Welcome to The Duality of Man, an original animanga role-play that features numerous supernatural creatures. Unfortunately, these various species have distanced themselves because of the war that occurred thousands of years ago, plaguing some with eyes that only see their dualism. While others meddle themself with their differences, two groups fight, each attempting to eliminate the other in for their definition of worldly peace. These two groups of the Terror Response Syndicate (TRS) and the Assembly of Phantoms (AP). With individuals fighting merely over their differences, it brings uncertainty to the outcome of this war.
We happily accept all role-players as long as they obey the rules and are capable of meeting our word count of 50. This does include those who are unfamiliar with this style of role-playing. The staff of The Duality of Man are willing to happily help those who are new to the role-playing world so they feel comfortable on site. Feel free to message the staff if you need help, they can be found here or in the site Discord and will gladly answer questions alongside calm concerns. If you have any suggestions we would love to hear them; guests may use the support board as a suggestion area as well. Should you decide to join, may I say welcome to the site and we all hope you enjoy your time here.
Yours Truely,
The Staff

Summer 2024
Heat has broken through into a glorious summer. The snow has entirely dried through the spring, leaving to the brilliance of the warmer months. Terror activity has risen as people are brought out of their homes, leaving the TRS in a position of consistent work. Each are attempting to maintain victory in the endless struggle for power.
Since the wonderful members of TDOM enjoy the site enough to play around on it, this thread is to assist with the site's tidying! Functionality is important and we want to make the site functional even if its activity will be minimal at best!

