How about... you make blueberry muffins too and I can compare," he teased happily. "Then I will know how up to par you are."
There was a small smile on Orion's face as he spoke, making his healthier decision. Muffins with berries mixed in were slightly healthier, however, only slightly. There was bound to be plenty of sugar placed in muffins, but the ravenette decided not to worry about it. He shrugged when Elysia states it was his choice.
“I can’t really complain,” he responded.
Receiving sweet delights from an attractive ginger-haired woman sounded wonderful, at least in Orion’s opinion. He would never state it in words, but he could mentally admit Elysia possessed a beauty to her. The request to take care of himself was responded to with a small smile.
“Trust me when I say I try,” Orion said quietly, then paused briefly. “You take care of yourself too… You’re maybe a baker, but you should be careful too.”
There were plenty of people who foolishly overworked themselves, resulting in exhaustion claiming them. Thus while Orion was required to attempt to avoid bodily harm, weariness could easily become a deadlier force. The ravenette was not worried about thought of injuries, a plethora of broken bones and various other sports related injuries already marked his past after all. Crutches could be dexterously moved around on and the pain manageable as long as he did not go overboard. Either way, he was confident he could handle any injuries which came his way.
