Welcome to The Duality of Man, an original animanga role-play that features numerous supernatural creatures. Unfortunately, these various species have distanced themselves because of the war that occurred thousands of years ago, plaguing some with eyes that only see their dualism. While others meddle themself with their differences, two groups fight, each attempting to eliminate the other in for their definition of worldly peace. These two groups of the Terror Response Syndicate (TRS) and the Assembly of Phantoms (AP). With individuals fighting merely over their differences, it brings uncertainty to the outcome of this war.
We happily accept all role-players as long as they obey the rules and are capable of meeting our word count of 50. This does include those who are unfamiliar with this style of role-playing. The staff of The Duality of Man are willing to happily help those who are new to the role-playing world so they feel comfortable on site. Feel free to message the staff if you need help, they can be found here or in the site Discord and will gladly answer questions alongside calm concerns. Summer 2022
Heat has broken through into a glorious summer. The snow has entirely dried through the spring, leaving to the brilliance of the warmer months. Terror activity has risen as people are brought out of their homes, leaving the TRS in a position of consistent work. Each are attempting to maintain victory in the endless struggle for power.
With April, an activity check has arrived for members to do! Please post on the AC and tag all your accounts, including WIPs and OOC accounts. Failure to post on this AC will result in your accounts being marked inactive or deleted. Please note, due to a late start, the due date for this check has been adjusted for one time and one time only.
After leaving her bedroom, Kaitlynn began hastily walking in the direction of the spare room where Sonya was changing. While the brunette was completely infatuated by her close friend, she preferred avoiding the woman's venomous tongue while she changed. Already, the angel could imagine the pain that could be inflicted by a gauntlet hitting her at full speed; which was a pain best avoided. With ease, Kaitlynn weaved through the living room, entering a hallway and shortly discovering the door her friend was behind. There was hesitation as the brunette's hand hovered over the doorknob, wondering if perhaps she should give Sonya more time, although, the distressed yelling and angry swearing answered the angel's ponder. It was becoming obvious that her crush was struggling with something, resulting in a quiet giggle escaping Kaitlynn's lips.
Slowly, the angel twisted the doorknob and eased the door open, gradually revealing the room as she slowly entered. A smirk crossed her lips as she witnessed Sonya fiddling with the cuffs, attempting to get them proper. It was oddly amusing watching her crush struggle to adjust the cuffs; partially because Kaitlynn was hoping the familiar would release her fury in them. A gentle sigh left the angel's lips as she ventured further into the room, listening to the exotic woman continue her complaints about the fancy necessities added to the uniform. Fortunately, the brunette remained skillful in doing the mandatory adjust considering her childhood was full of frivolous high society learning experiences; she still remembered the numerous types of forks! When Sonya grabbed one of her metallic gauntlets and threw it across the room, Kaitlynn preemptively flinched. The gauntlet met the floor, rattling until it stilled.
"Well, I think the higher ups will complain if you don't wear it," Kaitlynn responded. "Besides, it isn't that bad, Sonya."
There was a cheerful tone to Kaitlynn's voice while she walked across the room, retrieving the gauntlet from the floor. A few quick hand movements were made to dust it off, the angel shortly returning to Sonya. The gauntlet was returned to its position while the angel smiled at her crush. Despite the preparations being unfinished, the exotic woman already appeared ravishing inside the uniform; then again, Sonya always appeared beautiful. There was divine exotic essence that the familiar possessed, making it difficult for Kaitlynn to glance away whenever she entered the room. It left the angelic sergeant determined to make flirtatious remarks and genuine compliments in an attempt to earn Sonya's affection, although, they were oftentimes met with anger. While the irritable attitude was fierce, Kaitlynn found it impossible to stay quiet about her infatuation for Sonya; her crush was irresistible. The angel inched closer to her crush, hands slowly reaching out, hoping her friend would allow her to assist.
"Here, let me do it," she said with a grin. "I can have it done in two seconds and then you and cuffs won't have to go to war."
There were tones of playful teasing while Kaitlynn spoke to her friends, a gentle laugh leaving her lips while her imagination played with the thought of Sonya actually warring against cuffs. While the thought remained silly, the angel always found her playful side revealing itself in her familiar's presence.
Work had progressed slowly for Kaitlynn, creating an overall boring day. Terror reports remained limited to minor altercations involving mostly pipsqueaks, low-risk mutants and the occasion troublemaker. There was little that caught the angel's attention as she proceeded with the small amount of paperwork she acquired from being a TRS sergeant. She rarely allowed for the pile to build considering her fortune in the paperwork being split between herself and Sonya. The pen scrawling her signature across numerous sheets of paper alongside the tedious effort being taken towards ordering new equipment for the unit. It left the angel sighing in boredom and begging for her to end so she could escape the hell that was a slow day at work. The only event of the day had been when Decker had stopped into headquarters to speak with her, resulting in a decision to head to the bar after work.
Time progressed gradually until freedom was granted, Kaitlynn hastily leaving the office and changing into a pair of street clothes. The TRS uniform was left in her locker, the young woman only retrieving her purse before leaving headquarters and heading in the direction of the business district. The angel left in a white t-shirt and a pair of pale skinny jeans that clung to her frame. The warmth of the summer air removed any necessity of requiring a sweater to enjoy the outdoors; the occasional cloud being the only relief for the heat. Instead of enjoying the atmosphere of the Golden Crown, she had been invited to a smaller establishment within the business district. The angel was not going to complain, especially considering she desired some time enjoying drinks with a friend. She continued hastily down the streets, her purple eyes scanning the buildings until finally landing on the chosen establishment.
The angel quickly weaved through the few individuals on the sidewalk, reaching the front door of the bar. The wooden door was pushed open, the bell ringing above her, announcing her arrival. The bar itself possessed an L shape with a heavy smell of musk greeting her. A pool table alongside a dartboard appeared to be some of the forms of entertainment within the establishment. Some patrons sat at tables that marked the left while the right held a counter surrounded with stools. Her purple eyes scanned the establishment, noticing Decker occupying one of the bar stools. With a smile on her face, she hurried over to her friend and took the stool next to him.
