peyton hayes tell me reality is better than a dream. general info
appearance At a tall frame of 6 feet, Peyton manages to be taller than some individuals while not carrying his height as an obsessive trait. With a broader set of shoulders, there is a muscular quality to the tall man’s body. While his shoulders are on the broader side, Peyton’s body is still considered to have a leaner physique. He possesses a fair complexion, however, despite his noble upbringing his body has its share of nasty scars. These scars resulted from his family prizing fighters, thus Peyton was destined to have his fair share. Across his knuckles are several, small scars received from sword training. These small, white scars touch other parts his calloused hands, however, they are most notable around the knuckles. On his torso are several larger scars, most being from his unfortunate demise. These scars are a lighter skin colour, his chest having a prominent scar stretching down from his right shoulder to just above his abdomen. There is a chiselled handsomeness to Peyton’s face which usually lures people closer. The angles of his face are sharper with a strong jawline. He has higher cheekbones set on his face, his nose being prominent on his face. His hair is a sandy blond colour, which can result in his hair appearing more brown in certain lightings. The thickness of his hair is easily noticed in a simple brush, plenty of knots coming undone by the bristles. There is a waviness to the tips of Peyton’s hair, resulting in a curlier appearance to the ends of his sandy blond locks. The top sections of his hair are surprisingly straight, but end in these curlier patterns. A pair of brown eyes are settled beneath a strong brow. They are a darker brown, usually resulting in them not receiving much attention. Under most circumstances, Peyton is seen wearing his TRS uniform rather than much else. His uniform is unaltered, having the dark navy and blacks with a red accent to represent his elite status among the hunters. When the situation does arrive to leave on events that are not work-related, Peyton lacks a real style to his clothes. While he nowadays has abandoned the lavish clothes from his life as a nobleman, he throws on whatever he finds first before leaving home. Most of his clothing is casual since it is affordable and easily to simple tug over his frame and leave. Formal clothing will only be worn on special occasions. personality
abilities Light Manipulation -- Mastered The ability to manipulate and create light, allowing the user to make weapons, projectiles or even blinding lights. Light manipulation has been associated with Peyton for thousands of years which promptly resulted in him possessing excellent capability. Effortlessly, Peyton can control the light around it or even create it if necessary. Weapons and barriers can be forged from light, however, Peyton usually uses this for barriers due to his weapon summon ability. As a result, Peyton can create powerful barriers, these shields being extremely durable. Size is the variable for this durability, the larger the shield, the more likely it will shatter sooner than expected. Smaller shields are more condensed and powerful are able to endure more hits. Frequently, Peyton trains his shield creation is used to defend against magical attacks since his light magic blocks those types of attacks best. Physical attacks can break through these light barriers quicker, especially if they use abilities like enhanced strength. As Peyton powers these light shields, his energy will be eaten up by invoking his magic, however, this does take time since he is familiar with light manipulation. Enhanced Strength -- Advanced The ability to possess incredible strength above that of an average human being. Since his transformation into a draugr, Peyton now has immense strength. A mere flare of his enhanced strength allows him to plenty of damage to his opponents. The ability coupled with his natural muscle makes Peyton a menacing force to be reckoned with, however, he is not completely masterful with his enhanced strength. The ability tends to wear Peyton out easily, even forcing undead creature to eat on some occasions due to massive energy loss. While he still requires less food than an average person to operate his enhanced strength, it is unique to his species. Due to the amount of energy this ability eats up, Peyton can use it for approximately an hour or less depending on exertion. Charm Creation -- Beginner The ability to create charms which can help others by making them comfortable. Support-based abilities were never Peyton’s strong suit, thus he is unable to even create charms. Trying would result in very weak charms which hardly assist the individual in question. Furthermore, it would drain Peyton’s energy immensely. Weapon/Armour Summon -- Mastered The ability to summon weapons or armour with a mere thought, allowing the user to spawn armour on their body or a weapon in their hands. Similar to most draugrs, Peyton is capable of summoning weapons and armour. In a matter of seconds, he can make these appears, his large broadsword being the quickest to summon. The broadsword is a heavy-set weapon designed to deliver devastating blows, which