Welcome to The Duality of Man, an original animanga role-play that features numerous supernatural creatures. Unfortunately, these various species have distanced themselves because of the war that occurred thousands of years ago, plaguing some with eyes that only see their dualism. While others meddle themself with their differences, two groups fight, each attempting to eliminate the other in for their definition of worldly peace. These two groups of the Terror Response Syndicate (TRS) and the Assembly of Phantoms (AP). With individuals fighting merely over their differences, it brings uncertainty to the outcome of this war.
We happily accept all role-players as long as they obey the rules and are capable of meeting our word count of 50. This does include those who are unfamiliar with this style of role-playing. The staff of The Duality of Man are willing to happily help those who are new to the role-playing world so they feel comfortable on site. Feel free to message the staff if you need help, they can be found here or in the site Discord and will gladly answer questions alongside calm concerns. If you have any suggestions we would love to hear them; guests may use the support board as a suggestion area as well. Should you decide to join, may I say welcome to the site and we all hope you enjoy your time here.

Summer 2024
Heat has broken through into a glorious summer. The snow has entirely dried through the spring, leaving to the brilliance of the warmer months. Terror activity has risen as people are brought out of their homes, leaving the TRS in a position of consistent work. Each are attempting to maintain victory in the endless struggle for power.
Since the wonderful members of TDOM enjoy the site enough to play around on it, this thread is to assist with the site's tidying! Functionality is important and we want to make the site functional even if its activity will be minimal at best!
Duties were unceremoniously laid upon Persephone's shoulder by her mysterious boss, Ace. Requirements were given by the leader of the Dark Brotherhood accompanied by unexpected assistance. Despite her Heaven-based species, Ace agreed to assist her in finding the demonic bastard while she handled somebody else... The crooked demon managed to get his filthy hands on Kayla, transforming her into a twisted, mangled version of what was originally there. The innocent and ditzy young, beautiful woman Persephone adored got replaced by someone entirely different.
[break][break]
It inspired a sense of anger in Persephone, her failure to protect Kayla manifesting these emotions. Months ago she loved Kayla, the nephilim earning her affection, however, the cold-blooded murderer she transformed into was not somebody she wished to associate herself with. While the nymph desired more personal time, Ace placed a task upon her shoulders to seek out Kayla and get her under control. Unfortunately, that would require Persephone to find the murderous nephilim, something which she was uncertain if she was prepared for.
[break][break]
During the evening hours, Persephone has wrapped herself in dark clothing. Loose-fitting black pants and a long-sleeved shirt was placed beneath a large cloak that was draped over her shoulders. The hood was drawn up, the fringes of the cape ending just below Persephone's calves. A black scarf was wrapped tightly around the lower section of Persephone's face, successfully hiding her facial features. Weapons were arranged on her body, hidden in case she should be required to fight against a stranger or possibly Kayla.
[break][break]
Once prepared, she exited the small house she labelled as her home. Hastily, she weaved through the alleyway, heading to a nearby apartment building which would provide her with a method to reach the rooftops. The female assassin reached her route to the rooftops, using a fire escape. Her soft footsteps carried her up the metallic stairs, allowing her to access the roof of a nearby apartment building. When she arrived, the short-haired woman glanced around, stone-coloured eyes narrowed as she searched for the familiar figure of Kayla Ann.
[break][break]
There was a chance Kayla could be watching her, observing her from an unknown location, however, confirming that information would be impossible until she found her. After completing her survey, Persephone ran across the roof, thumb popping the lid from her water container. Closer, her footsteps brought her speeding towards the edge, however, there was no hesitation as she moved, each step already confirmed. Upon reaching the edge, Persephone jumped, soaring briefly before her body plummeted from the high-up location.
[break][break]
Quickly, water flowed from the container secured to her, manipulated to act as a slide-like structure for Persephone to "surf" down to the following rooftop. Smoothly, she rode the water, generating a current used to keep her suspended as she moved to the next location. She landed silently, water returning to the specialized poach immediately as her body began moving, heading to jump onto the next rooftop. Assumptions were being formulated, the assassin thinking Kayla was hidden somewhere in the outskirts, the location where criminals could easily operate.
