Welcome to The Duality of Man, an original animanga role-play that features numerous supernatural creatures. Unfortunately, these various species have distanced themselves because of the war that occurred thousands of years ago, plaguing some with eyes that only see their dualism. While others meddle themself with their differences, two groups fight, each attempting to eliminate the other in for their definition of worldly peace. These two groups of the Terror Response Syndicate (TRS) and the Assembly of Phantoms (AP). With individuals fighting merely over their differences, it brings uncertainty to the outcome of this war.
We happily accept all role-players as long as they obey the rules and are capable of meeting our word count of 50. This does include those who are unfamiliar with this style of role-playing. The staff of The Duality of Man are willing to happily help those who are new to the role-playing world so they feel comfortable on site. Feel free to message the staff if you need help, they can be found here or in the site Discord and will gladly answer questions alongside calm concerns. If you have any suggestions we would love to hear them; guests may use the support board as a suggestion area as well. Should you decide to join, may I say welcome to the site and we all hope you enjoy your time here.

Summer 2024
Heat has broken through into a glorious summer. The snow has entirely dried through the spring, leaving to the brilliance of the warmer months. Terror activity has risen as people are brought out of their homes, leaving the TRS in a position of consistent work. Each are attempting to maintain victory in the endless struggle for power.
Since the wonderful members of TDOM enjoy the site enough to play around on it, this thread is to assist with the site's tidying! Functionality is important and we want to make the site functional even if its activity will be minimal at best!
Spring, the season where life flourished as animals scurried through the underbrush and birds sung in the trees above. Calico Forest was alive with those musical chirps, Persephone finding comfort in the clean air and natural scents. A subtle wind rustled through the leaves above, light dancing through the shadows as the young nymph proceeded to walk down the dirt path. Everything felt alive, the gentle humming of forest life easily embracing the girl with calmness. The soothing atmosphere was welcomed after the seemingly endless amount of forced adjustments occurring in her life recently. Radical changes happened over the course of months, making Persephone uncertain on how exactly to process these recent affairs. The contrast between her previous crush and the monster she transformed into was nerve-wracking. No longer was there an innocent face to serve as a reminder about the world; how despite all the tragedies, there would always be light and innocence lurking somewhere. [break][break] A soft sigh escaped Persephone’s lips as her stone coloured eyes searched the canopy above. Birds frolicked freely, skipping and fluttering between the branches without care. Safety was granted amidst their treetop homes, limiting the amount of alertness in their actions. The slightest frown touched the blue-haired woman’s lips as she paused briefly, envying their offhanded attitudes. Relaxation eluded her nowadays, her thoughts about the circumstances surrounding her life... alongside... that bastard who continued pulling his puppet strings from a darkened corner. Despite the recent discovery, the malicious demon managed to remain hidden inside the vast buildings of Lorsette. Carefully, the young nymph proceeded forward, iron resolve consuming her mind as she kept her destination in mind. Since she was currently unable to seek him out, Persephone decided her time should be devoted to strengthening her abilities. [break][break] Undoubtedly, the demon who defeated her father was a powerful man, and the assassin needed to be prepared when the time arrived to launch her vengeance on the despicable man; all he did was take. There was a contrast between the nymph and the serenity of nature. Beneath her calm, albeit, sad exterior was intense anger towards the species which only destroyed everything she adored and depended on. Her iced over the heart was constantly shielded, Persephone's fist clenching as she diverged off the main path, heading into the thick trees. Senses were on high alert as the young woman proceeded down her path, prepared to handle anybody who could potentially cause her trouble. Smoothly, she navigated through the brush, the sounds of running water filling her years as she moved closer to her planned destination. Trees gradually cleared until they revealing a break in the forest, a river of water passing through. [break][break] She moved closer, inching towards the rocky river bed. For a few moments, she watched the water before backing away and kicking off her black shoes and rolling off the thin jacket she wore. Beneath revealed a navy-coloured tank top, a pair of black shorts reaching to her mid-thigh maintaining decency. The shoes were placed underneath a tree, the jacket carefully placed on one of the hanging branches above. There was a subtle waver to the branch, however, Persephone ignored it, turning back towards the running water. In her bare feet, she crossed through the grass, the blades tickling her calloused feet. She navigated the rocky riverbed cautiously, a breath being sucked into the depths of her lungs. The air was held before being slowly exhaled, the nymph's hands moving up as she began to fixate on the water. [break][break] Sharply, she moved her right hand, a tendril of water leaving the safety of the stream. It was drawn closer, Persephone focusing as she began quickly moving the water, forming more tendrils as time proceeded. They twisted around one another in spirals, heading towards the sky before rocketing down back to the riverbed. The movements of the nymph's body guided them, the assassin evidently enthralled by her craft. Hastily, the water moved towards the ground, bending at a 90-degree angle at the last second, Persephone bringing her tendrils closer after the meagre beginner lesson. There was plenty to do in her intense training regiment.
