Welcome to The Duality of Man, an original animanga role-play that features numerous supernatural creatures. Unfortunately, these various species have distanced themselves because of the war that occurred thousands of years ago, plaguing some with eyes that only see their dualism. While others meddle themself with their differences, two groups fight, each attempting to eliminate the other in for their definition of worldly peace. These two groups of the Terror Response Syndicate (TRS) and the Assembly of Phantoms (AP). With individuals fighting merely over their differences, it brings uncertainty to the outcome of this war.
We happily accept all role-players as long as they obey the rules and are capable of meeting our word count of 50. This does include those who are unfamiliar with this style of role-playing. The staff of The Duality of Man are willing to happily help those who are new to the role-playing world so they feel comfortable on site. Feel free to message the staff if you need help, they can be found here or in the site Discord and will gladly answer questions alongside calm concerns. If you have any suggestions we would love to hear them; guests may use the support board as a suggestion area as well. Should you decide to join, may I say welcome to the site and we all hope you enjoy your time here.

Summer 2024
Heat has broken through into a glorious summer. The snow has entirely dried through the spring, leaving to the brilliance of the warmer months. Terror activity has risen as people are brought out of their homes, leaving the TRS in a position of consistent work. Each are attempting to maintain victory in the endless struggle for power.
Since the wonderful members of TDOM enjoy the site enough to play around on it, this thread is to assist with the site's tidying! Functionality is important and we want to make the site functional even if its activity will be minimal at best!
An objective was in Malakai's mind, which was to gather ingredients in an attempt to make a potion that could possibly rid wounds of infection, edge off pain and lastly help to heal the area. It was a rather ambitious project especially due to the numerous close calls of the potion exploding on him, in fact the ravenette had gained a tiny cut on his cheek from one occasion. However, a majority of his supplies had been expended on the project, which meant that it was about time that Malakai gathered some new supplies. He had a steely determination to complete this project after all, or at least make some more progress on it; not to mention he needed to refill his current potion stores for his medical work.
Thus, the young man had changed from the old clothing he wore for potion making into the usual button up white top and jean combo. As usual, the buttons were done up right to the top despite his jacket hiding his scar adorned torso excellently. A black jacket remain hung around his shoulders, the zipper all the way up in order to spare himself from the grief of the cold outside. Today was particularly cold considering there was a light snowfall and a horrible wind coming in from the west. Although, it was only a mild concern considering that Malakai had no plans to walk to the mall where he usually got his supplies. After all the kindly daughter of one of the stores always gave him a discount if he was purchasing for the TRS. The reasoning behind her sweet exposition was unknown to the tall, black-haired man; he merely thought it was from the bottom of her heart. Perhaps a thank-you for helping those who risked their life to protect Lorsette from the monstrous terrors.
With simple ease the man entered the mall and weaved through the numerous people who crowded the corridors of the Halo Crown Mall. The entire time, his head remained downwards, only glancing up every so often to make certain he was not about to crash into anybody. When the occasional eye contact was made, instantly glanced away as his shyness sparked to life. It was rather strange how he felt incredibly anxious just to look at somebody's face, especially if he barely knew the person. He just could not help it, even having reassuring thoughts running through his mind did little to cease his social awkwardness. Once he entered the store that carried his usual supplies, Malakai felt himself calm slightly since there was a lack of crowding inside the store. Although, he attempted to avoid the few people in the store since the location suggested possible interest in similar hobbies.
Shortly, Malakai had gathered the various ingredients he needed before heading to the front till. The shop owner's daughter was there as usual, a wide and friendly grin on her face while she waved at him. Her hair was in the usual brown ringlets that framed her face, her lips highlighted by lipstick that made them look a touch more red. In modern society, she would be the conventional term of beautiful with her physique and high cheek bones; there was a reason why people stated she should be a model. As he approached some idle chatter started, Malakai's stuttering slighter due to vague familiarity with her. Only a few moments later did he discover why perhaps he received a discount from her specifically.
An offer was made to go to the movies once she finished work, and on her voice was a tone that screamed flirtation as she added a few more words. There was little Malakai could say since he simply was not interested; this was one of the banes of being an in the closet homosexual. He looked away, unable to think of a polite way to turn her down without stating that he was not interested in girls. His brown eyes caught the bag filled with his supplies, by some miracle he actually had an excuse.