"What a good boy, waiting for me," she teased. "Anyways, sorry for the wait."
It was a reference towards Decker's species and ultimately designed to be a harmless remark. Once the bartender provided her with some attention, she ordered a rum and coke which was shortly provided. The dark brown liquid fizzed within the glass, the ice floating silently above as they settled. A small sip the taken, the angel enjoying the flavour as she mentally prepared for a night of drinking.
The day was progressing closer to the evening hours, the sun still lingering in the beautiful blue sky, but gradually falling. During the afternoon, the extensive graduation ceremony for the numerous graduates of Lorsette had occurred, mentors and students being shown respect for their strenuous efforts. As a sergeant of the second unit, Kaitlynn had attended the TRS graduation ceremony with a desire to view the new faces joining in the ranks of her unit. She noted a majority, especially the more prestigious who gained honours for their time spent training. While some had already been named full-fledged hunters, their day of celebration among the TRS remained halted until the proper day of celebration. Some still accompanied their friends for drinks prior to the true occasion, simply using it as an excuse to attend multiple parties because of their educational success.
The mixture of youthful and older faces remained a curiosity with names requiring learning at a later date. After the main ceremony, Kaitlynn had returned home while forcing some adequate company to join her. Despite the fierce anger and proneness to yelling, the angel still attempted to drag her closest friend and crush Sonya back to her home. They had been required to attend the celebration within city hall, acting as formal guards to occasion instead of welcomed guests. Ultimately, the necessity to dress formally remained despite the possibility of them being placed in a fighting situation. It called for freshly cleaned uniforms that lacked stains from the ash substance that terrors deteriorated into and polished red stars. Immediately after returning from the ceremony, the angel had set to work making certain Sonya would look incredible for the celebration, although, Kaitlynn believed that her familiar already maintained an exotic beauty.
The unique skin tone accompanied by her exotic eyes lured the brunette towards her familiar in a more intimate manner. It kept her returning despite the fiery refusals and angry outbursts that would be launched towards her. Slowly, the angel walked around her bedroom, the mirror beside her bed being used while she fussed with her uniform. The cuffs were adjusted alongside the collar to display a more professional appearance. The fiddling with her cuffs remained the most crucial given the gauntlets that covered her hands, working as channels for her electricity, allowing for intense build-up before release. Once satisfied, her purple eyes glanced towards the pair of metal gauntlets that were stationed on the bed. The polishing the received the day prior allowed them to shine immensely, but they would never appear new from up close. The various scratches and indents from numerous altercations with terrors maintained their ancient look.
Another scan was taken for possible errors in the mechanisms, Kaitlynn moving away once pleased. Slowly, she moved towards the smaller mirror on the tiny vanity. The brush was picked up, the female angel running it through her long hair, making certain all strands remained on the left side before quickly providing it with hairspray to maintain firmness. A second glance was given towards her makeup, the angel accomplishing the necessary touch-ups until achieving a definition of perfection within her mind. Since the patrol was going to be spent with Sonya, the young woman kept determination to properly maintain her appearance to provide a good impression. Even if her flirtatious remarks would only be met with bitterness, she could at least attempt for some secondary persuasion in the appearance department. She was determined to earn the affections of her crush, even if it would require an extensive amount of time.
The fixation remained on Sonya as Kaitlynn attempted to release herself from the shackles of her arranged marriage. There would be no returning to that damnation of being stuck with an inadequate man; happiness in that marriage would have crumbled instantly. Once she completed the meticulous alterations to her appearance, the angel turned away from the mirror with intentions to check on her friend.
With crossed arms, Kaitlynn silently listened to the apprentice has he gave an explanation towards the immense artillery and protection he wore for a meager introduction session. Naturally, the wariness could be comprehended, but the man dressed as though the battlefield was right around the corner. A mere human could easily obtain injuries, however, the sergeant was not planning to introduce him to the abilities section of fighting; although, that may change considering how overly prepared he appeared. The professional voice was clear, possessing an impressive edge considering a portion of apprentices would get anxious around superiors. During the entirety of it, the angel stood tall, maintaining an air of confidence and authority in her hard gaze towards James. Another gently sigh graced her lips as she shrugged off her TRS coat before knelling down wordless to grab the gauntlets.
"I see, then perhaps you would prefer an advanced session? I was merely going to give some basic sparing alongside information about how best to handle terrors, but you seem keen on going all out with equipment," Kaitlynn said. "Considering we are at war I suppose that means I have permission to go all out? I usually give apprentices a little more mercy, but since you are so prepared I might as well finish my own preparations."
Carefully, the gauntlets were unwrapped, freeing them from the white fabric. Without a proper answer, the angel began securing them to her hands, noises ringing as the various mechanisms were fitted around her hands. She continued to complete her preparations, the gauntlets secured to her hands and ready for combat. Afterwards, her gaze returned to her apprentice as she nodded her head in acknowledgement. A few moments of thought were taken, the sergeant prepping a warm-up in her head to give to her apprentice. Her arms were crossed again, the cold metal gauntlets resting on bare skin, but she did not appear bothered.
"C'mon soldier boy, we are starting with some target practice, I want to see your sharpshooting at work," Kaitlynn began. "Afterwards, we can either move onto the basics, or I can pound you into the dust, really, it is up to you."
A lip-tight smile touched the angel's lips as she turned away from her apprentice to fetch the equipment required for the training session while her thoughts lingered on possible training methods while her walk remained purposefully slow. Should her apprentice desire to go headlong into intense sparring, Kaitlynn would joyfully have at it; she always enjoyed roughhousing after all. It was her primary purpose for assembling the gauntlets around her hands prior to true combat. There was also the enjoyable possibility of randomly throwing something difficult at her apprentice since this session appeared to be a possible no mercy mode.
