Welcome to The Duality of Man, an original animanga role-play that features numerous supernatural creatures. Unfortunately, these various species have distanced themselves because of the war that occurred thousands of years ago, plaguing some with eyes that only see their dualism. While others meddle themself with their differences, two groups fight, each attempting to eliminate the other in for their definition of worldly peace. These two groups of the Terror Response Syndicate (TRS) and the Assembly of Phantoms (AP). With individuals fighting merely over their differences, it brings uncertainty to the outcome of this war.
We happily accept all role-players as long as they obey the rules and are capable of meeting our word count of 50. This does include those who are unfamiliar with this style of role-playing. The staff of The Duality of Man are willing to happily help those who are new to the role-playing world so they feel comfortable on site. Feel free to message the staff if you need help, they can be found here or in the site Discord and will gladly answer questions alongside calm concerns. If you have any suggestions we would love to hear them; guests may use the support board as a suggestion area as well. Should you decide to join, may I say welcome to the site and we all hope you enjoy your time here.
Yours Truely,
The Staff

[attr="class","lietags"]Kodiak McNeil [break]640 words
[attr="class","liebody"]No matter how many times Laz had been reprimanded in the past from adults or even from bullies much like Kodiak here; he wouldn't budge and would deal with whatever sort of damage that dished to him. He came from a place of wanting to help and for whatever reason, no matter the person - the situation... it always ended up this way. More anger sent his way but Laz didn't want to give up here. He didn't want to stop even if it meant getting horribly bruised or injured. He can barely withstand the pain that would bring him and to him- it's worth it all if it helps the other let out any frustration. It was a very self-sacrificial way of thinking, one that might not have been the heathiest but he didn't care.
The guinea pig flinches when the yelling only increases - his lips push together as he tried to think of a way to de-escalate. He didn't want him to get him trouble, he didn't want people to misunderstand. He had started this conversation willingly but now any onlookers would only assume- Kodiak had been harassing him and that wasn't the case at all! "I won't! I won't till you hear me out..." A tinge of pain after his hand had been yanked out of his grip. The mumbling of the students around them barely get heard. "Please- ....please calm down!" He didn't want him to get him trouble.
"I care... because I don't know?!! I care!!!" He saw how much he was on his own, how much he had been outcasted. Laz didn't want someone to live like that, to be alone. The guinea pig felt at least one person deserved one good influence in their life. "Isn't it lonely? Being by yourself? I just.... I just wanna be your friend." He whines- all of this was making him emotional. It wasn't because it hurt, wasn't because of the swear words or any of that. It was the adamant refusal of letting him close- of denying Laz even to invade his space at all. [break]
Just how much did one have to go through to be so guarded off? The guinea pig lets out a few sniffles, tears had been threatening and it certainly hadn't helped when his elbow connected harshly with his gut. His knees give out under him and he falls to the ground, coughing. His tears finally began to fall as he moved his hands to wipe them away. Laz's head looks up- voice shouts just as loud as Kodiak's been. "S-SORRY FOR TRYING TO BE YOUR FRIEND!" he pauses to sniffle. "B-BUT I'M NOT STOPPING! SO YOU CAN HURT ME ALL YOU W-WANT! BUT IT WON'T GET RID OF ME!"[break]
"I don't care how much I bruise..." a whimper. "I want to be your ally. How can I prove myself to you? I don't wanna fight like this... and now... now you're gonna get in trouble! I don't want that." He sobs out of frustration for letting it escalate to this point. His head drops down to the ground. "They won't listen to me either 'cause they'll think I'm covering for you..." It sucked, it seriously sucked. He sucks in a deep breath as a hopes to control the tears but... it just seemed it wasn't going to happen.[break]
As expected it was no more than a minute later that a few teachers had arrived to the scene. One to attend to Laz and another to handle Kodiak. The teacher that came to Laz's aid had showed immediate concern but the male shook his head. "He didn't bully me! I was... I was just trying to talk to him and we got into a fight." A pause. "Please don't punish him... I didn't want him to get in trouble. I made him mad!"[break][break]

[attr="class","lietags"]Kodiak McNeil [break]811 words
[attr="class","liebody"]Round honey eyes widen in shock as his hands flail around wildly in hopes of denying such claims which were made about him. Laz was spluttering his words of denial out as his head shook fastly. "Nooo! I don't like pain!" He did have an odd immunity to letting the pain get to him though. "I'm not weird! I just wanted to help, okay?! I mean! You don't lose here and I'm the one who's insisting you can hit me..." Was it really so abnormal what Laz had been putting down here?
