Welcome to The Duality of Man, an original animanga role-play that features numerous supernatural creatures. Unfortunately, these various species have distanced themselves because of the war that occurred thousands of years ago, plaguing some with eyes that only see their dualism. While others meddle themself with their differences, two groups fight, each attempting to eliminate the other in for their definition of worldly peace. These two groups of the Terror Response Syndicate (TRS) and the Assembly of Phantoms (AP). With individuals fighting merely over their differences, it brings uncertainty to the outcome of this war.
We happily accept all role-players as long as they obey the rules and are capable of meeting our word count of 50. This does include those who are unfamiliar with this style of role-playing. The staff of The Duality of Man are willing to happily help those who are new to the role-playing world so they feel comfortable on site. Feel free to message the staff if you need help, they can be found here or in the site Discord and will gladly answer questions alongside calm concerns. If you have any suggestions we would love to hear them; guests may use the support board as a suggestion area as well. Should you decide to join, may I say welcome to the site and we all hope you enjoy your time here.
Yours Truely,
The Staff

Outside the constant noise and crowded streets of the Lorsette downtown. Past the winding streets of houses that made up the suburbs. Through the small pockets of buildings in the outskirts. Down a road into the woods. And up a slightly overgrown side path. Stood a building. A small Manor to be more precise. Surrounded on all sides by a square fence roughly a few hundred feet from the building itself. Made largely of stones of various sizes, forming a waist high barrier. A single gap in the wall connected to a pathway toward the front door. The building itself was Victorian in fashion, with solid wood paneling that looked in desperate need of a good coat of varnish. As the weather had clearly taken its toll over however many years. Giving the place a rather ominous look. That coupled with the weeds sprouting up out of the ground made it rather clear that the place had been abandoned or at the very least neglected for some time.
Yet that didn't seem to be the case at all.
Past the wall, behind the weeds, up the path, and shaded by the overhanging porch. A small puff of smoke rose upward every few moments. Each one drifting away from a cigarette, hanging loosely between the lips of the silver haired male sitting on the porch. His eyes absently staring off into the treeline. It wasn't as if Dane even wanted to be there. Having resented his former master so much. Yet he couldn't help but return at least once a month. Compelled by some invisible force that kept him defending this place, long after his master's passing. He snatched the slowly burning cigarette out of his mouth, giving it one final drag beforehand. And letting the smoke drift out from his gently parted lips. Simultaneously snubbing it out on the wooden porch beside him. "Well old man.. looks like nothing has changed as usual..." He said to himself, rather relieved that nothing seemed out of the ordinary.
Having felt satisfied with his visit he stood up from the porch and took a few steps down to the stone path. As he walked his hand instinctively reached into his jacket, retrieving a lighter and another cigarette. Nearly out of the property he lit the cancer stick and began to step through the gap in the stone fence. Only to be abruptly stopped by a noise down the hill. At first he assumed it must be some animal, scurrying through the brush. Yet after a moment of listening it became apparent that whatever was out there definitely wasn't an animal. With a grumble Dane steadied himself at the entrance to the property. "Who's out there?!" He shouted, wondering who could have managed to wander so far out of the city.
i can't tell you how much i wish i didn't wanna stay
it was rare for her to get lost, but it wasn't impossible. especially when she's distracted and not paying attention to where she was going. she honestly wasn't too worried. if she needed help getting back home all she had to do was pull out her phone and call home.
though time away from the house was welcomed. even if this had been an unexpectedly long walk. why had she come out here? well, besides for a nice walk alone. she had wanted to try her hand at drawing. in the small backpack she had on. one would find a small sketch book and various pencils and erasers. she had liked art in school and was pretty decent at it. though it was definitely not something that her father would let her pursue. it was more like a hobby. she had the day to herself why not unwind on this nice sunny day.
it was still early and she had finished drawing, but she wasn't in a hurry to head home. it's why she wasn't frantically searching for a way back. she really wasn't paying attention to her surrounds and practically jumped back when she heard the shouting. it had startled her and she tried to find the source of the voice. it had sounded far away."it's just me."she called out nervously. as she continued to look around.
Reflexively Dane's ears slightly twitched with each slight sound that came from the woods. Listening intently to the birds, the wind, and the gentle crunch of the forest floor under foot. With each step it became increasingly apparent that whatever was out there was walking on two legs. Though clearly it wasn't anyone too large, as the sound was too soft. Yet why they were out so far was still a mystery.