Hunched over the notebook, Kaitlynn began reading the basics about her apprentice with her focus on planning some possible training routes. The various bullet points gave her insight to the bare bone basics, one of the points causing her eyes to widen. The sergeant found herself reading over the bullet several times over to make certain her eyes were not deceiving her. Her apprentice was human and a magic-less, which was a rarity in the Terror Response Syndicate from what she knew. Humans, especially ones lacking magic, commonly stuck to less dangerous jobs like medical, scouting or the various other miscellaneous jobs within the TRS. Magic lacking humans usually struggled in fights against terrors due to the fact they did not have abilities or special qualities to protect them. A glimmer of admiration shone in Kaitlynn's eyes, this man was definitely the brave sort.
For a few moments, the angel leaned back and pondered a plan of how to kick of training. Powers would be off the table for this first session, or at least the first few hours since Kaitlynn did not want to instantly break the poor fellow. Her gaze flitted back towards the file as she wondered why a human would desire hunter training. She was in position to oppose or refuse, and she would not if she did have the possibility, however, did this man know what he was getting into? Did he perhaps plan to start training now and later get bitten by a vampire or scratched by a lycanthrope? That would be a sensible presumption in her mind. After some time, the door opened and Kaitlynn glanced over, a surprised look soon marking her expression as she gazed upon a man who looked prepared for war.
Only a few seconds later did the angel glance over at the provided picture of her apprentice before her eyes flitted back towards the newcomer in disbelief. That was her apprentice, fully prepared for an entire beating instead of some casual training in the gym. Had he not received the memo about this merely being an orientation session like a majority of first sessions? The sergeant glanced back towards the folder and quickly looked over a few more points; she was not concerned that she had not finished reading, but rather she was wondering why James was adorned with so much weaponry. When he stationed himself in front of her, giving a professional introduction, Kaitlynn's gaze returned to her new apprentice. The firm stance, large amounts of weaponry, he seemed like the soldier type. The angel gently closed the file before setting it down beside her, rising once it was safely stationed on the bench.
"I can see that," Kaitlynn responded, looking over her apprentice. "Um, you realize that when I meant casual training that I meant basic orientation? What do you expect, for me to suddenly pick you up and throw you into a wall? You look like you're here to fight a war."
A sigh escaped the brunette's mouth, she had a suspicion that this training session alongside the future ones were going to be interesting. Silently, the angel was hoping that she could loosen up the serious attitude her apprentice seemed to have all based on an initial meeting. For a few more moments her purple eyes looked over the various weapons that covered the man's body, the amount he had obtained was somewhat impressive.
"Anyways, tell me about what you can do. I'm guessing by all the guns that you are a sharpshooter or something like that." Kaitlynn guessed well she slowly walked around her apprentice.
Perhaps quick orientation could be skipped considering the volume of weaponry the man held, not mention based on analysis he appeared to be a fighter. However, due to his species, Kaitlynn was skeptical about dropping him into deep water without at least getting an idea of his basic skill level. Training somebody who lacked powers was going to require care, especially consider the sergeant would be required to build on the skills she could teach alongside the ones the man possessed already.
As they continued the patrol, Kaitlynn's purple eyes continued surveying the area. There was an alertness in her composure, her back straight and gaze flitting towards the various hiding places for terrors, including the crowd. Disguisers were able to infiltrate easily considering their capabilities with hiding in plain sight. A moment was taken to check on her ally, who seemed to be plenty capable to keeping pace; that was something the sergeant enjoyed seeing. It would be rather unfortunate to possess an ally who could not even keep pace. Although the angel failed to notice the joke's sign, she still found a gentle chuckle escaping her mouth at the mentioning of not blessing Bea. A tiny smile pulled the corners of the sergeant's lips up at what the demon had stated.
"I will make certain not to. If it makes you feel better, I'm not that good at blessing anyways. They tire me out too quickly, so I don't have any plans on using them." She responded, putting reassurance into her voice while she spoke.
As Bea began speaking, mentioning her various capabilities, the angel listened attentively to what the demon had to say. Each word was analyzed, Kaitlynn already thinking of the best way she could work up with close-range partner. It was sensible that a person who could endure injury would work fighting close up to the threat. Her focused remained on the concept, the sergeant failing to notice the glance that her fellow TRS agent gave her. For a few moments, the brunette's thoughts remained on strategy while her eyes continued sweeping. Kaitlynn's arms remained at her sides, swaying back and forth while she continued marching at her steady pace. Her attention only returned to Bea upon hearing the range based question that her ally asked. It caused Kaitlynn to close and open her gauntlet covered hands at the thought; they were, in a way, her primary weapons after all.
"Yes, but mostly mid-range. Keep in mind, I can work at further and closer distances if required. I use my electricity manipulation the most. I find it works better with a little distance, but not enough to allow the bolts to stray." There was a moment of hesitation until the angel realized she had yet to mention something. "Speaking of which, if we get into a struggle, don't touch my hands. My gauntlets are designed to hold electricity, almost like charging up a battery. Which means touching them can give a nasty shock, in battle that is."
There had been a few unfortunate rookies who had attempted to pull her out of the way of something only to discover the horrible sensation of being directly shocked by the brunette's battle gauntlets. The accidental victims to her gauntlets always made full recoveries, although, it was after a long amount of time painfully healing. As they continued towards the treeline, Kaitlynn glanced behind her when her partner did not offer a verbal answer, finding herself pleased to see Bea following. Once assured that she was not alone near the shadows, her purple eyes glanced back towards the shadow infested forest. The sergeant's eyes narrowed as he continued searching, ignoring the noises of feet crunching on snow, idle chatter and various other sounds of enjoyment to focus on the forest. For a moment, the angel stiffened when she heard a twig snap, stopping for a moment to scan the area she believed the sound diverged from. It could be a simple forest animal, but there was always that chance of something more villainous lurking.
