Welcome to The Duality of Man, an original animanga role-play that features numerous supernatural creatures. Unfortunately, these various species have distanced themselves because of the war that occurred thousands of years ago, plaguing some with eyes that only see their dualism. While others meddle themself with their differences, two groups fight, each attempting to eliminate the other in for their definition of worldly peace. These two groups of the Terror Response Syndicate (TRS) and the Assembly of Phantoms (AP). With individuals fighting merely over their differences, it brings uncertainty to the outcome of this war.
We happily accept all role-players as long as they obey the rules and are capable of meeting our word count of 50. This does include those who are unfamiliar with this style of role-playing. The staff of The Duality of Man are willing to happily help those who are new to the role-playing world so they feel comfortable on site. Feel free to message the staff if you need help, they can be found here or in the site Discord and will gladly answer questions alongside calm concerns. If you have any suggestions we would love to hear them; guests may use the support board as a suggestion area as well. Should you decide to join, may I say welcome to the site and we all hope you enjoy your time here.

season
Summer 2024
Heat has broken through into a glorious summer. The snow has entirely dried through the spring, leaving to the brilliance of the warmer months. Terror activity has risen as people are brought out of their homes, leaving the TRS in a position of consistent work. Each are attempting to maintain victory in the endless struggle for power.
Since the wonderful members of TDOM enjoy the site enough to play around on it, this thread is to assist with the site's tidying! Functionality is important and we want to make the site functional even if its activity will be minimal at best!
It was the spooky season and danika was absolutely excited. The summer season had never been her favorite. She preferred the cool air, warm sweaters, boots and of course the changing of the leaves. She had lucked out as today she didn’t have to work the night shift and she could enjoy the hayride that was going on. Perhaps this halloween she would just stay home and play it safe. Put on a couple of scary movies that she had yet to see and pass out candy to the dressed up trick or treaters. She had felt so out of place at that party. No, this year she was going to stay home.
She kept herself busy, running errands and picking up things she needed. Though she had planned on sleeping in, her internal clock had decided she had enough sleep. Even if she had stayed in bed she wouldn’t of been able to fall back asleep. After finishing her errands she had finally sat down to relax. Killing time before the hayride. She put on some music once she started to get ready. She had invited a couple of friends and it was to be seen if the ones invited would be able to come because of different work schedules and other scheduling conflicts. She couldn’t blame them. After all she had asked them a day before. She knew she wanted to go, but honestly she wasn’t sure when she would get a chance to go. Today just so happened to be her free day.
She had stood in front of her closet for a good ten minutes. Still trying to figure out what she would be wearing. Should she dress for the weather or the occasion. As much as she wanted to dress up, one she didn’t have a costume or an idea as to what she could possibly dress up as. In the end she settled with dark jeans, a white long sleeved shirt and a cardigan. She slipped her boots on and grabbed her keys and a small clutch before heading out. There was no way she was going to lug around a purse or a bag. The less things she had to carry the better.
When she arrived she waited a couple of minutes. Sending messages to see if anyone was going to be able to make it. For now it seemed like she was on her own. Not that it mattered much as there were various groups of people getting on the hayride. She was going to enjoy it no matter what. For now she got in line for the next available ride.
Oliana had come here upon orders being handed out to the TRS hunters. Though she wasn't a fan of Halloween, she could understand why others would be and why it was of great importance that they had enough hunters here to protect the citizens. She had been working a few days straight, seeing no point in resting because she was an undead. Plus in a way, somebody had to do it so why not her? She went into the bathroom to freshen up before getting dressed in her TRS uniform before grabbing her wallet, phone, and keys before leaving her apartment. Being at home was boring, this place was simple but it was only there so that she would have some privacy as she attempted to go about her daily lives. Slowly she made her way towards the Calico Forest, somewhat curious on what it would be like this year.
As soon as she got there, she waited around for further orders, the options were either patrolling the area or getting on the hayride. She couldn't help but notice there seemed to be a lot of people here, meaning that she wouldn't be bored if AP decided to take action against them, though she was prepared for anything. To her disappointment, or maybe not, she was assigned to get on the hayride. She wasn't sure if that would be a good or bad thing but since orders had been given, she had made her way towards the hayride, planning on getting on it once the next one approached. It was during this time she had noticed Danika was here, they didn't really talk much but it was still nice to see a friendly face around here, even if it was for only a little bit or at least she believed Danika to be off duty.
[attr="class","ren"]HEROES MUST MARCH ON, THUS I MARCH!
