Welcome to The Duality of Man, an original animanga role-play that features numerous supernatural creatures. Unfortunately, these various species have distanced themselves because of the war that occurred thousands of years ago, plaguing some with eyes that only see their dualism. While others meddle themself with their differences, two groups fight, each attempting to eliminate the other in for their definition of worldly peace. These two groups of the Terror Response Syndicate (TRS) and the Assembly of Phantoms (AP). With individuals fighting merely over their differences, it brings uncertainty to the outcome of this war.
We happily accept all role-players as long as they obey the rules and are capable of meeting our word count of 50. This does include those who are unfamiliar with this style of role-playing. The staff of The Duality of Man are willing to happily help those who are new to the role-playing world so they feel comfortable on site. Feel free to message the staff if you need help, they can be found here or in the site Discord and will gladly answer questions alongside calm concerns. If you have any suggestions we would love to hear them; guests may use the support board as a suggestion area as well. Should you decide to join, may I say welcome to the site and we all hope you enjoy your time here.
Yours Truely,
The Staff

Summer 2024
Heat has broken through into a glorious summer. The snow has entirely dried through the spring, leaving to the brilliance of the warmer months. Terror activity has risen as people are brought out of their homes, leaving the TRS in a position of consistent work. Each are attempting to maintain victory in the endless struggle for power.
Since the wonderful members of TDOM enjoy the site enough to play around on it, this thread is to assist with the site's tidying! Functionality is important and we want to make the site functional even if its activity will be minimal at best!
Jessie blinked as the poor thing hit the floor. "Tik-" she was tackled by a rainbow colored blur of fluff and scales. Fae Dragons were wild, untamable creatures, the size of a large, with the strength of a horse. and one of them just rammed into her chest like a bullet train. Downside of being a giant beacon of magical energy. Upside, most of the creatures were friendly.
"Hello little one, could you give my friend a ride? If you do, i will let you bask all you like for the day." the Fae dragon trilled an agreement, already shining brighter as it was exposed to the vast energy of the earth radiating from Jessie.
"Can you climb up? This little one will carry you."
Jessie smiled. Ok, so she was right, plant girl with weird shrubs growing out of her body, didnt eat meat, presumably. But she wondered if maybe Wolma understood the bandage card was meant to relay a need for medical care...those were not plant coverings...the plants WERE the limbs. Amazing. Some Fae species were said to be able to grow plants that took the place of limbs, but a human? Not that Jessie knew of.
"Come, We can get food and i have a friend who can look at your arm and leg." It might have translated a little rough, but the intent was clear. Besides, Doc Avery would have a better idea of what was going on. Faekin were good with these kinds of things.
Wolma. A name, for sure. The sound of damaged vocal cords was obvious. Although she was an Art Student, she also studied medicine, after, as a witch, she needed at least a basic knowledge of medicinal practices. She paused and dug into her bag, pulling out some spare index cards and pen before noting the book was still upside down. She can't read? Damn it.
Jessie blinked then grinned. She began sketching and quickly had several index flash cards, with pictures, that words under them. A chicken tender, below which was a chicken, with the word 'Chicken' written under it. An apple, with the word under it. A fish, and head of lettuce with other greens, with the word 'salad' under it, as well as a card that showed Wolma, in a striking resemblance, with a bandage on her human arm, and another with no bandage.
"Use these if you want. It will help." she continued in German.
Jessie was looking into new sculpting designs, as well magical focuses. As time passed, she had slowly learned that channeling her magic through another object, designed for the purpose, she could actually utilize the magic she had, without burning herself up. Today she had Sebastian and Tiki, her two favorite False Golems.
Sebastian had the appearance of a dog crossed with a crab, with a large bowl in his back that allowed him to be used to carry items, such as books. His 8 legs scuttled, while his forelimbs, which had three very dexterous fingers and a thumb, allowed him to conduct simple tasks such as cleaning. His body was made from glazed terracotta, etched and painted with designs from Southern Italy.
Tiki was forged from Ironwood, a rare wood that acted like metal when heated. He was little more than a cauldron with legs, with a self contained fire pit that allowed potions to be brewed within his body, while he moved about. The side of the caldron had four faces cast into it, each with a different expression, Joy, Sorrow, Anger, Fear. He had been an art project, and not originally intended for Golem Use. But she had fallen in love with his design.
She turned a corner...and spotted a plant...girl? The growling belly revealed it was at least, mostly human.
"Hullo?" Recognition the small German words being muttered, she switched to German, which was not her best language, but she could speak it conversationally.
Jessie didnt really have time to be angry with him, but then again, that stung!
"Yes, and my first instructor in magical arts was blinded by a normie who thought she would bring some kind of plague. Normies are the ones attacking me, planning to sell me off to the highest bidder! you dont see me claiming all Normies and gifted are monsters, do you?"
She looked into the smoke and muttering under her breath (not a spell, just general complaining) began to feed her magic into the very pavement under the men, increasing its temperature and making it soft. It did not take long for them begin shouting, and for the gun fire to stop as they retreated out of her area of effect.
