Welcome to The Duality of Man, an original animanga role-play that features numerous supernatural creatures. Unfortunately, these various species have distanced themselves because of the war that occurred thousands of years ago, plaguing some with eyes that only see their dualism. While others meddle themself with their differences, two groups fight, each attempting to eliminate the other in for their definition of worldly peace. These two groups of the Terror Response Syndicate (TRS) and the Assembly of Phantoms (AP). With individuals fighting merely over their differences, it brings uncertainty to the outcome of this war.
We happily accept all role-players as long as they obey the rules and are capable of meeting our word count of 50. This does include those who are unfamiliar with this style of role-playing. The staff of The Duality of Man are willing to happily help those who are new to the role-playing world so they feel comfortable on site. Feel free to message the staff if you need help, they can be found here or in the site Discord and will gladly answer questions alongside calm concerns. If you have any suggestions we would love to hear them; guests may use the support board as a suggestion area as well. Should you decide to join, may I say welcome to the site and we all hope you enjoy your time here.
Yours Truely,
The Staff

Summer 2024
Heat has broken through into a glorious summer. The snow has entirely dried through the spring, leaving to the brilliance of the warmer months. Terror activity has risen as people are brought out of their homes, leaving the TRS in a position of consistent work. Each are attempting to maintain victory in the endless struggle for power.
Since the wonderful members of TDOM enjoy the site enough to play around on it, this thread is to assist with the site's tidying! Functionality is important and we want to make the site functional even if its activity will be minimal at best!
Amidst the social aggression of the gangs, things were best described under the vague moniker of different compared to time spent alone. The instant she exited Battleaxe grounds in trade for the western sector of Lorsette, Naomi noticed the shift in the atmosphere. Fewer people littered the streets, but conversation occurred without an abrupt ‘FUCK YOU’ or ‘I WILL BEAT YOU TO A BLOODY PULP’! Although, for a moment those words from summer sweethearts quieted when the beast-like creature strolled past. Most people reacted negatively to her presence because of her appearance.
[break][break]
Sharpened teeth, a daunting tall figure with a muscular frame displayed through the ripped sleeves of her black vest. Furthermore, her purple complexion and large snout only increased those monster-qualities. Exemplified by her lizard-like eyes, immense height and thuggish fashion style, most people were hasty to display concerns. Fearsome in multiple traits, it kept people from attempting to gain closeness with the beastly woman. She proved overwhelmingly aggressive and at times, downright short-tempered towards others.
[break][break]
The duties of a leader maintained the fierce attitude roaming her veins and infecting her brain. The guarded nature of her exotic yellow eyes suggested a guardedness, yet, hidden by the shock value of their peculiar shape. With hands hidden inside the large pockets of her ripped-at-the-knee jeans, the young woman proceeded forward without batting an eye to those around her. Throughout her childhood featured the similar wayward glances of selfish worried followed by profound gossip. People were a talkative breed and would cast their shadows on the more peculiar with haste.
[break][break]
In the heat of the summer sun, Naomi had escaped the loudness of the gang for a breather. Despite her love for the Battle Axes, everybody required a moment to breathe. They became a family to Francisca and herself, but it never changed the fact of family members needing a break. Rambunctious and fight-hungry, at times Naomi needed a lonesome escape from the violent world of running the Battle Axes. A stroll through the streets appeared attractive as a result, leaving the young woman ignoring unfounded criticism or baseless "facts".
[break][break]
Alas, avoiding those words felt impossible given the hot weather inevitably dragged people from the depths of their homes. In addition, a soft, cooling breeze rustled trees and whistled through buildings. A gorgeous day for citizens to escape the shaded areas of their air-conditioned homes and enjoy themselves. Yet, the magnificent weather would continue to keep people away from one location, Hell's Gate. A majority of people avoided the infamous gate, especially on a summer's day where only a breeze staved the heat.
[break][break]
Further, into the western section of Lorsette, the golem delved. Thoughts of Francisca's whereabouts roamed her mind as a natural concern for her little sister entered her head. Somewhere, their parents were searching for them, attempting to discover their location to wreak bloody vengeance upon them. THE PAIR COULD ARRIVE WHENEVER THE FUCK THEY WANTED! Their entrance into Lorsette and search for Fran was the opportunity for Naomi to complete her revenge against her horrible parents. They were murderers, cruelly disposing of her life without a second thought!