[attr="class","peytonspeech"]Another large, citizen magnetizing event was occurring in Lorsette, as expected given the current changing of seasons. Autumn represented a variety of things, specifically October where children giddily dressed in Halloween costumes. Their small hands would rap on doors or press doorbells to attract the attention of candy-giving adults who occasionally dressed up. Halloween was a curious event for Peyton, however, he paid little mind to modern-day enjoyments. He learned technology and used it as required, but rarely experimented further than basic messaging and TV or radio news channels.
Fridges, microwaves and modern-day ovens proved useful, similar being stated about lighting systems, heating, alongside other advancements. Alas, Peyton missed those olden days where fun was found through crossing swords in a spar rather than video game created scenarios. Unfortunately, the era he was birthed into long passed, leaving him to adapt to modern time while warily exploring the ever-changing technologies; the draurg would be lying if he stated he was not impressed. Clearly, people learned to manipulate their surroundings and manifest comfort.
With the arrival of these fascinating changes also came the heralding of new problems, one involving the war between the Assembly of Phantoms and the Terror Response Syndicate. When the problems started, Peyton was hasty to join the TRS and remained content about his decision. While hunting differed from those years spent as a cavalier, the blond never expected the situation to maintain exact similarities. Through those years he learned to combat terrors, fighting hard to defeat those monsters and the soldiers enlisted by the Assembly.
It brought Peyton to his current circumstances. Earlier, the Terror Response Syndicate contacted him and requested his assistance in the protection of the Haunted Hayrides occurring in Calico Forest. While the elite hunter found Halloween a questionable holiday, he enjoyed the notion of being around horses in a wagon of sorts. The smell and prickly nature of hay was a nostalgic smell from the nobleman's childhood and one he cherished. They were cavaliers, thus horses, hay and straw were familiar scents, textures and visuals.
During the later hours of the day, Peyton changed from his attire, tugging on the uniform shirt, pants and jacket. Dark colours made bright reds pop, labeling the blond as an elite hunter to anybody who glanced over. The zipper was done up, buttons accomplishing the remainder of the job, being secured to the base of Peyton's neck. Afterwards, he grabbed his radio, secured the communication device before finally snatching his phone, keys and wallet. Outside waited for his car, the mysterious transportation machine being slowly learned.
Once inside the vehicle, Peyton smoothly accomplished the usual actions required and headed into the wilderness of Lorsette at the location the haunted hayride would occur. Information had been provided over the phone, the individual informally using his companion's alias, Sparrow... The familiar nickname awakened old memories the moment it left the woman's lips and echoed through the phone. Years ago, his fellow fighter, Oliana Spiros, possessed a similar alias, thus hearing the name commonly used for birds brought him back, however, he doubted they were the same person.
Who were they?
The question rang through Peyton's head since receiving the guarding mission. Curiosity was natural given the circumstances related to their occupation for the evening. There were parts of him who wished it was Oliana, but it was impossible... Years ago Oliana passed away, sacrificing herself and entering Purgatory. Furthermore, the amount he travelled he accomplished after Greece fell meant their paths crossing, should she have returned, had low odds. Gradually, the ancient warrior pulled up, parking his vehicle and exiting.
A simple stretch followed before Peyton tossed his phone and wallet into the center console of his vehicle. Afterwards, he slipped the keys into his pocket, locking the doors with a button click. Slowly, he approached the wagon, people allowing him to pass because of the uniform he wore. As he approached, his brown eyes caught familiar white hair cascading over feminine shoulders. The male draurg paused, eyes widening as he observed.
"Holy fuck," he mumbled under his breath.
Rarely, did the nobleman ever mutter out a curse, however, shock consumed him as he laid his eyes on her. The woman he doubted being in this location was, based on her uniform, the hunter he would be working with this evening. Oliana Spiros, a hero in Greece and the woman he owed his life to. Had she not committed suicide in a desperate situation, a group of vile individuals would have slaughtered them both without mercy. In his eyes, she was the embodiment of courage and somebody he admired after years of working alongside her.