matches his type of draugr. This being said, he can also summon lances and axes, but he is limited to 1 weapon at a time. As an honourable draugr, Peyton can summon a heavier set of armour which is designed to protect him from harsh blows. This armour is weak against most magic, but works best against protecting Peyton against physical attacks. The durability of his weapons and armour is stronger than an average, allowing Peyton’s armour to safely protect him, however, it can nonetheless break. Despite the durability, he must be wary about his armour and weapons breaking since there are severe drawbacks. When Peyton’s armour or weapons break, he is unable to summon them for weeks as a result. Due to the weight of his armour, it does make him slower. Natural: Enhanced Durability, Enhanced Senses, Immortality, Self-sustenance backstory TRIGGER WARNINGS: Battle scenes, violence, suicide Being a noble lineage, high expectations were weighed on the children of the Hayes family. Prized for their heavily angelic genes, the Hayes family easily gained a positive reputation among the people of Greece. The father of the Hayes family was a prized fighter, holding a high rank in the king’s army. They excelled as horseback riders, his father serving as the commander of the King’s Cavalry. At times, Peyton’s father would be in the audience of their king and his advisor, usually to deliver war reports when necessary. The Hayes family were trusted nobleman, albeit, stuck on family traditions. They arranged marriages for their children to maintain their noble line of birth, however, it arrived with special privileges. Throughout his childhood, Peyton would be toured around to the homes of noble or the King’s palace itself. The early memories of wandering down giant corridors and fellow high-standing children were constant for Peyton. However, he was unaware that his parents were searching for an appropriate suitor for their son. While the young child grew, his father’s expectations and desires accomplished similarly. His parents discovered what they declared a suitable woman to marry, unaware of how snobbish and snooty she could be. However, his father desired to him to learn to become a cavalier and follow in the footsteps expected of the Hayes family. The coaxing was always smaller activities when Peyton was merely a child. There were days where his father would take him out for rides and carefully tour his horse around their territory. Joyfully, he would always glance around, happy whenever he was around his father. In Peyton’s eyes, his father was a marvellous nobleman, their close relationship only feeding those beliefs. Meanwhile, his father prized his only child, unable to bear the thought of losing him, however, traditions needed fulfilling. From the beginning, he was determined to train his only child to conquer the enemy whenever necessary. They were desperate hopes, but natural ones since as Peyton’s father, he wanted his child to succeed. At a young age, Peyton’s cavalier training started, wedding plans being postponed solely because of his father’s desires for Peyton to focus on training. The regiments were difficult, but useful as Peyton learned the skills he would require to become a soldier in the King’s army. He became stronger and more familiar with horseback riding. Throughout those sparring duels, his father always informed him he was a natural for these skills despite always beating his son in their duels. The praise always confused Peyton, but his father explained that each sparring match, he was becoming stronger. Thus, the training continued, each battle displaying a new showing of skill as Peyton learned a variety of weapons, although, he quickly favoured the sword. Nonetheless, he proceeded to train in all weapons his father requested to please him. He loved his father and wanted nothing more than to make him proud. As the months went on the time eventually arrived to train for what his father referred to as The Trial. In the Hayes men were known for preparing for a week long survival journey by their lonesome. It was perhaps an odd tradition, but one required in their family. Whenever questioned about the original, his father always explained it involved his ancestors having to survive days without housing and starving. He never provided details, but Peyton never pressed him for more. The young man merely knew it was apart of his crossing into manhood, thus it was necessary. As preparation, Peyton trained for days on end in survival, fighting and various other useful skills to allow him to safely live through the evening. Once his father dubbed him prepared for his journey, Peyton took his favoured horse and ventured out. Down those dirt paths with wagon ruts he wandered, eyes curious as he explored, contemplating how he would proceed through the evening. By evening he was searching for a location to set up camp, although, the surprised whinny of a horse prompted his attention. The young man watched the animal strolled by, lacking a rider in its saddle. He straightened, observing, but refusing to approach in case the animal was among the fickle or temperamental. When the horse passed him, he untied his horse despite darkening skies and returned to the