Welcome to The Duality of Man, an original animanga role-play that features numerous supernatural creatures. Unfortunately, these various species have distanced themselves because of the war that occurred thousands of years ago, plaguing some with eyes that only see their dualism. While others meddle themself with their differences, two groups fight, each attempting to eliminate the other in for their definition of worldly peace. These two groups of the Terror Response Syndicate (TRS) and the Assembly of Phantoms (AP). With individuals fighting merely over their differences, it brings uncertainty to the outcome of this war.
We happily accept all role-players as long as they obey the rules and are capable of meeting our word count of 50. This does include those who are unfamiliar with this style of role-playing. The staff of The Duality of Man are willing to happily help those who are new to the role-playing world so they feel comfortable on site. Feel free to message the staff if you need help, they can be found here or in the site Discord and will gladly answer questions alongside calm concerns. If you have any suggestions we would love to hear them; guests may use the support board as a suggestion area as well. Should you decide to join, may I say welcome to the site and we all hope you enjoy your time here.
Yours Truely,
The Staff

Summer 2024
Heat has broken through into a glorious summer. The snow has entirely dried through the spring, leaving to the brilliance of the warmer months. Terror activity has risen as people are brought out of their homes, leaving the TRS in a position of consistent work. Each are attempting to maintain victory in the endless struggle for power.
Since the wonderful members of TDOM enjoy the site enough to play around on it, this thread is to assist with the site's tidying! Functionality is important and we want to make the site functional even if its activity will be minimal at best!

he amber of Brendon’s gaze flickered back to the elder woman as she introduced her son, and out of the corner of his eye he could see his mother tipping her head to him in silent greeting. Brendon didn’t, but he did peer up at him, his eyes large and curious, and then roamed back to the redhead when he was introduced as their grandson, Dexter.
“Good evening.” The grandson greeted.
Brendon took another bite of his chocolate rasberry mousse cake and licked his lips, savoring the flavor, while his mother did all the work of having to converse with the family. He listened to their small talk about the gathering, business, and the fact that the Adams hadn’t attended in quite a long time.
“You don’t mind?” His mother questioned and had brought him up into the conversation, along with Dexter. Brendon had finished his cake and she elegantly had taken it from him, placing it on the silver tray as a butler passed by. “Well then, Brendon, how about you show Dexter around?”
He didn’t like it, and he didn’t want to. But, the only thing that represented his inner feelings was the frown he wore, which he didn’t keep long.

he black feline had likely had enough. Brendon watched as the cat began to desperately try and escape Skyler and thankfully the redhead allowed her to gracefully jump down to the ground. “Nope, can’t say I do.” Skyler looked to him and motioned with a wave of his arm for Brendon to start getting down from the tree. “Though, I’d love to have one, but y’know the rules.” He gave a shrug of his shoulder, disappointed but accepting of the law. Brendon let out a sigh, and gave a grumpy face, as he began to descend down from the tree, stepping onto the chair he had used.
“I’d want a wolf,” He decided, procrastinating from the actual descent as he began to swing from the branch like a monkey, a grin spreading across his face. “Or a pet deer.” He added thoughtfully, but bit his bottom lip in uncertainty.
The black cat had stuck with them, like their little buddy, and both Brendon and Skyler grinned down at her when she suddenly began yowling. It reminded Brendon of what he had heard when she had first been stuck up in the tree. She really was acting like a housepet, and he wondered, deviously, if anyone was breaking the house rules.
“I’d love to have a pet cat,” Skyler decided, sobering somewhat at the reality that he never would. But, when he reached down to try and give her another pet, she surprisingly evaded him. “She’s playing a game with us,” Skyler pointed out when she dashed into the house, peeking back at them to see if they would follow, before she disappeared inside.
“Hide and seek?” Brendon guessed as he continued swinging.
“Tag!” Skyler tagged him and suddenly darted off, causing Brendon to nearly fall from the tree in shock. “What! No fair!” He hollered after him, dropping down to give chase.
It was roughly fifteen or so minutes later when two heavily breathing, and laughing, boys entered the decrepit shack. Skyler was too tall and was forced to awkwardly lean in order to avoid the hanging pinecones. “Here kitty kitty kitty,” He sang and plopped down into the single chair beside the table.
Brendon stepped inside as well, his gaze having to adjust to the dimmer lighting of the interior. “It’d be great if we had our own castle cat.” He laughed. “Maybe I’ll start bringing meat and milk!”

