Welcome to The Duality of Man, an original animanga role-play that features numerous supernatural creatures. Unfortunately, these various species have distanced themselves because of the war that occurred thousands of years ago, plaguing some with eyes that only see their dualism. While others meddle themself with their differences, two groups fight, each attempting to eliminate the other in for their definition of worldly peace. These two groups of the Terror Response Syndicate (TRS) and the Assembly of Phantoms (AP). With individuals fighting merely over their differences, it brings uncertainty to the outcome of this war.
We happily accept all role-players as long as they obey the rules and are capable of meeting our word count of 50. This does include those who are unfamiliar with this style of role-playing. The staff of The Duality of Man are willing to happily help those who are new to the role-playing world so they feel comfortable on site. Feel free to message the staff if you need help, they can be found here or in the site Discord and will gladly answer questions alongside calm concerns. If you have any suggestions we would love to hear them; guests may use the support board as a suggestion area as well. Should you decide to join, may I say welcome to the site and we all hope you enjoy your time here.
Yours Truely,
The Staff

Summer 2024
Heat has broken through into a glorious summer. The snow has entirely dried through the spring, leaving to the brilliance of the warmer months. Terror activity has risen as people are brought out of their homes, leaving the TRS in a position of consistent work. Each are attempting to maintain victory in the endless struggle for power.
Since the wonderful members of TDOM enjoy the site enough to play around on it, this thread is to assist with the site's tidying! Functionality is important and we want to make the site functional even if its activity will be minimal at best!

[attr="class","arloBody"]
Snow covered the ground of Lorsette, maintaining a carpet of white anywhere which lacked traffic. Streets and sidewalks were cleared after the overnight snowfall. However, the morning brought a nasty, frigid wind alongside the cold temperatures. The chilling cold of winter arrived with one well-needed drink for the months of chilly fingers and red faces. At least, Arlo believed it a necessity when the chill came nipping. Thus, through the morning, the cheerful hellhound's thoughts were filled with notions of delightful hot chocolate gliding over his lips and down his tongue.
[break][break]
Memories of previous indulgences in the hot chocolate at Crescent Moon Cafe flashed through his mind. Delightful, brilliant, taste-packed and sugary all as warmth leaked over his fingers through the disposable cup. A jovial sigh escaped Arlo's lips as he walked down the sidewalk. After a rigorous mission during the mask of nightfall, the hellhound was felt the treat was well-deserved. The flawless execution of his grandfather's rival without a shred of mercy or even an eye flitting over his petite frame was proof of skillfulness.
[break][break]
A fleet-footed creep through the window and a silenced handgun against the man's head, he never stood a chance! Before he could scream or counter, the quick squeeze of the trigger ended his life. His walls painted and his life stolen from the endlessly cheerful and frightfully renowned Arlo Norwood. In seconds he left, teleporting and escaping in the night to his grandfather's delight. Thus proving a hot-chocolate and a day away from the binds of work was well-earned for the dark-haired young man. He was skillful in his hitman craft, and he proved it.
[break][break]
Merrily, he bounded down the sidewalk, smile wide as he happily giggled at the thought of his hot chocolate. The young man's red eyes flitted around before crossing the familiar sign of Crescent Moon Cafe. A broad grin played across his lips as a giddy gasp escaped his mouth. Briefly, his steps quickened, bringing him to the front door of the cafe. He pushed the door open, the joyous jingling of the entrance bell filling his ears. The young man was quick to approach the counter, where he smiled at the cashier.
[break][break]
"One hot chocolate to go please!" He happily requested.
[break][break]
The cashier smiled and nodded at him. Her hands quickly worked on running the hot chocolate machine, meanwhile, Arlo forked out the necessary change. Years of coming for the hot chocolate at Crescent Moon Cafe allowed him to memorize the price, $2.25. Moments later the drink was set down, the woman taking the money and placing it into the till while Arlo grabbed his drink. Warmth radiated from the paper cup, tickling over Arlo's fingers as he grasped it and pulled away. Though, a gentle click breached his ears before the hellhound stepped further.