path, following it down in search of the rider. Minutes passed as he ventured down the darkened path with merely a lantern to see as he wandered down the dark woods. As he proceeded with caution, he discovered her laying there. He hopped off his gentle steed to check on the unconscious girl, discovering her injuries, exhaustion and dehydration, thus he softly picked her up and settled her on the horse’s back before returning to his campfire. Carefully, he settled her down, bandaging her injuries and ensuring he had the necessary water and food to care for her. While he was expected to spend the week lonesome, he refused to allow somebody to suffer to fulfill those requirements established by his father. Prayers were sent to Akari that his father would understand his choices and acknowledge that traditions needed breaking in moments of peril. When the woman woke, Peyton cared for her and learned her name, Oliana Spiros. Through those days where he waited for Oliana to regain her strength, he hunted and cared for her, using his limited medical knowledge to tend to her until she could handle a journey. Through those days he learned more about the mysterious young girl, however, she never explained why she requested direction and anything else of the sort. As time proceeded, she requested sword lessons and Peyton taught her the things he learnt from his father. Afterwards, he offered to introduce her to his father for further lessons. At the end of the week, he loaded up only the necessary supplies and rode home with the young girl he found. They ventured back to Peyton’s home, the young man excitedly awaiting the moment he could show his father his discovery. When they entered the homestead during the early morning hours, Peyton stabled his horse and told Oliana to stay while he fetched his father. Quickly, the blond roused his father, informing him of the young lady he discovered. Excitedly, Peyton led his father to the stable, but when they arrived, Oliana was nowhere to be found. Concern conquered his father’s countenance as he insisted his son rested and allowed him to check for a fever. For days, Peyton’s father believed he was suffering from sickness, the young girl merely being an illusion. Throughout those days, Peyton was locked in his room because his father believed it was miracle his only son survived the ordeal. As a result, Peyton was locked into his room for days despite his insistence that she was real. Only days later did his father returned with apologies and news from the castle. A traitor was discovered, the king’s safety being secured by a white-haired young girl who fit Peyton’s description of the “hallucination”. Shortly afterwards, his father brought him to the castle to get him enlisted into his cavalry unit before the preparations for his arranged marriage began. Daily he would arrive at the castle to train among the knight’s sparring grounds, thus he frequently saw the young lady he assisted. Admittedly, part of him grew attached to the wonderful young girl he met all those days ago. She was independent, strong and a real fighter which were traits Peyton adored about her. Unlike his wife, there was a kindness and strength to Oliana’s personality, not to mention, her appearance was quite ravishing. The manner her long, wavy white-locks fell over her shoulders and down her back and red eyes which shone like rubies. Her figure was flawless in his eyes, the lean muscles proving her to be tougher than the delicate noblewoman he would be engaged to. The woman his parents handpicked for marriage maintained her snobbish and prissy ways and never expected to accomplish a shred of work. At times, she could be downright bitter if he refused to do certain tasks for her. Ultimately, Peyton found her childish, immature and byfar obnoxious with her lack of independence. Alas, he was expected to uphold his duties and marry noble blood. Months later, he was married off despite making vague complaints to his father about his fiance. With marriage arrived the quick expectation of children, thus they began a family together while Peyton continued his work as a cavalier. Devotion was provided to his wife, although, the young nobleman never truly loved the woman. Their relationship was merely done for the purposes of fulfilling their duties as nobles. Only approximately a year into marriage, their had their first child who was a daughter. As time went on, the pair had two more children, two daughters and a young son. Fortunately, his wife could step up to the plate with being a mother, thus Peyton remained by her side while they raised their children. Frequently, Peyton enjoyed showing the children the horses and generally spending time with them. As his children grew, his wife grew older since unlike the blond noble, she was renowned for having a strictly shifter line. Their children were happy nonetheless, his wife finding comfort in her husband’s immortal status. Unfortunately, while Peyton was caring for his children, Oliana disappeared, believed to have been kidnapped by the enemy. However, with a trio of energetic children, Peyton knew he could not track her down single-handedly and without rest. Thus, he only left on searches when his king requested the cavalry