grayson zepler tell me reality is better than a dream. general info
appearance First gazing at Grayson makes it incredibly obvious he is a particularly large man. He comes in at a height of about 6’4 and has a pair of broad shoulders. Despite his unhealthy moments, he is extremely fit due to plenty of nights spent exercising to points of exhaustion. The shape of his body oftentimes makes his muscles obvious. The complexion of his skin is particularly fair, although, does oftentimes have lines that denote the fair from the pale. Not being one to expose unnecessary skin has caused a good portion of his body to remain incredible pale. Flaws are a common on Grayson’s skin, particularly on his back due to being the victim of violent beatings. There are some less notable scars on his arms, hands and legs which are mostly the result of fighting for survival or cooking based accidents which occur on rare occasion. The most notable of his scars is the one that claimed his right eye. This scar runs from his forehead, an inch or two below the hairline, diagonally down to his right cheek. A majority of people notice it first when it comes to Grayson’s face, although, when mentioned he will oftentimes get a little upset. As of hair, Grayson’s is usually well-groomed and contains a red colour to it. Usually, his hair is brushed back which results in a few stubborn pieces remaining upright. The back of narrowly reaches the nape of his neck. His eyes are a reddish-brown, at times one colour appearing superior over the other depending on the lighting. It is often noted that his eyes lean more being red over brown. A majority of people tend to notice that Grayson’s eyes often have a tired look to them. There are plenty who comment on it, but this fallen angel oftentimes insists it is merely a bad sleep. He rarely makes eye contact with other people until he gets to know them a bit better. When meeting a stranger, he often keeps a polite smile on his face. For the most part, Grayson’s clothing consists of anything that keeps him relatively covered up, especially around where his most noticeable scars are. This oftentimes means he has a preference for pants and long-sleeved clothing which are usually in plain colours. When making the decision to work his night job Grayson will oftentimes use disguise hexes to alter his appearance and wear a mask on the lower half of his face to make certain nobody recognizes him. Usually, he is kept well-clean and rarely will have a injury with the exception of the odd smaller ones. When returning from his night job, Grayson can be found injured or dirty at times. One of the things he despises the most about his appearance are his black wings that manifest from his back. They are rarely spawned, but are very large and clearly capable of lifting Grayson off the ground. If examined closely, people can notice tiny scars across the entirety of the wing’s flesh. personality
abilities Minor Darkness Manipulation -- Beginner Due to his dislike of hell-based magic, Grayson never touches this ability since he attempts to avoid the using it since he also lacks control in it. This means should Grayson decide to use this ability he would grow tired very quickly. Minor Light Manipulation -- Advanced Since Grayson was formerly an angel with plenty of capability even when it shifted to being minor it only caused him to be extremely skilled. Naturally, Grayson can no longer reach the full capabilities of when he was an angel, but he is slightly more skilled than your average fallen angel. He does need light around him in order to use this ability, but he can manage to take portions from moonlight if desperate. Although, this usually limits the creations to very tiny pieces which he may use as needle-like projectiles. They are very fragile and break easily. Due to only being capable of making small shields, Grayson is unable to stop massive attacks. Hexes -- Intermediate Impart to Grayson heavily frowning upon Hell-based magic, he does not have the greatest capability in hexes. He has worked up his disguise hexes in order to never get credit for the positive events he accomplishes, but they only last a max of 12 hours. Forcing it any longer would likely exhaust Grayson. Teleportation and healing hexes have also been trained up due to their usefulness in helping himself alongside others. Teleportation is not a perfected art and can at times not activate when Grayson is stressed or immensely tired. Healing, despite disliking the required blood, is used frequently to heal himself and others. Grayson can heal about 3 people before feeling exhausted. Anymore would cause the hex to be less effective and would likely cause him to fall unconscious. Blessings -- Advanced After turning into an fallen angel, Grayson worked hard to allow this ability to flourish in order to hold onto that last morsel of holy magic. His blessing can last about 2 hours and, similar to all blessings, are incapable of going to a supernatural level. Grayson can not bless himself, therefore he must give other people the blessing. He is capable of performing 8 blessing, anymore could cause him to go unconscious and be more susceptible to illness for a few days due to the lack of energy. Wing Manifestation -- Intermediate After his wings turned black, Grayson tries to avoid summoning his wings, but does understand the use. Due to the limited use it received since he fell, his control over the ability has decreased. He is capable of using his wings for a long