orion hollins tell me reality is better than a dream. general info
appearance At a somewhat tall height of 5’10”, Orion is nothing particularly incredible, allowing him to blend in as a normal person in the crowd. He is rather slender, lean muscles from years of exercising covering his frame; he even goes length of having abs. When he considered joining the RCMP, Orion worked hard to become stronger, thus keeping his body healthy and strong. Clothing can frequently hide Orion’s muscles since they are lean, resulting in plenty of people underestimating him. He has a fair complexion covered with a few scars from when he played sports, his recklessness oftentimes resulting in scars. Several pale lines mark certain points in his body because of the variety of injuries he has managed to receive. These scars are very pale, being hardly noticeable since a majority of them were from his past. From years of sports and work, Orion’s hands are heavily calloused, making it obvious he is a hard-worker focused on doing his best and proving himself. Semi-long, thick, black hair covers Orion’s head in a mullet styling. The man’s thick hair is an attribute from his mother and something she always adored. Oftentimes, Orion merely brushes it down, rarely styling it in time-consuming manners, however, he may pull a portion of it into a ponytail. Knots are common in his longish hair, messiness conquering his thick locks frequently, furthermore, the slight waviness of his hair makes knots more common. The long bangs that reach below his eyes of his style occasionally get into his eyes, but he usually brushes them away very quickly. High cheekbones lead down to a strong, sharpened chin, giving his face a slender appearance. Mysterious steel-blue eyes tend to go unnoticed on most occasions because they lack vibrancy, the darkness of the shade making it difficult to realize the true colour. There are subtle hints of purple to his eyes, resulting in conflicting beliefs in their colour. Work hours feature Orion wearing his RCMP uniform which is always crisp and freshly cleaned since he carefully assures its kept clean. He wears everything required of him, including the hefty, black vest which wraps around his torso. Otherwise, Orion prefers casual garbs on account of their simplicity and blending style to avoid sticking out. Dark colours are frequently worn, usually plain t-shirts or tank tops. Rarely, he would wear long-sleeved shirts, however, would consider it should it be extremely cold outside. Dark jeans are favoured, blue jeans only being an occasional pair to wear. He does adore the colour red and this is reflected by his favourite hoodie which is a plain, red one. Whenever possible, Orion will avoid formal wear since he finds it extremely uncomfortable. personality
abilities Until sarcastic comments become a power, no. backstory TRIGGER WARNINGS: Domestic Abuse, Violence Broken... it easily transformed into the best word to describe the Hollins’ family from the instant Orion’s mother, Erika, started dating his father, Shawn. Initially, there were hand-holding, genuine emotions, but eventually, Shawn transformed into an abusive man. Bruises, cuts and other injuries appeared on Erika’s body, her friends and family pleading for her to leave the relationship. Yet, sweet apologies and promises to never do it again kept Erika in the cycle, the woman eventually getting pregnant in hopes the abuse would stop. She was foolish, naive and loved Shawn Olmsted too much. When she informed Shawn she was pregnant with his child, he appeared unphased and unconcerned over the woman carrying his child. Abuse remained common, Erika constantly screaming Shawn! Please, the baby! to narrowly escape those frightful moments. Then when their son, Orion, was finally born on a stormy evening, the household grew more toxic. Whenever Orion cried, Shawn would scream at the child until Erika woke to soothe her sobbing baby. Upon birth, his father was careless and emotionally abusive to his young son, Orion’s childhood becoming a living hell. Screams echoed through the hallways, the young boy always flinching before slowly leaving the room. He always found his mother sobbing from a recent wound or derogatory comments while dad clenched a beer bottle and held it to his lips. Always, Orion would crawl to his mother, wrapping his small arms around her, feeling her warmth and listening to her beating heart. Mommy… don’t cry. He would always murmur those words while his mother’s arms wrapped around him, squeezing his shoulders. Those arms squeezing around his shoulders always prompted Orion to tear up, the young man hiding his face in his mother’s chest. He always tried to ignore his father’s screams, those horrible words, the voice that always made him cry, but he was always too loud. Physical abuse hardly touched the young boy, Orion remembering vividly how Erika would protect him from his drunkard father. She would undergo the burns from the fire he created, the mental warzone when his summoning hexes manifested things she feared and the bruises from being punched. There were moments his father roughly grabbed his arm, creating bruising because of how forceful Shawn was. Terrified, the young boy always attempted to avoid his father’s rage, scared of the hell that transcended. He attempted to stay near his mother, the woman who genuinely felt like a parent to him, he never thought he could potentially make it worse. At times, Shawn was furious over how his son would always sprint to his mother’s side, his words becoming viler. Carefully, Erika’s hand would cover his ears, but Orion would hear every frightening word. Throughout his childhood, Orion feared his father and the abuse he faced and for only fleeting moments would there be happiness. School finally began for the young boy when he was 5 years old, however, he hated the concept. His father was already starting to threaten him, screaming that if the young boy mentioned anything about his home life, he would receive a beating. Constantly, he pleaded for his mother to allow him to remain at home. There were frightful notions of teachers