The angel's eyes continued to search for the change room sign while she remained in the store. For a few moments, the woman wandered while she searched, passing fellow shop goers and employees. Once her purple eyes noticed the sign to the changing rooms, a broad smile tugged at the corners of her lips while she made her way towards it. Alas, a moment later she froze at the sound of loud bangs echoing into the store from the streets. The sergeant turned on her heels and looked towards the store door as she heard screams and watched people filter into the store. An instant later, Kaitlynn slipped off her purse and coat and handed it to somebody who appeared to be the stores manager and asked her to hide it beneath the desk. Before the manager could respond, the brunette was already running towards the store's exit, shouldering through the crowds.
The tall woman left the store in a dark grey sweater, being cautious once she arrived on the panic-filled streets. She moved in a stealthy manner, her purple eyes shortly finding the gunman who continued to fire shots into the crowd. She ducked into a shadow covered alleyway, silently watching from the position a few moments longer; she needed to analyze the situation. Some people laid motionless on the streets, blood pooling beneath their bodies. The sight caused the angel's eyes to narrow, this was despicable. Quietly, she rose from her and walked out from the alleyway, her senses heightened as she knew it would be her abilities versus the man's gun.
"Hey! Stop now and I won't be forced to hurt you, and trust me, bud, you don't want that," Kaitlynn began.
She stood out in the open, hands placed on her hips and eyes filled with fury over the casualties of helpless innocents. The gunman turned towards her, seeming to not be impressed by the person who was brave enough to oppose him. Fearlessly, the angel watched as he lined up the glock and prepared to fire. Patiently, the sergeant waited and once the man squeezed the trigger white patches of condensed light formed in a shield in front of her. The bang was followed with the bullets slamming into the shield, the woman's light manipulation protecting her from harm. A crackling sound could be heard near Kaitlynn as she began to activate her electricity manipulation to prepare for the fight ahead. There was a chance she could accomplish shocking him in an unconscious state; or at least distract him until the RCMP arrived. Either way, the angel was willing to allow herself to be the mans target in order to distract him from the bystanders. Besides, she had fought terrors which she found a lot more frightening than a man holding a gun. At least he could not rip into her greatest fears in an attempt to throw her off focus.
A smile fancied the face of Sergeant Kaitlynn Harris as she quietly strolled through the training center and towards the gymnasium. She had a significant duty to attend to, which was to train an apprentice that had been graciously given to her. It was always viewed as an honor to teach some young one how to fight or teach an old dog some new tricks. Naturally, that would have to wait until the angel learned a few things about her newest apprentice and was able to give them an evaluation of skill level. It was always the best way to determine a proper manner of teaching an individual new to the world of hunting. Thus, the young woman walked with her TRS jacket hanging over her shoulder, front open to reveal the white shirt she commonly used when she exercised.
Instead of the regular TRS uniform pants, she wore a pair of loose fitting black sweats. She had the usual boots that came with the uniform, finding them comfy for these sorts of situations. Unlike a majority of days, Kaitlynn's face lacked the modifications made with meticulous makeup keeping; sweat only made the effort useless after all. Tucked beneath her left arm was a small, beige folder that contained some information about her newest apprentice which she unfortunately had not gotten around to reading the provided information. As it currently stood, she only was aware that the student's name was James Morrison, which was something that was always provided. Names were necessary to keep things running smoothly after all. Meanwhile a black bag dangled from her right hand, gently swaying with the angel's log strides. Inside was her metal gauntlets, specially designed and carefully wrapped in various pieces of fabric to make certain they remained safe.
Once she reached the gymnasium, the sergeant shouldered the door open, her purple eyes scanning the area. The survey brought a satisfied smile onto Kaitlynn's lips; there were a mentoring and apprentice duo doing some menial self-defense training. Based upon the current appearance of both people, they were nearing the end of their training session. With that, the sergeant quietly slipped through the double doors and made her way towards a small bench far from the practicing pair. She settled herself on the bench, finding the hard metal surface a little uncomfortable. A few seconds were spent shifting until the sergeant found herself feeling a little more comfortable; or at least as comfortable as possible on the bench. The bag was carefully placed on the floor beside her while the beige folder got stationed on her lap.
Her hand gently took the front page, opening the folder to reveal the stark white papers hidden inside. Before the sergeant instigated reading the basic information given to her, she grabbed her phone and checked the time. As planned, the angel had arrived early in order to quickly read the small and simple tidbits provided to her. It was nothing significant, mostly basics about the apprentice and anything the databases could dig up that could be seen as a behavioral based concern; they had to keep mentors safe after all. The phone was shortly shoved back into the pocket of her TRS jacket as Kaitlynn hunched over the folder and began silently reading through the information while she awaited the arrival of her apprentice for the simple orientation and basic training.
Today was definitely a day for shopping was Kaitlynn's opinion. The weather smiled upon the earth with the sun sitting at its peak in the sky. There were no fluffy white clouds to block away the heavenly light, which was marvelous. Wind seemed nonexistent today, making the day in general warmer. It was warm enough that the angel decided it was suitable for a walk through the business district; she was not planning on buying anything hefty after all. The brunette knew that a walk would be valuable exercise and considering how harsh the winter chills could become, the opportunity had to be ceased to take a stroll. Thus, Kaitlynn had tugged on a dark purple peacoat and buttoned up the plastic, purple buttons.
As of leg wear, the young woman wore a pair of dark grey yoga pants that led to a pair of black shoes that stopped just above her ankles. Running diagonal across Kaitlynn left shoulder down to her left hip was a black strap that secured her purse. The common cover ups and makeup pieces were worn which consisted of: purple lipstick, some purple eye shadow, eyeliner and various other simply implements were more blended into the woman's face. Her brunette hair that flowed on the right side of her head held the usual purple tinted tips meanwhile the left had a shave holding unique designs. Based on her appearance, anybody would be able to notice the woman's preference for the colour purple. Even as a child, Kaitlynn had always found she loved the colour purple and thus enjoyed incorporating it into her appearance. She walked briskly down the sidewalk, long strides carrying her far while her eyes curiously scanned the business district; catching the signs of stores quickly.
