Welcome to The Duality of Man, an original animanga role-play that features numerous supernatural creatures. Unfortunately, these various species have distanced themselves because of the war that occurred thousands of years ago, plaguing some with eyes that only see their dualism. While others meddle themself with their differences, two groups fight, each attempting to eliminate the other in for their definition of worldly peace. These two groups of the Terror Response Syndicate (TRS) and the Assembly of Phantoms (AP). With individuals fighting merely over their differences, it brings uncertainty to the outcome of this war.
We happily accept all role-players as long as they obey the rules and are capable of meeting our word count of 50. This does include those who are unfamiliar with this style of role-playing. The staff of The Duality of Man are willing to happily help those who are new to the role-playing world so they feel comfortable on site. Feel free to message the staff if you need help, they can be found here or in the site Discord and will gladly answer questions alongside calm concerns. If you have any suggestions we would love to hear them; guests may use the support board as a suggestion area as well. Should you decide to join, may I say welcome to the site and we all hope you enjoy your time here.
Yours Truely,
The Staff

Summer 2024
Heat has broken through into a glorious summer. The snow has entirely dried through the spring, leaving to the brilliance of the warmer months. Terror activity has risen as people are brought out of their homes, leaving the TRS in a position of consistent work. Each are attempting to maintain victory in the endless struggle for power.
Since the wonderful members of TDOM enjoy the site enough to play around on it, this thread is to assist with the site's tidying! Functionality is important and we want to make the site functional even if its activity will be minimal at best!
The daycare's recent event proved to be running excellently. They commandeered a few volunteers for the event to assure the children would be thoroughly tended. The event itself was, in a way, an advertising campaign to gain support from those within Lorsette. They offered varying games for children to play, everything steadily set up to confirm happiness for the attending children. The games were larger to organize and designed to teach crucial values to the attending children while bringing them some enjoyment.
The crucial mixture of fun and learning would hopefully ingrain the well-needed values into the brains of the attending kids. A majority of Moriarty's time was spent in the thick of the event, helping with children and soothing anyone who missed their parents. Unlike a majority of the days where he worked half the time, the weekend event would be one of Moriarty's few full-time days. A broad grin stretched across Moriarty's lips as he watched one of the children who was freshly comforted scurry back towards the group to continue in the event.
The dark-haired man's hands stationed themselves on his lips as he oversaw everything. A few of the volunteers had retreated to the sidelines for a quick break before continuing to keep up with the energetic, happy children. Around him, the kids giggled as they ran around, playing a scavenger hunt game with a promise of a candy prize for all participants. Amidst the scurrying children and following volunteers, somebody noticed a few missing children and a volunteer. One of his coworkers approached him, tapping on his shoulder.
The bespectacled man turned, a smile on his face as he waved at one of his friends. His coworker waved back, gesturing for him to follow to a quieter, easier to converse location.
"Mori? Have you Rosy and her friend? I cannot seem to find them anywhere and I'm supposed to host the next event," he asked softly.
A soft 'hmm' left Moriarty's lips as he shook his head. Between everything that happened and the wildness of the event keeping track of everyone proved a little difficult. In this circumstance, his coworker needed him, thus he began thinking about where the children could have possibly gone. The bespectacled man doubted they left the premises.
"I haven't, but I'll go inside and see if maybe they went inside. You just worry about your event, Kai. I'll find 'em," Moriarty responded with a smile.
"Thanks, Mori! Let me know if you find them," Kai said, relief leaking into his words.
The dark-haired man turned away, heading towards the daycare's main building. Slowly, he pushed through the door, his eyes scoping the children who were inside, enjoying their arts and crafts. Among them, Moriarty failed to scout the redheaded youth and her one friend. A gentle 'hmm' hummed through his lips as Moriarty strode further inside, checking around the corners until his eyes landed on the small, quaint kitchen. The black-haired man walked towards the kitchen, slowly opening the door and heading inside where he finally discovered a pair of children and one of the volunteers.