[break][break]
With that thought captured inside her mind, Persephone's search began, the short-haired woman hoping she could track down a murderer in the vast city of Lorsette. This would be no simple task, however, she was determined to find Kayla and try to finally stop her.

Kayla yawned a bit as she looked at the building in front of her. It was a bit boring just waiting for her target to come out of this damn place. Like how can one just sit at their work and work extra hours. So stupid she thought. Her target, a pretty innocent demon. Yes there are some good demons in this hell hole of place called earth. In her mind, the races should be separate. Go back to heaven or hell and let the earth species have their peace again. But that will never happen. The demons house was on the outskirts of the city. Most likely cause he couldn't get a decent place inside the city because he is demon. That was just her thought process now. She didn't see good or evil anymore. She just saw demons or other species. And all demons should be killed. No question asked.
It was mostly due to the demon that had kidnapped her and put her through so much crap that she became like this. Her personality distorted beyond repair. The only good thing she got out of it, was the ability to fight on equal terms with anyone other than a god. The demon forcefully taught her how to use her teleportation in all kinds of ways to fight. Along with her future sight. These were the two things the demon focused on with Kayla. Her future sight can now see about ten or so seconds into the future. But her energy drains fairy fast if she uses it a lot. It is more or less just a defense mechanism at this point. But her bread and butter is her teleportation. She has focused less and less on putting a lot of energy into healing and practicing more on teleportation. So now she can teleport a lot during a fight without getting tired.
Kayla stood up from her little perch on the building as she saw someone walking. As she stretched a little bit. "Waiting for hours for you." she said to herself before vanishing from sight. As she has appeared in front of the demon. As she took her sword and jabbed the pummel into the mid section of the demon as it fell to the ground coughing. "Now now now. Not too loud. Don't want people to hear you." Kayla said as she grabbed the demon by the shirt and teleported pretty high in the air. High enough that if she were to drop the demon. It would die. As she held onto the demon, wings manifested on her back and started to flap to keep her hovering.
"So, lets have a chat" she said, as she started to ask about the demon who had captured her and where he was, and if this demon knew anything about him. You see since meeting with Percy, she has stopped mostly taking their contracts. And more or less just started to hunt demons and send them back to hell where they belong. Not in the world of the living.
After she had a little a chat with the demon, threatening to drop him a couple times he finally spoke saying he knew nothing of the demon that had taken Kayla. She sighed a bit. As the man asked if she would let him go. Kayla just stared at the man, her cold blue eyes almost lifeless "Who said you were going to live-" she was saying as she let go of the man and he started to plummet to the ground. "Sooooory my hand slipped." she yelled out to the demon as he kept falling and falling. Then finally a thud echoed through the alleyway and surrounding area of the demon hitting the pavement.
"Now to find my next target for the night." she said to herself as she just looked down at the dead demon. Her cold eyes not even showing any kind of guilt or anything to what she just did as she hover there. Her wings flapping every so often to keep her hovering.
Cold, night air embraced Persephone as her search continued, stone-coloured eyes surveying the area around her in desperate hopes of finding Kayla. A mission was placed upon her shoulders and the nymph was determined to carry out her duties. It was an expectation placed upon her shoulders, one which required honouring because of her occupation. Mercy from Ace was something rare, thus Persephone had no intentions of squandering her opportunity to persuade Kayla away from this destructive path she followed.
[break][break]
On the dangerous path of murderous intentions and malice-filled actions, anybody could meet their demise at any moment. In the light of innocence, people stood a better chance of surviving their situation without issue. She prayed for Akari's guidance during these moments to find a method of escape for Kayla. Alas, the persuasion would be required to arrive first, Persephone recognizing there was plenty of topics which she needed to get through. Thoughts surfaced in the nymph's head as she contemplated how to convince Kayla to cease her murderous rampage.
[break][break]
A soft sigh escaped Persephone's lips as she glanced around from the rooftop, trying to find the murderous, long-haired woman amidst the many buildings and hiding place. She moved hesitantly through the outskirts, eyes steadily moving as she attempted to seek the woman she needed to find. Alas, with Kayla being a nephilim, the task would not be easily accomplished since teleportation accompanied by wing manifestation was in her arsenal of abilities. When the nymph finally discovered the dark-haired woman, she could easily disappear and escape from her.