He wasn't sure why or how that was the case but Laz had wholesome intentions. Something pure that came from the heart. Wanting nothing more but to help someone who Laz felt like needed the assistance. Bullies were what got him to move from his past school and the last thing Laz wanted was to have to this happen again. He wanted to help.... to maybe find some kind of solution for Kodiak so he didn't ultimately have to resort to hurting Laz but it's all he had in this moment! It's what clearly worked but... the incoming blow was unexpected.
Of all things he would in invoke in the black haired male before him never did the guinea pig anticipate he would only cause his suffering to double. Good intentions lost along the way in the poor choice of words he'd decided to make. Laz's worses quality came into play as was shown with the wonderful choice of words he had to ask. His inability to think about what he said caused the ripple effect to happen. Laz has gone through a wide range of emotions but rarely did those on the negative side of things influence him so heavily.
but...
but
When those words hit his ears had his eyes widened and his body close in on itself just a little. The punch to his torso ached, ached quite harder than anything he's ever felt before. It had been nothing like their past interactions. Nothing like the bullies he's once had to deal with in the past. Thinking on it... even if his body was stinging, the words of Kodiak had effected Laz more negatively than the actual punch itself did. Pain was only temporary but what was said would stick in his mind. A squeak of surprise came out of him as he slid back on his heels from the force of the attack.
He didn't mean to.... His thoughts were all scrambled up as he swallowed heavily. Kodiak did as he asked, oh he definitely hit him but the condition of Kodiak only worsened because of his poor choice of words. Laz wanted to make him happy, to make him feel better but he did the exact opposite which made him shake. Which earned a frown on his face as he stumbled out a shaky apology. "So... sorry....!!"
Laz knew he should give him space, should let him recover from the insensitive comment he made. Clearly, the reaction given to him by Kodiak said all he needed to know: it wasn't right to say but Laz didn't want to leave. He didn't want to give up even if he messed up. His spirit may have dampened but it refused to full on break. His arm stings in pain moments after Kodiak began to hold himself and it thrusted the small guinea pig shifter into action.
"I'm sorry! I'm so sorry but pleasse-- don't do that to yourself!" Laz reclosed the distance, his hands cautiously trying to pull his arms from around him to prevent any real damage. "Take it out on me instead not yourself... I...I...!" He closed his eyes tightly as his head shook and voice raised in volume. "I said something soooo insensitive to you! You're right!"
"I don't understand! I do have no clue! I shouldn't have put it like that!" but... there's a whimper at the end of his statement. His eyes are slowly reopening as his frown increases. He isn't sure how else he can get this through to him anymore that didn't involve asking him to hit him without outright saying it. "but... I want to understand... I won't ever fully know what it's like... but I know that just seeing you resort to hurting someone else... hurting me! It makes me sad!"
"It makes me wonder if there's anything I could do for you... so yeah I'm a weirdo for saying you can hit me!!! I'm also probably really annoying because I won't leave you alone about this either!!!" Laz hand tightens it's hold on Kodiak's arm, he had half the strength Kodiak did but he wasn't going to let go of this arm, even if it costed him more worse injuries than the one punch did.
"I want to know you! SO! SO! LET'S BE FRIENDS!!!!"
[attr="class","liebody"] The initial reactions always stung juuust a bit! You know... much like a worker bee sting. The initial contact hurt the most but that feeling of pain slowly faded away until nothing remained but the small bump of being stung. The guinea pig associated Kodiak's behavior to being much like that; especially the barrage of punch, kicks, or shoving he could throw his way. It might've hurt in the moment but it was no different from the pain and bruises he received by throwing himself onto floor during club practice. Laz pulled back in shock; eyes going wide as he pointed at himself. "I'm not getting hit immediately?"
A tiny ounce of hope was blossoming within the guinea pig although he probably shouldn't have jumped the gun on this one. "I'm not a dumb a-... yeah! Not the dumb a-word!" He didn't mind if Kodiak swore himself but the young male didn't have the heart to repeat such things himself. Laz swore it made his tongue feel all funny if he started saying bad words so he avoided it at all cost. Though his mind drifts back to the initial reaction from the angry orca before him. His hand moved to rub the side of his head as he thought more into the question. "Is it really that weird?"