[break][break]
His red eyes glanced down, discovering his favoured winter boots untied. A soft 'oh' left his mouth as he navigated to a nearby table. The hellhound's precious hot chocolate was placed on the smoothed, dark wood surface as he sat down, tying his boot laces. Fixation remained on tying the laces together until the familiar ring of the bell arrived. Instantly, Arlo's red optic's flitted up, unexpectedly lingering when he noticed him. A cute, soft-faced brunette entered the cafe and approached the counter. The hellhound's eyes watched him, a broad grin forming as he admired the cutie!
[break][break]
Hastily, his fingers returned to the boot, weaving the ends of the laces together into a tight bow. When he straightened, his ears listened to the requested order from the attractive man. The sensitive ears listened to the extensive list of items, his red eyes widening. An opportunity presented itself in the form of free time and a cute man to flirt with. As the barista worked towards preparing his coffees, Arlo grabbed his hot chocolate.
[break][break]
"Hey there, cutie! What are you doing ordering so much coffee? I don't think you can drink it all yourself!" The hellhound said with a playful wink and giggle. "Maybe you would like some help? I'm not doing anything today, and I would LOVE to get to know you!"
[break][break]
There were millions of instances where Arlo flirted his way into a relationship. Never one for meaningless flings, the hellhound instead craved the notion of romantic attention. However, it never ceased the black-haired criminal deciding flirt-victims based on appearances before becoming acquainted with them. Grinning happily and red eyes sparkling, Arlo waited to listen to the brunette's answer.

[attr="class","seeyoubody"]Snow blanketed the ground in a cold but beautiful scene, the light causing the white to glitter and shimmer. Made up out of countless delicate flakes, easily destroyed like many things in life. The reaper was not as fond of the chill as others, needing to keep a temperature regulating charm hooked to his belt. The chill would have easily swallowed him up, forcing a chill and a shiver to ripple down his spine. Extreme temperatures ... it was not something he liked being exposed to. Regardless, he found a way to deal with it in day to day life. [break][break]
If he could hide away and wait out the cold ... that’d be something he would seriously consider. However he had duties to attend to as a member of the TRS, and had no real fear of temperature conditions due to the charm he had been provided with. His breath steamed in a small cloud as he breathed, the vapours warm against the chilled air. He was on a coffee run for the office, picking up a little something for everyone working hard. He wasn’t one to not offer a reward where it was due, so he didn’t mind venturing out too terribly. It was uncomfortable, but well worth it. His eyes soon caught the destination intended, and his hands slip into his pockets to get the payment ready. Opening the door, a genial jingle greeted him. [break][break]
Once the desired amount had been found within the pocket of his coat, he pulled the bills free with his hand. It was an old habit of his to come almost instantly prepared, often with the exact amount on hand. They were sort of used to seeing his face here, though sometimes the person sent on the coffee run rotated. Setting down the small wad of money, he began to carefully recite the order for the group waiting for him. Everyone would likely heavily appreciate their warm drinks, especially as it got colder. The door clicked shut behind him, cutting off the rush of cold air. [break][break]
His eyes were careful as he watched them being made, hopeful that he had remembered everything just right. He had rarely missed a special add-on, though there was that one time he got a regular coffee instead of peppermint. The mistake had earned a little bit of poking, though the good nature of the teasing had assured him that there was no real harm done. It was common workplace fun, easily recognized from coworkers he has known for quite some time. He got the faint sensation of being watched, finely tuned senses easily recognizing the sensation. The attention was not something he necessarily expected, as he came here quite regularly. He was not an unfamiliar face, though that didn’t necessarily mean much. [break][break]
