Welcome to The Duality of Man, an original animanga role-play that features numerous supernatural creatures. Unfortunately, these various species have distanced themselves because of the war that occurred thousands of years ago, plaguing some with eyes that only see their dualism. While others meddle themself with their differences, two groups fight, each attempting to eliminate the other in for their definition of worldly peace. These two groups of the Terror Response Syndicate (TRS) and the Assembly of Phantoms (AP). With individuals fighting merely over their differences, it brings uncertainty to the outcome of this war.
We happily accept all role-players as long as they obey the rules and are capable of meeting our word count of 50. This does include those who are unfamiliar with this style of role-playing. The staff of The Duality of Man are willing to happily help those who are new to the role-playing world so they feel comfortable on site. Feel free to message the staff if you need help, they can be found here or in the site Discord and will gladly answer questions alongside calm concerns. If you have any suggestions we would love to hear them; guests may use the support board as a suggestion area as well. Should you decide to join, may I say welcome to the site and we all hope you enjoy your time here.
Yours Truely,
The Staff

Easy to find what's wrong, harder to find what's right.
The Reaper was not really one to attend such festivities, but tonight he had to...babysit so to speak. He was wearing a rather exquisite outfit that was dark and leather for the most part. He stood off to the side with his arms crossed a little, a glass of some alcoholic concoction in hand. His piercing, silver eyes scanned all those who were there where the festivities were taking place. His eyes narrowed slightly as he searched for what models were in attendance and more so to see if he needed to slap some sense into them if they were being too...unsightly. However, there was one person who was not a model that was practically by his side all the time that he didn't see.
A soft grunt of disapproval escaped the man, a frown tugging at his lips as he scanned the crowd for his charge once again. It couldn't be helped he supposed, it was a time of...fun he supposed. And this was certainly a change from the occasional living soul that energized him, mostly due to the fact that this was so much more than he was normally around. He shifted his arms to uncross them carefully so he could take a sip from his drink, the liquid burning his throat on the way down a bit. By the gods, if his companion had taken or accepted one of the alcoholic beverages instead of the non-alcoholic ones... Oh, he'd be in a world of trouble for sure, but at the moment he'd let him enjoy the evening for the time being.
Sven shifted his footing slightly as he allowed his hand to slip into his pocket, thumb hanging out as he lowered his cup away from his lips. He tilted his chin up slightly as he once more scanned his eyes across the crowd, just fine with how things were going at the moment.
Carter couldn't help but feel like Christmas was a touchy subject for him. Though he knew that it would be best to go out and hang out at the City Hall, he couldn't help but feel a great need at remaining at home instead. There were times when he found find out the famous Klepto had stolen precious items and he would make his way around town to pay for them, for two reasons. For one, he wanted to see him again, two he had no problem with Klepto stealing from him. They had a strange moment that first fateful day, having swapped hats, only to forget to swap them back before he was forced to part ways with Jayden. Nobody needed to know that he had found himself bound to Jayden, not even the man himself, it would be a secret he had planned on taking to his grave with him. As expected, through out the many months, he had seen his beloved Klepto and during one of those many visits they had gone from exchanging hats back, to making it a habit to part ways with the others hat.
He knew Klepto was AP, so less likely to attend unless he was following orders. So perhaps coming here was a good idea after all, maybe, he'd get the chance of seeing Jayden in person once more. Upon leaving his apartment, he had taken a shower before changing into a fresh pair of formal attire. Instead of calling for a taxi, he chose instead to walk towards the City Hall. Once there, he noticed the many people and slowly walked to the front doors and inside. It was packed as expected. He found himself glancing around before seeing there was a corner with very few people standing nearby it. Slowly he made his way towards Sven, not planning on making conversation because he was feeling rather shy at the moment, but wishing to not stand in anybody elses way as they would come and go from the City Hall.