[break][break]
They never desired children, merely had them because of their foolishness then refused to hand them off to kinder guardians. Together, their so-called parents trapped them inside a house of booze, drugs and sex until their grandparents played the hero. Inside her pockets, Naomi's fists clenched, her brow lowering, but hidden behind the wild locks of royal purple hair. When the time arrived, she planned on fucking them up and sending them straight to the grave! The distraction in the woman's thoughts kept her from noticing Hell's Gate until she crossed the shoddy alleyway leading her to the large, double doors.
[break][break]
Quietly, she turned off the road, hoping to distract herself with something else before she ended up full-strength punching a wall. Chances were, people would not appreciate the property damage and hand her heaps of trouble. She approached the tall gate, yellow eyes glancing over darkened metals composing the gate. The infamous Hell's Gate was reduced to living out its days in a tiny alleyway, permanently locked and lonesome. As the heat surrounded her, it tamed her anger as she pondered for a moment the land her previous species was associated with.
It was the only thought in the tiny corgi shifters mind, as the group of various creatures chased him down. He should have realized, he should have known better. Hell's Gate was no place for the likes of him. He had just wanted something to eat. It had been days since his last meal, and the homeless people always said that the Hell's Gate had some of the best dumpster diving in the city.
RUN
And now he was running for his life, as jeering, shrieking demon-kind chased him down; sticks, rocks, and various debris flying through the air, sometimes missing him, sometimes striking and eliciting a sharp yelp.
FASTER
He tried to pick up his pace. Tried to make his tiny legs move faster. He could take human form, but he was even slower in that form.
FASTER
He skidded around a corner, slamming snout first into hot metal, the smell of his own urine reaching his nose, as terror filled him, knowing he was caught. Knowing he was going to be beaten, maybe even killed.
I'M GOING TO DIE
As the thought crossed his mind, the fear left, replaced, by acceptance.
Over the dark metal-worked frame, Naomi’s purple eyes traversed. The wrought metal accompanied by the profound warmth were always those familiar signs of a gate long condemned. The land of fire and light became associated with her former species, a peculiar thought given the boogeyman’s inability to handle burns. Through the years, Hell’s Gate transformed into a mockery of its former self. A creation used for challenges of courage and horrifying ghost tales. People fancied villainizing the gate, a far cry from the seemingly endless worshipping of Heaven’s gorgeous creation.
[break][break]
A sigh escaped the young golem’s lips as her eyes pulled away. Despite the fear surrounding the large doors, that was all Hell’s gate became; two large, forever-closed metal doors. Fortunately, close proximity to the gate would give her a special type of privacy. Few people dared to venture close, allowing her silence away from her home and the people in the Battle Axes. The golem rested her shoulders against the stone walls of the alleyway. Meanwhile, her eyes traced the lines of the adjacent wall, allowing her head to become blank at the moment.
[break][break]
Unfortunately, Hell’s Gate could stave no wayward souls as the sounds of steps followed by the skittering of terrors’ claws caught the massive woman’s attention. Instantly, her gaze left the endless cascade of measured lines in favour of the alleyway’s mouth. From her position, perhaps she was unseen, the shade of the alleyway keeping her hidden as a small pup slammed into the metal gate with terrors hot in his trail. Her eyes narrowed as the ugly creatures moved in on the helpless animal, preparing to commit to their kill. That was not going to fucking happen.
[break][break]
Her gracious friend, the axe strapped to her back escaped its binds as her strong hand tightened around the handle. Weapon drawn as terrors lifted their ugly claws, Naomi struck. In a single harsh strike, her axe came down, blade creating black dust as it sliced through the terror’s hand.
[break][break]
"Pick on someone your own size, asshole!" She shouted, hints of a growl entering her throat.
[break][break]
Her axe retreated, the mighty dinosaur-like woman bringing it back to swipe out at the nasty creature. As the hefty weapon moved, her muscles rippled beneath her clothes, showing off the strength granted to the golem. A strength beyond that of regular humans activated to protect the unfortunate pup who entered the alleyway.