[break][break]
Only one thing kept Persephone's hopes, which was the emotions shared between them months ago, before Kayla transformed into this frightening monstrosity of her former self. She lurked through the buildings, senses prepared as she searched for somebody. She proceeded through the outskirts, observing the scenery until she finally notice somebody hovering above. Stealthily, Persephone moved closer, ears primed as she sneaked to the rooftop. A shrill scream cracked through the air before the sickening thud of somebody hitting the pavement hard.
[break][break]
A haste entered Persephone's movements as she pulled herself over, grey eyes narrowing as she saw a familiar figure. There, hovering in the air with her wings was Kayla Ann, the individual she needed to speak to. The assassin reached up and pulled the scarf down to speak.
[break][break]
"You should stop," the nymph spoke.
[break][break]
The short, assassin stood confidently, back straight as her hard eyes stared at Kayla. She would not back down and Persephone refused to allow her emotions to take control. She was required to carry out this mission, both for Ace's sake alongside her own. Nobody else would stop Kayla in an effective way. Failure meant several things, imprisonment, death or the digging of a hole so deep nobody could crawl out. For years, Persephone lived with the final option, residing in a place where escape was impossible because of the crimes she committed and she did not want that for Kayla.

❧
Kayla looked at the blood that had started flow around the body of the man. She was almost proud sometimes, killing things was a lot more fun than she had thought it was. As she was just about ready to teleport away. She heard a familiar voice. As her stone cold blue eyes turned it's way.
Percy was there. Why was she here? She asked herself. Last time they talked. She seemed pretty done with Kayla. To the point Kayla got all of her stuff out of the house when Percy was away. Her murderous tone changing instantly to a more playful. The blood-lust aura around her fading. As she waved a Percy. "Hiiiii" she said playfully.
When she suddenly vanished from floating in front of Percy. And appeared to the side of Percy. Poking her cheek. "You looking good. Hvnt talked in a while. Did you miss meeee." she said as he looked at her with a slight smile.
Kayla, walked around Percy as she took out a knife from her belt and started to flip it around. "If you came here to make me stop. Which is probably the case, mostly due to your pipsqueak boss, he's really short. Almost like a kid." she said with a bit of chuckle. "Am I ruining business for you?" she asked... before Percy could even answer, she started to talk again. "Well too bad." she shrugged a bit as she walked to the one of the chimneys as her wings vanished and she leaned her back against it.
"I aint stopping till every demon, undead, or whatever that fucking asshole that did this to me is connected to. And as such, you should stay out of my way." As she just glared at Percy. Her eyes most serious. She wasn't lying. Even if it destroyed her relationships. Kayla was going to her revenge no matter what.
There was nothing humorous about the present situation. The sickening actions which unfolded in front of Persephone were proof Kayla's bloodthirsty attitude still existed. Hatred existed in the formerly sweet-heart of a woman, something which the short-haired would have never expected. The woman she knew before this incident would have never considered killing as a viable method of vengeance. The blood lust displayed by her former crush was frightening and merciless. Disapproval appeared on Persephone's countenance as she watched Kayla.
[break][break]
Abruptly, the nephilim's behaviour shifted, showing the murderous display to a playful attitude. The nymph crossed her arms, eyes narrowing at Kayla as she listened to her words. Everything about her behaviours had changed, transforming and altering into the monster manifested before her. Never had Persephone expected the woman she adored to abruptly become a murderous savage. There was a smile on the dark-haired woman's face when she greeted, even adding a cheek poke, however, the tone shifted as Kayla guessed Persephone's intentions for being here.
[break][break]
The short-haired assassin's eyes followed Kayla when possible, the woman refusing to speak until Kayla finished. The behaviour exhibited was concerning, however, the commands of Persephone's boss, Ace, lingered in her mind. As a member of the Dark Brotherhood, she was expected to complete her task without failure. Hearing Kayla's prejudices towards hell and undead species was a noticeable difference. After everything that occurred, Persephone could easily guess it was from the actions which radically changed Kayla.
[break][break]
"You're reckless," Persephone commented. "You should stop before you end up thrown in a jail cell rotting away. And... You're not the one who will kill that bastard, he is mine."