period of time, but is unable to summon them when exhausted, intoxicated or extremely ill. There is a slight pain in summoning his wings due to the ill-treatment Grayson gave them during his transformation. backstory Trigger Warning: Murder, Violence, Abuse It had started with angels and white feathers in the place where sin was nonexistent. Grayson was born in Heaven prior to the War of Traitors. He was an angel, wearing those pristine white wings. When it came to Grayson’s parents they were the perfect examples of angels. They were generous and sweet people who served the picture of purity, Akari. His parent’s loyalties to Akari and insistence on perfect moral behavior were taken to heart and resulted in Grayson striving to be the perfect model of an angel. At a young age, he was good boy and would insist on helping others and being kind and generous to those around them. He felt this made him the perfect picture of a proper angel. Oftentimes, he would avoid troubles with the few usual occasions where he would be scolded which would happen to children every now and again. When the war started, Grayson’s father joined in while the young angel remained at home to assist his mother who lacked fighting adeptness. Partially because he believed it was best and partially because he lacked fighting capability himself. As time went on, Grayson grew curious about Earth, which was a mistake in its own way. One night while his mother rested at the age of 17, the young man left Heaven and descended to Earth to explore. That was when he came across them, a pair of demons and at first the angel was rather frightened, however, they insisted they were friends. They were twins, stating that they had no intentions to join the war. Gradually, they became a group of friends who would meet under the cover of night. Although, Grayson always felt that there was something a little wrong with his actions; certainly making friends with passive demons was not a sin? He considered it not to be, but every time his father returned home for a few days, the young angel would grow concerned. The angry manner that his father would rant about the enemy and especially hell species always made Grayson wonder if he was doing something wrong. What really made the angel feel guilty was when his father would return home with a few burns or other scars from his efforts in the war. Alas, there was his own mental insistence that nothing he did was wrong. A few months later when Grayson arrived in the meeting place he only found a single twin there. When the angel questioned where the twin brother was, the twin merely looked at him with sorrowful eyes and broke into a sob. Naturally, Grayson did his best to attempt and calm the poor demon’s sobs, but loss plagued the poor boy for his twin had been killed in an attack. It had occurred on their way to the meeting place, a forbidden act on both parts. The poor boy felt that he could not return home, thus, Grayson told him to find a place on earth to hide while insisting that he would help. Gradually, it became a game of house as Grayson would sneak out during night and day to cook for his friend and make certain the twin ate. It was where the passion for cooking began as the demon taught him some helpful tips about how to improve his dishes. The angel’s absence was noticed shortly by a worried mother concerned about her precious son. She begged that Grayson told her where he was running off to, but the angel merely stated that his mother did not need to worry about him. He was spending time with a friend of his, somebody who needed him at the moments. Reluctantly, his mother ceased the question asking and allowed her son to continue what he was doing. As time went on, the demon grew attached to the angel who cared for him. Whenever Grayson would attempt to leave, the demon would seem to cling to him and insist that he stayed. There were multiple times that the demon went the lengths of trying to kiss and persuade him into staying with him. The whispers the demon would utter to him, insisting that Grayson would happier here than at home in Heaven with his family. Still being confused about his sexuality at the time, the angel pushed him away whatever romantic attempts were taken towards him. The advances gradually grew more sexual and Grayson began feeling very uncomfortable in his friend’s company. One night was when it began, the demon refused to let Grayson leave and thus began possessing him when it was required. That night, Grayson did not return home which left his mother extremely concerned. She was wandering around Heaven asking if anybody knew where her son was, but nobody did. Nobody knew about the secret, the forbidden act. When the angel’s father returned home, he found his wife a sobbing mess in the chair and she appeared to be thinner. Barely, was the woman able to tell her husband that their son had gone missing and nobody knew where he was. His father comforted her, insisting that he would assist in the efforts to find him. With that, Grayson’s father was on a mad search to find his son. Meanwhile, the angel had been whisked to cabin deep into a lush forest, obscured from view because of the tree branches. Grayson was locked away and told that if he failed to keep the demon happy, he would undergo punishment until he learned. At first, Grayson was fine until his former friend began becoming more particular. One day, the angel refused the demon’s sexual advances, which caused his friend to grow