Welcome to The Duality of Man, an original animanga role-play that features numerous supernatural creatures. Unfortunately, these various species have distanced themselves because of the war that occurred thousands of years ago, plaguing some with eyes that only see their dualism. While others meddle themself with their differences, two groups fight, each attempting to eliminate the other in for their definition of worldly peace. These two groups of the Terror Response Syndicate (TRS) and the Assembly of Phantoms (AP). With individuals fighting merely over their differences, it brings uncertainty to the outcome of this war.
We happily accept all role-players as long as they obey the rules and are capable of meeting our word count of 50. This does include those who are unfamiliar with this style of role-playing. The staff of The Duality of Man are willing to happily help those who are new to the role-playing world so they feel comfortable on site. Feel free to message the staff if you need help, they can be found here or in the site Discord and will gladly answer questions alongside calm concerns. If you have any suggestions we would love to hear them; guests may use the support board as a suggestion area as well. Should you decide to join, may I say welcome to the site and we all hope you enjoy your time here.
Yours Truely,
The Staff

Heat has broken through into a glorious summer. The snow has entirely dried through the spring, leaving to the brilliance of the warmer months. Terror activity has risen as people are brought out of their homes, leaving the TRS in a position of consistent work. Each are attempting to maintain victory in the endless struggle for power.

[attr="class","lietags"]Kodiak McNeil [break]549 words
[attr="class","liebody"]The guinea pig was always taught better than to purposely go out of his way to eavesdrop but there had been a certain orca he'd been hunting within recent times. Maybe... saying he was the one being hunted (...technically?) was the better way to put it. Well whatever the right answer was-- it was an interesting run in the two had been sharing. Like the way a certain Coyote would chase a roadrunner but if the roles had been reversed! Laz being the roadrunner (more like guinea pig) who used his "speed" to stalk after the big scary coyote (actually orca in this case). He was determined to catch up and when he feels he finally was able to seize his chance... he would get slapped down a few notches. Quite literally slapped, maybe even pushed sometimes.[break]
The treatment fit all of the gossip and rumors' he heard about him amongst his classmates. The black haired male was notorious around his classroom! They spoke of him in hushed whispers and yet when he'd appear they all would silence and perk up to look anywhere else that wasn't where he had been seated. He challenged the awkwardness in the past; when it was a break during class time, he had gotten up out of his seat... strutted on over to his desk and greeted him. The amount of eyes he felt on his back that day were unbelievable, he even vaguely recalled hearing a few soft comments of 'is he really? 'no way...' 'he's just asking to get hit...' from a few students watching him boldly approach the big scary orca. Laz got as much as he expected-- a scary glare and comment about how he should (not so kindly) leave the male alone. [break]
Laz just had wanted to be his friend, just as he had in all of his other attempts which only continued to get worse and worse with each interaction. It had him stumped on what to do! His desire to befriend him, to show his classmates he wasn't as bad as he shown himself to be. Surely, Kodiak had to have some reason for being so angry! Laz accepted that being smacked around was going to happen but for the greater good of making the notorious angry orca happy... he can take a shove or two. He was already well acquainted with smacking his face onto wooden floors... he didn't figured how this would be any more painful than that.[break]
Though Today... it was the first time he ever seen him this agitated. His bottom lip was bitten as he slowly stumbled his way out from his poor hiding spot. What could he do? What would help him feel better...[break]
"Oh..." A lightbulb had appeared within his mind, his fist gently slammed down into his hand in delight. If Kodiak was angry... stressed... he knew the perfect way to help relieve that![break]
"Do you wanna punch me?" He pointed at himself eagerly, the suggestion was unreal and yet the smile on his face just said how much he was sincere about his comment.[break][break]
Figuratively slipping through the cracks of society, Kodiak McNeil's mental state proved a system failure. Assistance was hardly provided, the circumstances of the familiar's orphaning prompting unattended issues. Through it all, loneliness swallowed the orca shifting boy entirely. Fast-paced changes haunted him, pushing his mental state to the negative brink. He felt dumped into a fish tank of strangers, unable to escape and forced to attempt socialization. Compared to the living environment of his home life, these circumstances were a far cry from the homeschool, killer whale fixated society he grown up in.