[break][break]
Determination flared in Persephone's stone eyes as thoughts shifted to the man who killed her father. She refused to allow anybody else to accomplish her ultimate goal. In the nymph's tone, there was a lack of love and emotions, her feelings cast aside. The differences in the dark-haired woman's personality were repulsive to Persephone, the lack of respect for her victims being something hated by her. As an assassin, she was taught to treat those she killed with some kindness. A quick death when possible, but the mission came first. Only kill when necessary, yet, she found herself on a vendetta against a murderer.

❧
Kayla watched as Percy's emotion flared a bit at her words. Probably from mention the demon and how Kayla was going to be the one that was going to kill them. But it seems the cold assassin did show some emotion while out on the job. Kayla looked at Percy for a moment before shrugging. "If you can even find him first."
As Kayla walked to the edge of the building and looked towards the city with it's tall buildings, lights illuminating the sky. "I will have his head. Then maybe I wont feel like this anymore." she admitted. "Cause as of right now, there is no way I can just drop what I am doing and be fine." As she turned to Percy and looked at her. Some of that coldness leaving her eyes for a moment as she looked at her past love with a plea for help. "You weren't there. You had no idea what he did to me. Made me do." she started as her hand started to shake a bit from remembering. "He made me kill, if I didn't he tortured me. I waited and waited for you. But you never showed. My knight in white armor never came to save me." As she grabbed the hand that was shaking. "So I saved myself."
"In process, I shut out what was making me weak. My fear, my sadness...love. All blocked so I could do what your father and you were probably going to do anyway before he died." she said as she let go of her hand. It wasn't shaking anymore, instead it had started to clutch the sword on her waist "Yes I've known what you and your father are. Have for a while. Just stayed quiet about because I loved you." she said as she looked at Percy. "I see a lot of him in you. It is sad what had happened. I thought of him as my father after all" As she drew the sword.
"But I will not go back to you nor will you stop me. You have lied to me for the last time. And since I've been alone, I feel free. So the only way you are going to get me to stop, is by severing my head from my shoulders." she said as she took a fighting stance. This was it, either Kayla goes down by the women she still loves or she will be tossed in jail to rot.
Care no longer existed between Persephone and Kayla, however, the nymph's love for the dark-haired woman was long shattered. The radical changes featured in the nephilim's personality manifested a dislike of her attitude and murderous actions. The blood-thirsty behaviour was cared about more than their relationship, it became obvious with the joyous manner she spoke about killing. Her favoured activity was official murder and Persephone refused to stand beside those notions of murder being a hobby opposed to something connected with the occupation.
[break][break]
Words escaped the woman's lips, Persephone's eyes narrowing as she watched her closely. Her steel-coloured eyes were focused on Kayla, listening to the words she stated. The dark-haired woman had plenty to say, and the nymph listened to her words. Her dialogue made it obvious the nephilim had no plans on changing her behaviour. There was a carelessness in her eyes as Persephone listened to the woman. There was nothing that could be resolved through talking and while those feelings of love were discarded, the nymph refused to accomplish physical action.
[break][break]
The short-haired woman admittedly felt bad for Kayla and the circumstances she endured, but nothing could be done. The malicious bastard won, obvious by the changes the nephilim exhibited. He created a monster, played the situation in his favour. She planned on getting revenge for both of them, her hatred burning brighter after listening to Kayla's words. Fingers were wrapped around a sword as Kayla declared the requirement to kill her, a fighting stance being taken. The nymph remained motionless, her eyes locked on the nephilim.
[break][break]
"Then he won. You defended yourself, but you became what he wanted you to be," she responded in an emotionless tone. "I'm not fighting you if I don't have to. I'm just hoping you realize your falling into his plans and I'm not joining in that. You can rot in a jail cell. If you want help, then stop what you're doing. If you really enjoy this, find a better way to. Don't be the monster he is looking for."
[break][break]
There was an emotionless tone to Persephone's voice as she carefully watched Kayla. Pain echoed in her heart, however, she refused to crumble. Fighting and subsequently killing the nephilim would only be accomplished if there were no other ways out. Feelings were pushed away, however, her mind still remembered the sweet, young girl she adored and later secretly loved. Options were becoming limited and if required, Persephone planned on fighting back. The actions accomplished by the blood-lusting girl prompted the assassin to pop off the lid from the bag which cared her water.