He braced for Death, and found that life stubbornly chose to cling to him. The axe glinted, as it retracted towards the creature that had saved him. He could only cower, terrified, as he realized what exactly had been chasing him. He had thought they were demons, or another hell species, but he hadnt taken the time to look at them and figure out what they were, when he started running.
He pressed himself against the hot metal of the gate, it burned, but not badly. His fur didnt even singe. He could only watch, and hope, while this person fought the terrors. His Corgi form was useless in combat, and what was worse, his human form was even more useless, at pretty much everything.
His nose brought in scents. The creature, person, thing, fighting the terrors, was made from...something strange. It was alive, but also not, but it wasnt an undead like the Liches he had encountered. He could only pray to whatever forces might be listening, that they werent fighting the terrors, so they could eat him themself.
The weighted axe felt natural in Naomi's hand, her closest friend grasped in her calloused fingers. The hisses of the black creatures brought her eyes narrowed. Terrors were always nasty pests, the black shadows or mechanical misfits oftentimes bothering her gang territories. These obnoxious monsters always broke things or attacked people, leaving a nasty mess in the wake of their havoc. If anything, this was a splendid opportunity to get revenge on the little freaks for causing endless trouble for the Battle Axes.
[break][break]
The terrors were meagre troublemakers, dangerous enough, but nothing extreme for Naomi to handle. Aside from the point, the gang leader worked hard to learn how to handle multiple types of terrors. It was a necessity given the group's circumstances and activities. Nonetheless, they were trash easily taken out, especially after one already lost its hands to the edge of her axe's blade. As the terror backpedalled, Naomi launched herself forward, the axe swinging forward with a strength beyond that of a regular human.
[break][break]
The blade tore through the terror, tearing it in half at the torso. The reaching claws of its partner snuck in, her arms facing the weak wrath of its claws. The purple-haired woman jutted her elbow into it, forcing it back before lifting the axe high. In a mighty slam, the axe's head came down on the creature, ripping through it similar to paper. Upon its impact with the ground, the concrete gave way to the golem's might and her enhanced axe; she assured it would not break with her brutish fighting style. Dust scattered everywhere from the pair of troublemakers, coating the streets.
[break][break]
"Obnoxious little fuckers," the golem grumbled before looking at the little corgi. "You alright little guy?"
[break][break]
Slowly, the large woman hefted her axe behind her back, returning it to its station for later cleaning. She strode towards the small dog, eyes checking him over for any injuries. The durability of the woman's body allowed her to avoid a cut from the creature's tiny claws, thus she was uninjured.
King backed away, Fear returned. Death was something he could accept...but what if he was just going to get eaten? What they ate him alive!?
Under normal circumstances, he would have continued on this pessimistic trail of thought. Instead, his hunger, from several days of not eating, chose this moment to show its full strength.
By forcing him back into his human form.
Stark Naked.
Of course, he was cowered into a tight ball. Arms wrapped around knees. Fear was replaced by embarrassment, and shame.
As a Corgi, his looks were stunning. People marveled at him while he moved on 4 legs.
As a Human, he was plain as a loaf of white bread. Not ugly. But not anywhere near the level of attractive most shifters had.
A huff escaped Naomi's throat as she glanced back at the black dust spreading over the stone of the alleyway. Never would she understand the appeal of terrors, if anything, they were brainless servants of Zeredah prepped for sacrifice. Alas, she knew they could accomplish reasonable damage if somebody proved stupid. The reptilian-shaped woman's eyes locked onto the corgi, noticing the canine's fear. Her appearance oftentimes had those effects on those she met. Once a boogeyman, Naomi's body was tailored for the purpose of instilling fright into others.
[break][break]
Promptly, a surprise arrived as the corgi's shapeshifting into something different. From the short, soft-looking fur arrived human skin, revealing a possibility of the young man's species. The small boy had tightened himself into a ball, his fear evident by the manner he reacted. The axe-wielding gang leader merely observed the individual she rescued as he cowered away, concerned about the situation. The plea that left the small creature's lips brought a sigh breezing through her's. The young man's first instinct was to assume she would, after killing the terrors, kill him next.