"S-sorry, can't. Have to w-work, you know? Potions... and such since I need to make sure I have enough, for... um missions," Malakai said quietly. After noting that it sounded a little rude, he quickly added to it. "N-n-not that a friendly outing would not be nice! You know... as friends cause that... um... sounds like fun... I'm just... uh, busy. Sorry..."
Momentarily, Malakai flinched as he realized how awkwardly his words came out. She looked rather displeased, likely only giving him the discount to be kind; or to perhaps hold onto the grim hopes that it would change. Only a small polite smile remained on her face, something merely given to a customer, not necessarily a friend. Once the exchange was finished, Malakai said his goodbyes which received no answer. That made him feel guilty, why could he not have agreed then explained he was homosexual? The answer was too obvious and caused him to look at his feet while he slowly walked away. Fear, it was pure and simple, the concept of opening up about his sexuality was simply too frightening after the torture his mother submitted him to.
With that, Malakai began to walk through the corridor with a single bag of supplies; there was no reason why he should not take a look around while he was here. Mentally, he went over a small list of items that his father had been looking for since picking stuff up was the least he could do. Thus, the tall ravenette began to wander around the Halo Crown Mall in wonder of what he could find within the numerous shops.
Valentine had decided to go to the mall. It was her day off at work and remaining in country-side home was an absolutely boring idea. Instead, the tall woman had gotten into her prized black car, windows tinted in pure black which made it nearly impossible to look inside (unless, of course, someone had the right kind of vision). It was her way to protect herself from the sun when that blasted orb in the sky decided to scorch the earth- and Val- with its rays. If anyone were to ask, she would state she loved the privacy and the benefit of having expensive materials. Nothing screamed wealthy like owning a custom-made car.
As any good citizen would, Val drove to the Halo Crown Mall, taking special care not to break any rules of the road. She found a parking spot, gathered her gold, handheld clutch under her arm, and walked towards the mall's entrance, large sunglasses adorned her face. Today's wardrobe had found her in a red, long sleeved velvet dress with a slit up the right leg to reveal it. In order for her clothes to appear more casual than formal, she had chosen to wear her black knee-high boots. Small pieces of jewlery hung around her neck and fingers to accent her attire. Valentine was more than pleased with herself.
Strolling through the mall to browse, she had found herself at the medical ingredients shop. It was always curious to see what humans had come up with this time to heal their broken and wounded. Her long, eloquent fingers brushed against some of them, curious amber eyes bright. The scent of garlic hit her nose and she wrinkled up her face. She would have to take extra care not to run into whatever was douced with the stuff. The last thing she needed was to cause a scene and reveal her little secret.
Val was not alone in the store. There was a rather beautiful woman standing at the till, watching the only other customer in the store with an adoring gaze. The sight of infatuation was not lost on the vampire. She knew when one was smitten when she saw it. A small smile appeared on her lips as she turned her attention to the man in question, a slender and dorky looking fellow. His arms were full of all the things he needed for- for what? That sparked her curosity. As the man made his way to the cashier (much to the lady's delight, Val was certain), Valentine moved slowly to follow. Her keen senses allowed her to listen in without appearing too suspicious.
The interaction itself was very... painful. The lad was not at all interested in the lady's proposition to go on a date. How interesting. This changed how Valentine played her little game. She looked up from where she was "browsing" to burn a hole in the cashier lady with her gaze. Val didn't make a move to anything more except watch, and make it obvious she was watching. As the man had awkwardly stumbled out his words and the look the lady gave him changed, that is when the two women's eyes met. Valentine had began to sashay forward as the man turned to walk away with his goods.
Upon arriving at the till, Valentine reached out and gently touched the other woman's forearm with her hand. "Sorry,
darling, he's spoken for." Val offered a little wink before turning around and following after the man. If anything, she had hoped themessage was clear. The cashier would hopefully believe what was said to her and assume that Valentine and the dorky-looking man were an item. As if to try and prove it to the eyes that followed her, she trotted quickly after the man and wrapped her arms around his surprisingly muscular bicep.