[attr="class","curragebot"]Old thread from Spring 2019 I want to use. I really want to tackle Persephone's mental state since this is after some good plot points. >.>
The man had been wandering the Calico Forest as it was, well, home to him. He was currently just out walking about in search of some fresh herbs and perhaps some plants to help out. He was at ease traversing the forest, though, of course, the dangers of such monstrous creatures known only as Terrors could still be a danger to himself. It wasn't like he was stupid to be completely unprotected in the vast forest. He could easily call upon the plants to come to his aid if he needed protection, that and he always had a small knife with him for protection reasons. He moved easily off the trail, having no troubles in finding his way home as the plants did help guide him back.
However, he came to a stop as he came across a river, standing in the shade and between some foliage as he watched some woman on the other side of the river manipulate the water. The man tilted his head to the side slightly as he observed her quietly, deciding on the fact that she was either a fellow Nymph - of a different sub-species that is - or someone who had the ability to manipulate water. Though he couldn't be certain and just remained where he was as he watched her for however long she manipulated the water for. Once she seemed done with playing with some tendrils of water he smiled and placed a hand on the trunk of a tree, looking up at it.
"Why don't we say hello then, hm?" He spoke up softly to the tree, his intentions to remain hidden still at the forefront of his mind as, well, the woman was a stranger. The man took a small step back and moved behind it, soon kneeling down as he placed his hand on the ground. Tingling energy ran down his arms and out of his hand as the grass shifted slightly before roots emerged from the ground, soon crawling towards the river like earthly snakes. The creaking and groaning of the roots surely would have caught her attention as they moved closer to the river's edge. The Nymph poked his head around the tree a little, still hidden for the time being, as he wanted to see her reaction to the roots of the tree practically surging to 'life'. It was ironic though, seeing how they were already alive to begin with.
Arms reached for the skies as Persephone stretched her body in preparation for the upcoming stunts she would be performing. As an assassin, she needed to sharpen all her possible skills to avoid the bittersweet sensation of death. A long-awaited reuniting with her father at the sorrowful expense of losing her opportunity for vengeance against the demon who murdered him... THAT DEMONIC BASTARD WOULD SUFFER FOR WHAT HE DID! The nymph's eyes narrowed with determination as she finished the remainder of her stretches.
[break][break]
The short-haired woman stepped forward, feet embracing the rock's warmth and now dampened state as she inched closer to the edge. A deep breath was sucked into the depths of her lungs, her eyes squeezing shut as she prepared for a focus dependent section of her routine. Creak, groan, creak. The noises sounded suddenly, prompting the razor-sharp instincts of the trained assassin to activate. From the river arrived a freshly created tendril of water, stony eyes hastily opening as she smoothly turned on her heel towards the noise.
[break][break]
There her eyes noticed it, the roots of the surrounding trees on the adjacent bank infiltrating the water. Plants did not accomplish these tasks single-handedly, therefore, somebody was nearby. As a criminal, Persephone prepared herself for the worse possibility; somebody more than willing to attack her. She took a step back from the rock's edge.
[break][break]
"You're not scaring me! Now show yourself!" She shouted, her voice stern and neutral.
