Welcome to The Duality of Man, an original animanga role-play that features numerous supernatural creatures. Unfortunately, these various species have distanced themselves because of the war that occurred thousands of years ago, plaguing some with eyes that only see their dualism. While others meddle themself with their differences, two groups fight, each attempting to eliminate the other in for their definition of worldly peace. These two groups of the Terror Response Syndicate (TRS) and the Assembly of Phantoms (AP). With individuals fighting merely over their differences, it brings uncertainty to the outcome of this war.
We happily accept all role-players as long as they obey the rules and are capable of meeting our word count of 50. This does include those who are unfamiliar with this style of role-playing. The staff of The Duality of Man are willing to happily help those who are new to the role-playing world so they feel comfortable on site. Feel free to message the staff if you need help, they can be found here or in the site Discord and will gladly answer questions alongside calm concerns. If you have any suggestions we would love to hear them; guests may use the support board as a suggestion area as well. Should you decide to join, may I say welcome to the site and we all hope you enjoy your time here.
Yours Truely,

Heat has broken through into a glorious summer. The snow has entirely dried through the spring, leaving to the brilliance of the warmer months. Terror activity has risen as people are brought out of their homes, leaving the TRS in a position of consistent work. Each are attempting to maintain victory in the endless struggle for power.
Since the wonderful members of TDOM enjoy the site enough to play around on it, this thread is to assist with the site's tidying! Functionality is important and we want to make the site functional even if its activity will be minimal at best!
sometimes the enemy is locked within your own mind
It was fascinating that Avery gained the opportunity to engage Aurora in conversation after that evening where they initially met. Complaints were not registered, rather, he discovered relief in conversing with the short-haired woman again. They could hardly be labelled as friends, but an acquaintance was better than a complete stranger in Avery’s opinion. Social capability was definitely a failing of his, thus the male lycanthrope found it easier to interact with even a slightly familiar face.
Furthermore, Aurora was not among his list of clientele. Plenty eyes rolled at Avery’s stick-in-the-mud behaviours and perhaps wished for an improved interaction. Meanwhile, the short-haired brunette woman proved to accept his attitude. The playful young woman would undoubtedly make the experience interesting. The one-eyed man adjusted slightly, assuring he would be comfortable in his seat. His green eye noticed the smile stretching across Aurora’s face as she claimed being lucky. It was somewhat of a comfort for Avery to hear...
It was proof his behaviour would be considered acceptable. A relief for the regularly phlegmatic and serious man. When she mentioned being sad about not working, however, Avery shrugged.
“It happens, I have to take time off sometimes,” Avery explained with a shrug.
As expected, the male lycanthrope lacked a reaction to Aurora’s playfulness and teasing. Fortunately, a smile remained on the woman’s face through their interaction. Then her honest opinion arrived about his participation in this event. Shortly after her statement she inquired about why he joined this event.
“In all honesty, I never applied for the event myself. I have two kids I take care of and one of them decided to sign me up. I hope that is not a problem,” Avery stated truthfully. “What was your reason, Aurora?”
He could have stated he signed up on a whim of emotions, however, Avery opted for complete transparency about the subject. It felt fair to Aurora to be completely honest about his reason for being here.
sometimes the enemy is locked within your own mind
Dates were hardly considered Avery's forte, hence, Aurora's presence was somewhat a comfort for the bodyguard. Their initial interaction was brief, however, the short-haired woman never manifested discourse throughout their exchange. Naturally, there could always be a lurking evil beneath the kindest of faces, but Avery could tolerate Aurora. Unfortunately for the young woman, Avery's lack of expressiveness failed to evolve since their interaction. The bodyguard remained stony-faced and serious despite the location being advertised as a dating scene.
Although, a keener eye could barely notice the subtle ease captured in his body language. It suggested familiarity or slight notes of comfort through the regularly uncertain situation of a blind date. Their interaction could have some pleasantry, however, Avery still hoped he would not ruin Aurora's evening. The primary goal was assuring the individual who intended on signing up would enjoy the festivities. A soft laugh escaped his date's mouth as she inquired about him not working; their first interaction did feature a similar serious front.