"Don't look startled now, just keep walking, darling. I'm sure the pretty cashier won't be bothering you again with date ideas." To anyone who heard her spoke it would be obvious to them that Val was not from Lorsette- or from Canada in general. True, her accent had faded over the years but there was still a light inflection. As if to prove a point, Val had turned her head to gaze over her shoulder and towards the store they had just left. She was certain the cashier had saw perfectly. That caused her to smile to herself.
"Introductions are in order, wouldn't you agree? You may call me Valentine. And you, my dear?"
Being locked in the awkward position made a new sprouting of nervousness; Malakai did not want to be mean. It was becoming clear that the cashier was not overly pleased about him turning down her proposal. The young man hated these situation since they tended to emphasize why keeping him sexuality hidden was not always a positive; not that there were many positives in keeping it hidden anyways. During the interaction, Malakai failed to notice that a mysterious woman had been watching them. His attention was completely focused attempting to not be rude to the cashier who was always so sweet to him; if only she was a man then perhaps he would have considered it. When the woman who had been observing was shortly noticed, mostly for her style.
For a few moments, the field medic watched her and began noting her style which consisted of a long-sleeved red dress and black boots, jewelry adorning her neck and fingers. Upon realizing that she was watching them, Malakai presumed that perhaps she needed help and was waiting for them to finish their idle chatter. With little desire to keep somebody from their job, Malakai began to walk away and offered the farewell that remained unanswered. While dwelling in his guilty emotions, the young man found that he had not been paying attention to his surroundings. The field medic was thinking of an excellent way to apologize to the cashier the next time he came for supplies. Even if she merely searched for a date currently, perhaps she still desired a friendship? That was something that the ravenette was not certain about, but he could at the very least try and make it up to her or figure out a way to explain that he was not interested in girls... The former seemed like a better option for Malakai.
Only a few moments later did somebody wrap their arms around his bicep, causing his face to immediately flush red. Had the cashier manage to escape work and decided to try a more bold method?! The tall man glanced down at the mysterious woman, the one in the red dress to be specific, had caught up to him. There was a bemused and bashful look on Malakai's face; he could not comprehend why exactly this woman decided to grab him. Before the field medic could even begin to question her, the woman spoke about the cashier and no more date ideas. The woman held an accent, making it clear that she was not from Canada, but Malakai was not focused on her voice. Based on what the stranger stated, she had watched the entire exchange and his failure to even let the cashier down gently. Immediately, the tall man's face turned a brighter shade of red and he bashfully looked away from the mystery lady.
The field medic could only imagine what the stranger had said to the cashier. He was mostly praying that this woman was not the over-confident believes she can get any man type or else that would turn awkward. Speechlessly, Malakai kept walking until the woman mentioned introductions. For a few moments, the tall man remained silent trying to figure out what he should do in this sort of situation, but nothing came to mind. Perhaps if he was a little bolder, he would have escaped the woman's grip, but that was not the case. After realizing his hesitation, Malakai realized he should respond to the woman, who introduced herself as Valentine.
"Um... M-m-malakai," he stuttered quietly.
Instantly, the field medic flinched since he managed to stumble over his own name. It was somewhat pathetic to Malakai when he could not even probably state his name. Most likely it was due to the fact it felt like his face was burning from somebody randomly infiltrating his personal space. Admittedly, the young man did horrible in these sorts of situations when an individual got really close to him. At the moment, he was just thankful it was not a handsome man; that would make his face feel like an intense inferno and would likely result in his speech being more awkward. There was also the chance it could reveal his sexuality and currently, Malakai liked being in the closet; it made less mother related worrying on his part.
"Uhhh, w-why are... you... um... d-d-doing this?" Malakai asked, stumbling over his words all the while.
Comprehending Valentine's motivation was far beyond him and honestly he was not completely certain he wanted to know. As it currently stood he was hoping there were not too many romantic implications being made. He had began noticing the people glancing in their direction, causing the bashful man to keep his eyes glued to the floor. There was nothing that was coming to mind that would allow him to escape the present situation.
Valentine watched closely as the man's face flushed red. She could sense the blood behind it pumping to fuel his cheeks, reflecting his embarassment and, with no fault of his own, made her feel a slight tinge in her belly. Instead of indulging in her desire to drink, she instead laughed in a way that only someone so confident (or perhaps conceited) could. The vampire found it absolutely adorable that the man would react this way.