And while you are sitting indoors waiting for the storm to pass I will be outside dancing in the rain
❧
Kayla listening as she talked. Her brow raising once she was done, her brain processing what Percy had just said. Her grip around her sword tightened quite bit as the star filled sky soon was blocked by clouds. She was defiantly angry. "See you don't even care what happened to me. All on your mind is that fucking asshole." She said as some lighting could be seen flashing down a couple blocks away. "You have never once cared for me. I was only just a pawn to you, someone to heal you when you were hurt. No wonder you never came looking for me." She said with frustration in anger could be heard in her voice. The fact that she thinks Percy never once even searched for her, nor the fact that even now in the instance when she is trying to make her stop, her focus is on that devil not her.
As the lighting started to get closer and closer, most likely going to strike one of them. Kayla had no control over this power what so ever, even in her new state where she has mastery over all of her other powers. The weather manipulation control just put such a toll on her body if she tried to control it. But when it is fueled by emotions it has a mind of it's own. And this was one of the worst it has been in a long, long time. The only other time was when Percy's father was killed and she found out. She nearly killed her self and Percy with lighting. Her anger fueling the power like no other.
Kayla looked at Percy as she cleared a single tear from her eye. She was hurt, feeling betrayed and very angry. As the lighting got closer and closer with each strike. She would never try to fight Percy, not in a million years. But she didn't know what else to do. She wanted to kill the asshole that did this to her the most. But Percy is kinda right, she is turning into a monster as the days pass. But did she really mind? She loved being in control of her powers for once. Was turning into a monster what she truly wanted?
They say everybody holds a purpose, and Persephone considered her's tracking down the malicious demon who took everything from her. She needed to strike him down for the souls of the past required their vengeance, else she considered herself a failure as an assassin. Every evening he spent living beneath the same moon infuriated her to no end, only motivating the boiling water inside her soul. The phlegmatic nymph considered it her duty after the demon washed his hands in her father's blood then later removed any resemblance of the woman she once loved.
[break][break]
Clouds consumed the once gorgeous night sky, stars being hidden beneath a layer of dark grey. The nymph stiffened slightly, recognizing the traits of Kayla's weather manipulating abilities. The situation would be turning sour shortly based on the changes in the environment. Alert, Persephone stood where she was, grey eyes meeting Kayla's face as she began to spoke. Bright flashes lit the rooftop accompanied by the loud rumble of thunder. The nymph's hands clenched into a fist at Kayla's unproven statements.
[break][break]
The woman was imprisoned, she would never know if she searched for her or not. Anger edged the nephilim's voice at her blind accusations, that were false. The assassin had attempted to find Kayla, however, it was a difficult task. The demon was elusive and nearly impossible to find... Lightning strikes around them as the situation turned tense. Subtle anger entered Persephone's veins as her eyes fixated on Kayla.
[break][break]
"You're right! Because I went looking for the sweet healer I loved, not the monstrous murderer you became!" the nymph shouted. "But I sadly, I am too late."
[break][break]
The assassin turned away, heart aching, but wordless as she turned on her heel. Despite the lightning strikes, the water nymph quietly walked. If Kayla wanted to walk the tight-rope path of a criminal, Persephone would not be stopping her. She came here to reason with a murderer, a foolish choice. She had held hopes a small portion of the former Kayla remained inside the monster, somebody who she could at least persuade to love. Even if her emotions were cast away because of the personality of the "new" Kayla, she wanted the woman she lived with beside her.
[break][break]
They were daughters to a similar father, one of blood the other adopted out of mercy. If not love, could they maintain those platonic interactions they once did? Alas, the crazed condition of her former crush made it painfully obvious it was unlikely. Thus, Persephone believed there was a single duty she held for the sake of her shattered family... twistedly murder the demonic bastard who broke them apart... She was the last one standing, among the few not outright murdered or morbidly altered to his image and design.
[break][break]
But was she really the single force remaining when her fixation was on revenge? Unbeknownst to her vengeance-hungry mind, she changed radically and perhaps to what the enemy wanted with her intense craving for his death.