She noted the rather large crowd bustling through the streets as she weaved through the numerous people. Although she was off duty, the angel found herself also surveying the area for possible terrors lurking around the corners. She lacked her gauntlets, but naturally the young brunette knew that she was plenty capable without her specialized weaponry. In an emergency case, Kaitlynn did possess her TRS radio which remained settled in her purse. Everywhere around her, the angel heard the sounds of idle chatter while people gossiped or discussed various topics. She mildly paid mind to the information, only hesitating a moment if it brought up the possibility of being terror related. As she continued walking down the sidewalk, her eyes noticed a small clothing shop and a display window with the most adorable outfits. It resulted in Kaitlynn gently pushing open the door and peering at the many rows of outfits.
The shop itself had colourful walls with various floral designs decorating the open surfaces. Shelves took a majority of the space, most of which held pants and shirts neatly folded up. There were even a few hats that hung lazily from their hooks on a different wall. Many clothing racks littered the open central spaces with hangers carrying the clothing pieces while signs popped out in the middle to inform customers of sales or other information. A lip tight smile drew across the angel's face as she entered the store and began to pass by the racks, her eyes looking for something that particularly popped. Most of the clothing were pieces akin to ones she already wore, which was both a positive and negative sign. The store clearly possessed clothing that she was interested in, but did it have anything new or interesting that would flatter her figure. Eventually, a shirt rack caught her eye and like a majority of shoppers, Kaitlynn began sifting through the clothing in search of something that she would find attractive.
Shortly, it resulted in her pulling a white a blue shirt, the top left shoulder white and fading into a dark blue that held floral patterns. The smile upon the brunette's face broadened as she began to examine the clothing piece, admiring the soft fabric and overall design. For a few more moments, she analyzed the shirt in silence as she debated purchasing the pleasant piece, but of course she would have to try it on first. With that, Kaitlynn turned and began searching with her purple eyes for a sign that indicated where the changing rooms were.
While Kaitlynn interacted with Bea, she worked to rummage the information about demons that she knew; the stuff that was not rumored based. Luckily, unlike vampires, demons were not nearly as light sensitive which meant the angel had open access to use her light manipulation should they end up in a scuffle. Unfortunately though, the young woman knew little about demons other than small trivial things and the possible truths to be picked out of rumors based around their abilities. The partnership required knowledge of each team's skills, which meant that Kaitlynn would be required to question Bea for facts she should know. For a moment, the brunette pursed her lips in a moment of thought until it transformed into a grin.
"Bea, should we end up in combat it may be good to tell me how you excel in battle. Go into detail if you must, but I would appreciate knowing your abilities since I am familiarized with demons myself. Afterwards, you may inquire me on information you may need to learn about me." The sergeant suggested in a friendly manner, emphasizing it with the broadening of her smile.
As the first name protocol was initiated, it seemed to grow strange to a degree. The manner of which Bea spoke her name was almost as though she was familiarized with it. Did demons prefer professionalism? Perhaps using the formal army titles simply allowed them to feel more comfortable, like part of a team. It was a rather presumptuous concept, but being clueless about the species who was seen as her opposite made it incredibly difficult. Either way, her fellow hunter agreed to the concept which certainly meant she was unperturbed by the idea, right? An inaudible sigh escaped Kaitlynn's lips, this was more difficult than she initially thought. When they entered the crowd was definitely an oddity for the angel since everybody seemed keen on keeping a wide radius around them- no, around Bea. If the sergeant had walked through with her crisp white wings they would have no even batted an eye, or perhaps even looked to her with awe. As they marched, the white wings on the angel's back began to disappear for the time being. An on-foot mission was easier without having to luge those heavy limbs everywhere after all.
As Bea began speaking about the oddity of nothing being disturbed considering the large population of the event, the angel nodded in agreement. This event seemed like a prime target for Zeredah and her horrendous terrors to attack. The sergeant's purple eyes drifted towards the treeline, squinting in an attempt to see through the dark, but to no avail. Could that be where they were hiding?
"Let's do a quick walk across the treeline then. Those shadows could be hiding something," Kaitlynn suggesting.
This time, her voice held an air of command to it; the kind that was oftentimes considered befitting of a leader figure. There was a strength held within it, alongside a suspicion towards the concept of where the terrors could hide. Without waiting for a proper answer, the angel began to stride towards the trees. There were no intentions to enter the forest itself, merely to skim the outer rim to make certain nothing was hiding within the darkness. A moment was taken to check if Bea was following her, but even if she was paces behind, Kaitlynn still spoke.
"Let me know if you see anything," the sergeant stated.
Should there be a high level terror, they would be required to work together in order to defeat the creature. Naturally, the angel was praying that her suspicions were incorrect since that meant fighting close to the crowd of innocents which was a dangerous procedure.
A majority of first meetings were spent with an attempt for mostly eye contact, but in this case, Kaitlynn's curiosities got the better of her. Those horns the mysterious woman had kept her attention for a few moments. One being broken only furthered the young angel's interest, but she managed to pry her eyes away and focus on the woman's face after a few moments. The concept of meeting a demon was making the angel oddly zealous since she always had desires to meet one herself. All the stares and people avoiding them were ignored by Kaitlynn; if they could not release the past then so be it. Shaking the woman's hand felt no different than anybody else's and she was an individual like anybody else. While the hand shaking occurred, the sergeant managed to hear every little clink of her gauntlet; it always seemed a little louder due to the modifications.
