Welcome to The Duality of Man, an original animanga role-play that features numerous supernatural creatures. Unfortunately, these various species have distanced themselves because of the war that occurred thousands of years ago, plaguing some with eyes that only see their dualism. While others meddle themself with their differences, two groups fight, each attempting to eliminate the other in for their definition of worldly peace. These two groups of the Terror Response Syndicate (TRS) and the Assembly of Phantoms (AP). With individuals fighting merely over their differences, it brings uncertainty to the outcome of this war.
We happily accept all role-players as long as they obey the rules and are capable of meeting our word count of 50. This does include those who are unfamiliar with this style of role-playing. The staff of The Duality of Man are willing to happily help those who are new to the role-playing world so they feel comfortable on site. Feel free to message the staff if you need help, they can be found here or in the site Discord and will gladly answer questions alongside calm concerns. Summer 2024
Heat has broken through into a glorious summer. The snow has entirely dried through the spring, leaving to the brilliance of the warmer months. Terror activity has risen as people are brought out of their homes, leaving the TRS in a position of consistent work. Each are attempting to maintain victory in the endless struggle for power.
Since the wonderful members of TDOM enjoy the site enough to play around on it, this thread is to assist with the site's tidying! Functionality is important and we want to make the site functional even if its activity will be minimal at best!
Fresh from the hardships of a mission, Fritz had managed a walk towards the TRS headquarters. The spring weather made for a pleasant walk, a gentle breeze passing through while the sun warmly embraced the earth. As expected, the once pristine surface of his sword covered in the ugly black dust. His uniform had met a similar fate, resulting in the elite hunter opting to change into his regular clothing. Instead of the usual dark with accenting red of his TRS uniform, he wore a simple grey hoodie and a pair of plain blue jeans. Hanging from his shoulder was a black duffel bag that contained his filthy uniform alongside various other items he tended to carry. The sword remained at his side like a faithful companion, awaiting the moment it would be drawn. The following days had drifted by in the usual patterns as he frequently participated hunts and enjoyed the isolation in extensive evenings at home. Although, there was a subtle change in treatment when he wandered the halls of TRS headquarters. A majority of people gave him the regular respectable gazes towards a comrade, but there was the slightest shift.
Occasionally people would witness his passing and it would proceed with several giggles. Others would provide him with a strange sweet smile, some randomly told him congratulations, then others would begin the strangest of conversations involving relationship advice. For the reaper, he could not comprehend the peculiar behavior. It ended with the presumption of it being another strange thing of the modern world. Nobody seemed keen on informing him of what they were congratulating him about. Thus, Fritz attempted to ignore it while he weaved through the halls of headquarters to give his report. He focused on the tapping of his boots on the tiled floor, eyes remained leveled as they scanned the hallways with a neutral expression. There was the unique oddities that he has witnessed through a portion of winter. An inaudible sigh escaped his mouth as he adjusted the grey sweater he wore. After a few minutes of wandering, he managed to pass his report to somebody else which warranted him the opportunity for a break.
Once freed from the binds of responsibility, the reaper hastily made his way through the hallways. A majority of workers may have turned to the cafeteria, but considering his species and the strange behavior, Fritz opted to keep moving. Only a casual gaze was taken through the welcoming double doors to witness the social congregation in the cafeteria. It confirmed what he favored, which simply head outside to be alone. The tall man's long legs granted him speed as he walked through the headquarters to the back door that faced the sparring grounds. His blue eyes gazed over the battle scarred land which bore the torment of numerous sparring parties enacting duel on the rough surface. Slowly, the elite hunter ventured to a bench that remained in the grassy section of the area which would be presumably safe from any noontime sparring.
Currently, the sparring ground remained empty which was likely a result from the water and puddles of snowy slush; a lingering reminder on winter. It made the dirt infested ground muddy and dangerous due to the numerous groves and dents. The reaper stationed himself on the bench, hanging the duffel bag over the back of the wooden surface. Warm sunlight had long dried the any remnants of wet that the wood had absorbed. Swiftly, the leather scabbard was removed and leaned against the bench with the point touching the ground. For a few moments, the elite hunter leaned back on the bench, allowing the warmth to embrace in the wonderful silence of outside. Once the brief relaxation period was completed, the warrior grabbed the handle of his sword and removed it from the scabbard. Numerous black splotches covered the weapon due to the terror altercations of the morning, even reaching down to the sword's pommel.
