Welcome to The Duality of Man, an original animanga role-play that features numerous supernatural creatures. Unfortunately, these various species have distanced themselves because of the war that occurred thousands of years ago, plaguing some with eyes that only see their dualism. While others meddle themself with their differences, two groups fight, each attempting to eliminate the other in for their definition of worldly peace. These two groups of the Terror Response Syndicate (TRS) and the Assembly of Phantoms (AP). With individuals fighting merely over their differences, it brings uncertainty to the outcome of this war.
We happily accept all role-players as long as they obey the rules and are capable of meeting our word count of 50. This does include those who are unfamiliar with this style of role-playing. The staff of The Duality of Man are willing to happily help those who are new to the role-playing world so they feel comfortable on site. Feel free to message the staff if you need help, they can be found here or in the site Discord and will gladly answer questions alongside calm concerns. If you have any suggestions we would love to hear them; guests may use the support board as a suggestion area as well. Should you decide to join, may I say welcome to the site and we all hope you enjoy your time here.

he wasn't sure what to expect. was he lucky or was this actually bad luck. demy had stayed in the apartment. she didn't have any errands to run, just work, work and more work. gideon on the other hand was happy he had another free day to himself. not that he disliked being around demy. he wasn't exactly sure how he felt about her. at the moment she wasn't as bothersome, spoiled and dependent as he thought she would be.
sure their first meeting was abysmal. her sense of time wasn't that great. they had missed each other. he hated waiting around and had taken the chance to explore the town. now he didn't mind he was less of a bodyguard and more like a companion. though you'd never catch him admitting that to anyone.
he couldn't wait till his time was up. though the more time he spent in this town, even with all it's flaws it felt like he could call it home. gideon brought nothing more than the bare necessities. he was getting bored of wearing the same shirts and figured it was time to add more to his attire. of course he wasn't going to the mall for clothes, he'd check out the other stores and purchase a book or two. he parked the car and started making his way towards the mall. he wasn't sure where to start first.
it had been quite sometime since his last visit to the mall. though he was positive the bookstore was upstairs. it seemed like he had already made his choice. he walked up the escalator and made his way to the seemingly empty bookstore. a quick hello from the clerk and he was off searching for the next novel he was going to start once his shopping was completed.
Having just recently moved to Lorsette, the city was still a pretty new territory for Nolan. Traveling across the country to end up here, and the bustle that involved the whole process of not only moving into a new apartment but also trying to tag one down, had rendered him exhausted. There was still a lot to do. He and his friends were far from done with trying to set up their new place, and had yet to even start actually sight-seeing and getting comfortable. It was long, and stressful, relocating from the States to Canada but visualizing the face of his brother was more than enough to keep Nolan's spirits positive and hopeful. [break][break]
This was a new beginning for him and in a way, for his two friends as well. They stayed by his side through everything, being the only two people who didn't turn their backs on him when he'd Fallen. He owed everything to them. Besides his brother and deceased father, they were the only family he had. He had no idea... what would have happened to him or where he'd be had they not been in his life.[break][break]
For their loyalty and sacrifices, he wanted to surprise them both with something. Nolan had went out to gather job applications in the downtown area and intended on bringing bath a present for them and ideally some food. The Halo Crown Mall was one of his stops and Nolan hit up quite a few retailers to apply for whatever jobs they had available, and even submitted applications at the food court. He wasn't in a position to be picky for jobs and just needed something to pay the bills and get by before figuring things out more.... and before he was able to find his brother, wherever he may be in Lorsette.[break][break]
While touring through and trying to get his name out as much as possible for hiring, Nolan managed to obtain an Electric Blueberry Slushy and a special edition video game that one of his friends had set their eyes on. One gift down, one more to go for his other buddy. He had one of his black beanies on and casual street attire consisting of a baggy black hoodead sweatshirt and somewhat torn-up jeans, slurping away from his straw as he stood on the moving escalator that headed up to the second floor. The first retailer that came into view at the end of the escalator was a book store. Bingo. His other friend was quite the book worm, so he was sure he could get him something there while submitting yet another application.[break][break]
Upon stepping in, Nolan was greeted with a quick hello. His head turned in the direction of the employee, removing his mouth from his slushy and offering a friendly smile. "Hey! I'm actually looking for some work. Are you guys hiring?" He asked as he stepped up to the counter, stalling no time in getting right to the chase. "Uhhhhh, I.... I think we might be, let me go ask," The cashier answered and Nolan nodded with a bright smile. "Thanks man," He casually replied as they turned went off into the back, presumably finding a manager or some other higher-up employee. Nolan stood waiting for a few moments before his hands lightly drummed the counter as the wait continued. He waited... and waited. Before his attention span mildly waned and allowed his mind to wander, turning to look at what the shop looked like. He stepped away from the counter towards the nearby display of, starting to sip on his slushy while gazing at a large, detailed Dragon Statue Display of some recent best seller comic series of some sort. "Nice," He murmured with amused awe, lifting his head at the magnificent height of the thing, before sipping on his slushy once more. [break][break]
From the corner of his eye he could see that there was another guy looking around for a book. "Do you think this series is any good?" He asked aloud, boredom in waiting and a natural extroverted personality making it pretty easy for him to simply attempt chatting it up with a stranger. The display was impressive enough to catch his eye, and he was wondering if it might be something his friend would like. Maybe this guy could tell him about it. Nolan wasn't really much of a reader, and he'd rather hear about it from someone else.