Inside the orphanage, there were plenty of children in similar situations to him. A large group of which left Kodiak feeling lost in the flood of unfamiliar faces. The school was never considered anything better... There was a harsh contrast between the world of private education and the public school systems. People were everywhere, chatting and conversing, some friendlier and others harsh. The laid-back atmosphere of being homeschool was thrown out the window the moment he was registered and placed in the hellhole the system picked for him.
The orca familiar was overwhelmed by everything happening around him. The fast movements of decisions he was unable to control left Kodiak anti-social and toiling in endless emotions of upset. The consequences of that evening suffocated the young boy, baring down on his shoulders, the malicious weight of those final memories. His mother hiding him, the sounds of screams, the death of many... carrying the heft of those emotional thoughts was impossible. He wanted a moment to breathe... a chance to come up for air and get help, but it never came.
Thus, as the mercy of lunch arrived, Kodiak was hasty to strike off on his own. For a moment, other students glanced over at the renowned "bully". Consumed with anger, the familiar harmed many in his emotional lash outs. Therefore, his peers avoided him, avoiding him where possible and refusing to associate with him where possible. The orca familiar was a fright to many, a student known for hitting, shoving and swearing at his peers. He growled, snapped and displayed his anger at everyone who attempted to speak with him.
Nobody understood his situation, nobody understood what the emotions twisting inside him. Quickly, Kodiak fetched his meagre lunch and tromped down the hallway, heading to the nearest outside door. The early October air embraced the young orca as he entered the front lawn of the school. In silence, he trudged towards a vacant picnic table, paper bag clenched in his fingers as he moved. Anybody passing by avoided Kodiak, skirting away to avoid becoming a victim to the student's anger-induced outbursts. Other students failed to comprehend his reasons and were beyond frightened to even attempt.
Grumpily, Kodiak slid into the bench, propping an elbow onto the table and leaning his cheek against it. The familiar's legs swayed forward and backwards, slow as he stewed over memories. Though, a limited few minutes of pondering existed before an over-enthusiastic voice echoed from nearby. Immediately, Kodiak glanced over, discovering the familiar face of the infamous Laz Haines. Compared to the other students, Laz was an oddball who, no matter how many times he shoved, punched or lashed out at, would come back.
There was a determination in the brown-haired shifter, although, his motivations remained unknown. Confusion flickered in Kodiak's eyes at the amber-eyed guinea pig shifter's question.
"Are you fucking nuts dumbass?!" He snapped at him.
An annoyed growl rumbled out of Kodiak's throat as his stone-coloured eyes narrowing at the peculiar boy. While there were plenty of instances where the orca smacked Laz around, he never expected the shifter to openly inquire if he wanted to. It was nonsensical! Did this foolish student wanted him to punch, kick and shove him to the ground?! The thought was crazy, however, Kodiak kept himself to swearing for the time being.
[attr="class","liebody"] The initial reactions always stung juuust a bit! You know... much like a worker bee sting. The initial contact hurt the most but that feeling of pain slowly faded away until nothing remained but the small bump of being stung. The guinea pig associated Kodiak's behavior to being much like that; especially the barrage of punch, kicks, or shoving he could throw his way. It might've hurt in the moment but it was no different from the pain and bruises he received by throwing himself onto floor during club practice. Laz pulled back in shock; eyes going wide as he pointed at himself. "I'm not getting hit immediately?"
A tiny ounce of hope was blossoming within the guinea pig although he probably shouldn't have jumped the gun on this one. "I'm not a dumb a-... yeah! Not the dumb a-word!" He didn't mind if Kodiak swore himself but the young male didn't have the heart to repeat such things himself. Laz swore it made his tongue feel all funny if he started saying bad words so he avoided it at all cost. Though his mind drifts back to the initial reaction from the angry orca before him. His hand moved to rub the side of his head as he thought more into the question. "Is it really that weird?"
"You hiiit me all the time! What's me offering gonna do to change that?" At least in their past interactions; Laz felt it was made obvious enough he had no problem with the male taking his anger out on him. It hurt to see another person so upset like that that the only rational thought they had in them to take it out on someone else. Rather than let that be someone else... he'd be the one to take the blow because no matter the pain... Laz could always handle it. "I mean you'll still do it anyways, right? right? and you just seem... so... stressed right now?"