When the woman began to introduce herself, a surprised look crossed the angel's face at the emotion lacking tone the female demon used. It suggested that perhaps she had no desire to be there; perhaps because Kaitlynn was an angel? The sergeant was praying that was not the case. Working together would be difficult if one hated the other after all. Being apart of the hunting division meant being capable of cooperating with your fellow hunters alongside the other divisions. Once the hand shake was finished, Kaitlynn withdrew her hand and gently opened and closed to make certain nothing was out of place within the gauntlet. When she was sure everything was alright, her eyes returned to making eye contact with the demon while she answered her question.
"Excellent, thank-you, Bea," Kaitlynn began. A pause was taken before she offered Bea a smile. "Also, feel free to call me Kaitlynn, I'm not a stickler for formalities."
For a quick moment, Kaitlynn preformed a quick survey of the area, her purple eyes looking over the distant treeline. When her eyes looked over the crowd, the sergeant favoured an annoyed frown; were people really this terrified of demons? It reminded her of her parents in a way and how they would consistently keep away any species associated with Hell like the plague. Her attention returned to Bea when the girl spoke and continued with a few questions. While keeping her focus on the demon's words, Kaitlynn swiftly and cautiously fixed her uniform. Smoothing the wrinkles during the few moments of calm that were granted to her. A lip tight grin crossed her lips while she placed her hands atop her hips.
"Well, aren't we straight to the point? Anyways, nothing to apologize for, Bea," Kaitlynn stated. Then continued with a smile. "Anyways, based on the orders I have received our main duty is the gate alongside the small perimeter around it. We should likely stay as team, easier to fight that way and if we feel the need to check the gate I will just get an aerial view. As for staying out of sight, unnecessary. People avoiding you would actually assist us in passing through the crowd."
With that said, Kaitlynn beckoned with her hand for Bea to follow her as she turned towards the crowd again. Another quick glance of the area was taken, the angel's pace remaining slow to assure a more thorough observation. Nothing seemed out of place, thus she continued while looking over at her demon companion.
"I don't see anything off putting here, what do you think?" Kaitlynn inquired.
It was as though she was speaking to any colleague considering the smooth tone of her voice and the friendliness it possessed. She genuinely desired to become close allies with the mysterious demon since they were both TRS hunters, although, they were in different units. Nonetheless, it seemed like an excellent concept that Kaitlynn was becoming determined to achieve.
Confidence graced Kaitlynn's stride while she walked back towards the meeting place. The initial analysis suggested an easy guard shift, but the angel was not foolish enough to let her guard fall. Deception could be at play since fear eaters could easily be hiding in the shadowy depths of the trees waiting to pounce on unsuspecting citizens. While she walked briskly towards the meeting place, Kaitlynn adjusted her customized gauntlets. The pieces had been given a modification to store the electrical currents she created in order to strengthen them. For a moment, the sergeants eyes strayed upwards to find the crowd displaying odd behavior. It was as though they were attempting to avoid something, but no panic marked their faces. A confused expression entered the brunette's face, her head tilting to the right side slightly. Certainly, there were no terrors unless a disguiser had entered the mix with its unruly odor.
The thought caused Kaitlynn's pace to increase, carrying her towards the crowd quickly. Immediately, the sergeant's purple eyes began scrutinizing the crowd in an attempt to discover the disturbance. Entering the people congested area resulted in her wings pressing closer to her back. That was when her gaze noticed a woman with blonde hair, almost white, and features that were clearly belonging to demons; a tail and a pair of horns (one of which was broken). A TRS uniform embraced her body, marking her as a comrade in arms and her closeness towards the guard post made it obvious to the angel that this was her partner. For a merely a second, Kaitlynn hesitated. It was rare that she obtained the opportunity to work with species that belonged to Hell, or Volos' children as some stated. Naturally, the rumors about them being horrible creatures had touched her ears, but one could never be certain.
There were plenty of angels who were horrible, only maintaining their crisp white wings due to their own moral beliefs. Who was to say that demons could not be kind if angels could be evil? A glance was taken towards the bright red star on the right side of her chest; she was a sergeant and she had to treat people equally. With that, Kaitlynn's straightened her posture as she walked closer to her demon comrade with thoughts of a perfect introduction running through her head. A small smile came across the angel's lips, she wanted to keep a pleasant air around her. Once she drew close enough to the female demon, who was presumably her guarding partner, Kaitlynn offered her hand. It was something that the brunette preferred avoiding since her gauntlet always seemed a bit clunky due to the adjustments.
"Hey, I guess we're working together today, eh?" Kaitlynn began smoothly. "Name's Kaitlynn Harris. I'm the sergeant of unit 2. Now speak up, it will be easier to work together if you offer up your name."
Despite the slight nervousness in her mind over speaking to a demon, the sergeant managed to fight through and offer a smooth greeting. There were always moments where she was forced to report to superiors and during those moments she could fend off those anxious feelings. A silence was taken by Kaitlynn to allot the stranger time to offer her name alongside any addition information she may provide.
"By the way, I arrived early so I did a quick area sweep," the angel stated. She stretched her wings to their full wingspan to subtly indicate the method of which she accomplished that. "Nothin' looks array based on an initial overlook. Checked out the walls walking back and they have no serious damage. Did you manage to catch anything while headin' here?"
A tone of friendliness was maintained while she spoke as an attempt to set a pleasant atmosphere for both of them. Demons and angels were always depicted as polar opposites and Kaitlynn was hoping that was not the case here. Especially since her polar opposite would be a spineless whimp which would definitely be difficult to work with. While the sergeant's purple eyes remained on the demon woman, there was a curious glint held in them. She was interesting in witnessing demons were truly like since her biological parents chastised her against speaking to Hell species due to her Heaven affiliation. It only fed her interest in meeting one and now the perfect opportunity had been provided to her to do just that.