"Not this evening," he answered solemnly.
Undoubtedly, his behaviour had not altered since the evening they first met. Formerly a pair of strangers who crossed on a sidewalk in the dead of night now acquaintances enjoying the evening. Her playful comments never bothered the one-eyed man, thus when she corrected, he provided a small shrug. Only moments after her apology, she mentioned her anxieties ceasing.
"It's fine, I'm not easily offended," he responded, finding the apology unnecessary. "I'm glad to hear. Although, I'm surprised we were matched considering the chances."
There were plenty of other tables, creating the assumption their match was sheer luck. It seemed unlikely they would be paired for the date, but Avery would not complain about it. His familiarity with Aurora meant she would already be aware of his phlegmatic behaviours.
sometimes the enemy is locked within your own mind
There was silence as they returned to the manor Avery originally came from. Lights poured over the yard from the main house, making it clear there were some festivities happening inside. Poking from the stone pillars of the wrought iron fence were a pair of lanterns which slightly illuminated the faces of the guards standing outside. Portions of their facial features were obscured by the shadows surrounding them currently. Nonetheless, Avery managed to notice their grim, serious expressions as they regarded the approaching pair.
The one-eyed man would not question their cautious actions. It was peculiar for a bodyguard to leave only to return with a young woman whom they considered a stranger. They carefully watched as Aurora and Avery approached, eyes trained on them as they drew closer to the guards. During their approach, the male lycanthrope inquired if Aurora wished to wait inside for her ride to arrive. While convincing the guards that her intentions were nothing sinister could be a little difficult, there would be warmth and safety inside the building.
Alas, the woman stated her ride would not be long, therefore, she would wait outside. The male lycanthrope glanced at her, forest green eye locking before giving her a nod.
"I understand. I will let the gate guards know you are waiting for a ride," Avery stated as they approached.
The distance between them and the pair of guards were closed with a few more steps. The gate guards looked between Avery and Aurora, clearly expecting an explanation from the bodyguard.
"I found her while doing my rounds. She got a little spooked, so she will just be waiting for her ride here," Avery explained to the guards. "She won't be any trouble and if she causes you issues, I will take responsibility."
The guards listened to the explanation, briefly analyzing Avery then Aurora before proceeded to survey the area. Nothing seemed awry, thus they gave a nod of approval before moving to allow Avery entrance.
"Be safe, Miss Aurora. Goodnight," Avery said in farewell.
With those words, he left the sidewalk to head down the walkway to return to the manor. The bodyguard's hands were hidden inside his pockets as he returned to the home, prepared to work the remainder of the evening.
sometimes the enemy is locked within your own mind
The day of lovers was never Avery favoured day. Valentine’s Day was merely another of the many work days in his week, at least, it usually was. Unlike the regular Valentine’s Days, Avery procured a date through methods he admittedly wanted to avoid. One of the children he cared for, Robyn, noticed his lack of friends and romantic relationships and decided signing him up was an excellent choice. The one-eyed man’s desires were discarded, completely ignored in favour of finding him a special someone. Unfortunately, the bodyguard was not over-zealous about the notions of love.
A soft sigh escaped Avery’s lips as he sorted through his potential attire. The male lycanthrope hardly possessed any special clothing. The obtained formal garbs were often designed for his shifts at formal parties opposed to dates. Either way, expectation weighed and Avery knew it was easier to follow "protocol" and match the events. There would be less obnoxious staring or gossipy whispers to handle. Thus, the one-eyed brunette plucked a white dress shirt and dark-coloured vest with a subtle shade of forest green.
The outfit was commonly wore during work events where there was no specific uniform, however, it would be suitable for the evening. The clothes were spread onto the bed while Avery returned to his closet to grab a pair of dark, near-black dress pants. Once satisfied with the choices, the man changed into the formal attire he chose for the evening. From the nearby dresser, Avery obtained his wallet, phone and keys to his motorcycle. Around his wrist was a specialized charm which assisted with his claustrophobia and acted as a temperature regulator.