[break][break]
There was a lack of fear as Persephone spoke her words. As somebody adjusted to being involved in combat situations, she did not scare easily. The water tendril was manipulated to surround her out of defensive preparation. If somebody was in the vicinity, she was clueless as to their location. She needed to defend herself until she ascertained that information, and from there, she would move forward. The assassin's stone-coloured eyes combed the area for somebody hiding, however, from her position it was difficult to see the mysterious manipulator.
[break][break]
Throughout her area analysis, Persephone simultaneously searched for an escape plan in case there were multiple individuals. Besides, she, fortunately, brought no valuable items when she marched from Lorsette and headed into the Calico Forest; meaning, if needed she could turn tail and flee. She was hopeful the circumstances would not force that conclusion, but Persephone cared more about surviving the potential altercation.
The Nymph remained where he was as he observed the woman with light amusement in his eyes as he pulled his hands away from the ground, thus halting the movement of the roots. What an interesting reaction. However, he also didn't want to be attacked when he came out from his current hiding spot. He stood up, making sure to use the tree as a shield to hide himself still, and reached a hand out to touch a bush that had no previous buds on them. It took a moment but with his ability he changed the genetics of the bush a little and the plant shivered slightly before buds slowly began to emerge and eventually bloomed into rather beautiful flowers with each flower bearing unique colors.
Perhaps that would put the person at ease? He could only hope, he pulled his hand away from the bloomed bush and stepped out from behind the tree and gently walked between the flowered bush and the other bush that still looked the same as it did formerly. He raised his hands up a little with his palms facing the guarded woman. "Please don't be alarmed, I bear no ill will. I couldn't help but say hello through the tree. I apologize if I have caught you off guard." He spoke up, voice still soft and gentle.
"I was passing by and couldn't help but take notice of you controlling the water there." He went on, slowly lowering his hands to gently hold them in front of himself a little, his fingers hooking onto one another slightly. He wasn't looking for a fight, and hopefully the woman would pick that up with how he was positioned as well. "My name is Aristole, I live not too far from here." He spoke up, tilting his head to the side slightly.
"What brings you all the way out here?" He asked after a moment, genuinely curious as to why she was out in the forest by her lonesome but at the same time he would be respectful about her privacy as well. It wasn't often that he came across other people out in the wilderness where he lived, aside from his customers that is, so it was usually nice to converse here and there with those he came across. As long as they didn't threaten him in any way that is. Then that just wouldn't do, now would it?
Assassins were trained in stealth, however, there were always enemies lurking to snuff out problematic individuals or competition to their underground business. The list of reasons to maintain an alert state of mind was endless. People despised her and desired her head atop a silver platter, therefore, she was determined to avoid death's chilling grip. Water flowed in a floating current around Persephone, her stone-coloured eyes slightly narrowed as focus consumed her. She would not be falling here!
[break][break]
The creaks of moving nature ceased after she shouted her words. The short-haired woman's eyes narrowed further, a moment being spared to survey her surroundings. No revealed foes or trees reaching to bat her off her rocky perch. The grass was stationary except for the rustling of wind and algae remained in its watery bed. As she skimmed her surroundings, her observant eyes caught the subtle quiver of a bush. The female nymph's water was shifted to the forefront in preparation to shield herself or create an offence.
[break][break]
The leaves rustled, Persephone's eyes narrowing as she prepared for a physical assault. Suddenly, buds poked from the depth of the leaf-covered bush. A brow lifted in response to the peculiar happenings, however, the emotion-lacking assassin kept her guard up. From a tree beside the colourful blooms appeared a man, his hands shortly reaching for the skies. Intelligent one, he realized he created a tense situation with his plant-based antics. Another quick observation of her surroundings was accomplished as she awaited an explanation.
[break][break]
A soft voice escaped the stranger's lips as he explained his method of greeting via a tree. It seemed probable the purple-haired man was a hippie. Gradually, the assumed plant enthusiast lowered his hands as peace was requested. With an inaudible sigh Persephone allowed the water to retreat to the stream, however, her muscles remained tense. Trust issues were natural when one killed people for a living. The short-haired woman's eyes locked onto the stranger as he spoke, her countenance unreadable. Based on the man's body language, it seemed unlikely he was searching to start a brawl.