angry. In a few moments, the demon was kicking and screaming at Grayson demanding to know why he was not good enough for him. There was no fighting back, the angel taking each kick and each word of hatred the demon slung at him. Grayson was told that he was worthless, that he was lucky his friend had not killed him and that he should learn to be obedient. Eventually, Grayson was sobbing and begging for his friend to stop, of which the demon did. With an angry glare and huff, the demon told Grayson that he was pathetic and left him to cry on the floor. As time went on, the angel decided it was best to give in and listen to the demon’s commands. It was all he could do to make the pain stop, but it was never enough. Beating gradually grew daily, turning Grayson meek and timid in the demon’s presence. His will grew weaker and he became wrapped around the demon’s finger like a ring. One of those beatings resulted in the scars on Grayson’s back. Perhaps unfortunately for once, what is lost is always meant to be found. Despite not finding his son for a year, his father remained determined and was certain that he was out there somewhere. He would constantly take search parties, despite being told that his son was likely dead or somebody forever missing. It has started with injury reports informing about a cabin in the woods and an angel that fit his son’s description alongside a demon who appeared to be manipulating him. That was when his father took a group and went to the cabin to find the demon in the middle of beating his son. The demon was displeased and spawned a shield while he began to get to work activating his puppet. As though under a spell, Grayson rose despite his wounds while the demon grabbed the sword they had and gave it to him. The angel, sword in hand was prepared for be the demon’s combat puppet. The soldiers were left uncertain on how to deal with the situation since they did not desire the possessed angel. It transformed into a complex battle as the angel attacked his allies and they attempted to not harm a child of Akari. There was a point where one of his father’s friends got corner, desperately swinging and leaving the scar on Grayson’s right eye. Due to the demon’s control, the pain was of little effect and Grayson killed the man right there and then. Eventually, the remainder of the guard subdued Grayson while his father killed the demon which ended the possession. Afterwards, the father approached his son who became very upset and began repeating apologies almost as though he could not stop. Instead of responding with words, his father hugged him with tears in his eyes. It was not long until Grayson hugged his father back, happy to be around a family member again, however, the scars did not end there. The wound on Grayson’s eye was never healed since the teen insisted that nobody was allow to heal it. A permanent reminder of his sin since in his weakness he had killed someone. He had met with the enemy and gotten himself captured and made himself a burden. He had worried his parents with reckless choices. It all suddenly weighed on him, what his actions had brought about. If he had never allowed his curiosity, the original forbidden act, get the best of him this would not have happened. If he had kept his will strong, he would not have fallen victim to the demon’s nefarious plans. He had been weak and committed sin due to it, didn’t that make him a sinner? Did he truly deserved the loving embrace of Heaven’s light, to be surrounded by a kind family and to remain here? The moral questions changed the angel, and as time went on, changes progressed. It started with small things, certain abilities acting out. When he tried to manipulate electric currents, they often refused to be manipulated. Healing gradually became none existent, which was definitely an oddity. Then, he began becoming unable to even create holy water, which was beginning to confuse him. His parents were concerned that they knew, but for the time being they insisted on Grayson just being ill. As time went on, thoughts of guilt began to consume the young angel as he constantly remembered the faces of those he injured and the man he killed. He remembered whenever he looked in the mirror, seeing the jagged scar that maimed his eye. Killing a fellow angel was definitely a sin, that angel was merely attempting to help him as well. Was he… falling off the path? The path of light and goodness that has been set for all of Akari’s children. The concept shook him, Grayson shoving it away and not informing anybody that he believed he had committed a sin for not being strong enough. He became withdrawn and would spend hours alone, often locking the door as he checked his feathers for signs of darkness. As time progressed, his more angelic powers began to grow weaker which caused him to panic. He would spend hours mumbling to himself, trying to convince himself that he was not a sinner because he was possessed, but it all ended with him being one for not being strong enough. The day he sprouted the first black feather was when Grayson became upset, insisting it was a paint based accident despite not being near paint. He did not want to believe the truth, the idea of being a fallen angel. His father had stated that they were sinners and evil creatures that Grayson should never associate himself with. As time went on, more black feathers appeared and Grayson began never displaying his wings do to them. There were too many for him to pluck out and pretend