So once more his hand drops from his head, moves to pat his chest a few times. "Which is why I offered this solution! You can take it out on me! You should take it out on me... " His hand leaves his chest and returns to his side as he once more closed the distance between them. A little more than the last time too. "It hurts seeing you like this! I feel as upset as you do...." Laz wasn't sure what reason Kodiak was so... angry. Why he was hurting as much as he was but for some reason; he felt the pang of emotion even if it wasn't him going through it.
it made no sense to the guinea pig but it definitely made him feel some ounce of connection to him. It made him curious, it made him want to help but again and again was he always pushed away. "Punch me, okay? I'll even let you do it in the face if it'll make you feel even better..."
Comprehending the actions of Laz was impossible for young Kodiak McNeil. Everything was handled with a type of cheerful capability which threw the familiar into endless bewilderment. Everybody else would have retreated, escaped the range of his violent outbursts. The orca familiar manifested an image brimming with fear. He was shoved in a tank of unfamiliar faces with expectations of thriving. The people who understood them disappearing in the bloodshed and screams. It stunted him, leaving anger in its place.
A low growl rumbled from the depths of Kodiak's throat as he hunched over the picnic table. The inquiry suggested the guinea pig's hopes were rising, however, the orca student felt they never diminished. Shouted swears, swung punches, lashing kicks and cruel words never dampened Laz's intense optimism. Rather, he powered through as though nothing critically horrible or volatile ever occurred. It stunned the orca familiar but failed to cease the tirade of anger and lashing out he accomplished on the daily.
The silvery eyes of the volatile student rolled at Laz's proclamation and awkward dancing around a common-use swear. Obscenities hardly bothered Kodiak's lips anymore, rather, they integrated into his dialogue naturally. Those profanities, a method of release for the boiling anger, but never a healthy one. Accompanied by his infamous lash outs, the coping mechanism manifested by Kodiak kept people away... alongside help. The following question brought Kodiak's eyes snapping onto the shifter, narrowed in anger.
"Who the fuck asks to be hit? That makes you a fucking dumbass, idiot! Most people would bitch about the idea," he snapped at guinea pig shifter. "Do you like pain or some shit?! Cause that's pretty fucking weird."
The offer from Laz was beyond irrational. Downright nonsensical, however, it managed to keep Kodiak from lashing out. Those confused emotions consumed him, keeping his fists bated. His eyes strayed from Laz, his annoyance bubbling as the guinea pig began making points. The young student mentioned stress, stating hitting as the obvious solution. A grumble escaped his throat as his elbows propped on the table. His chin balanced atop his hands as he listened to the brunette's absurd claims, though a single sentence rang inside his mind.
His eyes widened for a moment as confusion flowed over his countenance. Shortly, his eyes returned to Laz, their narrowing returning quickly.
"You have no fucking clue how I feel! DON'T YOU PRETEND YOU DO FUCKFACE!" The orca familiar snapped at him.
Nobody understood his turmoils, the emotions of losing everything. His family was murdered, every member, and was forced to listen to their pleads for help, their squeals of pain and their screams. The thought made his heart trembled inside his chest at the thought. His body moved like water, fingers curled into a fist as he reached to punch his fellow student's torso.
"FUCK OFF! YOU DON'T KNOW ME!" He snapped again.
The angered orca familiar drew his gaze elsewhere, arms wrapping around himself. His nails dug into his arms, skin only protected by thin sweater. A few of the students around them glanced over, the shouts attracting their attention. Perhaps someone would leave to fetch a teacher, but Kodi's care was thrown out the window. He was frustrated and angry, determined to merely sulk and stew in emotions.

[attr="class","lietags"]Kodiak McNeil [break]811 words
[attr="class","liebody"]Round honey eyes widen in shock as his hands flail around wildly in hopes of denying such claims which were made about him. Laz was spluttering his words of denial out as his head shook fastly. "Nooo! I don't like pain!" He did have an odd immunity to letting the pain get to him though. "I'm not weird! I just wanted to help, okay?! I mean! You don't lose here and I'm the one who's insisting you can hit me..." Was it really so abnormal what Laz had been putting down here?