Merely viewing her figure brought him back to those distant memories of sparring and even the evening he discovered her on the roadside, exhausted and sick. Since her unfortunate demise, Peyton never expected for their paths to intertwine again.
a yawn escaped her lips. it was too early to be thinking about sleep or going to bed. to waste some time she played on her phone. looking up occasionally when she thought she heard the next wagon heading their way. there currently hadn’t been too many people lined up, but she figured the darker it got perhaps more people would be coming out. she made sure she didn’t come out too early. it was a haunted hay ride so there was bound to be something scary popping out once in awhile. the darkness would definitely add to the spooky atmosphere.
she finally gave up with the game she had been playing on her phone and looked around once more. wondering if she would spot familiar faces, her eyes falling on a familiar face. though she honestly wasn’t great with names. she gave the girl a friendly smile and a wave. could it be helped though? there were tons of people in the trs. at least danika knew where she recognized her from. though she wasn’t exactly familiar with where she was stationed or what her job entailed.
she was more familiar with people that tended to end up in her neck of the woods so to speak. she debated if she should move closer to her and start a conversation. perhaps she had come here with friends. though she didn’t want to be perceived as rude if she didn’t at least say hello. she moved closer so that she could be heard."hey there, how's it going?"she asked with a smile.
Oliana had noticed Danika wave at her, she returned a smile and wave back to her. She had noticed Danika moving towards her, the smile remained on her face as she was asked how she was doing but just before she had a chance to answer, she heard a mumble coming from nearby them. She knew that voice from somewhere. She turned to look back at him, seeing as his eyes were wide as he stared back at her. She lifted her hands up to her hips, placing them there as she looked back at him, preparing for a lecture. "Peyton Hayes! It is ill mannered to swear." She lectured as she stared right back at him. Her parents had taught her manners in the past, she knew that Peyton was one for seldom swearing if at all. It had come as quite the surprise to hear him swear, even if she had hid from him in Purgatory.
She would pause her staring at him to give Danika an apologetic smile. "Sorry about that, it is good. How about you?" She would ask before peeking back towards Peyton, lifting her hand off of her hip to wave him closer to her. There was no sense in having distance since she was back on Earth, of course she knew she would have to get the courage to apologize from hiding from him since her death, but right now felt too soon. I haven't seen him since my death, damn he looks good.... Holy shit, I can't have such thoughts wondering in my mind right now. She thought to herself, trying to shove the thoughts to the side. "It is good to see you again Peyton." She answered, ashamed at how long it had been.
[attr="class","ren"]HEROES MUST MARCH ON, THUS I MARCH!
[attr="class","peytonspeech"]There she was...
White hair cascaded down her slender shoulders, the TRS uniform which hugged her frame signalling her as the chosen ally. Those slightly pointed ears with locks of hair swept behind them to allow visibility. Flawless complexion, the shapes of her face awakening memories from a distant past. Her figured curved, the hourglass figure of Oliana's body was beautiful, although, the white-haired woman possessed strength as Peyton knew. Those ruby-red eyes glanced his way, magnificent and missed after centuries of believing the woman was dead.
The blond stared at Oliana, the person who spared his life when they were captured by the mysterious group of murderers. A horrible memory surfaced briefly, the moment when Oliana unsheathed her sword and turned her blade on herself. The pain which sparked had captured his attention, eyes fixating at that moment as he watched Oliana fall... Only to be dragged away before he could attempt to save her life. In Peyton's opinion, he owed Oliana everything for saving him, for allowing him to be the individual who returned home.
A lecture began, however, the honourable draurg found himself elated to hear her voice... Centuries had passed since Peyton listened to those usual tones. The blond flinched when he heard the reason behind his scolding. Swears rarely escaped the nobleman's mouth, but there were instances where one slipped from his lips. Hesitation was nonexistent as Peyton stepped forward, reaching to wrap his arms around Oliana.
"Sorry about that... I just... never thought I would see you again," he explained quietly.
Should Peyton be successful, he slowly pulled away after a few moments of embracing the young woman. The corners of the nobleman's lips twitched into a tight-lipped grin. Bliss was discovered in discovering his old friend from Greece, the long-haired woman being a missed ally. Finally, they would be fighting together again, prepared to defeat a common enemy similar to old friends. The evening was turning out better than expected, and Peyton was not about to complain.
today seemed like it was just going to be filled with many surprises. she brushed her hair out of her eyes once she had reached oliana. despite not knowing her personally, she figured she would be polite and make small talk. it was something to do while she waited for the next ride. she managed to reply before oliana seemed to spot someone she recognized in the crowd.”i’m doing alright. i had a free day today so i figured why not come out here.”she told her with a smile. she moved back a little not wanting to be the third wheel. she figured she’d give them space to talk. from the looks of it, it seemed like they hadn’t seen each other in quite some time. it was always nice to reconnect with someone you haven’t seen in a long time.
it seemed like the wait was over as the wagon had appeared for the next hayride. thankfully this time she was able to get a seat. she was on and quickly had to decide where she was going to seat. she didn’t want to sit at the end. so the middle would have to do, as the seats were filling up fast. she took out her phone to take a quick picture.