never existed. He spent hours in his room, shaking as he remained curled up on his bed in denial. It was not long until his parents came to speak with him, but Grayson was mess. He would incoherently sob about something and his parents were having difficulty understanding what was wrong with him. They kept trying for several days, but at the time Grayson was unable to tell his perfectly angelic parents. When his wings became pitch black was when the fallen angel realized he had to tell his parents. It had began in them insisting against the idea, figuring that it was due to his sudden weakness in certain abilities. That was when, Grayson summoned his transformed wings as proof to his new status. His mother was stunned, hands covering her mouth while tears sliding down her cheeks. At first, his father did not know what to way. The son he had put so much effort into finding had now transformed into something he despised. It was not long until the reaction of anger was taken by his father as he slammed Grayson into the wall, hitting him. To his father, there was nothing wrong with hitting a sinner. When his mother realized what was going on, she rushed forward to try and stop her husband, but he was too strong. Eventually, she was left crying and begging him to stop hitting her son. When the beating was finished, his father declared them a pair of sinner and went downstairs where he resulted to alcohol to cope with the concept. In the meantime, Grayson’s mother began tending to her son’s wounds and trying to calm him down after what had occurred. His mother was the only person who treated him similarly to how he was treated prior to the transformation, however, it was obvious that she would avoid eye contact with her son. It was a sign of shame. His father’s treatment changed radically as he insisted that Grayson never leave the house. The manner his father gazed at him was one of pure hatred and at times, his father would hit him, stating that he deserved it for his sins. It became evident that Grayson was not welcomed in Heaven, since when he was finally allowed to leave the house, everybody glared at him. He was a fallen angel, he did not belong in Heaven’s light. Eventually, the day came where Grayson decided that he would not remain in Heaven and continue upsetting people. He packed a small back of his own belongings and left home, leaving a note stating how sorry he was. Heaven was left behind, and Grayson descended to Earth where he decided to remain. He ran away, knowing that he did not deserve to bathe in Heaven’s glorious light and to walk amongst the pure. In Grayson’s mind, he was nothing, but a monster who did not deserve love nor attention. He needed to repent for his signs caused by his lack of strength. Despite the waging war, Grayson traveled Earth and insisted on helping people wherever he went in order to repent. He would cook meals for hungry wanders, assist in fending off nasty bandits and doing various other menial tasks. Shortly, Grayson began training in the arts of fighting in order to defend other people and those around him. He grew surprisingly talented and found himself enjoying the concept of helping people, but he still felt the sins crawling down his back. Grayson believed he was still a sinner and would never deserve to be an angel again. Eventually, the War of Traitors came to an end and the young found himself being able to travel more peacefully. Something about Heaven and Hell being closed was oddly comforting, since Grayson believed that at least he would get less of those hateful stares and not meet people who knew him. It made him feel more comfortable on earth and gradually the young man began settling into his new surroundings. At the start he worked some odd jobs and used the money he earned to travel freely and see what earth could provide. He began to become entranced with various cultures and his love for cooking thrived in the diverse world that challenged his skill. Grayson became more skilled in the area, but alas found himself enjoying simple meals, things that did not require elaborate set ups. Thus, he began favoring the simple, although, he did enjoy the odd challenge every now and again. For the most part, this assisting in funding his travels for a while and gradually Grayson ended up in Canada where he shortly made his way to Newfoundland. Around the time he arrived to Lorsette was a little while after Zeredah began explaining her revolution and the initial attack was won. Grayson noticed the concerned people and how people were shaken by the idea. This confused the fallen angel who had not heard anything about Zeredah due to his constant traveling. Eventually, he heard about everything that occurred and the unsettling truth about another great battle coming to earth. For a while, Grayson remained in Lorsette while he took in the information he had been given. Gradually, he decided to permanently settle in Losette and assist in the efforts in his own way. Grayson refused to join the TRS and instead work towards assisting the citizens while keeping his name unknown. He considered this an excellent way of repentance, to never be given the credit for his heroic deeds. He disguised himself with hexes and under the cover of night would defeat terrors or apprehend criminals in order to keep the streets safer. For a while he did various jobs, earning himself enough money to purchase a small diner he named The Golden Spoon. This has become Grayson’s way of earning money.
