Welcome to The Duality of Man, an original animanga role-play that features numerous supernatural creatures. Unfortunately, these various species have distanced themselves because of the war that occurred thousands of years ago, plaguing some with eyes that only see their dualism. While others meddle themself with their differences, two groups fight, each attempting to eliminate the other in for their definition of worldly peace. These two groups of the Terror Response Syndicate (TRS) and the Assembly of Phantoms (AP). With individuals fighting merely over their differences, it brings uncertainty to the outcome of this war.
We happily accept all role-players as long as they obey the rules and are capable of meeting our word count of 50. This does include those who are unfamiliar with this style of role-playing. The staff of The Duality of Man are willing to happily help those who are new to the role-playing world so they feel comfortable on site. Feel free to message the staff if you need help, they can be found here or in the site Discord and will gladly answer questions alongside calm concerns. If you have any suggestions we would love to hear them; guests may use the support board as a suggestion area as well. Should you decide to join, may I say welcome to the site and we all hope you enjoy your time here.
Yours Truely,
The Staff

Summer 2024
Heat has broken through into a glorious summer. The snow has entirely dried through the spring, leaving to the brilliance of the warmer months. Terror activity has risen as people are brought out of their homes, leaving the TRS in a position of consistent work. Each are attempting to maintain victory in the endless struggle for power.
Since the wonderful members of TDOM enjoy the site enough to play around on it, this thread is to assist with the site's tidying! Functionality is important and we want to make the site functional even if its activity will be minimal at best!

Alex felt his brother’s arm wrap around him and he leaned into the older boy. He did his best to take a deep breath, but it was shaky. Why was he like tho? Why couldn’t he be normal like the other kids in his classes? He was fully aware of how ridiculous this was, but he just couldn’t still his rapidly beating heart. [break][break] “I don’t know,” he muttered. “I don’t know what I want, I just…” he shook his head. “They were fighting and it was so stupid but I just couldn’t be there anymore. I couldn’t…” he shook his head again. He lifted his head and leaned it into his brother’s shoulder, taking comfort in Lelan’s presence. He had always been good at keeping Alex calm, even just by being there. [break][break] He was definitely glad that he had shown up instead of their mother. “What are you doing here?” he asked softly. “Did the school call you?”

The park was very quiet that day. There usually weren’t many people, but in the middle of a week day it was particularly empty. Not that Alex noticed. He was focused on trying to catch his breath and calm himself down. [break][break] He knew he had overreacted and messed up. His group probably thought he was insane and his teacher would be mad. He wasn’t sure if it had gotten back to his mom yet, but he was sure she wouldn’t be happy about this. He felt like such an idiot for overreacting like this. No one else in his class would ever run out just because their peers were bickering. People argued in his classes all the time, he just usually didn’t have to listen to it. If it didn’t pertain to him he could block it out, as he’d gotten very good at doing in his household. But he’d had to try to mediate and that had been too much. [break][break] He wasn’t sure how much time passed before he heard someone approaching. “Lee?” he asked. He glanced up as his brother sat down near him. “I’m sorry,”he muttered, wiping his eyes with the sleeve of his hoodie. “I’m so sorry.” He wanted to say something else but the words wouldn’t come to him, so he just tucked his head back between his arms. “It was too much.”

Alexander Reed had never really liked school. When he was younger it was a good excuse to get out of the house, but things at home had gotten better without his father there so now school was just a place where he was forced to interact with a lot of people. He’d rather be curled up in bed. That way he wouldn’t have to talk to anyone. [break][break] Today wasn’t the worst. At least, he’d made it through his first few classes without any trouble. As long as he kept his head down and got his work done he was usually ok. [break][break] He only had one more class before lunch, and they were supposed to be finishing up a group project. He made his way to his desk and pulled out the papers they were working with for the project. A few minutes later the two other kids in his group had found him and the bell rang announcing the start of class. [break][break] The first few minutes of class went smoothly, then the two other group members started to argue over how they should lay out the presentation. The room felt like it was beginning to heat up as they continued arguing. "Can’t we just-" he began, but they continued talking over him. [break][break] His nails dug into the skin of his wrist. It was such a stupid argument. There should have been something he could say to get them to calm down. But he couldn’t breath. It didn’t feel like there was enough air in the room. "Guys-" he tried again. [break][break] It didn’t matter, they weren’t paying attention to him. The room was slowly beginning to feel more and more like an oven. He had to be somewhere else. He had to be outside. So, without stopping to grab any of his stuff, he ran out of the classroom. [break][break] He was at the side of a road when his phone buzzed in his back pocket. He pulled it out to see a notification from a friend, but shut it off without reading the message. He didn’t think he could deal with talking to people right now. [break][break] He hadn't even realized he was crying, but his vision was getting blurry. He roughly wiped the moisture from his eyes and tried to decide where he was going. He couldn't go back to class after running out, but walking home would take too long and he didn't really want to deal with his mother yet. He didn't think she'd be happy with him for ditching school. Besides, he didn't want to have to interact with anyone. [break][break] As he passed a familiar street sign, he remembered a park Lelan used to take him to. There was rarely anyone there, especially not in the middle of the week. He made his way there, then found a large oak tree and sat at the base of it. He wrapped his arms around his knees and rested his head in the embrace, blocking out the midday light. Maybe if he willed the world to go way it would. He knew the school would call his mom, but she would be working. He would probably have a while before anyone bothered looking for him.