Quietly, he moved through the home, slipping on a pair of shoes before tossing his large, black jacket over his shoulders. It swayed as he pulled the fringes closer, the edges reaching down to his calves. The buttons were done up before Avery reached door and exited through the threshold. Chilly night air surrounded him, breath turning to a faint, white cloud. He stood on the other side, eye locking on the stars above. His country home allowed him a pleasant view of the night sky on this particularly chilled evening.
Motionlessly, he admired the nature around him. The soft rustling of the trees in the gentle wind, the snow-topped trees stretching out around him and star-filled sky. He pondered what would become of this night, however, the cynic's mind insisted nothing good would rise. Chances were, his date was not looking for somebody with his ill-favourable appearance and phlegmatic personality. Either way, the unfortunate individual would be stuck with him for the evening. The lycanthrope shoved his hands into the depths of his pockets and allowed a sigh to breath through his lips.
He strolled towards his motorcycle, forest green eyes glancing over it before hauling himself on. Due to the side effects of his claustrophobia, he preferred it for comfort reasons. As Avery started the vehicle, it roared to life, the sounds of a loud motor filling his ears. A helmet was pulled on before he lifted his feet and sped through the country roads. From there, he weaved through until reaching the city streets where he followed the directions. When he arrived, the man pulled into one of the spaces, taking his key and slipping off the helmet.
The safety equipment was tucked beneath his arm while he approached the restaurant for the fated evening. He entered, approaching sign in where he provided his name before placing his helmet beside the coat rack and heading in. As he entered, the one-eyed man fiddled with his buttons, undoing them while he searched for his table. Slowly, he began narrowing down his options until noticing a table occupied by one familiar woman. A brow rose as Avery approached, his forest green eyes noticing the name tag placed on the adjacent seat to her.
"I was not expecting to see you here," he said as he stepped closer. "It appears I'm your date this evening, Miss Aurora."
The short-haired woman struck a memory of another evening where he was working. He remembered wandering the sidewalks to discover her running from something. The familiar brown locks, brown eyes accompanied by a slim physique were among her recognizable traits. The primary change was the black dress she wore, something decorated with lace accents. Clearly, she prepared herself for her upcoming date better than the one-eyed lycanthrope. She managed to groom herself beautiful, although, most men and women were attempting to look appealing.
The chair was adjusted, Avery undoing the final buttons before settling into the chair. He allowed his jacket to continue hanging around his shoulders. There would be nothing fancy about his behaviour, but he hoped on being tolerable.
sometimes the enemy is locked within your own mind
They walked together, Avery’s eyes scanning the area around him. These observations were automatic accomplished, an impulse designed for his safety and the safety of his clients. Alas, it began around the negative childhood filled with malicious bullies and loneliness. The concerns increased as he was provided permission to become a protective bodyguard. As they moved through the concrete sidewalks, the male lycanthrope allowed his senses to check the area. There was a gentle tapping from their shoes meeting the concrete below their feet.
The one-eyed man did not respond to Aurora’s promise to be good. At most, his forest green eyes glanced over at the short-haired woman, watching her for a few moments. There was a necessity to assure nothing was going awry and his decisions were not dangerous. The protection of his clients came before anything else, therefore, he was required to assure this woman would not cause harm. While he doubted she would accomplish anything despicable, it was nonetheless his duties as a bodyguard to attend to his suspicions.
Quietly, Avery led the young woman back towards the building he was hired to assist with protecting. Gradually, the mansion was coming into view, prompting the male lycanthrope to search more often.
"Did you want to wait inside?" Avery inquired as they approached.
The front gate was reaching their view, a pair of well-dressed guards standing at the entrance. Their gazes met, the guard's bodies stiffening as Avery returned with a stranger. From what they remembered, the one-eyed man left alone, hence their nervousness.
sometimes the enemy is locked within your own mind
The lack of responsiveness to Aurora's playful teasing was undoubtedly natural for the grim-faced bodyguard. Throughout their interaction, he failed to display a proper response, or at least, the one Aurora seeked. Alas, her persistence carried on, stubbornly refusing to be dampened by his attitude. Based upon their interaction, Avery was under the impression of Aurora being a cheerful person. She consistently joked and seemed capable of enjoying his company despite his attitude.