[break][break]
The man willingly provided his name, Aristole, however, the favour would not be returned unless requested. Releasing her name would result in no consequences, but Persephone was somebody who preferred limiting the information she provided. Besides, with the demonic mongrel roaming around, she craved the ability to surprise him and mercilessly murder him. At the end of the man's words, he inquired about her reasons for venturing out here.
[break][break]
"I'm practicing my water manipulation," Persephone answered in a neutral tone.
[break][break]
Shortening the answer to the obscure notion of practicing her favoured ability was a simple way to avoid follow-up questions. If she stated training, somebody would easily inquire about the task she was training for. However, practicing could suggest a simple intrigue in her abilities. Throughout the exchange of words, Persephone's eyes remained locked on the stranger she discovered in case he attempted to accomplish any questionable actions. So far, Aristole displayed the characteristics of somebody walking through the woods around his property.
[break][break]
There was nothing illegal about the action, thus, Persephone could not reasonably question his actions. Nonetheless, her instincts screamed at her to remain cautious until the mysterious plant manipulator earned her trust.
He listened to the woman's words in response to his question, nodding his head a little. "I see, it is also good to practice the skills we have. Whether they be magical or not." He responded, moving closer to the water only to stop by the roots that had emerged from the ground. He took a moment to take his eyes off of the woman and reached a hand out to touch the root, more noise coming from it as he had it grow in size and curl slightly before he removed his hand. A perfect place to sit now if he thought so himself.
He shifted before he sat down on it, relaxed and still showing no signs of attacking the woman. "I did not catch your name, might I have it so I know what I may call you?" He spoke up, tilting his head to the side slightly with a friendly smile being offered out to her. "I must ask, and forgive me if I sound prying it is not often I get the chance to talk with others, but are you a Nymph?" He added, genuinely curious and again not meaning anything offensive or, well, threatening.
The man Persephone encountered was peculiar in her opinion. Somebody living amidst the trees, a genuine connector with nature and its arts. There were plenty who procured the use of plant manipulation, many having a connection to those ties like faekin or nymphs. Despite this man potentially being among her species, the short-haired woman's countenance remained stern. Anybody could have ill-wishes towards her, therefore, the assassin was never one to be particularly expressive. The less her enemy knew about her mental state, the more favourable of circumstances.
[break][break]
Praise escaped the man's lips as he commended her for practicing her skills in water manipulating skills. Despite her admittance, Persephone planned on keeping her skill level a secret from the stranger. Should he inquire about specifically what she was practicing, she would feign the artistic craft of dancing alongside her manipulated currents. Among nymphs, water dancing was something accomplished for beauty and to assist humans in admiring their water-filled land. They originally arrived to advocate for nature after all.
[break][break]
Motionlessly, she watched him with her stone-coloured eyes. Noticing him approach the water's edge and discover a location to sit. He inquired about her name, something she hoped would be overlooked.
[break][break]
"Persephone," she said, providing a one-word answer.
[break][break]
Only moments later did the Aristole ask whether or not she was a nymph... presumably, this man matched her species, albeit, one connected with plants opposed to water.
[break][break]
"Yes, am I right to assume you are as well," Persephone answered in her regular neutral tone.
[break][break]
After providing her answer, she kneeled and entered a sitting position. Her legs were folded into a cross-legged position, eyes locked on the acquaintance she discovered in the woods. Letting her guard down was never easy, therefore, her body remained tense.
Sitting on the thick roots he had manipulated to grow a bit for him to sit, the Nymph listened to the woman's short words with a nod of acknowledgement. So her name was Persephone and she was a Nymph as well. A smile crossed his face and he held a hand out, palm up, to the side slightly as if to show off the plants of the forest. "Indeed I am. I am that of the plants though, hence why I live so far away from the city." He spoke up, resting his hands gently in his lap as he trained his eyes on the woman just on the other side of the river. He went quiet for a few moments, listening to the flow of the water, the leaves of the trees moving in the breeze, and some birds singing from the branches.