His attention was captured, however, as soon as a voice addressed him. ”Of course not...these are for my coworkers.” Paradox was at a loss at the compliment, not used to being on the receiving end of flirting. It was enough to almost entirely draw his attention from the drinks, as they were still being prepared. How does he respond to something like this? Was this even normal? His first impression was that ... well, the other was decidedly cute. “Do you want one? I wouldn’t mind sitting with you for a bit...” [break][break]
The tone of the reaper was a bit soft, though the slight hesitance in the words was a hint towards inexperience. If one was to be even slightly adept at reading into tones and body language, it was clear that the reaper was slightly on the more awkward side at the moment. He had never been in a serious relationship, let alone one that even made it past the possible stage. The closest he got was a hypothetical date question, and it never turned into anything real. [break][break]
Perhaps nobody had really had an interest, or maybe he had never given it much time or thought. If there had ever been a time he might have on his own, it surely would have been before his death. Dying tended to ... complicate anything you had going on prior. Leaving many who were unsure if you would return or not, a sad dance around the ticking of the clock. Maybe he deserved jokes about being married to his job, though nobody had yet made such friendly jabs. Either way, the hunter had been at his job much of his life. [break][break]
He isn’t quite sure what sparks the potential for him now, even less sure what causes him to take notice of it. Maybe it’s that this instance has made him truly give it some form of thought, or maybe some part of him has always wanted someone in his life. While initially his body language hinted at being awkward, it was clear that he was also receptive. ”Hope you like this stuff strong... it won’t be very palatable otherwise.”

A brilliant smile danced across Arlo's face as his wide, bright red eyes gazed at the attractive stranger. Flirting was an accomplish the hellhound completed with grace and hints of cute thrown in. As an avid dater, the dark-haired, young man walked around the block of romance a few times. He tasted his share of interactions from the positive to the negative in the pursuit of a partner who would, over time, entirely win him over. Though his initial flirting wishes were based on appearance attributes, he nonetheless enjoyed the courting phase.
[break][break]
The notions of breakups meant little to the sociable, young hellhound. While there were occasions of sorrow, he oftentimes merely enjoyed the time spent or was the initiator of those terms. As he approached with his sparkling eyes, his gaze wandered over the blond man. Already, joyous flickers sparkled in the hellhound's eyes the longer he observed the TRS hunter. Initial glances revealed the man's adorable attraction, and admittedly, Arlo revelled in the view. The man's pleasant features and favourable body type kept his eyes locked.
[break][break]
Flirtatious teasing kicked off from Arlo's mouth, though, the words became worthwhile with his target's reaction. The innocence in the stranger's reaction as he stated he was not single-handedly shovelling back coffee. Promptly, a gentle giggle rose Arlo's chest as amusement bubbled over in the hellhound. HE WAS SO ADORABLE! A broad grin traced his lips as he looked up at the inexperienced man.
[break][break]
"Theeeen can I ask whatcha getting all these for?" He asked curiously, eyes flitting between the coffee and the stranger.
[break][break]
The offer for providing a coffee led to another amused laugh. The smile carved across his lips strengthened as he lifted the disposable coffee cup in his hands.
[break][break]
"I'm good, thank you," the hellhound began before smirking. "I will help you though! The charge is just a nice conversation! As said, I would LOVE to get to know you better plus it would be easier for you, right?"
[break][break]
The hellhound's eyes were beaming at the blond. The seemingly ever-widening smile only brightening the expression across his countenance. There was something about the stranger's sweet attempts to return the favour that brought excitement bubbling over in Arlo's veins. His rapidly beating heart summoned joy in the young hellhound the longer he spent with his newest flirt victim. The regular symptoms of courting wish grasping his mind and bringing forth fantasized happiness for a potential future. He really wanted to have a chance with the cute blond.
[break][break]
The mention of strong coffee made his eyes light up in interest. He provided the man with a quick shake of the head while maintaining his smile. Always, the black-haired hellhound favoured the sweeter options in life, coffee never being particularly strong.