"We dont have much time, if you want to kill me, feel fre, you wont be the first to try it, you might be the last, but you might not. Just keep in mind, that Faeries happen to like me, and may not enjoy your actions. I'm sorry you got cursed by a witch, but not all witches are the same. Just like all Gifted and normies are unique people. Besides, my magic is Earth Based, curses dont work so great for me, even when i have times when i wish i could do it, i still cant. Earth is Healing Magic, Life Magic."
Jessie looked at the one who saved her, he was...broody looking. When he made the comment about being cursed she flinched, because she often felt that way herself. She was about to respond when the two men chasing her began shouting, calling for reinforcements.
She knew what this was. It had been on the news just the other day. People with strong magical abilities and gifts were being kidnapped and sold at auction. Even if she ran now, even if she got away, they would come back, and they might take this guy just for getting in their way. She couldnt let them do that.
"We...We have to stop them. We cant just run away." She got to her feet, unsteady at first, as fear vibrated through her blood. She wasnt very good at controlling her magic, but she was good at making charms. And Pseudo Golems.
She clamped her hand down on a stone lion garden statue that someone had placed beside a back door. It wasnt very large, barely bigger than a large house cat or fox, but it had teeth. She willed it to life, with a single order. keep her and the man who was protecting her safe.
With a sound like someone walking in gravel, the stone lion came to 'life'. It made no sound, even though it opened its jaws to roar.
"We have to lead them somewhere. Somewhere we get help, or somewhere we can trap them. And whoever is coming to help."
Jessie had been on break. Her boss had suggested she go someplace quiet, so she had. It wasn't a hard choice to make, after all, once again the Faeries were causing trouble, and since most people couldnt really see them (not that they were invisible they just used magic to hide themselves), it looked like SHE was the source of the trouble.
She sipped her tea from the thermos while waiting for the small dragonfly winged people to get their fill of her magical energies. It wasnt until the Faeries suddenly streaked away in terror that she realized someone was behind her. she turned and started to scream as two large men lunged for her.
If not for the bravery of a small salamander launching itself at the face of the larger of the two men and bursting into flame, she would have been grabbed before she had any chance to escape.
She turned and ran, running head long into the streets, desperately trying to escape. The two men were not far behind, and she knew she couldnt outrun them. Her body was weak due to her magic, and she never really RAN anywhere. she heard the sound of singing, which meant a person, which meant help. She turned towards the sound, spotting a young man a less than 50 feet away from her.
She opened her mouth to call out for his help, but was tackled from behind. Her cry was turned into a full blown exhale, the breath leaving her chest. Thankfully however, a flock of crows began to shriek at the disturbance, likely instigated by the Faeries.
Jessie took the seat, glancing around at the flowers. When asked about what tea she would like she paused only a moment to consider.
"Do you have any black tea with Teddy Bear Mint?"
A large Salamander crawled from under a shelf and climbed up her leg onto her shoulder. It nuzzled her gently and settled in. This was normal for Jessie, in wasn't unusual for her to wake up covered in magical creatures.
She stroked the Salamander's chin, smiling softly. Around her the flowers seemed to respond to the power emanating from her, perking, turning more vibrant slowly.
Jessie nodded at the mention of tea, and when asked, followed along willingly to the special area.
The red headed girl glanced about at the various flowers and stopped to look at one in particular.
"Where did you get this? I'm pretty sure this Silver Dragon Lotus, but ive never seen one in person before..."
The tall silver stalked flower was one of those that only sprouted from a seed in areas of high magic concentration, leyline intersections, the graves of ancient magical beings, places like that. Once sprouted, growing, and then flowering the plant was easily done, even if transplanted.
Silver Dragon Lotuses were not truly a lotus, they were named after the location of the first one ever seen, the Village of Lotuses in China. They were actually a member of the same family that produced Nightshade and Wolfsbane, but was not poisonous.
"The pixies were causing trouble. They like to warm up, or charge, or whatever it is by being near me, but its too cold outside for them to do that, and i...i find it relaxing to be near flowers and plants. I was hoping to just quietly...sit in a corner...and take a few minutes to...um let them do their thing so i can go back to work without trouble?"
With each pause she became more and more unsure sounding, her voice getting quieter. Now that she had shown off her new found gift of making golems, her normal social anxiety was beginning to kick in.
One of the pixies, who was a regular visitor to the girl zipped up in front of the fallen angel.
"Jessie is very shy, but she helps us restore our energy. We didnt mean much with the pranks, but it was cold and we needed her to go some place warm. She wont cause any trouble. The plants here are soaking up her magic. It helps to prevent issues like explosions. Shes much better off putting her magic into solid things."
"Um, I started working at Little Big Rock Cafe, i have to pay back the medical costs for my potions tutor. I put too much power into a warming potion and it...exploded..."
She was actually tremendously embarrassed by this, because it made her useless. Potions were one of the most useful of magics.