notes: Hi Ames, Excited to role play with you! ^-^ Nolan who is not a book-ish person and is, of course, attracted to the cool life-like Dragon advertising a series xD
maybe it would of been easier to start off with clothes shopping first. though he knew that that would more than likely take him longer, as he would have to try things on. it was one of the reasons he wasn't too fond of shopping for clothes. he wore his typical suit and tie attire whenever he was with demy. though she had told him he didn't have to be so formal. though he did find it rather funny. dressing a bit more comfortably wouldn't hurt.
the was glad when he walked into the bookstore there wasn't too many people inside. he liked to take his time to look through the books that caught his interest. he didn't want to feel pressured to move on just because someone was hovering near him. though he would be the type that would remain their longer, just to see if the obnoxious person ever gives up and moves on.
he had ended up at the end of one of the fiction sections. closer towards the the end of the store where one could find the cash registers and the clerks. he was just about to head into the next aisle when he was asked a question. well, he had only assumed it was directed at him as he was the only one in the area. it took him a few seconds to register what the kid was talking about. he walked over to the display and picked up a book.
"well, it just be if it has its own display so out in the open."he suggested with a shrug."i don't really read comics. so i'm probably the wrong person to answer your question."he said with a chuckle."i mean on appearances alone, and yes i know you shouldn't judge a book by its cover, but dragons are pretty cool."
Nolan momentarily looked in the man's direction as to signify his question being directed towards him but his gaze was quick to return to the Dragon Statue Display. He wondered if it was hallow, or heavy... and how easily the thing could tip over if someone accidentally bumped into it. He'd hate to be the one to find that one out! That wouldn't help his chances of getting a job here in the least if he were to cause this Dragon to take flight into the ground.[break][break]
He took another sip of his slushy as the guy spoke, chuckling about how he may have been the wrong person for that question since he didn't read comics. His light brown eyes maneuvered across the Dragon's spread wings, detailed talons holding the shelving centered at the center of its display with rows of books waiting for the curious hands of customers to choose them. On appearances alone, it was impressive, and the man had commented the same exact thing Nolan was thinking.[break][break]
"You read my mind. I was thinking the same exact thing about how cool it is to have a Dragon like this in here," Nolan admitted with a slight laugh, grinning as he once more looked at the fellow customer. This time, his gaze didn't leave him as he went on to comment, "I mean, how you can miss this brute? It's huge!" Nolan reached to retrieve one of the comics from the shelf, opening it and swiftly flipping through the pages, "Pictures look pretty neat inside too-- ah, but anyway, it's not for me but for a friend," Comic still in hand and opened, Nolan smiled at the guy, "I'm looking to surprise him with something. He loves reading just about anything,"

it was unfortunate that gideon couldn't of been of more help. had the boy asked about some good mysteries or the like than maybe gideon could of been of help. well, perhaps. he always felt like he was bad at explain books. either his summary was too short or he would accidentally start to talk about something very important.
he wasn't too off with his assumption right? after all if something wasn't selling then why would they advertise it in the front window. again, gideon really didn't pay attention to comics. which would explain why he had brief acknowledge the display was there, so he wouldn't run into it, and then continued on his way. he chuckled at his words."that's totally not one of my superpowers."gideon joked. glad he wasn't the only one that had the same thought about the dragon. well, now that he had actually paying closer attention to it. he looked at all the detail the display had on the wings alone.
he laughed once more."very true."he agreed before picking up a comic and flipping through the pages before putting it back."the art looked amazing."he said with a nod."then maybe they will like this? who can say no to dragons. worse case scenario they don't like it. just save the recipet and pick something different."gideon suggested with a shrug.