The male lycanthrope refused to register a complaint. There was nothing negative about her company according to her attitude. Unfortunately, as a bodyguard with a sense of cynicism, he maintained a wary suspicion. Anybody could easily hide their true intentions, especially once deception was a mastered skill. He met those types of people in the form of his schoolyard bullies who maliciously held their horrible intentions. Therefore, the one-eyed man carefully watched the young woman, assuring his safety and the party guests' despite the distance.
The short-haired woman provided some teasing comments in relation to his eye roll response. The tone shifted as Aurora commentated on his occupation. Her words turned genuine as she mentioned his occupation and understood his reasons.
"Thank you," he responded with a slight nod.
Sounds of a ringing phone manifested when Aurora clicked the call button. Quietly, Avery followed the woman as they searched for her phone. The phone was retrieved moments later and shortly afterwards, Avery's returned. His device was turned off and shoved back into the depths of his pockets. When thanks was given, the male lycanthrope nodded in response to Avery's words. A question arrived, one which reminded him of an offer. Before she theoretically discovered her missing phone, the male brunette offered her a ride home.
It involved staying at the party, and the mysterious woman had avoided leaping at the offer. Perhaps she was trustworthy, however, Avery planned on watching her carefully. The offer towards a search was met with a shake of the head.
"You just plan on waiting, so we can head there," Avery explained. "Now c'mon."
The one-eyed man turned around, glancing over his shoulder with the expectation for Aurora to catch up. With his lack of familiarity with the woman, he desired to not have her stationed behind him. The lycanthrope's ears remained pricked, his nose sniffing the air, using his enhanced senses to subtly check for anything suspicious.
sometimes the enemy is locked within your own mind
Fortunately, there were methods to retrieve lost phones as long as the number was known by the tracker. Specialized apps were created to assist with those matters, however, considering they were in the general area, calling the device was the easiest option. Therefore, Avery was willing to lend assistance to the distressed brunette. Her behaviours failed to replicate the criminal attitudes he witnessed through his years of work. Nonetheless, he would observe her movements and assure his evaluation of her character was correct.
His natural cynicism resulted in his difficulties to settle in the situation. The female brunette gave Avery no reasons to refuse trust, but getting past his historic issues was a struggle. People harmed him constantly throughout his life, hence his unexpected struggles. The woman's smile followed by her teasing as expected, failed to prompt a proper response from the bodyguard. He merely rolled his eyes in response to the idea, not amused by the present situation. Another comment was added in the form of a playful question.
"I am supposed to be concerned about the safety of my clients," Avery stated in a professional voice.
The teasing continued as Aurora mentioned an anti-climatic end to the present problem. She was correct about the notion, it was definite.
"It is, but it will be alright," Avery assured.
He provided Aurora his phone, however, he watched her use it. There were no quicker solutions to assist with finding the cellphone. It motivated him to assist her to allow her to return to the safety of her home. He waited for her to call her phone, the ringing started again after the phone was typed in. The male lycanthrope glanced around, however, he was pleased when Aurora stated she saw the phone. The bodyguard glanced over, watching Aurora fetch her phone.
sometimes the enemy is locked within your own mind
Throughout their interaction, Avery remained neutral-toned, failing to lean towards friendly or aloof. A majority of circumstances featured an unfriendly man, however, he supposed the casual interaction failed to bother me. Quietly, the lycanthrope stood nearby, expression lacking as he listened. The brunette stated her awareness, followed by mentioning how unexpected his sudden appearance was. He started her with his approach, however, he hardly cared about frightening Aurora. She was somebody he needed to mildly pay attention for the sake of protection.
As proven by his actions, Avery had no intentions of obeying the young woman's requests. The male lycanthrope shrugged in response, making it clear he lacked care about her emotions and opinions about his accidental startling. These instincts were constant because of his occupation as a bodyguard. He watched her, waiting for an answer to his question, his protective nature insisting on the requirement. An inquiry was returned, Avery performing an eye roll in response to the playfully asked question he received.