frown pressed into Brendon’s features as he watched the closed door for a prolonged moment, after his mother’s retreat. Her words, and Josuah’s, were starting to affect him. The pent-up frustration ebbed away inside of him to be gradually replaced with a feeling of worry and confusion. Why had his mother agreed? What did she mean she had to go and find out what was going to happen? What did Josuah mean when he had asked if he was in any danger? It still didn’t make sense to him — this was his home; why would he be in danger?
Regardless, Josuah’s previous remark had still irked him, and he could feel it prickling at his nerves even now. Bringing his narrowed gaze to his familiar, he spoke up as he glowered at him. “It was still a stupid thing to say,” He huffed, moving to cross his arms over his chest.

‘
Do not distract your mother. If you wish to lash out then scream at me privately.’ Josuah’s voice filled his head, and effectively blocked out the chastising remarks of his mother, only to replace them with his own. ‘Who does Fergus care more about? You or a threat that has entered his home? I need to know what your mother knows.’
Brendon glowered over at Josuah, his cheeks still a healthy and hot red. His heart pounded within his chest, a frustrated sort of embarrassment looming over his petite form. He felt completely frazzled, but remained stonily silent, as his familiar addressed his mom again, trying to excuse his outburst.
A-And then, to his surprise, he was calling him master and reaching out his hand, wanting him to take it. Brendon made a face at him, his nose all scrunched up, his brows pressing down harshly, and his mouth tightly pursed, but nonetheless he moodily grasped onto his hand, swinging their arms a bit violently, and found himself being pulled over to his side.
He wanted so desperately to speak up, the words burning in his throat and mouth, but somehow he summoned the willpower to keep it all inside of him and remained quiet.
“I’m… going to find out what’s going on.” His mother answered as she stepped forward to pat them both on their heads for a brief moment. “And what is expected of Brendon based on his grandfather’s decision. You two stay here in the meantime. It shouldn’t take me more than a couple of hours,” She supplied and then moved to take her leave of the room.

“
What future does that decision hold for Brendon?” They were talking so gravely about the subject, and Josuah made it sound as though he were in some sort of terrible danger. But, that didn’t really make sense, and it caused him to pout, his cheeks puffing out somewhat. He had always been safe in the manor and so had his mother.
“Will he be safe? I do not care what happens to me, as long as he’s safe…”
Brendon balked at that statement, and immediately felt a flare of anger and retribution to such a stupid statement! “What!” He openly huffed, unable to control himself. “What a stupid thing to say! Why are you filled with a bunch of stupi—mmmmh.” The fourteen year old’s gaze widened with shock when his mother actually covered his mouth to keep him from talking onward.
“Brendon, control yourself,” She told him sternly, and looked down at him with disapproval. Brendon could feel himself growing red in the face, and his heart jumping a bit, because he was being chastised by his mom so much today! She really, really, didn’t like him calling Josuah stupid, but Brendon felt the desperate need to stomp the word all over him!