He tilted his head to the side slightly and smiled once more, completely at ease from where he was. "It is quite the delight to come across another of my species. You look very stoic for a Nymph though. Did something upset you? I know a few herbal remedies to help ease the nerves." He spoke up, leaning forward slightly as he rested his elbow against his knee and his chin in the palm of his hand. He was quite knowledgeable indeed when it came to herbs and other plant stuff. Both the innocent and not so innocent means of use from them.
Never was Persephone particularly skilled in displaying her emotions openly, furthermore, a natural preference to remain alert plagued the assassin. Releasing one's guard was a frightful notion to somebody adjusted to combat to extreme degrees. Anybody could prove to be an opponent searching for a fight, the sheer thought maintaining a shielded gaze and phlegmatic expression. The warm surface of the rock kept the water nymph comfortable as she sat cross-legged, watching Aristole. He spoke words of peace and placed those concepts into effect, however, the assassin was hesitant to lend him trust.
[break][break]
Her hands folded into her lap, back displaying a disciplined straight posture as her stone-coloured eyes remained locked on the mysterious man. As though intoned with the situation, her ears listened to the world around her, searching for the possibility of questionable footsteps. She noticed the man's smile, imbuing his facial features with happiness and benevolence as he spoke of his species and reason for living in the words. A plant nymph living inside Calico Forest was probable given the effects pollution held on their species.
[break][break]
The forest was a safer location for their kind, furthermore, it arrived with the wondrous beauty of nature. The short-haired woman could hardly blame the light-haired man for picking the gorgeous location. She nodded in acknowledgement to his words about living in the forest and allowed him to continue. She rarely added to conversations, impart due to her lack of sociability with others. The man proceeded to speak about how delightful it was to meet another individual of his species, although, he picked up on her attitude.
[break][break]
"I am usually like this," she explained to clear any concerns.
[break][break]
The explanation was followed by Persephone's arm being crossed, however, there were no twists of anger upon her face. She was not upset about his assumption, rather, she wished to shift a little.
The Nymph kept his eyes trained on the stoic woman as she responded to how she behaved, nodding a little in acknowledgement. "Ah, I see. Well, I am more than happy to share any herbal remedies should you need any, of course." He spoke up, smiling as he tilted his head to the side slightly. The purple-haired man laid his hands on his lap gently, still sitting on the thick root he had manipulated to be formed into a seat for the time being. "If I may inquire... How often do you come out here? It is quite a good location to practice our innate abilities." He mentioned, raising a hand with the palm facing the ground as the grass below it shivered and grew a little before he withdrew his hand and placed it in his lap as if to make his point.
"Don't let me keep you from practicing. It is quite intriguing to observe how we each use our abilities in different ways." He added, giving the woman a smile once more as he felt a breeze brush by. Granted it was unlikely that the woman would come back to this location, but that didn't mean he had to pass up on the opportunity to get to know her or, well, observe.
Everything felt tucked under the sleeve by the man she engaged in conversation with, or perhaps, it was her cynicism championing her mind. Initially, the stranger attempted to startle her with his antics, now, he exhibited a wish for casual conversation? Does one not merely engage with wishes of the best? Although, the provided circumstance provided a reason for his hesitance to leave the bush and greet her. Either way, Persephone maintained an innate caution as she interacted with her fellow nymph, not settled by their share in species.
[break][break]
Anybody could prove problematic, and the short-haired woman would maintain that belief. Earning the treasure chest of trust was a difficult game for those desiring Persephone's favour. Every word she listened to as the man offered remedies and trades. Alas, she stayed motionless sitting cross-legged on the stone overseeing the riverside. Was he a businessman or was it a cover-up? The suspicions entering her mind kicked into overdrive, solely from her questionable past experience and the nature of her dangerous job.
[break][break]
She allowed the inquiries, words being strung together while the man spoke. He requested information about her training regiment.