Oliana couldn't help but smile when Danika had told her that she was doing alright. She then glanced back towards Peyton to wave him closer before arms had wrapped around her. She returned the hug, making her comment to him, smiling slightly when he apologized to her. After the hug was complete she would turn back towards Danika to notice she had moved away from them. There was a noise as the wagon appeared for the next hayride, she watched as Danika got on before slowly joining her. "Peyton, I hope you plan on joining us..." She answered, seeming to have a playful smile on her face. Oh how he likely thought he had a choice in the matter, if there was a chance of possible refusal she would move towards the edge to grab his arm to encourage him on. Of course she secretly hoped he'd give her an excuse just to do that. "Oh hey, before I forget, have you two met?" She asked, looking towards Danika and Peyton. Though she knew them both, she wasn't sure if they knew each other, of course it would make sense since Peyton was likely in town longer then her, or so she believed anyway.
[attr="class","ren"]HEROES MUST MARCH ON, THUS I MARCH!
[attr="class","peytonspeech"]Happiness filled Peyton's veins upon observing the white-haired hero from many centuries ago. Those days in Rome were some blissful memories of a time spent being around Oliana Spiros. While there were bad memories a plenty, those bitter-sweet thoughts of days spent talking and training were still locked in Peyton's mind. Unfortunately, the honourable draugr's actions manifested an awkward atmosphere between Oliana and the green-haired woman she was speaking to. A slight shade of embrassed red breached Peyton's countenance, those emotions being demonstrated as he reached back and scratched the back of his neck.
The embrace intended to display those emotions of care towards the individual who meant plenty to the draugr. The woman rescued him from an untimely death by sacrificing herself. The blond wondered what Oliana returned as considering she officially became an undead species. Long years had passed since Peyton had the opportunity to speak with the white-haired woman and through those years many things have changed. Yet, without hesitation, the blond had hugged his dearest friend, not a negative thought entering his emotion-overwhelmed mind.
The red colour on Peyton's face remained as he nodded at Oliana's question, slowly following. Fortunately, the apologizing opportunity was provided when the white-haired woman inquired if they knew one another. The blond gave a charming smile to the green-haired woman his friend was speaking with. He hoped everything could be smoothed over if the stranger felt uncomfortable with his abrupt action.
"I... don't believe we have," he said, offering his hand. "I'm Peyton Hayes. I apologize for earlier, Oliana here is an old friend of mine and... it has been too long since I've last seen her."
As one of the TRS agents requested to protect the hayride event, Peyton was allowed on without any complaints. The TRS uniform signified his purpose for arriving at the event, which meant a position would be reserved for himself and Oliana to carry out their duties.
she wondered how long the ride would be and what would be on the trail. it had taken a few minutes for the hayride to arrive, but it wasn’t like she had been waiting since the beginning. she waited for her turn as she hopped on to the ride. not far behind her was oliana and her friend. she hoped it hadn’t seemed like she was running away from them. if anything she was trying to give them space. surely they wanted their little reunion to be without an audience. they all sat down near each other and danika smiled.
she wasn't the greatest with names, but faces was something else. though she couldn't say that she had seen much of him around. then again that was a good thing. she didn't like seeing people injured. introductions were made and she shook his hand."it's nice to meet you, i'm danika."
it seemed like perhaps there had been a slight misunderstanding.”you have nothing to apologize for.”she added with a smile."i mean it's only natural when one hasn't seen a friend for quite sometime."
Oliana couldn't help but feel pleased when Peyton had joined them on the hayride. She then asked if they knew one another, quite pleased when Peyton introduced himself and Danika followed suit right after that. "I know I've met you a few times in the ward, not sure if you remembered me or not but I'm Oliana." She answered, finding it easier to remember names after seeing them for a while. "I was the one that assisted with gathering herbs the one time when the area was surrounded by AP." She explained, somewhat shy at the idea of getting to do her job around ward medics. It honestly was her pleasure though, seeing as if anything were to happen to the ward medics, the rest of them would be in trouble in the long run.
[attr="class","ren"]HEROES MUST MARCH ON, THUS I MARCH!