The other guy picked up one of the glamorously advertised comics, having a look for himself at the artwork and contents within the pages. Personally, for Nolan, he would have probably chosen this as something to read if he were shopping for himself. It looked cool, had some action and intense scenes, and looked worth the price without being an over-load of information to process as someone who wasn't an adamant reader. [break][break]
Now on the other hand for his friend, he would have maybe liked something like this but also was the type of person who could read an actual novel for hours without putting it down once. The guy wasn't on a 4.0 GPA scholarship for summer camp while they were in high school for nothing.[break][break]
Nolan gave an agreeing nod at the guy's suggestion. "Good thinking. You know, I think I'll do just that," He answered and closed the comic with a confident smile, "If he doesn't like it I'm sure he'll have a good time checking out the big selection here anyway. Gives him an excuse to wander around for awhile," Turning, the boy faced the man in a friendly and chatty manner, his back brushing against one of the Dragon Statue's arms as he proceeded to share, "We just moved here a few days ago. Are you a local?" [break][break]

the art was very good. it honestly didn't surprise him that it had it's own display. though had gideon been the type to read comics, he still probably wouldn't read this. he liked mysteries. though as funny as it sounded he also liked reading about hero types, though in a more modern setting. that wasn't to say that these comics weren't in a modern setting. he could just imagine this ginormous creature roaming the city. yeah, that would be quite the sight.
gideon nodded glad he was able to be of some help to the kid."yeah, it's various genres, so i'm sure they are bound to find something they like."gideon agreed stretching his hand to hold on to the display. whether it was going to fall or not he wasn't sure, but even something that big would bound to be taken out at some point. it had simply been his reflexes. he had seen it move slightly and assumed the worst. better safe than sorry though right?
he chuckled at his own paranoia. trying to play it off like he hadn't panicked for a split second."oh really. well, welcome to the neighborhood."gideon said with a smile."actually i've been here a few months. there are still places i have yet to discover."he told her with a grin."though this place is pretty great."
Since moving to Lorsette, Nolan didn't bump into any issues with trying to become acquainted with his new neighbors at the apartment complex. He was naturally a social person who, ultimately, needed human connections in his life in order to keep going throughout his day. Both his friends lightly teased him about it, since one of the neighbors named Hayley had apparently started dropping by more often to say 'hello' after he'd introduced himself to her. He, apparently, gave off an unintentionally "flirty" aura with how open to communicating he was with others.... but Nolan brushed aside their playful jabs, just as always, and didn't put much thought into it. What was wrong with being friendly with people? He didn't want to become a hermit.[break][break]
Through his extroverted temperament, he was even able to get another helpful opinion about buying a book, so it worked pretty darn well for him. Nolan nodded as the man shared how he'd been here for a few months, being fairly new to the area himself and still having plenty of areas around Lorsette he had to explore. "Yeah, this place is pretty cool! And this is coming from someone whom usually doesn't visit book stores," He agreed, offering a small laugh, leaning casually and absent-mindedly against the statue as he simply just conversed, "What's been like living here? Have you seen any--"[break][break]
While Nolan was asking the man out of genuine interest of his experiences since moving here, the statue had begun to slowly tilt.... before, mid-way through talking, the giant dragon went tilting all the way off towards the side from the pressure placed against it. With a loud thud, the ginormous decorative display came hurling into the ground, loudly vibrating and sending a flurry of books scattering all over the place. Nolan's eyes grew large in shock, his mouth dropping open as he turned around to look at the mess. "Woah....! Wh-what the-- how did that thing fall down so easily?!" He blurted out, before cringing as it all came sinking that the mess he'd been part of at a place he'd been intending to apply at for a job, "Ahhhh, crap..."