treating him similar and worries about his mother’s physical health should he leave. The first day of attendance was met with the young boy clinging to his mother, begging to stay home. Sending Orion to school was a heartbreaking action for Erika, her young son’s clinginess making it difficult, however, she knew the school would keep him safe. When Orion finally went into the classroom, he began to learn something peculiar about the world, everybody possessed a better life than his… Everybody had loving parents, abuse nonexistent, their lives happy and merely witnessing it made Orion jealous and resentful. He became a loner, preferring to sit by himself instead of play with the other children. Unfortunately, his behaviour made him the perfect candidate for relentless bullying. These children used their powers to harm Orion, the human boy being helpless to defend himself against those stronger than him. He became a troublemaker, lashing out at them in a desperate attempt to escape. The young boy was filled with anger and spite of the world as everything he knew became associated with violence and fear. As time progressed and Orion became 7, the built up anger towards his bullies resulted in Orion beating one of them and being sent to the office. Miss Hollins, we hate to inform you, but your son was involved in a fight today. We believe it is best you come to pick him up immediately. Begrudgingly, Orion was slumped in his chair, arms crossed and a scowl on his face. His mother’s voice boomed through the hallway when she found him, Orion shrinking back as she quickly grabbed his hand and spoke with the principal. Several words escaped his mother’s lips, scolding him for his actions while Orion crossed his arms and pouted. Afterwards, silence reigned until the young boy finally mumbled they started it… they’re just like dad. Hurt filled Erika, her eyes clouding over with sorrow and horror as she scolded him again, the silence returning again. Alas, the abuse proceeded for another few months as Erika protected her young son. Those promises from Shawn about ceasing his violent and abusive ways kept the naive woman clinging to hope but made her son suffer for the consequences. Throughout those years, Orion was beyond unhappy with life, his angry and resentful attitude only increasing. He had poor problem-solving skills and got frustrated easily because of his unstable and violent surroundings. Unfortunately, it took Erika months to discover how her decisions were severely impacting her son. Another fight occurred, Orion’s mother being the only responsible parent willing to care for the young boy. On the way home, she finally made the decision which changed everything. Sorrow and worry clouded her eyes as she gazed at the dark-haired boy, her child she fought so desperately to protect. There, she made a promise to change everything, silence reigning as she drove them to the house of horrors. When Orion left the vehicle, he was surprised at the words which escaped his mother’s lips. Pack your things, Ori. We’re going to your aunt’s. The young boy hurried to his room, obeying his mother’s commands. Auntie Melody was a kinder soul, Orion thoroughly aware there would be a sense of safety under her roof. They packed their belongings quickly, his mother insisting to only grab his favourite items for the time being. Once completed, Erika’s hand wrapped around her son’s open one while her other clenched tightly onto the suitcase filled with her most precious items. She was certain her husband would remain at work longer, however, when she approached the door, it open. An incident at work allowed Shawn to return home early before his girlfriend and son could escape the house. Immediately, a fight ensued as he demanded to know what was going on, several harsh swears leaving his mouth. Courageously, Erika informed her boyfriend she would be leaving their relationship and staying with her sister. The nightmare started so suddenly, Orion could hardly blink before his mother was ripped from his grasp and pushed down. The young child stumbled back, startled as his father began beating his mother, a scream impulsively erupting from the child’s mouth. He scurried, grabbing his father’s arm, pleading for him to stop hurting his mother, but Shawn’s boiled over anger promptly locked onto the child instead. There was hardly a thought to cross Orion’s mind as his father smoothly pinned his arms with a single hand, fire consuming his opened hand. The young boy’s eyes widened as he instinctively screamed for his mother as he became frightened for his life. The hand came closer, a sadistic smile crossing his father’s face while tears accumulated in Orion’s eyes. As the hand came closer, the young boy shut his eyes tight, fearing the incoming pain, but it never arrived. Miraculously, Erika managed to get to her feet and get Shawn off her child. His father screamed abhorrent words at her, but his mother’s concerns were not focused on the incoming pain from fending off the horrible name. Her gaze turned to her teary-eyed child as she shouted for him to run. Without hesitation his father closed in, Orion’s mother ending up on the ground, struggling against the large man as she screamed at her son to run. Finally, he rushed out the door, tears streaming from his cheeks as he screamed for somebody to help. Their elderly neighbour lumbered out of his home, calling to Orion to ask what was wrong. Words escaped the young boy’s mouth at lightning speed as he pleaded for somebody to save his mother. The elderly man quickly phoned the police while his wife attempted to soothe the distraught child who kept screaming about how they needed to save her. Tears were flowing from Orion’s eyes like rivers, the child’s fear of losing his mother being realized. When the RCMP and emergency services finally arrived, his father was taken into custody and his mother was found severely burned on the kitchen floor. They were quick to discover a pulse, the paramedics working hastily to provide the woman with a chance of survival. Some healing was accomplished in hopes of minimizing the damages. The