To spare him any more pain and embarrassment, Valentine untangled her arms from his, but still matched him step for step. Her boots clicked underfoot, amber eyes narrowed onto her company with curiosity and delight.
"Malakai. What a delightful name." Another polite smile was shot his way. And then the question she should have expected hit her ears. Why was she doing this? What thoughts could this cute little Malakai possibly have of her? Given his charming looks and even more attractive sheepishness, Val could only assume he thought the worse. Oh yes, this poor little man only coming to the mall for supplies only to be harrassed by two women who craved his affections. The very thought of being accused for this made her gafaw in a dramatic fashion, surly drawing even more attention to them.
"Oh darling, fear not. Even if I were the type to chase after those I wish to court...." She paused her words, letting the flirtation sink in before offering Malakai a foxy wink. "You certainly aren't my type. Just like that pretty cashier back there wasn't yours, hm? I was simply saving you the burden of turning it down. It's always an... awkward conversation, wouldn't you say?"
Valentine spoke as if she knew all of Malakai's secrets. In all honesty, she did not. But that much would not be evident. Val held herself with an air of mystery and yet she would be as transparent as glass if you asked for clarification. But only those who knew her would knew such a trick... or those who held curiosity in their hearts.
"I accept thank you's in the form of coffee. Or dinner. Whatever you may prefer. I certainly have my own curiosity's about you. Given the things you have picked up... I could gather you may be an alchemist. Potions, if I recall correctly. Doctor, perhaps? I happen to be a doctor myself."
There was a large amount of heat in Malakai's face during the time the woman walked with her arms around his. He was, by all definitions, flustered. Most people would have noticed by the deep red blush painted his cheeks and the bridge of his nose. There was a fortune in the individual's gender being female since should she had been the sex he was attracted too then his face would carry the appearance of tomato. The young man chewed his lip as he found himself unable to sooth the anxiousness he felt. Even when the woman released his arm, Malakai still found himself feeling extremely nervous; his face carrying the same redness. Upon hearing Val state that his name was delightful, the field medic's face deepened in red, the tips of his ears being effected by the blush as well.
When the woman released what sounded like a conceited laugh, it only caused the heat in redness to increase. It was not long before Malakai was fiddling with the bag's strap; twisting and letting it unravel. The young man failed to notice that he was doing something out of nervousness since he was far to concerned about what the beautiful lady was planning.
"Th-thank y-you," he mumbled quietly.
The polite smile did little to cease the bashful emotions that were steadily rising. Then when she released a boisterous laugh that caught the attention of several passerby the redness increased again. It was probable that his entire face was red due to embarrassment and being glanced at. Shyness was always a pain to deal with during these situations. As she spoke, offering him a wink, once again the blush increased until she mentioned he was not her type. Hearing that allowed the young man to relax a fraction because he would thankfully not have to attempt another awkward rejection. What kept him tense was the manner the Val talked. It possessed the air of knowing, almost as though every secret he held was something she was discovered. The only though keeping the young man from panicking over the concept was the idea of impossibility. Val had never met him up until now, which made it downright improbable that she knew that much about him. There was a sense of relief in that; he did not need people bringing up his past or pointing out his sexuality since he was incredible personal about both.
"Y-y-yes... it would be awkward," Malakai responded quietly.
The stranger seemed to increase in mystery the longer they interacted which admittedly made Malakai a little curious; he did like mystery novels after all. When the concept of coffee or dinner was brought up, the bashful man's face deepened in redness again. Then the mentioning of him possibly being a doctor made his eyes remained glued to the floor. People tended not to believe the concept of him being a field medic due to the unlikelihood of him thriving on the field remotely.
"Um... o-okay," Malakai responded to the thanking question. "N-no, not necessarily... a doctor. I... uh... work as a f-field medic for the TRS."
While they walked, the bashful man's eyes remained to the floor a majority of the time, only looking up to make certain he would not crash into other mall patrons. During the time, Malakai continued to nervously chew his lip and fiddle with the bag strap. He simply could not resist since his anxious feeling made it impossible to do so.