She brightened for a moment, there was ONE thing she could do, that others couldn't! Fumbling in her bag she pulled out a small carved wooden cat, with meticulous detail, you could almost see every individual hair.
"Watch this."
She closed her eyes and willed the raw energy into the wood, pushing her will for the wood to move into it. With a sound like creaking floorboards, in miniature, the cat uncurled, stretched, and sat up, looking about.
"I gave it the order to act like a cat...i can only issue one order to something this small. And the spell doesnt last long. I bet if i could do some research on Golems, i could make a simple golem that lasts a long time, but the longest i've been able to do so far was a day, with a stone cat this size."
Jessie wasnt even phased by the bandages, she had seen much stranger things. When you lived your life, acting as a beacon to all things mystical and mythical, you saw things.
"I'm sorry, i just need a soothing place to sit while these, er, friends of mine recharge a bit. It...it would be good for the flowers too, I sort of radiate Earth Magic, its the best fertilizer, and can soothe most ailments, for plants and other animals alike."
Indeed her magic, while too potent for use in things like potions (that had been a disaster, the tutor had nearly lost her face when what was supposed to be a simple blood warming potion to fend of hypothermia had exploded into a boiling searing gel) just being near her was soothing for most creatures.
She was supposed to find a Charms Tutor at some point, but her parents were unwilling to risk it, until they found someone who was...capable of protecting themselves.
"I'm Jessibelle, but you can call me Jessie, or Jess if you like. I, um, work at the cafe, across the plaza, Little Big Rock."
She offered her hand, for a handshake. It was certainly possible her energy, being Earth based, and not light or darkness based, would heal any minor health issues the Fallen Angel had. Of course, Jessie could tell the lady wasnt human, but she wasnt 100% sure what she actually was.
Jessie was not in a good mood. She had been trying very hard to not cause any trouble at the Cafe, but then these little sprites, or pixies, or whatever they were decided to come and pester her. They were of course full of mischief, and caused her no small difficulty as they plied for her attention. Tipping over tea and coffee mugs, and flipping skirts of all things.
It didn't help that the normal humans who were targeted couldn't really see the creatures due to their glamour spells. Her boss, who was nice enough told her to take a break and see about dispersing the little crowd of magical creatures that had descended upon her.
So she set out to find a place for the little creatures to be able to absorb the power that leaked out of her like some kind of ambrosia leaked out of a tree. And the little shop, Forget Me Not, seemed a good option.
As she entered a small group of pixies flew into her hair, relishing in the warm glow of her power.
With vibrant 'robin's breast red' hair, and startlingly green eyes Jessie is a sight to behold. More so if you have the ability to see magic, as she literally shines with it, to those with the Sight.
She normally wears comfortable clothes, unless shes working, when she wears the uniform required of Little Big Rock Cafe. A knee length navy blue skirt, with matching over jacket, white under shirt, and dark blue, but not as dark, stockings with black shoes.
NEGATIVE - Fearful - Impulsive - Shy - depressed - Obsessed with her faults/blind to her good points
abilities
Gifted:
Blessing of the Earth: This double edged sword of a gift allows Jessie to channel magic directly from the Earth, making her a potentially powerful magic user. However, it also makes her a giant bug light beacon to magical beings, including Terrors, but also dragons, pixies, fairies, and other magical beings will find themselves drawn to her, however the more human the creature is, the more resistant it is to the effect.
Blessing of the Earth allows Jessie to channel massive amounts of energy, however it affects her body, the more she runs through her body without a break the more damage it causes. In Theory, she could imbue an entire battle ship with charms, but the strain of the magic would like kill her before she was even close to finished.
Jessie's power is immense, but is greatly limited by her physical body's limits. She is a 40watt lightbulb hooked up to a 10,000 watt power source, with only a few switches between her and a bright, flashy, messy death as the magic causes her body to simply vaporize.
Due to the strength of her magic, Jessie cannot brew potions, or cast regular spells, as the potential power within her makes them too powerful, healing potions would be so potent that they would cause harm.
One interesting thing is, she can bring sculptures to life by infusing them with charm magic. They are not 'alive' in the same sense as a proper Golem, however are more like robots made of wood, clay, or stone. For small Golems, the size of a house cat or smaller, the charm lasts 24 hours, anything larger for 12 hours or less, as they get larger.
If she does not renew the life giving charm before the golem 'shuts down' the material will crumble and the golem will be unable to be brought back to life.
backstory
Jessie's family has historically always been human, with no gifts or magic, however when they found that Jessie was 'blessed' with her powerful magical potential, they were overjoyed. This joy did not last long, as soon after Jessie's power started manifesting, their home was destroyed over and over by errant magical beings, seeking the large source of energy.
Recently Jessie has started working at a small Cafe, the Little Big Rock Cafe, to earn money for classes in painting and sculpting, a passion of hers.
misc
Jessie can be a very quiet person, you may forget she is there. She is also very much a lover of nature and indeed with her power, lower level magical creatures will often seek her out like a cat seeks a spot of sunlight.