[break][break]
"Now why the hell would I do that? I just saved your goddamn life, kid," the golem grumbled. "Now why the fuck are you out here naked like this?"
[break][break]
The golem knew shifters and how their clothing returned to them upon a transformation back into their human form, Nonetheless, the large woman unzipped her vest, revealing her undershirt. Despite her persistent requirement for clothes, the large woman offered it to the naked boy in order to cover him up.
King took the vest, slowly wrapping it over himself.
"My...clothes were smelly. And Gross...i...i usually just stay in my other shape."
He had no access to cleaning supplies, so his shirt had eventually just rotted off him, and his pants had become so soiled with the street slop, he had abandoned them.
"I-I'm sorry, I just...People...people are dangerous...and scary...and i dont want to get put back in the foster program..."
He continued to cower, flinching at every sudden noise, protecting his head from an overhand strike that he instinctively expected. He had lived most of his life as a dog. A Badly beaten one. His good experiences with other people could be counted on one hand.
There was something peculiar about the situation Naomi entered. Initially, the powerful gang leader protected a small, corgi puppy running from the dangerous claws of terrors. Now there was suddenly a young man trembling against the heated metal of Hell’s Gate. Animals shifting into humans hardly bothered the golem, it was widely accepted and known by the general populace…. However, witnessing a child of his age covered in filth, lacking clothes, those were foreign concept.
[break][break]
It suggested the possibility of a reckless teenage runaway, somebody lost for an extensive amount of time or grave circumstance. Sheer thought the possibilities summoned anger, almost bubbling over. Alas, she maintained emotional stability in wayside glances as she listened. Her knowledge of his misfortunes was unknown in every capacity with exceptions to visual speculations. The explanation for the severe lack of clothing raised a brow; whoever this was lacked a solution to purchase reasonable replacements.
[break][break]
Though the follow-up words condemned the reality. A sigh crept through her lips as the answer “teenage runaway” became clear.
[break][break]
“So you’re a runaway with no home?” She grumbled.
[break][break]
As a prominent gang leader, Naomi was no stranger to runaways and those down on their luck. Societal misfits with nowhere to go and limited options available. She adopted her fair share into their relatively large family and found them housing within their borders. It became how she found the other furniture pieces in her life, one example being young Xande Ingram.
[break][break]
“So you have nowhere to go?” She asked.
[break][break]
The large shifted positions, crossing her arms as she observed the young man. It sounded as though he exhausted his options, and knowing young runaways, most would not listen to a simple “Go back.”
King was so thrown by the 'so you ran away' accusation, he found himself uncharacteristically angry.
"I didnt run away, they threw me out because they couldnt use me to make money anymore!"
He stopped as he realized he had, while not yelled persay, certainly taken a more firm and aggressive tone. That was bad. "I-I'm sorry i didnt..."
"they kicked me out, and if the foster people get me, they will send me back...i dont want to go back...I...I would rather die than be someone's pet again..."
Assumptions were made about the young boy's disposition. The woman was unfamiliar with the world of foster care, Naomi's family situation fixed with arrangements to live with her grandparents. There were no alternate factors and the social services they did receive were because of their parents wishing to cause mischief. Though, the anger exhibited by the young man brought a surprise to the woman's eyes. A child apart of a broken system, used for twisted means and never thought of at human. There was nowhere for the blond to go.
[break][break]
Quietly, the dinosaur-esk woman listened to the shifter's story. The gang leader released a long sigh before offering his hand to the young man. Those who possessed no home were people with who Naomi could sympathize. She remembered the first days she spent inside Lorsette, struggling to make a living to keep herself and her sister afloat. If she never created the Battle Axes, her family, the woman would have nowhere to go. While she would be required to hold caution in cases of ploys and law enforcement interaction, Naomi had people who could gather information about people.
[break][break]
"C'mon then, if you have nowhere to go, you can come with me," the gang leader grumbled.
[break][break]
Naturally, Naomi would have to inform her people about the new member. The criminal activity would have to remain low temporarily, allowing for those capable of gathering information to accomplish that.