[break][break]
"It's okay! I have hot chocolate," he cheered looking at his cup. "Nice and sweet! Just how I like it!"
[break][break]
The hellhound giggled a little more as his eyes returned to the kindly blond. Shortly, a surprised expression flickered over Arlo's face as his eyes returned to the stranger.
[break][break]
"Oh! I didn't ask your name! I'm Arlo Norwood, and who is the cutie I'm talking to?" The hellhound asked with a broad grin.
[break][break]
Patiently, the hellhound waited beside him in hopes that once the coffees finished their brewing, he could walk alongside the stranger. His goal was to formulate a connection, even if a meagre casual dating relationship until feelings manifested or were confirmed. Quietly, the young man hopped on his heels, merrily grinning at the taller man.

[attr="class","seeyouline"]
[attr="class","seeyoubody"] Accompanying the somewhat awkward body language, there was a softness to the reaper’s facial expression. It was still as clear as a morning sky this wasn’t something he was accustomed to, though there was little hesitation or pause in accepting it. His fingers curled around one of the coffees, the warmth seeping through the container and into his fingers. The air was rich with the scent of the different heated beverages, as he barely noticed his own absent choice of which coffee would become his own out of the lot ordered. The warmth enveloping his hand was welcomed, a small help to the charm that was surely getting a workout. [break][break]
Such was the weakness of his kind, no longer able to regulate his own temperature as he had while living. Times like that were not often ones he bothered to think back on, as he had little in the ways of regrets. He wasn’t the type to be held back by the past, often facing resolute to what the future may bring. He had too much to live for to simply toss it away, especially to waste it on mourning the past. It was better to relinquish the sorrows and regrets of yesterday, if only to ensure that the future wouldn’t be missed. All it took was a blink, and it could all be gone. [break][break]
The amicable side of him was content to wait and talk, though as of yet remained surprised by the attention. ”I was just grabbing them for a surprise. Everyone works so hard ... I just think they deserve it.” Paradox had been careful to make sure to learn what everyone liked, for times just like this one. He gives a small nod as the other speaks, understanding the preference. ”Oh...” His voice holds a trace of surprise, but nothing too notable. ”That would be nice. It really would be helpful.” [break][break]
It would have been a bit difficult, if left to his own devices. Taking a small drink of the coffee in his hand, the bitter taste pools over his tongue. The familiar taste of black coffee, luckily he had picked up his own as absentminded as he had been. Setting it down again, he noted that the order had almost been completed. Soon, the cold outside would be waiting again. At least he would be bringing his coworkers a treat, one that would keep them pleasantly warm. [break][break]
It might not be exactly hot anymore by the time they got it, but at least it wouldn’t be cold. A warm drink on a chilled day, it was something many would likely be grateful to receive. Nodding slightly, he found himself somehow not surprised by the choice. ”Hot chocolate....that reminds me of when I was younger. I didn’t always like coffee. Used to think it was too strong.” [break][break]
”Oh...” His name...he had almost forgotten neither of them had mentioned such a basic greeting. He had been focused between waiting and talking, and almost hadn’t noticed at all. ”It’s Paradox.” His tone held tints of shyness, a slight uncharacteristic awkwardness being shown at the compliment. He really...wasn’t used to that. [break][break]
The order was fulfilled and his attention drifted back to the employee, a polite thank you being given. Now to gather these up in the carrying cases, and escort them back to his coworkers. He ended up placing his own within the case, as he wouldn’t have much in the way of free hand to carry it separately. That was the unfortunate but unavoidable drawback, of ordering so many at once. ”You want to come...?” His voice was natural in it’s invitation, picking up one case in a hand. Though he didn’t say it, he was hopeful he wouldn’t have to brave the cold alone. [break][break]

Excitement leaped inside Arlo's chest as he gleefully stared at the adorable brunette standing in front of him. The broadest grin danced across the hellhound's lips, powerful and promoted by the conversation between himself and the wonderful stranger. The exhibited kindness towards him summoned forth emotions of over-zeal that required containing given the environment. The mental victories entering his mind manifested the intense exhilaration and jubilee created by his discovery. Presently, the brunette exhibited the revered symptoms of genuine politeness with subtle, almost gentlemanly undertones.