Carefully, the blade was set across Fritz's lap while he reached back into the duffel bag to grab a rag and small spray bottle. A few spurts of cleaning product were applied to the sword's blade, its owner gently rubbing the soft cloth against the metal surface. While the cleaning proceeded, the hero analyzed his weapon carefully for any nicks or various other damages to the blade. Numerous times the blade required fixing or general reforging despite the meticulous maintenance that Fritz gave the weapon that remained commonly by his side. With blue eyes fixated on the broadsword, the reaper remained mostly unaware of his surroundings while he scrutinized his companion.
it was one of those rare moments where she had nothing to do. it didn't happen often, but there wee times that it did. she made herself busy. she wasn't going to waste her time being bored. there was a list on her clipboard of things she could do or had to do or more likely doing before she got busy and had to leave it. on top of her list was taking inventory and such. eventually she would have to organize things around her station and move out.
she didn't have to worry about the med cabinet having to be organized. everyone did a good job and would tidy it up. after all those seconds matter when you needed to find a certain medicine and fast.
currently she was looking for a ladder. sure she figured she could of used her telekinesis, but it would of taken way too much time and eventually given her a headache. besides she wasn't going to use her abilities for something silly like reorganizing the supply closet. her current mission now was to look for a ladder. she had gotten a few leads. they all lead her to another person and the cycle seemed unending.
while she was on her way to her next lead she spotted a familiar figure sitting outside. they didn't really know each other, but she knew vashti and him were together. even though he hadn't taken her to the ice castle. tsk tsk, she was going to have to scold him about that. completely forgetting about her task on hand she made her way towards him."fredrick how could you?"obviously she knew it wasn't his name. she felt terrible after she called out to him. she at least knew it started with an f. hey she just started to hang around with vashti. fritz would have to forgive her for that. then again they were never were formally introduced.
Meticulously, the warrior worked towards polishing the metal surface of his precious weapon, gradually removing the stubborn black ash. There was peace as he remained stationed on the bench, working towards making his ally maintained for the upcoming battle. When the surface shined as it caught the warm sunlight, a small smile tugged at the usually impassive reaper's face. Joy could always be discovered in maintaining the blade that despite the numerous reforging and repairs had remained close to his side. Even the peculiar behavior of his fellow TRS members could not diminish the content Fritz found in sustaining the strength of his blade. The surface was well-cleansed with the specially made product and his own hard work, but the elite hunter continued running the rag over his blade. Gradually, his blue eyes drifted towards the hilt that still required his attention.
As his cleaning focuses shifted, he detected the faint sounds of approaching footsteps. A glance was taken over his shoulder, noticing the green-haired girl who appeared drew closer. An irritated sigh escaped Fritz's lips as he quickly assumed this was going to transform into another of those strange interactions with his co-workers. Instead of focusing on the concept of cleaning the hilt of his precious blade. When the woman spoke, the reaper's gaze slowly moved towards her with confusion written across his expression. He had never been very understanding of jokes, thus he genuinely thought the young woman was confused.
"I think you have the wrong person," he began. "I am not Fredrick."
There was little that Fritz knew about this individual, although, he was aware that she was a ward medic; Vashti got injured enough times to allow him to grow familiar with the appearances of the ward medics. His gaze soon returned to his sword as he ran the cloth over the hand guard. Although, he remained unaware that he was truly the target of this conversation and had been roped into various rumors. His focus remained as his sword as he continued cleaning it, his ears still focused on what else the woman could have to state.
okay maybe that wasn't the best way to approach the male. honestly she was just winging it. it wasn't like she was upset with him or anything. she had to stop and think why she was calling him out. it seemed like ages, but it happened not to long ago. the ice castle thing. she had bumped into vashti there and danika had been surprised she wasn't there with her boyfriend, francis. no that didn't sound like his name either. how embarrassing. well the times they had been in each other's company she would only get vashti's name. after all she was the patient and the only one she needed to worry about at the time.
the male made her nervous. not in a bad way. just in the way she knew he was better than her. not to say that he was parading around acting like he was superior. she just got that vibe from him. like he was very knowledgeable. so after he told her she was wrong what did she do? she laughed and walked over towards him. she looked at him and nodded."im so sorry. you're not the wrong person."she told him with a small chuckle. "i just don't remember your name."
she stood in front of him. she wasn't going to keep him from whatever he was doing. so long as he paid attention to her. he seemed like the type that could multitask."i can't scold you if i don't know your name right."she told him with a smile. surely what individual would willing give up their name after being told they were going to be scolded. she shook her head."im not upset with you, just highly disappointed."she continued after a few seconds.
