Alexander Reed had his daily routine. On weekdays, he got up, went to school, then went home to work on homework, write in his journal, and read. He didn't need anything to change. He was happy with his day to day life. He didn't care that he didn't have much variation in his activities. In fact, he preferred it that way. When things stayed the same he didn't have to step out of his comfort zone and risk getting hurt - physically or mentally. There was a safety in the known, and he wasn't bored enough that he'd ever consider experimenting with change.

Unfortunately, today he didn't get to follow his routine. He still got up and went to school, but after school his mother was having some people over and he didn't want to be there. She'd told him about it a week ago and said she could stay over with Lelan if he wanted to, but despite the fact that school was now over he still hadn't contacted his brother about it. He'd meant to. In fact, he'd pulled out his phone and started typing the simple message "Hey can I visit you Tuesday afternoon?" But he hadn't worked up the nerve to actually send it. His brother was one of the few people he liked and didn't mind talking to, but he hated the idea that he might be a bother.

It was too late to send the message now anyway. He was already on his way to Lelan's place and it seemed easier to just show up than to ask now. It wasn't like there was danger in showing up last minute with no warning. His brother would always accept his company. Despite knowing that, but his stomach from clenched with anxiety and his hand shook slightly as he raised a fist and knocked three times on the door to his brother's apartment.

A large yawn escaped Lelan's lips as his arms raised up into a big stretch. The bespectacled brunette spent endless hours assisting a young couple with their home. As a freelancer capable of accomplishing menial house repairs, Lelan had spent time tightening pipes and checking connections beneath a sink. Weary blinks left his eyes as he lounged inside his apartment, laying on the couch with a game show network on. The arrival of summer meant days spent playing baseball and hanging out with his friends, alas, there were days between each practice and game.

The procubi's eyes flickered between the TV and the sunlight filtering through the window. Around him, the roar of the television echoed as people cheered and screamed in happiness. Outside the birds chirped, cheerfully making a song on the edges of windowsills while fluttering their wings. A gentle sigh escaped Lelan's lips as the man's mouth quirked into a small grin. The exhaustion of work left his body weary, however, the day was considered overall positive for the young procubi. The arrival of summer meant the upkeep of work for the tree surgeon as winter thawed.

Trees could happily be trimmed and tamed without the insidious actions of winter's frigid nature murdering the unfortunate giant. It meant an influx of funds for the young man to work with as his occupation expanded in capability. Summer made everything easier and provided Lelan with the opportunity to breathe easier. Breaking Lelan from his thoughts were the echoes of a knock at his door. A grumbled 'hmm' escaped his lips before the young man adjusted on the couch. He managed to get into a sitting position before rising from the living room couch.

Quietly, the man strode towards the familiar wooden door with a curious expression. From what the brunette understood, there were no expected arrivals to his abode. He had suspected his days would be spent lonesomely lounging around and perhaps texting a few people for his enjoyment. The procubi reached for the doorknob, twisting it open to reveal an unexpected, but welcomed guest at the door. Immediately, Lelan's lips stretched into a broad grin upon seeing the youth on the other side of the threshold.

Abruptly, his younger brother had arrived to visit, resulting in Lelan's elation. Immediately, he opened the door wider without a second thought.

The ending of school was arriving as time ticked forward. The final days of June marked the start of graduation and freedom for many excited children searching for release. Admittedly, Lelan held excitement over the arrival of the school year's end. His brother's freedom ultimately meant some quality sibling time between the pair. The notion brought jubilee to Lelan's life with Alex being a crucial member of his family.

In the moments between knocking and anyone responded, Alex debated walking away. He didn't really need to bother his brother. He could always go to a café or find a book to read and a bench in a park. But he knew that could prove to be more annoying and he did want to hang out with Lelan. Plus he'd been running particularly low on the social interaction meter lately and if he wasn't around people things could get messy.

As he was about to turn away anyway, the door opened and he saw his brother's brown hair and sharp eyes, so like his own and yet so different because his brother's eyes had always been more open and willing to interact than Alex's. He didn't know how he'd turned out so different from his older brother, but even if he tried to be extroverted and effortless and cool he knew it wouldn't work. He'd just make a fool out of himself and feel like an idiot for the next month. That was how it worked. People made confidence look so easy, but it really wasn't. There was no simple way to be 'normal', whatever that meant.

Alex smiled hastily and nodded. "Yeah, that." he confirmed. "Mom has guests over or something and she said I could come over here if I wanted. If you're ok with that, I mean. I don't want to be any trouble." He rushed through the words a bit shakily. He didn't know exactly what he wanted to do with his brother, but he didn't want to be a problem. And he didn't want to get in trouble for something he couldn't predict yet. Maybe Lelan had plans. After all, he hadn't been told to expect Alex.

The sight of his younger brother managed to transcend tranquillity over Lelan. A smile danced across the procubi's lips as his brown eyes gazed over Alex. Always, the older male felt protective of his little brother, oftentimes rescuing him during the days of his youth. Fortunately, Lelan lacked any plans for the evening, causing the opportunity to spend it with his brother, despite his weariness, a pleasant change. His eyes turned back into the apartment, scouting out the surroundings briefly with intruding thoughts of possibilities.

The sudden visit meant abrupt plans for activities for the pair. Stacked inside the upper shelf of his closet were board games aplenty, from the never-finished Monopoly to the more intense Risk. There were boxes filled with cut-loose type games such as Scrabble, Sorry and Trouble. Additionally, there were a few video games stacked by the TV. While not an impressive or particularly large collection, a few multiplayer ones were planted amidst the stacks. However, most consisted of mere Mario games gotten for chill nights with friends.

A gentle 'mmm' squeezed through his closed lips as Lelan journeyed further into the apartment, his brown eyes flitting around. While Lelan proceeded to hold no issues with Alex's sudden arrival at his apartment, he wanted his little brother and himself to have something to do.

"Of course I'm ok with that," Lelan chuckled with a wide grin. "You're always welcomed here, Alex."

Fortunately, after a long workday, Lelan held no plans beneath his sleeves. Rather, the young man wished to relax in his apartment and allow his energy to restore. However, time alongside his brother was always respected and pleasant for Lelan, thus he was fully prepared to spend time with him.