He wasn't sure why or how that was the case but Laz had wholesome intentions. Something pure that came from the heart. Wanting nothing more but to help someone who Laz felt like needed the assistance. Bullies were what got him to move from his past school and the last thing Laz wanted was to have to this happen again. He wanted to help.... to maybe find some kind of solution for Kodiak so he didn't ultimately have to resort to hurting Laz but it's all he had in this moment! It's what clearly worked but... the incoming blow was unexpected.
Of all things he would in invoke in the black haired male before him never did the guinea pig anticipate he would only cause his suffering to double. Good intentions lost along the way in the poor choice of words he'd decided to make. Laz's worses quality came into play as was shown with the wonderful choice of words he had to ask. His inability to think about what he said caused the ripple effect to happen. Laz has gone through a wide range of emotions but rarely did those on the negative side of things influence him so heavily.
but...
but
When those words hit his ears had his eyes widened and his body close in on itself just a little. The punch to his torso ached, ached quite harder than anything he's ever felt before. It had been nothing like their past interactions. Nothing like the bullies he's once had to deal with in the past. Thinking on it... even if his body was stinging, the words of Kodiak had effected Laz more negatively than the actual punch itself did. Pain was only temporary but what was said would stick in his mind. A squeak of surprise came out of him as he slid back on his heels from the force of the attack.
He didn't mean to.... His thoughts were all scrambled up as he swallowed heavily. Kodiak did as he asked, oh he definitely hit him but the condition of Kodiak only worsened because of his poor choice of words. Laz wanted to make him happy, to make him feel better but he did the exact opposite which made him shake. Which earned a frown on his face as he stumbled out a shaky apology. "So... sorry....!!"
Laz knew he should give him space, should let him recover from the insensitive comment he made. Clearly, the reaction given to him by Kodiak said all he needed to know: it wasn't right to say but Laz didn't want to leave. He didn't want to give up even if he messed up. His spirit may have dampened but it refused to full on break. His arm stings in pain moments after Kodiak began to hold himself and it thrusted the small guinea pig shifter into action.
"I'm sorry! I'm so sorry but pleasse-- don't do that to yourself!" Laz reclosed the distance, his hands cautiously trying to pull his arms from around him to prevent any real damage. "Take it out on me instead not yourself... I...I...!" He closed his eyes tightly as his head shook and voice raised in volume. "I said something soooo insensitive to you! You're right!"
"I don't understand! I do have no clue! I shouldn't have put it like that!" but... there's a whimper at the end of his statement. His eyes are slowly reopening as his frown increases. He isn't sure how else he can get this through to him anymore that didn't involve asking him to hit him without outright saying it. "but... I want to understand... I won't ever fully know what it's like... but I know that just seeing you resort to hurting someone else... hurting me! It makes me sad!"
"It makes me wonder if there's anything I could do for you... so yeah I'm a weirdo for saying you can hit me!!! I'm also probably really annoying because I won't leave you alone about this either!!!" Laz hand tightens it's hold on Kodiak's arm, he had half the strength Kodiak did but he wasn't going to let go of this arm, even if it costed him more worse injuries than the one punch did.
"I want to know you! SO! SO! LET'S BE FRIENDS!!!!"
Anger and sorrow mixed into a devastating stew inside the young orca shifted. Reminders of distant, tragic memories fratenized with the damaged emotions swirling inside of him. He wanted freedom from the ridiculous suffocation of public school! The longer he remained in the cruel cycle of classes, the lesser his emotional stability became. He wished to return to the coasts of his youths, to have his family back and to wake up from the nightmarish set of circumstances the world mercilessly served him with.
Defensively, Kodi's shoulders raised as his head lower and his nails bore into his arms. Everything about his present situation was the cruellest joke he ever laid witness to. Orphaned and surrounded by people bearing meaningless condolences while branding the idea of understanding something they never experienced. The fragile details of his life spouted on newspapers and news channels as his eyes soaked in tears and flesh puffy from his rubbing hands. His emotions never seemed to matter to a sole, yet, each proclaimed twisted dishonesty in his eyes.