And while you are sitting indoors waiting for the storm to pass I will be outside dancing in the rain
❧
Kayla watched as she watched Percy turn away and start walking away after saying those things. As Kayla just floated there staring at her. As the clouds dissipated as all the anger in her just vanished before she floated down the roof and landed as she just knelt down. "Why are you like this." she said to Percy. As she just looked at her. "All I ever wanted was for you to move on from hunting that bastard down and just live happily with me. After all you still had me at the time." she said as she just sat there as her sword fell out of her hands and bounced on the ground a couple times before stopping. "Like the only reason he came after me was to get into your head." she added as she just stared into the sky that started to clear up from the clouds.
"But you are so fixated on revenge that you didn't even stop to ask what I thought of it. Like of course I wanted the person that killed father to pay. But to go to the length you go was not what I wanted for you." as she paused as she started to sniffle. "All I wanted was for you to move on and be happy even if that means leaving me. Even back then I was always prepared to leave if you hadn't changed." As she actually started to cry a little bit. This was the first time since being captured that she was breaking down.
"All you have ever cared about is revenge. You never once stepped back and thought how I felt about it. Nor did you ever want to stop. I get that you are a family of assassins and you can't leave the org. But you didn't have to keep your mind fixated one person that has utterly destroyed your life." she went as she whipped the tears away. "I just wanted you to be happy." she lastly said before she took a breath to collect herself.
Kayla stood up and walked over and sheathed her sword before taking another second to regain herself. "I'll stop killing people and taking your kills." As she looked at Percy and before she could speak. "But I wont forgive you until you stop your obsession with the demon." as she teleports into the air and started to flap her wings. "Also it bit too late for me to change back into the person you once knew. So this is goodbye for good. I'll be watching you though. If you don't change I will make sure you can't hunt that demon. Learn to live before you seek that revenge." she lastly said before teleporting away to god knows where. As she just sat down and curled her knees into her chest and started to cry a lot.
Everything settled Persephone on the path of vengeance as thoughts of her father fueled a nasty requirement. Each step brought her closer to the roof's edge. Clouds dissipated, noise dying down as her decision brought no reason for a fight to transpire between herself and Kayla. The sounds of footsteps against the tiled roof. Briefly, Persephone tensed until she heard the sounds of words and a sheathing sword. The nymph remained motionless, eyes fixated on the ledge between her and the planned escape. A neutral expression planted itself on the assassin's face as she stood rigid against the words.
Words are spoken about her fixations, wishes of happiness and thoughts of others all featured in a voice riddled with the emotional turmoil from the aftermath of choices. Wisdoms were provided, suggestions to turn back and cease the unhealthy obsession on revenge. The demonic murderer's decisions based on methods to disturb the peace was undoubted, however, Persephone's conviction fueled otherwise. The demon was her enemy, somebody wishing to finish off the final individual who attempted to claim his life.
The nymph managed to survive, a symbol of her strength being the large burn scar across her back. Fate displayed kindness that eve, warranting the opportunity for her to carry out her new duty. Everything she learned taught her how to walk the plank of a bridge and avoid falling into the depths. No matter the imploring for her to discover happiness, Persephone could only stare ahead at how little she needed to go. There was no happiness until that bastard was DEAD! A blind fixation leaving her to harm those around her because of the sheer weight of her desires and titanium resolve.
Silence reigned when Kayla teleported away, not a word spoken by the cold-hearted nymph. She stood at the ledge of the roof, wondering if she fell too deep into her wishes of vengeance for but a moment. A deep breath filled Persephone's lungs as her eyes squeezed tight for a moment. Before her was a path riddled with danger, one she walked for years to destroy the individual who took everything from her. Hell species killed her family the first time... then a demon killed her father... and somebody needed to pay.
As her eyes opened, the hardened, narrowing into a glare as resolve grasped her shoulders, whispering in her ears. Should her quest fail and she stray, everything she worked towards would be for null. She needed to proceed down the path she walked! Without another thought, she manipulated the water from her pouch and jumped. Around her, the water weaved, carrying her safely down to the concrete streets below. No matter the price, she would murder that bastard!