"You hiiit me all the time! What's me offering gonna do to change that?" At least in their past interactions; Laz felt it was made obvious enough he had no problem with the male taking his anger out on him. It hurt to see another person so upset like that that the only rational thought they had in them to take it out on someone else. Rather than let that be someone else... he'd be the one to take the blow because no matter the pain... Laz could always handle it. "I mean you'll still do it anyways, right? right? and you just seem... so... stressed right now?"
So once more his hand drops from his head, moves to pat his chest a few times. "Which is why I offered this solution! You can take it out on me! You should take it out on me... " His hand leaves his chest and returns to his side as he once more closed the distance between them. A little more than the last time too. "It hurts seeing you like this! I feel as upset as you do...." Laz wasn't sure what reason Kodiak was so... angry. Why he was hurting as much as he was but for some reason; he felt the pang of emotion even if it wasn't him going through it.
it made no sense to the guinea pig but it definitely made him feel some ounce of connection to him. It made him curious, it made him want to help but again and again was he always pushed away. "Punch me, okay? I'll even let you do it in the face if it'll make you feel even better..."

[attr="class","liebody"]The guinea pig was always taught better than to purposely go out of his way to eavesdrop but there had been a certain orca he'd been hunting within recent times. Maybe... saying he was the one being hunted (...technically?) was the better way to put it. Well whatever the right answer was-- it was an interesting run in the two had been sharing. Like the way a certain Coyote would chase a roadrunner but if the roles had been reversed! Laz being the roadrunner (more like guinea pig) who used his "speed" to stalk after the big scary coyote (actually orca in this case). He was determined to catch up and when he feels he finally was able to seize his chance... he would get slapped down a few notches. Quite literally slapped, maybe even pushed sometimes.[break]
The treatment fit all of the gossip and rumors' he heard about him amongst his classmates. The black haired male was notorious around his classroom! They spoke of him in hushed whispers and yet when he'd appear they all would silence and perk up to look anywhere else that wasn't where he had been seated. He challenged the awkwardness in the past; when it was a break during class time, he had gotten up out of his seat... strutted on over to his desk and greeted him. The amount of eyes he felt on his back that day were unbelievable, he even vaguely recalled hearing a few soft comments of 'is he really? 'no way...' 'he's just asking to get hit...' from a few students watching him boldly approach the big scary orca. Laz got as much as he expected-- a scary glare and comment about how he should (not so kindly) leave the male alone. [break]
Laz just had wanted to be his friend, just as he had in all of his other attempts which only continued to get worse and worse with each interaction. It had him stumped on what to do! His desire to befriend him, to show his classmates he wasn't as bad as he shown himself to be. Surely, Kodiak had to have some reason for being so angry! Laz accepted that being smacked around was going to happen but for the greater good of making the notorious angry orca happy... he can take a shove or two. He was already well acquainted with smacking his face onto wooden floors... he didn't figured how this would be any more painful than that.[break]
Though Today... it was the first time he ever seen him this agitated. His bottom lip was bitten as he slowly stumbled his way out from his poor hiding spot. What could he do? What would help him feel better...[break]
"Oh..." A lightbulb had appeared within his mind, his fist gently slammed down into his hand in delight. If Kodiak was angry... stressed... he knew the perfect way to help relieve that![break]
"Do you wanna punch me?" He pointed at himself eagerly, the suggestion was unreal and yet the smile on his face just said how much he was sincere about his comment.[break][break]
[attr="class","smoll"]Laz is a short and slim sized male, having a growing body due to his age. [attr="class","smoll"]Laz Haines comes from a loving home of two parents and several older siblings. Known for their bustling energy and big hearts, the Haines are a family of people with good intentions. Laz is the most recent addition into the family of guinea pigs but even then he isn't that young. Being 15 years old, the young male has his whole life ahead of him and each passing day only makes him excited for whatever comes next. [break][break] He's a very energetic and sporty kid, having been playing volleyball ever since the start of middle school. Though he faced the lethal trial during middle school known as bullies but because of the way he was raised it influenced Laz to not fight or be hurt by what the bullies did to him. He instead wanted to help although his attempts of assistance are what resulted in the bullying getting found out and the later transferring of schools.[break][break] His parents saw it as necessary step but Laz felt bad for the kids who had been in trouble because of what took place. Only wanting to help them out but instead being the reason they faced so much trouble now. With reluctant acceptance and forgiveness of himself, Laz took the challenge of high school head on.[break][break] Now he spends his days eagerly running around chasing balls or hanging around and having a blast with his friends.