He raised the cigarette to his lips once more and took a drag. Awaiting some sort of response, or perhaps an attack. Yet much to his suprise one actually came. Echoing out of the trees in the distance. "A woman?" He said to himself, his brow raising slightly with confusion. "Just great..." He said with a sigh. Dragging his feet as he made his way toward the source of the noise.
And after a few moments of walking he found himself locating the woman. Or her scent to be more precise. Making it much easier to track her down in the crowded brush. A trick he had learned from another Lycan. Lifting his nose to the air several times he took a few deep whiffs. The scent closer than ever. Just a few steps further and Dane found himself standing on the top of a slight ridge. The hill sloping downward to a small clearing. Standing in the center of which, was a purple haired woman, carrying a bag. "You shouldn't be out here..." He said glancing down at the woman. Unsure of why she would get herself lost. Yet if anyone seemed out of place it was Dane. One hand resting in his pocket. The other loosely holding his cigarette. All while standing there in the woods, dressed like he was about to attend a funeral. "If your lost the road isn't far."
i can't tell you how much i wish i didn't wanna stay
should she stay where she was and let them come to her? was that even a possibility? or should she continue to walk, just at a much slower pace. she decided to continue forward. though she wasn't too entirely sure she should. the voice didn't sound threatening. though she could be wrong. nevertheless she continued only stopping when she heard them speak once more.
finally seeing the source of the voice. she looked up at him and tilted her head questioningly."why is that?"had she stumbled upon something she shouldn't of. from a glance he didn't appear odd or dangerous. though could one really make an assumption based on appearance alone? she smiled softly and shook her head."i'm just out for a walk. i'm not that lost."she confessed.
so he had picked up on it. she wasn't too worried. all she had to to do was retrace her steps and she would end up where she started. well at least that's what she thought."i'll keep going i didn't mean to interrupt."
Dane continued to stare down at the woman whom seemed slightly confused as to his appearance. Likely due to the fact that she, like himself. Had assumed they were the only ones out in the woods. Yet for entirely different reasons. As he looked her up and down his hand continued the repetitive task of carrying the stick of nicotine to his lips. Letting out a puff of smoke with each parting motion. "Why?" He said with a sigh. Not really having an appropriate retort to her question. "It's dangerous.. why else." He said as the woman began trying to explain herself. Only furthering the silver haired males annoyance with the situation. As he had came out simply to check up on the place, not to play guide dog.
After a few moments of grumbling to himself he turned his attention back toward the woman. Whom at this point was trying to make her exit from the area. "Stop!" He said abruptly. The hand that had been in his pocket before now gently pinching at the bridge of his nose. "You'll only get more lost that way..." Clearly conflicted Dane continued to look down at the woman. Before quickly turning on his heel, and taking a few steps. "Just follow me ok." He called out behind him.
i can't tell you how much i wish i didn't wanna stay
well at least she wasn't hearing voices and there was an actual person here. she didn't like it when people didn't show themselves. as mysterious as it seemed, it was simply rude in her opinion. why hide? if you're going to speak to someone do so face to face. she was glad for his concern, but she didn't see why she couldn't keep moving forward.
she waited for an answer and smiled. of course the most logical answer. it was true she wasn't exactly familiar with this part of the woods."is there something out there?"she asked curiously. she wasn't the type to rush into a dangerous situation, but she didn't feel like it was too bad. so far he was the first person she managed to run into.
it wasn't too long after they first initials questions that she figured she would continue on her way. though after talking a couple of steps forward she was told to stop. she turned to face him once more. he seem so adamant in stopping her and making sure she didn't get lost. or was he trying to hide something? this was not the time to be questioning peoples motives. he was being nice after all. she watched him as he began to lead her away from the danger."alright."
The forest was calm in the midsummer afternoon. The air filled with the gentle push of the breeze and steady buzz from the insects going about their work. Birds flying far above the canopy of the trees. As the only thing that seemed out of place were the two individuals. Slowly walking along the narrow groove of dirt between the trees that could hardly be called a path. The silver haired male leading the woman along, staying a steady few paces in front. As he didn't want to alarm her. Occasionally glancing over his shoulder to make sure she was still following behind.
All the while trying to stick to the path that would most reliability get them to the road. And keep them from getting too close to the hidden Manor. A task that was easier said than done in their current location. As only a dense foliage separated them from the property. On top of that Dane couldn't stop his mind from wandering with possibilities. Curious as to the woman's reasoning for wandering into the woods. "So how did you end up out here anyways? Not often people wander this far out of the city." He said looking over his shoulder at the woman.