The looming structure of ice stood tall before the young angel as she stared up at the tall icy towers. It was a hulking giant of ice that covered a good portion of Wanderer's Meadow and due to the tourism spark it required guarding. A beautiful castle of ice was wonderful, but the largeness of the icy wonderland made it incredibly difficult to protect the premises. Thus, the sergeant known as Kaitlynn Harris offered the mighty building a sigh of annoyance. Despite her tactful attitude, it was still difficult to keep the tourist attraction safe. The sheer size allowed terrors a better chance to slip through the cracks or borrow into some unknown cavern. Patrols did their part to keep the dastardly creatures out, but it was never a permanent remedy and naturally people would get hurt.
In a hasty manner, Kaitlynn's hands reached up to adjust the collar of her TRS uniform so it rested halfway up. A caution was kept in her quick movements since she knew the sharpened nails on her metal gauntlets could easily puncture the fabric. Carefully, she brushed some of her dark brown hair with purple tips out of her face. As usual, the female angel wore the purple makeup she had come to treasure. Light purple tinged her lips meanwhile a darker shade eye shadow covered her upper eye lids. The eyelashes were also given the usual treatment, making them look bolder and longer opposed to the drab regular appearance. A slow exhale escaped in a cloud of steam the sergeant's lips while she turned away from the wall. Staring at the huge structure was not going to properly protect it alongside the people within the icy walls. Her gaze drifted across the treeline before remaining a few moments on the path.
A few moments were taken to watch the copious amounts of tourists filter in and out of the temporary establishment. Smiles were held on a majority of faces which suggested the enjoyment that awaited on the inside; perhaps she should ask her brother to attend the festivities with her sometime. Whether or not Daniel would enjoy it was an entirely different question, but it would be worth a shot nonetheless. After a few seconds of her eyes lingering on the entrance, Kaitlynn turned away. She had arrived to her post early and there had been no reports filtering in quite yet. A pause was taken before the angel summoned her white wings, stretching them out to reveal her large wingspan. Carefully, she surveyed the treeline to make certain there were no terrors lurking close to the current section. Once she was assured, the large white wings began to flap and lift the adult woman into the air.
Sweeping the area would be quicker if she flew, and it would be an excellent way to do an initial overlook. Afterwards time could be spent on a slow walk back towards this location to check for any damages or terrors lurking around the walls. With that in mind, Kaitlynn brought herself high into the sky before angling her body and stretching her wings for a smooth glide around the main gate. Based on an first inspection, the wall was well maintained and only bore the odd few scratch marks and insignificant pieces of damages. The treeline lacked the hideous creatures and from what Kaitlynn's ears could tell there was no clanking of machinery. A quick gaze was taken on the inside of the structure, a young child seeing her in flight and offering some wild waving. It caused a smile to become plastered on the angel's face; it reminded her of the reason to join the TRS. It was to protect these innocent people from the harsh reality that Zeredah would have created. She flew downwards and began to slow her acceleration in order to land on the snow covered ground.
She landed on the edge of the patrolling area, the sergeant soon turned on her heel and began walking back the way she flew. Gently, her wings settled across her back to avoid being a hassle to her walking. There was a content expression on Kaitlynn's face while she walked back and assessed the border alongside the outer area. Just as a majority of hunters, she was willing to sacrifice her life in order to keep the innocent citizens safe from the Zeredah's horrible creatures. While she walked, the woman flexed her hands within the metal gauntlets. Small clicks were made while the metal gloves were moved without a single squeak which tugged the corner of the angel's lips up. She was prepared to do battle with whatever creature came her way, but for now it was time to remain patient and head back towards the beginning of the patrol section. If she was correct, Kaitlynn had been informed that she would be working with another individual and they were likely there now unless they were late. With that in mind, the sergeant picked up her pace and prepared herself mentally to provide an introduction to this individual; should they be there that was.
Kaitlynn stands at a tall height of 5’9” and is a lean and powerful figure. From years of training, her body is covered in muscles. Her body is fit by all definitions due to plenty of exercise and some healthy eating. Despite her muscular body, Kaitlynn still possesses a womanly hourglass figure. Surprisingly, her skin is scarless despite her years of hunting. Below her left eye is a small beauty mark that is never covered. Her skin tone is a honey shade and usually has a clean complexion. Sometimes it can have various cuts or bruises on it caused by hunting.
When it comes to Kaitlynn’s face she does tend to wear makeup. Oftentimes her lips are covered in purple lipstick to give them a more purple hue. Eyeshadow in a brighter shade of purple marks her eyes. It is not uncommon for Kaitlynn to make certain her eyelashes are long and bold looking. She has pierced ears and will sometimes wear earrings. Her eyes are a bright purple and usually hold a shine of determination. The styling of Kaitlynn’s hair is extremely different from when she lived with her parents. Half of her head was shaved, designs being placed into the stubble of hair there. The remainder of it has been combed to the right side in wavy locks. Mostly her hair is dark brown while the tips are purple. At times the roots can become lighter.
As of clothing, Kaitlynn can either be seen on some casual wear or her TRS uniform. She oftentimes wears clothing that is simple or that she believes is fashionable. It is not uncommon to find her trying to incorporate the colour purple into what she wears. She does like to wear clothing that features skulls. During hunting she wears specially made gloves that can hold her electricity for a while to make them more powerful. The nails are also longer to allow Kaitlynn to scratch people if needed. When it comes to her wings they are by far interesting being white and speckled with unnoticeable shades of grey; this is believed to be a trait cause from nephilim being in her blood lines.
Light Manipulation --- Intermediate When it comes to manipulating light, Kaitlynn is best defensively with the aspect. Rarely, will she use this for offensive needs which leaves it used less. Due to her defensive training with it, she is excellent at creating shields. This can tire her out easily due to her lack of training in it. Her offensive attacks also tend to be less effective than most and can easily break if somebody tries to block them or deflect them.