Suspicions were serious when one worked in protection, therefore, he decided to avoid interacting with the playful side of Aurora in this situation. Fortunately, Avery received an answer related to the woman's phone being missing. Despite their strange interactions, the male brunette agreed to assist Aurora.
"I see," he breathed out.
There was an opportunity to assist Aurora and the bodyguard decided to help. When Aurora stated "may I", Avery nodded and passed her his cellphone. He carefully watched her as she proclaimed to memorizing her number. His expression was guarded as she observed him, waiting for her to call her phone and track it down.
sometimes the enemy is locked within your own mind
There was always a chance Aurora could be displeased with his choice to proceed down the sidewalk. The desires of the short-haired woman hardly concerned the dutiful bodyguard. He was tasked with the occupation of protecting others and monitoring the security of a wealthy man's party, not obeying the commands of a woman he recently met. Therefore, her request was ignored and Avery had walked down the sidewalk, rounding the corner and noticing her searching through shrubs. It was a peculiar observation, one which naturally prompted Avery to question.
The male lycanthrope noticed the symptoms of being startled. The woman had failed to detect the one-eyed man's footsteps when he approached. He watched her, waiting for her explanation on the strange activity she was accomplishing. Nobody he had met thus far abruptly began searching through a plant without a proper reason. It was his responsibility as a protector, even if the distance between their current location and the party was considerable. A soft sigh was followed by a pout as Aurora repeated her request of waiting.
"I have a job to do, so staying put was not an option," he explained in a neutral tone. "Now, can I know what you are doing with the bushes?"
The topic Avery wished to gain more information on was Aurora's intentions with looking through the bushes. One could never be careful enough and the male lycanthope had been educated on that fact. The occupation he was expected to accomplish demanded those traits. He listened to the woman's words and nodded in response.
"So you're phone is missing? I wish you had told me sooner. I have a keen sense of hearing," the bodyguard explained.
He listened to the woman explain further, Avery pausing in thought as he scanned the bushes. Moments later his hand reached into the depths of his pocket to retrieve his phone.
"Do you remember the number Aurora? We can call it with my phone and find it because of the ringing," Avery asked calmly.
He hoped Aurora could recall her phone number. While Avery was not against assisting her in searching for the device, calling the phone would be undoubtedly quicker. There was also the lingering issue of his job requiring his presence back when his break concluded.
sometimes the enemy is locked within your own mind
At a slower pace, Avery followed Aurora down the sidewalk, unable to view her since she rounded the corner. The male lycanthrope’s ears remained pricked and other senses familiarizing themselves with the surrounding area. Should Aurora find herself burdened with trouble, Avery hoped to detect it. The sound of a phone ringing reached his sensitive ears. It was the noise which prompted the short-haired woman’s abrupt departure. He proceeded down the sidewalk, eyes combing the wealthy neighbourhood for suspicious activity. There was a stillness noticed in the night because of his companion sprinting ahead.
There was something about nightfall that managed to relax Avery as he walked alone. The lack of movement, limited lighting and silence inspired tranquillity as he walked. While the one-eyed man was required to stay alert, he appreciated the calm nature of an autumn evening. The sleeve of his coat was adjusted, the brown-haired man glancing over the watch secured to his wrist. There was plenty of time before he was due back, therefore, he proceeded at his pace. His arm returned to his side, eyes accomplishing a fresh survey of the surrounding area.
Eventually, he rounded the corner, finally catching sight of Aurora who was looking through shrubbery. The sight caused Avery to pause briefly, a brow raising at the sight. After a few moments of observing, he approached the short-haired blond.
"What are you looking for?" The one-eyed man inquired.
Only moments prior had Aurora requested him to wait, however, the bodyguard had decided to disobey the request. The short-haired woman was not his charge, therefore he lacked an adequate reason to cease. The walk around the block doubled as a patrol and as somebody enlisted to protect others, he was expected to accomplish that without hesitation.
sometimes the enemy is locked within your own mind
Silence surrounded them because of the absence of people when night reigned over Lorsette. Alas, there was some minor noise because of Avery's interactions with Aurora, which broke the fragile quiet. There were few things the male brunette could say about the short-haired woman. They engaged in regular conversation, adding some comfort to the foreboding silence surrounding them. Quietness could stir many potential emotions of fright, however, Avery was adjusted to scares of a Lorsette evening. He proceeded to walk alongside the short-haired brunette, senses alert and aware to the surrounding occurrences.