search the area. Gradually, as Peyton grew older, his children did as well and began living their own lives. Through those years, there were no signs of Oliana, which was an upsetting sign for Peyton, yet, he felt she was alive. Explaining why was impossible, Peyton always vaguely stating he believed she survived being kidnapped and was out there somewhere. In those passing years, the kidnapping started again which manifested endless worry from Peyton’s further. One day when Peyton was expected to patrol a dangerous area, his father informed him to be careful, worry being evident in his face. A smile was obvious on Peyton’s face as he insisted he would be alright before heading out on patrol. The small group of cavaliers conducting their patrol with some playful bantering between serious conversation. Those jokes were brief, ceasing quickly to listen to their surroundings. Once trotted ahead, boasting his skills when suddenly there was a whistle. Eyes widened when the small group watched as an arrow entered their friend’s head, the man toppling from his saddle while his horse whinnied. Without hesitation the remaining two shouted and prompted their horses into a full-gallop in a desperate attempt to escape their attackers. Their numbers were smaller and their attackers were an entire group of five. Eventually, Peyton separated from his fellow soldier, both hoping they had better luck escaping their pursuers on their own. Praised for his houseback skills, Peyton thought he stood a chance escaping their grasp, however, the enemy had tunnel vision. A nobleman’s son would be a marvellous prize to kill, thus Peyton prepared himself for the worst possible demise. As he travelled through the familiar terrain, somebody with a stronger horse caught up to his side. A burly man with a large sword swung at him, Peyton narrowly blocking the blow, but the sheer force nearly knocked him off his horse. Adrenaline launched through his horse while Peyton desperately clung to his horse. Frightened for his life, he attempted to haul himself back onto his horse, only for them to tumble down as an arrow murdered his steed. They fell hard, Peyton screaming in pain as his horse landed hard on his leg, breaking it. Although, thoughts were taken away from the injury as his head hit hard against the ground. His ears were ringing, focus waning as his attackers dismounted and pointed their swords at him. “Hands up, right now!” They shouted, Peyton slowly lifting his hands, knowing he was beaten beyond fighting back. His head was hurting, the pain in his freshly broken leg an intense sensation of pain. Before anything else, they bound his hands and gagged him. Together, the horse was rolled off as his attackers picked him up from the ground, dragging him far and loading him into a large cart. They never mentioned where they were going, thus Peyton was left completely in the dark. Eventually, they arrived at their destination and Peyton was placed into a cell and healed of his injuries. The action confused him, but Peyton was more worried about the situation he was placed into. Torture was the intitial thought, however, he was unaware how wrong he was. Throughout those frightful eves of his first nights he listened to the screams of the perished and the over-zealous cheers of an audience. When the jailor came for him, he was shoved through a door and told to pick a weapon. Hesitantly, Peyton listened, uncertain of what faced him beyond those doors. As he walked through, he found himself in an arena, facing the one person he never thought he would see again. Feet away was the woman with that ravishing white hair and wonderful independence. A loud shout echoed over the field, amplified by a sound manipulator as they declared the pair would be expected to fight. There was hardly any movement as Peyton understood the situation since he was unable to step forward and fight the woman he fell for years ago. Neither of them moved, both clearly not desiring to fight one another. Hastily, the crowd was angered by the lack of fighting unfolding in front of them. They craved bloodshed, but these two people who cared about one another by friends refused to rush one another. Part of Peyton wanted to speak with her, but before words could escape his lips, an announcement echoed through the arena. “Since our warriors seem so unwilling to fight, we will be forced to puppet one for your entertainment.” Immediately afterwards, it felt like somebody crept into Peyton’s mind, his muscles twitching as somebody attempted to mind control him. The urges were resisted with a grunt of effort, the blond unable to even think about hurting Oliana let alone killing her so he could survive. While he had children and a wife at home, he refused to murder one of his closest friends. Only moments later did another announcement ring through the arena. “If you keep resisting, blondie, we will be forced to execute you both.” The cavalier remained quiet, dropping to his knees as he desperately attempted to resist the possession. He refused to kill Oliana, he would rather she gave him a swift death and escaped this hellhole. As he struggled against the effects of possession, he watched as Oliana lifted her sword. He thought on this