[attr="class","onlytimeright"]
[attr="class","onlytimeimg"]
[attr="class","onlytimelyric1"]sure as the sun will cross the sky
gideon laughed at his comment."so if you don't normally venture here? where do you usually go?"he asked curiously. gideon had assumed that the comic would of been for him. nowadays it seemed like everyone read comics. maybe he would pick one out today. though he had to admit as cool and interesting as the dragon comic appeared, it was not one that captured his attention.
as they continued to chat about the bookstore and lorsette in general, the display was suddenly on the ground. the sudden crash of the display and the books falling had interrupted. gideon didn't even have a chance to respond to his question. it happened so fast he wasn't sure what had happened. well, he knew what must of happened. gideon stood there unsure of what to do. it wasn't like this little accident was quiet. no, it drew attention to them. gideon looked around noticing people peeking out from various aisles to see what all the ruckus was about. a laugh escaping his lips at the boy's words."maybe it was the wind?"
he caught site of one of the staff members and quickly started to explain."sorry, about that. i'm so clumsy. i'll have it back to normal in just a few."gideon started by picking up the dragon and setting it back into place."no harm done. look there isn't even a scratch on it."gideon chuckled as he proceeded to gather the books. clearly it was an accident. why would anyone want to draw this sort of attention to themselves. surely they wouldn't be reprimanded, especially if he started to pick everything back up. if anything this was rather funny. it was bound to be knocked over eventually.
Yep, just like Nolan was worried about, it seemed like everyone in the store heard the way-too-big-Dragon come crashing to the ground as though knocked over by a bolt of lightning sent by Zeus himself from the heavens. Nolan cringed when looking away from the statue and seeing a couple customers staring over at them, looking as though they were both startled... and judging them. The man's comment about it being possibly caused by wind would have been met with a nervous, but honest laugh at such an idea since... as if.... wind would be able to do that, inside a building. It was funny though and did lighten the situation to hear.[break][break]
However, the growing look of mild scrutiny from one of the bystanders distracted Nolan from being able to comment in cheering just and the boy instead scoffed a little as he defended, "Hey, come on, don't look at us like that. It's not like we broke it," It could have happened to anyone...! Unfortunately, just when Nolan had made his defense to the bystanders who seemed to turn around to quickly mind their own business, the staff showed up and heard what Nolan said. Which, inevitably, made it harder to excuse that it just fell on its own. Hearing Gideon speak up towards someone caused his face to brighten in surprise as he turned around and saw the faculty. Ugh, crap.... there was no way he was going to get hired here. [break][break]
"Uh, yeah....! Sorry about that, it just kind of tipped over and fell when we were leaning against it--" Nolan began to explain with a small smile, and tried to demonstrate how they were leaning by raising his arm in a mimicking position, "-- Like this. Y-you know, you should look into putting some kind of barrier or wall around it, so that it doesn't fall on anyone," He just... kept talking.... and talking. And digging a hole, which was the opposite effect of what he was trying to do. A nervous laugh arose from him when one of the staff members rose a brow, and Nolan begun helping the man he was just chatting with pick up books. "We haven't had any issues with it falling over until now," The member specified. "Ohhhh? Haha, oops...! We'll pick everything up, sorry again...!" The young man nervously laughed once more and the staff member sighed. "If you two plan on buying something, don't worry about cleaning up..."

it was probably not helping one bit that he had been laughing. what else was he going to do? for one he wasn't going to fret over the fallen over display and books. as far as he saw nothing was damaged. sure they might be feeling a little embarrassed, but other than that. it was all good. gideon simply shrugged at the on lookers. it wasn't like they had knocked it over on purpose.
soon enough the only people that were still staring was the staff. surely finding a book was more interesting then watching them clean up. it wasn't that entertaining. had a fight broken out, then maybe it would be worth watching. while they continued to explain what had happened, gideon started to pick things up."hey, it was bound to happen. it was an accident."gideon told the clerk with a frown. it wasn't like they were horsing around. they were simply talking.
gideon shrugged once more. he wasn't sure he would go back to look for a book. it's not like he had anything in mind. he would more than likely come back with a list. he glanced over to him."you still getting this book?"he asked as he handed one to him, before handing the rest of the stack to the clerk.