rendon glanced between the secretary and his mother, noticing the strain that had tightened his mom’s features. He didn’t really understand what was going on, especially since she had made it sound like his grandfather had agreed to the meeting, but from the way she looked Brendon felt that something was wrong. His heart began to beat quicker as he and Josuah were ushered back down the long hallway of the manor, a thick silence looming overhead.
“What decision has been reached?” Josuah spoke out a few minutes later, and both Brendon and August stopped to face him. Brendon was confused by the statement, while his mother seemed to lose a lot of color to her face. “If it involves my master’s safety I need to know.”
Brendon looked up to his mom, who was still stricken, and he suddenly felt bad for her, and a tightening in his stomach. W-Was something… wrong? Was something going on? What did Josuah mean by ‘a decision has been reached’? What decision? Where did he learn that? How come he didn’t know?
“It was just something I had talked to him about earlier this morning,” She supplied after a tense, pregnant, pause, and then ushered them both to continue down the hall with her, back to Brendon’s bedroom. “I had been hoping he would be willing to hear more from you two as well, but it seems that is not the case.”

he young brunette’s face tightened with distaste from where he sat in a white and beige chair, the reflection of himself staring back. His mother busied herself behind him, drawing her hands through his hair in one last sweep, and then stepped back to admire her handiwork. “And there we are,” Her smile was warm and there was pride in her hazel eyes as she stared back at him in the mirror. “Remember, you must be on your best behavior tonight. I mean it, Brendon, it’s very important.” She chastised lightly as Brendon reluctantly stood from the chair and accompanied her through the bedroom.
“But why do I have to go?” Her warning didn’t silence his complaint, and a disgruntled pout had settled into his features, causing his cheeks to swell, as he dragged his feet out into the hall. The resounding click of her bedroom door became the concrete reality of tonight’s formal gathering, and the fact that he was going to be attending whether he liked it or not. A loud sigh parted from his mouth, one born of frustration and a life of usually getting what he wanted. He was certain of it now; these social gatherings were quite literally the bane of his existence!
A short while later, when they entered the ballroom, a half dozen or so guests had already arrived, the echoes of animated chatter and mingling filling the two story space. Brendon’s gaze swept over the room, drawing up to the set of three crystal chandeliers as their luminescent glow flooded the ballroom. The walls were painted a soft beige, and elegant white curtains had been individually drawn over each of the twelve large, white-framed windows, that were normally aglow during the day.
Standing beside his mother, his posture tense, Brendon was adorned in a vest and dress pants of a medium gray, a white undershirt, and gold tie. He hadn’t noticed the way his mother’s gaze searched the room to find grandfather Fergus at the end, seated at a grand long table with Brendon’s cousin Eleanor and her fiance. The white lioness was the daughter of Angelina and Elijah, the most influential and powerful of the Matthews family, beside Fergus Matthews himself.
Brendon’s gaze roamed to an elderly woman who approached and his mother immediately greeted her, her voice friendly but docile. “Good evening, Mrs. Donnelly, I hope the night has been treating you kind?”
Brendon’s mind was vacant thoughts, only nerves and anxiety plaguing him, as he stared between the two women with a deep frown. It was through the subtle touch at his back, of his mother’s hand, that he straightened and greeted the elder. “Mrs. Donnelly,” He greeted hesitantly. His mother smiled down at him briefly before continuing the conversation with Mrs. Donnelly, and Brendon’s attention wandered passed the sets of dining tables, their green tablecloths and white folded napkins, to a familiar mop of raven hair atop a sourly stoic white pasty face; Damarian Matthews. At the sight of his cousin, Brendon scrunched his nose and narrowed his eyes. Damarian was seated by himself at a table while his mother and older brother were invested with a group of guests.
“Here, why don’t you have a slice of cake?” His mother offered a few minutes later, once they had been free of Mrs. Donnelly. Brendon first looked to her with clear reluctance, but his attention quickly fixated on the chocolate raspberry mousse cake she had picked out for him. “If you never came to one of these soiree's, then how would you ever be able to eat your favorite dessert?” She teased, knowing his weakness to the desert table.
Brendon’s stomach proceeded to grumble and he couldn’t fight the deep and insatiable hunger for the slice she was holding out for him. “Thank you,” He mumbled as he took the plate and held no self-control. He immediately brought a forkful into his mouth to savor the amazing taste of raspberries and chocolate. His mother’s soft laughter caused him to pout, because she was always telling him how cute he was. But, another family had approached their area, and so instead she turned to greet them in the same way she had Mrs. Donnelly.
“Good evening, Mr. and Mrs. Adams,” She somehow always knew who everyone was. Whenever he attended these gatherings, he always found it surprising that she seemed to know the last names of everyone who was invited. When his mother’s hand touched his back, Brendon’s large eyes flickered up to the elderly grandparents. “Good evening,” he mumbled and glanced toward the lanky redhead as he took another bite of his cake. He couldn’t tell the other’s age. He was tall and skinny, but didn’t have a mature face. He looked like maybe he was an older teenager. Maybe eighteen? He didn’t look quite as old as Leighton, Damarian brother, who was in his late twenties.