Alexander Reed had never really liked school. When he was younger it was a good excuse to get out of the house, but things at home had gotten better without his father there so now school was just a place where he was forced to interact with a lot of people. He’d rather be curled up in bed. That way he wouldn’t have to talk to anyone. [break][break] Today wasn’t the worst. At least, he’d made it through his first few classes without any trouble. As long as he kept his head down and got his work done he was usually ok. [break][break] He only had one more class before lunch, and they were supposed to be finishing up a group project. He made his way to his desk and pulled out the papers they were working with for the project. A few minutes later the two other kids in his group had found him and the bell rang announcing the start of class. [break][break] The first few minutes of class went smoothly, then the two other group members started to argue over how they should lay out the presentation. The room felt like it was beginning to heat up as they continued arguing. "Can’t we just-" he began, but they continued talking over him. [break][break] His nails dug into the skin of his wrist. It was such a stupid argument. There should have been something he could say to get them to calm down. But he couldn’t breath. It didn’t feel like there was enough air in the room. "Guys-" he tried again. [break][break] It didn’t matter, they weren’t paying attention to him. The room was slowly beginning to feel more and more like an oven. He had to be somewhere else. He had to be outside. So, without stopping to grab any of his stuff, he ran out of the classroom. [break][break] He was at the side of a road when his phone buzzed in his back pocket. He pulled it out to see a notification from a friend, but shut it off without reading the message. He didn’t think he could deal with talking to people right now. [break][break] He hadn't even realized he was crying, but his vision was getting blurry. He roughly wiped the moisture from his eyes and tried to decide where he was going. He couldn't go back to class after running out, but walking home would take too long and he didn't really want to deal with his mother yet. He didn't think she'd be happy with him for ditching school. Besides, he didn't want to have to interact with anyone. [break][break] As he passed a familiar street sign, he remembered a park Lelan used to take him to. There was rarely anyone there, especially not in the middle of the week. He made his way there, then found a large oak tree and sat at the base of it. He wrapped his arms around his knees and rested his head in the embrace, blocking out the midday light. Maybe if he willed the world to go way it would. He knew the school would call his mom, but she would be working. He would probably have a while before anyone bothered looking for him.
The wind softly tousled Lelan's hair between the swaying branches of a tall oak. From his heightened position, the brown-haired man breathed deep, smiling as leaves tickled his cheeks. In his gloved hands were large trimmers designed to remove larger branches. After years of vibrant life, the oak on city property required work to assure the safety of Lorsette's citizens. The looser branches had become damaged, threatening to fall atop those who passed beneath. Thus the young procubus discovered himself hauled into the elegant dance of branches with his bulky tool.
[break][break]
A loud crunch erupted from the branch as he removed it, the piece falling to the ground. The second worker on the job swiftly gathered the branch, hauling it into the back of the truck. The arrival of the warmer seasons would provide ample time for the tree to heal from its safety modifications. Behind the safety glasses, Lelan's eyes flitted through the branches, checking for any other branches of concern. Satisfaction arrived quickly, the procubus nodding to himself before descending from the ladder and returning to solid ground.
[break][break]
"I think that's all of 'em," he commented, glancing at his coworker.
[break][break]
The other male glanced up and down the tree before reaching a similar conclusion. "Yep, let's move to the ne-"
[break][break]
Words were interrupted by the ringing of Lelan's cellphone. The procubus quirked a brow and wondered if perhaps their boss has received more calls from concerned citizens. He grabbed the device from his pocket, however, his confusion only escalated when the caller ID displayed an unexpected number. On his phone read the letters 'LORSETTE HIGH SCHOOL' rather than the company he worked for or his boss' personal line. A frown touched Lelan's lips as he held up a finger at his colleague to indicate 'one moment'.
[break][break]
The procubus knew his mother worked, meaning the call was probably about Alex. However, the older brother fretted upon seeing the school's number as opposed to his brother's cellphone. Furthermore, Lelan was registered as an emergency contact in case their mother failed to receive the call; her work was stricter on cellphone regulations.
[break][break]
"Hello? You reached Lelan, what's up?" He answered, cutting straight to the point.
[break][break]
There was a palpable moment of silence from the other end. "G-good afternoon, Mr. Reed, we... wanted to ask if you knew of any appointments your younger brother may have had? He... walked out of class and has been missing since."
[break][break]
"Excuse me?" The laughable shock hit him hard as he gawked at the situation. "No, he doesn't have anything going on... How did you lose him? ... Actually, never mind that, I'll go find him. He probably got overwhelmed or something, he might be at home."
[break][break]
Before the individual on the other end answered, Lelan hung up the line. Naturally, the older, protective brother felt unimpressed and upset by the school's lack of awareness. The fact his brother could walk out without somebody hindering him was concerning, to say the least. He turned back to his colleague who packed everything up throughout his phone call.
[break][break]
"I have to go, something came up," Lelan told him, his voice breathing frustration.
[break][break]
Silently, the procubus returned to the vehicle, his frustration aimed at Lorsette High School rather than his younger brother. He never blamed Alex for feeling overwhelmed during certain situations... both lived in that hellish home for years and witnessed things no child should bear.
[break][break]
Throughout the drive back to their office, Lelan had texted his brother, 'Hey, Alex? Did something happen? I got a call from the school. Do you need a ride home? I could take you to my apartment too, I just need to know where you are.'
[break][break]
Upon reaching the office, Lelan hastily packed the few things he brought and threw them into his vehicle. Fortunately, on their arrival, his coworker offered to explain the situation to the boss. Nonetheless, Lelan planned to text an apology and explain in full once he found Alex and brought him home. The current emergency would naturally come first with his kindly boss taking the backseat temporarily. Everything hinged on the text message, a return message meaning Lelan could focus his search to his brother's location and silence leaving it to hang.

---------------------------------------
[break][break]
Branches swayed alongside the grass in the familiar park in the northern section of town. A location with a fair distance from the school and an ideal spot for the sanctuary of silence. The older brother parked his vehicle on the street outside before entering the premises, his amber eyes searching for his younger brother. Hands hidden in his dirty work jeans, he began looking around the park, searching for his younger brother. What felt like centuries ago, Lelan had taken his brother here to escape the suffocating home situation.
[break][break]
A deep breath entered his lungs, the familiarity bringing him ease as he gazed around. Perhaps the nostalgia dragged Alex out to ease any risen tensions. Gradually, he searched, taking his time to avoid missing signs of his younger brother. Then, he noticed him, stationed beneath an oak tree, alone. A frown touched Lelan's face as he hurried over, his steps entering a speed walk from nerves.
[break][break]
"Alex? Hey, you alright?" His voice was soft as he approached.
[break][break]
Quietly, the older brother sat down, giving the younger some space for himself. The last thing Lelan wished to do was overwhelm Alex further and provide more reasons for running away.