Electricity Manipulation --- Advanced The power of Kaitlynn’s electricity manipulation is impressive since she has put plenty of training into it. Her electricity is powerful, but due to this it can take a large amount of energy. This has caused Kaitlynn’s appetite to skyrocket since she needs to make certain she is not hungry or exhausted. This has led to her consuming large amounts before missions in order to make certain she has all the energy required.
Healing --- Beginner Never has Kaitlynn been particularly good at healing people. She simply lacks the talent to do so and it takes massive payloads of energy. Small cuts and minor wounds she can heal, but that is about it.
Wing Manifestation --- Intermediate As of wing manifesting Kaitlynn is fairly average and can’t do anything spectacular. If she is too tired or has had too much to drink her wings will not manifest.
Ward Creation --- Beginner There has never been a reason for Kaitlynn to create a ward, thus she never bothered with it. Should she attempt she would exhaust herself instantly.
Blessings --- Beginner As it currently stands, Kaitlynn is training this ability. It has taken time and she still remains merely a beginner. Blessings do tend to make her tired quicker, but she can manage 1-2 of them before exhausting her energy. Around 3 will cause her to go unconscious.
backstory
Before Kaitlynn came to Lorsette she lived with her family in Lethbridge, Alberta with her 5 older brothers. Her parents believed old values, even going the length of deciding that Kaitlynn would have an arranged marriage the instant the child was born. Most of her brothers were distant from her, except for Daniel who was the second eldest child. Constantly, her parents insisted that Kaitlynn had to be treated differently from the boys, yet, the little girl always managed to go play the rough games with her brothers. It allowed the girl to become a tomboy almost immediately, but shortly her strict parents began interfering. They would hand her dolls with the expectation of her playing with them. It lead for days spent trying to find something decent to play with.
As time went on, Kaitlynn found that during her days at home she only had Daniel to play with unless she invited friends over. Alas, friends coming over became a rarity since all her friends were either tomboyish girls or boys. This resulted in her parents speaking to her at the age of 8 about how she should not be playing those types of games. Kaitlynn retaliated and demanding to know why she was not allowed to play those games. Her parents merely stated that they were uncivilized and unfit for a fragile little girl like herself. That was when they began trying to force ladylike behavior onto Kaitlynn, which caused her to grow further from her parents. The young girl simply hated the concept of being ladylike, which resulted in the failure in trying to change her behavior. Eventually, it got to the point where Kaitlynn was beginning to contemplate running away from her home. She decided not to try and instead thought about maybe entering the workforce early so she could move out sooner.
When Kaitlynn became 12, those ideas of moving at 18 were shredded when she were informed of the marriage her parents arranged for her. Hatred came with the idea dn the young girl began arguing with her parents as they began informing her to who she would marry. Eventually, they began planning dates for Kaitlynn and the man she would be forced to marry. It was easy to say that Kaitlynn hated him, he was jerk and would treat everybody like dirt. Constantly, he would drone on about himself and never even attempt to learn anything about his future wife. It went on like that for 3 years until Kaitlynn knew she had to round up her courage and run away; to her it was a sin to stay. One day when she was 15, the young girl packed her largest backpack with items she would need which included; food, money, clothes, water and a thick blanket. The night afterwards, Kaitlynn descended the stairs from her room and began to make her way towards the door in silence. The person who stopped her was the older brother she was closest with, Daniel. They talked in hushed whispers, Kaitlynn stating that she had to escape from this life. With some convincing, her older brother drove her a few towns over and paid for a hotel room for her and told her to stay there.
Kaitlynn obeyed and a few days later, her 2 years older brother returned and stated that if she was going to run away he was coming too. Their last night in the hotel room was spent radically changing their appearances. Kaitlynn developed a new style, shaving almost half her head and bringing the remaining hair to the other side. The hair was dyed darker and the tips of it was dyed in purple. She began wearing purple eyeshadow and lipstick to match. Her ears got pierced, which was something her parents would have disapproved of significantly. Styles were changed, Kaitlynn rocking a punkish look at the time. Afterwards, they headed out and gave the front desk lady a tip to not inform anybody of their leaving. They left in a beat up junker that her brother had traded with an older man who had conveniently forgot to take off the old license plates. The pair travelled far, heading all the way to Newfoundland & Labrador to escape their parents.
With little money, they were forced to work at one of the local business and live in the beat up junker. They travelled from parking lot to parking lot until some older man found them in Lorsette. He was kind enough to offer them lodging, warm food and some time in the shower. They were permitted to stay for a while, eventually growing close to the elderly man. To pay for their stay Kaitlynn and her brother helped him with some jobs around the house. Eventually they all grew close and became somewhat of a family, Daniel and Kaitlynn even adopting the man’s last name over their own.
As years went on, they remained in Lorsette and were referred to as the elderly man’s adopted children. Kaitlynn and Daniel were both placed back into school under his name after a custody claim went through. For once, Kaitlynn was able to participate in sports and found herself enjoying the activity. She became competitive and was the captain of the soccer, baseball and hockey team. When Kaitlynn became 17 she realized that she desired to become a hunter, thus the elderly man who was a former sergeant began training her. As time went on, Kaitlynn’s body was covered in lean muscles. Her powers were for trained despite not being the same species as the elderly man. Electricity manipulation was where her talent was, causing her to rely on that.
Later on the elderly man helped her create special gloves to vent her electricity through for better control even around lightning rods. Upon joining, Kaitlynn quickly became a hunter due to her prior training. Due to her leadership and fighting skills she became an elite hunter only 3 years into her hunting term. When Kaitlynn became 22 was when she began dating since she believed she was safe from her parents. None of the partners stayed, but the experience always made the young woman happy. As time progressed, her skills continued improving until Kaitlynn was transferred from unit one to unit two in order to fill a sergeant slot. To this day that is where Kaitlynn has remained with no plans of returning to her old life. Multiple times she has refused to be transferred to another city to take a lieutenant rank since she has grown to love Lorsette.