Valentine's eyes seemed to become much more intense after Malakai revealed he was a TRS medic. The vampire then seemed to have her own ideas fall into place. She wanted to take this man out for dinner. He could object, sure, but she hardly doubted he would. The poor boy could hardly look at Val for goodness sake. How could he suddenly find the backbone to run away from her?
"Let me treat you. Forget what I said about thank you's. It was rather rude, wasn't it? Come with me. I have just the place. We can have a couple of drinks, relax, and eat a filling meal. My treat. Come on."
Valentine hardly waited for an answer before she was headed towards the door of the mall. She would take him to her favourite restaurant. It wasn't like she was trying to impress him yes she was, it was just that they had the best food in this damned town she also really wanted to impress him. Was it so wrong to believe the confident, strong-willed woman could be friends with a nervous, push-over? It was one of the mysteries of life.
"I'm parked close by, darling, it's not that far." And luckily it's cloudy. I didn't even have to wear my hat today. Lucky me.
Leaving the mall, Val turned around enough to make sure Malakai was following. She approached her slick, black car and opened the passenger door for her guest, not letting up until she found the tall man in her car.
"Domn." Her tongue purred the Romanian word. It was simple, a kind word to mean 'sir', just as one may use monsieur.
It was obvious from Malakai's behavior alone that he was not completely certain how to escape the situation. The woman seemed benevolent and friendly, but as it currently stood he merely wanted to return home and work. Yet, she was being incredibly kind and it would be rather rude to use the work excuse again when Valentine had attempted to save him from future awkwardness with the woman in the shop. Quietly, the field medic stood with eyes adverted from the woman; he was far too bashful to make eye contact. That was when the stranger offered him a meal and before Malakai had the chance to refuse and insist that it was unnecessary, she was already moving towards the door. For a few moments, the shy man hesitated while he tried to rake his brain for a method to allow him to leave, but it would be rude to refuse the invitation.
What if the stranger was merely trying to make up for her own actions that she believed were rude? Not allowing her a chance at redemption or to make herself feel better. A small sigh escaped Malakai's lips since work would have to wait. In silence, the tall man followed the beautiful woman towards the exit while his self-consciousness made him wonder what other people were thinking about the display. Accidentally creating false facts were not something the field medic wanted to do, not to mention it would be incredibly awkward if people thought they were dating due to Malakai's lack of attraction towards women. When the woman mentioned parking close, the bashful man responded with a sheepish nod. As the woman opened the door, speaking a word that Malakai did not understand, the male raised an eyebrow.
Despite the confusion, Malakai took a seat in the car while nervously playing with the cuffs of his sleeves after setting the bag in front of him. It was not long until the bashful man was chewing on his lower lip as well. The thoughts of how terrible he could be in social situations were consuming him; what if he accidentally made Valentine upset because of his social lacking? Sitting over a meal suggested that making idle conversation was required, which was not something that the field medic was particularly good at. With that, he remained nervous and continued doing his various little habits in hopes they would sooth the anxious emotions.
Valentine stifled her giggles at Malakai's stuttering. She was in no hurry to answer him. He obliged her desires by crawling into the passenger seat... so Valentine completed her gentleman's task and closed it behind him.
Once in front of the wheel, Valentine turned the key in the ignition and smiled as her engine roared to life. "You're awfully cute, did you know that?" The vampire purred, shooting Malakai a genuine look before she began revving her engine. The beast of a motor roared again and again before Val put it in drive and took off to her favourite restaurant.
"I can only guess what you're thinking, darling. You must assume I have an ulterior motive besides just dinner. I suppose that is an accurate assumption. I wish nothing more than to make a friend. It pains me to say I don't have many in this town. Can you believe it?" The question was rhetorical, dripping with disbelief. How could anyone not want to be friends with dear, beautiful Miss Valentine?
The devilish thought brought a smile to her face. Many, especially humans, would rather bed her than stick around. Did Valentine complain? Oh no. She preferred to feel empowered than to feel at all. Friends brought emotions and emotions brought weakness- they could be used against her if and when an enemy came along.
"I hope that doesn't apply too much pressure, dear. If at the end of the night you hate me even more, you never have to see me again." The promise felt hollow, only because the von Maria believed no one could resist her charm.
The duo pulled off of a rode that seemed to move away from the town. Lorsette's lights were fading in the mirror, but a dim light ahead was promise their destination was near.