"There you two are," he began, letting the door close behind you. "What is everyone doing in here anyways?"
Snack time was still a while away and from what Moriarty recalled, the volunteer Isabella, rarely offered herself in the cooking affairs. Thus, discovering the two children alongside the dark-haired woman inside the kitchen was a surprise to the bespectacled cherubim.
The nature of his species leaves Moriarty with an insignificant height of 4’11”. Species-wise, Mori is considered tall, however, compared to the general populace he is frightfully short. He is slenderly built with thin, willowy limbs and long, piano-player fingers. His hands lack calloused and scarring, creating a soft beauty to their general shape and skin colouration. Notably, Mori maintains his nails, each being well-trimmed and filed. Though he wears no polishes or lacquer to his nails, instead of keeping their length and shape in check. Matching his willowed limbs, Moriarty has a slim, fat-lacking stomach. The degree of his thinness suggests a slight scrawniness from instances of forgetting to consume meals.
Atop a slender neck is a pair of semi-plump cheeks that narrowly manage to reach medium height. His jawline is slim, however, fortunately, strong enough for Moriarty to avoid having a double chin. The cheeks are well-filled, making for a rounder face. His nose is small, having the slightest, albeit, difficult to notice upturn. A pair of light brown eyes shine from his face, being framed by a pair of thick-framed glasses. These glasses are black, with large lenses and small white dots going down the sides. From Mori’s head are locks of thick, black hair that are soft to the touch and pleasant to run fingers through. His short hair is wavy, resulting in it getting tangled easily.
As a cherubim who adores summer, Mori is favourable to short-sleeved shirts and shorts. He does despise tight clothing but is one to enjoy a pair of fitting shirts and shorts. In the summer he regularly wears sandals. During the winter months, Mori heavily enjoys wearing thick sweaters, including turtlenecks and warm sweatpants. He adores sweaters and will wear a variety of times in the casual style over anything else.
Love Sensory -- Beginner The ability to sense the love between others and view the strings connecting soulmates. As a child who had parents not a part of the cherubim species, there was nobody to teach him love sensory. Thus, Moriarty has allowed the ability to become another dormant power. Should he attempt it, Moriarty would become easily tired.
Blessings -- Intermediate The ability to bestow blessings of strength, speed, energy, safety, endurance and positive emotions onto others via touch. Inspired by the capabilities of blessings, Moriarty learned a portion of usefulness from his blessings. Primarily, Moriarty has learned the blessings of energy, safety and positive emotions, the remainder being unused and resulting in tiredness should he attempt to use it. Additionally, the potency of the remaining three is not extremely impressive because of his lack of work in his blessings. Oftentimes, Moriarty uses his energy blessings to assist the children in running around and enjoying themselves. Though occasionally, he has assisted friends who struggled in receiving a good sleep to keep them going for the day. Safety was another learned blessing, Moriarty bestowing it unto others to keep others safe. This is regularly done to friends he may be worried about or those he is extremely attached to. Finally, his most used abilities are those to spark positive emotion. Regularly, when comforting a child who is upset to assist in resolving issues easier without emotions blinding explanation. Extensive use of his blessings will eventually tire Moriarty out the longer he uses the blessings.
Charms -- Advanced The ability to create items infused with charm magic to support others. The invention of charms has brought Moriarty an extreme happiness with creating. Oftentimes, Moriarty makes little beaded bracelets that he places charms on to promote positive emotions, safety and other minimal concepts. At times, he will make temperature regulating charms or even consider trying his hand with charms designed to assist with focus. Despite his capabilities, he does struggle with the creation of bound weapons and is not a reliable source for the manifestation of those. Creating too many charms in a single day can result in exhaustion for Moriarty. Over time, his charms, when tired, will become less potent because of his exhaustion. Tiredness from sleep deprivation can have a similar effect on his charms.
Light Force Fields -- Beginner The ability to create force fields that defends others from physical attack, but not from dark magic, such as hexes and curses. Since Moriarty does not work in a combat-oriented job, he has never invested time into learning force fields. In circumstances of using them, his force fields are flimsy, easily breakable and small. They also tend to not to last long because of his inexperience.