The other guy's slight laughing, and casual attitude towards the clumsy incident had admittedly made Nolan feel better about the whole scenario collapsing right next to him. Had he been alone, and the only one leaning against the dragon display, he would have felt so embarrassed that he'd never be able to show his face here again... now that would have been a bummer. He had barely even lived in Lorsette for a week![break][break]
He went about scooping as many comics into his arms as possible, standing up to help stack them on the desk counter so that they would be out of harm's way on the floor. The employee's comment cause Nolan to slow down in his speedy tidying. He paused with a few comics in his hands, glancing towards the other man when he asked if he were still getting a book. In a way, he felt obligated to.... since... he still needed a job. If he bought something, maybe that could help make amends with the accident?[break][break]
"Oh, yeah, for sure," He replied with an eager smile, setting a couple of the books he was holding onto the pile at the desk while keeping one for himself, "How about you? You getting anything?" "When you two are ready, we'll check out your books over here," The employee said while another was currently kneeling down to try and lift the dragon up. While the statue wasn't terribly heavy, it was still tall enough to cause some struggle... when Nolan saw the employee having difficulty, he fused a small hovering whirlpool of light magic underneath the statue. Slowly, it begun levitating upwards, startling the employee as the girl stepped back and watched it maneuvering with the light whirlpool sparkling alongside it.

okay he could completely understand why they would be upset, but at the same time. they could of been dealing with people worse then them. first starters, he was positive had someone else knocked that stupid display down they would of taken off. gideon was just getting irritated with the employees tone. whether they meant anything by it or not.
he was over it. he was done explaining what happened. he wasn't sure why he was making such a big deal about this anyway. he sighed softly, whether they wanted to believe them or not was their choice. they made their way to the check out counter. setting down the books they had already picked up. gideon shook his head."not today. i really didn't find anything that jumped out at me."he said with a chuckle.
he leaned on the counter as he waited for them to check out. then again why was he waiting? it wasn't like they had arrived together. not to say that he didn't have fun talking with them. maybe he would see them around? perhaps not the bookstore unless he came in to buy another comic or something. his thoughts became distracted as he watched the employee try to pick up the dragon. he sighed once more. they probably should of helped with that at least. it did seem like a hassle to pick it up alone. he got off the counter and started towards them to help out. he had only taken a few steps when he saw that perhaps they didn't need his help after all. the statue seemed to be picked up effortlessly. clearly it wasn't them, they had just been struggling a few moments ago with the dragon. he turned around."was that you?"he asked curiously."do youe always get something up your sleeve?"he asked with a laugh.
The statue stood up tall right where it was before, a couple of the nearby employees seeming flambergasted by what happened. Nolan, himself, confidently smiled and felt a wave of pride for his work... if not even some amusement from the reactions from the two unassuming men. When the statue was stable and up-right, he immediately ceased the glow, removing its supportive light once it'd already achieved its purpose.[break][break]
Gideon asked him if it was him who'd done the not-so-subtle magic lifting, arising Nolan's attention back over to him. His question was reciprocated with a chuckle of his own and he offered him a small shrug of his shoulders. "ah, well, not always but usually," He answered in a playful tone, before raising the comic, "I should go pay for this. It was nice meeting you, maybe we'll see each other again sometime. I could use some new friends around here. It's a big city, you know?" [break][break]
Cities, of course, didn't intimidate him. Nolan was from a small town and therefor when he first started seeing more of what the world looked outside the quaint town he grew up in, it was a little overwhelming. However, at the same time, it was exhilarating. He craved adventure and by stepping outside his comfort zone as a kid, he realized what he'd been missing. That being said, while he wasn't intimidated, he was a social person and he definitely wanted to get out and establish new connections.

gideon chuckled at the response. he wasn't about to bombard him with question. that was a good enough answer. didn't matter where he met someone. they always seemed to be full of surprises. this had surely been the highlight of his day. it wasn't everyday one knocked over a large dragon display.
it seemed it was time to go their separate ways. gideon was ready to move on to the next store. despite wanting to buy a couple of books. he hadn't found anything that had caught his attention. perhaps another time. there were other things he needed to purchase before heading home. it wasn't like he didn't have a few books he could read at home. gideon nodded."i'm sure we'll bump into each other again. i mean if we don't bump into each other out there, you could probably find me in here."he said with a chuckle.
with that he nodded a goodbye and headed towards the exit.