The entirety of Kodiak's body felt tense from the comments, as though he was on guard. Hitting his fellow student accomplished little to improve his emotional state, however, it allowed for a moment of revenge. Those insensitive, cruel words of insistent understanding existing when not a word was spoken about it... It was pathetic. Despite his lash out towards the brown-haired student, the young man appeared to bounce back without hesitation, spouting a shaky apology. A growl rumbled in Kodiak's throat as he craned his head lower.
The vice grips on his arms echoed with the echoed pain as threats of bruise creation became a reality. The tightness of his grasps would undoubtedly cause damages, even if Kodiak was spared from his nails. He thought the friendly student would finally retreat with his recent outlast, perhaps realize how everything he did was futile. However, moments later the child would return to his feet, hands enclosing around his arms while asking him to stop.
"DON'T FUCKING TOUCH ME!" The familiar shouted.
Moments later, he attempted to yank his arm from Laz's grip. He inched away, looking away from the other student. He cared naught for the damage. It never equated to the emotional war zone occurring inside his mind after all the atrocities haunting his life. An annoyed growl echoed from Kodiak's throat as he listened to the brunette's pestering insistence! HE WAS SICK OF IT! WHY SHOULD IT MATTER HOW HE FEELS?!
"WHY DO YOU EVEN CARE?! JUST GET THE FUCK AWAY FROM ME!" The orca snapped back as Laz confessed his wishes to understand.
The lingering hands on his arm only resulted in him shooting the brunette a nasty glare at his absurd idea. Friendship with somebody who would hit him all day... In Kodiak's mind, Laz was absolutely insane for his asinine idea.
"JUST FUCK OFF! WHY DO YOU EVEN WANT TO BE MY FRIEND?! ARE YOU FUCKING NUTS?! JUST GET THE FUCK AWAY FROM ME!" The orca shouted.
Only moments later would the grips on his arm adjust. Abruptly, he pulled his arm close to off balance the holder before attempting to thrust his elbow into the overly friendly student. The dark-haired outcast was angry and anybody could view it from miles away. There were gasps at his words as some of the talented tattletales had likely already scurried off to inform a teacher that he was 'doing it again'.

[attr="class","lietags"]Kodiak McNeil [break]640 words
[attr="class","liebody"]No matter how many times Laz had been reprimanded in the past from adults or even from bullies much like Kodiak here; he wouldn't budge and would deal with whatever sort of damage that dished to him. He came from a place of wanting to help and for whatever reason, no matter the person - the situation... it always ended up this way. More anger sent his way but Laz didn't want to give up here. He didn't want to stop even if it meant getting horribly bruised or injured. He can barely withstand the pain that would bring him and to him- it's worth it all if it helps the other let out any frustration. It was a very self-sacrificial way of thinking, one that might not have been the heathiest but he didn't care.
The guinea pig flinches when the yelling only increases - his lips push together as he tried to think of a way to de-escalate. He didn't want him to get him trouble, he didn't want people to misunderstand. He had started this conversation willingly but now any onlookers would only assume- Kodiak had been harassing him and that wasn't the case at all! "I won't! I won't till you hear me out..." A tinge of pain after his hand had been yanked out of his grip. The mumbling of the students around them barely get heard. "Please- ....please calm down!" He didn't want him to get him trouble.