Alex cringed at the uncertainty of whether this random girl believed him or not. He hates drugs of any kind - especially alcohol - and didn’t want to be the type of person that was associated with them. Plus he really didn’t want to get in trouble over this. He wasn’t really sure what he should do with the cigarettes though. If he threw them away he was sure he’d piss someone off but putting them back felt wrong. It was definitely the morally correct move to throw them out… but would that be considered thievery? And if so would that be worse than letting a habit he knew existed fester and potentially grow? Surely not. [break][break] Despite himself Alex’s lips pulled up into a slight smile at her words. “Yeah, me too,” he muttered. “If only they could just teach classes out here.” Surely that would be better. He still didn’t like interacting with others but if it was outside he’d know he had the space to get away if he needed to and maybe it would be better. Plus, nothing bad ever happened outside. It happened inside, behind closed doors where no one could see. He felt safest he could see the sky. As he gazed up at the open blue expanse now another question occurred to him. “A-are you going back? To class, I mean.” He preferred sticking to himself but this girl who’s face he’d yet to see fully around the building didn’t seem like the overly chatty type. Indeed, she seemed almost as off kilter around him as he was around anyone. That fact was comforting in a way.

Alex heard the door click open and shut a few moments after he'd snuck out and pinched his eyes shut. He didn't want someone else to be around, illicit materials in his possession or not. He took a deep breath before turning to see a white haired girl, probably about his age. [break][break]
Had she noticed him? She had totally noticed him. He could just ignore her like he usually would but what if she reported him? He doubted he'd get in too much trouble, but he'd have to explain himself to so many people, and then his mon would come and be disappointed in him - like she had a right to be disappointed in him - and he'd be dealing with the repercussions for months. [break][break] "I, uh-" he blurted out, then broke off and cringed. He shouldn't have said anything. He didn't recognize her so she probably wouldn't know enough about him to actually report him. It wasn't like he knew what to say either. But now he had to keep talking so he went with honesty. Honesty was always good, right? "Um, that is to say, I... I just found them! They're not mine!" He cringed once more. There was no way that had seemed convincing. [break][break]
"Wait!" he said, trying to distract from the flush building up in his cheeks. This was the last thing he had needed today. "Shouldn't you be in class anyway? What are you doing out here?" In that moment he had completely forgotten that he shouldn't be asking that. After all, it could be reflected right back to him and he wouldn't have an answer. He didn't know why he was out here, he just didn't want to be in there. Then again, with this girl out here he wasn't so sure he wanted to be here either. He wished he could go somewhere no one could possibly follow and just live there until the end of time. That would be easier on everyone.
"How beautiful the leaves grow old. How full of light and color are their last days." ~ John BurroughsIt's autumn again. Soon the leaves will start falling from the trees. Personally I don't think anyone has summed up the season as well as Burroughs. Autumn contains much beauty, but by the end of it all that beauty and color will have given way to the cold of winter. I like Autumn, but I think Winter is the worst. It's cold outside and I always want to just curl up with a book but I'm never able to because I always end up being busy.
This is a letter I know you'll never read. I decided a long time ago that I wouldn't speak a single word to you. That's the best way to keep you from getting in my head like you do with mom. Nonetheless, the thoughts had to go somewhere. Did you know that no one makes me as angry as you do? Try as they might, they've got nothing on you.
No one notices anymore, but I still have scars. I cannot imagine I'd still be here if it weren't for Lelan taking most of the hits. He may have always been a hero, but in me, your youngest son, you raised a coward. I mean look at me! I can't even stand the thought of confronting you in person! I guess I should be thanking you for that, though. I don't need to stand up for myself because you taught me how to avoid trouble in the first place.
...Week after week mom drags me to come and see you and week after week you act like you're a different person. But you can't be a different person. If you could change I refuse to think there was something more convincing than your own children to make you try.
How is it possible that you can talk to mom and suddenly all pain you caused means nothing? People are idiots, that's how. Well I'm not like her. No one can win me over with smiles and pretty words. You made sure of that.
Alex does a few different types of writing so I'm going to add a bit of organization to this as I add more with this fancy little table of contents post!

It had been a long day involving quite a few group projects, and by the time Alex made it to his final class for the day his social meter was pretty full. It was an odd combination of energy from being around other people and exhaustion from actually talking to them that resulted in him feeling completely on edge. [break][break] As more an more students streamed into the class and began chatting among themselves while waiting for class to start, Alex's head began to hurt. There were too many of them, and while he wasn't attracting attention to himself he couldn't be sure that no one would approach him. He didn't want that to even be an option. [break][break] It was about when the teacher came in that it became too much and Alex stood up, getting all of his stuff together. "I'm going to the bathroom." he said by way of explanation, then added a quick "-ma'am." for politeness before slipping out the door. [break][break] The bell rang before he made it to the end of the hall and the few students lingering vanished into their respective classrooms. Alex didn't turn back or stop walking until he got to a door that led outside. Autumn-cooled air gathered around him as he stepped outside and leaned against the wall, trying to slow his breathing. [break][break] Out of the corner of his eye, something tucked into a hollow spot in the stone wall caught his eye. Praying he wasn't about to disturb a spider's den, he reached in and pulled out a pack of cigarettes and a lighter. Someone must have stashed them because they knew how rarely people ended up back there. He flipped the pack open curiously, studying the few cigarettes left inside. Whoever it was had probably smoked the rest of them. That or stolen the box from their parents. Whatever it was, Alex didn't like it. He didn't like drugs or alcohol in general.