After about 10 min of driving, Val pulled into the lot and cut the engine. "Well, here we are." The vampire smiled. The building was gothic in style, tall with pillars and windows that didn't allow anyone to see inside. Two security guards stood at the entrance looking stoic and strong. One was a burly man with too much hair, the other was slender with a dog's tail poking out of his pants. In red, neon lights, the name of the restaurant revealed itself: The Beetle.
The security guards nodded their heads to Valentine as she led Malakai through the doors. The two were instantly greeted and ushered to their table by a man with thick, black hair and a beard. He smiled faintly before vanishing almost soundlessly. Malakai and Valentine found themselves almost completely alone in the back of the restaurant, seated by a window that was designed to keep the sunlight out (if there was any to evade).
"What do you think? I do hope it's not overly fancy for you. They have a multitude of different foods for various creatures." Their server came back and placed menus in front of them. Once opened, Malakai would be able to see the menu was sectioned based on species... the first species listed were those from Hell, then Earth, then the Undead, and finally Heaven. "If you need a recommendation, do let me know, dear.
[attr="class","hearmenand2"]Nervousness weighed heavily on Malakai's shoulders as he slowly entered the vehicle. Interacting with other individuals was a difficult task for the bashful field medic, thus each action was accomplished with hesitance and anxiety. There was a portion of Malakai which wished he had escaped when the opportunity presented itself, especially since the dark-haired woman was a complete stranger. If the bashful man was aware the occurrences of the day would have created this type of event, he would wrapped himself in blankets and remained at home; he was a far cry from a social butterfly. These were the situations Malakai feared, especially considering the manner of which their initial exchange went. The woman had looped her arm around his, pretending to be his significant other briefly to assist with the cashier's date ideas. However, there could be a motive to potentially attempt to date him herself or worse, although, certain he was not her type, right? This woman was beautiful, somebody who most would expect to end up with somebody of equal beauty, likely somebody muscular.
After entering the car, the door was closed shut, the click being an evident sign of his fate being sealed. Trepidation filled his movements, Malakai slowly grabbing the seat belt to buckle himself in. Ignition roared to life, the bashful field medic attempting to soothe his anxious emotions, but everything changed when he suddenly received a compliment from Valentine. Everything immediately changed as Malakai's cheeks burned red, concerns about the possible future weighing on his bashful mind at the thought of having to try and escape the situation. Compliments were rare, thus the bespectacled man turned presumptuous and believed perhaps the dark-haired woman was using this entire scheme as a massive flirting attempt. The mere notion was a worrisome thought for the homosexual male who was attempting to avoid the dating scene entirely. As the drive began, Malakai's hands were anxiously clasped together, wringing, while his right knee bobbed up and down. Red remained evident on the field medic's face as Valentine stated she spoke, politely shaking his head 'no'; words were impossible to speak because of his social issues.
Slow breaths were taken, Malakai attempting to soothe his endless nervousness. The promise resulted in the dark-haired man stiffening, a slight confusion settling on his face.
"Um... wh-why would I hate you?" He asked in an awkward, quiet voice.
The confusion was evident in the bashful man's voice, his expression reflecting similar. While Malakai disliked the sudden plans sprung onto him, he refused to judge until provided a thorough interaction with the other individual. However, the bashful man was renowned for his benevolence, oftentimes resulted in him not being particularly picky about the friends he managed to make. Ten minutes in the car was spent proceeding to be anxious for Malakai, but he struggled to remain calm. When they pulled up, the bashful man glanced out the window, hesitantly exiting the car and glancing up at the red, neon sign which spelt out 'The Beatle'. There were a pair of guards stationed outside the doors, making more anxiety build up as Malakai stared at the fancy restaurant. Nervously, Malakai followed behind Valentine, entering the restaurant, following her to the location she wished to sit. Once they were settled, the bespectacled man was asked about his thoughts, the man glancing around anxiously in response.
"Um... Well... I am not used to these restuarants," Malakai murmured.
When the menus arrived, the field medic glanced over the well-organized list of foods. There was a nervous pause as he glanced over the foods, the man immediately becoming anxious about what he should get. Changing restaurants was never a thought which passed through Malakai's mind, he has always been someone for routines.