"I care... because I don't know?!! I care!!!" He saw how much he was on his own, how much he had been outcasted. Laz didn't want someone to live like that, to be alone. The guinea pig felt at least one person deserved one good influence in their life. "Isn't it lonely? Being by yourself? I just.... I just wanna be your friend." He whines- all of this was making him emotional. It wasn't because it hurt, wasn't because of the swear words or any of that. It was the adamant refusal of letting him close- of denying Laz even to invade his space at all. [break]
Just how much did one have to go through to be so guarded off? The guinea pig lets out a few sniffles, tears had been threatening and it certainly hadn't helped when his elbow connected harshly with his gut. His knees give out under him and he falls to the ground, coughing. His tears finally began to fall as he moved his hands to wipe them away. Laz's head looks up- voice shouts just as loud as Kodiak's been. "S-SORRY FOR TRYING TO BE YOUR FRIEND!" he pauses to sniffle. "B-BUT I'M NOT STOPPING! SO YOU CAN HURT ME ALL YOU W-WANT! BUT IT WON'T GET RID OF ME!"[break]
"I don't care how much I bruise..." a whimper. "I want to be your ally. How can I prove myself to you? I don't wanna fight like this... and now... now you're gonna get in trouble! I don't want that." He sobs out of frustration for letting it escalate to this point. His head drops down to the ground. "They won't listen to me either 'cause they'll think I'm covering for you..." It sucked, it seriously sucked. He sucks in a deep breath as a hopes to control the tears but... it just seemed it wasn't going to happen.[break]
As expected it was no more than a minute later that a few teachers had arrived to the scene. One to attend to Laz and another to handle Kodiak. The teacher that came to Laz's aid had showed immediate concern but the male shook his head. "He didn't bully me! I was... I was just trying to talk to him and we got into a fight." A pause. "Please don't punish him... I didn't want him to get in trouble. I made him mad!"[break][break]
Anger coursed through Kodiak's veins after everything that happened. The number of things hefted atop the orca familiar's shoulders prompted for these instances where the young man would lash out. Everything around him mocked him, pushing him to the volatile edge hidden beneath a layer of a toughened exterior. Nobody would be allowed to treat him horribly or act as though they knew the darkness muddling his head. Inside his mind, the world was a shadowed realm since the lights in his life dissipated, entirely consisting of his family.
The dark-haired familiar's eyes were narrowed, their silvery hues echoing the rage within. His lowered brows increased the scowl on his countenance the longer he gazed at Laz. The onlookers were nothing, but white noise inside Kodiak's ears, every muttered word and upcoming steps being ignored. Inside the fraught child's mind, everything that mattered was the child attempting to assist him. He thought he could comprehend the turmoil of his turbulent emotions. The floor beneath Kodiak had shattered and launched him into unfamiliar waters.
Listening to the ridiculous desires of the hopeful young man annoyed Kodiak. A growl escaped the child's lips as he rolled his eyes. There was no sensibility to Laz's words in Kodiak's opinion! He craved friendship despite the number of nasty words spilling from his lips.
"YOU'RE SO FUCKING WEIRD!" Kodiak snapped at the other male. "You're a dumbass! Are you fucking deaf or something?! I WANT YOU TO LEAVE ME ALONE! AND I WON'T CALM THE FUCK DOWN YOU FUCKING ASSHAT! DON'T ACT LIKE YOU CAN JUST WALK UP AND AUTOMATICALLY BE MY FRIEND!"
The dark-haired young man's fingernails bore into the palms of his hands once more. The child's emotional disposition was only worsening with the heightening of those mental ramifications. The whines and sniffles from the other child accomplished little to sway Kodiak's mercy. As the brunette toppled to the ground, the familiar possessed no qualms over his actions. The height of the dark-haired child's emotions made him blinded to the pain he caused others with his actions. He failed to realize the concerns Laz held towards him.
The fellow students' wishes to assist him fell upon deafened ears. The volatile child refused to listen to the helpfulness of others. Shouts from the other child prompted an eye roll from Kodiak as he scowled at Laz. The whimpering words leaking out of the guinea pig shifter's mouth only maintained the glare on the dark-haired man's expression.
"NOTHING! I DON'T WANT ANYBODY NEAR ME, SO FUCK OFF!" The child shouted at him. "AND SO WHAT! I DON'T GIVE A FUCK IF I NEED TO SPEAK TO THAT FUCKFACED PRINCIPAL AGAIN! THE SOONER I GET KICKED OUT THE BETTER!"
Escape from the cruel school scene was everything Kodiak desired. The suffocating reality of high school's socially malicious jungle and the anxiety he faced alongside it left the familiar infuriated. The notion of being expelled brought the young man a semblance of hope. He wanted to escape and never have anybody bother him again after the tragedy. The teachers arrived, a hand wrapping around Kodiak's upper arm. The dark-haired boy was quick to attempt to yank his arm away.
"LET ME GO! JUST LEAVE ME THE FUCK ALONE ALREADY!" The student snapped.
The stern words of the teacher reached Kodiak's ears, the young man growling as he begrudgingly followed the male teacher. Throughout the escorting to inside of the school, the familiar's eyes remained narrow, the echoes of Laz's words narrowly reaching his years. Alas, at this point, Kodiak hardly cared about the circumstance as his anger boiled inside of him.