They were among the few people wandering the sidewalks on this evening despite the large, lavish party Avery was working for. People stayed inside their warm homes during these times, therefore, silence was not unusual. Alas, people became frightened because of reports of terrors and criminals sneaking through the night. The woman's remarks of dangers prompted Avery to lift a brow, her truthful commentary about it being interesting. Based on personal experience, Avery understood her opinions on almost everything being labelled dangerous because of the Assembly.
"You're not wrong," Avery agreed.
When the short-haired woman inquired about the closeness of the location, Avery nodded at her question. The following reassurance was responded to with a nod of acknowledgement. They walked together, a silence falling over their conversation as they moved. As they continued down the sidewalks, the sudden sound of a small jingle reached Avery's sensitive years. The male lycanthrope glanced around, curious about the mysterious origin of the sound. When asked if he heard it, the one-eyed man nodded, allowing his enhanced hearing to continue listening to the noise.
Questions raised when Aurora suddenly stated she would be right back, which was something unexpected. A strange noise followed by her hurrying away? It was peculiar... The bodyguard watched her hurry, however, he refused to remain still. Quietly, he trailed the woman, considering it his duty as somebody protecting the lives of several people. As a defender, Avery was required to remain suspicious when warranted, thus he kept his suspicions.
sometimes the enemy is locked within your own mind
Their steps proceeded down the concrete sidewalks, the soft sounds of their shoes colliding with the ground echoing through the dark night. A limited array of stars shone through the skies above, the city lights making them difficult to see. The entire scene appeared similar to the many nights before it, however, it failed to ease the nerves of the alert bodyguard, therefore, his eyes proceeded to accomplish steady sweeps of the surrounding area. Unfortunately, in the dangerous streets of Lorsette, these beautiful nights could not be enjoyed for their elegance.
When his forest green eyes returned to Aurora, he discovered a smile stretched across her lips. It was something soft, pleasant to witness because of thoughts of his treacherous occupation. There were moments where Avery was granted the privilege to observe a soft smile. A weak smile was returned, brief and merely lasting a few seconds before disappearing as though it never existed initially. Whenever the male lycanthrope managed to muster a smile, it was usually faint and short-lived. Viewing a grin from the bodyguard was a rarity, and anybody who knew him for a few moments noticed.
The woman agreed with his remarks on the evening being quieter before adding her enjoyment of the forested areas. As a fellow admirer of nature's magnificent beauty, Avery could understand her opinion.
"The wilderness is a great place. I would agree with you on it being better then the city... however," a sigh created a brief pause, "the Assembly had made it dangerous too."
Peril lurked in Calico Forest, the effects of the Assembly of Phantoms making it difficult to safely enjoy nature's offers. His claustrophobia made the wonderful world of nature a splendid, open plain which promoted feelings of peace. Alas, thoughts of nature summoned a sense of calmness to Avery's mind. The male lycanthrope's expression shifted to a subtle surprise when Aurora mentioned him being a charmer... It was something unexpected for somebody who displayed a phlegmatic attitude and a lack of expressiveness towards others.
The man with forest-green eyes shrugged at the remark, uncertain how to respond to being provided with those types of labels; he never thought he would even be called a charmer. When Aurora needed to fix her shoe, Avery ceased movement, granting her the opportunity to fix it without having to catch up. Once she finished fixing her shoe, the walk down the sidewalk began again. The conversation started again, fixated around his occupation. He nodded when she asked 'Really' and listened as she proceeded, evening inquiring about his break.
"I had half an hour, but they know I'm patrolling around the block. Besides, I can hurry back if I need to," he explained calmly.
As somebody with enhanced speed, Avery was hardly concerned about escorting the short-haired woman for quite a distance. Returning to the manor would not be difficult because of his abilities, thus he proceeded with walking beside her with hardly a care.