[break][break]
In previous relationships, the hellhound learned his admiration towards the kinder, gentler souls. The traits oozed endearing qualities similar to a gaping waterfall after a river. Immense and hard-hitting. Those who followed the path of benevolence appeared to search for genuine relationships rather than quick-fawning flirts for intercourse. However, Arlo was guilty of falling for those of, particularly attractive appearances. An individual who possessed a handsome body and face regularly gained his wandering eyes quickly prompted him to desire learning more.
[break][break]
The hellhound's face lit brightly as the man explained his intentions of purchasing his coworkers' hot beverages because of the hard-work they conducted. The smile on his countenance stretched subtly further at the sweetness shown by the brunette. A good deed accomplished out of gratitude, the thought made Arlo's heartthrob from the kindness in the action. A warmth entered his smile as he imagined the giddy faces of the man's coworkers as they received their drinks... The visualization was pleasant as he imagined their smiles and joy.
[break][break]
"Awwwwww! You must be such a sweetheart! Getting everybody drinks, that is so nice," the hellhound complimented happily. "You must be one of the office favourites if you do this for them out of nowhere."
[break][break]
Not a regret entered Arlo's mind over offering his services as an extra pair of hands. The TRS official's kindness sparked a joyous nature inside the hellhound, and he wished to place it into use! A helpful pair of hands he would become while balancing the opportunity to become acquainted with a man he considered adorable. The balance appeared perfect inside his thoughts as it created the gate of opportunity while allowing for him to be infected by the man's benevolence. Excitedly, Arlo bounced upon his feet, his red eyes glimmering as he gazed at the stranger.
[break][break]
Despite the chilling temperatures beyond the cafe, the winter's day was turning excellent. The chance to manifest a connection with a man he considered attractive was, after all, always a benefit. For years, Arlo's love life was seemingly a rotating door of people he cared naught to date. People who fixated on the more libidinous intentions, the greedy souls wishing for money and the occasional outright jerk who received harsh dumping within the day. With limited exceptions from the seeming norms, Arlo was craving for somebody different to arrive and sweep him from his feet.
[break][break]
At the mention of hot chocolate being a reminder of youth, Arlo laughed softly and granted the stranger a hasty nod. Hot chocolate was a favourite of Arlo's, however, the hellhound was willing to relent to the notion of it being a drink oftentimes associated with children. Glimpses at winter-themed commercials summoned memories of happy children sipping on heaping mugs or a pair of young adults cuddling by the fireplace with their respective cups of the sweet, warm drink.
[break][break]
"I just think it tastes SUPER good! How can I resist something as sweet as this treat? It's impossible," the hellhound commented with a light-hearted chuckle.
[break][break]
Only moments later would he hear the wondrous name of the man he had been conversating with. A name with unique connotations and seemingly implications of mystery and intrigue. Almost instantly the black-haired man's red eyes lit as his mouth opened in a wider smile.
[break][break]
"Paradox?! That is such a cool name! Oh my god, you sound so cool!" The hellhound happily exclaimed.
[break][break]
The order of coffee was fulfilled over time, the scents of mingling hot beverages bleeding into the hellhound's sensitive nose. Quietly, he sniffed the air, admiring the choices made by the brunette's coworkers for a mere moment. Though, as the invitation entered his ears and caused his heart to beat excitedly, his thoughts went elsewhere. He nodded hastily before assisting with grabbing one of the trays and placing his own drink among them. Once they were prepared to leave, the hellhound scurried to the door, opening it for the adorable brunette.