The park was very quiet that day. There usually weren’t many people, but in the middle of a week day it was particularly empty. Not that Alex noticed. He was focused on trying to catch his breath and calm himself down. [break][break] He knew he had overreacted and messed up. His group probably thought he was insane and his teacher would be mad. He wasn’t sure if it had gotten back to his mom yet, but he was sure she wouldn’t be happy about this. He felt like such an idiot for overreacting like this. No one else in his class would ever run out just because their peers were bickering. People argued in his classes all the time, he just usually didn’t have to listen to it. If it didn’t pertain to him he could block it out, as he’d gotten very good at doing in his household. But he’d had to try to mediate and that had been too much. [break][break] He wasn’t sure how much time passed before he heard someone approaching. “Lee?” he asked. He glanced up as his brother sat down near him. “I’m sorry,”he muttered, wiping his eyes with the sleeve of his hoodie. “I’m so sorry.” He wanted to say something else but the words wouldn’t come to him, so he just tucked his head back between his arms. “It was too much.”
Anger was nonexistent as Lelan took his spot beside his little brother. Any frustration he felt towards the school dissipated upon finding Alexander. He listened to Alex's words, noticing the sheen across his cheeks when he looked up. Slowly, the older brother put an arm around his younger one, gently rubbing his arm to hopefully provide comfort. He favoured his little brother with a light, warm smile. At times, circumstances could overwhelm his younger brother and Lelan could never be upset about it, especially after the homelife they were raised in.
[break][break]
While his younger brother was not exposed as long to the cruel antics of their father, it affected all of them. Furthermore, their mother's foolish actions failed to change anything.
[break][break]
"Hey, you're alright," he responded with a smile. "I'm not mad. Now, what happened Alex? If you don't want to talk about it, we can just sit here for a bit or we could go for a walk, or even go back to my apartment for a bit. It's up to you, okay?"
[break][break]
With how high-emotion his little brother appeared, Lelan knew better than to pressure him into anything. Thus, he left the cards in Alex's hands and maintained a warm expression toward his brother. He wanted to provide the crucial opportunity for the brunette to calm himself. It was a necessity in Lelan's opinion.

Alex felt his brother’s arm wrap around him and he leaned into the older boy. He did his best to take a deep breath, but it was shaky. Why was he like tho? Why couldn’t he be normal like the other kids in his classes? He was fully aware of how ridiculous this was, but he just couldn’t still his rapidly beating heart. [break][break] “I don’t know,” he muttered. “I don’t know what I want, I just…” he shook his head. “They were fighting and it was so stupid but I just couldn’t be there anymore. I couldn’t…” he shook his head again. He lifted his head and leaned it into his brother’s shoulder, taking comfort in Lelan’s presence. He had always been good at keeping Alex calm, even just by being there. [break][break] He was definitely glad that he had shown up instead of their mother. “What are you doing here?” he asked softly. “Did the school call you?”
With a tight grasp around his little brother's arm, Lelan assured to gently rub Alex's arm and lower shoulder. The movements were rhythmic and designed to be calming to the young teenager. Every word was listened to as Lelan remained beside his younger brother. These incidents happened, and they never bothered the bespectacled older brother. If anything, he was determined to be the familial rock Alex needed and deserved. Their mother was foolishly in love with their abusive father, and unfortunately, it meant needing to grow up sooner than he should have.
[break][break]
There were plenty of people who required his attention and reassurance, therefore, he accomplished everything possible. Rather than answer initially, Lelan continued to rub his arm, softening his grip. As the questions arrived, he gave a quiet nod.
[break][break]
"Yeah, they called... but they probably tried to call mom first... I'll text her and tell her I found you," he explained quietly. "I'll also tell her you're not going back to school today, you need some time."
[break][break]
With those words, Lelan fished out his phone, sending their mother a swift text. If she answered or argued against it, the brunette would hardly care. What mattered was his little brother. The child who needed his utmost attention rather than the mother he could deal with later. Once finished, he shoved the phone back into his pocket with no intention of reading the responses until later. For only a moment he paused, thoughts churning.
[break][break]
"Maybe... would you want to walk around for a bit? The park is a nice place to be after all," Lelan suggested, his voice gentle.
[break][break]
There was a chance Alex would refuse, but he hoped to steady his little brother. Once he appeared clear-headed, they could decide what to do next. Whether it was returning to Lelan's apartment or doing other things to distract from what happened, it mattered naught as long as Alex recovered.