Healing -- Mastered The ability to heal the biological condition of others, including injuries and sickness. As a daycare worker, Moriarty has placed effort into learning his healing abilities. Children tend to receive minor injuries in plenty of circumstances. The young man is capable of healing minor wounds and severe wounds, allowing him to mend those injuries smoothly. This operates similarly with sickness, however, Moriarty is less experienced with healing illness. As a result, severe illness may result in exhaustion consuming him. The harsher the wounds and sickness, the more energy the ability will consume from Moriarty to mend these problems. Extensive mendings or healing multiple people will eventually tire out Moriarty. Despite the ability being his, Moriarty is unable to heal himself.
Wing Manifestation -- Beginner The ability to manifest wings in order to fly or defend oneself. Never a fan of heights, Moriarty has abandoned the notion of learning how to manifest his wings. Thus, the ability is considered underused and left alone. Should he try to spawn his wings, it would cause Moriarty discomfort, exhaustion and would not allow him to fly very far.
Naturals: Immortality
backstory
Everything is so perfect, yet, sometimes I feel so sad.
Blessed with a pair of stunning parents with high-paying jobs, a bond formed between an angel and a guardian. A pair of soulmates, their souls shining to one another and their lives intertwined between each other. When they conceived a child, their offspring inevitably gained the species of a crossbreed between soulmated guardians and angels, a cherubim. Forged off the love of his parents and raised around it, Moriarty Brevall’s species fixated on the wonders of love. Through his young life, the dark-haired child was renowned for his broad smile and gorgeous laugh. His presence in the lives of his parents inevitably brought them happiness as they went about raising their child. Their dreams consisted of endless desires to birth and raise their own family. His childhood was covered in smiles, his parents always showering him in their love and affection, circumstances only changing in the wake of bad behaviour. In his youth, Moriarty was a rambunctious and happy child, bouncing around his parents without hesitation.
The start of school featured an adorable, sweet child with boundless energy. From kindergarten, Moriarty began making friends and starting those ever-crucial connections with other children. He grew alongside them, his attitudes and behaviours inevitably formulating from his interactions. Everything inspired his positive mood, from the friends he made to the incredible teachers who touched his life. The first year of school warranted the lessons of working together and forming school connections. The child could happily recite the concepts that brought his friends happiness and would always attempt to bring them a smile. From giving a young boy flowers to finding another’s missing toy, Moriarty proved to be an innocent, helpful child. He fixated on others, building them up and they would return the favour. Together, they traded happiness, built upon it and created something wonderful. It was the perfect life, the type a majority would crave because of the simplicity and smoothness of it all.
Everything was perfect, Moriarty blissfully wandering through his younger years and surviving the natural stresses of school. He was a smart child, capable and happy with a healthy body and mind. Though, everything would change when the dark clouds began creeping in. It began in smaller ways, the types of things capable of being discounted as perhaps an off day. At first, Moriarty began going out less, seemingly struggling to thrive off the social environment he regularly did. It was the initial change, however, given the young teen was handling puberty and school, his parents thought little of it. Alas, everything would gradually become harder to ignore as the days ticked on. Next arrived the lack of appetite, their teenaged son staring at his food for minutes at a time, as though waiting for it to speak before being broken from his seeming trance. He snacked less and less, only coming down and eating smaller portions of his meals than he regularly would.
Despite the changes, their child always appeared to wear a smile, informing them nothing was wrong. Everything was perfect, how could anything ever be wrong? The mask was a strong one, everybody seeing the well-known Moriarty smile and hearing his cheerful laugh. Yet, a clouding sadness existed in his eyes and a lonesomeness infiltrated his laugh. There was something wrong, however, nobody could pinpoint the truth. As high school continued, Moriarty began suffering further struggles. His sleep schedule drifted from the norm, the child struggling to sleep at night and wake up in the morning. On weekends, he spent the entire day in bed, seemingly refusing to leave the home of blankets. His concentration began slipping, showing in struggling grades barely getting into the 60%. There was something wrong with their son, and as a sparking pessimism began rearing its head along with cracks in Moriarty’s visage, his parents decided to take action.