day, his life would be ended by his closest friend. While he resisted the prompts of possession, he awaited for the sword to cut through his flesh. The nobleman closed his eyes, prepared for the cold embrace as he entered Thanatos’ realm. Phantom pain erupted into through his abdomen, the pressure of possession ceasing as he glanced towards Oliana. Tears filled his eyes, sliding down his face as he witnessed her own sword plunged into her gut, blood trickling from her mouth. The woman he saved all those years ago sacrificed her life so he would survive. The cloaked individuals who surrounded them were quick to snatch her, Peyton screaming her name as he abandoned his sword. He wanted to wrap his arms around her, apologize for making it come down to this, but the people behind him grabbed his arms. He struggled against them, however, they overpowered Peyton with their numbers and threw him back into his cell. The plotting for escape started there as Peyton made realizations about the location they were stored in. When the jailor next came to fetch him, Peyton electrocuted him before freeing the other captors. He persuaded them to work with him, and thus, they attacked the people who kidnapped them and forced them to fight. Blood soaked the hidden arena as they fought for freedom in an effortful battle against malicious individuals who captured them. Each life claimed was accomplished brutally by Peyton in those moments, his anger over Oliana’s death being fresh in the nobleman’s mind. He cut through any enemies who came his way until only him and the other prisoners remained. Promptly, Peyton led his tattered group of fighters to the horses the abhorrent group had. They persuaded trust from the creatures before mounting and struggling to find the closest village. For days they traveled with only the food to rummaged from the kitchen and the heartbroken cavalier as their leader. They narrowly survived their trip to the capitol where the castle stood proud. When the guards noticed the leader of the group was Peyton Hayes, they hastily fetched his father. The melancholic man thought his only child met his demise despite the information they recovered, such as his dead horse. The group Peyton brought was weak, but his father was undoubtedly happy to see him. Immediately, they were escorted to the infirmary where Peyton and his allies were treated for their injuries. Tragedies were recounted, a sorrowful frown breaching Peyton’s face as he informed the king about how Oliana perished. Sympathies were given, but the blond never stopped feeling as though it was his fault Oliana died. Training proceeded naturally, Peyton becoming more determined to become the best cavalier so he could save people as his friend did. Fixation was placed on training, thus he prepared for battle whenever possible. Eventually, the War of Traitors arrived, and while Peyton had mixed feelings about the entire event, he fought in the name of his king when requested. Unfortunately, their participation from the War of Traitors was removed when the Romans began attacking them. The first war featured the death of his father, which was a devastating fact for Peyton. Alas, when he was offered to take over his father’s position as commander of the cavalry, he agreed to honour him. His father trained him for this moment, thus, through his grieving, he worked on becoming a commander. Perhaps it was an opportunistic choice with the current war efforts, but they fought back quickly. He left his wife when the time arrived, believing he would return from the war to hear something she wished to tell him. The army was sent out to fight against the advancing forces, however, city-states were being conquered and their efforts neigh. During one of these fights, the cavalry was sent out, Peyton among them, but was ambushed by the enemy. While they attempted to fight their way through, he was knocked from his horse and essentially swarmed. He attempted to fight through, however, Peyton fell to the enemy. Upon that day he entered Purgatory, the colourless realm with the desire to fight still flowing through his veins. Months passed before he was approached and offered a chance to return to Earth, which he hastily agreed to. Promptly, he returned to Earth as a draugr and began searching for the remainder of the army only to learn a devastating fact. Greece was conquered by the Romans. The nobleman hid beneath cloaks as he overheard the spinning rumours. They spoke of the bravery of Cavalry Commander Hayes and his valiant efforts before his unfortunate demise. Meanwhile, the location of the remainder of the Hayes family was unknown with a majority perishing during the war efforts. With little to return to, Peyton fled from Greece, avoiding the battles in the War of Traitors. He worked as a mercenary, defeating bandits to assist smaller villages. Time continued and Peyton’s lifestyle hardly changed until the rise of Zeredah came over the horizon. With a desire to serve the interests of the innocent, Peyton joined the Terror Response Syndicate. Frequently, the ancient warrior was transferred through the branches of the TRS. For centuries, Peyton served the TRS throughout the world, learning a variety of languages and cultures.