owever, before Brendon had been able to say anything, Josuah had shifted back into a human. “It was an accident,” He seemed to tell his mom more specifically, and Brendon continued to glower at him even in despite of the fact that his familiar seemed to be avoiding eye contact with him. Brendon didn’t understand why he was being so ridiculous! And about his stupid hair too! The fact that he had done all of that, and then come back into the room all moody, and was now avoiding him, just made him madder and madder by the second!
“...All right,” His mother didn’t sound convinced — maybe cause he was making it so obvious!!! — but she accepted his explanation anyway. “Well, then…” She paused to take in what seemed to be a shaky breath, and smoothed down her dress. “I guess we should go now. I want the two of you to try and explain everything you can to Fergus. I’ll try my best to explain all that I can as well.”
Suddenly, Brendon felt that sinking sort of feeling again. He could feel it in his stomach as he watched the way his mom looked and heard the way she sounded. His grandfather was nothing but bad news… He felt like it was likely a really bad thing that his grandfather wanted an explanation. But, it would probably be okay. It would just be intimidating… and annoying.
His mom opened the bedroom door for them and ushered them to head out, and Brendon suddenly felt like a weight had been placed over him, making his body feel a lot heavier as he stepped out of the room with them.

hey were both surprised, however, to look toward Josuah and find that he had transitioned back into the golden wolf-beast, and no longer stood before them as his human self. His mother immediately began to fret. “Come now, we need you in your human form to speak with Fergus.” She looked to Brendon with much more of a sharpness within her features as she told him more firmly, “Brendon, apologize to him for what you said.”
Brendon openly balked, and turned pink in the face, before his amber gaze jerked to Josuah. A part of him felt as though he were doing this on purpose! In order to get him in trouble and make him have to apologize in front of his mom!
“I only meant it looked stupid, because I could do it better,” He grumbled out, growing more defensive and snooty as he went. But, his mother’s chastising ‘Brendon!’ made him huff and throw a bit of a fit as he corrected; “Fine! You’re hair looks beautiful! All shiny and masterfully combed by a true barber hair cutter!!!”

is mother finished his hair and tapped him on his shoulders to signal for him to get up. Brendon reluctantly did so and ventured out from behind the wall divider to return to his bed, sitting down at its edge. He wasn’t able to feel much worry or apprehension because Josuah was immediately re-entering, and after giving him a daring glance his familiar defiantly announced, “I brushed my hair”.
“Oh, so you did,” His mother returned, pleasantly surprised, but Brendon just glowered at him. She gave him compliments while he just silently fumed. “Well, I think you did a good job. It was quite all a-tangle before, I was worried how I would get some of the knots out.”
“I think it looks stupid!” Brendon declared, brattily, and his heated remarked earned a surprised look from his mother, who had never seen or heard him outright insult someone else before.
“Brendon!” She chastised him right away, and it was annoying, causing him to huff and cross his arms over his chest. “It doesn’t, and that was rude.”

is mother was completely confused, but Brendon knew that she would have no idea what he was going on about, or why. She didn’t know that he and his familiar were speaking telepathically to one another, and he didn’t want to tell her. “Well… that’s fine,” She told him haltingly, but was fussy over their meeting with his grandfather, so she was the one who ultimately denied him what he wanted. “But not this time, next time, all right?”
‘If you won’t give me what I want… then I won’t comply either,’ Josuah spoke to him, making it difficult to focus on the conversation with his mother. ‘I’ll do my own hair.’
‘No, it’s either me or my mom! You’re not allowed to do your own hair!’ Brendon huffed back at him, still fuming, and feeling a bit cocky about his “orders”. ‘Only masters can!’
Brendon had sat back in the chair once more, slouching down, and glowering into the mirror, but his mother had taken that as his reluctant acceptance of her proposition.