[attr="class","peytonspeech"]Emotions were a powerful thing, the amount of force they carried mightier than any weapon which could ever be forged. They manifested motivations for people to accomplish their desired goals. They gave reason for the wielder to firmly wrap their fingers around the handle of their weapon and charge into battle without a second of hesitation. Alas, they could easily overwhelm anyone, resulting in embarrassing actions being hosted for civilians to spectate. While Peyton held no regrets in embracing Oliana, he created awkwardness between her and the individual she was conversing with.
Alas, a simple apology was provided and the reaction Danika provided soothed any concerns previously held. The green-haired woman presented herself as calm and understanding with the response she provided. It was something refreshing and pleasant to witness, especially after the actions he did. As a former nobleman, Peyton continued to hold himself to a particular standard because of those teachings. His bloodline-based ranking required him to be a professional, well-spoken individual with charisma, charm and leadership skills.
"It is, thank you for understanding," Peyton responded with a soft smile.
The blond stepped back slightly, allowing a comfortable amount of distance to exist between himself and the other occupants he was speaking to. The situation was properly handled, thus, Peyton felt himself somewhat eased by apologizing. While there an issue never truly existed, the action sat well with the ancient warrior. Alas, his alertness was maintained since despite reuniting with Oliana, there was still a mission to carry out.
Canis was strolling through the area where the hayrides were taking place. There was a passenger on his shoulder looking around with ah. Rose was currently sitting on his shoulder she had some kitty cat face paint on her face and was enjoying a candy apple. And that's when she saw it the cart being pulled by horse's pointing her free hand to the cart and bouncing with excitement."Horsies!" She let out with excitement as she pointed with her free hand.
Canis catching on to what the little girl wanted moved his massive form toward the cart as he made his way there a head of white hair caught his sight. When he was stuck in purgatory when most of his "peers" Would try and put her down he would usually fight them off cause while his death was heroic in the eyes of the will fo the forest he lived in. it wasn't in the eyes of humanity. And one's death was their business anyway.
As his massive form made its way to the cart those ones in the cart who never heard of the rumors spoke about him started to panic a little. But once they cought sight of the little girl who rode his shoulder. The panic died, kneeling so rose could get on the cart rose chose to sit next to Danika. pulling a candy apple from her bag she offered it to her."Pretty lady," As she held the apple out. "Would you like one?"
Canis moved to where Oliana and Peyton sat he was going to walk next to the cart since he didn't want to stress the noble creature's who pulled the cart. Speaking to Oliana" I see you got sent back." he spoke in a semi-happy tone it was always nice to see someone he helped in the past. There where so few still in the land of the living.
was it obvious that danika was better with faces than with names. she smiled nonetheless when oliana gave her name."i've seen you a few times, but not enough."danika said with a nod, not wanting to admit that her name had evaded her and she wasn't going to make the same mistake as she had done with fritz and call her by the wrong name. she still couldn't live that down. she was so adamant that his name was not fritz.
"oh, yes. thank you for your help."danika said with a smile as she was remembering where she had seen her last. danika rarely left the wards, but when she had the opportunity to do something simple like that then she didn't mind.
she was glad everything seemed to be smoothed over. not that there was anything wrong. she nodded at petyon's response. again it was only natural to be overcome by emotions when you ran into someone you hadn't seen in quite some time. she probably would of done the same.
as they chatted more people piled into the wagon. she hoped they would have enough seats for everyone. she glanced at her phone, just checking the time. it had sort of became a habit. she moved over to make room for young girl that had picked that side of the wagon to sit at. she glanced over at her and smiled. she didn't want to be rude."did you make these?"she asked as she held her hand out to receive the candied apple."thank you."
Oliana couldn't help but feel pleased when Danika said it was fine, giving Peyton the benefit of the doubt because he hadn't seen her in such a long time. Silence seemed to come between them as the hayride continued. Canis was wandering around with a little girl on his shoulders. She had failed to notice him at first because she was stuck in her thoughts, but was soon interrupted when others started talking. She had caught sight of Canis, whispered hush to the other people just as Canis set Rose down next to Danika. She couldn't help but smile slightly when she heard Canis' comment. "By my own choice, yes." She whispered in return, having failed to explain that reason to Peyton as well. "I'd like to introduce you, Peyton and Danika, this is Canis, Canis, this is Peyton and Danika. All three of us work at TRS." She explained, not going into detail because she wasn't completely convinced that Canis would be interested to hear about it. "So you're here too then?" She questioned, having known he had come back before her, but she never thought she'd run into him here of all places.