The reaper had noticed movement near him, to which he turned his head slightly to see just who had dared to come so close to him. Was he oblivious to the feeling of fear and or dread from coming within his proximity? His piercing silver eyes scanned the man who had come near him, remaining where he was for the most part before he turned his attention away to scan the crowd once more.
It was not really like him to go to social gatherings alone, unless he was convinced to, so the chance of his own companions being nearby were high. They were just...somewhere. He didn't enjoy being around so many people, but he would suck it up if it meant his charges were able to have some fun. It also allowed him to recharge from the presence of so many souls. Honestly he did spend most of his time standing there looking into souls and just observing that way.
He raised his cup to his lips once more to take a sip from it, seeming relaxed but all the more ready to react at a moment's notice. Perhaps it was due to his time as a soldier and him being a bounty hunter, though it was all natural for him at this point. However after a few minutes had passed his eyes glanced over towards a few drunken patrons, a look of disapproval crossing his eyes as they were laughing and speaking to each other as they stumbled closer. He could only trust that his familiar was keeping his son out of trouble, but for now he had some drunken fools to deal with.
He stepped forward a few steps, keeping his hand in his pocket and the other still holding his drink as he approached the idiots. They didn't seem to register him at first but they soon enough took notice the closer they got to him, to where his fear inducement was strongest. His face was unreadable as they reacted in different ways. One, of course, wet themselves whereas another took off running shouting out some gibberish. "Get out of here." He spoke lowly, words laced with coldness and some disgust before he turned and began to walk to his spot once more.
He ignored the looks he received from the other patrons, ignored the whispers and the commotion that followed as some actual staff moved to clear out the drunken idiot. He glanced towards the person who had come near him, eyes piercing the man. "What is it?"
Carter hadn't noticed the fear or dread coming from Sven because he was still struggling with the idea of supernaturals being in existence. Jayden had proven it to him but it hadn't changed the fact that he was having to cope with the idea of it being possible. Who knew, maybe there was another way that Jayden was able to do what he did and the supernatural thing wasn't real after all. Sven had looked at him, he gave a friendly smile but was silent, unsure of what to say. There were plenty of interesting people here, but he couldn't help but find himself watching Sven walk away, moving towards some other people, most likely drunk. He watched as one of the guys wet themselves and the other took off running, shouting out some gibberish. Sven had turned and headed back towards the spot he had been only moments prior.
Others seem to be staring at Sven and he was confused on why that would be, since he had only gone over there, it wasn't like he did anything to them, right? Or at least that was his thoughts on the matter. Whispering seemed to spread across the room, he caught only some of it before Sven asked him his question. "Uhhh sorrry, nothing." He answered, feeling stupid on how that answer had come out. It seriously sounded a whole lot better in my head... He thought to himself, knowing he would only become embarrassed if he attempted to correct himself now.
Sven was silent as he listened to the young man's response. His eyes were definitely piercing the poor man as he seemed rather...awkward. He probably didn't really help that situation with his own demeanor but he was, albeit not showing it, curious how the man didn't seem all that affected by his fear inducement. How odd.
His eyes scanned over him for a few moments before he returned his silver gaze over to the crowd once more for several minutes. He raised his drink to his lips and took a simple sip from it as silence fell over them. Though after a few minutes he turned his silver gaze back over to the poor man before he tilted his head to the side a little, his face still just as cold and expressionless. "Are you not...scared?" He questioned him, narrowing his eyes slightly as he trained his piercing eyes on him.
Carter had been oblivious to the feelings of being scared, finding them as unnecessary so he just brushed them aside and chose to ignore them. It hadn't crossed his mind that Sven was the reason behind those emotions. It seemed to him that Sven wanted to be left alone but he found this corner a good spot to linger in, so he decided that he wasn't going to move just because a little bit of fear seemed to creep up every once in a while. It wasn't until Sven had turned to face him once more before asking his question that he found himself looking back curiously. "Am I supposed to be?" He wasn't aware that Sven was behind this fear that was trying to encourage him to flee. "It isn't like you did anything wrong over there." He answered, pausing before adding, "I wasn't trying to pay attention to it, just was sorta hard because of how they reacted near you is all." He went quiet, unsure on what else he could say on the subject, now he had made himself sound like an eavesdropper, well wasn't life just peachy.