From first impressions she didn't seem the type to be doing anything malicious. And her willingness to follow made him consider the fact that she may actually have gotten lost. Yet even if that was true it was important he keep her away from the old building. "Well at least not besides the occasional camper. And judging from the size of your bag I don't think you have a tent on you."
i can't tell you how much i wish i didn't wanna stay
she sighed it seemed like no matter what she did she would have to go home eventually. or at least continue at different way. she really couldn't hold this against him. despite being strangers he was worried about her getting lost. she followed behind him debating whether or not she should pick up her pace. she wasn't too far behind, she just wasn't walking side by side with him.
she smiled at him whenever he would look back. reassuring him that she was still following him and wasn't going to attempt to runaway. she figured the man a silent type and she smiled once more as he tried to keep the conversation going."i was making a delivery and decided to take a short cut."she told him with a nod. it didn't seem like it was possible since she currently wasn't dressed in her work attire."i work at a flower shop part time."she quickly added.
she laughed softly."good guess. no, i'm not. like i said i'm really just out here for a walk. i don't mind exploring, but don't worry i won't continue back there."she wanted to reassuring him that once he lead her out, that she wasn't going to return. she was in no condition to stumble upon things she didn't need to."i'm madelyn by the way. thank you for helping me back."she told him with a smile.
Every few moments Dane found himself having to steadily increase his pace. In order to maintain the distance between the two as the woman tried to catch up. Yet he did it covertly as he didn't want to offend the woman. After all she seemed nice, and it wasn't like he hated having a little company. Yet he was still hung up on the fact he had to lead her back to civilization. The thought provoking a slight grumble from the man. But he had offered his aid none the less. And he wasn't going to go back on his word.
As the woman answered his questions he let out a long sigh. Relieved to know that the woman certainly had no Ill intentions for being in the area. And a little irked that she had just happened to wander into such an unfortunate area. Just a short walk from his former master's property. "Maybe next time take a route that doesn't include wild bears and the like." He said chuckling to himself. As something else the woman had mentioned caught his attention. Regarding the woman's scent to be more accurate. At first he had just passed off the heavy floral aroma as the forest. But now in her presence it was more abundant than ever. Like their was a field of flowers wandering behind him. It wasn't unpleasant in any regards. But it had caught him off guard a little. After all he could understand that she was likely around them all day. But something about it seemed different. Almost like the scent was her own.
But he didn't have time to ponder on the thought much longer as the purple haired woman chimed in once more. Both thanking him and introducing herself. Snapping him out of his thoughts. "Don't worry about it. You can call me John." He said, glancing back and returning her smile.
Yet between the conversation and Dane's pondering he had grown slightly distracted. His body just sort of on auto pilot as he walked down the trails he had so many times before. And as the two passed by a thicket of brush they were suddenly standing on a fork in the trail. One path leading down the hill. The other leading up. And just a few meters up the was the small stone fence, and what could be seen of the old Manor looming behind the crest of the hill. The aura around Dane suddenly soured at the sight. His face twisting into a scowl as he turned to glare at the building. "We should keep going..." He said in a much colder tone than before. His attention turning back toward the trail as he started to make his way down the hill.
i can't tell you how much i wish i didn't wanna stay
honestly she believed she would of been fine on her own. she would of turned around eventually. had she run into trouble, she could of at least bought herself some time to make a run for it. though thankfully when she would venture out on her walks the only thing she would encounter was small woodland creatures. nothing too aggressive.
though she really wished he could of just let her find her own way back. she hoped she wasn't taking too much of his time. what if he had been in the middle of something important? she really hoped she wasn't wasting his time leading her towards the correct path. well, it was a little late now. they were this far ahead. she couldn't help, but laugh softly at his retort."i'll keep that in mind. though i rarely try to seek them when i'm out."
they continued in silence for small period. had she gone out this far or was she simply walking too slow? she managed to thank him and introduce herself. it was the least she could do."well, considering the situation. it's nice to meet you."they stopped for a few seconds once they happened upon a fork in the road. she was going to ask if everything was all right, but she didn't get that chance. it wasn't too long after that that he started to go down the hill and she followed right after.
Even though Dane had warned the woman about wild animals his intentions were much different. After all people got attacked in the woods all the time. And it wasn't like he was some sort of white knight, rushing off to protect anyone whom strayed too far from the normal paths. No. All he cared about was keeping her away from the mansion. Worried she may cross the wall. Worried that even if he didn't want to, he would try to kill her at that point. Driven by the will of his old master to stand watch. As even in death the old man still had a hold on the silver haired male.