[break][break]
"Every once and a while," she informed him, adding slight casualness.
[break][break]
The nymph wanted to eliminate any beliefs of her training being a job requirement. A goal was pedestalled in her mind, to complete the conversation and escape. The offer to allow her practice to proceed was met with a silent and polite dismissive wave. She preferred to avoid further observations of her training regiment, therefore, the woman held no plans to perform.
The Nymph listened to her short response, smiling as he nodded in acknowledgement. Such a talkative one, this woman. "I see! Well, perhaps we could meet again the next time you come here to practice your abilities." He mentioned, raising a hand to rest a finger against his cheek lightly as he tilted his head to the side. He wasn't sure if the woman would agree to such a thing, but it would be really nice to interact with someone every now and then in his isolated home.
He lowered his hand away from his head as he allowed it to caress the thick root he was seated upon. He did honestly prefer the things of nature over most people, but... Well, even he needed people interaction from time to time. At least that would keep him from being a hermit and all.
The man's thirst for conversation manifested difficulties for the young water nymph. Escape was desired for Persephone with every ticking second. The young assassin never favoured conversation, the sociable life failing to maintain her interest. The woman was ill-suited for those endeavours, however, feigned a definition of capability even if limited. Maintaining the secret of her occupation was crucial, less Ace start screaming in her ears... The short-tempered hellspawn of a leader was a pain to handle.
[break][break]
Silently, Persephone remained positioned are the hard rock, legs crossed. After a few moments, the nymph's arms went up, a hand wrapping around her wrist. The assassin arched her back, stretching her shoulders and arms. She craved the opportunity to return to her training, however, she refused to reveal her cards to a possible enemy. Although, the man's words sent the message of future training sessions being near-impossible. The stranger wished to interact with her again despite her ill-favourable conversation capabilities...
[break][break]
The shock flashed on her face for merely a moment and hastily retreated. Was this man lonely? Craving conversation to this intensity made Persephone believe her assumption.
[break][break]
"Maybe," she said, giving an ambiguous answer.
[break][break]
Admittedly, Persephone desired to search for a different location to train. The man proved friendly and benevolent, however, the nymph's cynicism kept her distrusting of him. Nobody attempted to get close without a motive, therefore, the assassin planned on avoiding him if possible after this interaction.
Her short answer was certainly something, the potential of them meeting again did give him some hope in getting to have further interactions with the mysterious woman. "Ah! Well that might give us some good fortune to see one another again!" He piped up, raising his hands to clasp his hands together. Yes, that would be very nice indeed. Perhaps he'd have the plants within the forest help him find the woman again so that he could maybe get her to open up more and to just... Well, have some more social interaction. "How long do you intend on staying? Oh! Do feel free to continue practicing! I do not wish to keep you from it, I find it rather impressive." He spoke up, tilting his head to the side a little.
Understanding why this mysterious man desired her attention was beyond Persephone. She never considered herself an interesting person to converse with, especially with her unwillingness to fork over personal information. Being sociable was supposed to arrive with connections between others, was it not? Lacking the ability to introduce somebody to some personal details was bound to make her unsuitable. Yet, here stood Aristole, seemingly happier as sunshine with conversing with her without a single hindrance in his speech.
[break][break]
Quietly, Persephone sat upon her rock, adjusting her position. Her crossed legs moved from their positioning, straightening out before bringing them to her chest. Carefully, she settled her chin atop her knees, stone-coloured eyes staring at the light-haired man. Her arms slunk around her legs, hanging around them as she listened to her unwanted companion. She desired to return to her training, however, her intense cynicism kept her from those actions. Then when the man insisted again, she felt the suspicion flicker into her eyes before hastily fleeing.
[break][break]
The man's wishes to watch her train was placing the assassin on edge. She wanted to keep her tactics hidden to avoid detection or a rival aware of her capabilities.
[break][break]
"Not sure," she answered with a subtle haste. "And I'm fine."
[break][break]
Returning to training was impossible with somebody observing her! As a warrior of the night, Persephone wished to avoid anybody recognizing her fighting style if it could be helped.