Initially, his parents began taking him to the doctor’s. His physical form was analyzed, his parents believing perhaps their child was ill. However, the type of illness they suspected was not correct. They spoke with the doctor for a while, Moriarty quietly sitting as his parents spoke with the doctor. With their concerns being heard, their physician suggested taking their son to a mental health professional rather than one specialized in the human body. The concern exhibited itself on their faces, however, with limited options and a trust in the doctor, the arrangements were made. Through everything, Moriarty became a quieter teen as his parents attempted to speak with him, understand what was happening in his head. Yet, the child spoke of nothing and instead informed them everything was fine in a meekier voice than his regular, but everything was not... As his mood shifted and his mind changed, he began wondering the point of life, he began thinking himself something abhorrent for being unable to find happiness in everything he was provided. His life was incredible compared to the abused, the ones dragged under and treated like trash... He had no right to be sad.
Appointments were made with a psychiatrist to figure out the differences in Moriarty’s behaviours. The pair talked for over an hour, notes being taken and an understanding being discovered. Gradually, the doctor inched closer to the diagnosage and at the end of everything, his parents were brought into the room. It was stated he wished to run a few more tests to entirely rule out other possibilities. The man spoke in a softer voice as he explained the situation they were in. However, his monster would be given an unconfirmed name as the psychiatrist explained there was a possibility of Moriarty having depression. He assured to state nothing would be confirmed until the tests came back, the man further stating he would assess treatment options once everything was confirmed. Once the test results returned, they became adamant about Moriarty having depression, and everything spiralled from there. The following appointment, they discussed treatment options, mentioning the idea of therapists and activities that could assist to alleviate symptoms. Yet, everything scared the young child thrown into the mental disarray of his illness.
They got him a therapist, they took the suggestions, and despite his pessimism, Moriarty tried everything for his parents. The person he began speaking with gradually manifested a connection between, and slowly those emotions were released. Life became a little easier from there. His parents assisted with the discovery of activities that brought him easement, the young man finding comfort in farming games and simple slice-of-life type entertainment. It began helping a little more. Though, what helped the young man stay on track was inevitably his parents who supported him through everything. A viable support system made the original eggshells path appear clear and sturdy. Nonetheless, the child had his days where things were worse than other days. There were times where his concentration plummeted when the worse thoughts arrived and he stared into the distance, zoning out and thinking. However, there was always someone there to return him to reality. Over time, there were fake smiles, but there were genuine ones as well. Most importantly, there would finally be those good days where everything felt right and he could breathe easier.
Near the end of high school, things only improved as Moriarty met a young Cole Coal. The cheerful side had an upsurge, while not perfectly strong, it was no longer completely overshadowed by the haunting mental illness. Thus, he began making new friends and Cole was among them, however, in a manner that would alter his life. Shortly after becoming close to Cole, Moriarty began falling head over heels over the young man. He felt comfortable around Cole, discovering easement in his presence. Over time, the two began dating, and Moriarty gained another supporter to assist with life-long conditions... and things became a little easier. Nothing was perfect, nor would it ever be, however, with his family and boyfriend backing him, Moriarty could take the steps to support his mental health easier. As graduation arrived, with his own experiences with mental health inspiring him, Moriarty’s passion changed to learning child psychology. Upon graduating, he entered post-secondary education and eventually moved out into a small apartment with Cole. In the name of his occupation, Moriarty got a part-time occupation at daycare while working towards his degree. Despite the perfections of life, stumbles were inevitable, and even during those stumbles, Moriarty had learned to keep going.
As of current, he is about to complete the first 4 years of his doctoral and still plans on accomplishing another 2 years in order to complete the program. His wishes to help others with something he struggled with in his youth motivating Moriarty to proceed forward with his education.