Easy to find what's wrong, harder to find what's right.
He was silent as he listened to his words, piercing gaze locked onto the poor man as if piercing into his soul - which he probably was. "It was normal of them to react that way to me." He told him lowly, remaining where he was as he continued to ignore the people around them. He remained where he was for several moments before he moved towards the young man slowly, stopping just a foot away. The man surely must have felt the effects of his passive ability that made it so much harder for the reaper to get close to people. He said nothing as he trained his eyes on the man's face, his face still holding no expression that could hint at anything he might have been feeling.
"Tell me, what do you think would cause those people to react that way towards me? Why do the other people stay away from the two of us?" He questioned him, using the hand that held his drink to gesture around them towards the people that were just some feet away from them, those closer looking rather uncomfortable and making attempts to move further away. He kept his eyes trained on the man whose name he did not know just yet, but he didn't really care to learn it either since he was sure he wouldn't be around the man long enough to do so.
Carter found himself staring back at Sven, confused on the answer because he didn't believe his current emotions to be in relation to Sven using his power. He found himself remaining in his spot despite Sven moving towards him. The sudden fear was slowly becoming overwhelming, it took effort to shove it back down, refusing to submit to such a thing because he knew or believed that he wasn't in any danger, therefore the emotions were unnecessary. Sven was looking into his face, it was slowly making him feel uncomfortable, but he wasn't able to determined the reason for why that would be besides favoring just a little bit of space. The question had caught him by surprise and he slowly found himself perking up slightly. "They are drunk, perhaps it had nothing to do with you at all." He answered, attempting to find a logical answer. "As for why they are staying away from us, maybe they are choosing to be polite?" That answer seemed possible but he couldn't completely believe it himself, mostly because there were plenty of two faced people out there that would appear polite and truly not be, however he wasn't sure of what answer to give, so he chose to let that one remain for now.
He had noticed the people inching away and it confused him greatly. "Are you somebody of high value, somebody they don't desire to upset? It too could be a reason for why they chose to stay away?" He asked before answering, trying to refrain from possibly offending, Sven, because it hadn't been his intention. Sven was looking into his eyes, in the pit of his stomach that fear suddenly kept trying to encourage him to back away and leave but he refused to accept these emotions with the logic that he was fine, for now at the very least. "Why do you ask me such questions?" Surely I haven't upset you to the point of you feeling a great need to push me out of this corner." He replied back to him, confused on why it seemed that Sven was trying to encourage him to distance himself, unaware that his power was also trying to assist with this matter.
Easy to find what's wrong, harder to find what's right.
Sven was silent as the young man spoke, raising his drink to his lips once more to let the liquid leave a warm feeling down his throat. A brow raised a little from everything the man spoke, lowering his drink away from his lips to stare at him with his piercing gaze. Was he really that oblivious to the world around him? "You are very, very ignorant." He spoke lowly, shaking his head in what appeared to be disapproval. He turned his gaze to the people who did their best to keep a distance from him, scanning his eyes over them before he returned his silver gaze towards the young man again.
"I am no one of importance. These people stay away from me out of fear." He informed him, again his voice low so that only he could hear his words. Then again it wasn't really all that hard due to the fact that people were not close to them. "I ask you these questions because you are very ignorant to the world around you. Not to mention as to what you are currently talking to." He went on, lifting his chin slightly as he kept his silver eyes trained on the man. How could he be so blissfully ignorant to the fact that the world was filled with creatures that normal people possibly couldn't fathom? Perhaps because he was...mundane. Normal.