He stood there on the fork in the road for a few moments. Staring up the hill at the house , wondering if some part of him intended to lead her here. Telling him she had wandered too close already. But he shoved those feelings down. His thoughts interrupted by Madelyn speaking up again. "It's nice meeting you as well. But I would prefer to keep this from being a reoccurring thing." He said. Taking a moment to regain his composure. Simultaneously turning to walk down the hill. "And if you wouldn't mind, please try not to wander out this way anymore. Regardless of how beautiful it looks, this place is actually quite ugly."
i can't tell you how much i wish i didn't wanna stay
she was in no hurry to get back home. though he was very adamant in setting her on the right path they stayed at the fork in the road for a few moments. she looked around while she waited for him to keep moving. eventually spotting the home. she hadn't seen it when she was making her way through. she probably walked in a different direction. not that she recognized the entire area. it was true that she rarely ventured all the way out here. which is why she decided on the walk in the first place. she wanted to explore. well, before bumping into john she managed to do so just a bit.
she laughed softly at his words."so you don't want to make it a habit of finding lost girls in the woods."she wasn't sure why she was laughing. getting lost wasn't really a laughing matter."i promise i won't wander out here anymore."she told him with a smile. she stayed quiet, quickly nodding at his words."i pinky promise."she told him as she stuck out her pinky towards him. she had done it without a second thought and figured it was probably super childish. almost as soon as she had stuck her pinky out she had dropped her hand to her side. she figured there had to be more than just bears out here, but wasn't going to pry. it wasn't her place.
As the two began to meander bad down the path Dane felt much more at ease. The more the building disappeared behind the brush the more relieved he was. Yet he couldn't get the place out of his mind. Having been the entire reason for him even venturing out this far. He despised that place. Yet he always found himself returning time and time again. Called back by some foul command that kept him locked to the property. Unable to let anyone set foot through it's stone gates. Yet his master was dead. So it wasn't like he had to always stand watch anymore.
In the past he wouldn't have hesitated to strike down anyone for even wandering too close. Often stalking through the woods like a wolf on the prowl. Eager to return to his master with any spoils of the hunt. But now he preferred to lead them astray. But his wandering thoughts were broken by a unexpected comment from the woman. Stopping in his tracks he suddenly looked over his shoulder at her. A little stunned. "No. I uh.." He said slightly embarrassed, coughing into his fist a few times. "I would just hate to see you lost again is all."
Hoping he had saved himself from sounding like a complete fool he began to look away. Only to be stopped once more by her words. He gave her a soft smile and a nod. Happy to hear that she was taking his warning into consideration. Though what she did next had him almost chuckling. His brow scrunching slightly at the childish gesture. Yet the way her hand retreated to her side gave him a brief moment of pause. Making him wonder if he had perhaps come off a little too intimidating. He turned around to now fully face the woman. A few steps closing the distance between them. "Sure. A promise." He said raising his hand toward the woman, pinky extended.
i can't tell you how much i wish i didn't wanna stay
she looked back at the house one last time before she picked up her pace. she wondered if anyone resided in the home. it looked really old. it made her ponder how long it had been there. though soon those thoughts were pushed away as they continued their conversation.
she laughed once more."sorry, i didn't mean to tease."she told him with a reassuring nod."well, hopefully the next time i run into you i won't be lost."she told him with a smile. as much as she wanted to explore, she could do so in a safer part of the woods. it wasn't like she didn't have favorite spots all over town. especially at the beach and the park."i really don't make a habit of getting lost."
just to reassure him she had stuck out her pinky. she really wasn't the type to cause trouble. though thinking he'd probably see her motion as childish she didn't keep her hand out for long. she was surprised that he held out his pinky. she smiled and hooked her pinky with hers.
Dane couldn't help but mentally kick himself as Madelyn pointed out his obvious embarrassment from her teasing. As her comments had made him think about the situation. Though the premise of it was quite desirable to most. Finding a cute lost girl in the woods, rushing to their rescue. In hopes of praise or admiration. But Dane wasn't like most. As he had never really been given the chance to have a social life. So he never really cared for the thanks, really only seeing his actions as a job.
"Perhaps that would be nice miss Madelyn. He said with a small smile in response. Unsure if they would even happen to cross paths again. After all Lorsette was a big city. But if he had learned anything from his time here. It was that strange things were always possible. Even something as mundane as two strangers finding each other again. And as she accepted his pinky he couldn't help but feel a little silly. Yet strangely happy. The small act reminding him of a time when his life wasn't so broken. And making him feel a little more at ease around the purple haired woman.
"And I would definitely hope you dont. I can't always be around to be your guide dog." He said with a slight chuckle. Inside he was panicking slightly. Having let the last word slip unintentionally. Though outside he did his best to keep his composure. Hoping she would just assume it was nothing more than metaphorical.