officers on scene kept Orion away from the view of his burnt mother being moved to the ambulance and quickly taken away. The child’s aunt and grandparents were called to be informed about the discovery. Through mumbles and tears, Orion attempted to explain what happened but was ultimately stopped by an endless torrent of crying. The police attempted to quiet him, their voices soft and filled with sympathy as the child struggled to relay the information. When Orion’s aunt and grandparents arrived, he was sent with them, the distraught boy immediately becoming upset and inquiring about his mother. He was softly informed his mother was taken to the hospital and they would be going to visit. They travelled to the hospital together, auntie Melody struggling to soothe a sorrowful Orion who was pleading for his mother. When they arrived, they were forced to sit in a waiting room for an extensive period of time as they stabilized Erika Hollins. At the hospital, they evaluated the young boy, assuring there were no injuries on Orion. Throughout the check-up, the young boy was in a melancholic state because of the horrific circumstances which transpired. Finally, they were permitted the opportunity to see Erika, the young child tearing up when he saw his mother confined to a hospital bed. Through hushed words, they explained the lower half of his mother’s body faced the most trauma alongside their uncertainties. With the constant activity throughout the hospital, they could only heal portions of his mother’s injuries. Those on death’s door were more important than the severely burned woman suffering in a hospital bed. For days, Orion was pulled out of school as he recovered from the horrible instance. Gradually, Erika’s condition improved, Orion happiness returning when his mother was awake and talking. For weeks, the young boy was placed in therapy to recover about what occurred before finally returning to school. Each day, he visited his mother, but he failed to understand why his mother was unable to move her feet. After a while, his aunt sat down beside him and slowly began explaining the horrifying reality, his mother was paralyzed from the waist down because of the severe burns. The dreadful truth of his mother being inadequately healed easily began upsetting the young boy. Hatred of the supernatural manifested quickly, Orion quietly disliking the creatures for hurting and failing to assist his family. Months passed before Erika could return home, the woman being smoothly transferred to his aunt’s home. Work was difficult to discover because of the radical changes, Orion’s mother narrowly managing to find an at home job. Auntie Melody became an everyday face who assisted his wheelchair-bound mother and the young boy being raised by them. The new circumstances resulted in Orion receiving a long list of responsibilities around the house and the child happily accomplished those tasks. His mother’s intervention allowed him to survive the altercation, thus he felt it was necessary. Their life quickly improved, Orion’s wealthy auntie making their new home a comfy location. Their aunt worked as a nurse, thus she was extremely helpful to Erika who was slowly getting used to being unable to use her legs. The improvements allowed Orion’s emotions to become more tamed, however, the young boy still feared school. Alas, he avoided trouble since he refused to assert stress on his mother. Despite the bullying, the young boy kept his emotions calm, persevering to save Erika from the pain and stress. Years were passing, Orion becoming a mature adolescent struggling with puberty and school. The bullying ceased from the lack of reaction, although, when Orion was 13 he discovered how horribly these people were. The young man discovered them chasing a poor dog around, the young man soon lunging into action. He shouted at the boys, narrowly avoiding a physical altercation. The young St. Bernard kept Orion’s attention, the young boy petting the fluffy dog, a smile on his face. After a few moments, he convinced the dog to follow him home. Gleefully, he entered the house, showing his aunt and mother the dog he found. He spent hours begging them to let him keep the dog, the young boy already becoming attached to the St. Bernard. They eventually agreed to keep the dog if he belonged to nobody. When nobody stepped forward for the dog, Orion named the St. Bernard Bosco, the young boy discovering a friend in his dog. The pair were closed, Orion playing with his dog constantly, not minding the responsibilities weighing on his shoulders. Eventually, Orion’s grades and state of mind improved because of Bosco’s presence, the young man finally discovering his little slice of happiness. Each day, Orion would return home hastily to spend time with Bosco and help his mother, the pair finally have a pleasant home life. As time proceeded, graduation in a few years, Orion becoming uncertain about what he exactly he would do with his life. He looked through careers constantly as he attempted to figure out post-secondary training, however, his memories finally provided his solace. The young man decided he would enroll in RCMP training to save people from the abusive situation himself and his mother were in. When he informed his aunt and mother they hesitantly celebrated, the endless worries about Orion’s well-being occupying their thoughts. Time passed, Orion taking his exercising more seriously and attending RCMP camps in preparation for his career path. When Orion graduated, he worked until he was 18 before applying for RCMP training. Due to the young man’s species, he was expected to work harder to prove himself as an asset to the team. The human boy’s determination and hard working attitude allowed Orion to push himself, refusing to give up on his dream. Even when pushed down, Orion kept working, his steely determination resulting in constant work until successfully graduating from the RCMP training. A quick job was taken until Orion finally became 19 which would allow him to apply to join the forces. When he was accepted, he gave his notice and began working with the RCMP.