"Tell me, boy... Do those people standing away from us look like they are being polite? Look closely at their expressions when they glance over, at the way they whisper to one another. There is no politeness in that except for allowing me to stay in this corner away from the guests." He gestured towards the other patrons a little with a wave of his hand, careful due to the drink in his hand as he did so.
Carter had noticed Sven raise a brow before being stared at before looking away when he was called ignorant. Well if one were to argue supernaturals exist and it ends up being true after all, I suppose I am, and yet here I am, believing it to be false despite possibly being shown the truth. He thought to himself, being reminded that Jayden had showed him that he had powers and yet he was still somewhat struggling to believe it is true as if there were some trick behind his actions that would explain that only humans exist in this world. He glanced back towards Sven to see he wasn't looking at him but at the people before looking at him once more. His listened to Sven's words and once more felt encouraged to back away, fear trying to encourage his actions. It was a struggle to ignore those emotions but he'd be damned if he moved from this spot just because Sven was standing in front of him. "Out of fear, huh?" He whispered, pondering the idea of Sven possibly being dangerous. He listened as Sven explained his reasoning of asking him these questions before once more calling him ignorant.
"I don't believe in supernaturals." He answered in return, wanting to make it quite clear that he believed Sven to be a human just like him. Sven asked his question and he found himself looking at them closer, noticing that they were in fact not staying away based on politeness. "Then they are staying away because of fear." He answered in return, willing to accept the fact that Sven might be a dangerous man. If that wasn't the case he wasn't sure of the reason as why people would keep their distance from Sven. "Why should it matter though? I'm still standing here, it really shouldn't matter if they stay over there or wander closer." He answered in return, unwilling to move away from Sven. Is he trying to encourage me to stay away from him? I won't do it... He'll have to leave first if that is the case because I refuse to fear him without reason. He thought to himself, wondering if that would prove a mistake.
Easy to find what's wrong, harder to find what's right.
The young man seemed rather insistent on there being no supernaturals in existence and the reaper wasn't going to waste his time in proving him wrong. Honestly he saw it rather pointless and unnecessary to do such a thing. That and he was at a public event where he was barely welcomed at in the first place. He shook his head, taking a couple of steps back. It certainly would be rather pointless to try and force someone to see the truth before their very eyes. "Suit yourself then. Just don't come crying to me should something scare you." He told him, turning away from the man a bit as he raised his drink to his lips once more to take a sip from it.
Where on earth were his companions? He knew they wouldn't have just ditched him there, they knew better than that. He was sure that his familiar was keeping an eye on his son to prevent him from wandering off or interacting with those who would more likely do more harm than good to the boy. If the young man wanted to so stubbornly stay where he was then fine, it wouldn't be his fault in any way if the young man couldn't handle the uncomfortable feeling or even the fear that he had surrounded himself in due to the reaper.
Carter had noticed Sven shake his head before taking a few steps away from him. Meanwhile the fear continued to try and encourage him to move away from Sven but he refused to allow it to motivate him. "Is there a reason why you asked me such questions? Am I bothering you by standing here?" He asked, knowing that despite Sven having walked away, likely was implying he was done with the conversation, he on the other hand wasn't done with it. "I mean, I admit it, there does seem to be somethings that might assist with logic of supernaturals existing, but that shouldn't be a reason for ones actions." He answered him in return, trying to find out why it seemed that Sven had been trying to encourage him to leave the corner. "I mean, if you want me to move. I'll find another corner I suppose. I just thought that it seemed like a good spot and being nearby you hasn't bothered me." He answered, failing to mention the yet, part. Should Sven be dangerous, he knew that it would be a smart move to keep his distance but he just couldn't bring himself to take caution when Sven hadn't even done anything to him, that he was aware of anyway.
Easy to find what's wrong, harder to find what's right.