"highly unacceptable to leave your girlfriend all by herself. surely you could of gotten the day off."she continued to ramble.
Instead of fixating his attention onto the woman who had disturbed him, Fritz returned to finishing the meticulous cleaning process of his sword. The possibility of the medic truly seeking his attention appeared unlikely given the incorrect name and casual approach. It suggested a search for social interaction, which was a concept the reaper rarely desired. After the correction, the woman remained near, a laugh escaping her lips while the sounds of footsteps on the grass grew louder; it did not appear she has the attention to leave. The apology followed by the mentioning of forgetting his name caused a sigh to escape his lips. It was becoming increasingly obvious that the green-haired woman had intentions to converse with him.
"My name is Fritz," he corrected simply.
There was little emotion to his voice, giving it a colder impression than intended. Afterwards, the ancient warrior returned to giving his broad sword the necessary attention. Patiently, he waited for the stranger to continue with whatever she has arrived to accomplish. The mentioning of a scolding earned Fritz's attention, his blue eyes flitting up from his work towards the peculiar woman who stood in front of him. What exactly had he accomplished to be worthy of scolding? Had avoiding the cafeteria suddenly become another peculiar rule of modern society? An expression of bewilderment managed to claim his usually emotionless face.
"Excuse me?" Fritz responded, genuine confusion touching his voice.
The smile featured across the woman's lips was strange, causing the reaper to furrow his brows; he was clueless to what scold-worthy action he had done. Perhaps this woman was merely confused or recently faced some dramatic event that resulted in a peculiar behavior. As the green-haired female continued, her words continuing to mention a girlfriend, the confusion increased. For a moment, the hero stared at the medic that had confronted him considering he was single currently with no plans to date another individual.
"... What the hell are you talking about?" He began. "I don't have a girlfriend! Hell, I haven't dating anyone for thousands of years!"
There was a slight snapping in his voice, the reaper mildly annoyed from being disturbed with trivial gossip that concerned him. Why would this peculiar woman think that he possessed a girlfriend? It was notion that the ancient warrior had yet to comprehend. All actions taken towards cleaning his sword were ceased, Fritz not realizing the piece of gossip his close friend had put into place.
danika started to pace. she hadn't worded that last sentence right. she gasped softly. what if he thought she meant herself."oh my goodness. im not taking about myself. im not saying im your girlfriend. how embarrassing. oh, not that it would be embarrassing to be your girlfriend. you're quite handsome....i'll be quiet now."she said trailing off as she could feel the cheeks start to flush. she tried to explain and now ended up saying things she wouldn't normally say to a person. for the most part she thought everyone was cute in their own way. hopefully he didn't think she was trying to hit on him or anything.
this was not going according to plan. not that she had planned on scolding him. after all she had been organizing the supply closet. if she hadn't been searching for the ladder she would of never came across him. okay, well maybe not never. eventually the two would have to cross paths. she stopped pacing once she heard his name."again i apologize, better with faces."she told him with a small laugh.
she was glad to know she wasn't the only one confused. with her wilding ramblings she had forgotten what she was going to scold him about. she laughed once more."a thousand years old...oh wow...you're not kidding are you."she said with a surprised look on her face."what about vashti? are you not dating? how could you not take vashti your girlfriend to the ice castle."finally she got to her point.
"that's why im disappointed. you didn't take vashti to the ice castle. you shouldn't be ashamed of your love for each other."she said with a smile.
Confusion orbited through Fritz's mind as this strange woman continued to ramble on about nonsensical topics. There were plenty of people who could have disturbed him, but unfortunately he got stuck with this peculiar woman. The reaper was certain that the woman had mistaken him for another individual, especially since the conversation was related to a love interest. As she continued, the ancient warrior lifted an eyebrow as his opinion of the medic was instantly changed; maybe she was crazy? There was a chance that she was suffering from an illness resulting in mixing him up with another person. The awkward compliment was uncomfortable, the hunter debating the concept of leaving while the woman was rambling on; he was not prepared to deal with this. There was no possible way that he was the person she was searching for to scold.