‘
I’m still here,’ Josuah’s voice came in strong, surprising Brendon somewhat. He had thought they had lost their ability to communicate. His familiar’s next words came forcefully, ‘I want to be the one to brush your hair’, and Brendon immediately reacted, making a face in the mirror, his cheeks darkening as a flustered and frustrated feeling bubbled to life within his petite form.
‘Brush my hair!’ Brendon replied right away, fuming. ‘I —I’m the master! I… I’m going to brush your hair!’
“What’s wrong, sweetie?” His mother asked him, spying his disgruntled and red-faced expression in the mirror, and looked quite perplexed. “I think your hair looks very nice,” She sounded a little taken aback, obviously misunderstanding his expression as being a reaction to the hairstyle she had given him.
“N-No, it’s…!” He fumbled out, faltered, and puffed his cheeks out, his heart beating quickly. “I—…! I’ve just decided!” He almost exclaimed in a huff, sitting more forward, and straight as a board, within his seat. “I’m going to do my familiar’s hair!” He said aloud but also channeled it through his mind, giving Josuah a taste of his own medicine!

‘
In the future… I would like permission to,’ Josuah’s voice filled his mind once again, but this time seemed to trail off. As Brendon stared at himself within the mirror, a grumpy pout set on his features, and his face a little red, he began to wonder if his familiar had moved too far away. Maybe he couldn’t talk to him anymore.
‘Josuah?’ He asked tentatively, trying to find him in the distance.

osuah stepped before the wall divider to peer over the top, gaining both Brendon and his mother’s attention. The sight of him, when he had, maybe, been yearning for his closeness, caused Brendon to smile up at him. Although, he became noticeably pink in the face, and lightly twitched, as soon as Josuah’s voice filled the inner chambers of his mind; ‘I won’t be long’.
‘Okay…,’ he returned with clear reluctance, but did find comfort and happiness in Josuah’s decision to privately speak with him, even if it was embarrassing and invasive. His mother hadn’t suspected anything more than Josuah briefly lingering, because as he left the room she simply turned her attention back to him and his hair.
‘Can… you still hear me?’ Josuah filled his head again a moment later, and Brendon returned a ‘Yeah’ in affirmation. The sensation was strange, but neat at the same time, being able to talk privately like this. For as much as it was embarrassing, he also was starting to really like it.

smirk briefly graced Brendon’s features, smiling back at him within the vanity’s mirror, when he heard Josuah’s immediate response. A feeling of satisfaction settled into him at the thought of the wolf familiar also having to go through the same pampering ritual. His mother’s expression had become strained again as she slowly brought a large brush through his hair and then used some product to keep it from being statically charged.
“Josuah,” His mother spoke up after a brief pause, and the sound of his name of her lips felt… foreign. “Hurry and change into your new clothes. You may use the restroom in the hall. Then, I will see to your hair.”
Brendon’s smirk had faltered, and as he stared passed himself in the mirror, and toward his mother, he suddenly had an unpleasant feeling within the pit of his stomach. He wanted to request that he be able to do Josuah’s hair, but the timing was obviously not appropriate. He felt anxiety and anxiousness over the fact that they were going to be speaking with his grandfather, and it made him… want to be closer to his familiar, and feel his comfort. The emotion washed over him as a loneliness, and he felt a bit embarrassed and silly for it. Yet, still, it remained.