A silent sigh escaped the man as the normal young man refused to let up on this conversation that he regretted even starting. He turned his silver gaze over to the young man as he spoke. His face still remained expressionless but his eyes held a coldness in them that were definitely piercing as he trained those silver daggers on the young man as he asked his questions. "I asked you such questions because people fear coming close to me due to the...aura of sorts I give off." He told him quietly, his tone firm but all the same quiet. It wasn't like the other patrons could hear what he was saying to the young man, not with their distance anyway, but he figured the young man would listen more if he had lowered his voice.
"I can see into your soul, see how pure or impure it is. I could potentially eat it should you die right here and right now." He went on, turning to face him a little. He allowed himself to focus more on the young man before him, taking to peering into the man's soul for a few minutes before he backed off from that. "I was merely curious as to how you were not all that affected by me. It is quite rare for me to interact with people who aren't...put off by my presence." He went on, shaking his head a little before he raised his drink to his lips once more to take a sip from it.
"What do you humans think collect souls of the departed?" He questioned him, his voice still firm and quiet but it had turned to more of a...teaching moment so to speak. "Whether you believe there is an afterlife or not your soul will be collected as well once you die. I am like you but also quite different as well." He added after he had given the man a chance to speak. He pulled his free hand out of his pocket and held it out a little to the young man, giving him a small nod of encouragement to touch it. Should the young man touch his own hand he would have felt just how cold it was, much like that of a corpse perhaps. "I am not a human. No normal human could have a standing temperature like this."
Carter watched as Sven looked back at him, still giving him a face that was expressionless. It seemed his eyes held coldness in them. Something he had noticed this whole time but chose to ignore. "I see." He mumbled, at this time, still unwilling to believe Sven as anything but another human. He flinched when Sven mentioned being able to eat his soul if he should die. "So you are dangerous..." He mumbled, slowly starting to believe such things, but that hadn't encouraged him to leave just yet. When Sven backed off, he found himself slowly becoming more at ease. Perhaps I jumped the gun on that assumption. He thought to himself as he looked back towards Sven. He listened to Sven'ts words, still struggling to believe that he wasn't human. Before he had a chance to make a comment, Sven asked him his question. "A reaper..." He mumbled, still unwillingly to believe Sven to be one, but then again it would explain that encouragement of fear that he had kept ignoring.
"A reaper shouldn't be shunned just because of their presence." He countered, finding the other people who kept their distance as petty. Sven had reached his hand out and he found himself reaching out to touch it, noticing the coldness, however, refused to pull away, figuring it would be rude, besides the cold could become bearable as he had pushed this unsettling fear, right? He is just like him... He thought to himself, being reminded of Jayden. It was difficult to deny unless he was dreaming, to which he used his other hand to pinch his shoulder. The trick normally worked unless he was fully awake, which proved to him that he wasn't asleep. "So you're claiming you're a reaper..." He mumbled, before glancing away. "I stand by my previous comment, one shouldn't be shunned just because of their presence... However I must say, it didn't seem to me like you minded all that much when you walked over to those guys from earlier..." He looked back towards Sven, curious on if he was correct or not.
Easy to find what's wrong, harder to find what's right.
Sven pulled his hand away after the young man had touched it, still remaining just as expressionless as ever as he listened to him speak. He shook his head a little and slipped his hand back into his pocket, keeping his eyes trained on the ignorant man. "It is a natural reaction for them in my presence. I make them feel unsafe, and they have every right to feel such a way. If people feel unsafe and fearful will that help businesses or events going on? No, it won't." He explained, or perhaps lectured, him in a low voice. After a few moments he looked away towards where he had confronted the drunk patrons earlier.
He then turned his piercing gaze back over to the young man, staying silent for a moment longer. "They were going to cause a ruckus or not regardless. I wanted them gone so there wouldn't be any further disturbances. I don't care nor mind how people react to me in such a fearful way, I've dealt with it for a very long time and it has become rather normal for me. What is not normal is people choosing to stay close to me despite how I can make them feel threatened and terrified."