When the green-haired woman stated that she was better at recognizing faces, Fritz found it difficult not to doubt the concept. After being dubbed several different names and being told incorrect information about himself, the reaper was fairly certain that the medic was immensely confused. The bewildered expression remained on Fritz's usually impassive face since the woman's claims were connected to the numerous peculiar occurrences during work. Perhaps a few people had jumped to conclusion and made a presumption? As the girl returned to the concept of dating, a name was mentioned. Instantly, the ancient warrior glared as he understood what had transpired to create these rumors. While Vashti remained an excellent friend, Fritz could easily piece together that she was the culprit behind this sudden rumor; she had inquired about dating enough for it.
"Vashti?! Did she tell you she was dating me?!" Fritz inquired. "Because I am tell you, I AM NOT IN A RELATIONSHIP WITH HER!"
There were hints of annoyance behind his voice while he sheathed the sword, standing up to place it around his belt. The duffel bag was hastily retrieved afterwards as the reaper prepared himself to find his friend. It remained the primary suspect for this suddenly sparking rumor towards his relationship status. Irritation was displayed in Fritz's expression as he stood tall, mentally charting the possible locations of Vashti already. This situation needed to be organized quickly before the rumor could spread further.
how in the world did she end up confusing herself. she needed to slow down. the pacing was not really helping if anything it was making her have to think faster. if that was possible. so many things and scenarios were running through her mind. she needed to slow down. take a breath and start over.
it seemed like she was finally able to get to her point. though she had taken the scenic route to get to her destination. she had crossed her arms and finally stopped pacing. she wanted to hear his explanation. couples should go out on dates. even if they were part of the trs, they had some downtime...sometimes. anyways the reaction wasn't one she had hoped for. what the hell. okay she wasn't entirely at fault. danika had assumed they were dating. after all they seemed to be so close. every time she said fritz and boyfriend in the same sentence it was never denied."are you for real...."she felt like an idiot.
"oh, well i just assumed. you were always with her when she needed patching up. not that's justification for assuming. i thought it was rather sweet you were looking after her."she didn't want to get vashti in trouble. though she knew that vashti never denied the relationship."ah, i mean you are clearly extremely upset that i assumed you were in a relationship. i am so sorry."she said feeling embarrassed she had gotten their relationship confused.
Frustration began flowing thick through Fritz's veins as his eyes narrowed at the green-haired medic. Already his assumptions were pointing fingers towards Vashti; the woman was constantly attempting to create a relationship between them despite his dismay. While, admittedly, he found his friend to have an alluring appearance the reaper always refused the connection between them. There were already numerous individuals taken from him, thus his thoughts continued to insist against the world granting him a soulmate. They were merely friends, it was bound to be the destiny the pair faced; there would never be something more between them. The notion of them being soulmates was always dismissed despite Vashti's insistence since the ancient warrior failed to sense the pain the woman endured. Although, the discovery of this belief explained the peculiar behaviour of his fellow TRS agents.
Being in the TRS for an extensive period of time made Fritz notorious among a majority of agents, thus they would gleefully bite at the juicy gossip of him possessing a lover. The apology failed to sooth the grumpy reaper, a sigh of annoyance escaping his lips as he attempted to feign composure.
"We're friends! That is all, nothing more than that," he muttered back to the confused woman. "Next time, you should ask first since I don't appreciate this spreading like wildfire!"
Annoyance began leaking into his sentences again, the ancient reaper finding it difficult to maintain a calm vestige in the instance. Time would be wasting clarifying his relationship with Vashti, which was already a headache for the man who preferred to spend hours outside training his swordsmanship. In a hasty movement, he turned away from the green-haired woman without providing a farewell; dealing with the issue now was better than later after all! His sheath and duffle bag bounced against him while he moved, the reaper continuing to stride smoothly despite the heft.
she had stopped with her pacing. she remained still and silent as she waited for the aftermath of her words. she didn't understand how this would get around. the only person she had talk about their relationship was vashti herself. unless...she tried to recall a past event or a past conversation.
it seemed like the one that was getting scolded was her."alright."she said softly. she had to assume all responsibility. though she was sure vashti would be getting an earful later."excuse me. i did not spread this around."she said with a frown. she understood his frustration, but at the same time it wasn't that big of a deal. she watched him gather his stuff."do you want me to make a big announcement?"she knew that would make things worse."i hope we can still be friends fritz."she called out after him. she followed him just enough for him to hear her words."i am sorry."
the only thing clear to her was that vashti hadn't corrected her. did he know of vashti's feelings for him? he must of or maybe he was that clueless? she figured playtime was over. she probably gave him more than enough time to get a head start to where ever here was going. she did not want him to think she was following him and with that she went back to her organizing spree.