King blinked. The offer was, tempting. He thought back to the last few times he had been offered help, and inwardly cringed. But in his current state, he really had no other option than to hope she was sincere. He was too hungry to shift back, naked because he never really bothered with new clothes, and he was one of those shifters who needed clothing made from shifter fur or wool, if he wanted to shift with his clothes anyway. Synthetic fabrics did not agree with his constitution and caused some nasty rashes if he tried to shift with them on.
He took the hand, clasping the jacket tightly to keep it from falling.
"I...dont have a choice really."
He REALLY hoped this wasnt another underground shifter battle ring trying to get some cheap thrills. That had been unpleasant, even if he had gotten a free meal out of it.
The golem doubted the shifter had a flourishing amount of appealing options to avoid the cruelty and hardships of homelessness. If the child truly wished to escape the foster care system and survive in the harsh reality suffocating them in Lorsette, he needed a proper starting place. The axe-wielding young woman would intake misfits, providing the crucial opportunities required to allow those to learn and live. Thus, she kept her hand outstretched to the naked blond, allowing him the option to accept or deny her offer.
[break][break]
If he denied, she would walk away and leave him with the vest in hopes of assisting his survival, even if minimally. If he accepted, Naomi hoped he would learn to grow strong and find a place among the Battle Axes. The purple-haired woman would even understand a mere temporary housing until the blond learned to stand sturdy on his feet. If he proved trustworthy, him remaining a temporary patron would be something Naomi could accept. As they stood in the alleyway, the blond grasped her hand as he accepted the limited nature of choices.
[break][break]
The woman nodded at him. "Then c'mon kid. As long as you don't mind some rowdy roughhousers around you, you'll be fine. You don't gotta entertain them, just tell them they're fucking dumbasses and if they want a fight, they can come find me."
[break][break]
The grumble of her words held soft tones of affection. Despite her words, Naomi cared about her gang and was willing to give anything in order to protect them. After the brief introduction, the incredibly tall woman helped pull the blond to his feet, releasing his hand to lead the way.
King followed, wordlessly. He knew, for a fact, he wouldnt have the confidence to tell anyone off. Fighting was out of the question entirely. A life of poor nutrition had left him incredibly weak by shifter standards. Most humans could hold their own against him in a fight.
And any human who had done any kind of sport could beat him down easily. He wasnt even much of a runner, with his shifter form being a stubby legged corgi. He was small enough to fit into spaces most others couldnt. That was how he had survived as long as he had. Run away, find someplace small to hide in, and wait it out.
As he walked, he kept glancing at the dinosaur girl. Her scent was confusing. He couldnt understand it, but while he couldnt understand WHAT she was, he trusted his instincts, and she didnt smell like the others who had hurt him for their own gain.
Of course. He had never encountered a golem in his life before. He had no idea what they were, and even now, he figured she was just some kind of wraith, a type of undead he had encountered.
The golem returned down the trail she took for escapism with plans to reach their outskirts base. The Battle Axes were a well-known gang, however, they nonetheless were capable of hiding themselves from the watching eyes of law enforcement. They broke minimal rules, only accomplishing those criminal acts when necessary for their survival. Others would dip their toes into the realm of crime more frequently, however, a majority accomplished what was required to earn a living and survive in the everchanging world of Lorsette.
[break][break]
As she strolled alongside the young boy, her hands retreated into her pockets while her eyes skimmed the area around her. They flitted, observing the world around them for any dangers as they navigated through the Western area, heading to the outskirts. On their way towards the outskirts, Naomi realized she never gathered information regarding the young boy's identity. The information would be crucial for their version of background checks and confirmations. Her eyes gave a sideways towards the younger blond.
[break][break]
"Hey, kid, I never caught your name, so what is it?" She asked the young boy. "You can call me Naomi, by the way."
[break][break]
Her gaze was placed on him as they walked down the sidewalks. It would take some time to leave the Western area and return to the familiar home of the outskirts. However, once they entered the outer border of Lorsette, Naomi knew she would require her full attention. The slums of Lorsette had questionable people and more terrors after all.
